0:00:09 > 0:00:13generation of community police officers are on the front line.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18Their aim is to develop a stronger bond with the community,

0:00:18 > 0:00:22crack down on the crimes taking place on your doorstep...

0:00:22 > 0:00:26and formulate fast action plans to take down the criminals.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27- I said no!- I said yes.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31In this new series of Neighbourhood Blues,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33we go to the Humberside police region

0:00:33 > 0:00:37and get exclusive access to 12 teams of neighbourhood police officers

0:00:37 > 0:00:41as they tackle the problems blighting local people...

0:00:41 > 0:00:43- I don't care!- Eh, eh!

0:00:45 > 0:00:49..and rise to the challenge of making the streets a safer place.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Coming up -

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Oli gets in the thick of the action as he tackles a lad

0:01:17 > 0:01:18wanted for assault.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24A raid on a suspected dealing den turns up a suspicious

0:01:24 > 0:01:27stash of drugs and a hoard of deadly-looking weapons.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Not the nicest thing to be coming up against.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33And there's a final warning for this resident to open up.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34You need to open the door,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37else we're going to have to put it through - we know you're in there.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43For neighbourhood policing to work,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46the public must be completely onside.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49One of the best ways of achieving this is for the police to have

0:01:49 > 0:01:53a very strong street presence and encourage locals to come up to them

0:01:53 > 0:01:57to talk about the crimes they feel are blighting the place they live in.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59But how much of the talk leads to action?

0:01:59 > 0:02:03And how satisfied are people with the results achieved?

0:02:03 > 0:02:04We're about to find out.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09The neighbourhood teams make regular foot and car patrols on their patch.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13It keeps them in close contact with the community, but also means

0:02:13 > 0:02:16they're on hand to respond to any call for help should it arise.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20PCSOs Oli Genery and Ben Harbottle were driving through Grimsby

0:02:20 > 0:02:22when word comes in over the wire -

0:02:22 > 0:02:27an assault has apparently taken place on the south side of town.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30They race to the location, but as the team draw closer,

0:02:30 > 0:02:34they can see the assault isn't over - it's still in progress.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37We've got an ongoing assault at the junction of...

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Racing to the scene, Oli and Ben bail out of the police car.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Ben gives chase to one man who's raced away up the street.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Oli tries to detain another person at the scene,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55but finds himself under attack and punched in the face.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Oi!

0:02:57 > 0:02:58But Oli uses all of his training

0:02:58 > 0:03:02and expertise to neutralise the threat posed by this lad

0:03:02 > 0:03:05and wrestles the attacker to the floor.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08The person Oli has detained is well-known to the police

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and he radios this information back to base.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12He's just assaulted me, punched me in the face.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15- Stay down!- Ahhh! Ahhh!

0:03:15 > 0:03:19The lad screams to a friend to come and rescue him.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23A man responds and an already tense situation looks like it might

0:03:23 > 0:03:24reach flashpoint.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26BLEEP!

0:03:26 > 0:03:29- It's your own- BLEEP- fault, ain't it?! What did I say? I said no!

0:03:29 > 0:03:31- Back off.- I said no!

0:03:31 > 0:03:33- What did you do? You- BLEEP!

0:03:33 > 0:03:39- BLEEP!- Don't call me any more. - BLEEP!

0:03:39 > 0:03:41You're an idiot.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43Idiot, the lot of you, you're mugs.

0:03:43 > 0:03:44But Oli can allay his fears,

0:03:44 > 0:03:47because it turns out the man's friend has disowned him.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50And this replay of the assault highlights

0:03:50 > 0:03:53he actually tried to stop the attack in the first place.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59All alone, the suspect waits on the ground with the sound of police

0:03:59 > 0:04:00sirens ringing in his ears.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02As the police van arrives,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05a witness to the assault finally offers up some

0:04:05 > 0:04:08information about exactly what led to the attack.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12He said, "Give me your ped," and with that, just punched him, that's it.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14There was a lot more of them.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17- Who else?- There was a lot more, but they've all disappeared.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20The assault was born out of the attempted theft of a moped.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22As the police work to gather more information,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24attention shifts to the victim.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Can we get an ambulance to this passenger, please?

0:04:27 > 0:04:31As the man waits for an ambulance to arrive, suddenly...

0:04:32 > 0:04:35..it's action stations again, as Oli spots one of the other

0:04:35 > 0:04:38suspects who may have been involved in the assault.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41The team race through the streets.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43The suspect is nowhere to be seen,

0:04:43 > 0:04:46but the police spread out in an attempt to surround him.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49But one of them spots the suspect heading into a house.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52The home of someone else who's been in trouble with the police in the past.

0:04:52 > 0:04:53Steve, come out, mate.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00Oli knocks on the door and calls for the suspect to come out.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01Steve!

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Just chased him round the corner and he's run straight into this house.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07I don't know if he's nipped out the back way or not.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09Officers in that car over there have chased somebody,

0:05:09 > 0:05:11similar sort of clothing, in that direction.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13KNOCKING ON INTERNAL DOOR

0:05:13 > 0:05:15WOMAN: Steven, answer your door!

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Guys, can someone come to the door?

0:05:17 > 0:05:18He's not in.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- He's run in, so where is he? - Where has he gone?

0:05:21 > 0:05:23I've seen him run in. I was right behind him.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26- You'll have to wait then, won't you?- He's not here!

0:05:26 > 0:05:30- We've seen him run in here. - He's not here now.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Chased him in here, he's not come out the front door.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35Whether he's gone out the back door...

0:05:35 > 0:05:39- I think there's an alleyway which runs between these two streets. - Is there anyone in there?

0:05:39 > 0:05:41With the occupants of the home denying it,

0:05:41 > 0:05:45it's left to the police to decide to execute a quick search.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48BLEEP!

0:05:48 > 0:05:50I want you to get out.

0:05:50 > 0:05:54But attention once again shifts to the surrounding streets

0:05:54 > 0:05:56and the back alley.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00Within moments, another police officer captures the suspect,

0:06:00 > 0:06:03who was trying to escape by the rear gates.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07The lad who was outstanding has now been picked up in his rear garden.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13Returning to the scene of the assault,

0:06:13 > 0:06:16the team can now begin to question witnesses

0:06:16 > 0:06:21and try to locate CCTV in a bid to build a body of evidence that

0:06:21 > 0:06:23may be used to prosecute any of the offenders.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Could we have a look at that camera you're looking at now

0:06:26 > 0:06:28and the one around the side of the building, please?

0:06:28 > 0:06:33Find out later if CCTV does provide the key to determine what

0:06:33 > 0:06:37happened and if the perpetrators of the violent attack get sent to jail.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48The neighbourhood team employ all the resources at their disposal

0:06:48 > 0:06:50to deal with any problem,

0:06:50 > 0:06:56but being on call 24/7 means they never know what to expect next.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59Today, over at Clough Road Police Station, the ongoing

0:06:59 > 0:07:03operation to strike at the heart of the drugs trade is picking up pace.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05And once again, Sergeant Mick Stevenson

0:07:05 > 0:07:09and his team are taking the lead.

0:07:09 > 0:07:13The target is a suspected class A drugs dealing den,

0:07:13 > 0:07:15but there's an added danger.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18Intel suggests that in the past, the occupant has been

0:07:18 > 0:07:20convicted of possessing dangerous weapons.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Mick briefs the team about the suspect's background.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27- He's got warnings- BLEEP - for violence,

0:07:27 > 0:07:28firearms,

0:07:28 > 0:07:31possesses stun guns, CS and a machete,

0:07:31 > 0:07:33but that goes back seven years.

0:07:33 > 0:07:35So...

0:07:35 > 0:07:36we can only hope.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40There's also another reason for striking the property fast.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42It may be housing stolen goods.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44The reason there's an urgency around this job is

0:07:44 > 0:07:48a suggestion that a couple of days ago, they had some stolen property

0:07:48 > 0:07:52there, not least a push-bike, that we need to try and recover.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58With the search warrant in hand, Mick musters the team.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Suited up, they head to the destination in convoy.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Yeah, coming down Clough Road as we speak.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10Yeah, just before that No Entry sign.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19Class A drugs are notoriously easy to flush away down toilets or

0:08:19 > 0:08:22sinks, so there's no warning knock or call today.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24It's straight in with the door.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28Police, stay where you are!

0:08:31 > 0:08:33The team sweep through the house.

0:08:35 > 0:08:36Clear!

0:08:38 > 0:08:40The suspect is quickly found in the living room

0:08:40 > 0:08:42and immediately detained and cuffed.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46- Executing a drug search warrant, mate, all right?- All right.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48- What's your name?- BLEEP!

0:08:48 > 0:08:50We're going to detain you until we get everything secured.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53- You got anything in your pockets at the minute?- No.

0:08:53 > 0:08:57Stand up for us, then. Just give you a quick pat-down.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59Can I put that in the ashtray, please?

0:09:04 > 0:09:05I wondered what was going on!

0:09:05 > 0:09:07The man may be in shock,

0:09:07 > 0:09:11but it's no surprise as Mick delivers the news - he's been busted.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Mate, this is a warrant, OK?

0:09:14 > 0:09:18The first stage of any search is gauging how cooperative a suspect is.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22- Is there anything in the house you want to make us aware of?- BLEEP!

0:09:22 > 0:09:25- I've got a bit of weed.- Right. What, just a bit of personal?

0:09:25 > 0:09:28And in this case, the answer is very.

0:09:28 > 0:09:33- I've got some hypodermics upstairs what are my own.- OK. Are they used?

0:09:33 > 0:09:35- Yeah.- Where are they?

0:09:35 > 0:09:37They're at the side of my bed.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43PC Chantelle Gardam has already found a number of suspicious

0:09:43 > 0:09:45items in the property.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48What he said is that there's that tray there, which is

0:09:48 > 0:09:51a small amount, there's, er...

0:09:51 > 0:09:52tablets, diazepam,

0:09:52 > 0:09:56in there and there's some amphet in the freezer in the kitchen.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Their presence alone is enough for the suspect to be delivered

0:09:59 > 0:10:00the body blow.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Possession with intent to supply class B and also suspicion of theft

0:10:03 > 0:10:06of a pedal cycle, all right? You don't have to say anything, but it

0:10:06 > 0:10:08may harm your defence if you don't mention, when questioned,

0:10:08 > 0:10:12something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15The suspect is taken away for questioning back at the station.

0:10:20 > 0:10:25Back inside the house, the search for class A drugs continues.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28In the kitchen, Mick isn't playing MasterChef,

0:10:28 > 0:10:30he's playing master cop.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34Amphetamine in there.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38And we know that because, basically, from what we can see,

0:10:38 > 0:10:44but also the fact that the guy that's now in custody has told us that it's actually in there.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47The suspicious-looking white powder, which the team suspect

0:10:47 > 0:10:51could be amphetamine, will be sent to the lab for further examination.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54- It's pretty clean-looking, isn't it?- It does look clean.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56Outside the house,

0:10:56 > 0:10:59Mick's been called to inspect a bicycle which may prove to be one of

0:10:59 > 0:11:03the stolen items which was believed to be stored at the property.

0:11:03 > 0:11:0500006.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07The serial number will be matched

0:11:07 > 0:11:10with bikes on the stolen property register

0:11:10 > 0:11:13to determine if it has in fact been stolen.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16Returning to the house, the search has turned up what appears to be

0:11:16 > 0:11:20widespread evidence of drug use and possible dealing activity.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22We've got a box of what was glucose there, look,

0:11:22 > 0:11:26and some remnants of some amphet on that wrap.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Them gloves are all covered in it as well.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32That's all been shoved in there with the empty glucose wrapper.

0:11:32 > 0:11:36Some freezer bags, spoon up there that's got white powder on it

0:11:36 > 0:11:38and a box of gloves.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42You don't need a sniffer dog with Mick's nose for trouble,

0:11:42 > 0:11:45as the overwhelming smell of drugs in the house means he's

0:11:45 > 0:11:48convinced that there's more being hidden.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51And a discovery that Chantelle makes suggests that

0:11:51 > 0:11:53Mick's suspicions are being proven right.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01Oop. Mick.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06Oh, yeah.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11- Is this remnants?- There's a bit in there, look.- Hmm.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Next to the glucose box.

0:12:17 > 0:12:21Whilst glucose is not illegal and can be bought as a food supplement,

0:12:21 > 0:12:23dealers often use the white powder

0:12:23 > 0:12:26to cut with illegal drugs to bulk them up before selling on.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Scales. Oh, yes.

0:12:30 > 0:12:34And in the living room Dave is gathering more evidence,

0:12:34 > 0:12:37including monitoring activity on a mobile phone

0:12:37 > 0:12:40he believes could be a hotline to the dealer.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43It's been active since we've been here. Nonstop, really.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Ringing left, right and centre, plus text messages.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49There's also some illegal pharmaceuticals to examine,

0:12:49 > 0:12:51which could be sleeping pills.

0:12:51 > 0:12:57Pill bottle, filled to the brim of blue tablets, which are probably diazepam.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00Blue pills found in a camouflage jacket under the stairs.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04- Is it the same as that pill we recovered earlier?- Yeah, it looks that way.

0:13:04 > 0:13:05- Are they unmarked?- Yeah.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07They're Manos, then.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Not actual diazepams, but Manos, which are the same.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14And there's the small matter of the potentially dangerous weapons to take care of.

0:13:14 > 0:13:19This was one of his nice...

0:13:19 > 0:13:23At the side of his bed upstairs. Obviously not the sort of thing we like people to be having,

0:13:23 > 0:13:26especially when people are aware we're going to be coming through their front doors.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29It's a bag full of dirty needles.

0:13:29 > 0:13:33A further discovery of more drug-taking paraphernalia upstairs

0:13:33 > 0:13:36means the team have to take extra caution,

0:13:36 > 0:13:39because there's a series of loaded and lined up syringes.

0:13:41 > 0:13:42They'll be amphet, I would've thought.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44It could even be heroin, to be honest.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48The results of the search means Mick has a bounty of work to carry out

0:13:48 > 0:13:50when he gets back to the station.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53All that will be put together and then it'll go to the

0:13:53 > 0:13:58Priority Crime Team or one of the crime teams anyway, to be investigated.

0:13:58 > 0:13:59And during the course of the evening,

0:13:59 > 0:14:02that guy's going to get interviewed, he'll have his say

0:14:02 > 0:14:06and thereafter they'll look at what's going to happen to him,

0:14:06 > 0:14:08and a decision will be made.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10When the man appeared before the judge,

0:14:10 > 0:14:14he was sentenced to 15 months in jail for dealing amphetamine

0:14:14 > 0:14:17and three extra months for dealing diazepam.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19The theft charge was discontinued.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28Over in Grimsby, the team responds to reports that a man was violently attacked

0:14:28 > 0:14:32as two thieves tried to steal his moped.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36On arriving at the scene, PCSO Oli Genery had to fend off blows

0:14:36 > 0:14:40from one of the suspects, before wrestling him to the ground.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44Another man was arrested after being caught escaping through a nearby back garden.

0:14:44 > 0:14:49Police are now speaking to witnesses to gather a picture of exactly what happened.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53We're going to take the witness and the victim back to the station.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56- Are we happy we've got everything? - Yeah, yeah.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58Eyewitnesses are not the only important

0:14:58 > 0:15:01source of information for the police.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04There's also the CCTV camera that this local shop has.

0:15:04 > 0:15:08We're hoping this store has some extra CCTV footage of what's gone on. Hi, buddy.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10Oli looks on at the CCTV.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13Could we have a look at that camera you're looking at now?

0:15:13 > 0:15:16The whole incident unfolds before his eyes.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19The victim drives down the road on his scooter, pulls up at the

0:15:19 > 0:15:23traffic lights, which, unfortunately, obscures part of our view of events.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25But look on,

0:15:25 > 0:15:27as suspect number one races down the road

0:15:27 > 0:15:31and can be seen rushing at the victim on his stationary scooter.

0:15:31 > 0:15:35Then, another group of men can be seen racing to the scene.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38With the assault masked by the traffic lights, however,

0:15:38 > 0:15:42Oli has to return to do some old-fashioned-style detective work

0:15:42 > 0:15:45and hit the streets again looking for more witnesses.

0:15:45 > 0:15:49One of the guys started jumping around and I thought that the

0:15:49 > 0:15:54motorbike had hit the car in front, but then they pushed him

0:15:54 > 0:15:56and then the other guy from the van intervened

0:15:56 > 0:16:00and then they all punched the guy from the van, and then kicked

0:16:00 > 0:16:04and was stamping on his head and kicking him in his body.

0:16:05 > 0:16:10Fortunately, the victim avoided any serious injuries by virtue of the fact

0:16:10 > 0:16:13that the heavy-duty clothing he was wearing cushioned him from the blows.

0:16:13 > 0:16:16From what I gather, he's just cut up, a bit shaken.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19Obviously it's quite a nasty experience,

0:16:19 > 0:16:22trying to get your motorbike stolen from you, I'm assuming.

0:16:22 > 0:16:26A work colleague of the victim was the man in the van who raced to his help.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29Reliving the incident, he's stunned by what's happened.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34I'm shook up a little bit, obviously.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36But it was just pointless.

0:16:36 > 0:16:40There was no need for it. It was just mindless violence.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43One of the young lads came running up, pushed him straight

0:16:43 > 0:16:46off his motorbike, started kicking him while he was on the floor.

0:16:46 > 0:16:50His hands was in his pockets, so he's trying to grab his keys.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52I jumped out the van. As I jumped out the van, he turned on me.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55As I walked up to him, he turned round and said,

0:16:55 > 0:16:56"Do you want some of this?"

0:16:56 > 0:16:59He started smacking me around the back of my head.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03As I was on the floor, all the other lads came running up and joined in.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05The patrol car came past and that was it.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08They all ran off, apart from one of them.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11As soon as the patrol car came along, they were straight out,

0:17:11 > 0:17:13straight in there before it could get worse.

0:17:13 > 0:17:16The response was brilliant.

0:17:18 > 0:17:22The police were on the scene within less than a minute.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25The CCTV acts as a timely reminder to show just how fast police

0:17:25 > 0:17:28were in rounding up the suspects.

0:17:28 > 0:17:32With suspects under arrest and the victim having sustained no

0:17:32 > 0:17:35serious injuries, it's a sterling result for the team.

0:17:41 > 0:17:45The man who ran away pleaded guilty to both robbery and assault

0:17:45 > 0:17:48and was sentenced to 52 months behind bars.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51The lad on the floor, pleaded guilty to assaulting the officers

0:17:51 > 0:17:56trying to arrest him and to robbery. He was sent to jail for 22 months.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06The neighbourhood teams respond to all manner of issues,

0:18:06 > 0:18:08but everything they do is in direct response

0:18:08 > 0:18:11to local residents' complaints about crime.

0:18:11 > 0:18:16In a no-nonsense way, they set out to make a difference.

0:18:17 > 0:18:23Aggravated burglary is amongst the most serious and feared of all crimes.

0:18:23 > 0:18:28This occurs when a burglar breaks into a home or premises armed with a weapon.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35Today, Dave McKinder and the team

0:18:35 > 0:18:38are on the trail of a man wanted for this very offence.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41The police have been after him for months,

0:18:41 > 0:18:44and as Dave explains, the net is now closing in.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46This happened quite some time ago.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48He's been laying low for months

0:18:48 > 0:18:50and his co-accused has already been dealt with,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53and I understand is currently in prison for his part in the offence.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56You've got to bear in mind that potentially,

0:18:56 > 0:19:00if he is at home, there are certainly things he can use as weapons against us,

0:19:00 > 0:19:05and he'll know the whereabouts of those in this house and we won't.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08So we're going down there with enough staff to be able to

0:19:08 > 0:19:11deal with anything we might come across.

0:19:11 > 0:19:15Extra backup is provided by a second team picked up along the way.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19With the target location coming into view,

0:19:19 > 0:19:22Dave plans the best way to deploy the team.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27I think it's this white house coming up on this corner.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30AJ's identified it as being on the corner of the main road

0:19:30 > 0:19:33and suggested our best plan might be to get round to the back

0:19:33 > 0:19:37or the side of the address, where there might be any exits out the back.

0:19:39 > 0:19:43PCSO Sean Casson joins Dave going in at the front,

0:19:43 > 0:19:46while the others block off the potential escape route.

0:19:56 > 0:19:59With no response and no sign of life behind the closed curtains,

0:19:59 > 0:20:03the police seem to be drawing a blank.

0:20:03 > 0:20:04Anybody there, Sean?

0:20:04 > 0:20:07- It's definitely the right address. - Yeah.

0:20:07 > 0:20:12Shame to come all this way and not get anything from it, ain't it? One way or another.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16But just then, there's a noise round the back.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22No man here, unfortunately. It's a dog.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28More a pooch looking to be pampered than a guard dog.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31The animal offers a little light relief for the team.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38And it would seem a little light relief for the dog is in order too.

0:20:38 > 0:20:40He peed all over your foot.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45He peed all over his foot.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48Perhaps Sean should've taken heed of the warning sign.

0:20:53 > 0:20:54A bit overexcited, I think.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57Later, we rejoin the team for their return visit and see

0:20:57 > 0:21:00if this time they get the result they're looking for.

0:21:05 > 0:21:09For many people, a dog is a man's best friend.

0:21:09 > 0:21:12But be warned, the number of people admitted to hospital due to

0:21:12 > 0:21:15dog bites has risen in the last five years.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19In Humberside, the neighbourhood team take very seriously

0:21:19 > 0:21:22any reported incidents of dogs biting the public.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Today, Paul and Dave are paying a visit to a woman whose dog has

0:21:25 > 0:21:28bitten someone whilst tied up outside a supermarket.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30She's failed to appear before court,

0:21:30 > 0:21:34so it's time to go and collect her so she can face the magistrate.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36We haven't had a response from this address yet

0:21:36 > 0:21:39and was met with no reply. All we got was a dog barking.

0:21:39 > 0:21:44So we're going to go down there again, give it a knock and we'll go from there.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46If she's been seen in the last couple of days, then it would

0:21:46 > 0:21:50suggest that she knows she's wanted and she's trying to avoid us.

0:21:50 > 0:21:52Today, Dave and Paul are armed with a warrant

0:21:52 > 0:21:56and the equipment to break down the door, if needs be.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00Have you seen the woman who lives in there recently?

0:22:00 > 0:22:03- She's been out this morning? Is she in now?- I don't know.

0:22:03 > 0:22:06You haven't seen her come back? Cheers.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10With a new court appearance scheduled, it's time for the

0:22:10 > 0:22:13woman to face up to the charge that her dog has bitten someone.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15Lesley, it's the police.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20You need to come and answer the door now.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Rather than go straight in with the big red key,

0:22:24 > 0:22:27police take a gentler approach.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30But when Sean Casson spots the woman behind her curtains,

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Dave wonders if there's a reason why she's not answering.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35I wouldn't say she was hiding, but she's not...

0:22:35 > 0:22:38Can we knock on the window to let her know that we're there?

0:22:38 > 0:22:41- Because I'm just wondering if she's got hearing issues.- She might have.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44Lesley, you need to open the door cos we're going to have to put it through.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46We know you're in there because we've seen you.

0:22:46 > 0:22:50If you can hear me, come and answer it. It's the police.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52She's just knelt on the floor looking at something.

0:22:52 > 0:22:55- She is moving, isn't she? - Yeah, she's moving about.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58Options exhausted and warnings unheeded,

0:22:58 > 0:23:00it's time now for a more direct approach.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07It's not having it at all.

0:23:11 > 0:23:15When the composite door absorbs the shock and holds fast,

0:23:15 > 0:23:19the police trade up to a two-man ram, but the going's still tough.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26She's having none of it, so...

0:23:26 > 0:23:29She's just burying her head in the sand, isn't she? Literally.

0:23:29 > 0:23:34With the locks not budging, it's time for a bit of strategic panel bashing.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37Lesley, come to the door now.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Otherwise your door is going to be ruined.

0:23:47 > 0:23:50A helpful key left in the lock solves the problem.

0:23:52 > 0:23:58Lesley. Police, we're coming in. Stay where you are.

0:23:58 > 0:24:01Just open the door and see how the dog reacts before you go in.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04Hello? Hello?

0:24:04 > 0:24:05Lesley, it's the police.

0:24:05 > 0:24:09- Firstly, why didn't you answer the door?- Well...- This is the third day in a row now we've been.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12- We've asked you kindly to come to the door.- I've been out as well.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15- Right, but you haven't been out this morning, have you?- Not yet.

0:24:15 > 0:24:19We've been stood outside for nearly half an hour and we've pleaded with you to come to the door.

0:24:19 > 0:24:22We've identified ourselves as the police, haven't we?

0:24:22 > 0:24:24- What, with him barking... - Come on, Lesley.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27We've shouted long enough and loud enough. My colleagues have seen you through there.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30The woman protests that she hasn't heard the police

0:24:30 > 0:24:32because her dog's been barking.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35The bottom line is you're going to have to come to court this morning.

0:24:35 > 0:24:37You obviously can't bring him with you.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40The woman refuses to leave her dog unless it's properly cared for.

0:24:40 > 0:24:42I can't leave him.

0:24:42 > 0:24:46- You have to, Lesley. As long as he's got water.- You put him in a kennel.

0:24:46 > 0:24:47I can't put them in a kennel, no.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49But there'll be no kennel for this canine.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51You're only going to be gone a couple of hours.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54Now, your front door now is destroyed and needs boarding up.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58- Two of our colleagues will be standing with that.- Please don't let anybody get in my house.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01Two of our colleagues will be standing there until your address is made secure.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04Once it's made secure, we'll have another key for you. In the meantime,

0:25:04 > 0:25:07they'll keep one eye on the dog. All he needs to do is stay in there.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11Just put him in there now, please.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15The dog is removed to another room, though the hamsters can stay put.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18Come on, Lesley, you need to go now. Lesley.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20Lesley, the reason I'm arresting you is

0:25:20 > 0:25:23- so we can take you to court, all right?- Not even to say...

0:25:23 > 0:25:28- You're not allowed to anyway. - Come on, then. Come on.

0:25:28 > 0:25:30Don't let him go, please.

0:25:33 > 0:25:36As the court is not yet open, the woman is taken to the station.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39I don't believe she has any issues with her hearing.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42She communicated with us perfectly well while we were talking to her.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44She'd have been able to hear us banging on the windows and doors

0:25:44 > 0:25:47and certainly when we started hitting the door with the ram,

0:25:47 > 0:25:49she would have been aware that was happening.

0:25:49 > 0:25:53She's obviously just thought that if she ignores us, we'll go away

0:25:53 > 0:25:56and I'm sure when we've been on previous occasions, she's probably

0:25:56 > 0:25:59been in there, but has probably just chosen not to answer the door.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02Under arrest, the woman is required to stay in a cell

0:26:02 > 0:26:04until it's time to go to court.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08But getting her to respond to police requests still isn't easy.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10OK, just pop yourself in.

0:26:10 > 0:26:12Lesley? You have to go in.

0:26:14 > 0:26:16All right.

0:26:16 > 0:26:17Finally, appearing in court,

0:26:17 > 0:26:20the woman was instructed to have her dog muzzled

0:26:20 > 0:26:24and on a lead at all times out in public or have it put down.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26She was also required to pay compensation

0:26:26 > 0:26:29to the bite victim of £500.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38Searching for a burglar, police have drawn a blank,

0:26:38 > 0:26:40but it's not over till it's over

0:26:40 > 0:26:43and a return visit to the house where he's thought to be hiding

0:26:43 > 0:26:45is on the cards once again.

0:26:45 > 0:26:46To be honest, I can't imagine

0:26:46 > 0:26:49- he's going to be up and about at this time of day.- No.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54Perhaps the early bird will catch the worm.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58Second time round, Dave and the team now know the lie of the land

0:26:58 > 0:27:00and immediately fan out to surround the house.

0:27:08 > 0:27:11But has their early-morning ploy been for nothing?

0:27:11 > 0:27:13HE KNOCKS

0:27:16 > 0:27:19Once again, there's movement round the back.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23- Hello.- Have my colleagues gone in?

0:27:23 > 0:27:25The wanted man's grandfather confirms

0:27:25 > 0:27:28that the others are inside and have found their target.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31We've come to the address,

0:27:31 > 0:27:33we've knocked on the door on both sides

0:27:33 > 0:27:36and we've found the wanted male inside.

0:27:36 > 0:27:39He's quite calm and he's complying with us.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Fortunately, the man comes quietly

0:27:50 > 0:27:52and even helps Dave navigate back to the main road.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55- Just follow the road round. - Just follow the road around? OK.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57You're not leading us into an ambush, are you?

0:27:57 > 0:28:01The man actually seems to be pleased to be taken into custody.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04Wow, that was a long drive.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10The two long trips were worth it for the neighbourhood team.

0:28:10 > 0:28:15Appearing at Crown Court, the man pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary

0:28:15 > 0:28:18and was sentenced to 12 months behind bars.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21Right, we'll leave you, then, Ashley. See you later.
