0:00:02 > 0:00:04This is the Real Hustle - Celebrity Scammers.
0:00:04 > 0:00:09In this series, the hustlers carry out scams that are bigger, tougher and more devious than ever before.
0:00:09 > 0:00:17With the help of their celebrity friends, hustlers Alex, Jess and Paul
0:00:17 > 0:00:19pull off the riskiest scams of all -
0:00:19 > 0:00:21long cons.
0:00:21 > 0:00:27Intricate webs of lies and deception designed to separate the unwary from their money.
0:00:30 > 0:00:35On tonight's show, Liberty X star Kelli Young cleans up as a guest hustler.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38I was really scared, I just didn't want to screw it up.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40Everything would have fallen apart.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44- Jess coins it in... - Oh! All right, clever clogs!
0:00:44 > 0:00:46And these guys are having a very taxing day.
0:00:46 > 0:00:51- I've just been basically rinsed of everything.- Oh, my god.
0:01:29 > 0:01:33The hustlers have invited celebrity friends to help them carry out their long cons.
0:01:33 > 0:01:40They'll be thrown in at the deep end - no training and no practice, just straight into the scam.
0:01:44 > 0:01:49This week's celebrity guest hustler is Pop Stars contestant and ex-Liberty X member Kelli Young.
0:01:51 > 0:01:56I'm just trying to be brave and pep myself up to be brave and just go for whatever comes my way.
0:01:56 > 0:02:00I know that I'll be in the hands of some real experienced hustlers
0:02:00 > 0:02:04as well, who'll be able to help me with the hustle, so I'm up for it.
0:02:04 > 0:02:12- Bring it on.- Kelli has been told to travel to a mainline train station and to keep an eye out
0:02:12 > 0:02:17- for a black van.- Hello. - In you come.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20- Hi. - Come in.- Hi.- How are you doing?
0:02:20 > 0:02:22Fine, how are you guys?
0:02:22 > 0:02:24- Are you ready to hustle? - I think I am.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28Time to find out what the hustlers have in store for Kelli, as Alex and
0:02:28 > 0:02:33Jess drive to today's location and give her a hustle briefing.
0:02:33 > 0:02:38OK, so today, Kelli, we are going to be putting someone in a situation...
0:02:38 > 0:02:42- OK. - ..where they're going to be responsible for a very valuable item.
0:02:42 > 0:02:43- Right.- OK?
0:02:43 > 0:02:47We're also going to make them feel responsible for damaging that item.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50So today it's not as glamorous as what you're used to.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53But you're going to be, along with me, a cleaner!
0:02:53 > 0:02:58- Oh!- So we've got these lovely jumpers for you...- Right...
0:02:58 > 0:03:03So, Kelli and Jess will be posing as professional cleaners, hired to prepare a house for a photo shoot.
0:03:03 > 0:03:08Alex is the photographer for a home interiors magazine,
0:03:08 > 0:03:13and Paul is an art dealer who hires out paintings for photo shoots.
0:03:14 > 0:03:22Together they're planning to make a lot of money from some unfortunate mark in...Done and Dusted.
0:03:22 > 0:03:27I'm going to leave the keys in here and I'm going to go in disguise.
0:03:27 > 0:03:32- Oh, where's he gone?- Wow. - Where's he gone?- That's amazing.- And I shall see you on the other side.
0:03:32 > 0:03:36Kelli has just moments to prepare for her role in the sting,
0:03:36 > 0:03:39as Alex heads off to pay a visit to the mark just around the corner.
0:03:40 > 0:03:44Alex has arranged to borrow this house as a location for an interior
0:03:44 > 0:03:46design magazine photo shoot.
0:03:46 > 0:03:53If the photos get published, the homeowner will get a whopping fee of £5,000.
0:03:55 > 0:03:56Hello.
0:03:56 > 0:04:00- Hi there, Ian Steel, photographer. - Oh, right, hi!
0:04:00 > 0:04:01- Hi, and you are?- I'm Laura.
0:04:01 > 0:04:05- Laura, nice to meet you. - This isn't my house, I'm kind of here just to let you in!
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Fine, thank you - you're looking after the place for us, yeah?
0:04:08 > 0:04:10- I am.- This isn't the mark's home.
0:04:10 > 0:04:14She's a friend of the owner and has agreed to supervise the photo shoot.
0:04:14 > 0:04:19She'll be even more vigilant that nothing happens to the place on her watch.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21Is it OK to have a look, a quick look around?
0:04:21 > 0:04:24- Of course, yes.- OK. - Do what you need to do.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27- Just going to... I've also got a cleaning company coming.- OK.
0:04:27 > 0:04:32- Make sure everything's clean, because obviously these pictures are for a house magazine.- Yes.
0:04:32 > 0:04:35Whilst Alex is being given the grand tour, Jess helps Kelli
0:04:35 > 0:04:39transform herself from glamorous pop star into a professional cleaner.
0:04:39 > 0:04:45This isn't really a look Kelli is used to - not so much leather catsuit as leather chamois.
0:04:45 > 0:04:49Next, the van gets a bit of a makeover, too.
0:04:49 > 0:04:51Do you want to go pop that one round the other side?
0:04:51 > 0:04:55- Yeah.- A few matching signs later and the transformation is complete.
0:04:55 > 0:04:56- You ready?- Yes.- Yeah?
0:04:56 > 0:04:58- Do we look like cleaners?- Think so.
0:04:58 > 0:05:01All they need now is a house.
0:05:04 > 0:05:08Alex has had a good look round, taking the opportunity to install
0:05:08 > 0:05:10some hidden cameras inside the house.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13Everything's looking good for the photo shoot, but there's
0:05:13 > 0:05:17one element in this room the photographer isn't happy with.
0:05:17 > 0:05:23Only problem I'm looking at now is this.
0:05:23 > 0:05:28I think we definitely need to have something on there, but I can't use that, cos that's probably...
0:05:28 > 0:05:32- Copyright.- Yeah, bought from a shop and it's copyright.
0:05:32 > 0:05:33- I'll tell you what I can do.- Mmm-hm.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36Could have something brought in.
0:05:36 > 0:05:42There's a guy who's very close to here who does, that's what he does, he lets out works of art - and he's
0:05:42 > 0:05:46got something I know the magazine have tried to photograph before.
0:05:46 > 0:05:49- The more I can make the shot attractive...- Yeah.
0:05:49 > 0:05:52- I know it's a lot of money for these shots.- Benefits you and these guys.- Yeah.
0:05:52 > 0:05:56It sounds like a good idea - getting a painting that the magazine is
0:05:56 > 0:06:01interested in practically guarantees the photos will be published and everyone will get paid.
0:06:01 > 0:06:04The thing is, you'd have to call them, because I don't have anything to do with that.
0:06:04 > 0:06:07- OK.- If I gave you his number, would you give a call?
0:06:07 > 0:06:09- I could give him a call. - Brilliant.- Yes.
0:06:09 > 0:06:12Because... Hang on, I think I've got his... I know he's based...
0:06:12 > 0:06:13Oh, that that's him.
0:06:13 > 0:06:16- This is Robert Marks, that's his mobile.- Mm-hmm.
0:06:16 > 0:06:19- So if you want to give him a call... - Yeah, I'll call him.
0:06:19 > 0:06:21And do I have to pay for this now or...?
0:06:21 > 0:06:23- I don't...- Or how does it work?
0:06:23 > 0:06:27- He'll explain. I'm not quite sure how he does that.- Right, OK. - Because I never get involved.
0:06:27 > 0:06:30The mark is happy to assist, and makes the call.
0:06:31 > 0:06:34- Rob Marks... - Hi, Robert, my name's Laura,
0:06:34 > 0:06:39I've got Ian Steel with me at the moment, he's taking photographs of a friend's house.
0:06:39 > 0:06:43- 'Uh-huh...' - And we have a wall in the kitchen that's already got a picture on,
0:06:43 > 0:06:47but it's copyright - I was wondering if you've got anything like a portrait?
0:06:47 > 0:06:51Yeah, I told him I was down here - where are you?
0:06:51 > 0:06:52Basingstoke.
0:06:52 > 0:06:55Yeah, I do have something - in fact I'm at a house very close by,
0:06:55 > 0:06:59so I have something that I could definitely swap out for you.
0:06:59 > 0:07:00Who'd have thought it?
0:07:00 > 0:07:03Paul is just around the corner, and will lend her a painting.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06The one he's got in mind is worth £10,000.
0:07:06 > 0:07:08How long do you need it for?
0:07:08 > 0:07:12- How long do we want it for? - Oh, about an hour.- About an hour?
0:07:12 > 0:07:16I wouldn't want to charge you rental for that, but I do need a deposit.
0:07:16 > 0:07:18It'll be about £500.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21So there's no hire charge for the £10,000 painting.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23Just a £500 deposit.
0:07:23 > 0:07:25- Thank you, bye.- Bye-bye.
0:07:25 > 0:07:27Is £10,000 enough?
0:07:27 > 0:07:31Is that how much it's worth? Well, he's got, he's got very good things!
0:07:31 > 0:07:36She barely has time to hang up the phone before the cleaning team arrives.
0:07:36 > 0:07:43This is the first time Kelli will meet the mark, who, given her age, will no doubt be aware of Liberty X.
0:07:43 > 0:07:47- Oh, that might be them.- If Kelli gets recognised, it's game over.
0:07:47 > 0:07:48- Hello.- Hello.
0:07:48 > 0:07:50Hi, are you expecting some cleaners?
0:07:50 > 0:07:52- Hi, girls.- Hi. - Hello.- How you doing?
0:07:52 > 0:07:54Come in, let me show you...
0:07:54 > 0:07:58Alex takes the girls through the rooms that will feature in the magazine.
0:08:00 > 0:08:02And then pops out to pick up his equipment.
0:08:05 > 0:08:09- Looking round people's houses! - Yeah!- Jess and Kelli get to work
0:08:09 > 0:08:12around the house. They're planning to really clean up, in more ways than one.
0:08:14 > 0:08:17Time for our next visitor on this busy afternoon.
0:08:17 > 0:08:23Art dealer Paul has just pulled up outside to drop off the painting the mark ordered over the phone.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26There's someone coming to your door...
0:08:29 > 0:08:31- Hello. - Hi, there, I'm Rob Marks.
0:08:31 > 0:08:33- Hello, come in. - Hi, what's your name?
0:08:33 > 0:08:35- Laura.- Nice to meet you.
0:08:35 > 0:08:37- Come in.- Down here?
0:08:40 > 0:08:42Can I have you hold that for just a second?
0:08:42 > 0:08:43- OK.- Be very careful.
0:08:43 > 0:08:47The mark is clearly uncomfortable handling such an expensive painting,
0:08:47 > 0:08:51but Paul doesn't give her a chance to refuse.
0:08:51 > 0:08:53- Right.- Do all the windows first. - Yeah, OK.
0:08:57 > 0:09:00Oh, yeah, it's a Rodney. Very popular right now.
0:09:02 > 0:09:05- Yeah. I need a deposit of 500. - Yes, that's fine.
0:09:05 > 0:09:08- I won't charge you for the hour or anything like that.- Brilliant.
0:09:08 > 0:09:10If you want it for a few days, I would... Perfect.
0:09:10 > 0:09:12- All right?- Great.
0:09:12 > 0:09:14Paul takes the £500 deposit and heads off.
0:09:14 > 0:09:17Tell Ian I say hi, and he owes me a drink.
0:09:17 > 0:09:19- Yeah, no worries! - A very stiff drink.
0:09:19 > 0:09:20- Thank you.- Bye. Bye-bye.
0:09:20 > 0:09:23For the time being, his work is done.
0:09:23 > 0:09:27The success of this scam is now in Kelli's hands.
0:09:27 > 0:09:34So, one house, two cleaners and a £10,000 painting.
0:09:34 > 0:09:35What could possibly go wrong?
0:09:47 > 0:09:49When hustlers go out, they don't bring money.
0:09:49 > 0:09:52They go armed with prop bets.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55- Right... - But a prop bet only has one rule.
0:09:55 > 0:09:59- Do you give up?- And that's that the hustler always wins.
0:09:59 > 0:10:01- Ah!- Drinks, please.
0:10:01 > 0:10:03Oh, no!
0:10:03 > 0:10:07Jess fancies a drink, but plans to make her new friends pay for it.
0:10:07 > 0:10:09So I've got a challenge for you.
0:10:09 > 0:10:14- Come on then.- Yes, well I've got 10 £2 coins here, I'm going to line
0:10:14 > 0:10:19them up here so that they form a little arrow, like that, yes?
0:10:19 > 0:10:23And as you can see, the arrow's pointing that way.
0:10:23 > 0:10:28So for a round of drinks, your challenge is, by only moving
0:10:28 > 0:10:32- three of the coins, you have to make the arrow point that way.- OK...
0:10:32 > 0:10:38So to get out of buying a drink, this guy needs to make the triangle point in the opposite direction.
0:10:38 > 0:10:42The only catch is that he can only move three coins.
0:10:42 > 0:10:45Seems quite easy, don't it? I can think I can do this.
0:10:45 > 0:10:48Have a little, have a little, have a little go.
0:10:48 > 0:10:50So look we'll go one there...
0:10:50 > 0:10:54- Mm-hmm. - There's one already though, isn't it?
0:10:54 > 0:10:55Two, three.
0:10:55 > 0:10:57- No, go on. Give us another go. - Go on, have another go.
0:10:57 > 0:10:59Give us another go!
0:10:59 > 0:11:00Come on dude, you can do this.
0:11:00 > 0:11:07I've been robbed, mate, cos I ain't got a...! Oh, one... Two...
0:11:07 > 0:11:12- Tricky, it's tricky, it's tricky. No, I give up, give up - go on.- Give up? Shall I show you how it's done?
0:11:12 > 0:11:15- Go on, show us how it's done. - I'll show you how it's done.
0:11:15 > 0:11:17That arrow's pointing that way.
0:11:17 > 0:11:20- Yes.- You need to move three coins so the arrow points that way.
0:11:20 > 0:11:22- Go on.- So, one, two, three...
0:11:22 > 0:11:27One... Ah! All right, clever clogs!
0:11:27 > 0:11:32- Yeah, I know!- This bet seems tough at first, but once you know how it's done, it's a piece of cake.
0:11:32 > 0:11:39One coin moves around to make the top of the triangle, and these two swap sides to become the base.
0:11:39 > 0:11:42So you go get the drinks! Ha-ha!
0:11:42 > 0:11:44Ah!
0:11:56 > 0:11:59Who wouldn't like to get some free money? That's the question
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Jess and Paul would like to find the answer to today.
0:12:02 > 0:12:06They've come to this suburban office, where they'll be making people happy
0:12:06 > 0:12:11by offering to give them cash - large sums of completely free cash.
0:12:11 > 0:12:13And they want nothing in return -
0:12:13 > 0:12:15well, almost nothing.
0:12:15 > 0:12:19This...is the tax man scam.
0:12:19 > 0:12:21These visitors have received a letter
0:12:21 > 0:12:25asking one of them to come for an interview at a regional tax centre.
0:12:25 > 0:12:31I need to get you to fill out a couple of forms before you go in to see Mr Marks...
0:12:31 > 0:12:38You don't ignore an invitation from the tax man, so they're here bang on time to meet officer Rob Marks.
0:12:38 > 0:12:40Claire, do you want to come on through?
0:12:40 > 0:12:42Yes.
0:12:45 > 0:12:49Mr Marks - this is Claire Peters, and here are her details for you.
0:12:49 > 0:12:51- Thank you. - You're welcome. Take a seat.
0:12:51 > 0:12:53- Thank you.- Hi.- Hi.- OK...
0:12:53 > 0:12:58We're processing refunds, but part of the process is we call
0:12:58 > 0:13:01some people in just to check they are who they say they are, and...
0:13:01 > 0:13:04- Oh, OK, yeah. - You know, it's just perfectly normal.
0:13:04 > 0:13:08The tax officer looks up the mark's records to make sure all is in order.
0:13:08 > 0:13:13We are showing an overpayment here, and it looks like you're entitled to
0:13:13 > 0:13:19- £1,222.27 has been overpaid by you. - Oh, my god!
0:13:19 > 0:13:24The news is great - she's due a refund in excess of £1,200.
0:13:24 > 0:13:28And this tax man is full of nothing but good news.
0:13:28 > 0:13:35The amount here is £1,222.27 overcharged.
0:13:35 > 0:13:37It's nice to give people good news!
0:13:37 > 0:13:41- Mmm.- £1,222 over,
0:13:41 > 0:13:44which you'll be pleased to know we have to give you back.
0:13:44 > 0:13:46- Yeah!- OK?
0:13:46 > 0:13:51Everybody who enters this room unexpectedly becomes a bit more well-off.
0:13:51 > 0:13:53But how do they actually get their money?
0:13:53 > 0:13:55There's two ways we can pay it to you.
0:13:55 > 0:13:59We can pay you by cheque, usually takes about three months -
0:13:59 > 0:14:01or directly into your bank account.
0:14:02 > 0:14:08The marks can get paid by cheque - but that will take three long months to process.
0:14:08 > 0:14:13Or they can have that juicy refund paid straight into their bank account in a matter of days.
0:14:13 > 0:14:16- It's a no-brainer. - You know, if you want it quickly...
0:14:17 > 0:14:21- Yeah, that's what I would do. - Oh, yeah, I know - I'll do that.
0:14:21 > 0:14:26Everyone opts for the speedy bank transfer, and Paul is only too happy to oblige.
0:14:26 > 0:14:28But there's one tiny catch...
0:14:28 > 0:14:31I need you just to fill that out.
0:14:31 > 0:14:34He's going to need some bank details.
0:14:34 > 0:14:37The marks don't think twice about handing over their information.
0:14:46 > 0:14:52Paul just verifies the information they've given on his official tax refund computer.
0:14:52 > 0:14:54And everything seems to be in order.
0:14:54 > 0:15:00Right looks like that'll be in before...December 18th.
0:15:00 > 0:15:02- Lovely.- All right?
0:15:02 > 0:15:04- Thanks for coming down.- OK.
0:15:04 > 0:15:06Don't spend it until you've got it, my advice!
0:15:06 > 0:15:08I'll try!
0:15:08 > 0:15:12- Thank you very much.- Thank you very much.- Take care, Claire, bye.- Bye.
0:15:12 > 0:15:15Like all the others, she's never going to see a penny of that refund.
0:15:15 > 0:15:20In fact the only person likely to be making money from this transaction is Paul.
0:15:20 > 0:15:24He's now got all the details he would need to clean out their bank accounts.
0:15:24 > 0:15:27Now this is hard...
0:15:27 > 0:15:33That would be enough of a shock, but for these marks, things could turn out even worse.
0:15:33 > 0:15:37Because Jess was doing some data collection of her own.
0:15:37 > 0:15:43When she composed the official-looking letter asking the marks to come for the interview, she
0:15:43 > 0:15:47added that they should bring several forms of ID to prove their name and address.
0:15:49 > 0:15:52Excellent. I'm just going to go and make a quick copy of these.
0:15:52 > 0:15:56- And then I'll be straight back. Are you OK with those forms, yeah?- Yes.
0:15:56 > 0:15:59- There you go.- And while the marks dutifully filled in forms...
0:15:59 > 0:16:02- I've brought a bit of everything for you.- Oh, nice.
0:16:02 > 0:16:04..Jess was taking photos of:
0:16:11 > 0:16:16- All done.- Together with their banking details, the hustlers now have enough information
0:16:16 > 0:16:22to commit identity fraud, get new ID, take out loans and even sell the data on the black market.
0:16:22 > 0:16:25- Thank you very much. - All right, take care, bye.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28A simple con with a potentially devastating result for the victims.
0:16:28 > 0:16:30They could take my identity!
0:16:30 > 0:16:32My heart is beating like crazy!
0:16:32 > 0:16:36I've just been basically...been rinsed of everything.
0:16:36 > 0:16:41- Oh, my god.- Bloody hell.
0:16:41 > 0:16:47Everything was so official! Offices, secretary, there was everything!
0:16:47 > 0:16:50Who wouldn't mind receiving money they weren't expecting?
0:16:50 > 0:16:56Now this is our real world version of one of the most popular online scams.
0:16:56 > 0:16:59You'll be asked to put in your bank details, your name, your address.
0:16:59 > 0:17:03But of course now those details are available to the highest bidder online.
0:17:03 > 0:17:08The Inland Revenue will never send out e-mails asking for personal information.
0:17:08 > 0:17:11If you are ever asked for any personal details or credit card
0:17:11 > 0:17:15information, then make sure you know exactly who you're dealing with.
0:17:15 > 0:17:20This is a very well-known, very effective sting that's happened to lots and lots of people.
0:17:20 > 0:17:23Before you know it they'll be sucking money out of your account.
0:17:23 > 0:17:27If you're invited somewhere, check, make sure it's a proper tax office,
0:17:27 > 0:17:29make the phone calls, do your homework.
0:17:38 > 0:17:42Earlier today, Liberty X star Kelli Young dressed as a professional cleaner.
0:17:42 > 0:17:48- Hello, hi.- Hello. - And along with Jess, entered a house to prepare it for a photo shoot.
0:17:48 > 0:17:50Can't use that, because that's probably a copyright.
0:17:50 > 0:17:53Photographer Alex then asked the mark to
0:17:53 > 0:17:56phone art dealer Paul to hire an expensive painting for the shoot.
0:17:59 > 0:18:03Paul left with a £500 deposit,
0:18:03 > 0:18:07but if all goes according to plan, the mark will soon be handing over
0:18:07 > 0:18:11more, much more - in Done and Dusted Part II.
0:18:13 > 0:18:14£10,000 they said that was worth.
0:18:14 > 0:18:17- What, that?- Yeah.- Really?
0:18:17 > 0:18:20It's a little later, and the mark still can't believe
0:18:20 > 0:18:24that she's got such a valuable piece of art on the kitchen wall.
0:18:24 > 0:18:25Can you do me a favour actually?
0:18:25 > 0:18:28- Yes.- Could you take that sheet, could you just cover that up?
0:18:28 > 0:18:32- Cover...?- Just cover the picture up, maybe just drape that over...
0:18:32 > 0:18:36- It won't. Just tuck it behind or something.- I'm so terrified!
0:18:36 > 0:18:40Understandably, the mark isn't keen on touching the painting again, but
0:18:40 > 0:18:44it's essential to the scam that she personally covers it with the sheet.
0:18:44 > 0:18:45OK, that's not going to fall?
0:18:45 > 0:18:47No, that's fine, looks fine.
0:18:47 > 0:18:52It's now down to Kelli to carry out the most important and risky part of the scam.
0:18:52 > 0:18:56- Can I just borrow you for a second? - Yeah.- Thank you, I just need some advice on this living room.
0:18:56 > 0:18:58Jess leads the mark
0:18:58 > 0:19:00well away from the kitchen and into the living room.
0:19:00 > 0:19:04Kelli will have to act fast as this is her only window of opportunity.
0:19:04 > 0:19:11Hidden in her cleaning bucket is a solvent spray designed to dissolve oil paint.
0:19:11 > 0:19:13Her job is to ruin that painting.
0:19:13 > 0:19:18But the longer she leaves it, the greater the danger of being caught red-handed.
0:19:22 > 0:19:27She's barely got a squirt out before everything falls apart.
0:19:27 > 0:19:28At least I know...
0:19:28 > 0:19:32The mark and Jess are still having an in-depth conversation
0:19:32 > 0:19:36about windows, but Kelli really needs to get a move on with that sheet.
0:19:41 > 0:19:43The painting is back on the wall again,
0:19:43 > 0:19:47but the tiny spray of solvent won't be anywhere near enough to ruin it.
0:19:47 > 0:19:50She's going to have to give it another go.
0:19:59 > 0:20:02And as she does so, she comes within a fraction
0:20:02 > 0:20:08of a second of being caught, but the scam that was on the brink of falling apart is now back on track.
0:20:08 > 0:20:14A little later, photographer Alex makes his return.
0:20:14 > 0:20:15Hello.
0:20:15 > 0:20:18- Hi there, how's it all going? - We have art!- You have art? Excellent.
0:20:24 > 0:20:26Oh, no, I'm sure you'll be fine.
0:20:26 > 0:20:31Alex naturally wants to have a good look at this magnificent work of art.
0:20:33 > 0:20:36Er, OK.
0:20:36 > 0:20:38- It's... - It's probably more your thing to...
0:20:38 > 0:20:43The only thing I'm sort of looking at is... Yeah.
0:20:45 > 0:20:46Look closer,
0:20:46 > 0:20:47like it's bubbling.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50- Oh.- Do you see what I mean? - Yeah.- Got a bin in here?
0:20:50 > 0:20:54The girls haven't sprayed anything on it, I haven't touched it.
0:20:54 > 0:20:56It looks like it's bubbling before our eyes.
0:20:56 > 0:20:58- Sort of wet. Yeah. - Like getting worse.
0:20:58 > 0:21:02Suzie - have a look at this, you guys didn't start cleaning the windows or anything...?
0:21:02 > 0:21:07- No, they had done those and then... - Just about here. Just about here it looks a little bit...
0:21:07 > 0:21:08Oh, my god. What's that?
0:21:08 > 0:21:11But this was covered before you guys started cleaning?
0:21:11 > 0:21:13- Yeah - you put the sheet on it, didn't you?- Yes.
0:21:13 > 0:21:14Who covered it?
0:21:14 > 0:21:17- That sheet.- I popped it over. - What sheet did you use?
0:21:18 > 0:21:20This has got...
0:21:20 > 0:21:23- That's not what we used in that industrial place, is it?- Yeah.
0:21:23 > 0:21:25- It's got it on it, hasn't it?- Shit.
0:21:25 > 0:21:30So the mark thinks that the sheet she used to cover the £10,000 painting was soaked in a solvent.
0:21:30 > 0:21:31No, no, no, no, no.
0:21:31 > 0:21:35- It is, you can smell it, look, smell it.- And to make matters worse...
0:21:35 > 0:21:37DOORBELL RINGS
0:21:37 > 0:21:40- Oh, who's that? - Oh, my gosh - are you kidding?
0:21:40 > 0:21:45Art dealer Paul has come back to the house earlier than expected, having received a text from Alex.
0:21:45 > 0:21:48- I'm really sorry, I need to take that painting back.- OK, come in.
0:21:48 > 0:21:51I've got the owner, she was a bit set on that one I'm afraid.
0:21:51 > 0:21:54- I'm really sorry, I have got to take it back.- Hey, Rob, how are you?
0:21:54 > 0:21:56Why do you need to take it back?
0:21:56 > 0:21:59Well, she needs it and she was really happy with that one so...
0:21:59 > 0:22:01I don't know what's happened cos I've just got here,
0:22:01 > 0:22:04but I'm pretty sure that that area is not meant to be like that.
0:22:04 > 0:22:09- Jesus. What happened? - I don't know, I...
0:22:09 > 0:22:11We covered it, but I...
0:22:11 > 0:22:18I think what's happened is that the cover that we've used had some industrial cleaning fluid on it.
0:22:18 > 0:22:20You know it's ruined, right?
0:22:20 > 0:22:23- Who covered it up?- I popped it over,
0:22:23 > 0:22:26but I did not touch it, I was terrified, I didn't even want to put it on, I was...
0:22:26 > 0:22:28Yeah, she was terrified.
0:22:28 > 0:22:32Well, it's scraped here, we've got, I mean, the painting's blistering here...
0:22:32 > 0:22:35Rob - do you have anything else we can put up there?
0:22:35 > 0:22:38- I mean...- Well, you must be insured?
0:22:38 > 0:22:41Yeah, but you know, the excess on something like this is £2,000.
0:22:41 > 0:22:46Paul does have insurance for the painting, but he isn't prepared to cough up for the excess.
0:22:46 > 0:22:50- The artist is... - It's our sheet we can call up our boss and see if we're insured.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53- Because we've got insurance. - You want another painting?
0:22:53 > 0:22:55- But you've got to take it? - Shall we call our boss?
0:22:55 > 0:22:58- Call your boss.- I'll call him. - Find out if you're covered.- Yes.
0:22:58 > 0:23:01I need the excess on this, I mean I really, really do.
0:23:01 > 0:23:06Kelly and Jess head outside to make a phone call, supposedly to the boss of the cleaning company.
0:23:06 > 0:23:09Well, if I don't get the pictures in, these guys don't get paid.
0:23:09 > 0:23:14Well, it's eight minutes to five on Friday, I need to put a call in to the insurance now.
0:23:14 > 0:23:20- Laura... - Meanwhile Alex takes the mark into the living room for a quiet chat.
0:23:20 > 0:23:25Listen, I know this guy, I know him, he's a little bit upset.
0:23:27 > 0:23:30Yeah, but the thing is, I need to put a painting there. If...
0:23:30 > 0:23:35- we get him to give us another painting, I know I can get you that, the pictures sold.- Mm-hmm.
0:23:35 > 0:23:42So if these guys can cover it, I think we should cover it and get him to bring us another painting ASAP.
0:23:42 > 0:23:43- Mm-hmm.- He'll pay it.
0:23:43 > 0:23:45What was that?
0:23:45 > 0:23:46He'll pay it.
0:23:46 > 0:23:49- He'll pay it, yeah. - He'll pay it?- Yeah!
0:23:49 > 0:23:53He says he'll come down with the cash but he can't get down till eight o'clock.
0:23:53 > 0:23:56OK, let's go and see Rob, let's go and see Rob.
0:23:56 > 0:24:00So the cleaning company will pay the £2,000 excess, but Kelli's boss can't get
0:24:00 > 0:24:06here for a couple of hours, and if Paul doesn't get paid straightaway, there'll be no replacement painting.
0:24:06 > 0:24:08I'm sorry but I need to leave here with cash.
0:24:08 > 0:24:12- All right, well, you guys...- OK. - ..pack up, look...- And that means
0:24:12 > 0:24:15no photo shoot fee for the mark's friend - the homeowner.
0:24:15 > 0:24:20- I've got a deadline...- Do you have 2,000, and I'll do the switch and then at least I'm covered?
0:24:20 > 0:24:23Do you know what, if I had two thousand cash on me now...
0:24:23 > 0:24:26- Huh!- If only someone else could cover the excess until the cleaning boss arrives.
0:24:26 > 0:24:29- Do you have £2,000?- No!
0:24:29 > 0:24:33- I'm a hairdresser!- What was that money we had earlier, I mean...?
0:24:33 > 0:24:36- How about the owner?- That is for the builder, who's meant to be coming.
0:24:36 > 0:24:41Is it enough? Because they're going to bring the money to you, then at least you're covered.
0:24:41 > 0:24:43- There's not £2,000 in there. - No, not yet.
0:24:43 > 0:24:47The mark does actually have some money, left by the homeowner, to pay a tradesman's bill.
0:24:47 > 0:24:49- But will she hand it over? - What do you want us to do?
0:24:49 > 0:24:54Well, it seems to me that the only thing we can sort out would be if what we have available...
0:24:54 > 0:24:58- If there is enough in here...- Yeah. - ..what do I do when the builder comes knocking on the door?
0:24:58 > 0:25:00Tell him to come back at eight.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03Tell him to come back after eight, because you'll have cash then.
0:25:03 > 0:25:05- And I will get that replaced then.- Yeah.
0:25:05 > 0:25:08What I'll do is, I'll leave that piece with you just now, I'll get
0:25:08 > 0:25:11- the other piece. And I'll bring it back.- How much do you have here?
0:25:11 > 0:25:16She's gone for it, and the hustlers will happily take however much is in the envelope.
0:25:16 > 0:25:20Going to have to, actually, sorry, going to have to go, is everything OK?
0:25:22 > 0:25:24- He will. He will.- Take care.
0:25:24 > 0:25:28As the girls leave, Alex helps count out the cash.
0:25:28 > 0:25:31- 1,500 exactly.- No!
0:25:31 > 0:25:35Added to the deposit, that makes two grand for a couple of hours' work.
0:25:35 > 0:25:40So Kelli and Jess are gone - time for the other hustlers to get the replacement painting.
0:25:40 > 0:25:43So Laura, I'm going to be here in two minutes.
0:25:43 > 0:25:47They haven't left any buckets or anything like that downstairs, have they? Have a quick look.
0:25:47 > 0:25:49- OK.- Brilliant.
0:25:49 > 0:25:52Well, I mean, the piece I have in the back is particularly...
0:25:52 > 0:25:54Is it? It's not another Rodney is it?
0:25:54 > 0:25:56- It's another Rodney, yeah. - Cos he's rubbish.
0:25:56 > 0:26:00I sprayed it once and then the painting came off.
0:26:00 > 0:26:03I was panicking, couldn't work out how to get it back on the wall.
0:26:03 > 0:26:07I was really scared, I just didn't want to screw it up and I didn't want Laura
0:26:07 > 0:26:11to see me fiddling with it, because then everything would have fallen apart.
0:26:11 > 0:26:15We convinced her that our guy was going to come back with the cash later on.
0:26:15 > 0:26:20But I think once everybody left the house, I'm sure she must have felt like, oh, my god, I've just handed
0:26:20 > 0:26:23over £2,000, and what if this guy doesn't turn up?
0:26:24 > 0:26:27You will not believe the dramas...!
0:26:27 > 0:26:31The mark has been on her own for a little while now, and puts in a call to her friend.
0:26:31 > 0:26:35OK, £500 deposit to the man for this painting,
0:26:35 > 0:26:38that, hold on, is worth £10,000.
0:26:38 > 0:26:44The guy who brought the painting over obviously needs some money for the excess for his insurance, so I've
0:26:44 > 0:26:50given him £1,500 out of that other money. Yes.
0:26:50 > 0:26:56The guy from the cleaning company is paying for it, so he's going to bring £2,000 over here at eight o'clock.
0:26:56 > 0:27:00Of course, she's never getting any money back from the cleaning company.
0:27:00 > 0:27:04And that painting is definitely no masterpiece.
0:27:04 > 0:27:07In fact, it was worthless all along.
0:27:07 > 0:27:12I gave him the deposit and then I did give them some money to, erm,
0:27:12 > 0:27:15for the insurance thing or something.
0:27:15 > 0:27:17You just kind of do it, don't you?
0:27:17 > 0:27:21Cos this poor guy, his £10,000 painting.
0:27:21 > 0:27:26The guys that came in and just seemed like that's what they just did every single day.
0:27:29 > 0:27:32In this scam, the mark's been offered a great sum of money to take
0:27:32 > 0:27:38part in a photo shoot, so she's more than likely to go along with any requests that the photographer has.
0:27:38 > 0:27:40When the painting gets damaged, she doesn't really
0:27:40 > 0:27:43think twice of handing over the money for it, because after all,
0:27:43 > 0:27:47she's going to be getting all the money back from the cleaning company a few hours later.
0:27:47 > 0:27:52Whenever you're asked to pay money in order to receive more money, alarm bells should be ringing.
0:27:52 > 0:27:55And always be very, very careful of who you let into your home.
0:27:55 > 0:27:59Find out for yourself that they are who they say they are.
