0:02:23 > 0:02:26so I think that's... I'm really thankful for that.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43I hear you let yourself down again today.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46But show director Karen never lost faith in Johnny...

0:02:46 > 0:02:49- You think you're going to be able to do it?- ..and handed him his lead role

0:02:49 > 0:02:53and the perfect opportunity to stand out for the right reasons.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57I really want to show everyone that I'm not just the bad kid at school.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00With his big moment just hours away,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Johnny gets his first proper look at the stage he'll be performing on.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Now I'm here, I can't wait to get on.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13I hope that I remember everything,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16everyone does what they have to do, and if that goes good,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and that's what happens, I think it will be a pretty fun show.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Karen, the show's director,

0:03:24 > 0:03:28is keen to give Johnny some final notes to take into his performance.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31So you have to show me a mischievous little boy,

0:03:31 > 0:03:36who is going to use his imagination to create the show, all right?

0:03:36 > 0:03:39- Yeah.- Are you going to be OK with that?- Yep. Try my best.

0:03:39 > 0:03:44- It's going to be fabulous. Just be you. It will be perfect.- OK.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46I want to show Karen that I can do it.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49She put a lot of faith into me so, tonight, I'm going to do my best.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53# You show the light that stop me turn to stone... #

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Johnny will be opening the show tonight,

0:03:55 > 0:03:59along with superstar dancer Ella, who is playing Cat in the Hat.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01- Give me a handshake.- Let's do this!

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Ella is well-known for her dancing talent

0:04:05 > 0:04:09but tonight sees her taking on her first-ever singing role

0:04:09 > 0:04:10and it's a big challenge.

0:04:10 > 0:04:15I'm nervous about getting the lyrics right and the vocals right,

0:04:15 > 0:04:19like, tune-wise and everything, but I just need to make sure

0:04:19 > 0:04:23that I am focused and I am chilled out, and I'm calm.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Out on stage, year 11 Steph is running through her dance routine

0:04:28 > 0:04:30for professional choreographer Pat Dee.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Four, five and six. Just let it flow.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36In rehearsals, Steph has been pushed to the limit...

0:04:36 > 0:04:37It's taking all my energy.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41..and, tonight, Pat is expecting a lot from her lead dancer.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44This number is a big role for her, yeah. She's the lead in it.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47She has quite a lot of work to do, yeah.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49I'm so happy I've been selected for the solo

0:04:49 > 0:04:51and I just want to prove that I was worthy.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56But, as the rehearsal continues,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59there's one move Steph just can't get right.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03Too far around. So just do that once more.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05Get them shimmies in, round and round...

0:05:05 > 0:05:07- Just a little bit iffy there, still, innit?- Yeah.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09The biggest challenge is a lift with me and Kaymon

0:05:09 > 0:05:10where I drop into his arms.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Because he's moving at the same time as me spinning,

0:05:13 > 0:05:15I have to make sure our timing's perfect.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18And if it's not, then we miss the beat and it looks off,

0:05:18 > 0:05:19and the next section's off.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21Can you do that again?

0:05:21 > 0:05:23And a one, two, three, four, five,

0:05:23 > 0:05:25six and seven, and eight and one.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Still a little bit too far over. Just lift her up, yeah.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32Practice time on stage is up and Pat still isn't happy.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36It needs to come up another level, doesn't it, for that performance.

0:05:36 > 0:05:38But don't overdo it.

0:05:38 > 0:05:40The tech run for Pats could have gone better,

0:05:40 > 0:05:42but I've got to get that sorted for the show,

0:05:42 > 0:05:44so we've just got to get the style right,

0:05:44 > 0:05:46and I think it's just personal errors that I made

0:05:46 > 0:05:48that I need to sort out myself.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51As if the pressure of performing wasn't bad enough,

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Steph knows that tonight is her last performance for the school

0:05:54 > 0:05:58as she's leaving to join a different stage school next year.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00This is definitely my last day

0:06:00 > 0:06:02and the last day of me going to the school

0:06:02 > 0:06:05and being with the people that I've practically grown up with,

0:06:05 > 0:06:07so I just hope I don't cry.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11But will Steph be able to hold it together and go out with a bang?

0:06:11 > 0:06:14# Cos it's all about tonight

0:06:14 > 0:06:18# Yeah, the night is alive You can feel the heartbeat

0:06:18 > 0:06:20# Let's just go with the flow... #

0:06:20 > 0:06:22Showtime is just a few hours away

0:06:22 > 0:06:26and the final few costumes are just arriving.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29The show is fairytale theme,

0:06:29 > 0:06:32which means some pretty fantastic outfits.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38One pupil who can't wait to get into costume is Monifa.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Like, you better get back cos I'm coming your way.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43Monifa is not only one of the best singers in year nine...

0:06:43 > 0:06:46# You're the perfect man for me... #

0:06:46 > 0:06:48..she's also one of the shiest.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51It's nerve-racking getting up in front of the class.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54You don't want to go wrong in case they think you're a bad singer.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57This term she overcame her nerves and bagged a distinction

0:06:57 > 0:07:02- in her singing exam. - Monifa, where is Monifa?

0:07:02 > 0:07:04Well done. Tremendous job!

0:07:04 > 0:07:08And now she's landed a major role in the end-of-year show.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11# Maybe I'm nasty, maybe I'm cruel But you're the biggest blame fool

0:07:11 > 0:07:13# In the Jungle of Nool. #

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Monifa is playing a diva kangaroo along with Bessy,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19and together, they have to be the loudest

0:07:19 > 0:07:21and most feisty performers on stage.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24# Too... #

0:07:24 > 0:07:27It's a big test for Monifa's confidence but the young singer

0:07:27 > 0:07:30is hoping getting into costume will help her get into character.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33We are going to try and look through wardrobe

0:07:33 > 0:07:36so we can see what our kangaroo costume's like.

0:07:36 > 0:07:38But there is one problem.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41- What are you looking for, ladies, your costumes?- Yes.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44The only person who seems to really know about it is Miss Wilkin.

0:07:44 > 0:07:49- Like all-in-one. - All-in-one kangaroo costume?

0:07:49 > 0:07:52- What colour's a kangaroo?- Brown.

0:07:52 > 0:07:53No-one knows where they are,

0:07:53 > 0:07:56and literally everyone's got their costume except us.

0:07:56 > 0:08:00It's hard to find your confidence when you can't find your costume

0:08:00 > 0:08:02and, right now, Monifa's feeling it.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04- Why are you stressing? - I went to both wardrobes

0:08:04 > 0:08:06and they've both not heard anything.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08That's actually really bad.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11I haven't even tried it on. What if it falls of?

0:08:11 > 0:08:13Yeah, what if it doesn't fit you?

0:08:13 > 0:08:16It's really annoying, so hopefully, it's here by the end of the day.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23Another pupil with wardrobe worries is Tyler.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26He's just received his costume

0:08:26 > 0:08:29but he's not exactly over the moon with it.

0:08:29 > 0:08:30Are you being serious?

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Tyler is playing Shrek

0:08:32 > 0:08:34in the school's version of Shrek the musical.

0:08:34 > 0:08:38# Keep your big, bright Beautiful world... #

0:08:38 > 0:08:40Reece is playing his sidekick Donkey.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42# Don't let me go... #

0:08:42 > 0:08:45And, together, they'll be closing tonight's show

0:08:45 > 0:08:47with some huge vocal numbers.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50Tyler's Shrek is not going to be green like in the films

0:08:50 > 0:08:52but right now, the colour of his costume

0:08:52 > 0:08:54is the least of Tyler's worries.

0:08:54 > 0:08:55HE LAUGHS

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Are you... Are you s...

0:08:57 > 0:09:00I can't wear this. Are you joking? Are you being completely serious?

0:09:00 > 0:09:02You look like you've got a fat suit on!

0:09:02 > 0:09:05I think you should stuff it with pillows or something.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09That looks... That doesn't look that bad.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11It looks better with the shirt on.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15If the costume's not right, then all you're doing is...

0:09:16 > 0:09:18It's just wearing clothes.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Feeling miffed, Tyler heads to wardrobe to complain.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23The problem is...

0:09:23 > 0:09:24I'm really skinny.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Yeah, that is quite ridiculous.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29To make matters worse for Tyler,

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Reece's Donkey costume is going down a storm.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Wow!

0:09:35 > 0:09:38- It's all about bending. That is so good.- That is so good.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40SHE LAUGHS

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Reece's costume was made by his mum

0:09:42 > 0:09:45and Tyler doesn't look too happy about how good it looks.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47- Your mum done that, yeah?- Yeah.- Wow.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51I've just seen Reece's outfit which is actually amazing.

0:09:51 > 0:09:56Look at your costume and then look at mine, and tell me if I'm cool.

0:09:56 > 0:09:57Don't, don't worry.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Awww! I think he's upset.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05It's not looking too good for Tyler or Monifa right now.

0:10:05 > 0:10:09Will they get the costumes they want in time?

0:10:09 > 0:10:13Out on stage, the crew are getting set for the dress rehearsal,

0:10:16 > 0:10:18a final run-through of the whole show

0:10:18 > 0:10:21where Karen gets to see everything performed full-out.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23It's stressful for all of the performers,

0:10:23 > 0:10:25but particularly Georgia,

0:10:25 > 0:10:29whose position in the show is not yet 100% secure.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31# So it's time to... #

0:10:31 > 0:10:35Georgia is due to be playing the role of Shrek's mum,

0:10:35 > 0:10:38but in a recent rehearsal, she fell apart...

0:10:38 > 0:10:40You've lost it totally today. What's happened?

0:10:40 > 0:10:45- ..and almost lost her role to Steph. - # Listen, son, you're growing... #

0:10:45 > 0:10:48Georgia knows Karen will be watching her closely

0:10:48 > 0:10:50in today's dress rehearsal.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52I am concerned about Georgia at the moment.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54I know she is capable of doing it,

0:10:54 > 0:10:57but if nerves get the better of her, that's when it becomes a problem.

0:10:57 > 0:11:02Obviously, I'm going to have to just show Karen I can do it,

0:11:02 > 0:11:04and I do know what I'm doing.

0:11:04 > 0:11:09If Georgia does slip up, Karen is ready to take drastic action.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11If it doesn't work for her today,

0:11:11 > 0:11:14- I would prefer to replace her with Stephanie.- Possible replacement Steph

0:11:14 > 0:11:17is backing Georgia to hang on to the role.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20I just hope she doesn't feel nervous today.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26The Shrek mum number is just seconds away.

0:11:28 > 0:11:33So can Georgia control her nerves or will Karen kick her out of the cast,

0:11:33 > 0:11:35just hours before showtime?

0:11:35 > 0:11:40# Listen, son You're growing up so quickly... #

0:11:40 > 0:11:41It's not a great start.

0:11:41 > 0:11:45Her voice is shaking and she's not holding the notes.

0:11:45 > 0:11:50# Bigger by the day

0:11:50 > 0:11:52# Although we want you here

0:11:52 > 0:11:55# The rules are very clear... #

0:11:55 > 0:11:56But, as the song continues,

0:11:56 > 0:12:00she starts to let go and really gets into character.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03# So it's time to go away

0:12:03 > 0:12:06# It's a big, bright Beautiful world

0:12:06 > 0:12:11# With possibilities everywhere

0:12:11 > 0:12:14# And just around the bend

0:12:14 > 0:12:17#There is a friend or two

0:12:17 > 0:12:19# But not for you... #

0:12:19 > 0:12:22Georgia has given it her best shot.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Now she'll have to wait till the end of dress

0:12:25 > 0:12:27to see if she still has her part.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32Last to show Karen their routine in full is Mimi and Jade.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34They're playing bird girls

0:12:34 > 0:12:37in a difficult routine called Amazing Maisie.

0:12:37 > 0:12:42# I was once a plain little bird like you, kid... #

0:12:42 > 0:12:45We've worked really hard, like, getting everything perfect,

0:12:45 > 0:12:48the acting, the singing and, like, all the positions and stuff.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50# Oh, my word, this is wonderful!

0:12:50 > 0:12:53# Second, third Wow, I'm colourful!

0:12:53 > 0:12:54# What a bird... #

0:12:54 > 0:12:56We've worked so hard on it, I think.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59It's been such an emotional roller coaster.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01# Amayzing Gertrude

0:13:01 > 0:13:04# Just look at the tail she is sporting... #

0:13:04 > 0:13:06It's also a big number for the backing dancers

0:13:06 > 0:13:09like 14-year-old Molly-Jo.

0:13:09 > 0:13:10Tonight I'm going to get it bang on.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13I practised like mad with the girls. We're going to get it.

0:13:25 > 0:13:27and Karen wants to speak to the whole cast.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31Can you tell everyone they need to be up here now?

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Come on, guys, don't saunter. Run!

0:13:33 > 0:13:36And the feedback is not good.

0:13:36 > 0:13:40OK, I have one major note that I need to give first and foremost.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42Make your performance bigger.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45It should be larger than life,

0:13:45 > 0:13:47totally, totally over the top,

0:13:47 > 0:13:49owning the stage.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51Nobody did today.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Nobody did.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Absolutely appalling.

0:13:57 > 0:14:01Karen feels everyone's energy is too low and, in particular,

0:14:01 > 0:14:04she's singling out the bird girl routine.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07Shocking, bird girls. Absolutely shocking.

0:14:07 > 0:14:09Energy, energy, energy.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11Some of you were here today.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14That's how you were, some of you. Molly-Jo, you were one of them.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16That's how you walked across the stage.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18It's tough criticism to take.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21But what does this all mean for Georgia?

0:14:21 > 0:14:23Georgia, the only thing I'm going to say...

0:14:23 > 0:14:27Today was one of the best you've done it. Well done, Georgia.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29APPLAUSE

0:14:29 > 0:14:33And that now - we've got to build on that,

0:14:33 > 0:14:35because that was fabulous what you did today.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38It's a great result for Georgia.

0:14:38 > 0:14:42It was my last chance, so I'm just happy right now.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44Georgia may be happy, but down on stage,

0:14:44 > 0:14:48tough teacher Charleen has called her cast back together.

0:14:48 > 0:14:49OK, quick! Let's go one more time.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52She's spent months choreographing her Wicked Witch routine

0:14:52 > 0:14:54with lead dancer Mia.

0:14:54 > 0:14:59So, Mia, you have to hit here. Five, six, seven, and a one, two...

0:14:59 > 0:15:03Charleen wasn't happy with what she saw in the dress rehearsal

0:15:03 > 0:15:05and is using every last second to get it right.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07Make sure you're in line. Concentrate.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09No more messing around. Stop talking!

0:15:10 > 0:15:14Outside, the audience is starting to arrive.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17The crowd of casting agents and choreographers

0:15:17 > 0:15:19are looking for big talent.

0:15:19 > 0:15:24Every performer knows this is a huge opportunity to impress.

0:15:24 > 0:15:28The countdown to showtime is on.

0:15:28 > 0:15:32I'm scared and stressed and scared and...

0:15:32 > 0:15:37nervous, and excited, and every emotion under the sun.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39If you could just step into this for me.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41The costume isn't ready just yet.

0:15:41 > 0:15:45So what we can do is just literally unpick that, cut that off.

0:15:45 > 0:15:49But it's getting done as quickly as possible.

0:15:49 > 0:15:54I felt a bit bad before, when Karen was like, "You did a bit rubbish."

0:15:54 > 0:15:57Don't take it personally, but we'll all be fine. You'll be fine.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59Yeah, I guess.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01I'm feeling very scared.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04Have a fantastic show. Be safe, all right?

0:16:19 > 0:16:20So all the nerves are building in

0:16:20 > 0:16:23but when I hit that stage platform...

0:16:23 > 0:16:26Bam! All gone. So here we go. Here we go!
