0:00:02 > 0:00:03You ready?
0:00:19 > 0:00:21So amazing, I can't believe it!
0:00:21 > 0:00:22No!
0:00:25 > 0:00:30Hi, everyone, I'm Nikki and this summer was the best summer ever!
0:00:30 > 0:00:34I was entered into Junior Bake Off, and guess what?
0:00:34 > 0:00:35I won!
0:00:38 > 0:00:42But as the cameras were filming me, I was filming myself.
0:00:42 > 0:00:44I have my camera here.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47Ooh! Crazy hair!
0:00:47 > 0:00:50During the last three months, I've been filming my baking...
0:00:50 > 0:00:52I've been nibbling away at this one...
0:00:52 > 0:00:53..my friends...
0:00:55 > 0:00:57And the highs and lows of my crazy life.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59OK? Come on, then.
0:01:00 > 0:01:01I love you.
0:01:06 > 0:01:12Morning everyone, its Nikki and today I thought I would vlog.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14I live in London with my family.
0:01:14 > 0:01:15Mother's there.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17My amazing mum...
0:01:18 > 0:01:20Always cleaning!
0:01:20 > 0:01:21There's the camera! There we go.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23..my big brother, Alex...
0:01:24 > 0:01:26..my glamorous big sister.
0:01:26 > 0:01:30This is Tasha, we're going to do our make-up together.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32And my dad. He's a Spurs fan.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35I look pink.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38Now, if you're wondering why half of my face looks like this,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41it's because I have an AVM.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43AVM is a very rare medical condition.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46It's quite tricky to understand.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48So, listen up.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53The arteries pump high-pressure blood around our bodies.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56They feed little capillaries that are really tiny,
0:01:56 > 0:01:59which put the oxygen and nutrition into the tissue.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04But on the right side of my face, I don't have any capillaries.
0:02:04 > 0:02:08So my arteries grow straight into the veins,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10which aren't made for high pressure.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12So they swell and sometimes burst.
0:02:12 > 0:02:16This is what makes my face raised and also really sore,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18and gives me super bad headaches.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23Can you tell me what your name is please?
0:02:23 > 0:02:24Nicole.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Nicole!
0:02:26 > 0:02:28Mum, look!
0:02:28 > 0:02:30I was born with my AVM,
0:02:30 > 0:02:31but for the first six years of my life,
0:02:31 > 0:02:34no-one knew there was a problem,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36and I was just a happy, bouncy kid.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40When I was six, I was diagnosed with AVM,
0:02:40 > 0:02:44and that has affected my life quite a lot.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47And, yeah, I've had to call the ambulance quite a few times.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51So, this is Boris.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55We call it Boris because it's sort of brown and it's a bag.
0:02:55 > 0:02:57I have to take it everywhere with me,
0:02:57 > 0:02:59because I can have really bad nosebleeds
0:02:59 > 0:03:02and so inside there is a big plastic bowl,
0:03:02 > 0:03:04and lots of kitchen towel folded up.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06So that's really handy.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09It's like a little nose clip for if I have nosebleeds.
0:03:09 > 0:03:13And then, this is just sort of the bowl for any big nosebleeds.
0:03:13 > 0:03:18I can either get a cup full of blood or I can get like ten cups full.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21It really just depends on how bad my nose bleed is.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26'It's important my AVM doesn't get worse.'
0:03:26 > 0:03:27Hello!
0:03:27 > 0:03:31'So I'm constantly in and out of hospital for treatment.'
0:03:31 > 0:03:35I've got a little operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital
0:03:35 > 0:03:37which is a children's hospital in England,
0:03:37 > 0:03:40if you guys didn't know that. It's quite famous.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43- So, I'm going to do a set of observations on you, OK?- Yeah.
0:03:43 > 0:03:45You could probably do it yourself, couldn't you?
0:03:46 > 0:03:49I'll get it all out for you anyway.
0:03:49 > 0:03:51I've been to hospital a lot.
0:03:51 > 0:03:56I've had probably about half a year of my life spent in hospital.
0:03:56 > 0:03:59And I've had over 300 hospital appointments.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02So altogether, that's about 26, 27 operations.
0:04:02 > 0:04:05Is Daddy there? There he is.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Nikki is in pain, pretty much every day.
0:04:08 > 0:04:10But she kind of gets on with it, really.
0:04:10 > 0:04:12Takes it in her stride.
0:04:12 > 0:04:16She... She's just, pretty amazing, really.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18I've missed loads of school.
0:04:18 > 0:04:26I didn't go to school today, because I had a bad nosebleed.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28So that was not great, at all.
0:04:28 > 0:04:32You may think that last bit about missing school is cool,
0:04:32 > 0:04:33but not to me.
0:04:37 > 0:04:41I love school, and my friends are super important to me.
0:04:41 > 0:04:47- I'm Olivia.- I'm Arshan.- I'm Leah. - Are you recording this?- Yeah.
0:04:49 > 0:04:51Heavy door!
0:04:53 > 0:04:55- Tom?- Here, Miss.- Nicole? - Here, Miss.
0:04:55 > 0:04:58And missing tonnes of school means there's always
0:04:58 > 0:05:00a lot of catching up to do.
0:05:00 > 0:05:02You need to concentrate on what you're doing
0:05:02 > 0:05:05to make sure your stitches are beautiful.
0:05:05 > 0:05:09Not that I mind, as long as it's not geography!
0:05:09 > 0:05:11You've done a fabulous job,
0:05:11 > 0:05:15and you've all completed your juggling balls and your bag,
0:05:15 > 0:05:17and you can take them all home with you today.
0:05:17 > 0:05:21So, here we go. For all of that beautiful work that you've completed
0:05:21 > 0:05:23for me, it's a very well done.
0:05:23 > 0:05:26But even at school, I have to be careful.
0:05:26 > 0:05:28Bye, Miss. Thank you. Bye.
0:05:29 > 0:05:33If someone bumps into me, it could set off a nosebleed.
0:05:33 > 0:05:37So I have to leave class early to avoid the rush.
0:05:37 > 0:05:41And if my heart rate goes up too high, this can also set off a bleed.
0:05:43 > 0:05:45What my friends are doing over there now, I wish I could do.
0:05:45 > 0:05:47Yes, I hate rugby.
0:05:47 > 0:05:48Yes, I hate the cold weather,
0:05:48 > 0:05:52but I just like to experience what a normal child would do in PE, really.
0:05:53 > 0:05:54But I can use a camera.
0:05:57 > 0:06:01And for the last four years, I've been uploading vlogs.
0:06:01 > 0:06:03Hi, it's Nikki from Nikki Lilly.
0:06:03 > 0:06:06Well, hello, everybody!
0:06:07 > 0:06:10I love to share my passions...
0:06:10 > 0:06:12I really love this colour.
0:06:12 > 0:06:14..my obsession with baking...
0:06:14 > 0:06:18So today, I'm going to be showing you how to make
0:06:18 > 0:06:19confetti cake in a jar.
0:06:22 > 0:06:25..and loads of other stuff too!
0:06:25 > 0:06:29It's just before bedtime, please excuse my attire,
0:06:29 > 0:06:31I have toothpaste on my spots!
0:06:33 > 0:06:37But most importantly, it allows me to share how I feel about myself.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42My AVM wasn't doing great,
0:06:42 > 0:06:46and I just didn't think that anyone would like me any more.
0:06:46 > 0:06:49I just thought I looked like a monster and I was ugly,
0:06:49 > 0:06:53because kids at eight and also before that,
0:06:53 > 0:06:56aren't used to someone with veins on their face,
0:06:56 > 0:07:00but some people would comment that I was beautiful
0:07:00 > 0:07:04and I got a couple more comments like that, and it made...
0:07:04 > 0:07:06Not made me feel happy, because I don't mind
0:07:06 > 0:07:09about not being the most beautiful girl in the world.
0:07:09 > 0:07:11I care about inner beauty.
0:07:11 > 0:07:15But when I saw people comment such lovely things and like my video,
0:07:15 > 0:07:18it just really was heart-warming to me.
0:07:18 > 0:07:22And it was one of those things that made me really excited.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25My parents watch everything I upload.
0:07:25 > 0:07:26That is so good.
0:07:26 > 0:07:30And now, so do the 105,000 people that follow me.
0:07:30 > 0:07:33Hi, it's Nikki from Nikki Lilly.
0:07:33 > 0:07:38My Getting Ready For Prom video has nearly 1.5 million views.
0:07:40 > 0:07:42But the more views I get, the more I'm asked,
0:07:42 > 0:07:44"What's wrong with your face?"
0:07:44 > 0:07:45"You look strange".
0:07:47 > 0:07:49And it's not just online that people are curious.
0:07:52 > 0:07:54My AVM is... It's quite noticeable.
0:07:54 > 0:07:56Like, a lot of people stare at me.
0:07:56 > 0:07:58You can tell I've got veins on my face.
0:07:58 > 0:08:01Those are the first things you see, like when you see me.
0:08:01 > 0:08:03Though I don't really care about people's opinions,
0:08:03 > 0:08:06it's the staring that really gets to me.
0:08:09 > 0:08:13So, one of the best things about having a channel is that it's made
0:08:13 > 0:08:18me be able to get in contact with not only viewers that have become my
0:08:18 > 0:08:22best friends today, but also people that have an AVM,
0:08:22 > 0:08:25and it's made me feel a lot less alone and a lot more connected.
0:08:26 > 0:08:30Someone I've really connected with online is another Nikki.
0:08:30 > 0:08:32She's also got a facial AVM,
0:08:32 > 0:08:34and we've had lots of similar experiences.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38So, do people ever stare at you?
0:08:38 > 0:08:40- So much.- Yeah.
0:08:40 > 0:08:42It was a lot worse when I was younger, though.
0:08:42 > 0:08:45I feel so free and open talking to you, because you understand.
0:08:45 > 0:08:47I get that too, a lot.
0:08:47 > 0:08:50It's so much easier being able to talk to someone who understands,
0:08:50 > 0:08:52especially having a face AVM.
0:08:52 > 0:08:54It's not as easy to hide your face.
0:08:54 > 0:08:58- No, exactly.- Even with make up, you can still see that there is
0:08:58 > 0:09:00something wrong, well, "wrong".
0:09:00 > 0:09:04It's when they stare at you and don't sort of have the decency
0:09:04 > 0:09:07to say, "Oh, I was just wondering what happened to your face?"
0:09:07 > 0:09:10- Or something like that.- It's worse when you can hear them whispering
0:09:10 > 0:09:13- about it...- Yeah.- ..to their friends and it's like...
0:09:13 > 0:09:16Talk to me. I'd rather they asked instead of stared.
0:09:16 > 0:09:20Asked what's wrong, and what's happened.
0:09:20 > 0:09:22Yeah, I get a lot of pity.
0:09:22 > 0:09:25- Yeah, I don't want pity. - I don't want pity.
0:09:25 > 0:09:27I educate them on AVMs.
0:09:27 > 0:09:29Or tell them what it's really like.
0:09:30 > 0:09:33Talking with Nikki makes me even more determined
0:09:33 > 0:09:34to get my message out there.
0:09:37 > 0:09:40So, I have a illness called an AVM.
0:09:40 > 0:09:43Which stands for arteriovenous malformation.
0:09:43 > 0:09:45I used to wish this was face paint.
0:09:45 > 0:09:50Some nights I used to get a flannel and wet it and scrub my face because
0:09:50 > 0:09:53I couldn't believe it was not going to come off.
0:09:53 > 0:09:58And, after a while I realised I was going to continue getting veins,
0:09:58 > 0:10:03so you can either be negative and just not enjoy life,
0:10:03 > 0:10:07or you can be positive and live a lovely, healthy,
0:10:07 > 0:10:08joyful and happy life.
0:10:10 > 0:10:11As well as vlogging,
0:10:11 > 0:10:15there's something else that makes me feel good.
0:10:15 > 0:10:20Me and my mum are making a orange and passion fruit mascarpone...
0:10:20 > 0:10:21Is that cream?
0:10:21 > 0:10:23- Yeah, I guess so.- Three-tiered cake.
0:10:25 > 0:10:26You guessed it, baking!
0:10:26 > 0:10:29White chocolate buttercream and peanut butter buttercream,
0:10:29 > 0:10:32and a chocolate buttercream.
0:10:36 > 0:10:40Nikki, she lives, breathes, baking really.
0:10:40 > 0:10:42Especially if she's not feeling very well,
0:10:42 > 0:10:45just by putting a few ingredients into the bowl,
0:10:45 > 0:10:48she would bake things and give them to people,
0:10:48 > 0:10:52and just cheers her up, really.
0:10:52 > 0:10:55And I've never missed an episode of Junior Bake Off!
0:10:55 > 0:10:58From thousands of applications, 40 have made it
0:10:58 > 0:11:01to the Bake Off tent...
0:11:01 > 0:11:05A couple of months ago, I applied to be on the show.
0:11:05 > 0:11:06Hello?
0:11:06 > 0:11:12Hello! So, we absolutely loved meeting you at your audition,
0:11:12 > 0:11:14so I'm thrilled to say that you've made it
0:11:14 > 0:11:16onto Junior Bake Off this year!
0:11:16 > 0:11:19Oh, wow! Thank you!
0:11:19 > 0:11:22- No problem! - That's amazing!
0:11:22 > 0:11:25- Congratulations!- Thank you.
0:11:25 > 0:11:28We have a gobsmacked child here now!
0:11:29 > 0:11:31'I'm speechless.
0:11:31 > 0:11:33'Yes, me, lost for words!
0:11:33 > 0:11:34'Weird!'
0:11:35 > 0:11:37I'm on the Bake Off!
0:11:37 > 0:11:38Are you?
0:11:42 > 0:11:43Daddy?
0:11:43 > 0:11:45I'm on the Bake Off!
0:11:45 > 0:11:47- What?- I'm on the Bake Off!
0:11:47 > 0:11:50I'm really happy for you. I'm happy for me too, lots more cakes for me!
0:11:50 > 0:11:53I'm on the Bake Off!
0:11:55 > 0:12:00So, for me now, my half term, my weekends, my everyday life,
0:12:00 > 0:12:02and my thoughts are going to be about baking,
0:12:02 > 0:12:06baking, baking consistently!
0:12:06 > 0:12:07OK, I'll get you a rolling pin...
0:12:07 > 0:12:09- Can I put all of them in?- Yeah.
0:12:09 > 0:12:14Can you put all of the bourbons into a bowl, and then bash them up?
0:12:14 > 0:12:18Just go... Ooh. Get your anger out!
0:12:18 > 0:12:21My best mates have come round to help me practice.
0:12:22 > 0:12:24So, you're making Neapolitan.
0:12:24 > 0:12:28So now can you break it all up like into little pieces, both of them.
0:12:28 > 0:12:32Yeah. Measure out 50g.
0:12:32 > 0:12:35I'll need to try as many different recipes as I can
0:12:35 > 0:12:38so I can wow the Junior Bake Off judges!
0:12:38 > 0:12:40These are the bowls for the buttercream!
0:12:40 > 0:12:43Not that my friends even know I'm going to be on it...
0:12:43 > 0:12:47Until it goes out on telly, I'm not allowed to tell anyone.
0:12:48 > 0:12:50That's going to be tough.
0:12:50 > 0:12:52Look!
0:12:52 > 0:12:55But we don't stop talking about what's happening online.
0:12:58 > 0:12:59It fell on the floor!
0:13:03 > 0:13:05What do you guys watch more? Television, or like...?
0:13:05 > 0:13:08- YouTube.- Yeah.- YouTube. Definitely.
0:13:08 > 0:13:10I get up in the morning, have my alarm,
0:13:10 > 0:13:12listen to music whilst I get ready
0:13:12 > 0:13:14and then whilst I'm eating my breakfast,
0:13:14 > 0:13:17I'll just watch stuff, and then I come back from school,
0:13:17 > 0:13:19watch stuff till I go to bed.
0:13:19 > 0:13:20I eat with, like, my mum, so she's...
0:13:20 > 0:13:23It's kind of OK because she watches it with me.
0:13:23 > 0:13:26So it's like acceptable, so...
0:13:26 > 0:13:27I like Joella.
0:13:27 > 0:13:28- Yeah.- I think I know why.
0:13:28 > 0:13:30- He's mad.- Yeah.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40I don't know why. I watch them all the time now.
0:13:40 > 0:13:42Their videos are good quality.
0:13:42 > 0:13:44They're just likeable people, I think.
0:13:44 > 0:13:45Yeah, yeah, they're very relatable,
0:13:45 > 0:13:49even though we are younger than most of them, they are very relatable.
0:13:49 > 0:13:52For me and my friends, vlogging is everything.
0:13:54 > 0:13:56Hi, guys. Welcome back.
0:13:56 > 0:13:58One of my heroes is Em Ford.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03I love the vlogs on make-up and the fact she's so honest
0:14:03 > 0:14:05about her skin problems.
0:14:05 > 0:14:09And one of Em's vlogs has nearly 22 million views.
0:14:12 > 0:14:15I would love to get as many views as her,
0:14:15 > 0:14:18so I'm heading into central London, cos get this,
0:14:18 > 0:14:21she's agreed to give me some tips on vlogging.
0:14:23 > 0:14:27Someone like Em that's got like 800,000 subscribers,
0:14:27 > 0:14:28it's quite daunting.
0:14:28 > 0:14:31Cos she's one of my favourite YouTubers,
0:14:31 > 0:14:34I don't want to be really fan girlie.
0:14:34 > 0:14:36- Hi!- Hello.- Hello, how are you?
0:14:36 > 0:14:38- Good, thank you.- Nice to meet you.
0:14:38 > 0:14:41Nice to meet you.
0:14:41 > 0:14:43And she's even agreed to do a vlog with me.
0:14:44 > 0:14:46It's Nikki from Nikki Lilly
0:14:46 > 0:14:49and today I'm here with the amazing Em Ford.
0:14:49 > 0:14:53- Hi!- OK, here are Em Ford's top tips on vlogging.
0:14:55 > 0:14:58Number one, what does it take to make a great vlog?
0:15:01 > 0:15:04Just make content that you're interested in.
0:15:04 > 0:15:07It's like how would your friends describe this video?
0:15:07 > 0:15:09Yeah, that's a really good tip.
0:15:09 > 0:15:12I think it's really important, cos I feel like people can tell
0:15:12 > 0:15:13when you're interested or not.
0:15:13 > 0:15:17My favourite videos that you do are sort of your confidence ones
0:15:17 > 0:15:20and when you do the make-up tutorials on Snapchat photos.
0:15:20 > 0:15:22- I love them ones.- Yeah.
0:15:22 > 0:15:25Number two, how do you deal with getting negative feedback.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30Negative feedback can be a little bit tricky.
0:15:30 > 0:15:33- Yeah.- It really, really affected me when I first started getting it,
0:15:33 > 0:15:37but, you know, there's that saying, like, "Happy people don't troll."
0:15:37 > 0:15:38- Yeah.- And it's kind of true.
0:15:38 > 0:15:41Because happy people generally have a lot more...
0:15:41 > 0:15:44They're busy. They have better things to do.
0:15:44 > 0:15:46So I guess, just block, delete...
0:15:46 > 0:15:49- That's what I do. - ..and tell somebody.
0:15:49 > 0:15:51- Just make sure that somebody knows. - Yeah.
0:15:51 > 0:15:56Number three, how do you keep yourself safe online?
0:15:56 > 0:15:59The most important thing, first of all is,
0:15:59 > 0:16:01don't tell people where you live.
0:16:01 > 0:16:03Be very careful about what you show.
0:16:03 > 0:16:07- Yeah.- So, if you're going to do your outfit pictures, for example,
0:16:07 > 0:16:09don't do them right in front of your house...
0:16:09 > 0:16:13- Yeah, yeah.- ..because somebody could work out where you live.
0:16:13 > 0:16:16Don't talk about your school, don't show your school uniform.
0:16:16 > 0:16:19If you're showing something that you've bought,
0:16:19 > 0:16:23or you're doing and unboxing video, make sure you put permanent marker
0:16:23 > 0:16:25over your address so no-one can kind of see it.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28And if you're ever unsure, check with your parents,
0:16:28 > 0:16:32check with a friend and see what they say, yeah.
0:16:32 > 0:16:37But please remember to ask an adult before you upload anything.
0:16:37 > 0:16:41I used to sit in a park and skateboard when I was your age!
0:16:41 > 0:16:45- That's all right!- You know, you're doing better than me.
0:16:45 > 0:16:47Thank you.
0:16:47 > 0:16:50- Thank you so much. - You're so amazing.- Thank you.
0:16:50 > 0:16:53As the first heats of Junior Bake Off get closer,
0:16:53 > 0:16:56I need to step up to the mixer and practice as much as I can.
0:16:58 > 0:17:01I thought I would show you that cake
0:17:01 > 0:17:03that I was talking to you guys about.
0:17:03 > 0:17:06At the top, it had freeze-dried raspberries,
0:17:06 > 0:17:09white chocolate frosting and then I have my bread rolls
0:17:09 > 0:17:13which are very big and then I made these marzipan bees.
0:17:16 > 0:17:20But some days, my AVM gives me such bad headaches,
0:17:20 > 0:17:23it knocks me out of the running and my baking practice
0:17:23 > 0:17:25has to be put on hold.
0:17:25 > 0:17:27- Really tired?- Yeah.
0:17:28 > 0:17:31Here, I've got painkillers. Do you need a painkiller?
0:17:31 > 0:17:32- Yeah.- There you go.
0:17:33 > 0:17:36That's for you headache, OK?
0:17:38 > 0:17:40Hi, everyone.
0:17:40 > 0:17:42You're probably wondering where I am.
0:17:42 > 0:17:46I'm under my bed, because the migraines have been so bad
0:17:46 > 0:17:51and severe that I can't really face any light
0:17:51 > 0:17:53and it's been quite a rough day,
0:17:53 > 0:17:57so I'm still so glad that I got into the Bake Off and stuff like that,
0:17:57 > 0:18:03and life is still great, but sadly, I've had kind of a bit of a bad day.
0:18:05 > 0:18:10# Somewhere over the rainbow... #
0:18:10 > 0:18:14Three years ago, I had headaches all the time and nosebleeds every day.
0:18:14 > 0:18:16I love this video.
0:18:18 > 0:18:21Doctors said there was no treatment they could give me to stop me AVM
0:18:21 > 0:18:23from getting worse.
0:18:27 > 0:18:30But my dad did lots of research and found out there was a chance that a
0:18:30 > 0:18:32hospital in America could help.
0:18:40 > 0:18:43Now every two months, I fly to Denver for ten days at a time
0:18:43 > 0:18:46to have surgery at the Swedish Medical Centre,
0:18:46 > 0:18:50surgery that has literally saved my life.
0:18:52 > 0:18:54I've got like a scar on my neck from last year
0:18:54 > 0:18:56when I had a really big operation.
0:18:56 > 0:18:58They had to cut my neck open.
0:19:01 > 0:19:06'Take exit 201 on the right to US285 South.'
0:19:06 > 0:19:10We've been to Denver about 16 times for operations
0:19:10 > 0:19:14and this operation will be my 27th altogether.
0:19:15 > 0:19:17So, yeah, I've had quite a few.
0:19:18 > 0:19:20One of the good things about coming to Denver
0:19:20 > 0:19:23is that I know exactly where to get the best
0:19:23 > 0:19:26peach mascarpone pancakes in town!
0:19:26 > 0:19:28- Mascarpone.- Mmm, that's nice.
0:19:28 > 0:19:33- Like when you made your macapeach macaroons?- Try that.
0:19:33 > 0:19:37And food definitely takes my mind off the reason I'm here.
0:19:41 > 0:19:43Nikki, how are you? How are you feeling?
0:19:43 > 0:19:45I'm a bit nervous.
0:19:48 > 0:19:50Although people call me brave,
0:19:50 > 0:19:54and people think I'm really positive and inspirational,
0:19:54 > 0:19:57I do have my times that I don't show too much, when I'm feeling really
0:19:57 > 0:20:04scared and it's like I'm having my first operation all over again.
0:20:06 > 0:20:07Cos I don't know what's happening.
0:20:07 > 0:20:10They put me to sleep and I can't wake up.
0:20:10 > 0:20:14And because it is quite a risky procedure, I get really nervous.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17MUSIC: Turning Tables by Adele
0:20:33 > 0:20:34Can you sit up for me?
0:20:38 > 0:20:40First, I see my hero, Doctor Yates.
0:20:41 > 0:20:44He is a pioneer in operating on AVMs.
0:20:45 > 0:20:47What are you doing today?
0:20:47 > 0:20:51Like always, sweetheart, what we're going to do is have you
0:20:51 > 0:20:56asleep with an anaesthesiologist and we're going to look at everything
0:20:56 > 0:21:01and then we'll see what areas we need to take today. OK?
0:21:01 > 0:21:06So when I'm asleep, he'll inject a chemical called ethanol into my AVM.
0:21:06 > 0:21:07This helps to stop it growing.
0:21:09 > 0:21:11Then it's off to see my other hero,
0:21:11 > 0:21:14ear nose and throat specialist, Doctor Hepworth.
0:21:14 > 0:21:17It sounds like things are looking a lot better
0:21:17 > 0:21:18but I want to confirm that.
0:21:18 > 0:21:23Your skin, all the little changes to the skin are looking great.
0:21:23 > 0:21:25You're a TV star now!
0:21:25 > 0:21:26Great!
0:21:29 > 0:21:32My surgery normally takes about three hours
0:21:32 > 0:21:35but I think it feels longer for my mum and dad.
0:21:38 > 0:21:39It is taking time.
0:21:39 > 0:21:43It is a slow process but Nikki is getting better.
0:21:43 > 0:21:46The actual AVM itself is improving.
0:21:49 > 0:21:52It's really painful and my face can look worse after,
0:21:52 > 0:21:55but I know it's helping me fight my AVM.
0:22:01 > 0:22:02Hello, everyone.
0:22:02 > 0:22:07So it is the last day in Denver today and I haven't talked
0:22:07 > 0:22:11to you guys for a while and I just wanted to catch up, really,
0:22:11 > 0:22:13as you can see.
0:22:13 > 0:22:15I cut my hair, I've got all my comfy clothes on.
0:22:15 > 0:22:20I've got some new tracksuit bottoms from the sports shop,
0:22:20 > 0:22:23which I really love and I'm going to wear them on the plane.
0:22:23 > 0:22:26I really like my new hair. It looks really nice on camera.
0:22:30 > 0:22:34With only days to go before Junior Bake Off starts,
0:22:34 > 0:22:37it's my last chance to perfect my show stopping cake.
0:22:37 > 0:22:42- I can make a bagel.- No, you can't. I'm baking. No, you can't.
0:22:42 > 0:22:44I'm baking. Sorry.
0:22:45 > 0:22:50I am making a rose and chocolate four-layered ombre cake,
0:22:50 > 0:22:54so there's a vanilla, then a white chocolate, then milk chocolate,
0:22:54 > 0:22:57then dark chocolate and on top, there's going to be a dark chocolate
0:22:57 > 0:23:01drizzle and then edible rose petals and some chopped pistachios.
0:23:01 > 0:23:05The Junior Bake Off rules say that you only have an hour and a half
0:23:05 > 0:23:08to bake, ice and decorate your cake.
0:23:08 > 0:23:11But so far, I haven't yet finished on time.
0:23:11 > 0:23:14OK, Nikki. Bakers, stop.
0:23:15 > 0:23:18White chocolate, are you going to put it in the microwave?
0:23:18 > 0:23:20- Have you measured it?- No.
0:23:20 > 0:23:22MUSIC PLAYS
0:23:25 > 0:23:29But if I did win, I can't even, like, explain how amazing it would
0:23:29 > 0:23:33be, but if I didn't win, I would just be so happy with the experience
0:23:33 > 0:23:36and I'd probably want to do it all over again.
0:23:36 > 0:23:39- Maybe I can have a cup of tea! - No, you can't!
0:23:39 > 0:23:41Mummy, your hair's gone white.
0:23:44 > 0:23:48I am really nervous but, yeah, I think I've just got to try and
0:23:48 > 0:23:51stay cool and relax and try and remember everything,
0:23:51 > 0:23:52take it in my stride.
0:23:53 > 0:23:55Ooh, my hair!
0:23:57 > 0:24:02I think she does get a little bit flustered sometimes.
0:24:03 > 0:24:07But under pressure, she does really well under pressure.
0:24:07 > 0:24:09Oh, fudge!
0:24:10 > 0:24:13I forgot to turn my oven on, so...
0:24:14 > 0:24:15Whoopsie!
0:24:18 > 0:24:22- Want a time check? - I know I've got 33 minutes.

0:24:29 > 0:24:30and it just goes OK.
0:24:30 > 0:24:32That's what I'm really nervous about.
0:24:42 > 0:24:44I have six minutes.
0:24:45 > 0:24:49That means I have one minute to decorate. Oh, no!
0:24:49 > 0:24:51MUSIC PLAYS
0:25:00 > 0:25:04But as usual, I haven't quite finished it on time.
0:25:04 > 0:25:06- It's fine.- It looks so good.
0:25:08 > 0:25:09Wow!
0:25:12 > 0:25:15Don't squeeze my head off!
0:25:15 > 0:25:18That looks amazing.
0:25:19 > 0:25:22It's so good.
0:25:22 > 0:25:24And while my family love it,
0:25:24 > 0:25:27is it going to be enough to impress the Junior Bake Off judges?
0:25:38 > 0:25:42After spending months practising my cakes and savoury dishes,
0:25:42 > 0:25:44the day of Junior Bake Off has arrived.
0:25:45 > 0:25:49So I've got Millie, my bunny, and my bag full of lots of things
0:25:49 > 0:25:51and my sister straightened my hair
0:25:51 > 0:25:54because it was an absolute frizz bomb.
0:25:55 > 0:25:59So, yes, it's about time to leave now and I will catch up with you
0:25:59 > 0:26:03when we get in the car, I think, and we are on our way.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28Now it's finally here, it feels weird.
0:26:28 > 0:26:29It doesn't actually feel real.
0:26:29 > 0:26:31- Yeah, that's what I think. - Like, I know I'm here,
0:26:31 > 0:26:33but it doesn't actually... I feel like I'm having a dream.
0:26:33 > 0:26:35Don't you feel like you're going to wake up...
0:26:35 > 0:26:38- And it's like, yeah...- It's not... - I have to, like, pinch myself.
0:26:40 > 0:26:45I'm up against 40 of the best junior bakers in the UK.
0:26:45 > 0:26:49In five rounds, my baking skills are tested to the limit.
0:26:51 > 0:26:54I surprised myself by getting into the final.

0:27:20 > 0:27:23I do still have my bad days.
0:27:23 > 0:27:24I do still have nosebleeds.
0:27:24 > 0:27:28I do still have people staring at me and my life isn't perfect,
0:27:28 > 0:27:30but I get to school so much more often.
0:27:30 > 0:27:34I have a great group of friends that care about me
