0:02:11 > 0:02:12A kid, like me.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43- Baa! - Baa!

0:02:43 > 0:02:44Are you going to do it? Baa!

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Eva, what is your favourite thing about having goats?

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Very silly. I love them.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Rory, could you tell us some more facts

0:02:57 > 0:02:59about Roxie and her goat friends here?

0:03:00 > 0:03:01Of course, Ferne.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Saanen goats are sometimes called gentle giants

0:03:07 > 0:03:10because they can grow up to be very big goats.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17The Saanen breed is the largest breed of Swiss goat.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19They have white skin and a short white coat.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28The Saanen goat is a dairy goat, which means they make lots of milk.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31You can drink goats' milk and it can be used

0:03:31 > 0:03:33to make lots of food, like cheese.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Having a pet means that you have to give it a lot of love,

0:03:49 > 0:03:52care and attention and pet goats can be pretty hard work,

0:03:52 > 0:03:56- can't they, Eva? - Yes, I look after them every day.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58What do you need to do to look after your pet goats?

0:03:58 > 0:04:03We need to give them water, food and hay and we need to muck them out.

0:04:03 > 0:04:04That sounds like a lot of work.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08- Can I help you out?- Yes, please, Ferne.- OK. Let's go.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12See you soon, goats.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17Someone's ready. Hello.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21- Who is this? - This is Salubrious.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25Hi, Salubrious. Lovely to meet you. She's beautiful.

0:04:25 > 0:04:30- Why is she in here?- Because we have to put fresh straw in her house.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32That's good. And is this her pen?

0:04:32 > 0:04:34- Yes.- That is amazing.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36Look at all of those awards.

0:04:36 > 0:04:37Did your family win all of them?

0:04:37 > 0:04:40Yes, our goats are really good at shows.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43They definitely are, they're champions.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Shall we get it started?

0:04:48 > 0:04:51Nice big handful.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53- Do you want to take this bit?- Yeah.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57Wow.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05- And you just shake it? - Yeah.- It makes it nice and soft.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07Can I help you?

0:05:07 > 0:05:11- Yes, please. Come on in. - This is my sister, Vanessa.

0:05:11 > 0:05:16OK. We need to break up all the pieces to make it nice and fluffy.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18This is going to be so cosy.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Salubrious will love this.

0:05:20 > 0:05:21Yes.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Goats don't like being outside in the rain, do they, Eva?

0:05:24 > 0:05:27No, they don't. They don't even have umbrellas.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29No, they don't have umbrellas.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32It's very important for goats to have both outdoor and indoor areas,

0:05:32 > 0:05:34like this pen.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37Saanen goats have very pale skin so it's good that they have shade

0:05:37 > 0:05:40when it's sunny so they don't get sunburned.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42Great job, Vanessa and Eva.

0:05:42 > 0:05:43This looks very comfy.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45What do we need to do next?

0:05:45 > 0:05:48We need to give them hay, food and water.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52- Shall we go?- Yes. - Shall we go?- Yes.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56Myself and Vanessa will get the hay.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59What's in the goat meal?

0:05:59 > 0:06:00Barley, maize and oats.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02So is it like a goat granola?

0:06:02 > 0:06:03Yes. They love it.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07How often do you give it to them?

0:06:07 > 0:06:10- Twice a day. Two scoops. - Shall we bring it in?- Yes.

0:06:14 > 0:06:15- Shall we put it in here?- Yes.

0:06:18 > 0:06:19Thank you, Vanessa.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Right, so, what do we need to do next?

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Get the water. Sounds good.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Do goats drink a lot of water?

0:06:31 > 0:06:35- Yeah.- And how often do you do this?

0:06:35 > 0:06:38We give them fresh water twice a day.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40That's really important, isn't it?

0:06:40 > 0:06:43- Yes.- That looks full enough.

0:06:45 > 0:06:47- Shall we put the water here?- Yes.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49Perfect. Right,

0:06:49 > 0:06:53so she's got fresh water, a nice clean bed and lots of food.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Shall we get her in and see if she likes it?

0:06:55 > 0:06:56Come on, Salubrious.

0:06:58 > 0:06:59What do you think?

0:07:01 > 0:07:03I think she likes it a lot.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05- Definitely. - Eva, have we finished?

0:07:05 > 0:07:07We need to give the kids some milk.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10That sounds fun. See you later. Bye, Salubrious.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20So this is where you milk the goats, Eva.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23- And your dad's going to help us. Hiya.- Hello, Ferne.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Right, shall we get started?

0:07:28 > 0:07:31Daddy's putting the clusters onto Alice.

0:07:33 > 0:07:35Wow, look at all the milk going through.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39Saanen goats are brilliant dairy goats

0:07:39 > 0:07:41which means that they make loads of milk.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45Look at them go. I can't get over how much milk there is.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48You can just feel it and it's warm.

0:07:48 > 0:07:54Is it warm? Oh, my goodness, it is.

0:07:54 > 0:07:55Shall we take it to the kids?

0:07:55 > 0:07:57- Yes.- They're going to love this.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02Milk time.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Move over.

0:08:09 > 0:08:12Look at this. Because these kids are a bit older,

0:08:12 > 0:08:14they don't need milk from their mothers any more,

0:08:14 > 0:08:17but it's nice to give it to them as a treat sometimes.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20- They really are hungry. - Yes, they are.

0:08:20 > 0:08:25- But we still have one more thing to do. What is it?- Wash our hands.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28- See you, goats.- See you, guys.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40We're so lucky it's not raining,

0:08:40 > 0:08:42because Roxie's loving being outside, isn't she?

0:08:42 > 0:08:44She loves her food.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47She does. Eva, if Roxie and the goats could do absolutely anything,

0:08:47 > 0:08:49what would they do?

0:08:52 > 0:08:55If my pet goats could do anything,

0:08:55 > 0:08:58they would be Irish dancers.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01They would enter a big competition

0:09:01 > 0:09:06and wear white dresses with gold sparkles.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09All the other goat friends would love their dances

0:09:09 > 0:09:13and give them really high scores.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15They would win a really big trophy.

0:09:23 > 0:09:27Sometimes, goats need to be washed and brushed to keep their coats nice

0:09:27 > 0:09:28and clean and healthy.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30Do you like brushing Roxie?

0:09:30 > 0:09:33- Yes.- She's very soft, isn't she?

0:09:33 > 0:09:34And do you brush all of your goats?

0:09:34 > 0:09:38Yes, I brush them before shows so their coats are shiny and soft.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41And your goats do lots of shows, don't they?

0:09:41 > 0:09:46Yes, I'm going to do a show for you today and you can be the judge.

0:09:46 > 0:09:47That sounds like so much fun.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51I think Roxie is looking brushed and ready. Should we go to the show?

0:09:51 > 0:09:52- Yeah.- Come on.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Eva goes to lots of agricultural goat shows

0:10:00 > 0:10:01and I can't wait to be a judge

0:10:01 > 0:10:03at the show she's putting on for me today.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07Our first obstacle is a tricky one.

0:10:07 > 0:10:08The cans.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12So, competitors have to weave their goats in and around the cans,

0:10:12 > 0:10:15being really careful not to knock them over.

0:10:15 > 0:10:16Straight from the cans,

0:10:16 > 0:10:21you go on to the big climb and that's where goats have to be really

0:10:21 > 0:10:22steady with perfect balance

0:10:22 > 0:10:25to climb up all the way onto this hay bale and do

0:10:25 > 0:10:29a big jump off to the last area, which is the judging area.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32So I'm going to stand here and I'm going to inspect the goats to see if

0:10:32 > 0:10:37they have lovely clean noses, bright eyes, good strong backs, shiny,

0:10:37 > 0:10:41soft coats and good hooves.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45It's going to be so exciting and we're ready for Eva and Roxie.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Perfect start, well done.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56Great job around the cans. You didn't even hit one.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59Big climb. This is really tough for such a young goat.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02Remember, she's only five months old.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05She definitely deserves a bit of a nibble at the end, doesn't she?

0:11:05 > 0:11:06Good job, Roxie.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08And what about the big jump.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10Come on, Roxie!

0:11:10 > 0:11:12That was great.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15If you'd like to bring her over here to the judging area.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Let's check out your nose.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21She's got a lovely clean nose.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23She's got really bright eyes.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26And she's got a lovely strong back.

0:11:26 > 0:11:27Let's see your hooves, Roxie.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32They are perfect. They look really healthy.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34Great marks, well done.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Roxie is such a beautiful goat, isn't she?

0:11:38 > 0:11:41Gorgeous, Roxie, and she did so well.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43I can't believe she's only five months old.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47- Are you very proud of her? - Yes, I'm so, so proud of her.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51I think that you and Roxie did amazing in that.

0:11:51 > 0:11:55You are a top goat owner and I have something special for you.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58First place in the greatest goat show ever.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00- Thank you, Ferne.- No problem.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Thank you so much for having me over.

0:12:31 > 0:12:32on some serious cuddle time with Hector.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34I can see that and he's loving it.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35Pets are great but remember,

0:12:35 > 0:12:39you shouldn't touch an animal unless the owner says it's OK first.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Two pets you definitely can play with, though, are ours.

0:12:41 > 0:12:44Go to the CBeebies website and play the My Pet And Me game.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46What a fantastic time we've had.
