0:00:02 > 0:00:02What are you all, identical twins?

0:00:02 > 0:00:07Confidential does a double-take as the cast come face-to-face with themselves.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09Are you two twins?

0:00:09 > 0:00:12We get to kind of do all the, "Oh, my God" stuff.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16But how similar does a look-alike need to be?

0:00:16 > 0:00:20Of course I'm better looking but, you know, he does all right.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23As the UK is gripped by the coldest winter in decades,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26the country grinds to a halt.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30It's so cold. I can't tell you how cold it is.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33But there's still no stopping the Doctor Who crew.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36- I've got a sneaky one. - You've got one.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39You've got one and you're stealing mine, Gillan!

0:00:41 > 0:00:45# I don't ever want to be here

0:00:47 > 0:00:49# Like punching in a dream

0:00:49 > 0:00:53# Breathing life into the nightmare. #

0:00:55 > 0:00:57I can't leave her out there.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00- Rory!- I know you understand that. - Get in here. Get in here.

0:01:00 > 0:01:05And watch out, Amy. Rory has his eye on another woman.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Amy's kind of strong, "I don't care" facade

0:01:08 > 0:01:10is starting to crack a little bit.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14I think if Jennifer had any taste, she would fancy Rory!

0:01:18 > 0:01:22- Amy's a lucky girl.- Yeah...she is.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50# Do you count the flakes when it snows?

0:01:50 > 0:01:53# Can you feel the heat or only the afterglow?

0:01:53 > 0:01:58# Do you count the flakes when it snows? Yeah. #

0:01:58 > 0:02:00At Caerphilly Castle,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03snow has fallen on the set of Doctor Who.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05But despite the freezing temperatures,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08the cast and crew are soldiering on.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11We've been very lucky. The snow came down quite heavily on Saturday

0:02:11 > 0:02:14and we managed to get the crew through the snow.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Fortunately, we've been inside for the last couple of days,

0:02:17 > 0:02:21so despite the cold temperatures, we've managed to keep filming.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Today's interesting because we hadn't imagined

0:02:24 > 0:02:27shooting these scenes with the castle snowbound,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30but actually it looks lovely, so we're going to go with it.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Gloves, I've got a couple of heat packs on my back.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35I haven't got any heat packs. I should get some.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39- Hand warmers in my socks. - That's funny. That must be lumpy.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43It's lumpy and bumpy, but it's warm.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47I don't have any room in my shoes. Hi, guys.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49I've got sheep skin.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52- I've got them!- Yes! You've both got them.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55It's created a lack of space in my shoes...

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Claustrophobic toes. I can't do that.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01- ..And therefore my feet are colder.- Really?- Yes.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04- No.- Taking it away.- No!

0:03:04 > 0:03:07One of the problems we get with weather like this is the worry

0:03:07 > 0:03:09that the cast might end up under the weather.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11It is a gruelling schedule

0:03:11 > 0:03:14and Matt, Karen and Arthur are at the brunt of it.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18You've got one. You've got one and you're stealing mine, Gillan!

0:03:18 > 0:03:20I've got multiple layers. Ooh.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24We try and look after them but they're all young, they're all fit.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26They're hopefully coping well.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27What Karen does is this,

0:03:27 > 0:03:31- she puts it on her silly old nose, her big red conker.- I know!

0:03:31 > 0:03:35- That's because it gets really cold and runny.- Cos it's massive.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38- Don't take it off! - Take your coats off.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41- Come on.- This is what happens in checks, with Arthur.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44- Come on, Arthur. Do it.- Ahhh!

0:03:44 > 0:03:48- It's OK, Arthur.- It's OK!

0:03:48 > 0:03:52- Man up, old bean. - OK, I'm doing it. Aah!

0:03:55 > 0:04:00If we want to live, it's time to go to war.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08The main monster of these episodes are the gangers,

0:04:08 > 0:04:13and they're a modern take on the kind of Frankenstein idea of creating life.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19'I don't think there's any getting away from the fact'

0:04:19 > 0:04:20the gangers are scary.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24I'm very aware that this goes out on Saturday evenings

0:04:24 > 0:04:26and I'm very aware this is a family show,

0:04:26 > 0:04:29but Doctor Who was always scary when I was a kid,

0:04:29 > 0:04:33and this is certainly going to scare people.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50I wanted it to be scary and icky and nasty and cool to watch,

0:04:50 > 0:04:55but I didn't want it to be about, "I want to take over the world

0:04:55 > 0:04:56"just for the sake of it."

0:04:56 > 0:04:58You can really sympathise with them.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01They've got this vulnerability to them,

0:05:01 > 0:05:04because you can really see their point of view, I guess,

0:05:04 > 0:05:08because they're just trying to protect themselves and each other,

0:05:08 > 0:05:12and, you know, they think of the humans as the enemy.

0:05:12 > 0:05:16Where's the real Jennifer?

0:05:16 > 0:05:19I am Jennifer Lucas.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21I don't think the gangers are evil, necessarily,

0:05:21 > 0:05:24they're just fighting for survival,

0:05:24 > 0:05:27and people do extreme things in extreme situations.

0:05:27 > 0:05:32If there are villains in this story, the villains are the humans,

0:05:32 > 0:05:38who have been maltreating this sort of slave class they have, albeit accidentally, created.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41We have the advantage now.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44The thing I've wondered about any of these creatures

0:05:44 > 0:05:48that perfectly duplicate human beings is,

0:05:48 > 0:05:50don't they feel they have rights too?

0:05:50 > 0:05:55Don't they take on some of the qualities of the human being they're impersonating so well?

0:05:55 > 0:05:59In a lot of Doctor Whos you'd have a situation where somebody

0:05:59 > 0:06:02could outguess the monster, but how do you outguess yourself?

0:06:02 > 0:06:05It's one of the most challenging things you could fight with.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11The doubles that we used for the actors, you don't need them to look the same.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13They're going to be completely replaced.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16There's two real essentials - they have to be the same height,

0:06:16 > 0:06:20because if you're looking at your double

0:06:20 > 0:06:23and I'm shooting you from over here, I need your eyeline

0:06:23 > 0:06:28to be exactly where it will be when you're looking back at yourself.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30So the height's incredibly important.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33Also, to get around having to do a lot of special effects,

0:06:33 > 0:06:37the back of the head becomes quite important, the hair,

0:06:37 > 0:06:41because I can put a camera over someone's shoulder, looking at another person,

0:06:41 > 0:06:43and as long as the back of the double's head looks fine,

0:06:43 > 0:06:46you've got a clean shot and you don't have to worry about it.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48From the back, you're not really sure who it is

0:06:48 > 0:06:52and they'll turn around and have a completely different face.

0:06:52 > 0:06:58So, it's really funny, actually, to see who they choose to cast as people's doubles.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01I had a double once, for something else,

0:07:01 > 0:07:03and she just looked nothing like me.

0:07:03 > 0:07:07I mean, I am ghostly white, but this girl was really tanned.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10They just put a ginger wig on her.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Are you two twins?

0:07:13 > 0:07:15Well, I think we're pretty good doubles.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19- I think we look pretty similar. - We do. We've got similar features.

0:07:19 > 0:07:20A similar nose.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Yeah. Quite similar accents as well.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Crinkles around the eyes.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Of course, I'm the better-looking, but he does all right.

0:07:28 > 0:07:33I think he's slightly more handsome.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Slightly more grey. Result!

0:07:37 > 0:07:41And he's got a slightly better physique.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43I think there are some similarities.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47My hair's now a lot longer than what the wig is.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49But it's really good to have them there.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50Not just for eyelines and stuff,

0:07:50 > 0:07:54but they actually give a lot as well to a scene, so it's great.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06- Action.- Jennifer? Jennifer.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10- They hurt...so much. - Hey, it's OK, it's over now.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Despite an episode of freezing temperatures

0:08:13 > 0:08:18and icy conditions, things are definitely hotting up on set.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22It's a really interesting twist in this episode,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25- for the relationship between Rory and Amy.- Yeah.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27You take a wee shine to Jennifer.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30- Rory? Listen.- No, you listen.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Nobody touches her.

0:08:32 > 0:08:36Rory does fancy her a little bit. I think he does.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39He's noticed that she's an attractive girl, as men do.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42We can tell the truth now Karen's not around.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45We have a weird and wonderful relationship.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48- There's nothing dodgy going on. - No, nothing dodgy at all.

0:08:48 > 0:08:54# You make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world

0:08:54 > 0:08:57# Like I'm the only one that you'll ever love... #

0:09:04 > 0:09:05It's the white stuff, isn't it?

0:09:05 > 0:09:09- It's the fact that you're made of toothpaste.- It's because I'm unique.

0:09:09 > 0:09:14Yes, I've never seen anyone like you. Like a big eyeball before.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24I think if Jennifer had any taste she would fancy Rory.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26He's a really sweet and lovely guy.

0:09:26 > 0:09:31I think Amy does have reason to be jealous, you know.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36But I think Rory can't help but help a damsel in distress, too, and that's his soft side.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42Amy's a lucky girl.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44Yeah, she is.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49I've got to look at it from Amy's point of view,

0:09:49 > 0:09:53and you have taken a bit of a shine to this girl in particular.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56Yeah, I'm definitely protective over her.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58Yeah. Is it because she makes you feel like a man?

0:09:58 > 0:10:02Yeah, in a way, in a sense.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04- Amy doesn't make you feel like much of a man.- No.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Where's the real Jennifer?

0:10:10 > 0:10:12The REAL?

0:10:14 > 0:10:18I am Jennifer Lucas.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21I remember everything that happened in her entire life -

0:10:21 > 0:10:27every birthday, every childhood illness.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30I feel everything she has ever felt and more.

0:10:30 > 0:10:35I'm not a monster. I'm me!

0:10:35 > 0:10:37There's talk of a love triangle going on,

0:10:37 > 0:10:41but for Rory, it's more of a triangle of trouble.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44I think she really likes Rory and he's a really sweet and nice person

0:10:44 > 0:10:47and he really takes her under his wing

0:10:47 > 0:10:50when he sees her at her most vulnerable.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53Help me, Rory. Help me.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59She's in genuine trouble and clearly likes him.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02And yeah, there are moments when he thinks it would be nice

0:11:02 > 0:11:05if Amy could ever own up to the fact that she depends on me a bit.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08So he's absolutely ripe to be exploited by someone who says,

0:11:08 > 0:11:12"Oh, you're so great. You're a real comfort to me."

0:11:12 > 0:11:14Because he's never heard those words.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18He hasn't heard those words, ever. He's known Amy since he was a child, so he's just used to scorn.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22I really like this in the story. I'm glad that it's taken this turn.

0:11:22 > 0:11:28It's given me, as an actress playing Amy, something new to play,

0:11:28 > 0:11:32because she's always had Rory in the palm of her hand,

0:11:32 > 0:11:37so to have this happen just opens up loads of new avenues.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39It's really weird for Amy as well

0:11:39 > 0:11:44because she's obviously had a roaming eye in the past herself.

0:11:44 > 0:11:49- Are you not going to turn your back? - Nope.

0:11:49 > 0:11:54So, yeah, she's obviously not too possessive like that

0:11:54 > 0:11:57because she wouldn't expect Rory to be that possessive over her.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00So, it's an interesting one to get.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03I think Rory has to try not to be possessive.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05I think he really has to keep it back.

0:12:05 > 0:12:10He actually just wants to be going, "Hey!" all the time.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14- But he has to play it cool. - Amy doesn't dig that.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16Yeah. Rory just wants to be cool.

0:12:16 > 0:12:20- Action.- What about the flares?

0:12:20 > 0:12:24- Rory?- Jen's out there.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26She's out there and she's on her own.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28If she's got any sense, she's hiding. Rory...

0:12:28 > 0:12:29- I can't leave her out there.- Rory!

0:12:29 > 0:12:36I think that he wants to go out on a mission and prove himself, almost.

0:12:36 > 0:12:41If he does that, he can prove himself as a man to Amy

0:12:41 > 0:12:42and the Doctor, I guess.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45Come on, get in here, get in here!

0:12:45 > 0:12:47Close the doors. Rory?

0:12:47 > 0:12:51I think, just naturally, as the man in the relationship,

0:12:51 > 0:12:53he wants to assert himself a bit more.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57He's got to man-up and finally he's doing that, which is good.

0:12:57 > 0:13:02As Rory and Jennifer get closer, it seems to pull Rory

0:13:02 > 0:13:05away from Amy, physically and emotionally.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Hopefully, that sets us up nicely for the big wallop at the end.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11Show yourself. Show yourself!

0:13:11 > 0:13:15The game-changer for this story is, what if the Doctor is duplicated?

0:13:15 > 0:13:17What on earth happens then?

0:13:17 > 0:13:19The most powerful player in the whole story,

0:13:19 > 0:13:22what if there's two of him?

0:13:22 > 0:13:24What will he be like?

0:13:24 > 0:13:26Trust me.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30I'm the Doctor.
