0:00:02 > 0:00:05- It's recording.- Do you think this is going to be tough or easy?- Tough.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07But I think we can do it.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11This is what Mummy wanted me to do.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13I'm ready to do this.

0:00:13 > 0:00:18- There's a lot of pressure, though. - I was just scared.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22It was scary and exciting.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26It's on my mum's wish list

0:00:26 > 0:00:30and I want to make sure that I fulfil that wish.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43I'm Shanti.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46This is my brother Kalvin

0:00:46 > 0:00:50and this is our Nanny, as we call her.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53But there's someone missing from our family.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Movie night was a tradition for us.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00We always used to stay up late.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02We had lots of happiness together,

0:01:02 > 0:01:08so I would say that we were really, really, really close.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12Everyone was happy before she got ill.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Everyone was happy at home. It was a normal home life.

0:01:18 > 0:01:24Sadly, my mum died on the 21st August, 2015,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26right here in my home.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Loads of pictures on here. Careful.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33All of these have Mummy in it, so I like all of them.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36I think I was 11, 12 when I found out

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Mummy was first ill.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41I saw Nanny was sad for a couple of days.

0:01:41 > 0:01:46I didn't know why, though, until she sat me down on the bed

0:01:46 > 0:01:50and she was like, "I've got something to tell you."

0:01:50 > 0:01:52I'm like, "What is it? What is it?"

0:01:52 > 0:01:54She's like, "Mummy's got cancer."

0:01:55 > 0:01:57At first, I was scared because

0:01:57 > 0:02:01she's got this disease that ends lives,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04but I did think that she would get better eventually

0:02:04 > 0:02:06because she was so positive about it.

0:02:06 > 0:02:11When I first found out that she was going to leave me,

0:02:11 > 0:02:15before we found this out, she made us strong,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19so I felt a bit sad, but mostly happy.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24Mummy did change during the illness. She became more positive.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27She used it as, like, leverage to do more.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Instead of being, like, "Oh, I can't do anything!

0:02:31 > 0:02:35"I can't be cured!" she was like, "I need to do more things."

0:02:35 > 0:02:37That's life, isn't it?

0:02:37 > 0:02:38You just have to go with the flow,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40even though you might not like it at times.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43My mum used to make a lot of vlogs.

0:02:43 > 0:02:48She was really enthusiastic about them and inspired people.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51We're so strong when we need to be. It's the only thing to do.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54It's the strength and positivity that help us make it through.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58The more she posted, the bigger her following got online.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02People wanted to go through the journey with her.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Lots of people watched them...

0:03:04 > 0:03:07It's quite a normal occurrence in my house.

0:03:07 > 0:03:13..because it was funny, happy, amazing and brilliant.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14I'm eating nuts!

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Lovely. I'm sure everyone wanted to know that.

0:03:17 > 0:03:22I think my mum made these vlogs for everyone

0:03:22 > 0:03:24because she wanted her spirit

0:03:24 > 0:03:28to stay alive, even though her body wasn't here.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31If I don't make it and I'm gone before my time,

0:03:31 > 0:03:36don't be sad, cos I'm happy and I'll live whilst I'm alive.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38We take strength from her.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41We don't feel sad, me and Shanti.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43We don't feel sad.

0:03:43 > 0:03:47We feel, like, more empowered, I think, is the word.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51Before she passed she wanted us to complete a list of things.

0:03:51 > 0:03:57It's a list of what she would've wanted us to do.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00Mummy wanted us to be happy.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03- Happy, yes.- That's the main thing.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05What did she want you to do?

0:04:05 > 0:04:10Go swimming, go to singing classes.

0:04:10 > 0:04:11Take care of Nanny.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15- Um...- Driving lessons.- Yes.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17For you, not me.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Imagine you going to driving lessons.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22This is mum's wish list.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24It's a list of the things she wanted us to do

0:04:24 > 0:04:26when she was gone.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28There are lots of different things on the list,

0:04:28 > 0:04:31from helping others to learning more about cancer,

0:04:31 > 0:04:35but every single item is on it for a reason.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38I feel like I need to complete it. I have to do it.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Mum was always making vlogs,

0:04:43 > 0:04:45so we're going to make our very own film

0:04:45 > 0:04:47of our wish-list journey, just like her.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50- Hello!- We're going to shoot some of it ourselves...

0:04:50 > 0:04:53Oh, there. It's Inception now.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57..but we also have the CBBC cameras so you can see how we get on.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59- I think... Oh. - SHE LAUGHS

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Friends and family were so important to Mummy

0:05:01 > 0:05:04so we've decided to make our next movie night

0:05:04 > 0:05:06just a little bit bigger to show everyone

0:05:06 > 0:05:10what we've been up to whilst ticking off our mum's wish list.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13First, learn to swim.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15Mummy loved the water,

0:05:15 > 0:05:20but I've never been able to swim, so that's the first thing on the list.

0:05:20 > 0:05:26I'm taking armbands because this is my first time

0:05:26 > 0:05:28going to swimming lessons.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32I kind of feel nervous about swimming,

0:05:32 > 0:05:35but, mostly, I feel really excited.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41The worst thing that can happen

0:05:41 > 0:05:45is if the water is too deep and I drown.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55My mum used to do laps around the swimming pool,

0:05:55 > 0:06:00so I think she would be swimming with me by my side.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04I'm really excited for this.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Hi, Shanti.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08- Are you ready for your lesson?- Yeah.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11We're going to take your armbands off first.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15- I have always worn my armbands before.- Yeah? So this is a first?

0:06:15 > 0:06:16Yeah.

0:06:16 > 0:06:20If for some reason I couldn't learn how to swim,

0:06:20 > 0:06:26I would stop for a while, rest and try again

0:06:26 > 0:06:28because it's on my mum's wish list

0:06:28 > 0:06:31and I want to make sure that I fulfil that wish.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34Big jump. Yeah, well done.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39Good girl. Little kicks. And again. Turn. Good.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42Shall we go without our float?

0:06:42 > 0:06:45- Um...- A bit nervous? Yeah.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48This is my first lesson

0:06:48 > 0:06:52and Patsy is trying to get me comfortable in the water.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54But it's harder than it looks.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Oh, close. Good girl.

0:06:56 > 0:06:57Come a little bit closer to them.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00One, two, three.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Good girl. Well done. Super.

0:07:11 > 0:07:12Go.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Good girl. Well done.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Give me five. Brilliant.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25I'm excited to see what else you can show me.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27- Thank you.- That's all right.

0:07:27 > 0:07:28I look forward to our next lesson.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31She done well. I was actually surprised.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33I want her to do a length on her back by the end at least.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36I think that's quite doable.

0:07:36 > 0:07:37It was your first swimming lesson

0:07:37 > 0:07:39and you're doing it without armbands.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41- I know.- Were you confident, Shanti?

0:07:41 > 0:07:46Yeah, except when it came to the jumping.

0:07:46 > 0:07:54I was just scared because jumping into the water, no.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57My first swimming lesson was great!

0:07:57 > 0:07:59It was amazing. I loved it.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06I've had one lesson before and I was...

0:08:06 > 0:08:08I drove for about half an hour.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10I was scared the entire time.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14So, Mum wanted me to overcome that fear of driving.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16She conquered so many of her own fears.

0:08:16 > 0:08:17I have to do this.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23I'm just really scared to do it, but I have to.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26It is going to be daunting getting back behind the wheel.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31Kalvin has got a big responsibility.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34I'm 67 and Shanti is nine.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36He is the man of the house.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39I think it builds me up more as a person,

0:08:39 > 0:08:41having to do all these things.

0:08:45 > 0:08:46OK, so, start the engine now.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48You have to do this, Kalvin.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51ENGINE STARTS

0:08:51 > 0:08:52So, check the right mirror. Any hazards there?

0:08:56 > 0:08:57Let go of the brake.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00Remembering everything at the same time is hard...

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Turn right. Turn right. Then we'll talk. All right.

0:09:03 > 0:09:04Anything else coming on the right?

0:09:04 > 0:09:07- No.- Yep, there you go.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09..as you can see,

0:09:09 > 0:09:13but I just need to focus, concentrate

0:09:13 > 0:09:15and keep going.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19OK, so, we're going to come to the side and I'm going to drive again.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24I drove for a bit.

0:09:24 > 0:09:29It was scary and exciting and I was nervous.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31By the end of it,

0:09:31 > 0:09:36I want to learn how to drive properly, independently by myself.

0:09:36 > 0:09:37This is what Mummy wanted me to do,

0:09:37 > 0:09:39so that's why I'm doing it.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41- Hello.- Hello!- Hello, Bhaiya!

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Hello, Kalvin. How was it?

0:09:43 > 0:09:45- It was good. - Was it a good experience?- Yeah.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47I'm your driving instructor.

0:09:47 > 0:09:48OK, go.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51HE IMITATES CAR REVVING

0:09:51 > 0:09:54- SHE LAUGHS - Indicate. Indicate. Indicate.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56OK, go right.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58- SHE LAUGHS - I mean left.

0:09:58 > 0:10:04I think Mummy would feel proud about what I've learnt today.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07And Mummy was really proud of our Nanny, too.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10Even when she got really ill, like she is here,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13she still wanted to let Nanny know how much she loved her.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15I just wanted to make a quick vlog, actually,

0:10:15 > 0:10:17and tell you about my mum.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21My mum is the most amazing person in the world.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24She's the strongest lady I've ever known.

0:10:24 > 0:10:28She is my role model and I look up to her.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31Nanny is kind-hearted, strong.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35She tries to make food for us.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38She tries to do everything for us, no matter what.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40There's no meat in vegetable samosas.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Now we want to help Nanny, or at least try.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Is there anything I can help you with?

0:10:47 > 0:10:50Can you go and get the milk for me, please?

0:10:50 > 0:10:53There's blue milk. There's no more green milk.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56There is. It's sleeping.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58You have to wake the milk up.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00You do it!

0:11:00 > 0:11:03Didn't I say it's sleeping?

0:11:03 > 0:11:05- It's not sleeping.- Where? SHANTI LAUGHS

0:11:05 > 0:11:08- Exactly!- Where is the green milk gone?- What's that?

0:11:08 > 0:11:12- Yeah, didn't I say sleeping? - There we go!

0:11:19 > 0:11:21Ticking off these things on Mummy's wish list

0:11:21 > 0:11:24is really helping us to cope with her not being here,

0:11:24 > 0:11:27but some things we just need to do for ourselves,

0:11:27 > 0:11:28so today we're going to the park

0:11:28 > 0:11:31to look at her special memorial tree.

0:11:31 > 0:11:32This tree is special to me

0:11:32 > 0:11:35because it's got Mummy's ashes underneath it,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38and Mummy wanted to be buried under a tree.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42- I'm really excited. - I'm feeling emotional, actually.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Why are you feeling emotional, Nanny?

0:11:45 > 0:11:48- It is an emotional thing, isn't it? - It is just an emotional thing.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50- OK. That makes total sense.- Shanti.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01It's special here,

0:12:01 > 0:12:05but not that special because Mummy is always with us.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08She won't be in the physical form with you, but...

0:12:08 > 0:12:10She's here in spirit.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14She was my daughter, and now I've lost her forever.

0:12:14 > 0:12:22Nanny used to get very, very sad and upset about Mum leaving us.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Nanny does get sadder than us about my mum passing,

0:12:25 > 0:12:27but I think that's because, obviously,

0:12:27 > 0:12:31it is more of an unusual thing for your child to pass before you.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Shanti is the main person to cheer Nanny up.

0:12:34 > 0:12:39I always used to cheer her up giving her a little hug,

0:12:39 > 0:12:44and now she feels stronger and she gets stronger each day.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03Nanny has just dropped me off at the doctor's

0:13:03 > 0:13:05and I'm going to... Oh, it's so windy.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08I'm going to come and see Dr Hadeel

0:13:08 > 0:13:12and hopefully find out more about cancer.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17I'm coming to see Dr Hadeel. Which room is she in?

0:13:17 > 0:13:19The second door on the right-hand side.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21- OK.- OK, darling?

0:13:21 > 0:13:23SHE KNOCKS ON DOOR Hello.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Hi, Shanti. Come on in.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29This is Dr Hadeel.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32Hi, everybody! How can we help you today?

0:13:32 > 0:13:35What happens inside your body when you get cancer?

0:13:35 > 0:13:38Our bodies are made up of lots and lots of cells.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40Cells are the building blocks of life.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42They're a little bit like Lego. They make us who we are.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45They all work together to make sure that our body stays healthy.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47Healthy cells grow and they divide.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49The problem with cancer cells

0:13:49 > 0:13:51is that they don't know when to stop growing.

0:13:51 > 0:13:56So, the cancer cells forget what their job is

0:13:56 > 0:13:58so they don't know when to stop growing

0:13:58 > 0:14:00and then they keep on growing and growing.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Does everyone who has cancer die?

0:14:03 > 0:14:06No. No. Not everyone who has cancer dies.

0:14:06 > 0:14:08In fact, cancer is quite common.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10But some cancers can be very, very bad,

0:14:10 > 0:14:12but other cancers can be quite mild.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15A lot of those people will go on to live normal, healthy lives.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19Shanti, every time I see you, you're very happy and positive.

0:14:19 > 0:14:23Do you ever feel sad or angry or upset about what's happened?

0:14:23 > 0:14:24No.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27- I don't.- Not at all?- No.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30Because if Mummy didn't die,

0:14:30 > 0:14:35she would keep on suffering and it would get worse and worse,

0:14:35 > 0:14:40and I don't want her to suffer.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43But if I do get sad,

0:14:43 > 0:14:46what I do is I try to put the sad on the side

0:14:46 > 0:14:49and try and get the funny and the happy in.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53So, if I'm talking to my friends and they bring it in,

0:14:53 > 0:14:57I just joke with them and have a laugh...

0:14:57 > 0:15:00- OK.- ..to get it out of their mind

0:15:00 > 0:15:03because even they feel sad and worried.

0:15:03 > 0:15:04That's really sweet of you, Shanti,

0:15:04 > 0:15:07but I think the most important thing is how you're feeling.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10You need to think about you first.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12It's important to be positive and it's important to be happy,

0:15:12 > 0:15:17but it's also OK to feel sad and angry sometimes.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20The worst thing that you can do is to keep everything on your chest

0:15:20 > 0:15:22and not let it go.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27I'm just leaving the GP's.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09So today I'm going for an interview.

0:17:17 > 0:17:24My mum left us that list to continue our path in life.

0:17:26 > 0:17:31Yeah, I'm really nervous because this is, like,

0:20:29 > 0:20:31if I come out here all by myself.

0:20:31 > 0:20:34This is what Mum wanted me to do.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38She wanted me to go out and explore the world,

0:20:38 > 0:20:40so, yeah, I have to be ready.

0:22:20 > 0:22:25Since I had cancer, it made me realise you can do anything.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29The only people that stop ourselves are us

0:22:29 > 0:22:31because we put doubt in ourselves.

0:22:37 > 0:22:42This is, like, less than 24 hours before the party
