0:01:17 > 0:01:20- Hey, guys.- Hi, Rory.- Hi. - Hi, Mum.- Hi, Rory.

0:01:21 > 0:01:26- Aw, so you must be Bonita and Fred. BOTH:- Yeah.- And who's this?

0:01:26 > 0:01:30- Coco and Squeaky.- Coco and Squeaky? Where's Squeaky?

0:01:30 > 0:01:32- He's in there. - Is this one Squeaky?- Yeah.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35And this is Coco here having a nice snack.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38These are wonderful guinea pigs. Boys or girls?

0:01:38 > 0:01:39- BOTH:- Both girls.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41- How old are these guys? - One and a half.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45- Have you had them since they were babies? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:01:45 > 0:01:46They're very sweet indeed.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50I'm wondering what you guys love about them the most.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54- Well, what I like about them most is when they kiss you.- Oh-ho!

0:01:54 > 0:01:58- Do you get a big kiss?- Yeah. - And what about you, Fred?

0:01:58 > 0:01:59I like playing with Coco.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03We should get them out and have a little cuddle.

0:02:03 > 0:02:04- BOTH:- Yeah!- OK.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06You guys hold that up.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Right, here you go.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Hello.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Right, come on, Squeaky.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21There we go.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Oh, she's lovely.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26- Do you guys know where guinea pigs come from?- Peru.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30Yes, Peru, and South America. That's a long way away from here.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34- BOTH:- Yeah.- They don't really look anything like pigs, though.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38- BOTH:- No.- Cos they're not, they're rodents like mice or hamsters.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Very cute, though. What's that you've got there?

0:02:41 > 0:02:46- It's a Peruvian waistcoat for the guineas.- Wow. Very fancy.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52RORY LAUGHS

0:02:52 > 0:02:54She looks so cute. Look at that!

0:02:54 > 0:02:57I'm glad to see you've got TWO guinea pigs.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Why is that important?

0:02:59 > 0:03:02If you only get one guinea pig, it'll be lonely.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03That's absolutely right.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07Guinea pigs like to live in groups, so it's important to keep

0:03:07 > 0:03:10at least two, but make sure you have all boys or all girls,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14otherwise, you'll have baby guinea pigs running around.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18- I've heard one of you can do a good impression of a guinea pig.- It's me.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20SHE SQUEAKS

0:03:20 > 0:03:22He-he-he! That's a great impression.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Guinea pigs make all sorts of sounds, and it can mean

0:03:25 > 0:03:27they're happy, they're sad,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30they're scared or even excited. They're so cute.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32Ferne, can you give us

0:03:32 > 0:03:36some more facts about our furry friends, just like these guys?

0:03:36 > 0:03:42Of course, Rory. One - guinea pigs can have different types of coats.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Some are wiry, some are long-haired,

0:03:44 > 0:03:47and the most common is short and smooth.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52Two - they tend to be very active during the day,

0:03:52 > 0:03:54but less so at night.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Three - guinea pigs' teeth are always growing,

0:03:58 > 0:04:00so it's important for them to

0:04:00 > 0:04:05constantly gnaw on things to help wear their teeth down.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14It's a good idea to give your guinea pigs a safe space

0:04:14 > 0:04:16to run around both outside and inside.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19While your mum is looking after Coco and Squeaky,

0:04:19 > 0:04:21can you guys tell me a bit

0:04:21 > 0:04:24about this amazing indoor hutch you've got?

0:04:24 > 0:04:28So we've got a water bottle there what they like drinking out of.

0:04:28 > 0:04:30Lovely. What else is in there, Fred?

0:04:30 > 0:04:34Nuzzling in their boxes, one we made and one they can nibble on.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36A house you can eat? Can you imagine that!

0:04:36 > 0:04:40- Yeah, we asked them.- Now, how often do you clean out the hutch?

0:04:40 > 0:04:42Once a week.

0:04:42 > 0:04:47- I'm here to help you today. Shall we do that now? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50It's important to wear gloves when you're cleaning up

0:04:50 > 0:04:54after your pets so you don't spread any germs.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57- Mind out, Rory. - Let's get the kennels out first.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03Good work.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07Here's the bag. I'll put that between you guys.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10First, we get all of the old hay and sawdust

0:05:10 > 0:05:12out of the cage, into the bin bag.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Then we take all of the old newspapers out.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Good work. That's the last little bit.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32- How many sheets should we put down, guys? BOTH:- All of them.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34OK.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42Then we put in lots of fresh sawdust.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46That'll be all right. And hay.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50- Just get it, like, up to the top. - All the way up to there? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:05:50 > 0:05:54So that it's easy for them to burrow in and they get more sweets.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57Perfect. They've got a nice place to hide.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00OK, let's put the kennels back. Put that one in.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Fred, where's the other kennel?

0:06:02 > 0:06:03Put it there.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07This is all looking lovely, but there's something we've forgotten.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09We need fresh nuggets.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12Of course. What other food do you give the guinea pigs?

0:06:12 > 0:06:15- I picked some dandelions in our school.- Excellent.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17- From your school?- Yeah.- Very nice.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21- Shall we sort out the food now, then?- Yeah.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Thank you. I'll pop these in.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27Here. We've got some dandelion leaves.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30- We scatter them all around the hutch.- Great.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33Bonita, what are you doing with that dried food?

0:06:33 > 0:06:35I'm just making little holes,

0:06:35 > 0:06:38then I can cover them up and then they can't see them,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42so they sniff around a little while and then they can find them.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45- Shall I do some over here, then?- Yeah.- OK.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48That's a nice, varied diet you've got for those guys.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51- How does this look?- Great.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54And then we have to get some fresh water.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00- Now we need to put the lid back on as well, don't we? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:07:00 > 0:07:05Mum, please can you come and get the guinea pigs in?!

0:07:05 > 0:07:09- Do you think they're going to like it? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Let's see, little rodents.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Look, there they go.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17Oh. Oh, here we go, it's Coco.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Yay! Coco's in!

0:07:21 > 0:07:27- Here comes Squeaky. Oh, there we go! Squeaky is in too. BOTH:- Yay.

0:07:28 > 0:07:32- Do you think they're happy with our work? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33How can you tell?

0:07:33 > 0:07:35Cos they're munching the dandelions,

0:07:35 > 0:07:39- having a sniff and enjoying themselves.- I think so.

0:07:46 > 0:07:47GUINEA PIGS SQUEAK

0:07:49 > 0:07:51I'm tired after all that hard work.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55- I hope these guys appreciate it, don't you? BOTH:- Yeah.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59- They look very relaxed here. Do you think they'll have a nap?- Maybe.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03- Yeah, maybe.- OK. If your guinea pigs fell asleep right now,

0:08:03 > 0:08:07and dreamt they could do anything, what do you think they'd do?

0:08:09 > 0:08:12If our pets could do anything,

0:08:12 > 0:08:16they would climb to the top of a high mountain

0:08:16 > 0:08:18and jump onto the clouds.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Once they'd finished bouncing on the clouds,

0:08:21 > 0:08:25they'll sit down and have a rest

0:08:25 > 0:08:28and watch all the birds flying in the sky.

0:08:35 > 0:08:39Aw, your gorgeous guineas have a pretty brilliant life, don't they?

0:08:39 > 0:08:42- BOTH:- Yeah.- And you've got two, so do you have one each?

0:08:42 > 0:08:44- BOTH:- Kind of.

0:08:44 > 0:08:45Whose is whose?

0:08:45 > 0:08:48I usually play with Coco...

0:08:48 > 0:08:50And I usually play with Squeak.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53You're holding them now, which is good.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55What games do you like to play with them?

0:08:58 > 0:09:02I play obstacle course with recycled boxes.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05That sounds like great fun and gives me an idea.
