0:03:59 > 0:04:00ALL: Woo!
0:04:00 > 0:04:01APPLAUSE
0:04:04 > 0:04:06Can you guys really pull this off?
0:04:06 > 0:04:07- Yes.- Yeah.
0:04:07 > 0:04:09Look at us - what says here that we can't?
0:04:09 > 0:04:10SILENCE
0:04:10 > 0:04:12LAUGHTER
0:04:13 > 0:04:17But they need to raise £15,000 to fund the prom and Lewis has to work
0:04:17 > 0:04:20out how on earth he'll be able to contact a pop star.
0:04:23 > 0:04:26Oh, my God, this is too much for my brain to take in.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28All the prom guests missed out on their own school prom
0:04:28 > 0:04:31because they were unwell. Lewis knows how this feels,
0:04:31 > 0:04:34as he's spent so much time in hospital himself.
0:04:34 > 0:04:37He's had 13 operations in just 15 years.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41BEEPING
0:04:41 > 0:04:43Hospital, in my mind,
0:04:43 > 0:04:48it feels like a second home to me cos I'm in here a lot
0:04:48 > 0:04:51to have different treatment done,
0:04:51 > 0:04:54so it's kind of something I've got used to over the years.
0:04:57 > 0:04:58When Lewis was a baby,
0:04:58 > 0:05:01he had a life-saving operation to remove a large brain tumour.
0:05:01 > 0:05:04Lewis also has hydrocephalus.
0:05:04 > 0:05:07This means there is too much fluid in his head.
0:05:07 > 0:05:09The doctors put a mechanical pump in called a shunt
0:05:09 > 0:05:11to drain the fluid out and keep Lewis alive.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14But if the shunt blocks, Lewis' life is at risk.
0:05:14 > 0:05:16It is extremely scary.
0:05:16 > 0:05:20I have four hours to have the surgery
0:05:20 > 0:05:24and get everything sorted and get it unblocked
0:05:24 > 0:05:27or I could be in the worst situation possible.
0:05:29 > 0:05:31The brain tumour also left Lewis with epilepsy.
0:05:31 > 0:05:35Epilepsy is like an electrical short-circuit in the brain.
0:05:35 > 0:05:37These short-circuits are called seizures.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40Lewis has at least 35 seizures every week.
0:05:40 > 0:05:42Lewis has had a bit of a rough night.
0:05:42 > 0:05:45He had a bad seizure about half past two this morning.
0:05:47 > 0:05:48Lewis.
0:05:53 > 0:05:55Lewis, you need to get up.
0:05:55 > 0:05:56Lewis!
0:06:04 > 0:06:08So, I know to everyone else I look like a normal teenager
0:06:08 > 0:06:11and it seems like there's nothing wrong with me,
0:06:11 > 0:06:15but I wake up in the morning and I can't move from the seizures
0:06:15 > 0:06:19and the point where I struggle to write and read
0:06:19 > 0:06:22so I struggle to get through my days.
0:06:22 > 0:06:24Not looking...
0:06:24 > 0:06:27too good now, bless him, he's fallen back to sleep again.
0:06:28 > 0:06:30You wake Lewis up, go on.
0:06:37 > 0:06:39HE SIGHS
0:06:39 > 0:06:40I'm not feeling the best today.
0:06:40 > 0:06:42Are you all right?
0:06:42 > 0:06:44Have you got...
0:06:45 > 0:06:50So, planning something so big, such as the prom is quite nerve-racking
0:06:50 > 0:06:53and pressurising, having all the work just put on your shoulders.
0:06:53 > 0:06:57But, it's all going to pay off in the end.
0:06:57 > 0:07:01Aside from raising £15,000 for the prom, Lewis's biggest worry
0:07:01 > 0:07:05is finding a pop band, but Mum just might have an idea.
0:07:05 > 0:07:07Who would you want to help you plan this prom?
0:07:08 > 0:07:11Nick. He would, he would probably be a good planner, so.
0:07:11 > 0:07:14He'd be so good, wouldn't he?
0:07:14 > 0:07:16He must be so busy, right?
0:07:16 > 0:07:18He is a busy man, so yeah, that's a fair point.
0:07:18 > 0:07:20He's, like, big-time celebrity.
0:07:20 > 0:07:21Mm.
0:07:21 > 0:07:22Are you sure you want to do this?
0:07:24 > 0:07:26It's the risk I'm willing to take.
0:07:27 > 0:07:28So how are you going to do it?
0:07:28 > 0:07:31SHE WHEEZES AND LAUGHS
0:07:31 > 0:07:32Wait, don't, wait...
0:07:32 > 0:07:34What are you going to say to him?
0:07:34 > 0:07:35Hard to think. I could...
0:07:37 > 0:07:40...just what I could say to get the message across to him.
0:07:40 > 0:07:42What would you say to him if you were face-to-face?
0:07:42 > 0:07:43Um...
0:07:45 > 0:07:47HE CHUCKLES
0:07:49 > 0:07:51"Hey Nick, do you remember me?
0:07:51 > 0:07:52"It's Lewis."
0:07:52 > 0:07:54- Yeah.- Um...
0:07:54 > 0:07:57- What else do you think you can... - And if he just stands there with no
0:07:57 > 0:08:00response then we know for a fact he doesn't remember me.
0:08:00 > 0:08:01SHE LAUGHS
0:08:03 > 0:08:05"Hey Nick, do you remember me?
0:08:05 > 0:08:07"It's Lewis from the Teen Awards.
0:08:07 > 0:08:12"I need some advice on the planning of the massive prom I'm organising.
0:08:12 > 0:08:14"Thanks, from Lewis."
0:08:14 > 0:08:15- Oh!- Here we go.
0:08:15 > 0:08:16Are you really going to do it?
0:08:18 > 0:08:20- I guess.- Go on, you press it.
0:08:21 > 0:08:22Here we go.
0:08:26 > 0:08:27Done.
0:08:27 > 0:08:28Sent.
0:08:29 > 0:08:31Oh, my God, it's got two ticks, it's actually been delivered.
0:08:31 > 0:08:32Crazy. What am I doing?
0:08:32 > 0:08:33SHE LAUGHS
0:08:35 > 0:08:37Well, what do we do now?
0:08:37 > 0:08:39I don't know. It's too late now.
0:08:39 > 0:08:42I can't believe you've just text Nick Grimshaw asking him for help.
0:08:43 > 0:08:45OK, right, if he doesn't reply,
0:08:45 > 0:08:47- cos people must ask him for help all the time...- Mm-hm.
0:08:47 > 0:08:50So, let's not get too excited.
0:08:52 > 0:08:53Yay!
0:08:53 > 0:08:55SHE LAUGHS
0:09:00 > 0:09:01HE LAUGHS
0:09:04 > 0:09:05Lewis.
0:09:07 > 0:09:08Nick's text.
0:09:09 > 0:09:12Read it, read it, read it, read it, read it, read it, read it.
0:09:17 > 0:09:19The suspense is killing us.
0:09:19 > 0:09:20Read it out loud.
0:09:20 > 0:09:22"Hey, Lewis. Great to hear from you.
0:09:22 > 0:09:24"That sounds fine.
0:09:24 > 0:09:29"Why don't you come to Radio 1 one day and meet us
0:09:29 > 0:09:31"and chat through some ideas?"
0:09:35 > 0:09:36That's cool.
0:09:36 > 0:09:37HE LAUGHS
0:09:39 > 0:09:41That is really cool, let me see?
0:09:43 > 0:09:47- NICK:- Hello, good morning everybody, it is Monday morning on BBC Radio 1.
0:09:47 > 0:09:51It's Nick Grimshaw with you, on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show till 10am.
0:09:57 > 0:09:59OK, so come in here.
0:09:59 > 0:10:01This is... This is the studio, Lewis.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04So this is where we do the radio from.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07This is my, yeah, this is my spot in here.
0:10:07 > 0:10:08- Fun stuff.- So, welcome.
0:10:08 > 0:10:10All right, so who's the prom for, Lewis?
0:10:10 > 0:10:14So, basically I'm organising the prom for children with challenges
0:10:14 > 0:10:18in their life - so they have disabilities and for that reason
0:10:18 > 0:10:22they've missed their prom, so I'm basically organising the prom
0:10:22 > 0:10:26to invite them so they get to experience what it's like
0:10:26 > 0:10:28to have a prom and hopefully they...
0:10:28 > 0:10:29- Yeah.- ..have a good time.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31That's a really cool idea, that,
0:10:31 > 0:10:34to make sure everyone gets to experience it
0:10:34 > 0:10:36- and everyone gets to go. - Yeah, exactly, yeah.
0:10:36 > 0:10:38So how many people are you thinking are going to be at the prom?
0:10:38 > 0:10:42So, I reckon about 300, 400 people.
0:10:42 > 0:10:43- So this is going to be big?- Yeah.
0:10:43 > 0:10:46- It's a big old, big old party, this.- Yeah.
0:10:46 > 0:10:48What, what do you still need to do?
0:10:48 > 0:10:51So you've got the venue, you've already got people asking to come.
0:10:51 > 0:10:54- Yeah.- Yep.- But there are a few people,
0:10:54 > 0:10:57a few extra people we're wanting to come.
0:10:57 > 0:11:00And who's that, like, acts and bands and things like that?
0:11:00 > 0:11:05Yeah, so we don't know how to sort of approach them and
0:11:05 > 0:11:07- see if they can attend the event on the night.- OK.
0:11:07 > 0:11:11Pop stars' diaries are insane, like, they are booked,
0:11:11 > 0:11:14- they're probably booked to do stuff till Christmas.- Yeah.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16Actually, they work like, like dogs.
0:11:16 > 0:11:18They literally work every single day.
0:11:18 > 0:11:22But the other thing that we could do is get on to new bands before
0:11:22 > 0:11:25- everyone else.- Yeah.- So we could see who's on in the area and, like,
0:11:25 > 0:11:27what bands will be up for coming to play.
0:11:27 > 0:11:29So we could look into that, which could be really fun.
0:11:29 > 0:11:31It'd be great to have Little Mix there.
0:11:31 > 0:11:34- Yeah.- But I think you want to make the night about, you know,
0:11:34 > 0:11:36- what it's about - about having...- Yeah.
0:11:36 > 0:11:39..all these people coming together and who have not been to a prom
0:11:39 > 0:11:41who are getting to experience it for the first time.
0:11:41 > 0:11:43- Yeah, yeah. Makes sense.- Yeah.
0:11:43 > 0:11:45Or the other thing I thought could be good is, cos we have so many
0:11:45 > 0:11:48- people coming through the doors... - Yeah.- ..at Radio 1,
0:11:48 > 0:11:51so we could always get them to record a message and then you
0:11:51 > 0:11:54could have a bit of the night where you put a screen up and then
0:11:54 > 0:11:56you could have all these messages.
0:11:56 > 0:11:57Yeah, that's a good plan...
0:11:57 > 0:11:59- Yeah!- ..come up with in such a short time.
0:11:59 > 0:12:01Yeah. We should go into party planning.
0:12:01 > 0:12:03- Yes.- Let's do it.
0:12:03 > 0:12:05- We'll go down in history. - LewisFest.
0:12:05 > 0:12:06Well, good luck with it Lewis.
0:12:06 > 0:12:08- Yeah. Cool. Great.- Thanks, Lewis.
0:12:11 > 0:12:12- Hello, Mum.- What happened?
0:12:13 > 0:12:17It went a lot better than what I thought, to be honest and,
0:12:17 > 0:12:18and I'm happy.
0:12:18 > 0:12:20I think you should be happy.
0:12:20 > 0:12:23I'm chuffed. I'm chuffed.
0:12:23 > 0:12:24HE GROANS
0:12:24 > 0:12:25You're going to break my neck.
0:12:25 > 0:12:26SHE LAUGHS
0:12:30 > 0:12:32Jasmine also has some really good news.
0:12:39 > 0:12:43My main job has been finding the dresses from donations.
0:12:43 > 0:12:48I started it by giving a Facebook post out
0:12:48 > 0:12:51and I got over 200 shares
0:12:51 > 0:12:52and it went really popular.
0:12:52 > 0:12:54Guys, we got another one!
0:12:54 > 0:12:56Yay!
0:12:56 > 0:12:58It's brilliant, like, the choices
0:12:58 > 0:13:01and selection I've got for the girls.
0:13:01 > 0:13:04I mean, they're going to actually have a choice and we did it,
0:13:04 > 0:13:06with just the local community's help.
0:13:15 > 0:13:18That's so cool - and Nick is on the case.
0:13:18 > 0:13:20Lew's dream is starting to feel so real now.
0:13:27 > 0:13:30But just as everything was going so well...
0:13:31 > 0:13:34Today is a quite stressful day, Lewis had...
0:13:34 > 0:13:37a really big seizure about four o'clock this morning.
0:13:45 > 0:13:47Hello, sweetheart, are you all right?
0:13:49 > 0:13:51HE EXHALES
0:13:51 > 0:13:52Are you all right?
0:13:54 > 0:13:55I'm all right.
0:13:55 > 0:13:58- What's the matter?- It really hurts.
0:13:58 > 0:13:59Everything hurts?
0:13:59 > 0:14:01Yeah.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03You had a seizure last night, that's why.

0:19:52 > 0:19:56where my tumour was, it literally just ate everything
0:19:56 > 0:20:00on the right side so I've had to wait ten years for this to be done,

0:21:56 > 0:21:59the chances that it will just go away itself and get better
0:21:59 > 0:22:01are very small.
0:22:01 > 0:22:04Nothing's impossible, but I don't think it's going to go away.
