:00:09. > :00:16.My name is Jessica-Jane Clement. When I'm not working as a model or

:00:16. > :00:21.trying to protect you from being scammed on the Real Hustle, you

:00:21. > :00:29.will find me trying out the beauty treatments. I have learned from my

:00:29. > :00:36.experience it can be like the Wild West. In most parts of the country,

:00:36. > :00:41.you, me or anyone can open up a saloon. You don't need experience,

:00:41. > :00:44.but there are some shockers out there. Each week with are

:00:44. > :00:50.investigating various beauty disaster stories and trying to

:00:50. > :00:55.discover what went wrong. Tonight, the semi-permanent that cause long-

:00:56. > :01:01.term damage. It has just knocked me. Completely knocked me. She got a

:01:01. > :01:07.pair of tweezers and was just ripping my eye lids apart. I'm on

:01:07. > :01:13.the case of the salons responsible. What sort of glue did you uses that

:01:13. > :01:18.caused this client of yous to end up in A&E Department? Us girls

:01:18. > :01:23.spend on average 300 days of our lives applying make-up. It costs us

:01:23. > :01:27.9,000, but you can say goodbye to all of this lot with semi-permanent.

:01:27. > :01:33.Then again, if it goes wrong, it will take more than a wet wipe to

:01:33. > :01:39.get it off as 34-year-old mum of three, Michelle Musselwhite were

:01:39. > :01:43.Liverpool, found out to her cost. did overpluck my eyebrows, that is

:01:43. > :01:49.probably why they were lighter and there was not much hair there.

:01:49. > :01:54.thought that the answer to the make-up nightmares was the semi-

:01:54. > :01:59.permanent eyebrow tat use. I said to my husband, it would be great if

:01:59. > :02:09.I could have them tattooed. Snai. said it would be a nice treat to

:02:09. > :02:10.

:02:10. > :02:18.have them down. But her eyebrow tat use turned out to be a cosmetic

:02:18. > :02:23.tragedy. I researched the net, and they turned out to cost 300, this

:02:23. > :02:28.is what I'm left with. This one here is longer. It is also thinner

:02:28. > :02:37.here than this one. This one has a dip. They just don't look the same.

:02:37. > :02:42.It has just knocked me. Completely knocked me. I hate going out.

:02:42. > :02:47.sorry. Today, in stead of fuss-free brows, Michelle will need an art

:02:47. > :02:52.degree to pint them in properly. have to colour in the light bit

:02:52. > :02:59.there first. Then on this side I start here as this is the part that

:02:59. > :03:04.is a bit lighter than the rest. I give it a colour in. To do all of

:03:04. > :03:12.this every day, it probably takes about half an hour, 45 minutes.

:03:12. > :03:17.is no longer relaxed about her appearance. I won't go out unless

:03:17. > :03:22.I've coloured them in. It's affecting me. If I had known, I

:03:22. > :03:26.would never have gotten them done. More of us than ever are opting for

:03:26. > :03:31.semi-permanent, but it is not cheap. Eyebrows can set you back up to

:03:31. > :03:36.500. The procedure involve as needle that imprants ink below the

:03:36. > :03:41.skin's stays, but not as deep as a normal tattoo, but if the make-up

:03:41. > :03:46.goes wrong, you can be stuck with it for months. Michelle is coming

:03:46. > :03:51.to London to meet me. She has donned a cunning disguise. I would

:03:51. > :03:56.not go out without these. I wouldn't know what else to do. They

:03:56. > :04:02.hide my eyebrows enough. I'm hoping to find out what went wrong. I am

:04:02. > :04:07.pretty worried about what she will think of me when she sees me.

:04:07. > :04:11.know it will be a little difficult for you, but do you mind if I see

:04:11. > :04:16.your eyebrows? OK, so I can see straight away, is that one going up

:04:16. > :04:21.higher than the other one? A little more like that? Is it square? Is it

:04:21. > :04:27.round? I don't know what? How has this affected your confidence? I

:04:27. > :04:31.can't believe someone has done this to you. I won't go out without my

:04:31. > :04:36.make-up on, I get paranoid. I think that people can see it. Tell me

:04:36. > :04:41.about this lady, how did you come across her? I went on to the

:04:41. > :04:46.internet to search for the best place. She had her conservatory

:04:46. > :04:50.made into a beauty room. She had the uniform on. It looked to me

:04:50. > :04:53.professional. At what point when she was doing your eyebrows did you

:04:53. > :04:59.think something was not right? After the first procedure they

:04:59. > :05:03.scabbed over. You had to wait for it to fall off before seeing the

:05:03. > :05:07.end result. This eyebrow was a lot lighter. Like it is now, really. I

:05:07. > :05:11.went to see her and explained that they don't look the same. She said

:05:11. > :05:18.not to worry, that they would be alright after a top-up. No

:05:18. > :05:23.different at all. Have you told her now you are not happy with it, and

:05:23. > :05:27.has she said she will re-do it? She said there is correction that

:05:27. > :05:31.needs doing, to come and see me, but I have thought you have no

:05:31. > :05:37.chance. You are not touching me. Michelle, I think that the world

:05:37. > :05:42.has to find out how the world of semi-permanent is regulated and

:05:42. > :05:46.secondly, I think we need to find out how we can help you? Fix them?

:05:46. > :05:50.How does that sound? That would be fantastic. Thank you very much.

:05:50. > :05:54.really, really feel for Michelle. The eyebrows are so badly done. The

:05:54. > :05:59.eyebrows are so important to framing your face. I can't imagine

:05:59. > :06:03.what she is going through. Jessica- Jane Clement suggested to see if he

:06:03. > :06:11.is can get hem to correcting them. I am over the moon about it. I

:06:11. > :06:15.cannot stress enough how happy I am about it I am beaming! If there is

:06:15. > :06:21.one event that will prompt anybody to trying out a new beauty

:06:21. > :06:28.treatment, it is getting married, but one bride-to-be, had a makeover

:06:28. > :06:37.that could ruin her big day. After a seven-year engagement, 24-year-

:06:37. > :06:43.old hairdresser, Louise from Kent is getting hitched to Jacko in a

:06:43. > :06:48.few weeks' time. He blew up balloons and put a statement in the

:06:48. > :06:52.paper. Saying if he told me he loved me, would I marry him. He got

:06:52. > :06:58.down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Properly. We have a

:06:59. > :07:03.chart for every part of the wedding so far. Haven't we? Yes. Just so it

:07:03. > :07:08.runs smoothly. Hopefully! That's the plan, isn't it?! But one thing

:07:08. > :07:18.they did not plan for was the bride-to-be having a beauty

:07:18. > :07:21.

:07:21. > :07:26.disaster. I first thought, oh, my God, it's my wedding and I'm

:07:26. > :07:35.missing half of my lashes. problem started when sister, Katie,

:07:35. > :07:40.arranged a pre-wedding treat, 20 eyebrow extensions at this salon,

:07:40. > :07:46.Bollywood Brows. I went in. Sat down. She put the pads under my

:07:46. > :07:52.eyes. Then started to put the larbs on. About 20 -- lashes on. About 20

:07:52. > :07:58.minutes after she started to do it, I said that I think that my ie lids

:07:58. > :08:02.are stuck tote. She said that -- eye lids are stuck together. She

:08:02. > :08:08.said, no, that they were stuck to the pads, and when she takes them

:08:08. > :08:16.off I would be able to take them off. She took off the pads, asked

:08:16. > :08:21.me to open up my eyes, but I could not open my eyes. Shocking lie,

:08:21. > :08:27.Louise's ie lids had been stuck together. She got tweezers and was

:08:27. > :08:32.ripping my eye lids apart. I was telling her it was hurting. She

:08:32. > :08:39.said that this was a bit that people can find uncomfortable.

:08:39. > :08:46.lashes were left patchy. manager said if I was not happy I

:08:46. > :08:51.did not have to pay for it. I said I was not paying for them to rip my

:08:51. > :08:58.eyelashes out. Of course not. Overnight, the beauty blunder

:08:58. > :09:02.turned into a medical emergency. Her ie eye lids swelled. I went to

:09:02. > :09:09.A&E Department, the nurse said it looked like they had used superglue.

:09:09. > :09:14.Nothing was coming off. As glue this strong can cause permanent eye

:09:14. > :09:19.damage, Louise wonders if her flutter was worth it? I am missing

:09:19. > :09:24.loads. There is a great big gap here. My wedding is in six weeks'

:09:24. > :09:33.time. The biggest mistake of my life. We are in the biggest beauty

:09:33. > :09:38.boom since the 60s. We are expected to pay for eyelashes from 45 to

:09:38. > :09:41.200. Single lashes can last up to two months, but beware, the over

:09:41. > :09:45.use of this treatment leads to bald patches. I went to speak to

:09:45. > :09:51.Bollywood Brows in Gloucester about this case. First, I needed to work

:09:51. > :09:56.out what went wrong. So I'm taking the girls to one of the UK's

:09:56. > :10:02.leading eyelash salons in Knightsbridge, London. Sue Marsh

:10:02. > :10:05.has agreed to cast her eye over Louise's lids. Louise has had a

:10:05. > :10:12.painful experience. I would obviously like to see how I can

:10:13. > :10:19.help. That depends on how Louise's eye lids are growing back. This is

:10:19. > :10:23.our Louise. Nice to meet you. We have pictures here of the

:10:23. > :10:28.original eyelashes, I was hoping that they could shed light on what

:10:28. > :10:33.has happened. You have the extensions here. The glue looks

:10:33. > :10:38.dreadful. There is a awful lot of glue. I can see that the eye lids

:10:38. > :10:43.have swolen and the lower lids are swollen and irritated. This

:10:43. > :10:46.adhesive is the strong adhesive, you can tell by the reaction that

:10:46. > :10:52.you have had here. It should not come into contact with your eye lid

:10:52. > :10:56.or skin. It is designed to work on the hair of the lash. Sue things

:10:56. > :11:02.not only was the glue applied badly, but the technician used the wrong

:11:02. > :11:09.lashes for the job. This is a commonly known flare lash. It would

:11:09. > :11:14.be used with an adhesive that lasts overnight. I did not know that they

:11:14. > :11:20.were just dailies or night lis? I did not know that? It certainly not

:11:20. > :11:25.something that you would be seen to wear on a day-to-day basis. This

:11:25. > :11:30.can't do that. The weight is too heavy. Why would they do that?

:11:30. > :11:35.my opinion, the person applying the product, I don't think, has been

:11:35. > :11:41.trained correctly. So, you girls went to have semi-permanent

:11:41. > :11:48.eyelashes, they used semi-permanent glue, but used daily eyelashes.

:11:48. > :11:53.With the wedding so close, Louise is desperate to find out if her

:11:53. > :11:58.eyelashes have grown back enough to support falsies. What are you

:11:58. > :12:03.looking for? I am looking to see the recovery on the lower eyelashes.

:12:03. > :12:07.So, what is the verdict? They look to be relatively normal. So I think,

:12:07. > :12:13.going on that, it means that I could do something to help you for

:12:13. > :12:22.your wedding day! Yeah! That would be lovely. Thank you. That will be

:12:23. > :12:30.lovely. Thank you. I've also been investigating Michelle

:12:30. > :12:35.Musselwhite's bad eye -- eyebrow job to find out if you are

:12:36. > :12:41.protected by this type of salon procedure. When we contacted the

:12:41. > :12:46.Liverpool county council, in this area, we got a surprise. They told

:12:46. > :12:51.us that anyone who wanted to open up a semi-permanent make-up salon,

:12:51. > :12:55.would have to comply with Health and Safety Regulations, but don't

:12:55. > :13:00.don't have to be registered. So basically, they don't have to be

:13:00. > :13:07.trained. All of the equipment you need to set up a semi-permanent

:13:07. > :13:11.make-up salon is available online. So here is a machine for 2,500. I

:13:11. > :13:18.can pop that into my shopping cart without requirements to prove I am

:13:18. > :13:22.trained and I would make my money back after a few months. So, I want

:13:22. > :13:27.the women of Liverpool to know it is up to them to ensure that they

:13:27. > :13:32.put their brows in the hands of the professionals. This may not look

:13:32. > :13:37.like much, but it is about to become a brand new pop-up semi-

:13:37. > :13:44.permanent make-up stand in the heart of Liverpool. Yes. Brilliant.

:13:44. > :13:50.One, two, three! We are telling the punters we are offering eyebrow

:13:50. > :13:54.tattoos at 35 a pair as part of a promotion for the new salon. I want

:13:54. > :14:00.to find out how many ask the vital question, have you have training?

:14:00. > :14:05.If anyone asks me that I will be honest and say that I have had no

:14:05. > :14:08.training, that I don't know how to apply the tat use and I don't know

:14:09. > :14:13.how to use the machine. How many will allow me to sit there in the

:14:13. > :14:22.chair, turn on the machine and start to tattoo them without even

:14:22. > :14:26.asking about my qualifications? Welcome to Eyebrows-R-Us. What is

:14:26. > :14:31.your name? The first clients take a seat. Will they ask about my

:14:31. > :14:35.qualifications? Can I get you to sign? This is a waiver form. I need

:14:35. > :14:39.you to read through this for me. Put your name, date of birth and

:14:39. > :14:43.have a read and sign at the bottom. There is no mention of

:14:43. > :14:47.qualifications on the form. Even so, all of the punters signs it. So, it

:14:47. > :14:53.is on with the consultation. The shape that you have now is that

:14:54. > :14:59.what you like? You have had them done already? I have. When? Three

:14:59. > :15:08.years ago. I will measure you. You move the hair out of the way. We

:15:08. > :15:15.have two types of ink, a medium ink and dark ink? Questions? No? Are

:15:15. > :15:19.you sure we are ready to go, OK? Yes. Right, Amanda. I'm actually,

:15:19. > :15:25.I'm really sorry, I'm not tattooing your eyes today. It is nothing to

:15:25. > :15:31.do with your eyebrows, but I'm not really a semi-permanent make-up

:15:31. > :15:39.artist. These cameras are not here today to film the promotional

:15:39. > :15:45.video... We are filming a consumer series about... Am I on TV? This is

:15:45. > :15:50.about beauty Alisons. -- salon. Five people sat in the chair, what

:15:50. > :15:56.made them happy about me putting a needle to their face? The offer.

:15:56. > :16:02.it was because of the price? Yes. have never done this before? What

:16:02. > :16:07.were you thinking? Why didn't you think about asking me about

:16:07. > :16:11.insurance, certificate of training? I don't know. You must ask to see

:16:11. > :16:16.certificate of training. Insurance, and you must have a patch test as

:16:17. > :16:22.well. It was my fault. I did not ask to sequel fictions, or

:16:22. > :16:27.certificates. It has opened my eyes. I will check on things the next

:16:27. > :16:32.time. I hope that I have proven that if it often looks too good to

:16:32. > :16:37.be true, it often is. Hopefully, the girls of Liverpool will think

:16:37. > :16:42.twice about having their semi- permanent eyebrows down. -- done.

:16:42. > :16:47.When we contacted the Liverpool City Council, they said that they

:16:47. > :16:53.are now considering a registration scheme for the salons. Earlier, I

:16:53. > :17:01.met Michelle Musselwhite. I wanted to free her from the shades of the

:17:01. > :17:07.semi-permanent tattoo she had done that went badly wrong. We went to

:17:08. > :17:11.see the make-up maestro, Kevin Fortune. I will bring out her

:17:11. > :17:17.natural beauty. Kevin Fortune wants to work out why the eyebrows are

:17:17. > :17:23.wrong for her face. When I look at the picture, I can understand why

:17:23. > :17:27.Michelle is upset with the eyebrows. One is darker than the other. It is

:17:27. > :17:31.giving the illusion of sitting back and distorting the shape. The other

:17:31. > :17:37.thing I noticed is that the eyebrows are high up. On Michelle's

:17:37. > :17:41.face it gives an unflattering look of a puffy eye lid which she

:17:41. > :17:46.probably does not have. Something else, the eyebrows are too close

:17:46. > :17:50.together. That gives the illusion of frowning or looking upset or

:17:50. > :17:55.angry, but when we cover the eyebrows, Michelle has this soft,

:17:55. > :18:03.gentle look in the lives. So the whole look together gives us a

:18:03. > :18:07.different kind of communication. Let's have a look at the virtual

:18:07. > :18:11.make-back. OK. Let's start again to see if we can do a slightly better

:18:11. > :18:17.improve 789. Whether I have done here is chosen a shape and style

:18:17. > :18:23.which I think works for Michelle. Giving her a soft, gentle arch and

:18:23. > :18:29.dropping them down so it gives a gentler, softer, kinder expression

:18:29. > :18:35.to her face. I have lengthened the brow as Michelle has a full face.

:18:35. > :18:41.The overall look gives Michelle a gentler, softer, kinder and more

:18:41. > :18:46.approachable look to her face. I think it really works. Kevin is

:18:46. > :18:56.clearly showing me why Michelle's brows had been something to frown

:18:56. > :18:56.

:18:56. > :19:01.at. I am more determined that -- than ever to sort them out. The

:19:01. > :19:05.experts confirmed that both our clients had poor treatment at the

:19:05. > :19:10.salons. I wanted to put these allegationss to the salons to see

:19:10. > :19:16.what they had to say. Let's see if they will meet up with me. Louise

:19:16. > :19:23.is finally about to get a fab flutter from eyelash guru, Sue

:19:23. > :19:29.Marsh. Hello. Alright? How are you? Good to see you. Are you nervous?

:19:29. > :19:35.Slightly. It is teledays to go before the wedding. I will do a

:19:35. > :19:41.proper consultation for you if you can follow me in. The eyelashes are

:19:42. > :19:46.looking better. When I finish you today, you will look like you were

:19:46. > :19:54.born with beautiful eyelashes. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell

:19:54. > :20:01.me. Sue is tinting Louise's natural lashes. I will just catch the tips

:20:01. > :20:06.of those. I am using a mixture of brown and black. Sue is using long-

:20:06. > :20:13.lasting glue to apply the lashes, but it will not go anywhere near

:20:13. > :20:17.Louise's eye lids. The extense itself should rest on the hair

:20:17. > :20:22.shaft itself. In order so that you don't get a reaction from the

:20:22. > :20:26.adhesive itself. This is no beauty quick-fix. Sue is applying lashes

:20:26. > :20:33.of different colours and lengths one at time. Because it is your

:20:33. > :20:38.wedding, I think that you deserve beautiful eyelashes, as all brides

:20:39. > :20:44.cry. This will be the one where you don't have mascara running down

:20:44. > :20:49.your cheeks. I am really pleased. If I'm happy, I think you will be

:20:49. > :20:59.delighted. It is my work, I am excited. I think that she looks

:20:59. > :21:05.stunning. And after four hours of fiddly work, Louise finally has a

:21:05. > :21:11.fab flutter of eyelashes. Oh, my, God. I can't believe it! They look

:21:11. > :21:16.absolutely beautiful. I love them. I feel very confident on the

:21:16. > :21:21.wedding day, now, I we canon. I really am very happy with the

:21:22. > :21:27.result. I'm back in Liverpool with a surprise in store for Michelle. I

:21:27. > :21:32.have set up an appointment with semi-permanent artist, Hazel

:21:32. > :21:36.Furlong. She's tattooed hundreds of new brows and trained people in the

:21:36. > :21:42.art. I know that Michelle was disappointed in the treatment she

:21:42. > :21:48.has had. I will not know if I can fix it until I see her for myself.

:21:48. > :21:53.Hello! Lovely to see you again. How are you doing? Alright. I'm scared.

:21:53. > :21:57.You don't know why you are here yet? I know. I'm all excited.

:21:57. > :22:04.have brought you here to meet a professional semi-permanent make-up

:22:04. > :22:11.artist. She is going to assess what has happened to your eyebrows and

:22:11. > :22:17.assess if she can fix them. Now? Yes. Are you excited? Yes. Let's go

:22:17. > :22:22.and find out what she can do. Come on, Michelle. To work out if she

:22:22. > :22:28.can help Michelle, Hazell needs to analyse the brows. You can see

:22:28. > :22:33.where the pigment has come out of the skin. It is a little thicker

:22:33. > :22:38.here. Can you explain to me what went wrong in the first place, what

:22:38. > :22:43.this lady did? It is simply a wrong colour choice. Poor technique and

:22:43. > :22:46.obviously overworking the skin. Hazell, the big question, can you

:22:46. > :22:51.correct them without removing them? I think there is a good balance
