0:02:22 > 0:02:23THEY LAUGH

0:02:23 > 0:02:26But it was written a long time ago, actually, like, two years ago

0:02:26 > 0:02:29when it was a chorus of a song which I never used

0:02:29 > 0:02:33and then ended up sticking in this song and it made sense.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36We've done a rearrangement of it in the studio recently,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38with the full band.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25# If we take away the feeling

0:05:22 > 0:05:24# Never take away the feeling

0:05:24 > 0:05:27# And look at ourselves in...

0:05:27 > 0:05:29# Black and white

0:05:30 > 0:05:33# You wrestle me like a mustang

0:05:33 > 0:05:34# Close I fly

0:05:46 > 0:05:49# You're killing me, loving me. #

0:05:49 > 0:05:52As you can hear, Hannah's got an amazingly powerful voice.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54So, where does it come from?

0:05:54 > 0:05:56I don't know, really! I mean, I've always sung.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Like, literally, I can't remember not singing,

0:05:58 > 0:06:00and I just listened to loads of different big singers.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03My first influence was Eva Cassidy, then,

0:06:03 > 0:06:07when I was, like, 13, 14, I loved Christina Aguilera and, like,

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Alicia Keys and, like, Beyonce and everything,

0:06:09 > 0:06:11and just me in my bedroom trying to mimic them.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13And so I guess I always liked that kind of music,

0:06:13 > 0:06:15and then I kind of felt like I could actually do it.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18I really like writing songs. You can just really go for it.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Yeah, just go for it, basically.

0:06:20 > 0:06:21# Black and white

0:06:21 > 0:06:22# Makes me cry

0:06:22 > 0:06:25# Wrestle me like a mustang

0:06:25 > 0:06:27# Oh, fly and

0:06:27 > 0:06:28# You're pulling me

0:06:28 > 0:06:30# Pushing me closer

0:06:30 > 0:06:31# We go down

0:06:31 > 0:06:33# Kiss the ground

0:06:33 > 0:06:35# I run away like a mustang

0:06:35 > 0:06:37# Killing me, loving me

0:06:37 > 0:06:40# You're killing me, loving me

0:08:17 > 0:08:20Ifan, how does Swn Festival differ from some of the summer

0:08:20 > 0:08:21festivals for a band?

0:08:21 > 0:08:24Erm, some of the summer festivals are obviously out in the fields,

0:08:24 > 0:08:27out in, like... No. 6, we played, T in the Park... This one's...

0:08:27 > 0:08:29I like Swn.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31We come every year, and it's just like all the pubs round

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Cardiff are full of bands playing, and it's just good.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36We played downstairs at Clwb and it went really well.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38It was really busy and...

0:08:38 > 0:08:40Different faces, you see different people coming to the

0:08:40 > 0:08:44gigs, and it's just fresh, I think, to play a festival like this.

0:09:28 > 0:09:29Good night.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:09:31 > 0:09:34The next Horizons artist playing at Cardiff's Swn Festival

0:09:50 > 0:09:53# Flickering above my vision

0:09:54 > 0:09:56# Keeps me wondering

0:09:59 > 0:10:00# I'm chasing you

0:10:01 > 0:10:03# I know for sure

0:10:04 > 0:10:06# You're everything I need

0:10:06 > 0:10:09# And so much more

0:10:09 > 0:10:11# Keeps me wondering

0:10:13 > 0:10:14# Oh-oh...

0:10:15 > 0:10:18# They sail

0:10:24 > 0:10:26# Three autumns

0:10:30 > 0:10:33# My heart, it breaks

0:10:33 > 0:10:37# To know that you are still so far away

0:10:37 > 0:10:39# My soul, it keeps on wondering

0:10:42 > 0:10:44# I'm chasing you

0:10:44 > 0:10:46# And I know for sure

0:10:46 > 0:10:49# Is this meant to be?

0:10:49 > 0:10:50# We are so much more

0:10:52 > 0:10:54# I keep on wondering

0:10:54 > 0:10:56# And waiting

0:11:00 > 0:11:03# One day

0:11:03 > 0:11:07# Three autumns

0:11:07 > 0:11:09# Three autumns... #

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Tells us about yourself, then. Why Violet Skies?

0:11:12 > 0:11:15It's not your first name, your born...

0:11:15 > 0:11:17- You weren't born Violet Skies.- No.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21Well, basically, I used to do a lot of kind of acoustic-y music.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25It was not as alternative as I do now, and it felt like I just wanted

0:11:25 > 0:11:29to start something really fresh with a name that suited the music

0:11:29 > 0:11:32I would want to make, and Violet is my great-grandmother's name.

0:11:32 > 0:11:33She was an amazing lady.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37She had, like, a second lease of life when she was about 80.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39She was a bit crazy and I really admired that,

0:11:39 > 0:11:42and the "Skies" just kind of suited the ambient, kind of cinematic

0:11:42 > 0:11:47vibe that I wanted for the music, so that's where it came from.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49# I find myself hoping

0:11:49 > 0:11:51# Find myself hoping

0:11:51 > 0:11:54# You'll be home, oh!

0:11:55 > 0:11:57# They sail

0:11:58 > 0:12:00# One day

0:12:01 > 0:12:03# Three autumns

0:12:06 > 0:12:09# When I miss you it feels like

0:12:09 > 0:12:12# One day

0:12:12 > 0:12:14# Oh, and three

0:12:15 > 0:12:19# Three autumns

0:12:20 > 0:12:21# Oh....

0:12:30 > 0:12:32# When I miss you

0:12:32 > 0:12:37# When I miss you it feels like

0:18:35 > 0:18:39# And I'd love to know How low life goes

0:18:39 > 0:18:42# Till I really know

0:19:05 > 0:19:08# Dreaming away but she's trying to sleep

0:19:10 > 0:19:13# But do I need to know

0:19:13 > 0:19:15# How low life goes

0:19:15 > 0:19:17# Till I really know

0:19:17 > 0:19:20# I know

0:19:20 > 0:19:23# So, please

0:19:24 > 0:19:28# Spare me the words

0:19:31 > 0:19:34# A simple girl... #

0:19:41 > 0:19:44Glyn, where do you feel you're at now to compare with,

0:19:44 > 0:19:46say, 12 months ago?

0:19:46 > 0:19:49Well, exactly 12 months ago, Jake had just joined the band

0:19:49 > 0:19:51and just started learning drums,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54so I can say that we've progressed considerably

0:19:54 > 0:19:56since a year ago and it's been really great

0:19:56 > 0:20:00that, since Jake's joined the band, that, if anything, it's been better.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03Yeah, it's just awesome. We're having a great time.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08# Baby, now you're in my dreams

0:20:10 > 0:20:13# Spare me the words

0:20:14 > 0:20:17# Just tell it to me plain

0:20:17 > 0:20:20# A simple girl

0:20:23 > 0:20:26# So easy, girl

0:20:28 > 0:20:31# These troubles that I've told

0:20:31 > 0:20:36# I'm making life go slowly now

0:20:41 > 0:20:45# I've had enough of this. #

0:20:50 > 0:20:54Clwb Ifor Bach is responsible for most of my misspent youth

0:20:54 > 0:20:56and life, but I do remember some precious memories,

0:20:56 > 0:20:59including one of my all-time favourites,

0:20:59 > 0:21:02Gorky's Zygotic Mynci in a packed-out venue upstairs.

0:21:02 > 0:21:05And, adding to the list of Welsh acts who've

0:21:05 > 0:21:09performed at Clwb Ifor Bach, this is Horizons artist Aled Rheon.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18# Stay with me

0:21:18 > 0:21:21# And be my friend

0:21:21 > 0:21:24# I'll buy you flowers

0:21:25 > 0:21:26# Keep you content

0:21:28 > 0:21:31# I'll be good company

0:21:44 > 0:21:46# Let's start a tale

0:21:48 > 0:21:53# We'll be the heroes that prevail

0:21:54 > 0:21:57# We'll get on famously

0:21:58 > 0:22:00# Of that, I'm sure

0:22:02 > 0:22:04# Friends

0:22:04 > 0:22:06# For ever more

0:22:38 > 0:22:40Something very exclusive happened today -

0:22:40 > 0:22:42the first time ever you've played with a band.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Yeah, it's my first ever gig with actual living people on stage

0:22:45 > 0:22:47- with me.- When you said that, rather than dead people on stage!

0:22:47 > 0:22:51But, no, they were amazing musicians.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54It's great to see when people...

0:22:54 > 0:22:57You've started writing in your bedroom and suddenly there's all

0:22:57 > 0:23:00these people kind of joining you, musically, and adding to the music.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Yeah. It's part of the journey, I guess, the process.

0:23:03 > 0:23:05I wanted to start off playing by myself,

0:23:05 > 0:23:08playing songs by myself, and then, you know, I thought,

0:23:08 > 0:23:11"Well, a natural progression is to ask mates who are musicians as well

0:23:11 > 0:23:13"to come along and play with me".

0:23:14 > 0:23:16Jim Bennetts on the drums.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40This is Sedative.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46# So many faces

0:24:47 > 0:24:49# So little life

0:24:51 > 0:24:54# There's too many places

0:24:54 > 0:24:57# There's too many lies

0:24:59 > 0:25:02# Just like the cold

0:25:15 > 0:25:18# There's too many heartbreaks

0:25:18 > 0:25:20# And so little time

0:25:23 > 0:25:26# There's too many retakes

0:25:26 > 0:25:29# There's no final line

0:25:31 > 0:25:34# And just like the cold

0:25:58 > 0:26:01# And chasing around

0:26:03 > 0:26:07# And I'll be wasting

0:26:07 > 0:26:12# And I'll be falling down

0:26:18 > 0:26:20# You're my sedative, you know

0:26:26 > 0:26:28# You're my sedative, you know

0:26:35 > 0:26:39# And I'll be wasting

0:26:39 > 0:26:44# And I'll be falling down

0:26:50 > 0:26:52# You're my sedative, you know

0:26:57 > 0:27:00# You're my sedative, you know
