0:01:25 > 0:01:29And who is in here? This must be your cat.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32- That's Brody. - Brody is absolutely gorgeous.

0:01:32 > 0:01:37- You must love him very much.- Yes. - What do you love about him the most?

0:01:37 > 0:01:40He sleeps in my arms and he's so playful.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44- He sleeps IN your arms? That's SO sweet, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48What a lovely cat. Now, do you know what sort of cat Brody is?

0:01:48 > 0:01:51- He's a Ragdoll cat.- Oh, of course he is, I thought so.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53How can you tell that he's a Ragdoll?

0:01:53 > 0:01:57Because he's very fluffy and he loves lots of cuddles.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Yes, he's got this long, long hair, a big bushy tail, and they're

0:02:01 > 0:02:05very relaxed, so they're happier to be handled than other cats.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09Loves a big cuddle, don't you? Yes, look at that lovely cuddle there.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11It's very nice.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13What else do all Ragdoll cats have?

0:02:13 > 0:02:17- Blue eyes.- Yes, big blue eyes.

0:02:17 > 0:02:18Very nice indeed.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20How old is Brody?

0:02:20 > 0:02:22He's nearly one.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24- Oh, so he's still very young.- Yes.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27He's very sweet-natured and very calm. That's nice.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30And how do you get Brody's fur so soft?

0:02:30 > 0:02:32I always brush him.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36- Aw, do you? And keep all the muck out of that hair?- Yeah.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Keep it nice and clean.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42He looks fantastic. So, what are Brody's favourite things to do?

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Looking out the window, playing with his toys, sleeping,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48and using his scratching post.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52- That is LOADS of things. Lots of cats love sleeping, don't they?- Yeah.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Cats actually can sometimes sleep ALL day!

0:02:55 > 0:02:57That's much more than you and I!

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Ferne, can you give us some fun facts about our new feline friend?

0:03:01 > 0:03:03'Of course, Rory!

0:03:04 > 0:03:08'Ragdoll cats come in lots of different colours,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09'like brown...

0:03:09 > 0:03:11'white...

0:03:11 > 0:03:12'and grey!

0:03:14 > 0:03:17'Lots of Ragdoll kittens are born white

0:03:17 > 0:03:21'and they get their colours as they start to grow up.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25'Ragdoll cats tend to be very affectionate,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28'and most of them love playtime and cuddles.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29'Aww!'

0:03:38 > 0:03:43Cats are amazing animals and, like most pets, need lots of love,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46care and attention. How do you look after Brody?

0:03:46 > 0:03:50I give him food, I give him water, I brush him

0:03:50 > 0:03:53and I clean out his litter tray.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55- So, you've got lots to do, then? - Yeah.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57What do we need to do first?

0:03:57 > 0:04:00Clean out his litter tray, where he does the toilet.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03Yes, I thought you were going to say that.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06A bit of a stinky job but a very important one.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09The cat won't go in a very dirty litter tray.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12- What do we need to do first? - First, we have to put on gloves.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16Good idea. We should keep our hands nice and clean.

0:04:21 > 0:04:22Right, gloves on.

0:04:22 > 0:04:27- Now, I think we should take this lid off, shouldn't we?- Yes.- OK.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Get that out the way. Oh.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32What are you doing?

0:04:32 > 0:04:34- Oh, wow! That's where the scoop is? - Yeah.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37One of these bags, I'll pinch one of these.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39Close that back up.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41How often do you clean the litter tray?

0:04:41 > 0:04:45Once a day but sometimes my mummy does it when I'm at school,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47if there's anything in it.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49That's a good idea, isn't it?

0:04:49 > 0:04:54We use this scoop to scoop out the poo and we put it in this bag.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56There's one there.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04- Any more?- No.- Doesn't look like it.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09If there's wet, we have to empty it all out and replace it.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12- All of it?- Yeah. - OK, that looks nice and dry.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15We don't have to change the litter today, do we?

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Right, let me tie this up.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23Put more litter in, so it's nice and fresh.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26That looks good, doesn't it? There we go.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29Now let's even all this out now.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35- Great!- Put the lid back on. - Good thinking.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39All done. Brody's going to be happy,

0:05:39 > 0:05:42he's got a nice, clean, fresh litter tray.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44We need to feed him, Rory.

0:05:44 > 0:05:48OK, let's get these gloves off and wash our hands.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15Most cats like to eat a variety of food.

0:06:15 > 0:06:19Some have wet food, some have dry food, and some have both.

0:06:19 > 0:06:20What does Brody like to eat?

0:06:20 > 0:06:24He likes dry biscuits and wet food pouches,

0:06:24 > 0:06:27and he gets treats sometimes, when he's good.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30- Oh, lovely! Only when he's good, though?- Yeah.

0:06:30 > 0:06:34- Where do you keep the food in the house?- I keep his dry biscuits

0:06:34 > 0:06:37in the cupboard and I keep wet food pouches

0:06:37 > 0:06:41in the fridge if they've been opened.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Yes, that's a very good idea.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46Keep open wet food pouches in the fridge, so they won't go off.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48How much do you feed Brody?

0:06:48 > 0:06:50I give him one food pouch a day

0:06:50 > 0:06:55and dry biscuits - but he doesn't eat them all at once.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59- Okey doke. Shall we give him some now, then?- Yes.- Right.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08- OK, and now the wet food?- Yes.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19- Don't want to waste any, do we?- No.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21There we go.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Cats only eat a small amount of food at a time.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27They may eat all their wet food and just a little dry.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Don't worry, they'll come back and nibble it later.

0:07:30 > 0:07:34- I see something else here. A very fancy thing, isn't it?- Yes.

0:07:34 > 0:07:35What's this all about?

0:07:35 > 0:07:40- Brody likes running water. It's like a mini waterfall.- It is, isn't it?!

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Now, a lot of cats like to drink running water.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47Some cats even go to the tap to drink it. This device is very clever,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50cos it's got running water from here that dribbles down,

0:07:50 > 0:07:55so Brody can get some nice, fresh running water. What a very lucky cat!

0:08:10 > 0:08:14- Brody is such a cuddly, lovely cat, isn't he?- Yes.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16Oh, he's loving these cuddles.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18If Brody could do anything,

0:08:18 > 0:08:20what do you think he would do?

0:08:20 > 0:08:22DRUMROLL

0:08:24 > 0:08:30If my pet could do anything, he would jump on rooftops...

0:08:30 > 0:08:32and jump from house to house.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35He would go in someone else's house...

0:08:37 > 0:08:41..and take another cat's food and water.

0:08:41 > 0:08:45And, then, he would go back up on the rooftops and do a somersault.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52And at the end he would dress in a kilt and play the bagpipes.

0:08:55 > 0:08:59Brody's a very lucky cat. Today he's getting a special treat.

0:08:59 > 0:09:01He's getting his claws clipped

0:09:01 > 0:09:04and he's going to be groomed at the parlour.

0:09:04 > 0:09:08Rory, please can you help me put Brody in his carry-case?

0:09:08 > 0:09:10- Yeah, for sure. You got it there?- Yes.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13You open it up and I'll put Brody in.

0:09:13 > 0:09:14Here we go.

0:09:16 > 0:09:17There we go, Brody.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20He looks nice and safe in there, doesn't he?

0:09:20 > 0:09:24I like to give him a toy, so he's not scared.

0:09:24 > 0:09:25OK, you pop that in.

0:09:28 > 0:09:29There we go.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34- OK, good to go!- Come on.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48- Hi, Jack.- Hi, Rory. Hi, Lily.- Hi.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50What's Brody getting done today?

0:09:50 > 0:09:52He's getting his nails done.

0:09:52 > 0:09:56So, we clip his nails and then give him a brush.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58Come on. Oh.

0:09:58 > 0:09:59There we go.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05He's a bit wriggly today, isn't he?

0:10:07 > 0:10:08Like that.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Because Brody's an indoor cat, it's important for him

0:10:13 > 0:10:16to get his claws clipped every four-to-six weeks.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18So, we'll take about a third off

0:10:18 > 0:10:22- and that'll stop him getting stuck in the carpet.- OK.- Do you know

0:10:22 > 0:10:26- how many claws Brody has?- He has five on each paw at the front,

0:10:26 > 0:10:28and four on each paw at the back.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32- That's right, so 18 in total. That's a lot of claws, isn't it?- Yes.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34There you are. All nice and short.

0:10:34 > 0:10:36Very good.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40We've clipped the claws, is it time for some brushing now?

0:10:40 > 0:10:42- Do you want to do some brushing? - Yes.

0:10:42 > 0:10:46It's important to brush him, so his hair doesn't mat.

0:10:46 > 0:10:48Gently brush the way the hair grows.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51I'll get him with a comb for taking all the undercoat away,

0:10:51 > 0:10:54so it stays nice and clean, and nice and soft.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57The hair he's shedding comes off in the comb

0:10:57 > 0:11:01- and stops fur balls.- Sometimes Brody gets fur balls.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04That's when they get fur in their mouth

0:11:04 > 0:11:08- and then they make a funny noise. - Do they?- Yeah.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11- Is that because they're coughing it up?- Yeah.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15That's why it's very important to brush him with this nice comb.

0:11:15 > 0:11:19You can see there all the hair that's come out. Look at all that.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23- That's Brody just about done now. - Great, let's get his box.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27- Here you go, Brody. - One, two, three!

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Good boy, well done.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33Perfect! Thanks very much, Jack.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37- You're very welcome.- See you later. - See you later, goodbye.- Bye.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42- Brody has been a very good cat today, hasn't he?- Yeah.- Yes.

0:11:42 > 0:11:46- I think he deserves a bit of playtime, don't you?- Yes.

0:11:46 > 0:11:50- This is my little brother, Fraser. - Hi, Fraser.- Hi, Rory.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53- Are you ready to play with Brody? - Yes.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55- Lily, are you ready?- Yes.- OK.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Right, Brody. Right, Brody.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02You have a go, see if Brody'll come.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06- He's got it in his mouth. - Hee-hee!- Ah!

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Oh, a paw on it!

0:12:09 > 0:12:11- Oh!- Ha-ha-ha!

0:12:13 > 0:12:17- Oh! He got it! - Oh, he's got it completely!

0:12:17 > 0:12:18There!

0:12:18 > 0:12:22- Brody, well done.- He took it away!

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Well, guys, thank you very much for letting me meet Brody.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29I've had a wonderful day and he is a brilliant cat.

0:12:47 > 0:12:51- I can see that.- You look happy, what have you been up to?

0:12:51 > 0:12:54I'm very happy, I had a great time with my new friends.

0:12:54 > 0:12:58- It was so much fun!- That's lovely! - Aw. Pets are brilliant,
