0:01:17 > 0:01:21Today, I'm in Dorset to meet Arthur and his pet sheep, Twinkle.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24I like the sound of this. Let's go find them.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32- Hi, Arthur.- Hi, Ferne.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35- And you must be Nanny, hello. - Hi, Ferne.- Who's this?

0:01:35 > 0:01:37- Twinkle.- She's beautiful.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Hi, Twinkle.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41She is a very friendly sheep.

0:01:41 > 0:01:46- What type of sheep is she? - She's a Poll Dorset.- A Poll Dorset.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47- Yes.- Hi.

0:01:47 > 0:01:52- So, how long have you had Twinkle? - I got her when she was a baby.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56- You had her when she was a lamb? - Yes.- I hear she is very special.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59She's done something great for you. What did she do?

0:01:59 > 0:02:02She helped me to walk.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04How did she do that?

0:02:04 > 0:02:08When I'd fall over, Twinkle helped me up.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11So, she helped you to stand up. You held on to her?

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Yes. She's very clever.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17That's amazing. You have other sheep, don't you, Arthur?

0:02:17 > 0:02:20- Yes.- And I hear you do something really fun with them.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23- I take them to shows. - What do you do at the shows?

0:02:23 > 0:02:27- We win awards. - And has Twinkle won any awards?

0:02:27 > 0:02:31- Yes. Twinkle's a champion. - Can you show me some photos?

0:02:33 > 0:02:38- Is that Twinkle when she was tiny? - Yes.- Look at the size of her.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41- What's that?- That's when she won.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45- Is that your trophy with Twinkle? - Yes.- That is amazing.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48- But you're not showing her now, are you?- No.- Why?

0:02:48 > 0:02:52- Cos she's having a baby.- She's going to have her own lamb soon?

0:02:52 > 0:02:54- Yes.- Are you excited?

0:02:54 > 0:02:56- Yes.- Are you two best friends?

0:02:56 > 0:02:58- Yes.- That is lovely.

0:02:58 > 0:03:03Rory, could you tell us some more facts about our woolly friends just

0:03:03 > 0:03:05while we give Twinkle a little bit of a cuddle?

0:03:05 > 0:03:09Oh, she's so nice, isn't she?

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Oh, she sure is, Ferne.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15There are two different kinds of Dorset sheep -

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Dorset Horn and Poll Dorset.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22The main difference is that the Poll breed doesn't have horns.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28The Dorset sheep is one of the few breeds of sheep that can produce

0:03:28 > 0:03:31baby lambs all year round. Aw!

0:03:33 > 0:03:37A group of sheep is called a flock and sheep like to move around

0:03:37 > 0:03:41in a flock because it is safer when they're all together.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Twinkle and the rest of the flock are farm animals and just like all

0:03:50 > 0:03:53animals, they need lots of care and attention.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58Arthur, how do you look after Twinkle and her friends?

0:03:58 > 0:04:01Give them food and get them ready for the shows.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05That sounds like fun. Arthur's sheep come into the barn before shows

0:04:05 > 0:04:09or when they're pregnant and about to have lambs, like Twinkle.

0:04:09 > 0:04:14- And can I help you today? - Yes. But I've got a surprise first.

0:04:14 > 0:04:15I love surprises!

0:04:21 > 0:04:25These are our newborn lambs.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Arthur, this is the most amazing surprise ever.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31They're gorgeous. She's so tiny.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Hello. So, how old is this one?

0:04:34 > 0:04:36Four days old.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39- And this little one?- Three days old.

0:04:39 > 0:04:43- Are those their mothers in the corner?- Yes.- Hello, girls.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46They're keeping a careful watch, aren't they?

0:04:46 > 0:04:49Yes. They're very good mums.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53- Do these little lambs have any names yet?- Yes.- What are they?

0:04:53 > 0:04:56- That one's Ferne and this one's Rory.- No way. Really?

0:04:56 > 0:04:58- Yeah.- That's fantastic.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01Hello, Ferne. BAA!

0:05:02 > 0:05:05- Is that Rory shouting?- Yes!

0:05:05 > 0:05:10- Is that little one starting to grow horns?- Yes.- Will Ferne grow horns?

0:05:10 > 0:05:13- Yes.- It doesn't look like it. Where are your horns?

0:05:13 > 0:05:15They're under there.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18- They're underneath all her wool. - Yeah.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23I just love cuddling these little lambs.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Arthur, we have some work to do.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28- What do we need to do next? - Feed all the sheep.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32- That's important. Shall we go? - Yes.- OK. Bye, lambs.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42Right, Arthur, what do we need to feed them?

0:05:42 > 0:05:45- Nuts.- And these are special sheep nuts.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47- Yes.- OK. Come on, girls.

0:05:49 > 0:05:50Lunchtime.

0:05:53 > 0:05:57BAA! BAA! Oh, they're hungry.

0:05:57 > 0:05:58Listen to them.

0:06:00 > 0:06:05- Why are you feeding them nuts? - Because their baby lambs get bigger.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07So are all of these ewes pregnant?

0:06:07 > 0:06:11- Yes.- And why has Nanny sprayed spots on their back?

0:06:11 > 0:06:14They're having two babies or one baby.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18- So one spot means they're having one lamb and two spots, two lambs?- Yes.

0:06:18 > 0:06:22That's really clever. And this helps the lambs grow nice and strong?

0:06:22 > 0:06:24Yes. That's enough.

0:06:24 > 0:06:28- So, as well as nuts, what else do they eat?- Hay.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30- Shall we get that next?- Yes.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33The sheep eat lots of hay.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Here you go, girls.

0:06:40 > 0:06:45- What do we need to do next?- We need to give this one a bubble bath.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48- What?- Yeah! - Why do we need to do that?

0:06:48 > 0:06:51So she can get clean for the show.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53OK. Normally, sheep aren't given baths

0:06:53 > 0:06:56but sometimes if they're taking part in a show

0:06:56 > 0:06:59they are specially washed to make them nice and clean.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02- Shall we go find her?- Yes.- OK.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11- Hiya.- She's really dirty.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15We have to get her all wet.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17OK. You show me how it's done.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20Good girl. Well done.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22HE SQUEALS

0:07:24 > 0:07:26Is she sharing her bath with you?

0:07:26 > 0:07:27Yes!

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Time for bubbles!

0:07:30 > 0:07:34This special sheep soap smells amazing, doesn't it?

0:07:34 > 0:07:39- Yes.- She's going to be the best-smelling sheep. Aren't you?

0:07:39 > 0:07:42All of this lovely soft wool, what's it called?

0:07:42 > 0:07:44- Fleece.- Yeah, that's right.

0:07:44 > 0:07:48But she doesn't have much fleece, does she? Why's hers so short?

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Cos we sheared it off.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55- You sheared her?- Yes. - Sheep get sheared every year.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57It helps to keep them cool in summer

0:07:57 > 0:08:00and also makes the fleece nice and neat for shows.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05It's just like getting your hair cut and sometimes the wool's used to

0:08:05 > 0:08:07make clothes like woolly jumpers.

0:08:08 > 0:08:13Oh, my goodness, look at all that muck coming off.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17- Towel time. - Let's get you nice and dry.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21- She's looking a lot fluffier.- Yeah.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24- This looks like a superhero cape. - Yeah!

0:08:27 > 0:08:30She looks clean for the show.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Yeah, she does. But what do we need to do?

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Wash our hands.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45Twinkle and the sheep enjoyed their food, didn't they?

0:08:45 > 0:08:47They ate it all up.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51They did. If Twinkle could do absolutely anything, Arthur,

0:08:51 > 0:08:53what would she do?

0:08:56 > 0:09:01If Twinkle could do anything, she would jump over the fence

0:09:01 > 0:09:05and head to the supermarket to buy a snack.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10She would pay for the snack with wool

0:09:10 > 0:09:13because she hasn't got any money.

0:09:13 > 0:09:19She would sit on the swing and eat her snack with a big, happy smile.

0:09:28 > 0:09:33We are all ready for the country show and I'm so excited.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Arthur, you look very smart.

0:09:35 > 0:09:41- Doesn't he?- Yeah!- Are you excited? - Yes. I hope we win a rosette.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44- I hope you do, as well. Shall we go?- Yes.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47Come on. Let's win you a rosette.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53This is the country show.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58There's so many different animals to see.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Horses,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06dogs,

0:10:06 > 0:10:09piglets,

0:10:09 > 0:10:11and lots of cows.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Arthur, these cows are fantastic. Look at the size of him.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19- Wow!- I've never seen one so big.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21Welcome to the show.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23Thank you. I love it.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29There's so much to see, but we need to get ready for the competition.

0:10:31 > 0:10:35- So, what do we need to do to get her ready?- Brush her.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Can I help with that? - Yes.- OK. Come on.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45- Is this right?- Yes.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52We have to make her really fluffy.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56- And what else do we need to do? - We need to clean her nose.

0:10:56 > 0:11:01- Wow! So the judges are even going to look at a sheep's nose?- Yeah.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07- Do you think she's ready? - Yeah.- Good luck.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10Good luck, cute eyes. Come on, then.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20Nanny's in the same lamb competition.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22- Nanny!- Hello, darling.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33Good luck!

0:11:33 > 0:11:38The judge is looking at the sheep to see if they're healthy and strong.

0:11:41 > 0:11:46And Arthur's now showing the judge how well his sheep walks.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48That was a brilliant walk.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50Arthur did so well.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56It's decision time for the judges.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03Nanny won first place.
