0:00:40 > 0:00:41Hey!

0:00:43 > 0:00:45In this new series of Neighbourhood Blues,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47we go to the Humberside Police region

0:01:30 > 0:01:34The team track down the teenage street drinkers.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37- What have you been drinking? - Just one beer.- Beers.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38GLASS SHATTERS

0:01:38 > 0:01:41The operation to wipe out drug dealers

0:01:41 > 0:01:43working from their sofas picks up pace.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46If you went pointing that at an armed police officer,

0:01:46 > 0:01:50- you'd probably get yourself shot.- And in a bid to curb house burglaries,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52the team show support and offer advice.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56So next time I'm in the area, I'll just pop in, see how you're doing.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Criminals don't just steal from other people's houses.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Many, like drug-dealers, run their criminal operations

0:02:05 > 0:02:08from the comfort of their own homes.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12These so-called "sofa dealers" cause great distress to local residents

0:02:12 > 0:02:15living on the same street as them.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18All over the Humberside Police region,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21the neighbourhood teams are cracking down on drug dealers.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24The thought of a dealer on the doorstep worries people nationwide.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26I would be quite wary of, perhaps,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28especially if you sort of thought

0:02:28 > 0:02:30someone you knew, that lived close by to you,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33was growing their own drugs or making their own drugs.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36It would be quite, I'd feel, an uncomfortable environment to be in.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41The team recently launched a strike against a crack dealer

0:02:41 > 0:02:42that saw three people arrested

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and cash, drugs and weapons confiscated.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Today, again acting on intelligence passed to neighbourhood officers

0:02:53 > 0:02:55by worried residents,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57the team are hitting another suspected dealing den

0:02:57 > 0:02:59on a local housing estate.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07The team tool up and make final plans for their strike.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09One in, two in, three in, four in.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12It'll be your side, won't it, Will?

0:03:12 > 0:03:15No, no, it's your side. I'll go in nose-in.

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Key! Key!

0:03:36 > 0:03:39- Get in!- Police! Stand still!

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Stand still! Stand still!

0:03:43 > 0:03:45Sweeping through the property,

0:03:45 > 0:03:47the occupants are quickly found in their bedroom.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Sergeant Coffey breaks the news

0:03:49 > 0:03:52that they have been raided on suspicion of drug dealing.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54- Have we got everyone detained?- Yeah.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Just so you know, my name's Sergeant Coffey.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59We have a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant for this premises.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02You're being detained for the purposes of search

0:04:02 > 0:04:04in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06The living room is subjected to a thorough search.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10Once completed, the suspect will be moved there for questioning.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12With the living room coming up clean,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15the man is brought in to be spoken to.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18I'll ask you separately while the lady's here...

0:04:18 > 0:04:21but obviously we have a Misuse of Drugs Act search,

0:04:21 > 0:04:23we will conduct a thorough search of the property.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25Is there anything at this time that you want to declare

0:04:25 > 0:04:28that you believe might be illegal or be concerning

0:04:28 > 0:04:32that might affect yourself or your partner if you're responsible for it?

0:04:32 > 0:04:34There's some cannabis.

0:04:34 > 0:04:35- Some cannabis?- Yeah.

0:04:35 > 0:04:36Whereabouts is that?

0:04:41 > 0:04:44- Just point to it.- Whereabouts?

0:04:44 > 0:04:47- In there.- Which drawer? This one here?- Yeah.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51OK, there's some small amounts of cannabis and other items there.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53You do not have to say anything, but you may harm your defence

0:04:53 > 0:04:56if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court,

0:04:56 > 0:04:58and anything you do say may be given in evidence.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01- Whose are those items you've declared to me?- The cannabis is mine.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04The cannabis is yours. There's a white powder there too.

0:05:04 > 0:05:05I don't know what the hell that is.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09The suspect informs the police of a serious medical condition,

0:05:09 > 0:05:12and asks them to get his medicine.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14It'll be the wrong one, whichever one I...

0:05:14 > 0:05:18I've got Warfarin here and Sotalol, is that what you take?

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Call the medical examiner if need be

0:05:20 > 0:05:22in terms of being allowed to have that medicine,

0:05:22 > 0:05:24- but it is prescribed to him. - Yeah, all right.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26After finding the prescription drugs,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30the police need to check with the man's GP before handing them over.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34Is there anything that's particularly sentimental or important to you,

0:05:34 > 0:05:38so that when we're searching I can make sure we take good care of it

0:05:38 > 0:05:40and we don't cause any damage?

0:05:40 > 0:05:42Er...everything.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44OK, if you don't want to co-operate with us...

0:05:44 > 0:05:47After initially co-operating with the police and answering questions,

0:05:47 > 0:05:50the man decides to stop talking.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52This leads to him being escorted from the house to the custody suite

0:05:52 > 0:05:55to be interviewed.

0:05:55 > 0:05:56BLEEPED SPEECH

0:05:56 > 0:06:00Find out later, when the cops send in the dogs,

0:06:00 > 0:06:03if Buster's powerful nose can track down

0:06:03 > 0:06:05the suspected drug dealer's booty.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15In Britain, we like to think that our homes are our very own castles,

0:06:15 > 0:06:18but unfortunately, in the past year, there's been a dramatic rise

0:06:18 > 0:06:21in the number of house burglaries in the UK.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Humberside hasn't escaped unscathed,

0:06:23 > 0:06:27but the neighbourhood teams have been fast to react.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31Last year, almost a million homes suffered a break-in,

0:06:31 > 0:06:35making it nationwide one of the worst years on record for house burglary.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37I was burgled at my own home.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39I've got to say, that was extremely scary at the time.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43I had to move house, because I never settled after that,

0:06:43 > 0:06:47but the process that happened after the burglary when it was reported,

0:06:47 > 0:06:49the police were just wonderful.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51The support that they gave me,

0:06:51 > 0:06:55and they really, sort of, made sure that the property was secure,

0:06:55 > 0:06:57and I was very grateful for that at the time.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03Neighbourhood teams always provide reassurance and support following a burglary,

0:07:03 > 0:07:05and over in Scunthorpe, Claire is on the phone

0:07:05 > 0:07:08to a pensioner who suffered a recent break-in.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12Are you in this afternoon for a visit?

0:07:12 > 0:07:15You are? Brilliant. I'll see you within the next hour, then.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17Every PCSO has their own patch,

0:07:17 > 0:07:20approximately four miles square.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24Walking their beat every day, they become a familiar face to residents,

0:07:24 > 0:07:28and often the first point of contact if there's a problem.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30This is an elderly gentleman, in his eighties,

0:07:30 > 0:07:35who's woke up to find someone's attempted to break into his workshop.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37We're just going to go to give him

0:07:37 > 0:07:40a bit of crime prevention advice and reassurance.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42- Hello, is it Mr- BLEEP?

0:07:42 > 0:07:46- Yes.- It's regarding your attempted break-in.- Ooh, that's quick.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48The victim takes Claire to the spot

0:07:48 > 0:07:51where the burglars tried to gain entry.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54This is a new lock I've put on, right?

0:07:54 > 0:07:58Now, on Thursday, this was hung down here.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01- Right.- They smashed it off, I've got the old one in there.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05It must have been very amateurish

0:08:05 > 0:08:09because having got the lock off there, they could open that...

0:08:09 > 0:08:12- Yeah.- Why were they trying to get that off?

0:08:12 > 0:08:15The garage is full of expensive machinery.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19Old wood-turning lathe, you see,

0:08:19 > 0:08:22- a bandsaw...- Right.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24I do wood-carving as a hobby, so...

0:08:24 > 0:08:25Do you? What do you make?

0:08:25 > 0:08:29- Hmm? I'll show you when we go inside.- Brilliant!

0:08:30 > 0:08:34Most burglaries are by criminals looking to steal possessions

0:08:34 > 0:08:35to sell on and fund drug habits.

0:08:35 > 0:08:40Nothing is sacred or no-one is safe from these types of law-breakers.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42I would maybe suggest covering your windows up.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45Yeah, that's... Somebody said that yesterday.

0:08:45 > 0:08:49- I've got plenty of old curtains. We could soon rig something up.- Yeah.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51To prevent him becoming a target again,

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Claire offers some advice.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55- You've done right in double... - Double-nutting.

0:08:55 > 0:09:00..nutting those, and you've got all your locks and your hasp over.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03The only thing you could maybe get is an alarm.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06It's not... It's more of...

0:09:06 > 0:09:09You can get them just from your local DIY store,

0:09:09 > 0:09:11and it just sits,

0:09:11 > 0:09:16and when the seal's broken, it's like a kind of window lock.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19You can get those, and they're not that expensive,

0:09:19 > 0:09:22so that if someone did get in your garage and open the door,

0:09:22 > 0:09:24it would break that circuit

0:09:24 > 0:09:27and obviously raise your attention and your neighbours'.

0:09:27 > 0:09:32These kind of crime tips help make residents crime-conscious

0:09:32 > 0:09:34and help to deter burglars,

0:09:34 > 0:09:37and Claire's got herself one very satisfied customer.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40- There's your crime number and that's my name. My name's Claire.- Right.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44And that's my direct mobile number if you should have any problems.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46So any problems or advice, yeah.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49And next time I'm in the area, I'll just pop in, see how you're doing.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52- Yes, no worries.- And see how you are, keep you company for a bit.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55- You can have a cup of coffee. - Oh, brilliant.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Or something stronger if you like.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01- And a biscuit?- And a biscuit. - Oh, that's it, I'm coming!

0:10:01 > 0:10:04All right, make sure all your gates and your doors are locked.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06I'm impressed with the service

0:10:06 > 0:10:08because people have said, "Have you reported it?"

0:10:08 > 0:10:11"Yeah, I've got a crime number." "Oh, you know, that's all..."

0:10:11 > 0:10:15- No, we like...- I'll tell them, "No, this time it was spot on."

0:10:15 > 0:10:17See you later. Bye-bye.

0:10:17 > 0:10:22Since the initiative to reduce burglaries in the region began,

0:10:22 > 0:10:24break-ins have fallen by over a third.

0:10:29 > 0:10:30As we've already seen,

0:10:30 > 0:10:34fear of burglary is a major concern to most people,

0:10:34 > 0:10:37but properties are vulnerable in other ways,

0:10:37 > 0:10:40to crimes such as vandalism and squatting.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43Reports of squatting have doubled in the past two years,

0:10:43 > 0:10:45and in Hull city centre,

0:10:45 > 0:10:47the police are investigating reports from local residents

0:10:47 > 0:10:50that squatters have turned an abandoned pub into a drugs den.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53It appears that there may be somebody squatting.

0:10:53 > 0:10:57There's fresh signs, such as food and stuff lying about.

0:10:57 > 0:11:02Even though the police haven't found anyone camped out at the old pub,

0:11:02 > 0:11:03it remains a trouble trap,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06so they'll be making sure that the owners securely board it up.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10Over on the other side of town,

0:11:10 > 0:11:15Sergeant Steve Lamb is out and about in the city centre.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17The team have upped their patrols in the area

0:11:17 > 0:11:21to make sure the shopping district remains a family-friendly place,

0:11:21 > 0:11:22free of crime.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Something that shoppers and shop workers

0:11:25 > 0:11:28often complain to the neighbourhood teams about

0:11:28 > 0:11:30is people begging in the city centre.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33When Steve spots a homeless man who he suspects may be looking to beg,

0:11:33 > 0:11:35he acts firmly but fairly.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Just a quick check. If there's nothing outstanding,

0:11:37 > 0:11:39I'll have a quick word and then you can be on your way.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42- OK, mate?- Yeah.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44Three-zero, I'm on Silver Street.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47Can you oblige me with a person check, please? I have tried PNC.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49Just whilst I'm waiting for that,

0:11:49 > 0:11:52- where you living at the minute? - Wherever I can get my head down.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56- Staying in a friend's tent sometimes.- Mate, obviously,

0:11:56 > 0:11:57it's cold, I appreciate that.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01You are living a bit rough, but you can't sit down and beg in the street.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05- I've not asked anyone for anything. - I haven't said I've seen you begging

0:12:05 > 0:12:07but you're also out there with your blanket and your kit,

0:12:07 > 0:12:11so do me a favour, mate. Obviously at this time of year, officers are out,

0:12:11 > 0:12:14they will challenge you. Just... look after yourself, all right?

0:12:14 > 0:12:17- OK, no problem.- Take care, thanks for your time. Thank you.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20As the man moves on, Steve reflects on his predicament.

0:12:20 > 0:12:25I mean, I've got no doubt that he was setting himself up to beg,

0:12:25 > 0:12:29without any question, but obviously, living rough, isn't he?

0:12:29 > 0:12:32Shaking, obviously alcohol, I think would be the issue there,

0:12:32 > 0:12:34but he was decent enough.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35Further down the road,

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Steve comes across another homeless man.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41This time he's not begging, but street drinking in an area

0:12:41 > 0:12:44where consuming alcohol in public is banned.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47You know you can't sit here and drink beer, don't you?

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Just a minute, just before you go,

0:12:51 > 0:12:53I won't take your sealed ones off you.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Just have a quick look at them, mate.

0:12:55 > 0:12:56It's all right, OK, mate.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59Can you do me a favour, will you put that empty can in your bag

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- and pop it in the bin for me when we get off?- I don't mind.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05We'll be two minutes and then you can be on your way. Obviously,

0:13:05 > 0:13:08you know you shouldn't be sat here drinking beer. You know that, yeah?

0:13:08 > 0:13:11OK, mate, you can get off. All the best.

0:13:11 > 0:13:15Steve doesn't confiscate his alcohol on this occasion,

0:13:15 > 0:13:18but warns the man off and moves him on.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22As Steve continues his patrol, he comes across another problem.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25Three-zero, I'm on George Street, Grimston Street.

0:13:25 > 0:13:27I've just come across a vehicle

0:13:27 > 0:13:30that's got the front passenger window smashed.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32It bears all the hallmarks of a theft from.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34Can I pass you some details?

0:13:34 > 0:13:38It would appear, initially, that there are no suspects or witnesses.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41I'll just see if I've got sufficient for crime details

0:13:41 > 0:13:43and I'll add those to the log.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46The downside is, that's the only reason somebody's broken the window,

0:13:46 > 0:13:49because they've seen your mobile phone in there.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51- I know.- I'm going to pop back to the office now,

0:13:51 > 0:13:54I'll get it crimed and I'll give you a bell.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56Whilst Steve continues being a bobby on the beat,

0:13:56 > 0:14:00the team who were earlier securing the derelict pub

0:14:00 > 0:14:03have already been tasked to their next job.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05We're on Prospect Street now, ready.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07We've got a team of three ready for you.

0:14:07 > 0:14:10They're responding to a call in a shopping precinct

0:14:10 > 0:14:13about three men acting suspiciously,

0:14:13 > 0:14:16the concern being they may be looking to shoplift.

0:14:16 > 0:14:17Retail theft costs the UK

0:14:17 > 0:14:21approximately £1 billion a year in lost earnings.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23The men who have been apprehended

0:14:23 > 0:14:26are in a store in the city's main shopping precinct.

0:14:26 > 0:14:30They were spotted by the in-store CCTV cameras,

0:14:30 > 0:14:32acting suspiciously in the aisles.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34The team take the suspects' details

0:14:34 > 0:14:38whilst they try to get to the bottom of what has, or has not, happened.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40Yeah, we've got three, we're talking at the moment.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43To avoid causing alarm to other shoppers,

0:14:43 > 0:14:46one of the men is taken to a detention room

0:14:46 > 0:14:48in the back of the shopping precinct.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51The police give the low-down on what they have found out so far.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54The other two lads, they're with the male

0:14:54 > 0:14:57that they've got in the detention room at the minute.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00Checks have been completed on the other two.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Although they were in company with him,

0:15:02 > 0:15:05they've not actually committed any offences as such.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07Cos they've not done anything, we sent them on their way.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09They've been banned from the store.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Do you understand what I'm saying?

0:15:11 > 0:15:13Well, go back to wherever you're going,

0:15:13 > 0:15:14don't be going round the shops

0:15:14 > 0:15:17because it's obvious what you're up to and everyone's watching you,

0:15:17 > 0:15:21so if you're out trying to commit further thefts,

0:15:21 > 0:15:24you won't be very successful and you'll end up in the cells.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27With the man released with a warning, the team explain

0:15:27 > 0:15:31why they had reasonable grounds to detain him in the first place.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33We know he was going to attempt to leave.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36He didn't have enough money to pay for what was in his basket,

0:15:36 > 0:15:39but we'd rather get in there and prevent the crime from happening

0:15:39 > 0:15:44than sit there and basically witness the commission of an offence.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47It's... He's in there, we've sent a message out to him

0:15:47 > 0:15:49that we're aware of him, we know what he's doing

0:15:49 > 0:15:51and he's not welcome in the city centre.

0:15:51 > 0:15:53For the neighbourhood team,

0:15:53 > 0:15:57warning people off committing an offence carries greater rewards

0:15:57 > 0:16:00than having to chase down a criminal and catch him in the act.

0:16:05 > 0:16:09Over a quarter of all calls the neighbourhood team receives

0:16:09 > 0:16:12relates to anti-social behaviour caused by youths.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15In Humberside, the police are always looking for new ways

0:16:15 > 0:16:17to put a stop to this problem.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21During the past three years,

0:16:21 > 0:16:24the number of teenagers who admit to drinking in public

0:16:24 > 0:16:25has soared to 70%.

0:16:25 > 0:16:28It's a growing problem across the country,

0:16:28 > 0:16:32and one the neighbourhood police teams are determined to stamp out.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34We did have it when the youngsters,

0:16:34 > 0:16:38there's a church next to us and they were sitting in the garden there

0:16:38 > 0:16:41- drinking and smashing bottles. - Oh, yeah.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44We did have that for a few months, the summer before last,

0:16:44 > 0:16:46but the police soon sorted that out as well.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49In Hull, they've started an initiative

0:16:49 > 0:16:52to keep teenagers away from booze and give them a place to hang out.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55The council, in partnership with the police,

0:16:55 > 0:16:58run a special alcohol-free club night.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01PC Alan Cowley and the team are tasked with making sure

0:17:01 > 0:17:04that no-one tries to get into the club already tanked up,

0:17:04 > 0:17:08and it's not long before they spot some potential trouble-makers.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11- All right, boys, what we up to? - Nothing. We're off in Pozition.

0:17:11 > 0:17:12You're off in Pozition, are you?

0:17:12 > 0:17:16You seem to be hiding on the benches away from me cos I was there.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18- We're waiting for his girlfriend. - Waiting for my mate.

0:17:18 > 0:17:21Waiting for your mate? He says you're waiting for his girlfriend.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23Are you? Where's she coming from, then?

0:17:23 > 0:17:26She's coming from, erm...

0:17:26 > 0:17:27her mam and dad's house.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30Coming from her mam and dad's house? All right, then.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32How much have you had to drink tonight?

0:17:32 > 0:17:35Alan is unconvinced. The lads look worse for wear,

0:17:35 > 0:17:38and he suspects they are heading to the under-18s' nightclub.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41You've either smoked something or had something to drink tonight.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43- No, I had a cig, that's it. - You had a cig?

0:17:43 > 0:17:47- What was in the cig? Anything that shouldn't be?- No.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49When you go to the door in there, they're going to breathalyse you.

0:17:49 > 0:17:53- All right, then. - We haven't had nowt to drink.

0:17:53 > 0:17:54Okey-dokey, then. So as I say...

0:17:54 > 0:17:57We're waiting here for his girlfriend cos she's got the tickets.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59You seem to be acting out the ordinary and keeping out my way.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01No, she's literally over there.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04- Have you started on a few?- What do you mean, "started on a few"?

0:18:04 > 0:18:06- (LAUGHS)- No, I haven't, no.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09- All right, mate, have a nice night. - See you later, cheers.

0:18:09 > 0:18:13Those lads go on their way quietly, but further down the street

0:18:13 > 0:18:15Alan spots a group of youths hanging around the club

0:18:15 > 0:18:19that he suspects haven't been drinking lemonade all night.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Just as we was approaching the club tonight,

0:18:23 > 0:18:25the three youngsters who I spoke to,

0:18:25 > 0:18:27I saw from a distance tossing aluminium cans away.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Get them picked up and pop them in the bin for me.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31- Will do.- Thank you.

0:18:31 > 0:18:34On speaking to them and asking them to pick the cans up,

0:18:34 > 0:18:39it was obvious their speeches were slurred and their eyes was glazed.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41How much have you been drinking tonight?

0:18:41 > 0:18:43- Nowt.- No alcohol whatsoever?

0:18:43 > 0:18:45- No.- Why's your speech slurred, then?

0:18:45 > 0:18:47- It ain't.- It was.

0:18:47 > 0:18:48They've been drinking alcohol.

0:18:48 > 0:18:52For that reason, I've asked them to leave the area tonight.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55If they go in the club in that manner, they could cause problems.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58What were you drinking? You've not just been drinking energy drinks.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00- No, nothing.- Nowt at all?

0:19:00 > 0:19:02You stink of it. What you been drinking?

0:19:02 > 0:19:05- Just the one beer.- Beers.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07- Just one.- One beers.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09How old are you both?

0:19:09 > 0:19:11- Age?- 16.- 16.

0:19:11 > 0:19:12- 17.- 17.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14- 16.- 16.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17You're not going in here tonight, boys,

0:19:17 > 0:19:19because you've been drinking on the streets.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21You've had that energy drink, that's not just energy,

0:19:21 > 0:19:25I can tell by your eyes and the state of your speech, OK?

0:19:25 > 0:19:29So what I'm going to do is ask you all to leave the city centre

0:19:29 > 0:19:31- and not come back here tonight. - All right.

0:19:31 > 0:19:35If you don't do that, I'm going to issue you with a Section 27 notice

0:19:35 > 0:19:37which'll order you to do it, and if you come back then

0:19:37 > 0:19:40or refuse to leave, you'll end up getting arrested.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43I'll not take that option at first, I'll ask you to leave the area.

0:19:43 > 0:19:45All right? So you go and you don't come in here tonight.

0:19:47 > 0:19:49Thank you very much.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53One of the lads Alan sent on his way

0:19:53 > 0:19:56was just heard shouting abuse back at the police.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58Alan goes to check if he's still around.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01Just to make sure he goes. If he carries on playing the clown,

0:20:01 > 0:20:03I'll lock him up for drunk and disorderly.

0:20:03 > 0:20:05If he goes home and takes my advice, that's OK.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08They took the option of running off up the street,

0:20:08 > 0:20:11so that'll solve that problem for tonight.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14The lads getting sent on their way

0:20:14 > 0:20:17sends a warning to the queue of over 100 teenagers

0:20:17 > 0:20:19that's building up outside the club.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22- Steady breath into there for me. - The place will be shut down

0:20:22 > 0:20:25if the no-alcohol ban is breached, and security teams stand on the door

0:20:25 > 0:20:27to spot-breathalyse everybody entering.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29It's preventative rather than reactive.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32We'd rather turn people away that have possibly had a drink

0:20:32 > 0:20:34zrather than get into fights later on

0:20:34 > 0:20:37and sort of criminalise themselves by getting arrested.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40It's easier to turn them away and turn them back into the care of adults, really.

0:20:42 > 0:20:46With incidents of teenagers drinking on the streets

0:20:46 > 0:20:49having almost halved in Hull, the initiative seems to be working,

0:20:49 > 0:20:52but the neighbourhood team always needs to be on hand

0:20:52 > 0:20:54to pick up the pieces when things go wrong,

0:20:54 > 0:20:56as we find out later.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02Coming up...

0:21:02 > 0:21:05Buster uses his crime-busting nose to sniff out a hidden stash.

0:21:06 > 0:21:08Don't be silly.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10And the classroom of children

0:21:10 > 0:21:13who get the chance to become young Sherlocks.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16We need to treat this very seriously

0:21:16 > 0:21:19because if me or PC Anderson go to a crime scene,

0:21:19 > 0:21:23we can't just mess about and laugh. We've got to treat it seriously.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33Earlier, a raid on a council estate

0:21:33 > 0:21:36saw two grandparents arrested,

0:21:36 > 0:21:39but so far, no hard evidence has been found,

0:21:39 > 0:21:42so it's time to send in the dogs.

0:21:42 > 0:21:43Earlier on, when we came in,

0:21:43 > 0:21:46he declared there was a bit of cannabis and that amphetamine

0:21:46 > 0:21:48that's been seized and taken over there,

0:21:48 > 0:21:51but the dog's been knocking really hard on this. It's got some bags,

0:21:51 > 0:21:54and did you get something else as well, Amanda? Or just...

0:21:54 > 0:21:56- That.- The little box...

0:21:56 > 0:21:59- All right, yeah.- ..with a little bit of amphetamine as well.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02But despite moving them, although it might just be residue left over,

0:22:02 > 0:22:04the dog's really interested in this area

0:22:04 > 0:22:06so we need to get stuck into that area.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10The systemic search of the house is a slow process,

0:22:10 > 0:22:14having to be all the more thorough because dealers are always coming up

0:22:14 > 0:22:16with new and imaginative ways to hide their stash.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19But the ever-eager Buster just keeps finding

0:22:19 > 0:22:21more and more mini-stashes.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Another tin of cannabis this time.

0:22:24 > 0:22:25Hang on.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28Downstairs, the police make a discovery

0:22:28 > 0:22:31that could place the suspects in even more hot water.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33When we first looked under this table,

0:22:33 > 0:22:35we looked up and wedged into the table,

0:22:35 > 0:22:38literally, so that if anyone was at this table, they could...

0:22:38 > 0:22:41It was hidden, but you could retrieve it from the table like that,

0:22:41 > 0:22:44which obviously, if confronted with somebody like that,

0:22:44 > 0:22:47would be very worrying. It turns out it's only a CO2 pistol,

0:22:47 > 0:22:50but it's the fact that obviously it's exceptionally realistic-looking,

0:22:50 > 0:22:53and if it was pointed at you, you would think

0:22:53 > 0:22:57you were being pointed at with, you know, a fully lethal weapon.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00As the high-low search of the house continues,

0:23:00 > 0:23:04in the kitchen, Sergeant Coffey finds another dangerous weapon.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06ELECTRICITY CRACKLES

0:23:06 > 0:23:09That's a home-made electrical taser device, basically.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11If you drove that into somebody, not only would they get

0:23:11 > 0:23:15the prongs sticking in their flesh, but it'd give an electrical shock,

0:23:15 > 0:23:17so that's actually a prohibited weapon.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20It's not as if they've made it out of curiosity,

0:23:20 > 0:23:22just to see if they could do one.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25It's attached to here, sat charging, ready.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28Hopefully, it'll fit into one of these.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31As drugs and weapons continue to be gathered as evidence,

0:23:31 > 0:23:33a visit from the local housing officer

0:23:33 > 0:23:35brings more bad news for the lady of the house,

0:23:35 > 0:23:38who remains under detention in the living room.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41- We'll be looking at serving notice on your property.- For what?

0:23:41 > 0:23:45Because obviously you're in breach of your tenancy agreement.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49You have been causing a nuisance, you have had complaints.

0:23:49 > 0:23:50From who?

0:23:50 > 0:23:53From people living around here.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55All right, we're walking out now.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58No longer wanting to speak to the police,

0:23:58 > 0:24:02the woman is now also taken to the station for formal questioning,

0:24:02 > 0:24:05but in the back garden, Buster is still going strong

0:24:05 > 0:24:08and has alerted the neighbourhood team to something suspicious

0:24:08 > 0:24:09hidden in the garden shed.

0:24:09 > 0:24:13I've just searched the shed. Buster was showing an interest in the shed,

0:24:13 > 0:24:15and in the top up here,

0:24:15 > 0:24:16there's been tucked that white block.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18It may or may not be amphetamine,

0:24:18 > 0:24:20but obviously the only way they'll know is testing it.

0:24:20 > 0:24:23His dog was indicating real high up in the shed out there.

0:24:23 > 0:24:24BUSTER BARKS

0:24:24 > 0:24:26He's obviously still barking, excited.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28He's found that hidden in the shed,

0:24:28 > 0:24:32in the area the dog was indicating. We're not 100% certain what it is,

0:24:32 > 0:24:35but there is a good possibility that it is amphetamine,

0:24:35 > 0:24:38and the only way to be absolutely certain is to take it to a lab

0:24:38 > 0:24:41and have it forensically tested, so that's the plan. Good find.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Couple of hundred quid there, won't there be?

0:24:47 > 0:24:49As the search continues, as well as drugs,

0:24:49 > 0:24:51more potential weapons are found.

0:24:51 > 0:24:53If you were carrying that on the street

0:24:53 > 0:24:56and your intention was to threaten somebody

0:24:56 > 0:24:58or to cause somebody distress with it,

0:24:58 > 0:25:00you would be committing a criminal offence,

0:25:00 > 0:25:02and of course people use this thing

0:25:02 > 0:25:05committing robberies and other such crimes,

0:25:05 > 0:25:07and drug dealers use them to threaten one another,

0:25:07 > 0:25:10because the weight and feel of that is very, very realistic

0:25:10 > 0:25:14and I think if you was to go pointing that at an armed police officer

0:25:14 > 0:25:16or make a threat, you would probably get yourself shot.

0:25:16 > 0:25:20So we don't like to see these out and about.

0:25:21 > 0:25:24The search is interrupted when the back doorbell goes.

0:25:24 > 0:25:28On opening the door, there is a surprised-looking caller.

0:25:28 > 0:25:30Because of what's happened at this address today,

0:25:30 > 0:25:33as of this moment, you are detained for the purposes of the search.

0:25:33 > 0:25:34Oh, for the search, all right.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37- My colleague'll search you, all right?- No worries.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40- Is there anything that you've got on you now that you shouldn't have?- No.

0:25:40 > 0:25:43- All right, we'll go through it now, all right?- No problem, yeah.

0:25:43 > 0:25:46That is paraphernalia, but it's all clean.

0:25:46 > 0:25:48The woman is given an on-the-spot search.

0:25:48 > 0:25:52Coming up clean, she is free to go.

0:25:52 > 0:25:53- All right.- OK?

0:25:53 > 0:25:55- Mind how you go.- Thank you.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57But she is a familiar face to the neighbourhood team.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59The female is known to us,

0:25:59 > 0:26:03and indeed, most of neighbourhood policing in Scunthorpe.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05She is a drug user, OK?

0:26:05 > 0:26:07And the intelligence we've received

0:26:07 > 0:26:11is that people do come to the rear of this premises

0:26:11 > 0:26:13when they wish to get their drugs, basically,

0:26:13 > 0:26:17so to me, that simply validates what we're doing here.

0:26:17 > 0:26:18She wasn't expecting that,

0:28:12 > 0:28:15means they can't trust him to get home alone.

0:28:15 > 0:28:18Knowing there's not much point in giving him a telling-off

0:28:18 > 0:28:22in his current condition, they take the softly-softly approach.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24Don't worry about it.

0:28:24 > 0:28:27Are you going to be able to walk or do we need to take you home?

0:29:12 > 0:29:15The back seat of the police car may have had a lucky escape,

0:29:15 > 0:29:18but the same can't be said for the doorstep.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21Let's just hope he's taken them to the right house.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23You don't have to apologise to us, fella.

0:29:55 > 0:29:57He's on some kind of medication

0:29:57 > 0:29:59where he's not supposed to have too much to drink,

0:29:59 > 0:30:02but at least he's not passed out.

0:30:17 > 0:30:19All across Humberside,

0:30:19 > 0:30:22neighbourhood police officers get inundated with calls from the public

0:30:22 > 0:30:25about problems taking place on their doorsteps.

0:30:25 > 0:30:28It's up to the police to review these complaints

0:30:28 > 0:30:30and to allay residents' concerns.

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Today, PCSO Shaun Casson is looking at any complaints

0:30:37 > 0:30:39that have come in from the public overnight.

0:30:39 > 0:30:43This morning, I've looked through the intelligence reports

0:30:43 > 0:30:45and we've come up an address, on north Hull,

0:30:45 > 0:30:49which we're going go do what we call a door-knock

0:30:49 > 0:30:53and see if we can talk to that person relating to him growing cannabis.

0:30:53 > 0:30:56Home-growing of cannabis has escalated in the past few years,

0:30:56 > 0:30:59with the majority of the UK's illegal supply

0:30:59 > 0:31:03coming not just from gangs who cultivate it on an industrial scale,

0:31:03 > 0:31:08but individuals who grow it in spare bedrooms, lofts and sheds.

0:31:08 > 0:31:11The team suit up and head in convoy to the destination.

0:31:11 > 0:31:16They carry out dozens of these kinds of raids every month,

0:31:16 > 0:31:18and have scored major successes

0:31:18 > 0:31:21at keeping drugs off the city's streets.

0:31:21 > 0:31:24And these kinds of high-visibility raids reassure the public

0:31:24 > 0:31:26that the police are doing everything they can

0:31:26 > 0:31:29to make their communities a safer place.

0:31:29 > 0:31:30Mick could break the door in,

0:31:30 > 0:31:33but decides to take the softly-softly approach...

0:31:33 > 0:31:35- Mr- BLEEP,- come down to the door, please.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38..and ask the householder to come and speak with him.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40Morning, how are you?

0:31:40 > 0:31:42Can I just come in and have a word with you?

0:31:42 > 0:31:43Thank you very much.

0:31:43 > 0:31:48Once inside, Mick announces the reason for the team's visit.

0:31:48 > 0:31:51I'm Sergeant Stevenson from the Community Reassurance Team, OK?

0:31:51 > 0:31:53These people with me are obviously my staff.

0:31:53 > 0:31:56DOG BARKS We've come because we had a complaint

0:31:56 > 0:31:59that there's a strong smell of cannabis coming from your address,

0:31:59 > 0:32:02and as soon as you opened the door, first thing I smelled was cannabis.

0:32:02 > 0:32:05Are you growing cannabis at this address?

0:32:05 > 0:32:09The man says he isn't. Behind closed doors, Mick tells the man

0:32:09 > 0:32:12he's going to act on his suspicions and search the property,

0:32:12 > 0:32:15- the hard way or the easy way.- Let me just explain something to you -

0:32:15 > 0:32:18if you won't allow us to search with consent,

0:32:18 > 0:32:21then, because I can smell cannabis, that gives me reasonable suspicion,

0:32:21 > 0:32:23and I'm going to arrest you,

0:32:23 > 0:32:27but if I arrest you, you will stay arrested. All right?

0:32:27 > 0:32:31If you give us consent and we look round and we do find something,

0:32:31 > 0:32:33there's always the possibility that you won't get arrested

0:32:33 > 0:32:35and we'll interview you at the address.

0:32:35 > 0:32:37I'm explaining it to you, so you know...

0:32:37 > 0:32:39The man admits to having one plant.

0:32:39 > 0:32:41I'll explain it to you so you know where we stand.

0:32:41 > 0:32:43Because you just said you have one plant,

0:32:43 > 0:32:46I'm now going to caution you and tell you, you don't have to say anything,

0:32:46 > 0:32:49but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned

0:32:49 > 0:32:51something which you later rely on in court.

0:32:51 > 0:32:55Anything you do say may be given in evidence. Do you understand that?

0:32:55 > 0:32:58All right, mate. Now you're under caution, be careful what you say.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01Are you going to allow us to search with consent?

0:33:01 > 0:33:03You are? OK.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Going to have a quick look upstairs.

0:33:05 > 0:33:09With the law laid down, the team commence their search,

0:33:09 > 0:33:11and Shaun's experience leads him

0:33:11 > 0:33:15straight to the heart of the home-growing operation.

0:33:15 > 0:33:17And he's used the second bedroom.

0:33:17 > 0:33:24As you can see, he's put this plastic sheeting across.

0:33:26 > 0:33:28It's just a basic set-up.

0:33:32 > 0:33:37This is a basic set-up. He's got just that one plant growing there,

0:33:37 > 0:33:40plus he's had a little cutting off that one

0:33:40 > 0:33:42and some cuttings off this small one here.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47So far, they have found the one plant the man admitted to,

0:33:47 > 0:33:51but Shaun's keen nose leads him through to the other bedroom.

0:33:51 > 0:33:54This wardrobe here has got three small ones.

0:33:54 > 0:33:56But it's not the first time

0:33:56 > 0:33:59the man has been found growing cannabis at home,

0:33:59 > 0:34:02which places him in a more serious position as a repeat offender,

0:34:02 > 0:34:05which this time could even see him made homeless.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07What's happened at this address is,

0:34:07 > 0:34:10because we've found cannabis plants being grown again,

0:34:10 > 0:34:13this is the second occasion in council property,

0:34:13 > 0:34:15so on this occasion, he's being arrested

0:34:15 > 0:34:20and he's now going into custody at Priory Road Police Station.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23We've got the neighbourhood nuisance team down.

0:34:23 > 0:34:24They'll photograph the property

0:34:24 > 0:34:27as well as our crime scene investigator,

0:34:27 > 0:34:29and they'll take their own independent action

0:34:29 > 0:34:31in relation to tenancy enforcement,

0:34:31 > 0:34:34and I would imagine on this occasion, he'll probably get evicted.

0:34:34 > 0:34:37A further search of the house

0:34:37 > 0:34:40turns up some evidence of cannabis dried for use.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42These have obviously been full at one point

0:34:42 > 0:34:44cos they've all got remnants of cannabis in them.

0:34:44 > 0:34:48Clearly, he's had some pretty decent grows in that room at the back.

0:34:48 > 0:34:50There's three plants in the front bedroom

0:34:50 > 0:34:52which are growing inside a wardrobe.

0:34:52 > 0:34:54They're about nine or ten inches tall altogether.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56They look relatively healthy

0:34:56 > 0:35:00and they're just growing under a single normal light-bulb.

0:35:01 > 0:35:05They look as though they've got some way to go yet

0:35:05 > 0:35:07before they're fully grown

0:35:07 > 0:35:09and they'll be ready for harvest.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12In the back bedroom, there's another plant, which is more established

0:35:12 > 0:35:15and it's quite bushy and quite well on the way to being fully grown.

0:35:15 > 0:35:18It's had a couple of other plants growing in there too

0:35:18 > 0:35:22which appear to have died, either through neglect

0:35:22 > 0:35:25or they've just not established themselves properly.

0:35:25 > 0:35:27So, in total we've found four plants.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29The team does an inventory

0:35:29 > 0:35:32of the drugs and the associated growing paraphernalia

0:35:32 > 0:35:33they have found in the search.

0:35:36 > 0:35:40The strong police presence on the street sends a sign to residents

0:35:40 > 0:35:42that the neighbourhood team take their complaints seriously,

0:35:42 > 0:35:45and also sends a warning to criminals

0:35:45 > 0:35:47that they will not hesitate to take action

0:35:47 > 0:35:50to put a stop to criminal wrong-doing.

0:35:55 > 0:35:57The man was found guilty of possession

0:35:57 > 0:36:02of a Class B controlled drug and was fined £100, plus costs.

0:36:06 > 0:36:08In the Humberside Police region,

0:36:08 > 0:36:11the team are looking to get the youngest members of the community

0:36:11 > 0:36:15on side in the fight against house burglars.

0:36:15 > 0:36:18A new scheme sees officers Paul and Andy

0:36:18 > 0:36:20turn a classroom into a crime scene.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24Neighbourhood teams are a familiar face to pupils and teachers,

0:36:24 > 0:36:27during both good times and bad.

0:36:27 > 0:36:31Generally, most PCSOs are spot for certain schools

0:36:31 > 0:36:33and it's their job to go into the schools,

0:36:33 > 0:36:37liaise with the staff and pupils, ensure things go OK.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39Through my role, I've been invited

0:36:39 > 0:36:42onto the governors' board at that school as well,

0:36:42 > 0:36:43so I've got a good relationship,

0:36:43 > 0:36:46good understanding with the staff and pupils at the school.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52To complement the regional crackdown on break-ins,

0:36:52 > 0:36:56Paul and Andy have come up with a fun way to teach children

0:36:56 > 0:36:59about the work of police officers in catching burglars.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02They turn the classroom into a ransacked living room

0:37:02 > 0:37:03and leave behind some clues.

0:37:03 > 0:37:06'We also want to try and get them to work out'

0:37:06 > 0:37:09how he's got in, which way he's gone, what he's tried to do,

0:37:09 > 0:37:12what he's tried not to do, so it's not just about finding the evidence,

0:37:12 > 0:37:16it's also finding the method, the way in which they've come out,

0:37:16 > 0:37:18the way they've gone out.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21Hopefully, they'll pick up on a lot of it

0:37:21 > 0:37:24and hopefully, they'll all get some good clues together

0:37:24 > 0:37:27and piece the story together

0:37:27 > 0:37:32The budding detectives listen as the police tell them what lies ahead.

0:37:32 > 0:37:34We need to treat this very seriously

0:37:34 > 0:37:37because if me or PC Anderson go to a crime scene,

0:37:37 > 0:37:41we can't just mess about and laugh. We've got to treat it seriously.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43Because it's a crime scene,

0:37:43 > 0:37:45once you get in there,

0:37:45 > 0:37:48you're not allowed to touch anything. OK?

0:37:48 > 0:37:50Does anyone know why?

0:37:52 > 0:37:54Because they might have fingerprints on.

0:37:54 > 0:37:56Mmm. So, we're going in,

0:37:56 > 0:37:58we're looking for clues how they broke in,

0:37:58 > 0:38:02what they've been looking at, what they might have been searching for

0:38:02 > 0:38:06and the means they've used to actually break into the school.

0:38:06 > 0:38:08There's some obvious clues in there,

0:38:08 > 0:38:14but there's also some really hard clues in there.

0:38:19 > 0:38:22The young Sherlocks begin surveying the crime scene

0:38:22 > 0:38:24and make a note of everything

0:38:24 > 0:38:27they think may be a clue as to what happened.

0:38:31 > 0:38:34Time's up. Andy musters the group back together.

0:38:36 > 0:38:37Is this everybody?

0:38:37 > 0:38:39- The jungle.- The jungle!

0:38:39 > 0:38:41Crowbar -

0:38:41 > 0:38:43so he might have used that to do what?

0:38:43 > 0:38:45- To get in.- To get in, yeah.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47And how did he get in?

0:38:47 > 0:38:49One young lad picked up on a very important clue.

0:38:49 > 0:38:53They've reached their arm in, put the key in

0:38:53 > 0:38:56and then, because they've cut themselves on the arm,

0:38:56 > 0:38:58they went over to the tap, got a paper towel

0:38:58 > 0:39:00and left some blood on it.

0:39:00 > 0:39:04The idea that the burglar may have been injured during the break-in

0:39:04 > 0:39:08- sets the young minds racing.- He had blood on his hand, on his arm.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11- Mr Norton?- Yeah. - The school caretaker?

0:39:11 > 0:39:14- Yeah.- Yeah!- Just a minute!

0:39:14 > 0:39:18We can get in a lot of trouble for even suspecting him of doing it,

0:39:18 > 0:39:22so let's just hear him out, let's hear what his story is first.

0:39:22 > 0:39:24Come in. Sorry, come in.

0:39:24 > 0:39:28- Oh, right.- You know, Kim asked us to come

0:39:28 > 0:39:32- and have a look at this burglary? - Yeah, the burglary.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34Our SOCO officers have had a day off,

0:39:34 > 0:39:38- so we've had to use these pupils to help.- Right.- OK?

0:39:38 > 0:39:41For some bizarre reason, they think it was you.

0:39:41 > 0:39:44- Me?- Yeah!- What happened to your arm?

0:39:44 > 0:39:47- I just cut it when I was in my shed last night.- Shed, OK.

0:39:47 > 0:39:50- Yeah, I just cut it on a nail, like, so...- Do we believe him?

0:39:50 > 0:39:52No!

0:39:52 > 0:39:54Right, hands down.

0:39:54 > 0:39:56Right, OK, where was you last night?

0:39:56 > 0:39:58I was at home, yeah, I was at home watching telly.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01- Can anyone prove that? - There was a football match on.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04Yeah, my wife. Me and the wife watched that football match, yeah.

0:40:04 > 0:40:06- Hang on. - What football match was it?

0:40:06 > 0:40:08Went to penalties, Crystal Palace.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11But I went out with your wife last night.

0:40:11 > 0:40:12CHILDREN: Ooh!

0:40:12 > 0:40:14Thank you, Mrs Woods.

0:40:14 > 0:40:18- He's lied.- Why would he lie, then?

0:40:18 > 0:40:19If he's lying, why would he lie?

0:40:19 > 0:40:22To get out of trouble, to blame someone else.
