0:01:33 > 0:01:36See you later.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44Neighbourhood policing is all about taking residents' concerns

0:01:44 > 0:01:46about crime where they live to heart.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Any complaint is listened to carefully and the police are

0:01:49 > 0:01:53prepared to respond with a strong show of force when it's needed.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Nowhere does this hit home harder than

0:01:56 > 0:01:59when they go after people who are turning a residential area

0:01:59 > 0:02:03into a magnet for others looking to hang out and take drugs.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07It's been said that an Englishman's home is his castle,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09but for the residents of one block of flats,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13their castle has been turned into a magnet for drug dealers and users.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17All manner of undesirable people have been seen by tenants

0:02:17 > 0:02:20going in and out of certain flats in the block.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21In addition to this,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25the whole building has begun to descend into total squalor.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28These tenant photographs record the urine,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31blood and faeces that have covered the communal areas.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35It makes getting through your front door a gut-wrenching experience

0:02:35 > 0:02:40and is a heartbreaking example of how drug abuse can destroy lives.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43These photographs have been a trigger for the Neighbourhood Team

0:02:43 > 0:02:45to take action.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48They've gathered information on two properties in the block

0:02:48 > 0:02:51that are suspected drug dens and a major raid awaits.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54We're going to do a drugs warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act

0:02:54 > 0:02:58in relation to recent intel, relating to class A drugs and cannabis.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01There are numerous visitors that may or may not be present

0:03:01 > 0:03:03when we get there.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06We've got 15 or so names, to be quite honest.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09The Neighbourhood Team prepare to execute a warrant that will

0:03:09 > 0:03:12hopefully go right to the heart of the problem.

0:03:12 > 0:03:17Drug users, all sorts of people, are frequenting flats within this

0:03:17 > 0:03:24block of flats, leaving faeces, needles, spoons, drug paraphernalia.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28The big red key makes swift work of the locked door.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31- Police!- Police! Stay where you are!

0:03:31 > 0:03:34But is anyone at home?

0:03:34 > 0:03:36- Clear!- Police!

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Two people are immediately arrested,

0:03:43 > 0:03:47but one swiftly takes umbrage at the unexpected police presence.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49- My- BLEEP- flat! Get out!

0:03:51 > 0:03:53My flat! Get out!

0:03:53 > 0:03:58- We're not swearing at you, are we? - You keep a civil tongue with us, OK?

0:04:00 > 0:04:01Listen to your friend.

0:04:06 > 0:04:07They're officers.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Trying to calm his friend down,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12the man seems only to add fuel to the fire.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17- No! I couldn't give a- BLEEP.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19- My- BLEEP- house! I'll say what I want, when I- BLEEP- want!

0:04:19 > 0:04:23- Just calm it down, fella. - Sooner you lot- BLEEP,- the better.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25As the search begins for suspected Class A drugs,

0:04:25 > 0:04:29evidence of drug taking is immediately apparent.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32There's obviously use going on in here, so...

0:04:32 > 0:04:34The needles would tend to suggest that.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37Dog man's just clearing some of the stuff before he brings his dog in.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41Cos he don't want his dog to get stabbed by a needle.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43One, I do not do needles.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47Two, I've had a friend staying here and he's not here now.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49All right.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52The sniffer dog goes to work,

0:04:52 > 0:04:55immediately alert to the aromas in the room.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03An overturned mattress brings to light a number of needles

0:05:03 > 0:05:05and syringes.

0:05:08 > 0:05:09- Got them?- Yeah.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11Super.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14There's plenty of paraphernalia around.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17There's certainly been some drug use.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19There's loads of interest from him.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23But he hasn't nailed anything down, so we'll move on to the next room.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Police can apply to take over a property

0:05:25 > 0:05:28and close it down for at least three months if they have

0:05:28 > 0:05:33reasonable suspicion it's being used as a class A drugs den.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36Crime scene investigators' photographs provide

0:05:36 > 0:05:39a portrait of drugs-dominated life in the flat...

0:05:39 > 0:05:43There's three needles, which were in the cistern.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46When I took it off, they fell into the sink.

0:05:46 > 0:05:49..contributing to the visual evidence that will be put in front

0:05:49 > 0:05:52of the court.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56In here, there's an uncapped needle. Plastic bags and things, which is

0:05:56 > 0:06:00what they use to wrap the drugs in, with the knots.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04There's bent spoons, there's casings from needles

0:06:04 > 0:06:07and things like that that are just laid about the place.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10It shows continuous use of drugs, really, drugs paraphernalia.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13Maybe not so much dealing from the address,

0:06:13 > 0:06:16but certainly drug use at the address.

0:06:16 > 0:06:17Medium to long-term now,

0:06:17 > 0:06:20we will be looking at liaising with the council,

0:06:20 > 0:06:23tenancy enforcement on the address, crack house closure,

0:06:23 > 0:06:26from our point of view, with a view to shutting the address down

0:06:26 > 0:06:29entirely and stopping the antisocial behaviour problems that go with it.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32Before any class A drugs den can actually be

0:06:32 > 0:06:35closed by the police, a tenant has the opportunity to

0:06:35 > 0:06:39give his side of the story and challenge the seizure of their flat.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43But will this man attend his court hearing and fight for his home,

0:06:43 > 0:06:47or will the closure of this so-called crack house get the go ahead?

0:06:47 > 0:06:53Job done. Slight damage to the door, but nothing that's unrepairable.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Is the tide about to turn for the residents of this building?

0:06:57 > 0:07:01We find out later and follow another raid in a second flat

0:07:01 > 0:07:03in the same blighted block.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07- Police!- Police!

0:07:09 > 0:07:13Teenage drinking is a problem in the UK, with almost

0:07:13 > 0:07:18half of teenagers admitting to have tried alcohol before they are 16.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22And the problem, when it comes to girls,

0:07:22 > 0:07:25is feared to be escalating at an alarming rate,

0:07:25 > 0:07:29with teenage girls more likely to get drunk in the UK

0:07:29 > 0:07:31than almost anywhere else in the world.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35And it's a problem that can be found to strike at any time of day

0:07:35 > 0:07:36or night.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40We've had a report from a member of the public that there's

0:07:40 > 0:07:42a female laid out unconscious.

0:07:42 > 0:07:47PC Nikki Cammiss arrives at the scene, moments behind an ambulance.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50- Do you know her?- No.

0:07:50 > 0:07:51No grown woman.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55Unfortunately, this is a teenager, apparently out for the count.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Do you know where you are?

0:07:58 > 0:08:01As the paramedic checks her out, Nikki

0:08:01 > 0:08:05and her colleague Mark's mission is to get in touch with her family.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Quick search of Whisky One Five. She's approximately 14 years of age.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10Can you just run her through the system,

0:08:10 > 0:08:12see if we've got an address for her?

0:08:12 > 0:08:15But trying to find out where the girl lives proves to be

0:08:15 > 0:08:16an unexpected hurdle.

0:08:16 > 0:08:21- Where does she live? - I don't know. Somewhere like- BLEEP.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25Her mobile phone contents should be able to enlighten everyone.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27All that's needed is her password.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30What's the password for your phone?

0:08:30 > 0:08:33But the teenager seems way too far gone to assist the police.

0:08:35 > 0:08:40It's better out than in. Although the password remains elusive.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44It's important that a family member be found, otherwise the

0:08:44 > 0:08:47hospital won't be able to release her when she's ready to leave.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50One of her friends has a bit more light to shed on the situation.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53- So where does her mum live? - Her mum is in Leeds.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56And she now lives with her sister in Wansford.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58- Am I allowed to go with her? - Sorry, it's not my decision.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01It's up to them. Can you please try your phone again, please?

0:09:01 > 0:09:02Yeah, I will. Course I will.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05The trouble is, the battery's now gone down on her phone.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08I've left her for, like, half an hour, an hour...

0:09:08 > 0:09:11How can she be your best friend and you don't even know where she lives?

0:09:11 > 0:09:13No, right, we go to school together and that.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16She said that she were coming through on the train.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19So, that's what we've done, and then all of a sudden,

0:09:19 > 0:09:21she's turned out like this.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27I'm a police officer. I need to try and help you.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30I need you to tell me your pass number of your phone,

0:09:30 > 0:09:31so I can contact family.

0:09:31 > 0:09:35Is the girl capable of helping the police yet?

0:09:35 > 0:09:41What's your password for your phone? What's your password for your phone?

0:09:41 > 0:09:43MUMBLES Pardon?

0:09:43 > 0:09:46MUMBLES INCOHERENTLY

0:09:46 > 0:09:47How do you spell that?

0:09:49 > 0:09:52She was completely comatosed.

0:09:52 > 0:09:56She'd wet herself, she was that intoxicated,

0:09:56 > 0:10:00and just being constantly sick. She can't communicate with us at all.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02And at the minute,

0:10:02 > 0:10:06we're really struggling to find any family for her.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Her friends, her so-called friends, don't seem to know a lot about her.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13They go out drinking bottles and litres of cider,

0:10:13 > 0:10:17not realising the sort of effect it's going to have on them,

0:10:17 > 0:10:21thinking that they'll be OK, and it's the same for me,

0:10:21 > 0:10:26one minute, you feel fine, and the next minute, you're drunk.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30Back at the station, the girl's friends have vanished

0:10:30 > 0:10:33and it's left to Nikki to track down the teenager's home.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36Hiya, it's Nikki Cammiss, police officer. Hiya.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38I'm wanting to trace...

0:10:38 > 0:10:40We've had a log this evening with a young 14-year-old

0:10:40 > 0:10:44heavily intoxicated, that she's had to go to hospital.

0:10:44 > 0:10:45That'll be brilliant.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Thanks a lot. Bye.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51We ring the emergency duty team and it goes through to a call taker,

0:10:51 > 0:10:54she'll take the details and somebody will ring me back.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57See what they can find on their systems. Fingers crossed.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01The police track down the man who supplied the alcohol

0:11:01 > 0:11:05and he was fined £90 and given a penalty notice for disorder.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Police have raided a suspected crack house den

0:11:12 > 0:11:16and applied to the court to take possession of the flat.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21- Police!- Police!- I'll say what I want, when I- BLEEP- want!

0:11:21 > 0:11:25Has the tenant persuaded the judge that the seizure isn't justified,

0:11:25 > 0:11:29or will the police be able to close it down and put a stop

0:11:29 > 0:11:32to the antisocial behaviour that's ruining the lives of neighbours?

0:11:32 > 0:11:34Heading off to meet the tenants,

0:11:34 > 0:11:38the Neighbourhood Team are hoping to kill two birds with one stone and

0:11:38 > 0:11:42execute a second search warrant for another flat in the same building.

0:11:44 > 0:11:48The resident's determination to fight back has caught

0:11:48 > 0:11:52the imagination of both the local newspaper and the general press.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56A photographer from the local paper catches the action on today's

0:11:56 > 0:11:57new raid.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01- Police!- Police! Stay where you are!

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Clear. Clear.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Clear. Clear.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12Clear.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17It's not in there.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26This time, nobody's at home, but with the telly on,

0:12:26 > 0:12:29it looks like somebody might just have made a quick getaway.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32- The bedroom... What else you got? - Bathroom.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34There's a kitchen off there. And that's your lot.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37Just a bedroom that's a bit of a state.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40Back at the first flat, it turns out that the tenant did not

0:12:40 > 0:12:43appear in court to fight the seizure of his property.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47With the matter uncontested, the police can evict the man

0:12:47 > 0:12:49and take control of the property,

0:12:49 > 0:12:53bringing the curtains down on its unsavoury life as a crack house.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55KNOCKS ON DOOR

0:12:55 > 0:12:58As ever, though, nothing's quite as simple as it might be.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00You can't find the key?

0:13:00 > 0:13:02Don't worry, let me assist you, then.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07Do you want to move away from the door?

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Are you stood well away from it?

0:13:21 > 0:13:23- Hello, Mr- BLEEP.- Hello. - I spoke to you last night.

0:13:23 > 0:13:24- How are you? All right? - Yeah, not bad.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27I advised you to come to court this morning at ten o'clock.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30You didn't turn up. So the courts have heard it in your absence

0:13:30 > 0:13:33and we're now taking your flat into possession, all right?

0:13:33 > 0:13:36- Now it becomes the possession of Humberside Police.- Right. OK.

0:13:36 > 0:13:38- Do you understand that?- Yeah, right.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40Now you're being served with a notice

0:13:40 > 0:13:43and we'll escort you from the premises and we'll steel it back up.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45- Do you understand that?- Yeah.- OK.

0:13:45 > 0:13:50This flat has been used mainly as a place to go and shoot up the drugs.

0:13:50 > 0:13:54They'll go to the flats higher up the building, get the drugs,

0:13:54 > 0:13:58knock on this gent's door, he's quite welcoming, he lets them in,

0:13:58 > 0:14:02they go and inject and they go on their merry way again.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05Maybe do a bit of shoplifting to fund the next hit.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08Quite a lot of the street drinkers used to come here,

0:14:08 > 0:14:11sell their stolen goods.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14Quite a den of iniquity, really, or it was.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16- Are you done with this now?- Yeah.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19Would you like to follow us this way and we'll...

0:14:19 > 0:14:22The police will now try to assist the man in seeking the support

0:14:22 > 0:14:26of drug services with a view to him being helped and rehoused.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30One crack house down, one to go.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32There's not actually drugs there,

0:14:32 > 0:14:36it's just how sensitive their noses are, picking things up.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40The second flat is littered with yet more drug taking paraphernalia.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45Basically they use liquid in there... They have...

0:14:45 > 0:14:49They put something on the top, cos there's something missing from that.

0:14:49 > 0:14:50And then they tug on that.

0:14:50 > 0:14:55It changes substance in the water, I suppose, and they smoke it.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57No added sugar, that's the healthy option!

0:14:57 > 0:15:00Successfully closing one crack house

0:15:00 > 0:15:03and raiding another sends a strong message that this

0:15:03 > 0:15:07kind of antisocial behaviour will no longer be tolerated.

0:15:07 > 0:15:11Neither male was arrested, as no drugs were found on the premises.

0:15:11 > 0:15:16Despite no drugs being found, drugs paraphernalia, dealing bags

0:15:16 > 0:15:20and scales were found throughout the flat, which gave the police

0:15:20 > 0:15:24power to close it down as a crack house and the tenants were evicted.

0:15:29 > 0:15:34Antisocial behaviour caused by teenagers used to account for

0:15:34 > 0:15:37almost a third of complaints received on Humberside,

0:15:37 > 0:15:40but hard work and tough action has seen this figure drop dramatically,

0:15:40 > 0:15:44but there will always be a handful of youths

0:15:44 > 0:15:47looking to break the law and sometimes run from it.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52Off-road motorbikes raced around wastelands

0:15:52 > 0:15:56and backstreets are a noisy and dangerous nuisance.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00The team have taken several calls from neighbours who have

0:16:00 > 0:16:01reported seeing a teenager

0:16:01 > 0:16:06tearing around the streets on a scrambler, not wearing a helmet.

0:16:06 > 0:16:11Sam Chandler and Jackie Creasy are on their way to investigate.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14There's a possible stolen motorbike just on Chomley Street,

0:16:14 > 0:16:19Bachelor Street area, which is the area we're just coming into.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Apparently there's a male on the bike, not wearing a helmet,

0:16:22 > 0:16:25so we're just going to see whether we can find it

0:16:25 > 0:16:29and maybe identify who the person is on the bike.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Yeah, we can hear the bike now.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34The sound of the bike engine can be heard in the distance

0:16:34 > 0:16:38and Sam and Jackie pick up the pace and head in its direction.

0:16:38 > 0:16:42- They spot the bike and the lad and call him over.- Stop where you are.

0:16:42 > 0:16:46Stop where you are! Stop where you are.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54Right, just come over here, please.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57With the boy dismounted, Sam sets about getting his details.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01He doesn't seem to be worried that he's in hot water with the police,

0:17:01 > 0:17:05only what's going to happen to the bike.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08Don't know yet. Got to do some checks on you.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10For a start, you've got no helmet on.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14- Sam breaks him the bad news. - Looks like it's going to be seized.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19Papa Victor Three Three Two XH.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22The call is put in for a van to be brought to the scene

0:17:22 > 0:17:26so the bike can be impounded, but there's another problem.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30None of the details the boy is giving the police are marrying up.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32A small group of boys has gathered to watch

0:17:32 > 0:17:36what could be about to turn into an arrest.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40Their presence provides the distraction the lad thinks he needs

0:17:40 > 0:17:43and he legs it from the police.

0:17:43 > 0:17:47Sam and Jackie give chase, but the light-footed lad is gone for dust.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52And they get more bad news over the radio.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55One of the onlookers has decided to take the seized motorcycle

0:17:55 > 0:17:57for themselves.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01Scouring the streets, they ask passer-bys

0:18:01 > 0:18:03if they've seen the young fugitive.

0:18:03 > 0:18:07- Up there.- A kid in a blue top?- But there's a small piece of good news.

0:18:07 > 0:18:10The bike has been picked up by another police officer

0:18:10 > 0:18:15on patrol, along with the man who took it.

0:18:15 > 0:18:19He was just here with the bike when I got here, but...

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Can't see. Yeah, think so.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Now Sam has had time to catch her breath,

0:18:25 > 0:18:27she reflects on just what happened.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30This is the guy that took the bike, yeah.

0:18:30 > 0:18:32This isn't the runner, the one that was on the bike originally

0:18:32 > 0:18:36made off down Queensgate Street. I've got all of his details.

0:18:36 > 0:18:40Whilst I was waiting for a patrol, he decided to do a runner

0:18:40 > 0:18:43and this guy that was stood talking to us,

0:18:43 > 0:18:45he was with somebody else, and together,

0:18:45 > 0:18:48they obviously took the bike and went off in the opposite direction.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51Have you done a check on the bike yet?

0:18:51 > 0:18:53Not on the bike, I've got no VRM, or anything.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55I've done a check on the person with the bike.

0:18:55 > 0:18:59He's got no licence, no driving insurance, he had no helmet on.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01So I've got all his details.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04The man in the car has plenty to say,

0:19:04 > 0:19:07but none of it is much use to the police investigation.

0:19:07 > 0:19:13- Just keep your hands still.- Hey! I know who it was, but I'm no grass!

0:19:13 > 0:19:16I ain't no grass. Aren't going to grass them up, am I?

0:19:16 > 0:19:20He was in one of them back gardens when we both ran.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22- I just ran, cos I thought,- BLEEP...

0:19:22 > 0:19:25As more officers arrive on the scene, Sam provides them

0:19:25 > 0:19:28with all the information she's gathered on the lad who ran away,

0:19:28 > 0:19:31so that they can go to his home and arrest him.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33Obviously, this one has been detained,

0:19:33 > 0:19:36and he was the one that took the bike, apparently.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38- What an idiot.- It's great, isn't it?

0:19:38 > 0:19:42We're going to do some further checks, see whether the bike's been stolen or not.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44And, at the minute,

0:19:44 > 0:19:47we're just waiting for recovery of the motorbike, so it'll get taken to

0:19:47 > 0:19:51a recovery agent and then we'll get VIB to look at the bike as well.

0:19:51 > 0:19:55No charges have been brought against those involved in the incident

0:19:55 > 0:19:58but police have stepped up patrols to ensure motorcycle menaces

0:19:58 > 0:20:01are kept off the roads and the pavements.

0:20:05 > 0:20:09It's every parent's greatest nightmare for a child to go missing,

0:20:09 > 0:20:12and the Neighbourhood Team are always quick to respond to

0:20:12 > 0:20:16any call from a worried mother about the whereabouts of their child.

0:20:18 > 0:20:23More than 100,000 teenagers under 16 run away from home every year.

0:20:23 > 0:20:27Many do so after experiencing problems at home or at school.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31Whilst most return safely, others take to living on the streets

0:20:31 > 0:20:35and are subjected to all the dangers inherent in doing so.

0:20:35 > 0:20:39Today, in Hull city centre, the Neighbourhood Team have taken

0:20:39 > 0:20:42a call from a worried mum whose 15-year-old daughter

0:20:42 > 0:20:45has failed to return home after leaving the previous night.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48The girl has a history of running away

0:20:48 > 0:20:51but, this time, Mum is worried that the situation may be more serious.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55We was dispatched to an address on Melrose Street just to do

0:20:55 > 0:20:59an address check for a missing 15-year-old girl.

0:20:59 > 0:21:02Jason has worked this patch of the city since he joined the force

0:21:02 > 0:21:06eight years ago, so has developed good links with the community

0:21:06 > 0:21:08who he hopes can help him with his search.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10I like to be known.

0:21:10 > 0:21:15I go into the local school, I'm known as PC Jason there.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19Whenever they see me walking past, when they're in playtime,

0:21:19 > 0:21:22they come running to the gate, shouting my name.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26And a lot of the adults, when they ring up with a problem,

0:21:26 > 0:21:29a lot of the time they will quote that they know me

0:21:29 > 0:21:31and specifically ask for me to go around and try and help them...

0:21:31 > 0:21:33help them deal with their problem.

0:21:33 > 0:21:37His contacts in the neighbourhood have told Jason that the girl

0:21:37 > 0:21:39is hiding out at a friend's home.

0:21:39 > 0:21:43On arriving at the house, Jason doesn't expect his knock at the door

0:21:43 > 0:21:45to see the girl come out and greet him like this.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49Now, then, coming back?

0:21:51 > 0:21:53Despite the girl's protests,

0:21:53 > 0:21:56Jason is determined to return the girl to her worried mother.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58Let's go jump in the van and we'll take you home.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01- I'm not sitting in the back. - I'm going to take you home,

0:22:01 > 0:22:04just so she knows that you are safe.

0:22:04 > 0:22:05And then can you drop me off?

0:22:05 > 0:22:08Well, we're not a taxi, are we?

0:22:09 > 0:22:12- Just one minute.- These are the dog ones, these ones, aren't they?

0:22:12 > 0:22:14All right?

0:22:18 > 0:22:24- We've got- BLEEP- on board, but again she's asking not to be returned home.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27She's asking if she can be dropped off at St Stephen's

0:22:27 > 0:22:30and just let her mum know that she's safe and well.

0:22:30 > 0:22:35Whilst the girl may seem totally unfazed by the situation,

0:22:35 > 0:22:37as Jason arrives at the family home,

0:22:37 > 0:22:40for Mum, it's a totally different story.

0:22:40 > 0:22:44- I've got your daughter on board. - Thank you.- It's all right, relax.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47- Is she safe?- She's safe. - Nothing's happened to her, has it?

0:22:47 > 0:22:51No, she's absolutely fine. She's her normal self.

0:22:51 > 0:22:53The girl's mother hasn't slept all night

0:22:53 > 0:22:56worrying about the whereabouts of her daughter.

0:22:56 > 0:22:57I just can't get a grip of her.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00I mean, she's not abused, she's not neglected.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03She was saying she wanted to go stay with her uncle or something

0:23:03 > 0:23:06- last time I was with her. - She knows she's in trouble.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09It's now time for Steve to take the girl in.

0:23:15 > 0:23:16Let's go inside.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23- Mum, please. - Let's go in and talk to your mum.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26The team now decide it's time to give the girl a good talking to,

0:23:26 > 0:23:30not only to highlight the stress she's causing her mother,

0:23:30 > 0:23:32but also the dangers out there on the streets.

0:23:32 > 0:23:36My main concern is that once you're out there, at 15,

0:23:36 > 0:23:38you don't realise how dangerous it is.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40All sorts of things can happen to you out there, all right?

0:23:40 > 0:23:42Not a problem.

0:23:43 > 0:23:46On returning to the station, Steve reflects on the problems that

0:23:46 > 0:23:49families face when it comes to youngsters running away.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51It would appear that...

0:23:52 > 0:23:56- ..BLEEP's- got some friends who are of a similar mind,

0:23:56 > 0:24:00and they're basically going to other people's flats and houses,

0:24:00 > 0:24:02missing appointments for school,

0:24:02 > 0:24:07just generally not adhering to... some sort of regime, shall I say.

0:24:09 > 0:24:11And that was basically debrief.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13She's deposited safe and well with Mam now.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17The Neighbourhood Team will continue to provide the family with support

0:24:17 > 0:24:19and be on hand should they experience

0:24:19 > 0:24:21any problems in the future.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23All in all, quite a good morning.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Whenever teenage lads pass their driving test

0:24:30 > 0:24:33and win the right to their first set of car keys, the police can be

0:24:33 > 0:24:37sure to always find a few looking to show off to their friends.

0:24:37 > 0:24:41Over in Humberside, a clamp-down has seen these hot rodders

0:24:41 > 0:24:43all but driven from the roads.

0:24:43 > 0:24:47But this doesn't mean that some lads wouldn't go to any lengths to find

0:24:47 > 0:24:51a patch of land to show off their driving skills, or lack of them.

0:24:51 > 0:24:53Tonight, Richard Bastiman and is making a drive-by

0:24:53 > 0:24:57of a well-known spot that boy racers are known to frequent.

0:24:57 > 0:25:00When he sees a set of headlights on getting out of his car,

0:25:00 > 0:25:02his suspicions are confirmed.

0:25:02 > 0:25:06There's a lad in a motor down there, but he's not burning rubber.

0:25:06 > 0:25:07He's stuck in the mud.

0:25:07 > 0:25:10- Is this the road?- No.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13- Whose car is it?- Mine.

0:25:13 > 0:25:17- Yours?- Yeah.- Just... Just put it through the system.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20The car licence plates are run through the police computer

0:25:20 > 0:25:24whilst Richard takes a closer look. But it's slippery going underfoot.

0:25:24 > 0:25:26- My God! - Yeah, I wouldn't go down there!

0:25:29 > 0:25:31So, have you caused all of this, then?

0:25:31 > 0:25:33No, as I say, that was there before.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38This isn't the first time a car's fought a losing battle here,

0:25:38 > 0:25:41as plenty of other churned up tracks indicate.

0:25:41 > 0:25:43I'll be straight with you. The problem you've got is,

0:25:43 > 0:25:46and I appreciate your vehicle's stuck,

0:25:46 > 0:25:50but, you know, you've been technically causing harassment and

0:25:50 > 0:25:54distress with your vehicle by doing whatever you've been doing on here.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57- You shouldn't be on here.- Yeah, I know. I mean, now I wish I weren't.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00This is a place where people come to walk their dog.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03It's not appropriate for doing stuff like this.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06What I was doing was, I was doing a bit of light off-roading.

0:26:06 > 0:26:10And I came over here, I see this hill,

0:26:10 > 0:26:14I tried to get out and it's just a bit too boggy, really.

0:26:14 > 0:26:18The car got stuck. We've been here a good hour just trying to get it out.

0:26:18 > 0:26:21And you guys came along, thought you could save us and...

0:26:22 > 0:26:24Apparently not.

0:26:24 > 0:26:27Right, I'm going to need to speak to you in my car.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30And any thoughts he had about the police coming to his rescue

0:26:30 > 0:26:34are dispelled when he's asked to step inside the police car.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36The lad could see himself charged with what's known as

0:26:36 > 0:26:40antisocial driving behaviour, which could lead to points, or even a ban.

0:26:40 > 0:26:44I'm now going to report you for being off-road in a vehicle

0:26:44 > 0:26:47and any other offences disclosed, do you understand?

0:26:51 > 0:26:55I don't want to be harsh with you, but, you know... It's a bit silly.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57A formal warning will be issued tomorrow

0:26:57 > 0:27:00when a proper interview can take place.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03The challenge now, however, is getting the car back on the road.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06The only car that drove past in the hour was a police car.

0:27:06 > 0:27:09And to do this, he needs to put in the call to someone

0:27:09 > 0:27:11who's none too happy with the news.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16Someone arrives on the scene with a 4x4 and a tow rope to haul

0:27:16 > 0:27:19the boys' wheels from the mud and onto the road.

0:27:26 > 0:27:28ENGINE REVS

0:27:31 > 0:27:34The car may be out of the mud but, for the lad,

0:27:34 > 0:27:36he's not out of trouble.

0:27:36 > 0:27:39When he gets home, he not only has to face the music,

0:27:39 > 0:27:44but he also gets another visit from the Neighbourhood Police Team.

0:27:44 > 0:27:48Obviously you were off-roading, so that is part of the section 59.

0:27:50 > 0:27:55It goes on the system for a year against you and the vehicle.

0:27:56 > 0:27:58If you were to drive like that again,

0:27:58 > 0:28:01we do have the power to seize your vehicle.

0:28:02 > 0:28:05If you sign there, we'll give you a copy of that.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09But the police are satisfied that the message has gotten through

0:28:09 > 0:28:12to the lad, and he's sure to be more responsible

0:28:12 > 0:28:15when he gets behind the wheel of his vehicle next time.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17By the look of him, I think he's...

0:28:17 > 0:28:21he's had a right good telling off from his mum as well.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23So I don't think he'll be doing that again.
