0:00:18 > 0:00:19new friends...

0:00:21 > 0:00:23..and new teachers.
0:00:23 > 0:00:25You are a Greenwood boy.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27It's been an exciting world to discover.
0:00:27 > 0:00:28Wow.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30Sometimes lots of fun
0:00:30 > 0:00:35and, sometimes, a bit tough, with different challenges for everybody.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38We're in year 7. We're acting like three year olds.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41We rigged our school with loads of cameras...
0:00:41 > 0:00:44Is this what you see when you look through a camera?
0:00:44 > 0:00:45Cos this is awesome.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48..so you could find out exactly what happened.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51You're on report, by my request.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54I'm Trev.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58I used to go to school here, but now, I'm one of the teachers.
0:00:58 > 0:01:02Last question, cos you're going to run out of time.
0:01:02 > 0:01:06- Welcome to the finale of Our School. - I need a wee!
0:01:10 > 0:01:14The arrival of summer means the first year of secondary school
0:01:14 > 0:01:18is almost over and so much has happened during the past ten months.
0:01:22 > 0:01:27Today on Our School, we're going to look back at the highs and lows...
0:01:27 > 0:01:29Instant detention.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32..of year 7.
0:01:32 > 0:01:38But first, no end of year would be complete without a talent show.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42The acts have been rehearsing for the past eight weeks and now,
0:01:42 > 0:01:44it's a chance for the confident...
0:01:44 > 0:01:46# ..feels nothing...#
0:01:46 > 0:01:47..and the not-so confident...
0:01:47 > 0:01:50Where do I have to hold this?
0:01:50 > 0:01:52..to show us what they've got.
0:01:55 > 0:01:59Whoo! Welcome to the Year 7 talent show!
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Our judges, who you might have noticed, Miss Grover.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Give her a round of applause.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07Mr French.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09And Miss Richardson.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12They've all got a really difficult job this afternoon.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14They've got a tough decision to make.
0:02:14 > 0:02:18Waiting backstage with the huge responsibility of opening
0:02:18 > 0:02:20the show is Taylor-Jay.
0:02:20 > 0:02:23I'm feeling nervous, but excited.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26Taylor's no newcomer to the spotlight.
0:02:26 > 0:02:30Outside school, she's a keen member of her local drama group.
0:02:30 > 0:02:34I do singing, dancing and acting.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37# You never brought me flowers...#
0:02:37 > 0:02:40With so much experience behind her, Taylor-Jay is one of the
0:02:40 > 0:02:42favourites to win the talent show.
0:02:42 > 0:02:48I enjoy it when I'm on stage. I'm just me. I just let out my voice.
0:02:48 > 0:02:52But even for someone so full of confidence, this performance, in
0:02:52 > 0:02:57front of all her friends, has given Taylor-Jay some last minute wobbles.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00Let's welcome our first act this afternoon.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02Oh, I'm so scared!
0:03:02 > 0:03:07I was nervous, my heart was pounding. I couldn't breathe.
0:03:07 > 0:03:09This is Taylor-Jay!
0:03:18 > 0:03:25# You turn and I learn that the walls come falling down.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28# Not a word, only heard what my friends could tell me now...#
0:03:28 > 0:03:31Taylor-Jay was just amazing.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33She just kicked off the whole performance
0:03:33 > 0:03:35and I think she was just great.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38# ..but all these scars I can't replace... #
0:03:38 > 0:03:40She's a confident singer.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42She doesn't care what anyone thinks about her.
0:03:42 > 0:03:44She just gets on the stage and tries to enjoy it.
0:03:44 > 0:03:51# ..nothing at all No, no, oh. #
0:03:54 > 0:03:56Let's hear it for Taylor, everybody!
0:03:56 > 0:04:01What a fantastic start to the show. That was absolutely tremendous.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04I hope I win, but when it got to the high note,
0:04:04 > 0:04:06I went a little bit off.
0:04:06 > 0:04:08I don't think anyone noticed, Taylor-Jay.
0:04:08 > 0:04:12That's a tough first act to follow.
0:04:12 > 0:04:16Next into the spotlight is Sam, who first set her sights
0:04:16 > 0:04:18on singing in a girl band.
0:04:18 > 0:04:21I'm freaking out.
0:04:21 > 0:04:25But in rehearsals, I discovered singing wasn't her only talent.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27Is that a made-up dance?
0:04:27 > 0:04:32- Yeah, pretty much.- Whoa! Just dropped 10p.
0:04:32 > 0:04:34- Shouldn't I be throwing money at you?- Me!
0:04:34 > 0:04:38So, Sam decided to sack the singing and throw everything into her
0:04:38 > 0:04:40dance routine.
0:04:48 > 0:04:51# I stay out too late
0:04:51 > 0:04:54# Got nothing in my brain
0:04:54 > 0:04:56# That's what people say Mm-mm
0:04:56 > 0:04:58# That's what people say...#
0:04:58 > 0:05:01Sam's performance was really fun.
0:05:01 > 0:05:04It made everyone laugh and happy and cheerful.
0:05:04 > 0:05:08# ..at least that's what people say...#
0:05:08 > 0:05:10It was whacky, mad, but it was good.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13# ..I go on too many dates...#
0:05:13 > 0:05:18When I first went on stage, I was like, "Yeah, yeah, I can do this."
0:05:18 > 0:05:22But then, I realised everyone was staring at me. That's why I ran off.
0:05:22 > 0:05:27# ..at least that's what people say Mm-mm
0:05:27 > 0:05:29# That's what people say Mm-mm...#
0:05:29 > 0:05:31Guys, give Sam a big round of applause!
0:05:31 > 0:05:33CHEERING
0:05:33 > 0:05:35Sam's been fantastic up till now.
0:05:35 > 0:05:39I ran off stage, because too many people were staring at me.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43She's pulling herself together backstage. She's all right.
0:05:43 > 0:05:45Don't worry, Sam. Just take your time.
0:05:45 > 0:05:51# And it feel like I am just too close to love you...#
0:05:53 > 0:05:56Meanwhile, it's up to Spencer to keep the show on the road.
0:05:56 > 0:05:58# ..and there's nothing I can really say...#
0:05:58 > 0:06:02He's won two talent shows at primary school and the crowd
0:06:02 > 0:06:03are loving his performance.
0:06:03 > 0:06:06When Spencer got up there, loads of girls were like,
0:06:06 > 0:06:08"Ooh, I went out with him!"
0:06:08 > 0:06:11Like, every single one of the girls, I think it was.
0:06:11 > 0:06:12# ..So I'll be on my way.#
0:06:12 > 0:06:14Let's hear it for Spencer!
0:06:14 > 0:06:18- Well done, mate.- Spencer, you've got such an amazing fan club here.
0:06:18 > 0:06:20CHEERING
0:06:20 > 0:06:22There were about 50 people filming that,
0:06:22 > 0:06:25so I think you're going to be an overnight sensation on you tube.
0:06:25 > 0:06:27Well done, Spencer, it was excellent. Well done.
0:06:27 > 0:06:28Miss Richardson?
0:06:28 > 0:06:31Waiting nervously, Sam is trying to pluck up enough courage to go
0:06:31 > 0:06:34back onstage to try again.
0:06:34 > 0:06:37Nerves got the better of her, but I know you guys in Year 7 are going to
0:06:37 > 0:06:41really, really blow the roof off now to welcome back onto stage,
0:06:41 > 0:06:43Samantha!
0:06:43 > 0:06:45CHEERING
0:06:45 > 0:06:46Come on, Sam!
0:06:46 > 0:06:49She might have been a bit shaken, making a swift exit first
0:06:49 > 0:06:53time round, but can Sam now perform her full dance routine?
0:06:53 > 0:06:56# I stay out too late
0:06:56 > 0:06:59# Got nothing in my brain
0:06:59 > 0:07:02# That's what people say Mm-mm
0:07:02 > 0:07:04# That's what people say Mm-mm...#
0:07:04 > 0:07:08- She came back on. And she started doing the same thing.- Whoo!
0:07:08 > 0:07:11# ..but I can't make you stay
0:07:11 > 0:07:13# At least that's what people say...#
0:07:13 > 0:07:15She came back on and started dancing.
0:07:15 > 0:07:18Which is even more, like, brave of her.
0:07:18 > 0:07:20Well done, Sam.
0:07:20 > 0:07:24Looks like you did shake off those nerves, after all,
0:07:24 > 0:07:26and the crowd loved it.
0:07:26 > 0:07:30Come over, Sam. Miss Richardson, how brave is Sam coming back out?
0:07:30 > 0:07:33I am just so impressed and so happy that you came back out.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36You epitomise everything that we look for in young people.
0:07:36 > 0:07:38You know, sometimes things don't go entirely to plan,
0:07:38 > 0:07:42but you overcame that challenge and you did just an amazing job.
0:07:42 > 0:07:43Well done.
0:07:43 > 0:07:45Let's hear it one more time, everybody, for Sam!
0:07:45 > 0:07:46CHEERING
0:07:46 > 0:07:49I felt really proud, because I got back on stage.
0:07:49 > 0:07:51She did get slightly nervous,
0:07:51 > 0:07:54but for her to come back onstage just made me very proud.
0:07:54 > 0:07:57I'm glad she never gave up. Brilliant performance.
0:07:59 > 0:08:03Up next, Ameera waits anxiously in the wings.
0:08:03 > 0:08:07I'm shaking. I really don't know if I can do it.
0:08:09 > 0:08:11OK, next up, we have Ameera!
0:08:14 > 0:08:16It's no surprise she's nervous.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18SHE SPEAKS OWN LANGUAGE
0:08:18 > 0:08:20Ameera's more comfortable studying hard at home
0:08:20 > 0:08:23than standing on a stage.
0:08:23 > 0:08:27When she was dragged along to a band rehearsal, I was surprised
0:08:27 > 0:08:31to see she had real potential, so convinced her to sing solo.
0:08:31 > 0:08:34You've got a really nice tone to your voice, really strong.
0:08:34 > 0:08:37But when it was time to rehearse in front an audience,
0:08:37 > 0:08:40nerves got the better of her.
0:08:40 > 0:08:43- Ameera?- No, not yet.
0:08:43 > 0:08:47- Why've you got scared?- I can't sing in front of these people.- Why?
0:08:47 > 0:08:49Because, look how many there are.
0:08:49 > 0:08:51It's now or never, Ameera.
0:08:51 > 0:08:55Time to see if you've worked out how to control those nerves.
0:08:55 > 0:08:59Come on, Ameera. You'll be fine.
0:08:59 > 0:09:01Ameera! Ameera! Ameera!
0:09:01 > 0:09:04- ALL:- Ameera! Ameera! Ameera!
0:09:06 > 0:09:11# No, I can't take one more step towards you
0:09:11 > 0:09:14# Cos all that's waiting is regret
0:09:19 > 0:09:25# And don't you know I'm not your ghost any more
0:09:25 > 0:09:29# You lost the love I loved the most...#
0:09:29 > 0:09:32I was surprised when Ameera sang, because she's not one of them
0:09:32 > 0:09:34chatty people.
0:09:34 > 0:09:38- She's more of the ones that like... - Quiet.- Yeah, very quiet.
0:09:38 > 0:09:41And shy. But it takes a lot to get up on a stage and perform in
0:09:41 > 0:09:44front of so many people, which she done.
0:09:44 > 0:09:48# ..half alive
0:09:48 > 0:09:55# And now you want me one more time.#
0:09:55 > 0:09:58Let's hear it for Ameera!
0:09:58 > 0:09:59CHEERING
0:09:59 > 0:10:01That's a loud cheer.
0:10:01 > 0:10:05I'm absolutely blown away. That was an absolutely stunning voice.
0:10:05 > 0:10:09Well, Ameera, I think you're a real contender for this competition.
0:10:09 > 0:10:11I think everyone would agree.
0:10:11 > 0:10:13You've given us a really difficult decision to make here.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15I thought you were amazing. Well done.
0:10:15 > 0:10:19Brilliant. Let's hear it for Ameera one more time. Thank you very much.
0:10:19 > 0:10:22I felt really happy, as soon as I'd finished,
0:10:22 > 0:10:24cos at the start of year 7, I wouldn't have thought that
0:10:24 > 0:10:28I'd ever be able to sing in front of the whole of my year group.
0:10:28 > 0:10:31Next up, it is the Elite Cheerleaders!
0:10:31 > 0:10:34CHEERING
0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Come on, guys.- I can't go.- No. - Shall I walk on first? Come on.
0:10:38 > 0:10:40Good luck, everyone. Good luck.
0:10:40 > 0:10:44The cheerleaders have devoted months perfecting what they hope
0:10:44 > 0:10:47will be a show-stopping routine.
0:10:47 > 0:10:51But as they take to the stage, one vital person is missing.
0:10:54 > 0:10:58Well, I've twisted my ankle, while I was playing dodge ball in PE.
0:11:00 > 0:11:04Just hours earlier, crucial team member Taimar had been forced
0:11:04 > 0:11:06to pull out.
0:11:06 > 0:11:09Everyone that's in cheerleading, they're all moaning
0:11:09 > 0:11:11and that, cos, like, I'm the only
0:11:11 > 0:11:14one that really knows how to hold Kiara up.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16I'm the tallest and the only one that can actually
0:11:16 > 0:11:18hold away properly.
0:11:18 > 0:11:23And we're just thinking, "Oh! Trust it to happen to us."
0:11:23 > 0:11:25It's a devastating blow.
0:11:25 > 0:11:29With key lifter Taimar unable to take part, will the remaining
0:11:29 > 0:11:33cheerleaders be able to pull off their finely rehearsed routine?
0:11:34 > 0:11:38When it came to our lift, I was feeling a bit nervous.
0:11:38 > 0:11:40I thought I was going to fall and hurt myself.
0:11:46 > 0:11:49CHEERING
0:11:49 > 0:11:52Phew! That's one lift out of the way.
0:11:59 > 0:12:02So far, all appears to be going well.
0:12:04 > 0:12:09But, can the girls hold it together for the closing lift?
0:12:13 > 0:12:16The cheerleaders have finished on a high.
0:12:16 > 0:12:19Let's hear it for Elite Cheerleaders!
0:12:19 > 0:12:23Stay here, girls! Mr French, what did you think of that?
0:12:23 > 0:12:25When you've got so many people onstage and quite a confined
0:12:25 > 0:12:28space, it's really hard to coordinate all of your activities
0:12:28 > 0:12:32and everything you're trying to do, but I thought you were really good.
0:12:32 > 0:12:35Excellent. Let's hear it one more time for the cheerleaders!
0:12:35 > 0:12:36CHEERING
0:12:36 > 0:12:39With everyone loving the acts so far, it's time for the last
0:12:39 > 0:12:41performance of the show.
0:12:41 > 0:12:43I'm feeling so scared.
0:12:43 > 0:12:46This girl's had some nerves, but is coming out to sing
0:12:46 > 0:12:49for us all and I know you're in for a real treat.
0:12:49 > 0:12:54Finally, it's Shannon's turn and she has a very personal reason
0:12:54 > 0:12:57for wanting to be onstage.
0:12:57 > 0:12:59It's quite a depressing song,
0:12:59 > 0:13:03but I'm dedicating it to my passed-away brother.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06That's why it means so much to me.
0:13:06 > 0:13:09Just before starting year 7,
0:13:09 > 0:13:13Shannon's disabled brother, who she helped to care for, sadly died.
0:13:13 > 0:13:15Whenever he was upset, I used to sing to him and he used to
0:13:15 > 0:13:17calm down. It was, literally, just like
0:13:17 > 0:13:21a magic spell I'd cast over him. I'd sing to him and he'd fall asleep.
0:13:21 > 0:13:24Losing her brother made starting at Greenwood difficult
0:13:24 > 0:13:27and she struggled with her lack of confidence.
0:13:27 > 0:13:31So, going out and singing in front of a big crowd will be
0:13:31 > 0:13:33a massive challenge.
0:13:33 > 0:13:35I'm pretty scared, because I don't
0:13:35 > 0:13:37usually do this sort of thing.
0:13:37 > 0:13:41I'm a really shy person.
0:13:41 > 0:13:46I can't deal with the fact that I might mess up.
0:13:47 > 0:13:50I'm really scared that if I mess up,
0:13:50 > 0:13:53everyone's going to make fun of me.
0:13:53 > 0:13:56I'm just really scared about getting on the stage.
0:13:56 > 0:13:57This is Shannon!
0:13:57 > 0:14:00CHEERING
0:14:03 > 0:14:06- Go on, Shannon!- Go on, Shannon!
0:14:06 > 0:14:11I was shaking on the stage and I was so scared.
0:14:11 > 0:14:14I could feel my heart beating, I could hear it.
0:14:21 > 0:14:27# If I die young, bury me in satin
0:14:27 > 0:14:30# Lay me down on a bed of roses
0:14:30 > 0:14:33# Sink me in a river at dawn
0:14:33 > 0:14:39# Send me away with the words of a love song
0:14:39 > 0:14:44# Uh-oh, uh-oh
0:14:44 > 0:14:48# Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
0:14:48 > 0:14:52# She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colours
0:14:52 > 0:14:57# Oh, and life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
0:14:57 > 0:14:59# Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby
0:14:59 > 0:15:02# The sharp knife of a short life...#
0:15:02 > 0:15:04I've never heard Shannon sing
0:15:04 > 0:15:07and when I heard her sing I was like, "Whoa!"
0:15:07 > 0:15:10# I've had just enough time...#
0:15:10 > 0:15:13It was like a very big shock to people, cos nobody knew
