0:02:18 > 0:02:22- And what are their names?- BOTH: - Sticky and Twig.- Sticky and Twig?

0:02:55 > 0:03:00Rory, can you tell us fun facts about our sticky friends?

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Of course, Fern.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06There are lots of different types of stick insect.

0:03:06 > 0:03:11They can be different sizes and colours and some even have prickles.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Many stick insects rock from side to side to make themselves

0:03:17 > 0:03:23look more like sticks or leaves swaying in the breeze.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Sometimes stick insects will stay very, very still and play dead

0:03:27 > 0:03:31so that other creatures won't bother them.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41It's very important to look after stick insects carefully

0:03:41 > 0:03:43because they're in a tank

0:03:43 > 0:03:46and they're entirely dependent on their owners.

0:03:46 > 0:03:51- So, what you do to look after Sticky and Twig?- We clear out the tank.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55- OK, and how often do you do that? - Once a week.

0:03:55 > 0:04:01- Shall we get started?- BOTH:- Yes. - That one is actually Twig.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03We'll put them in here to be safe.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09- This one's Sticky?- Yes. Sticky. - Here we go.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Put you nice and safely in there with your friend.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17OK, shall we put the lid on so they don't escape? Be very, very gentle.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Shall we take out all these old privet leaves

0:04:20 > 0:04:28- so we can put in the nice new ones? - Yes.- Thank you, Max.

0:04:28 > 0:04:30I have to be very gentle, don't I?

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Because there's not only poos on this paper...

0:04:33 > 0:04:36- BOTH:- There's eggs.- There's eggs.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40So, are we going to pick out the eggs?

0:04:40 > 0:04:44And put them in here so they can join the rest of the eggs.

0:04:44 > 0:04:48The eggs are kept in the jar until they hatch into baby stick insects.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52The eggs are round and the poos are long and thin.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54- Another egg.- I picked an egg up.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57Here's another one. There could be more.

0:04:57 > 0:05:01- So, we put in new kitchen roll? - BOTH:- Yes.

0:05:01 > 0:05:05And their nice fresh water so they can drink,

0:05:05 > 0:05:11- and the final fun bit - their leaves!- Privet leaves!

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Turn it into a jungle.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16You must put the privet branches in the water

0:05:16 > 0:05:20because if the stick insect falls in it wouldn't be able to get out

0:05:20 > 0:05:28- so it can climb out using these. - Sticky will love his house.- Done!

0:05:28 > 0:05:34- Done! Are we done?- BOTH:- No! We need to spray it with water!- OK!

0:05:34 > 0:05:39It's very important to spray their tank with water to keep it moist,

0:05:39 > 0:05:41or else the stick insects might dry out.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45Make sure you get all the leaves so they can have water to drink.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52- Shall we put them in and see how happy they are?- Yes!- All right.

0:05:52 > 0:05:57So, here you go. Here's one of them. Put it in the middle.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30- What we have to do when we hold Sticky?- Be careful.- We do, don't we?

0:06:30 > 0:06:32She's very, very delicate

0:06:32 > 0:06:36and so you never pick up a stick insect or else you could hurt them.

0:06:36 > 0:06:41Instead, you let them walk onto your hand. Who would like to hold her?

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Would you? All right, Max, you're first.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Put your hand there. Let her walk on.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48- She's all tickly, isn't she?- Yes.
