0:00:02 > 0:00:05In September 2016, thousands of people made the journey to

0:00:05 > 0:00:09a small patch of the North Wales coast for three days of music

0:00:09 > 0:00:12and, as it turned out, mud - lots of it.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15This is Portmeirion.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19This is Festival Number 6 and this is Wales Unsigned.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43the sun was out and we had a job to do.

0:00:43 > 0:00:47We're following 12 Welsh artists and bands as they perform their way

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and they all want to make it in the music business

0:01:15 > 0:01:18and if you want to get noticed and make a little bit of money,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21that usually means playing at gigs and festivals

0:01:21 > 0:01:23just like this one.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27It's a platform for the big names as well as a place

0:06:27 > 0:06:29to discover new acts on their way up

0:06:29 > 0:06:32and you also come across music you wouldn't expect

0:09:36 > 0:09:42# And the breeze won't leave

0:09:44 > 0:09:50# Through the rain, I'll see

0:09:53 > 0:10:00# Just wait for me

0:12:27 > 0:12:30We thought the whole day might be a complete write-off,

0:18:16 > 0:18:19A bonus track now from one of our unsigned bands who didn't

0:18:19 > 0:18:22make it to Festival Number 6, but they did make it to

0:18:22 > 0:18:27the BBC studios at Maida Vale where our next programme is based.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29This is Newport band Casey.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32# I know I promised not to call

0:18:32 > 0:18:34# But I left so much unsaid

0:18:34 > 0:18:37# And you barely said a word at all

0:18:37 > 0:18:41# But I knew exactly how you felt

0:18:43 > 0:18:45# How fast did we decay?

0:18:45 > 0:18:49# Cos I remember falling into love

0:18:49 > 0:18:51# But never out again

0:18:51 > 0:18:54# It felt like one day I woke up

0:18:54 > 0:18:56# And we weren't there

0:18:56 > 0:19:00# We'd lay our bones in the same bed at night

0:19:00 > 0:19:05# But our love had disappeared

0:19:05 > 0:19:08# Sink beneath the bed sheets

0:19:08 > 0:19:11# Drowning in the thought of us

0:19:11 > 0:19:14# A bloodless vessel, empty

0:19:14 > 0:19:19# Toothless, I've been thinking of a way to let you know

0:19:19 > 0:19:22# Hell is loving you in my sleep

0:19:24 > 0:19:25# And waking up alone

0:19:25 > 0:19:28# I guess I just couldn't bring myself to face the fact that maybe

0:19:28 > 0:19:30# We were never what I wanted us to be

0:19:30 > 0:19:33# Maybe the love that we had made was not the beautiful home

0:19:33 > 0:19:35# I always imagined that we would build

0:19:35 > 0:19:37# Because you were the light of my life

0:19:37 > 0:19:39# But no matter how brightly you shone

0:19:39 > 0:19:42# The shadow you cast was never dark enough to cancel out the glare

0:19:42 > 0:19:44# I should have left sooner

0:19:45 > 0:19:49# Maybe you were never there

0:19:50 > 0:19:52# You never saw it as us

0:19:52 > 0:19:56# Only ever you and me

0:19:56 > 0:19:58# You were the blood in my veins

0:19:58 > 0:20:01# You only came to watch me bleed

0:20:01 > 0:20:07# Our love set me on fire and you stood and watched me burn

0:20:07 > 0:20:15# You told me once you couldn't love me but I guess I'll never learn

0:20:28 > 0:20:31# You told me once you couldn't love me

0:20:31 > 0:20:36# Like it will go on

0:20:36 > 0:20:39# I sink beneath the bed sheets

0:20:39 > 0:20:41# Drowning in the thought of us

0:20:41 > 0:20:44# A bloodless vessel, empty

0:20:44 > 0:20:49# Toothless, I've been thinking of a way to let you know

0:20:49 > 0:20:59# Hell is loving you in my sleep and waking up alone. #

0:21:06 > 0:21:10That was Casey at the BBC Maida Vale Studios.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14And now back to Festival Number 6.

0:21:15 > 0:21:20It's the morning after a very, very wet day before

0:21:20 > 0:21:23and this is the result.

0:21:26 > 0:21:30And so I managed to squelch my way to somewhere a bit less muddy

0:21:30 > 0:21:35and caught up with Rhys and Sion from our next unsigned Welsh band.

0:21:35 > 0:21:39I'm not one to judge, but I think your choice of footwear for

0:21:39 > 0:21:41this event is a little bit inappropriate.

0:21:41 > 0:21:43What have you got to say for yourselves?

0:21:43 > 0:21:46These are the shoes I wear to play drums

0:21:46 > 0:21:49so I can't be playing drums in wellingtons,

0:21:49 > 0:21:50you know. So...

0:21:50 > 0:21:54Yeah, well, my wellingtons were a bit out of shape.

0:21:54 > 0:21:55I've been with the sheep

0:21:55 > 0:21:59so we don't want any of that stuff on the pedals.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02- You could imagine. - Yeah, I can imagine.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06I'd get very angry if there was sheep dung all over my pedals.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09Sheep dung, that's a very nice way of putting it, isn't it?

0:22:13 > 0:22:16So tell us a bit about the song Digon that we're hearing today.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19It's a song on our EP, Translated Enough.

0:22:19 > 0:22:23So, I don't know what's it about, though?

0:22:23 > 0:22:25It's quite a beast kind of thing so, yeah,

0:22:25 > 0:22:28let the audience think what it's about.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32HE SINGS IN WELSH

0:22:52 > 0:22:55HE SINGS IN WELSH

0:23:18 > 0:23:21HE SINGS IN WELSH

0:23:41 > 0:23:44HE SINGS IN WELSH

0:24:58 > 0:25:02What a weekend. One I definitely won't forget in a hurry.

0:25:02 > 0:25:08A few last thoughts from me before a brilliant final song.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10I've had a fantastic time here in Portmeirion.

0:25:10 > 0:25:11I've been performing,
