0:02:01 > 0:02:03and I haven't worked in ages

0:02:03 > 0:02:05so I think it would be really good if I get this.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06I'm going to work my hardest.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Landing a part would be a huge deal for Reece.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11All the students need as much professional experience

0:02:11 > 0:02:13as they can get

0:02:13 > 0:02:15and, as ever, his mum is there to support him.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18I'm hoping that he'll get somewhere with this.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19I think it'll just boost his confidence.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24Today the director, Ray Shell, is looking to cast a whole family.

0:02:24 > 0:02:29But with 60 people competing for just 12 parts, competition is tough.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32This is wartime. If you want it, show it, give it to me, yeah?

0:02:32 > 0:02:35You've got to make the decision for me cos I can't decide.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40First, all the candidates have just minutes to learn new routines

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and show them to Ray.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44How people treat it and how they deal with it

0:02:44 > 0:02:47will tell us what their stamina level is.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Stamina is something you got to have,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51not only to take you through a show,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53but take you through the years of shows you do.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54Let me see your eyes!

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Ray is a West End legend

0:02:56 > 0:03:00so impressing him isn't going to be easy.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03I've done shows like Starlight Express, Miss Saigon,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Five Guys Named Moe, Jesus Christ Superstar...

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Let me stop you just one second. I just want to hear thoughts from you.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10'I was looking at his CV.'

0:03:10 > 0:03:11The list goes on and on and on.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13'It's a privilege to be in an audition with him.'

0:03:17 > 0:03:19For Reece, today's audition is particularly tough

0:03:19 > 0:03:23because it's the first time he's been up against much older

0:03:23 > 0:03:24and more experienced performers.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26It's obviously scary going up against the adults

0:03:26 > 0:03:30because they've had more experience and training than you,

0:03:30 > 0:03:33but you've got to try and stand out however you can.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36One person who knows just what he's going through

0:03:36 > 0:03:37is school friend Layton.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39He's got a part playing one of the brothers

0:03:39 > 0:03:42and is here to go through the dance routines.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45Auditions can be really scary but Reece is doing really well.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47He's like the youngest here as well

0:03:47 > 0:03:49so it must be quite nerve-wracking for him.

0:03:49 > 0:03:50He's going full out

0:03:50 > 0:03:53- and he's on the choreography with a bang.- It's going well so far

0:03:53 > 0:03:55but Reece is about to be thrown a surprise.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59Guys, listen up. The next thing is going to be a tap combination.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01So take five and we'll let you know when we're ready.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Ray wants to see his tap dancing skills

0:04:03 > 0:04:06but it seems Reece isn't prepared.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08I wasn't told there was going to be a tap section

0:04:08 > 0:04:12so I don't have any of my shoes so I'm quite gutted about that.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15- Were you told to bring your tap shoes?- No.- No. See...

0:04:15 > 0:04:18I brought my heels, my... I brought everything.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20All Reece can do is try and draw

0:04:20 > 0:04:22Ray's attention away from his footwear

0:04:22 > 0:04:24and onto his dancing skills

0:04:24 > 0:04:26by throwing in some moves before the others have even started.

0:04:28 > 0:04:29Five, six, seven, and...!

0:04:30 > 0:04:34Reece is hoping that his little trick has worked.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37'I think I definitely got noticed by the panel, because, obviously,'

0:04:37 > 0:04:40if everyone's standing still and only one person's moving,

0:04:40 > 0:04:42it draws attention to yourself,

0:04:42 > 0:04:45which is what I kind of wanted so I think he saw me.

0:04:45 > 0:04:46Reece seems confident now

0:04:46 > 0:04:49but if he's to make it through to the next stage of auditions,

0:04:49 > 0:04:51he'll need to show that he can sing too.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53The day is far from over.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59Throughout the summer term, Reece and the other students

0:04:59 > 0:05:02have been auditioning and rehearsing for the end-of-year show.

0:05:02 > 0:05:03These shows run for a week

0:05:03 > 0:05:06and each performance features a different cast

0:05:06 > 0:05:08so that everyone gets a chance to perform

0:05:08 > 0:05:11and be spotted by the casting agent in the audience.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13Five, six, seven and a turn. Straight.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17For one of the routines, year nine Mia is playing a wicked witch.

0:05:17 > 0:05:18OK, here we go.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22In the future, I'd love to perform in musicals, West End,

0:05:22 > 0:05:24or to be a performer like Rihanna.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30Mia has to lead the cast in a complex hip-hop routine.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33I love hip-hop dancing cos it's different

0:05:33 > 0:05:37and it's got so much characteristic in it. It's brilliant.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39I think it's quite boom.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42# Mama told me not to waste my life

0:05:42 > 0:05:46# She said spread your wings, my little butterfly... #

0:05:46 > 0:05:49But playing the lead will be very demanding.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52I love dancing and to get a lead role is such an honour

0:05:52 > 0:05:56but there's a lot of pressure on it, just in case you do something wrong.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Mia's not the only one feeling the pressure.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01OK, there's a lot of work to be done.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Teacher Charlene wants the routine to be perfect

0:06:03 > 0:06:06and right now it's looking anything but.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09You're making mistakes that should not be there.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Can you have your brains on? I don't want mistakes up to where we've done.

0:06:13 > 0:06:14What's the point of you doing that?

0:06:14 > 0:06:17- Am I...?- You're wasting your own time. And mine.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23You're seeing nothing. You're not interacting with each other.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Does that make sense? Those are the bits that make it look professional.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30With time running out, Mia knows they've got to improve.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Yeah, we need positions. Where's our positions?

0:06:32 > 0:06:35'Charlene wasn't too pleased but we're going to make it up to her'

0:06:35 > 0:06:39on Friday and we're going to make it...show her we can do this.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41Pushing themselves towards perfection

0:06:41 > 0:06:44is all part of daily life for these pupils.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53At his audition in south London, Reece is desperate to prove

0:06:53 > 0:06:55that he is the right choice for a part

0:06:55 > 0:06:58in a major new theatre production.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00The dancing went well this morning

0:07:00 > 0:07:02but this afternoon it's all about singing,

0:07:02 > 0:07:05and his mum is helping Reece to stop worrying about his voice.

0:07:07 > 0:07:13Feel the music but just sing how you would normally at home or at school.

0:07:13 > 0:07:14I know your voice is changing.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16Reece, I'd like to hear you sing.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Reece's voice is starting to break

0:07:19 > 0:07:21so it could be the thing that lets him down,

0:07:21 > 0:07:25especially as Ray is looking to cast him in a much younger role.

0:07:25 > 0:07:29# I believe that children are our future... #

0:07:29 > 0:07:33OK, stop for a second. Do it for me as young as you can make him, yeah?

0:07:33 > 0:07:35As young as you can make him,

0:07:35 > 0:07:38as close to ten years old as you can make him.

0:07:38 > 0:07:43# I believe that children are our future

0:07:43 > 0:07:47# Teach them well and let them lead the way... #

0:07:47 > 0:07:49OK, stop again. Can we take it down a little bit?

0:07:49 > 0:07:51Your voice is changing now, isn't it?

0:07:51 > 0:07:53KEYBOARD PLAYS SOFTLY

0:07:53 > 0:07:55OK. Take it easy.

0:07:55 > 0:07:56# I believe... #

0:07:56 > 0:07:59Ray has spotted that Reece's voice is breaking

0:07:59 > 0:08:01and that it's affecting his ability to sing.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04# Let them lead the way

0:08:04 > 0:08:07# Show them all the beauty they possess

0:08:07 > 0:08:09# Inside. #

0:08:09 > 0:08:10OK, good.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Reece has given it everything.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14OK, thank you.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17But he's worried his age is going to work against him.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19I'm too old.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Reece just hopes he's done enough to bag the part.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23They said they're going to tell us soon.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25I'm really nervous

0:08:25 > 0:08:28and I can't wait to find out if I get it or not.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33Whatever the outcome, Reece has certainly made an impression on Ray.

0:08:33 > 0:08:37He's an amazing dancer. Already he shows signs of being a star.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41And I tend to think that he has a very, very, very bright future.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46It's a great result for Reece to have made such an impact on Ray.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49But actually nailing the parts they desperately want

0:08:49 > 0:08:51can be tough for all the students.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Year nine Syd battled with her confidence

0:08:54 > 0:08:57when Ella got the lead in the evening performance

0:08:57 > 0:08:59of their end-of-year show.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02She thought the matinee she was given instead

0:09:02 > 0:09:05would be less prestigious. With the show now just days away,

0:09:05 > 0:09:09there's another problem which could stop Syd taking part.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Today we've got rehearsals,

0:09:11 > 0:09:14and I've lost my voice

0:09:14 > 0:09:17so I'm very scared.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21The show means a lot to me so it's a big thing

0:09:21 > 0:09:24if I'm not well for it,

0:09:24 > 0:09:26so hopefully my voice will come back.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29If it doesn't come back and I miss the show, I would be, like,

0:09:29 > 0:09:32so gutted cos I've got a main part.

0:09:35 > 0:09:39Syd shares her concerns with good friend Ella.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42I talk, thinking I'm fine, and halfway through a sentence,

0:09:42 > 0:09:44it croaks. It goes really high

0:09:44 > 0:09:47- and it goes really low. - Oh, I hate when that happens.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49You just need to drink loads of water and honey and lemon.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53But I'm just a bit worried it will go and I won't be able to do the show.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57You'll be able to do it. I'll make sure you'll be able to do it.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59So will I.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01If Syd missed the show,

0:10:01 > 0:10:04I think she'd feel really upset because it's the worst thing.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07This is an amazing opportunity for her.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09So she just has to get better and do it.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12It's really nice to have Ella there supporting me

0:10:12 > 0:10:13cos she is one of my best friends

0:10:13 > 0:10:17and I know through this she's always there for me.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21In the final rehearsal, Syd's forced to mime her lines,

0:10:21 > 0:10:24missing out on the practice she desperately needs.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27ALL: # Seuss

0:10:28 > 0:10:31# When you think about Seuss, Seuss, Seuss

0:10:31 > 0:10:34# Seuss, Seuss! #

0:10:36 > 0:10:38It is really frustrating

0:10:38 > 0:10:44that I can't give 100% hard work into my performance.

0:10:44 > 0:10:48But hopefully I'll be able to give 1,000% in the show.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51It's less than a week until the matinee

0:10:51 > 0:10:53and if Syd's voice doesn't get better,

0:10:53 > 0:10:55she could be in danger of losing the part.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02The end of the summer term is not just about the end-of-year shows.

0:11:02 > 0:11:06It's also about celebrating the end of exams with a spectacular prom.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Head girl Georgia has had the tough task of organising it.

0:11:09 > 0:11:14We need a date. We've got literally nothing for prom.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17Prom is a shambles. People don't know what they're doing.

0:11:17 > 0:11:18It's getting a bit too much.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21It hasn't been easy but she got everything booked

0:11:21 > 0:11:22and now it's prom time.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Today has definitely got to be perfect.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27Like, it's just our last chance that we're all going to be together.

0:11:27 > 0:11:32Everyone is going to be dressed up and everyone wants it to be pretty

0:11:32 > 0:11:35and everyone wants it to be perfect so it's got to be perfect.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37With just hours to go,

0:11:37 > 0:11:39Georgia and her parents are getting the place ready.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42She's been worrying for the past three nights

0:11:42 > 0:11:44and having really bad dreams

0:11:44 > 0:11:46that something is actually going to go wrong.

0:11:46 > 0:11:50I think they should really enjoy it

0:11:50 > 0:11:52and cherish every moment, really, now.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55Hopefully everything will go well for them

0:11:55 > 0:11:57and they'll have a great memory.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01GEORGIA LAUGHS

0:12:04 > 0:12:07It ain't going to get no bigger than that.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11We have bubbles for the tables.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12I'm very excited.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17Georgia's desperate to provide a night to remember

0:12:17 > 0:12:21but after all this hard work, will the party go off with a bang?

0:12:21 > 0:12:24I'm very happy with how it's looking. It looks so pretty.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27I'm just hoping everyone else feels exactly the same, really.

0:12:27 > 0:12:31I don't really know what you can complain about - we've got bubbles!

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Partying couldn't be further from Mia's mind.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40The last rehearsal of her wicked witch routine

0:12:40 > 0:12:42for the end-of-year show was a disaster.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45You're wasting your own time. And mine.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Charlene wasn't happy with us

0:12:49 > 0:12:51but this week we'll show her that we really can do this.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54We've got to make sure everything is perfect.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Today is the final chance to get it right before showing it to Karen,

0:12:57 > 0:12:59the show's director.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01If the beginning is not right, I will have a heart attack

0:13:01 > 0:13:03and I shall take it out on you

0:13:03 > 0:13:05because you should have practised it. All right?

0:13:05 > 0:13:09And Charlene's expecting to see a big improvement.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Yeah, you are working hard but you're not working smart.
