0:01:00 > 0:01:02No way, man, what's going on?

0:01:02 > 0:01:04It is just cos you are a little bit excited with me.

0:01:04 > 0:01:05We have got a warrant

0:01:05 > 0:01:07- to search the residence. - Search my property, mate?!

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Adge investigates a desecrated graveyard.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13So they're using a gravestone to attach his tent.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16And they are using this place, by the looks of it,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18as a sewer, for God's sake.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21And text messages lead officers to a man's front door.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23- Everything you ever sent is on there.- Yeah.- All right?

0:01:23 > 0:01:25So we know exactly what you have been doing.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27That doesn't mean it's true, though.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Somerset is known around the world as the home of Cheddar cheese

0:01:36 > 0:01:38and the Glastonbury Festival.

0:01:38 > 0:01:4216 million people visit each year,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45causing additional problems for the police.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48SIRENS

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Neighbourhood police work tirelessly to keep drugs off our streets.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Backing them up are specialist units

0:01:56 > 0:02:00who gather intelligence and keep suspects under surveillance.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10It is early morning in Weston-super-Mare. An undercover

0:02:10 > 0:02:14officer is giving a briefing, planning a raid on a property.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19OK, today we are going to execute a Section 23, Misuse of Drugs Act

0:02:19 > 0:02:22warrant. When we are in the address, be aware of needles

0:02:22 > 0:02:23and obviously paraphernalia.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27The police have recently arrested a man with his pockets packed

0:02:27 > 0:02:29full of drugs.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33The recent intelligence - a guy who was arrested two days ago

0:02:33 > 0:02:35was in possession of 44 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40He came from that address. So hence we got the warrant today to execute.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42The arrested man has told the police that there's drugs

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and money in the flat. This may not be true,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48but the police have to check out the claims.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50We got the undercover officers out there,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52sort of keeping an eyeball on the property.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56What they have told us is basically the curtains are drawn

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and that it is a good time to strike,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00so I think they're effectively saying to us,

0:03:00 > 0:03:03as soon as we get to our drop-off location, we are on our tail,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05straight to the door and affect entry.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11The curtains at the flat are still drawn,

0:03:11 > 0:03:15making it easier for the police to make a surprise entrance.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24- Police!- Go, go, go! - Stay where you are!- Go, go!

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Stay where you are!

0:03:26 > 0:03:27Proceed. With dog, with dog.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28I just want to hold him down.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31- That's fine.- Search my house, mate?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33You're all right. I'm not going nowhere.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36- We are going to cuff you up. - What do you mean? I'm all right.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38- Can you just- BLEEP?

0:03:38 > 0:03:40- No way, man, what's going on? - It's just cos you are a little bit

0:03:40 > 0:03:42excited with me. We have got a warrant

0:03:42 > 0:03:44- to search the residence. - Search my property, mate.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47- Just chill out, calm down. - Listen, I'm all right. No worries.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49- You keeping on my missus. - Yeah, she'll be fine.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51We ain't going to do anything to her, are we?

0:03:51 > 0:03:53There is drug use here. I am a heroin addict.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56- I have used. There will be needles and- BLEEP.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59- I appreciate that.- But apart from that, there is nothing here.

0:03:59 > 0:04:00I tell you what...

0:04:00 > 0:04:04The man arrested two days ago claimed there was a big dealer in the flat.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09But as the man looks completely confused, it may have been a lie.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12As well as the heroin addict, there is

0:04:12 > 0:04:14another man and a woman in the property.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16..a while back.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17We have taken control of the situation.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Forced entry. All persons on the premise,

0:04:19 > 0:04:22they have been detained under the warrant.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24We are now going to divide up into teams.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26We're going to go room by room, methodically.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28And then from there, we'll see what offences we've got,

0:04:28 > 0:04:30deal with it appropriately.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32If you want to start that way and work that way,

0:04:32 > 0:04:33and I'll work this way.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35And we'll meet in the middle.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37The bedroom already looks like it has been turned

0:04:37 > 0:04:40over before the officers start their search.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43Mike Easton is an old hand at jobs like this.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47Obviously, people with affliction, such as heroin addiction or

0:04:47 > 0:04:49whatever, they don't often tell the truth.

0:04:49 > 0:04:50Um...

0:04:50 > 0:04:52And quite often, they will try and give us

0:04:52 > 0:04:56a bit of a bum steer away from where actually the drugs may be.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59But we'll search it thoroughly. And, you know, pick up some stuff

0:04:59 > 0:05:02that maybe they have actually forgotten about.

0:05:02 > 0:05:03With the search underway,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06the heroin addict's girlfriend wants a word with one of the team.

0:05:06 > 0:05:07What is going to happen here?

0:05:07 > 0:05:09Because I have got personal use weed in there.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11Will I be arrested for that?

0:05:11 > 0:05:12Well, I don't know what your previous is.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14I've got previous for weed.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16Right then, possibly you would.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18- We will deal with you as best we can, all right?- Yeah.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Is there anything around here we need to be aware of,

0:05:20 > 0:05:21except this cannabis?

0:05:21 > 0:05:24No. There might be a fag with pens and that in it.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27But I will say to you, I do not use anything but weed.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29That is all use.

0:05:29 > 0:05:33There is already a little bit of cannabis on the table,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35which obviously is going to be seized.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39And I believe that the person who is claiming that that is theirs

0:05:39 > 0:05:41has already been arrested previously for it,

0:05:41 > 0:05:43so she'll have to come in and be interviewed.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46Going to have to be.

0:05:46 > 0:05:47She has already been arrested

0:05:47 > 0:05:49for possession of cannabis.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52As the woman has admitted to previous cannabis offences,

0:05:52 > 0:05:54officers will have to arrest her.

0:05:55 > 0:05:59In the bedroom, the team have made another discovery.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02A horrific arsenal of weapons hidden under the bed.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06And the knife is covered in a brown substance.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08Do you think that looks like heroin on there?

0:06:10 > 0:06:11Oh, it is, definitely.

0:06:12 > 0:06:14It does look like it, doesn't it?

0:06:14 > 0:06:15Oh, yeah, I would say.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18There is a brownish sort of substance on the end of the knife.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20It looks like it could be heroin.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24As one of the residents has already admitted injecting heroin,

0:06:24 > 0:06:27the knife and needles are seized for testing.

0:06:27 > 0:06:28Weston. Hate it.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30His girlfriend is worried about her partner's habit.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33- I keep saying to him, - BLEEP,- each time we relapse...

0:06:33 > 0:06:36You've got to realise, it feels like I am being kicked in the teeth.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38Because I did all that hard work with you.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40And now that you've done that, all that hard work he's just

0:06:40 > 0:06:42basically kicked me in the teeth with it, eh?

0:06:42 > 0:06:45You know what I mean? And he's like, "Well, I know, babe,"

0:06:45 > 0:06:47but it needs to be sorted.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50We've just finished the hand search

0:06:50 > 0:06:53and we have not actually found any A class drugs,

0:06:53 > 0:06:54which were looking for.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56We have found instructions

0:06:56 > 0:06:59that it does get used in the address and that there

0:06:59 > 0:07:04is certainly activity that is of interest, intelligence-wise.

0:07:04 > 0:07:05Meanwhile, in the bedroom,

0:07:05 > 0:07:09Carla Collins finds some suspicious looking powder.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11What is this? That.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14- Where was that?- Just in there.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18It looks like, um...

0:07:18 > 0:07:20benzocaine. Doesn't it?

0:07:21 > 0:07:22Where was that, in there?

0:07:22 > 0:07:25- Yeah, right here.- Look at that. Looks like benzocaine.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27- Do you reckon?- What is benzocaine?

0:07:27 > 0:07:30- It's a cutting agent for cocaine. - Oh, yeah.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32Benzocaine is a legal anaesthetic.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35If the man arrested outside with the 44 wraps

0:07:35 > 0:07:37is telling the truth, then it

0:07:37 > 0:07:38could be used to cut drugs,

0:07:38 > 0:07:41as it simulates the numbing effect of cocaine.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43But if he isn't,

0:07:43 > 0:07:46then the residents may just be using it to treat mouth ulcers.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51If it has been used to cut cocaine, then there will be

0:07:51 > 0:07:54enough of a trace for the drugs dog to take an interest.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58We will methodically work our way around the premises

0:07:58 > 0:08:00and just search to see if we can find any evidence or any

0:08:00 > 0:08:03drugs that may have been missed by the search team.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Tink, the drugs dog, does a thorough search of the flat.

0:08:07 > 0:08:09Come. Come, come.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16Despite the evidence of heroin use at the flat,

0:08:16 > 0:08:20the only drugs they find is a bit of cannabis.

0:08:20 > 0:08:21No-one is getting nicked?

0:08:21 > 0:08:23I think my colleague has already explained what

0:08:23 > 0:08:24he is going to do with you.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26The lady is arrested and street bailed,

0:08:26 > 0:08:29meaning she will be called back to the station at a later date.

0:08:29 > 0:08:33- All right, guys, have a good day. - Thank you for being brilliant.

0:08:33 > 0:08:34That's ideal.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36- You're welcome.- Normally... They're horrible normally.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38But all you lot have been brilliant.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42Although the team didn't find any evidence of drug dealing,

0:08:42 > 0:08:45Sergeant Jason Hulbert is confident the raid has sent a strong

0:08:45 > 0:08:47message to the neighbourhood.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49You always want to take drugs off the street.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51That is a major cause of crime.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53The more drugs we can take off the street,

0:08:53 > 0:08:56it has got to be a better thing for the whole community.

0:08:56 > 0:08:57They have seen the police here.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01We are intelligence-led, so hopefully the message gets

0:09:01 > 0:09:05out there that if people do give information,

0:09:05 > 0:09:08then it comes back and it gets acted on.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11And hopefully, the community see the benefits of it.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15It seems the man arrested with 44 wraps of heroin

0:09:15 > 0:09:19and cocaine was just trying to blame the innocent residents.

0:09:22 > 0:09:23It didn't work.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26At court, he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33The case against the woman is still ongoing.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43In Bath, community officer

0:09:43 > 0:09:47Adge Secker is investigating a shocking complaint.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50I have had a local member of the public contact me

0:09:50 > 0:09:52and say that in one of these cemeteries -

0:09:52 > 0:09:55it may be this one or may be the one next to it, I don't know -

0:09:55 > 0:09:59where people are coming here, injecting drugs.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01There is evidence of needles found, apparently,

0:10:01 > 0:10:02according to this person.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06Also, groups of people drinking lots of alcohol and getting drunk

0:10:06 > 0:10:08and just desecrating these graves.

0:10:08 > 0:10:09And I'm not going to have it.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14Cemeteries are meant to be places of quiet contemplation,

0:10:14 > 0:10:17where people hold lasting memories of their loved ones.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23If the claims are true, it is all the more shocking, as the graveyard is

0:10:23 > 0:10:28the final resting place for hundreds of soldiers killed in two world wars.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37It is a big place and Adge has got a lot of ground to cover to

0:10:37 > 0:10:39check out what has been going on.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43They'll not be in the middle, so I'll go round the perimeter

0:10:43 > 0:10:46and see what's I can unearth.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50Hidden at the far end is something distinctly odd.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55So right up there... You see the trees? I can see a couple of tents.

0:10:55 > 0:10:57I will just call for an officer to come and meet me.

0:10:57 > 0:11:00Just in case there's a few of them there.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03Adge keeps his distance and waits for backup to arrive.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09It is getting dark and he wants to get closer before anyone can

0:11:09 > 0:11:11sneak away in the unlit cemetery.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16Adge still can't believe what these people are doing.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19It is in a cemetery for...sake, John.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21I know, I know. I don't know. I don't know.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27The insult is not just to the people who have loved ones buried here

0:11:27 > 0:11:30but to the many people who died fighting for their country.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34- I noticed a Commonwealth war grave up here.- I know, I know.

0:11:34 > 0:11:36- Well, there's one over there, you can see.- Yeah.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39- Like they're...- Yeah, they're scattered all over the place.

0:11:39 > 0:11:40Beacons, exactly.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43Hello in the camp.

0:11:43 > 0:11:44Hello.

0:11:54 > 0:11:55Hello in the camp.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03- They're all rolled up. - Anybody in there, John?

0:12:05 > 0:12:08- I can't see any from here. - No, it's all rolled up.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- They've obviously been here.- Huh.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15The ground is littered with super-strength cans of lager

0:12:15 > 0:12:18and hypodermic needle packs.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20Adge suspects the camp is being squatted by some

0:12:20 > 0:12:22of the town's street drinkers.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28Just mind where you put your feet, Jay, because...

0:12:28 > 0:12:30there is no toilet handy, is there?

0:12:32 > 0:12:34It looks like the reports of drinking

0:12:34 > 0:12:38and drug taking amongst the gravestones are correct.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41But now they know that people are living here,

0:12:41 > 0:12:43the situation is more complicated.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47- Get in touch with the council... - Right.- ..to see if they can...

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Because obviously we can't take it down.

0:12:49 > 0:12:50No, we don't evict people, do we?

0:12:50 > 0:12:52See if they will come and clear it all up.

0:12:52 > 0:12:56The police can't simply tear the tenants and tarpaulins down.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00Regardless of this disrespectful behaviour, they have to act

0:13:00 > 0:13:04within the law, and that means applying for an eviction notice.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07- But you see he's using gravestone... - Gravestone.- ..as...

0:13:07 > 0:13:10- What, to attach his... Oh, that's...- Yeah.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14- He's putting that over the top and then using...- Yeah, OK.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18Well, we will put pressure on the council then to get rid, then.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20All right, OK, guys.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Eviction can be a lengthy process,

0:13:22 > 0:13:25but this disgusting conduct needs to be tackled quickly.

0:13:31 > 0:13:34John's just found there, and in orange bag,

0:13:34 > 0:13:36what we think is human excrement.

0:13:37 > 0:13:41And they're going to wonder why we want them off from here.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44So they're using a gravestone to attach his tent,

0:13:44 > 0:13:47or his tarpaulin to create his tent.

0:13:47 > 0:13:52And they're using this place, by the looks of it, as a sewer,

0:13:52 > 0:13:53for God's sake.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57All right, boys, thanks for coming out. Appreciate it.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00Later, Adge works tirelessly to get the place cleaned up

0:14:00 > 0:14:02and back to its respectful state.

0:14:02 > 0:14:06- I haven't seen them. Not today, anyway.- Right. Where is he now?

0:14:06 > 0:14:08Where is he?

0:14:13 > 0:14:16Neighbourhood teams are on the front line

0:14:16 > 0:14:19when it comes to keeping a lid on drug abuse.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22Drug crimes aren't just restricted to run down areas.

0:14:22 > 0:14:27Sometimes they happen in the most surprising parts of town.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33In Weston-super-Mare, Russ Millier and Glenn Wheeler

0:14:33 > 0:14:36are on their way to one of the town's leafier suburbs

0:14:36 > 0:14:41to investigate a possible cannabis cultivation, known as a grow.

0:14:41 > 0:14:46We are heading out to an address on our patch to look at some arrests -

0:14:46 > 0:14:48a male and possibly a female -

0:14:48 > 0:14:52in connection with concern in supply of a controlled drug.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56This area isn't necessarily where you'd expect to find a drugs farm,

0:14:56 > 0:14:59but a trail of phone messages from someone

0:14:59 > 0:15:03they have already arrested has led them straight to this house.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05OK.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07So we've got both vehicles there.

0:15:08 > 0:15:09Now is a good time.

0:15:13 > 0:15:15Both occupants are in there.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18Once inside, Glen gets straight down to business.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20OK, so at this time,

0:15:20 > 0:15:22I am arresting you both

0:15:22 > 0:15:24in concern in the supply of a controlled drug.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26You don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence

0:15:26 > 0:15:29if you do not mention something that you later rely on in court.

0:15:29 > 0:15:31Anything you do say may be given in evidence.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33- OK?- OK.

0:15:33 > 0:15:34- Is there any drugs on the premises? - No.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37Actually, there is maybe a little bit of cannabis in the garage.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41- In the garage.- Yeah.- What are we talking a little bit?- A spliff.

0:15:41 > 0:15:43- A spliff in the garage? - Yeah.- Right, OK.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Yeah, we got an answer, mate. Two in cuffs here.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48The text messages suggest that there is more than just a little

0:15:48 > 0:15:50bit of cannabis in the house.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54Russ is looking for evidence that drugs are being grown here.

0:15:54 > 0:15:55And that is hard to hide.

0:15:55 > 0:16:00A quick search and it is obvious there is no grow inside.

0:16:00 > 0:16:01But what about outside?

0:16:03 > 0:16:07PCSO Justin Robbie joins Russ to help him search the garage,

0:16:07 > 0:16:10where the man has admitted there might be "some" cannabis.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13Obviously, there is a bit of weed in there, like you said, in the house.

0:16:13 > 0:16:14About a spliff's worth.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17Obviously, we will be seizing that, all right? As evidence.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19Although the garage is incredibly dark,

0:16:19 > 0:16:22the cannabis isn't all that Russ notices.

0:16:22 > 0:16:26He thinks that this was the centre of the drugs growing operation.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29It looks to me, mate, you have shut down the grow.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31- There was a grow in here, wasn't there?- No.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35Well, I have seen enough grows in my time to see that this is a grow.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37You have still got the pots down there.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42You've got the black tape all around the top there.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45Haven't you?

0:16:45 > 0:16:47- Fair enough. Yeah.- Yeah?- Yeah, yeah.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49The man has admitted that there was a grow here.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52You've obviously been given the heads up, haven't you?

0:16:52 > 0:16:54Russ is suspicious that he has been tipped off.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58No, no, no. This was a long time ago, I can assure you.

0:16:58 > 0:17:02The garage is lined with plasterboard, sealed with black tape.

0:17:02 > 0:17:03And on the floor,

0:17:03 > 0:17:07a bin liner is filled with dismantled hydroponic equipment.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Um, this is quite a nice example of what we come across,

0:17:12 > 0:17:14a bit of a home-grown

0:17:14 > 0:17:16cannabis set-up, really.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19They have double-skinned the plasterboard walls

0:17:19 > 0:17:21with insulation in between it.

0:17:21 > 0:17:25And as you see from the corners, they have taped all the gaps.

0:17:25 > 0:17:29And what that does is it's their attempt to prevent us

0:17:29 > 0:17:30from using our heat source cameras.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33As far as domestic cultivation of cannabis goes,

0:17:33 > 0:17:36this was quite a sophisticated set-up.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39It also helps them keep the smell in one place.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42Usually... There you go, down there.

0:17:42 > 0:17:44That is where they would vent it.

0:17:44 > 0:17:47You have a sort of four-inch flexi-pipe going out there

0:17:47 > 0:17:48and it would vent the smell.

0:17:48 > 0:17:52Yeah. They would have had a considerable set-up in here.

0:17:52 > 0:17:54As well as the evidence of a grow,

0:17:54 > 0:17:56Russ finds something else in the garage that the man

0:17:56 > 0:17:58will have to explain.

0:17:58 > 0:17:59In the drawer, as well,

0:17:59 > 0:18:02we have noticed that you have obviously got scales, Shane.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04Just to weigh up the deals,

0:18:04 > 0:18:06to make sure I get what I'm meant to be getting, you know?

0:18:06 > 0:18:07- What from your own grow?- No, no,

0:18:07 > 0:18:09- from like when I pick up. - All right, OK.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12The man is claiming he uses the scales when he is buying drugs.

0:18:12 > 0:18:16But Russ' information points to him selling them.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19- So, where has all this come from? - What?- All this information.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22It has come from phones. From your phone, basically.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Your phone has been sending text messages to and fro another

0:18:25 > 0:18:30person's phone that we have arrested, OK, over a period of time.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33And your phone has cropped up numerous amounts of times

0:18:33 > 0:18:36in connection with the concern in supply of controlled drugs,

0:18:36 > 0:18:38namely cannabis.

0:18:38 > 0:18:39- OK? So, everything is on there. - Yeah.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42- Everything you ever send is on there.- Yeah.- All right?

0:18:42 > 0:18:43We know exactly what you've been doing.

0:18:43 > 0:18:46- That doesn't mean it's true though, that's the thing.- Well...

0:18:46 > 0:18:49- It is, isn't it?- Well, yeah, but that is circumstantial.

0:18:49 > 0:18:53- It's not... Yeah.- So you know that is why we are here, OK?- Yeah, fine.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57It is hard to convincingly say something is a rumour

0:18:57 > 0:18:59when you are standing next to evidence that at least

0:18:59 > 0:19:02some of the text message information was true.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05He has clearly had a cannabis grow in the garage, all right?

0:19:05 > 0:19:07Which he knows about.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09Um...

0:19:09 > 0:19:11It's one of those things, isn't it?

0:19:11 > 0:19:14If you're going to do that sort of thing, it is going to

0:19:14 > 0:19:15- catch up with you.- Yeah.- All right?

0:19:17 > 0:19:22Russ leaves with the remainder of the hydroponic equipment.

0:19:22 > 0:19:25It will be destroyed back at the station.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27He has had a cannabis grow there before. We've seen that.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30He understands that we won't tolerate it

0:19:30 > 0:19:32and we will be knocking at his door.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34They have been arrested. They are on street bail.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36We will examine the phones and what have you

0:19:36 > 0:19:39and see what else we have got to come from that.

0:19:39 > 0:19:42The evidence of the grow set-up, the incriminating text messages

0:19:42 > 0:19:45and the drugs found on the property meant that the man

0:19:45 > 0:19:48and his wife were both arrested, and the man was charged with

0:19:48 > 0:19:52possession of cannabis and offering to supply cannabis.

0:19:52 > 0:19:56At court, he pleaded guilty to dealing and received a 12-month

0:19:56 > 0:19:59community order, 120 hours of unpaid work

0:19:59 > 0:20:02and £325 in fines.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05No further action was taken against his wife.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12Still to come on Neighbourhood Blues...

0:20:12 > 0:20:15Officers in Bridgewater deal with a serious crash.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18It looks like quite a nasty accident.

0:20:18 > 0:20:20There is bad damage to both cars.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22And there is a lot of debris in the road.

0:20:23 > 0:20:27And in Weston, officers track down a man they want a word with.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29- All right?- Yeah.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31I shouted at you, you didn't stop.

0:20:39 > 0:20:43Back in Bath, Adge is investigating a truly disrespectful crime.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48People have been squatting in a graveyard, drinking,

0:20:48 > 0:20:50taking drugs and using it as a toilet.

0:20:53 > 0:20:57They have even used parts of the gravestones to help build a fire.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00Adge is determined to put a stop to this.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04We've done a few enquiries, we've identified two names of people

0:21:04 > 0:21:08that are camping out just across the way over there.

0:21:08 > 0:21:13Now he knows who it is, Adge hatches a plan to get word to them

0:21:13 > 0:21:14that they need to get out.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17We're going to use new legislation that's been enforced

0:21:17 > 0:21:20not that long, it's called a Community Protection Notice.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24The warning stage is the initial stage where you must stop

0:21:24 > 0:21:27sleeping, camping in the grounds of the cemetery, lighting fire,

0:21:27 > 0:21:30drinking alcohol and injecting yourselves or others

0:21:30 > 0:21:32with substances and what have you.

0:21:32 > 0:21:36As well as Adge's Community Protection Notice,

0:21:36 > 0:21:38the council have posted an eviction order.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42That could take months but tackling the problem from multiple angles

0:21:42 > 0:21:44is more likely to get a result.

0:21:45 > 0:21:47I think people are still here.

0:21:47 > 0:21:52Um, the fire looks fairly fresh, that's new bits of wood.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54Um, there's a new...

0:21:54 > 0:21:58There's more empty beer cans here, so...

0:21:58 > 0:22:00Yeah, they're still here.

0:22:00 > 0:22:02They're known to my colleagues in the city centre team

0:22:02 > 0:22:07and they're known as regular beggars on the streets of Bath.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09And on a beautiful, sunny day like this,

0:22:09 > 0:22:11I suspect that's exactly where they are.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14So, Adge takes to the streets to hunt them down.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18With him is PCSO Julie Durbin.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20This is her daily patch.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22- Is that him?- No.

0:22:22 > 0:22:23- Sure?- Yes.

0:22:23 > 0:22:27- Hello, hello, hello. - Adge is a well-known face about town.

0:22:28 > 0:22:30- Hello.- All right?- Yeah, not bad.

0:22:31 > 0:22:32- How's your luck?- Ugh.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34HE LAUGHS

0:22:34 > 0:22:39Even if Adge can't serve the notice, just getting the word out

0:22:39 > 0:22:43on the street may be enough to force the squatters to leave the graveyard.

0:22:43 > 0:22:44While they're walking,

0:22:44 > 0:22:48Adge manages to contact the girlfriend of one of the suspects.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51Right, where is he now? Where is he?

0:22:52 > 0:22:56She's in the city centre, so is he somewhere. They're not together.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59He's in the city centre somewhere, so she says.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01But Bath city centre is fairly large.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04So, Adge and Julie look to some of the local street drinkers

0:23:04 > 0:23:06for information,

0:23:06 > 0:23:08most of whom they are on first-name terms with.

0:23:09 > 0:23:12- Do you know where Ben is?- I haven't seen him. Not today, anyway.

0:23:12 > 0:23:14You're Duncan, ain't you?

0:23:14 > 0:23:16Bloody hell, good enough to loan it out but where are they behind you?

0:23:16 > 0:23:19Yeah, he's not in trouble, I just need to give him something,

0:23:19 > 0:23:21- that's all. - Bath has a small homeless population

0:23:21 > 0:23:23and they all tend to know each other.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26Adge knows that everything he's said will make its way back

0:23:26 > 0:23:29to the graveyard squatters.

0:23:29 > 0:23:30- Hello.- Hello, mate.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35There's no sign of either the man or his girlfriend in town.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38But the word is out on the street and that might be enough.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Later, Adge returns to the cemetery

0:23:44 > 0:23:46and it looks like his plan has worked.

0:23:46 > 0:23:50The camp and all the mess surrounding it has finally gone.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55At last, the graves are back to their respectful state.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59The combined force of the council

0:23:59 > 0:24:02and the neighbourhood police has been effective.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05I'm not all about, you know, arresting people

0:24:05 > 0:24:07and chucking them in prison, all that kind of stuff.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10We want to achieve what's best for the community

0:24:10 > 0:24:12and what's best for this situation here.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15And that is them not camping here,

0:24:15 > 0:24:17so therefore people can now come back to this graveyard

0:24:17 > 0:24:19and sit in quiet contemplation,

0:24:19 > 0:24:21which is what these places are all about.

0:24:21 > 0:24:22It's not a camping site.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25So that legislation really worked and our pressure on them

0:24:25 > 0:24:28really worked as well and we've achieved what we want to achieve.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30On to the next one.

0:24:39 > 0:24:43It's early evening on the Bournville Estate in Weston-super-Mare.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46Gemma Harper and Alice Durston have received information

0:24:46 > 0:24:48about some suspicious activity.

0:24:48 > 0:24:52Yes, she ran a report of two young lads walking around with

0:24:52 > 0:24:55a telly under their arm, quite a big flatscreen TV.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58Um, so it's probably worth us stopping

0:24:58 > 0:25:01and speaking to them and finding out where they got it from.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Yeah, control. Is there another unit

0:25:03 > 0:25:05that can come down on to Bournville, please?

0:25:05 > 0:25:10It's not illegal to take a TV out for a walk but it is unusual.

0:25:10 > 0:25:14- And the officers know one of their suspects all too well.- Adam!

0:25:14 > 0:25:16It seems he's not so keen on a catch-up.

0:25:16 > 0:25:20Before the officers turn a corner, the men have scarpered.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23There's a chap who walked down there with a telly.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27The back alleyways of the Bournville are a maze and the two suspects

0:25:27 > 0:25:29have gone off in different directions.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31Gemma and Alice do the same

0:25:31 > 0:25:34but they've got the advantage of being in radio contact.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37Yeah, Gem. I'll come back towards you there, mate.

0:25:37 > 0:25:41They know this patch well and all its usual hiding places.

0:25:43 > 0:25:45Gemma has caught up with one of them.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49The male that was holding the TV. However...

0:25:49 > 0:25:51He doesn't have the TV with him now.

0:25:51 > 0:25:53- All right?- Yeah.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56I shouted at you, you didn't stop. Didn't want to chat?

0:25:56 > 0:25:59Just trying to help someone out, that was all. I ain't doing nothing.

0:25:59 > 0:26:01Who were you with?

0:26:01 > 0:26:03Well, just with a few mates.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05I weren't doing nothing, just helping people out.

0:26:05 > 0:26:07I know, but you walking around the estate with a telly

0:26:07 > 0:26:09under your arm looks a bit suspicious, doesn't it?

0:26:09 > 0:26:12I was only walking from one end of the park to the other.

0:26:12 > 0:26:13There weren't no drama.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15The man's not denying he had a TV

0:26:15 > 0:26:17but that's about all he'll say on the matter.

0:26:17 > 0:26:19I don't want nothing to do with it

0:26:19 > 0:26:20because I don't want to get in trouble.

0:26:20 > 0:26:23- Where's the telly now? - Gone back with its rightful owner.

0:26:24 > 0:26:28- And who's that?- Someone who was helping me trying to sell it.

0:26:28 > 0:26:30I ain't getting involved.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32Well, you were carrying it, that's the problem, isn't it?

0:26:32 > 0:26:34All I was doing was helping him out.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36I ain't even going to go anywhere near it, man.

0:26:36 > 0:26:37I know, the thing is, Ad, right?

0:26:37 > 0:26:39Is there's an offence of handling stolen goods,

0:26:39 > 0:26:42- which I'm pretty sure you heard of. - Yeah, of course I have.

0:26:42 > 0:26:43And if that telly is stolen...

0:26:43 > 0:26:45Obviously, we don't have it to check that,

0:26:45 > 0:26:48but if it is stolen and you were found in possession of it,

0:26:48 > 0:26:50you could have been arrested for that offence, all right? So...

0:26:50 > 0:26:52You can't handle other people's things,

0:26:52 > 0:26:55whether you're doing a favour for them or not, you can't do it.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Because you're going to get yourself in trouble. All right, fair enough?

0:26:58 > 0:27:02- All right, yeah.- All right, see you later.- See you later.

0:27:02 > 0:27:05This is a case lacking a crime.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08The TV needs to be reported stolen before anything can be done.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14The next morning, an elderly man living in a sheltered housing block

0:27:14 > 0:27:16reports a theft.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19Police send forensics around straightaway

0:27:19 > 0:27:21to see if they can get prints.

0:27:21 > 0:27:24Forensics report a positive match for a fingerprint

0:27:24 > 0:27:27and it isn't the man they stopped yesterday.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31But it is someone known to the police.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33The gentleman around there said he'd seen him

0:27:33 > 0:27:35running round these backstreets there.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38With the suspect's description circulated,

0:27:38 > 0:27:40all eyes are searching for him.

0:27:40 > 0:27:44CCTV operators spot someone they think matches his description

0:27:44 > 0:27:47and Sergeant Colin Batchelor is on his way to check him out.

0:27:47 > 0:27:48We've got CCTV monitoring,

0:27:48 > 0:27:51we've got plainclothes units trying to keep an eye on him.

0:27:51 > 0:27:56So basically, we'll see if we can go and grab him and lock him up for it.

0:27:56 > 0:28:00As they approach the back of the high street, all eyes are on the suspect.

0:28:00 > 0:28:02This man is going nowhere.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08All right, fella? Come with me, you're under arrest, OK?

0:28:08 > 0:28:09- What for?- Put your hands behind your back.

0:28:09 > 0:28:13- You're under arrest for suspicion of burglary.- Suspicion of burglary?

0:28:13 > 0:28:15- Who do you think I am?- Yeah. You're Rob, innit?- No, I'm not, I'm Ben.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17- I'm Ben.- Hey?- Check. - Wait, wait, wait.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20- Look, check with Tony on the radio. Ask if Ben- BLEEP.

0:28:20 > 0:28:24Colin checks the police database and this guy is telling the truth.

0:28:24 > 0:28:26He's not their man.

0:28:26 > 0:28:28It's a case of mistaken identity.

0:28:28 > 0:28:32Hardly surprising as this is the suspect's brother.

0:28:32 > 0:28:34Someone has picked you up... Let me just explain.

0:28:34 > 0:28:37Someone has picked you up, thought you for your brother.

0:28:37 > 0:28:41I need to talk to him about an incident he knows about.

0:28:41 > 0:28:43And obviously, they thought it was you, all right?

0:28:43 > 0:28:46I've never met you before and I've never met your brother before,

0:28:46 > 0:28:49all right? So obviously... Yeah, I think they're happy it's Ben.

0:28:49 > 0:28:52- So, my apologies, all right? I'm big enough to say I'm sorry.- No worries.

0:28:52 > 0:28:55- All right?- I was saying, "Whoa, I ain't done nothing wrong!"

0:28:55 > 0:28:58- All right, thanks anyway.- At least not with burglaries.- All right, OK.

0:28:58 > 0:29:01While that wasn't the right man, the info is he's around here somewhere.

0:29:01 > 0:29:03We're trying to get some information, quick time,

0:29:03 > 0:29:04to find out where he is.

0:29:07 > 0:29:09'Update, on the subject of Ben.

0:29:09 > 0:29:12'Run off down towards the Boulevard direction,

0:29:12 > 0:29:14'off the side of Palmer Street.'

0:29:14 > 0:29:17He's just run off round the back of here somewhere.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20The problem is he'll go to ground now and we'll lose him.

0:29:20 > 0:29:22'We're currently on the Boulevard.'

0:29:22 > 0:29:23After an extensive search,

0:29:23 > 0:29:27Colin has to accept that the man has probably gone to ground.

0:29:27 > 0:29:31So, he collects Kellie Millier and heads round to see the victim.

0:29:31 > 0:29:32Can we see him?

0:29:34 > 0:29:37- What's gone on, then? Obviously, your TV has been stolen.- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:29:37 > 0:29:41- And you went out at 6.30? - Yeah, and I came back at 8.30.

0:29:41 > 0:29:48There was two people seen, I think, around seven o'clock on the night.

0:29:48 > 0:29:49- So you went out about 6.30? - Six, yeah.

0:29:49 > 0:29:52- And one of them was carrying a TV.- Yeah.

0:29:52 > 0:29:56- So when you went out, did you lock up?- No.- No? You didn't lock up?

0:29:56 > 0:29:57I never lock up.

0:29:57 > 0:30:01The man has left his flat door unlocked for weeks on end

0:30:01 > 0:30:04since losing his key, hoping that the lock in the communal door

0:30:04 > 0:30:08to his sheltered housing would provide enough security.

0:30:08 > 0:30:10So they've obviously come in through your front door.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13They've just walked in, haven't they? Cos it's not locked.

0:30:13 > 0:30:15I thought...

0:30:15 > 0:30:19- What am I doing?- It's obviously made it easy for that person.

0:30:19 > 0:30:20But how can they get in?

0:30:20 > 0:30:23In the evening, all it takes is someone else

0:30:23 > 0:30:25to let someone in by mistake or...

0:30:25 > 0:30:27Unfortunately for the man,

0:30:27 > 0:30:30opportunist thieves were quick to take advantage.

0:30:30 > 0:30:33Kellie will make sure it can't happen again.

0:30:33 > 0:30:35- We'll sort out a key for you. - Will you?

0:30:35 > 0:30:36And if we can't get a key,

0:30:36 > 0:30:38we'll get your locks changed for you, all right?

0:30:38 > 0:30:42- Thank God you're working here.- Well, someone's got to, haven't they?

0:30:42 > 0:30:43Yeah, this is it.

0:30:43 > 0:30:47Kellie wants to make sure the man's flat is secured as soon as possible.

0:30:47 > 0:30:50So, next morning, she's back with a locksmith from the man's

0:30:50 > 0:30:54housing provider who changes the locks, free of charge.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59That's obviously just taken a couple of minutes to change the locks

0:30:59 > 0:31:02but it'll can make a massive difference to the victim's safety

0:31:02 > 0:31:03and his life going forward.

0:31:03 > 0:31:07The man's home is secure and Colin received some good news.

0:31:07 > 0:31:10It turns out the suspect was on bail for another offence.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12So, when he had an appointment at the police station,

0:31:12 > 0:31:14he was promptly arrested.

0:31:14 > 0:31:16He's denied the offence.

0:31:16 > 0:31:20However, due to the weight of evidence against him,

0:31:20 > 0:31:22we have charged him with burglary.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25So, he's been remanded, he'll stay in the cells overnight.

0:31:25 > 0:31:28And as I say, the magistrates will decide his future from there.

0:31:28 > 0:31:29So, it's a real result.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31So I just need to let the victim know,

0:31:31 > 0:31:32which I'm sure he'll be really pleased.

0:31:34 > 0:31:37- Seven o'clock... - The case is still being investigated.

0:31:46 > 0:31:50- Thank you! - Life on the beat is always varied.

0:31:50 > 0:31:54And neighbourhood teams can never predict what the day might bring.

0:31:54 > 0:31:56But sometimes, officers get a call

0:31:56 > 0:31:59that all the training in the world can't prepare them for.

0:32:00 > 0:32:03In Bridgwater, PCSO Chris Hinchcliffe has been called

0:32:03 > 0:32:06to help with a rather unusual problem.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08And it's not really a police matter.

0:32:09 > 0:32:11Apparently, there's a swarm of bees.

0:32:11 > 0:32:13Um, I can't see them at the moment

0:32:13 > 0:32:15but they're supposed to be around here somewhere.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20Somebody spotted the swarm of bees, panicked and called 101.

0:32:20 > 0:32:22They should have called the council

0:32:22 > 0:32:25but since the report said the bees were preventing people from getting

0:32:25 > 0:32:30into their cars, Chris and Jo Farrow have been called to investigate.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33This is the most unusual job I think I've been sent to.

0:32:33 > 0:32:34When I got the call,

0:32:34 > 0:32:38I had to ask twice to see if I actually heard them correctly.

0:32:38 > 0:32:41Now that they're here, the PCSOs can manage traffic.

0:32:41 > 0:32:43You'll have to park at the end.

0:32:43 > 0:32:46Jo has already called in Richard, a local beekeeper,

0:32:46 > 0:32:48to deal with the problem.

0:32:48 > 0:32:50- We have the beekeeper.- OK.

0:32:50 > 0:32:54He's caught the bees in a box and he's managed to find the queen bee.

0:32:54 > 0:32:57This swarm of bees has gathered in the car park.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00As long as they are there, people can't get into their cars.

0:33:00 > 0:33:04There were three patches of bees. You can see one over there.

0:33:04 > 0:33:05Where it's gone.

0:33:05 > 0:33:08And there was one there and there was a big one here on the floor.

0:33:08 > 0:33:10I think the queen is slightly damaged.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14And she was having difficulty keeping up with the swarm.

0:33:14 > 0:33:18Richard has already caught the queen bee and put her into the box.

0:33:18 > 0:33:21And where she goes, the rest will follow.

0:33:21 > 0:33:25But because the queen bee is damaged, not all the bees are following her.

0:33:26 > 0:33:30Jo is taking a softly-softly approach on this sting operation.

0:33:30 > 0:33:33We've decided not to cordon it because you've got

0:33:33 > 0:33:36the bees that are on the floor, you've also got the vehicles.

0:33:36 > 0:33:41If we were to cordon the area and put the cones and police tape up,

0:33:41 > 0:33:43we're going to end up getting people phoning us,

0:33:43 > 0:33:46asking if they can move their vehicles and things.

0:33:47 > 0:33:51It's a windy day and the beekeeper has had to improvise.

0:33:51 > 0:33:54- What's with the boot over there? - The boots?

0:33:54 > 0:33:57The boots is on the box to keep the box shut.

0:33:57 > 0:34:00The majority of the bees are clustered around the queen

0:34:00 > 0:34:04inside the box but there's still lots flying around.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07- Oh! - SHE LAUGHS

0:34:07 > 0:34:10That is the worst thing to do, is panic.

0:34:10 > 0:34:11- Aggravate them?- Yeah.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13With the bees escaping the car park,

0:34:13 > 0:34:16Richard needs to get the box into his van quickly.

0:34:17 > 0:34:19No, there's not many on the floor. Look.

0:34:23 > 0:34:24We will observe from a distance.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27Yeah, they're already coming over here.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30Right.

0:34:32 > 0:34:33In order to protect me,

0:34:33 > 0:34:35I'm going to put some hessian sacking over the top.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39I'm not going to make sure they're all in the box.

0:34:39 > 0:34:43Um, I used to Sellotape them up to the nth degree.

0:34:45 > 0:34:46But now, I don't bother...

0:34:47 > 0:34:49..if a bee escapes.

0:34:53 > 0:34:55Richard heads back to his hive.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57There are a few stragglers left behind

0:34:57 > 0:35:00but not enough to cause any issues.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03So, we'll just leave them to disperse themselves.

0:35:03 > 0:35:06He said that by nightfall, they should have all disappeared

0:35:06 > 0:35:08and found somewhere else to go anyway.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11With the situation under control,

0:35:11 > 0:35:13it's time for Chris and Jo to buzz off...

0:35:13 > 0:35:15HE LAUGHS

0:35:15 > 0:35:17..and get back to some proper police work.

0:35:28 > 0:35:31Last year, more than 115,000 people were injured

0:35:31 > 0:35:34in car accidents on Britain's roads.

0:35:38 > 0:35:42In Bridgwater, Tex Freeman and PCSO Dan Wheller

0:35:42 > 0:35:45have received an urgent call to attend an accident.

0:35:47 > 0:35:51Newton Road, two vehicles. One complaining of chest pains.

0:35:51 > 0:35:55It's midday and busy roads mean just reaching the scene is a challenge.

0:35:55 > 0:35:57Yeah, it's quite narrow down through there.

0:35:57 > 0:35:59Especially when drivers won't pull over.

0:35:59 > 0:36:03Show yourself. Look, look, look!

0:36:03 > 0:36:06At the minute, we've just got a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

0:36:06 > 0:36:09Apparently, his injury, somebody complaining of chest pains.

0:36:09 > 0:36:13So whilst ambulance are obviously having a look at them,

0:36:13 > 0:36:15we're going to try and make the road safe

0:36:15 > 0:36:18and then we'll manoeuvre the vehicles as and when we can.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22We get called to road traffic accidents all the time.

0:36:22 > 0:36:23Covering the rural area,

0:36:23 > 0:36:26we go to more RTCs than most maybe within the towns.

0:36:26 > 0:36:28What do you need doing, buddy?

0:36:28 > 0:36:30At the scene, Tex assesses the situation.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33Five people have been hurt.

0:36:33 > 0:36:36Yeah, it's never nice turning up at a road traffic collision

0:36:36 > 0:36:39because you never know what you're going to find when you get there.

0:36:39 > 0:36:41You don't know how badly injured the people are.

0:36:41 > 0:36:43It looks like quite a nasty accident.

0:36:43 > 0:36:48There's bad damage to both cars and there's a lot of debris in the road.

0:36:48 > 0:36:51While the medics are busy doing their job,

0:36:51 > 0:36:54it's Tex's job to get the traffic moving again.

0:36:54 > 0:36:55There's a bit behind you, mate.

0:36:55 > 0:36:59If he doesn't get on top of it soon, there'll be a major jam.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02But the volume of cars is making the task difficult.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04Dan, what we do in a minute...

0:37:04 > 0:37:07Stop that, let them out, and then we'll do this.

0:37:09 > 0:37:11Because ambulance are already here, it's important that we

0:37:11 > 0:37:14control the scene, we leave them to deal with the casualties.

0:37:14 > 0:37:17And we crack on with making sure that the scene's secure

0:37:17 > 0:37:19and that there's no other accidents occur while here.

0:37:21 > 0:37:24I'll hold these. Stop them down there and we'll let them out, yeah?

0:37:24 > 0:37:26This is the A38.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29On a busy road like this, the traffic builds up quickly

0:37:29 > 0:37:31and a delay can cause chaos.

0:37:32 > 0:37:34As you can see, it backs up fairly quickly.

0:37:34 > 0:37:38Busy roads, just trying to keep it going as quick as we can.

0:37:38 > 0:37:40And swing my arm quite a lot.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45The collisions happened at a busy junction.

0:37:46 > 0:37:49So they don't just have to get the traffic to go around

0:37:49 > 0:37:52the crashed cars, but also manoeuvre them down a road

0:37:52 > 0:37:54half-blocked by the smash.

0:37:54 > 0:37:56HE BEEPS HORN

0:37:56 > 0:37:58Oh, you don't see that on the road very often, do you?

0:37:58 > 0:38:02Paramedic Dean Wiltshire was one of the first to reach the scene.

0:38:02 > 0:38:04It's taken quite a long time to clear the scene up

0:38:04 > 0:38:05because of the amount of people involved.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08We need to make sure that everybody is assessed individually

0:38:08 > 0:38:10and that can take some time to do.

0:38:10 > 0:38:12To make sure everyone's OK,

0:38:12 > 0:38:16five of the six occupants of the cars are taken to hospital for assessment.

0:38:16 > 0:38:19Looking at it, obviously it's a minor injury road traffic collision.

0:38:19 > 0:38:21So, colleagues will be taking an accident report.

0:38:21 > 0:38:23That vehicle will be collected.

0:38:23 > 0:38:27The road is almost clear once ambulance have moved.

0:38:27 > 0:38:30And just half an hour after arriving at the scene,

0:38:30 > 0:38:32Tex and Dan have got the road open again

0:38:32 > 0:38:34and the traffic can move freely.

0:38:34 > 0:38:37Unfortunately, you wouldn't believe how many RTCs

0:38:37 > 0:38:39we attend week in, week out.

0:38:39 > 0:38:41Lucky on this occasion there's minor injuries

0:38:41 > 0:38:43and the good thing is that everyone is going to go home

0:38:43 > 0:38:46at the end of the day safe and well back to their families.

0:38:52 > 0:38:55Bridgwater is a town with a problem.

0:38:55 > 0:38:59Most of the kids here may only be seven years old

0:38:59 > 0:39:02- but they hope to be part of the solution.- When it's...

0:39:02 > 0:39:07rude and mean and not nice, I think they shouldn't do it.

0:39:07 > 0:39:11There's been a spate of graffiti, including lewd language

0:39:11 > 0:39:16and drawings which local children are exposed to while playing.

0:39:16 > 0:39:18It is not very nice for children to see it.

0:39:18 > 0:39:22Like, they should be able to grow up in a place that is a clean

0:39:22 > 0:39:24environment and they don't have to worry about walking

0:39:24 > 0:39:27down the street and seeing something obscene.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29There are ways of possibly a bit of parental...

0:39:29 > 0:39:33Studies have shown that any area that falls victim to graffiti

0:39:33 > 0:39:36is more likely to draw in other crimes

0:39:36 > 0:39:38as people think that nobody cares.

0:39:38 > 0:39:42So, neighbourhood police work hard to catch people who graffiti

0:39:42 > 0:39:45and get the worst-affected areas cleaned up.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49In Bridgwater, PCSO Chris Hinchcliffe

0:39:49 > 0:39:52is out on patrol in an area that has been a magnet for vandals.

0:39:54 > 0:39:57Underneath the underpass here, you can see there are lots of squiggles

0:39:57 > 0:39:59and tags and things like that.

0:39:59 > 0:40:02None of it I would really call art.

0:40:02 > 0:40:06Nationwide, councils spend around £1 billion a year

0:40:06 > 0:40:08cleaning up graffiti.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11But that's not the only way to tackle this problem.

0:40:11 > 0:40:13There's two ways of getting about it, really.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16One of which is just basically cleaning up all the graffiti

0:40:16 > 0:40:18that you see around Bridgwater.

0:40:18 > 0:40:22And the other side of it is to try and deter people from doing it.

0:40:22 > 0:40:25A pumping station for a local water company has repeatedly

0:40:25 > 0:40:28been targeted by graffiti taggers.

0:40:28 > 0:40:31Yeah, Wessex Water have put in a lot of money into cleaning

0:40:31 > 0:40:34the graffiti off of this wall

0:40:34 > 0:40:36and it just keeps coming back.

0:40:37 > 0:40:41So, Wessex Water have given us the thumbs up

0:40:41 > 0:40:45to do something with it by getting people from the local community

0:40:45 > 0:40:48to paint something nice on there.

0:40:48 > 0:40:50So, the neighbourhood police have teamed up

0:40:50 > 0:40:53with the local water company to design a mural

0:40:53 > 0:40:56in collaboration with the local children.

0:40:56 > 0:40:59Something that people are going to love to see and, like,

0:40:59 > 0:41:03not want to cover up like they do with normal graffiti.

0:41:03 > 0:41:06Chris and PCSO Jo Farrow are working with a youth centre

0:41:06 > 0:41:10to run workshops where young designers can get creative.

0:41:10 > 0:41:13That's really good drawings. You've done this before, haven't you?

0:41:13 > 0:41:16As it's a pumping station that's being painted,

0:41:16 > 0:41:20the theme for the mural will be water-related.

0:41:20 > 0:41:22The concept behind it is what not to throw down the toilet

0:41:22 > 0:41:24and what to throw down the toilet.

0:41:24 > 0:41:28So it's quite a difficult concept to get children's head around,

0:41:28 > 0:41:30let's say.

0:41:30 > 0:41:31But we're working well with it.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34The designer's already sketched out the layout for the wall.

0:41:34 > 0:41:37The kids then add their own elements to make it

0:41:37 > 0:41:39a truly collaborative work.

0:41:39 > 0:41:40I like this. This is great.

0:41:40 > 0:41:43- Yeah, really, really good. - Some really good stuff.

0:41:43 > 0:41:46We've even got earwax on the end of your cotton buds. They're fantastic.

0:41:46 > 0:41:49Are you going to come down and do the actual painting on the wall?

0:41:49 > 0:41:50- Yeah.- Please do!

0:41:54 > 0:41:58The big day dawns and the pumping station wall has been painted white

0:41:58 > 0:42:00in preparation for the mural.

0:42:05 > 0:42:07If you get them to bring the paint over a little bit,

0:42:07 > 0:42:10because I'm going to be going up the ladder.

0:42:10 > 0:42:12We're going to do that bit over there, it's blue.

0:42:12 > 0:42:13It's been really, like, fun.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16It gives you something to do in the holidays.

0:42:16 > 0:42:17Turning out quite well.

0:42:20 > 0:42:24This design, with its toilets, may not be to everyone's taste.

0:42:24 > 0:42:26And it could be changed again in the future.

0:42:26 > 0:42:30But it's a lot better than the graffiti that was here before.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34We've been working with the PCSOs Jo and Chris.

0:42:34 > 0:42:36They've been fantastic.

0:42:36 > 0:42:39Great at organising everything, releasing information

0:42:39 > 0:42:42to the residents, local residents around here.

0:42:42 > 0:42:45They've been really, really good and I'd like to say thank you

0:42:45 > 0:42:48to them both because without them, this project wouldn't have happened.

0:42:48 > 0:42:50- Think we're all done.- Yep.

0:42:50 > 0:42:51Don't lie! You missed a bit.

0:43:01 > 0:43:03As we've seen today,

0:43:03 > 0:43:06the neighbourhood police work hard getting drugs off our streets

0:43:06 > 0:43:09and tackling antisocial behaviour,

0:43:09 > 0:43:12making our communities safer places to live.

0:43:12 > 0:43:14See you again next time.
