0:01:08 > 0:01:12Hello. Today I am in Cornwall to meet Rebecca and her pet.

0:01:12 > 0:01:17I wonder what it could be... Come on, let's go and find out.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21- Hi, Rebecca.- Hi, Rory.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23- Hi, Mum.- Hi.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26I've come to meet your pet. Is it in here?

0:01:27 > 0:01:29- Woof! Woof! Woof!- Oh, don't!

0:01:29 > 0:01:31REBECCA LAUGHS EXCITEDLY

0:01:33 > 0:01:36- That's not your pet, is it? - That's my big brother, Josh.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Oh...

0:01:38 > 0:01:41- Where's your pet? - My pet's in the back garden.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44- Shall we go and meet them, then? - Yeah.- Come on.

0:01:44 > 0:01:45Oh...

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Oh, wow!

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Who is this?

0:01:53 > 0:01:55This is my pet rabbit, Floppy.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58And she likes going out in the garden.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00- Oh, shall we let her out, then? - Yeah.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Oh, wow!

0:02:06 > 0:02:10Oh, she looks so cuddly and soft!

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Does someone else live in there with Floppy?

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Yeah. My brother's pet rabbit, Boo.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18That's great that Floppy's got company.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Rabbits like to live in pairs or in small groups.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25- Where does she like to be stroked? - On her head and on her ears.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Oh, that's lovely.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30My mum works at the vet's

0:02:30 > 0:02:35and she tells me how to look after Floppy properly.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Oh, that's great that she helps you.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39How old is Floppy?

0:02:39 > 0:02:43We don't know because we rescued her.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Because someone was, like, in a house and moved out

0:02:46 > 0:02:47and abandoned her.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Ah... But do you know roughly how old she is?

0:02:50 > 0:02:53- I think she's about three.- Ah...

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Getting a rabbit is a big commitment.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Make sure you're ready to care for one,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00like Rebecca, before you get one.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Floppy looks like a happy rabbit, doesn't she?

0:03:03 > 0:03:05She's a happy, hoppy rabbit.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Oh, she certainly is!

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Ferne, can you give us some fun facts

0:03:10 > 0:03:12about our rabbity new friend here?

0:03:12 > 0:03:18Of course, Rory. One, baby rabbits are called kittens or kits.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19Aw...!

0:03:20 > 0:03:25Two, in the wild, a family of rabbits live in a warren.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Three, rabbits move by hopping and bouncing.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34They can use their back legs to bounce really high.

0:03:34 > 0:03:38Four, rabbits have very twitchy noses.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40This is to help them sniff out things,

0:03:40 > 0:03:44like a friend approaching or an enemy hiding.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52It's really important to make sure your pet

0:03:52 > 0:03:55has lots of fresh water and plenty of food.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59Also make sure that where they live is nice and clean and comfortable.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02So, with that in mind, what are we going to do?

0:04:02 > 0:04:06We've got to clean out Floppy's hutch.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09Ah, OK. Right, what's the first thing we need to do, then?

0:04:09 > 0:04:13- Get all the hay out.- Get all the hay, all these old shavings.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26Right. Now, we've got all that out. What happens now?

0:04:26 > 0:04:30- We need to put the wood shavings in now.- Oh, fresh ones, OK.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Let's do it. OK, I'll get my hands in there.

0:04:36 > 0:04:37This is really important.

0:04:45 > 0:04:50Now we need to put some nice, clean hay in her bed area.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52OK, let's do that.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55Being clean is important for happy rabbits,

0:04:55 > 0:04:58so the hutch should be cleaned every day.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00And this hutch is nice and big.

0:05:00 > 0:05:04It's perfect for Floppy to run around, stretch and have some fun,

0:05:04 > 0:05:08as well as sleeping in this bed area we're cleaning out now.

0:05:08 > 0:05:09Let's put the fresh hay in.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Floppy's going to be really comfortable in her bed.

0:05:14 > 0:05:19Yes, she is, isn't she? She'll fall asleep straightaway. There we go.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23- What else is important for rabbits? - We need fresh water every day.

0:05:23 > 0:05:24Fresh water.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27There's not much in there.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31- We need to empty out the old water first.- OK.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Let's fill it up, nice and carefully.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44Hey, there we go.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47Let's put the lid back on. Put it back onto the hutch.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51She'll be really thirsty when she sees all the water.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54- Yeah, she will be. We need to give her some food now.- Yeah.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58- What does she like to eat? - Grass, hay and rabbit food.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02That's right. Grass and hay are really important for rabbits

0:06:02 > 0:06:06because their teeth keep growing and, if they have grass and hay,

0:06:06 > 0:06:09it means their teeth can be worn down properly.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11So that's the thing to give them.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15- Shall we give them food now? - Yeah. A big scoop.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25- You know lots about rabbits, don't you, Rebecca?- Yeah.

0:06:25 > 0:06:26Good work.

0:06:26 > 0:06:27Hey!

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Let's wash our hands.

0:06:38 > 0:06:43You must wash your hands when you've been looking after your pet.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45OK, rinse them off like this, look.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Now we've got a nice, clean hutch and lots of fresh food and water

0:06:57 > 0:07:01- for Boo and Floppy, it's playtime, don't you think?- Yeah.

0:07:01 > 0:07:02Oh, look!

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Here comes Floppy now!

0:07:06 > 0:07:08This garden is all secure

0:07:08 > 0:07:11so Floppy and Boo can play safe and won't get out.

0:07:11 > 0:07:15- What's Floppy's favourite game? - Hide and seek.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18Hide and seek? Good game! I like it.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Look, she's off down the garden!

0:07:20 > 0:07:23- That's her favourite place. Come on! - OK.

0:07:28 > 0:07:33- Right. What have we got here, then? - Floppy's food.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37- And we're going to hide Floppy's food.- Oh, we're going to hide it?

0:07:37 > 0:07:41Clever idea! Rabbits love to go foraging around for things.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44So, if you hide it, they absolutely love looking for it.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Right, what have we got, then? What's this?

0:07:47 > 0:07:51Some grass, some carrots and some spinach.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53Oh, delicious. You might think

0:07:53 > 0:07:56rabbits like to have carrots all the time,

0:07:56 > 0:07:57but they're just a treat

0:07:57 > 0:08:00because they've got lots of natural sugar in them,

0:08:00 > 0:08:02so they can't have too many.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05- What are we going to do with all these treats?- Hide them.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09- Where?- In the flowerpot. - Oh, perfect.

0:08:09 > 0:08:12- Shall we start doing it, then? - Yes.- OK.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15Put some of this in here. Let's bring it here.

0:08:15 > 0:08:16OK.

0:08:17 > 0:08:18Nice bit of spinach.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26- All of the things. - Yeah, get everything in.- Yeah.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29- They will love this. - Let's put some more grass in.

0:08:29 > 0:08:34- Bit more grass?- Yes, a bit.- And is there something else to put on top?

0:08:34 > 0:08:37- This.- Ah... Perfect.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41- Nice bit of hay. - Let's put all of it in.

0:08:41 > 0:08:46- Shall we go and hide it?- Yeah.- Let's go and find a great place. Come on!

0:08:56 > 0:08:58She's found it!

0:08:58 > 0:08:59Well done, Floppy.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06My Pet And Me!

0:09:08 > 0:09:12- Floppy loves when I brush her. - Oh, she does, doesn't she?

0:09:12 > 0:09:16Now, we know rabbits love to jump and they love to dig.

0:09:16 > 0:09:21But if Floppy could do anything, anything at all, what would she do?

0:09:23 > 0:09:27If my pet could do anything, she'd be a ballerina.

0:09:27 > 0:09:33And she would be on a big stage. She would do lots of different dances.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37She would wear a purple tutu and a pink leotard.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40And pink ballet shoes.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43Little kittens and puppies would watch her.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56It's important to take your rabbit to the vet's

0:09:56 > 0:09:58to make sure everything is OK.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Rabbits need injections every year to stay healthy.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04So we've brought Floppy and Boo to get a checkup.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11Oh, wow! Are you all here for checkups?

0:10:11 > 0:10:12- Yeah!- Perfect.

0:10:12 > 0:10:16We'd better take Floppy inside for hers. Let's go.

0:10:19 > 0:10:24- Hi, Rebecca. Who have we got here today?- My pet rabbit, Floppy.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27- And how is Floppy today?- Happy. - Good. Good.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30OK. We're going to have a look at Floppy,

0:10:30 > 0:10:33to make sure that everything is working properly.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37So we're going to make sure her eyes are nice and bright

0:10:37 > 0:10:39and they're not watering too much.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42Now we'll have a little look in these ears.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44- Is that your favourite bit?- Yeah.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46They're very soft, aren't they?

0:10:46 > 0:10:48And they look absolutely fine.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50Let's listen to her chest, Rebecca.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54- What do you think we're listening for?- Her heartbeat.

0:10:54 > 0:10:55Absolutely right.

0:10:55 > 0:10:59- I bet you've had one of those when you go to the doctor's.- Yeah.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01Do you want to have a little listen?

0:11:01 > 0:11:04OK. I'm going to pop those on. There we go.

0:11:10 > 0:11:12- Can you hear it?- Yes.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14- Is it quick?- Yes.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16So we'll just have a little feel of her tummy.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20Feel everything inside. And that's all nice and soft.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22Lovely.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25- Shall we see how heavy she is? - Yes.- OK.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29- Let's pop you on the scales, then, my friend. Isn't she brave?- Yeah.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31She's a very good little bun.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35She's all right. She's just over 2.5 kilos.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38- OK, Rebecca, does she eat all her food?- Yeah.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41- And does she drink all her water? - Yes.

0:11:41 > 0:11:44- OK. And has she had all her vaccinations?- Yeah.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46Well, I think she is absolutely tiptop.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49So I've got a little certificate for you, OK?

0:11:49 > 0:11:52It says Floppy and Rebecca have completed

0:11:52 > 0:11:55their Rabbit Awareness Week free health check.

0:11:55 > 0:11:56Well done, Floppy.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01- Rebecca.- Yes?- Thank you so much for a wonderful day

0:12:01 > 0:12:06and for introducing me to lovely Floppy here.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09SHE LAUGHS EXCITEDLY

0:12:23 > 0:12:26- Hello, Ferne.- Hi, Rory.- Hi, guys.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29- How was your day?- It was amazing.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Wait till I tell you all about it.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Today, I met Rebecca, her rabbit, Floppy,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36and her brother's rabbit, Boo.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Together, we cleaned the rabbit hutch.

0:12:41 > 0:12:44We had great fun hiding some treats for Floppy to find.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46And she did!

0:12:46 > 0:12:50Then the vet gave Floppy a checkup. And she was a happy, healthy rabbit.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55That sounds wonderful. And you made some great friends.

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Yeah, pets are great. But, remember, before you touch any animal,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02make sure it's OK with the owner first.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04But one pet you CAN play with is ours.

0:13:04 > 0:13:08Go onto the CBeebies website and play the My Pet And Me game. It's amazing.
