0:01:43 > 0:01:46Any machine that can fly is known as an aircraft.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50There are many types of aircraft, like planes, helicopters,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52balloons and airships.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55The person who flies the aircraft is called the pilot.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59An airshow is an event where lots of people come to see the pilots

0:01:59 > 0:02:03and their aircraft either on the ground or flying in the sky.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Before the airshow, Jesse has come to an air museum

0:02:34 > 0:02:37- Yeah. - They go really fast, yeah?- Yeah.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39- What do you think? - Faster, like this.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Wow! Jesse, your arm's like the propeller! You're going to take off!

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Wow! Look at this plane! It's really old. It's from World War II.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48It's called a Gloster Meteor.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Right, so, where are we going to go?

0:03:17 > 0:03:19I'm flying to...China.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22China? All right. What happens when you pull this to yourself?

0:03:22 > 0:03:25It makes it go up.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27When you push it forward, what happens?

0:03:27 > 0:03:29It makes it go down.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Have a great trip to China, Jesse.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37Next, Jesse's mum takes him to see inside a big passenger aeroplane.

0:03:37 > 0:03:38Wow!

0:03:41 > 0:03:42They go down the aisle to the cockpit,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46- Hi, Jesse.- Hi.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48You're in the cockpit now.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50Wow! Look at all those controls!

0:03:52 > 0:03:55This is the pilot here, this man here.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59And this one is what they call the first officer, or the co-pilot,

0:03:59 > 0:04:03who assists the pilot to fly the aeroplane.

0:04:03 > 0:04:09Those throttles make the aeroplane go faster and slower.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12- And that's what keeps the aeroplane in the air.- How fast does it go?

0:04:12 > 0:04:15This plane will fly about 506 miles an hour.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17- Ooo!- What?!- Yeah.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20It's as fast as that.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24Now Jesse has seen the old aircraft, it's time to head to the airshow.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30The first thing to go in Jesse's memory box is an aircraft cockpit.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35Jesse and his family have arrived at the airshow.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38What are we going to see today, do you know?

0:04:59 > 0:05:02Jesse and his mum and dad speak to a police officer

0:05:02 > 0:05:04who helps children if they get lost.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09So all you need to do, if you get lost, is you find a police officer,

0:05:09 > 0:05:12show us the wristband and we'll get you back to your parents.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14- OK?- Yeah. Thank you.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18- Thank you very much. Bye-bye. - Thank you very much.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21An identity wristband is a good idea.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25The second thing to go into the memory box is a policeman.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32The airshow display is beside the sea,

0:05:32 > 0:05:34and there's lots of people watching.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39The first aircraft they see is an Air Ambulance helicopter.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45The Air Ambulance flies to help people who are sick or injured.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48- I can see it!- Yes.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49While they wait for the next one,

0:05:49 > 0:05:53Jesse and Dad fly about like aeroplanes.

0:05:53 > 0:05:54Then they get a big surprise.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00- Argh!- A loud jet flies over.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07- Jesse is very excited.- Whoa!

0:06:07 > 0:06:12The jet zooms away and another plane with two propellers flies over.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16Hey! The lights!

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- Whoa!- Hello!

0:06:19 > 0:06:21- Can you see it?- Yeah.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Next, they see a stunt plane with a smoke trail

0:06:26 > 0:06:28doing all kinds of tricks.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Wow!

0:06:32 > 0:06:36Jesse, you can fly around and around like the stunt plane.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39All that spinning around would make me dizzy.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46The next plane does a massive loop-the-loop.

0:06:52 > 0:06:56Can you see what's on the wing? There's somebody waving!

0:06:56 > 0:06:59Wow! I can see him! I can see him!

0:06:59 > 0:07:01- Can you see that? - Yeah, I can see him!

0:07:02 > 0:07:06They are fastened on with a special harness so they don't fall off.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11Then a red and white stunt plane does some amazing tricks.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14- Wow!- Did you see that?

0:07:16 > 0:07:20It tumbles through the air and flies off.

0:07:25 > 0:07:29The third thing into the memory box is a stunt plane.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33Wow!

0:07:33 > 0:07:36They walk further along the promenade and find a vintage plane

0:07:36 > 0:07:39called a Spitfire, that you're allowed to sit in.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45Look, Jesse, another vintage plane like the one we saw in the museum!

0:07:48 > 0:07:50Can you pretend you're flying it?

0:07:54 > 0:07:56I'm coming by!

0:07:56 > 0:07:59You just looped-the-loop like a real Spitfire pilot!

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Around 80 years ago, Spitfires were used in the Second World War.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09They flew in a famous battle called the Battle of Britain.

0:08:09 > 0:08:14Now they're called vintage planes, as they're old and only a few still fly.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18There are lots of things to look at at the airshow.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Jesse and his dad have spotted the green helicopter

0:08:21 > 0:08:23they saw flying earlier.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25This is the Air Ambulance helicopter.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27So it helps people who have been hurt in places

0:08:27 > 0:08:30where they can't reach on foot or with a car.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33See how we've got the pilot and co-pilot in front

0:08:33 > 0:08:36and behind here, you've got medical supplies

0:08:36 > 0:08:38to help anyone who's been hurt.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42Just as they climb down, a display team called the Red Arrows

0:08:42 > 0:08:44are putting on a performance.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47They shoot up into the sky.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50W-o-o-o-o-ow!

0:08:51 > 0:08:54Then fly low down over the sea.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06They fly very fast in formation.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09And make exciting manoeuvres.

0:09:09 > 0:09:13Weaving in and out of each other as they fly past the crowd.
