0:02:23 > 0:02:27Armed police!
0:02:32 > 0:02:36While this is just a training exercise, the added threat of
0:02:36 > 0:02:40terrorism has forced the Met to rethink how it uses armed police.
0:02:42 > 0:02:46They've decided to recruit an extra 600 specialist firearms officers,
0:02:46 > 0:02:50bringing the number in the capital to just under 3,000.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59Derek is one of the Met's most experienced firearms officers

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Even the highest judge in the land can't kill somebody,
0:03:10 > 0:03:15but we have the ability to do that.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30..I'm willing to do it.
0:04:13 > 0:04:16Yeah, received, have we done intel checks? Over.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18As Trojan One on shift tonight,
0:04:18 > 0:04:21Derek will be responsible for the Met's armed response.
0:04:22 > 0:04:25- RADIO:- The intel's coming through as quick as they can do it.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27There's nothing as yet, we're just waiting for an update.
0:04:27 > 0:04:31In essence, we have got what we believe to be a male in the street
0:04:31 > 0:04:33in pyjamas, pacing up and down,
0:04:33 > 0:04:37believed to have mental health issues, in possession of a hand gun.
0:04:37 > 0:04:39So we're just trying to...
0:04:39 > 0:04:41just trying to do the best we can
0:04:41 > 0:04:43around trying to get some intelligence about the address
0:04:43 > 0:04:45and also get our resources together,
0:04:45 > 0:04:48so that we are in a position to go and deal with him.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53A ground team has failed to locate the gunman,
0:04:53 > 0:04:56but with fears over his mental health,
0:04:56 > 0:04:58a police helicopter is brought in to search the area.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03We have a view of the suspect.
0:05:03 > 0:05:08Is it possible he could have changed his clothing or anything like that?
0:05:08 > 0:05:13Male, believed to be IC3, tall and skinny build. Slim build.
0:05:13 > 0:05:15Wearing pyjamas, no idea if he's changed.
0:05:18 > 0:05:21He's waiting for someone. Bit suspicious, meets the description.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26Information comes in that the man
0:05:26 > 0:05:28has been seen entering a flat nearby.
0:05:36 > 0:05:38Are we set to go if we've got to go down there?
0:05:39 > 0:05:41- Yeah.- Right, cheers.
0:05:41 > 0:05:44We know that some of the windows are boarded, but not sure which ones.
0:05:44 > 0:05:47We have to get down there because I want to minimise risk to the public.
0:05:47 > 0:05:48I don't want him coming out,
0:05:48 > 0:05:51but then I don't want to provoke anything.
0:05:51 > 0:05:55What we're planning to do now is send the officers down to do
0:05:55 > 0:05:57an armed containment on the address.
0:05:57 > 0:05:58What we're really conscious of is
0:05:58 > 0:06:00the fact we don't want to close him down too much
0:06:00 > 0:06:02because if he's got mental health issues
0:06:02 > 0:06:04we need to give him as much space as possible.
0:06:08 > 0:06:12If we use these weapons, the scrutiny can last two years or more.
0:06:15 > 0:06:20We've had people charged with murder, we've had people arrested.
0:06:20 > 0:06:24If you've got that in the back of your mind, you cannot do this job.
0:06:27 > 0:06:31As a forced entry could result in a violent clash, Derek orders his team
0:06:31 > 0:06:35to knock on the suspect's door to see if he will come out peacefully.
0:06:48 > 0:06:50Hello?
0:06:50 > 0:06:51All right, sir. Just come down here.
0:06:51 > 0:06:53Just come out here, and speak to you, sir.
0:06:53 > 0:06:56- Hello.- Stop there. Just there.- Hello.
0:06:56 > 0:06:59Put your hands, just back, come here, you all right?
0:06:59 > 0:07:02Just put your hands back there. We just need to speak to you.
0:07:02 > 0:07:04Is there anybody else in the address?
0:07:04 > 0:07:08- OK.- Turn around and face the wall for us. Good man.
0:07:13 > 0:07:15Just detaining you for the purpose of a search, OK?
0:07:15 > 0:07:18I'm Constable Williams.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21The reason believed is that you might be in possession of a firearm.
0:07:21 > 0:07:22I'll try to move swiftly.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25You're detained for the purpose of a search, do you understand that?
0:07:25 > 0:07:26Do you know why we're here?
0:07:28 > 0:07:31Have you got any gun? Any real gun? Any toy gun?
0:07:31 > 0:07:33- Where?- And what sort of toy gun is it and where is it?
0:07:33 > 0:07:36And whereabouts is it, mate?
0:07:36 > 0:07:38OK, and where's the bed? If you go through the front door...?
0:07:38 > 0:07:41OK.
0:07:41 > 0:07:44With the man detained, the team can search for the toy gun.
0:07:47 > 0:07:50Fair play to the lady cos that is exactly what she described,
0:07:50 > 0:07:52wasn't it, to be fair?
0:07:52 > 0:07:56We've found what appears to be a bag of Class A under his bed,
0:07:56 > 0:07:59which we're doing on body-worn video as we speak and we'll seize
0:07:59 > 0:08:01it and bring it to custody at Wembley.
0:08:06 > 0:08:10I'm really glad that job went well because that job had the
0:08:10 > 0:08:13potential to be a completely different outcome.
0:08:13 > 0:08:15We dealt with it well, in my opinion.
0:08:15 > 0:08:17The guys are all happy and that means a lot to me.
0:08:17 > 0:08:22They don't want to be wrapped up in everything that comes with
0:08:22 > 0:08:25discharging a firearm whether that's fatal or non-fatal.
0:08:41 > 0:08:45The Met estimate there may be up to 200 organised gangs across
0:08:45 > 0:08:49the capital, accounting for a quarter of all violent crime
0:08:49 > 0:08:51and half of all shootings.
0:08:54 > 0:08:55In north-west London,
0:08:55 > 0:08:58a long-running turf war has had horrific consequences.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03A drive-by shooting of a man walking along a London street
0:09:03 > 0:09:06has been treated as a tragic case of mistaken identity.
0:09:06 > 0:09:09Detectives believe an automatic weapon was used in the
0:09:09 > 0:09:11gang-related attack in Harlesden.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14They say the victim wasn't the intended target.
0:09:16 > 0:09:20The Met believe that Oliver Tetlow was an innocent casualty of
0:09:20 > 0:09:22a violent feud between two gangs.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28Tetlow was shot repeatedly on Church Road,
0:09:28 > 0:09:31the heart of an area notorious for gang violence.
0:09:32 > 0:09:34In the two months since his death,
0:09:34 > 0:09:37at least six other people have been shot on the surrounding streets.
0:09:41 > 0:09:42This area is notorious.
0:09:42 > 0:09:45In February, we had a shooting down the bottom there,
0:09:45 > 0:09:49we've had stabbings around here, muggings.
0:09:49 > 0:09:51It's a worrying thing.
0:09:51 > 0:09:54I remember when I was growing up it wasn't as bad.
0:09:54 > 0:09:56Now it's just... It's just horrific.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00I don't know what to say, but we need help.
0:10:02 > 0:10:04Especially for that murdered one...the
0:10:04 > 0:10:06son who died in front the...
0:10:06 > 0:10:08Oh.
0:10:08 > 0:10:10Sorry.
0:10:11 > 0:10:12We need help, that's all I can say.
0:10:15 > 0:10:18Paul Connelly and Hitesh Patel work for Trident,
0:10:18 > 0:10:21the Met's specialist unit set up to tackle gang violence.
0:10:23 > 0:10:26We are talking about young lads that are stabbing and shooting
0:10:26 > 0:10:29each other over a postcode, you know, and that's not what we want.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31That's not what I want in my community.
0:10:31 > 0:10:34It's just always these tit-for-tat shootings and stabbings,
0:10:34 > 0:10:37which are going on all the time. It's become normal.
0:10:39 > 0:10:42With tensions escalating in Harlesden, Paul and Hitesh
0:10:42 > 0:10:45are tasked with removing one of the gangs.
0:10:47 > 0:10:50Over the past couple of months there's been an increase in
0:10:50 > 0:10:53recent gang tensions, culminating in numerous weapon-related offences,
0:10:53 > 0:10:56most notably the murder in Church Road itself.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59The intention for today solely is to disrupt members of
0:10:59 > 0:11:02the gang through use of current intelligence
0:11:02 > 0:11:04and the tactic of stop and search.
0:11:05 > 0:11:09The large scale stop and search is intended to link suspected gang
0:11:09 > 0:11:13members to serious criminality by uncovering drugs or illegal weapons.
0:11:15 > 0:11:17The reason why we have to stop and search people is because
0:11:17 > 0:11:19there is knife crime, there is drugs being sold.
0:11:19 > 0:11:21If there were no-one committing any of these crimes then there
0:11:21 > 0:11:24wouldn't be a necessity to do it.
0:11:24 > 0:11:26The general consensus of it is that people think it's too
0:11:26 > 0:11:28heavy-handed, it's just done too much,
0:11:28 > 0:11:31but what our plan today is not to just go in and just stop
0:11:31 > 0:11:34anyone that's on that street, it's all going to be intelligence-led.
0:11:38 > 0:11:42While Hitesh and Paul wait out of sight, two unmarked vans are
0:11:42 > 0:11:46sent into the heart of Church Road each one holding 12 officers
0:11:46 > 0:11:49specially trained to carry out the stop and search.
0:11:51 > 0:11:53This live feed is coming from a camera we've got
0:11:53 > 0:11:55just down the road on Church Road.
0:11:55 > 0:11:59The reason we're using this is so we know exactly the right time
0:11:59 > 0:12:00to call on the strike.
0:12:00 > 0:12:02You know, this is what they do every single day.
0:12:02 > 0:12:05They're dealing cannabis, but they're also very heavily
0:12:05 > 0:12:08involved in the Class A supply in this area.
0:12:08 > 0:12:10We've got evidence of this gang drug-dealing from ten o'clock
0:12:10 > 0:12:12in the morning till 2 o'clock in the morning.
0:12:12 > 0:12:14That's open longer than Tesco's.
0:12:14 > 0:12:16You know, we've only got one shot at this,
0:12:16 > 0:12:19we can't use this tactic time and time again because they'll get used
0:12:19 > 0:12:22to it, so we want to get the maximum number of people stopped that
0:12:22 > 0:12:23that we can.
0:12:23 > 0:12:26Looks to be an exchange just there, actually.
0:12:26 > 0:12:28Looks like there's some hand to hand movements, just there.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30Let's go.
0:12:30 > 0:12:32Yeah, no-one. Let's go, mate. Go.
0:12:32 > 0:12:35SIRENS BLARE
0:12:36 > 0:12:38TYRES SCREECH
0:12:54 > 0:12:56What do you think I'm doing?
0:12:56 > 0:12:58Mate, what's the matter?
0:12:58 > 0:13:01- Yeah, relax.- Come on, I don't want my face...- Yeah, relax.
0:13:01 > 0:13:02All right, calm down, man.
0:13:02 > 0:13:05At the moment these boys have all been stopped and searched under
0:13:05 > 0:13:07Section 23 - the Misuse Of Drugs Act by the TSG.
0:13:07 > 0:13:10As you can tell, as predicted, it's a bit of a shock to them.
0:13:10 > 0:13:11Some of them aren't very happy about it.
0:13:11 > 0:13:13There's a strong smell of cannabis around here,
0:13:13 > 0:13:15so I'm pretty confident there'll be some drugs around here somewhere.
0:13:15 > 0:13:17And so what it is, this gentleman's
0:13:17 > 0:13:19been stopped as part of a big group of 'em.
0:13:19 > 0:13:21There's, erm...
0:13:21 > 0:13:23quite an amount of cannabis there,
0:13:23 > 0:13:25there's some cash in the other pocket as well.
0:13:30 > 0:13:33This chap's been nicked for possession with intent to
0:13:33 > 0:13:36supply Class B and apparently another chap over there
0:13:36 > 0:13:37has been nicked for the same thing.
0:13:37 > 0:13:40Loads of money been found and it's the right people as well,
0:13:40 > 0:13:42so it's been good.
0:13:42 > 0:13:44Obviously, as you can see, all the community are out.
0:13:44 > 0:13:47Everyone's out so they're loving what's happening...
0:13:47 > 0:13:48to a certain degree.
0:13:51 > 0:13:54Three people have been arrested for drug offences,
0:13:54 > 0:13:57but some of the locals are unhappy with the police tactics.
0:13:58 > 0:14:00I don't feel too good about it.
0:14:00 > 0:14:04I just don't like the way the situation is approached.
0:14:04 > 0:14:05They come in here pushing my cousin
0:14:05 > 0:14:07when they're not even involved,
0:14:07 > 0:14:09they just finish and just passing through
0:14:09 > 0:14:11earing up everybody like usual.
0:14:11 > 0:14:14I think that's wrong. It's too aggressive,
0:14:14 > 0:14:16and then when we are aggressive it's a different story,
0:14:16 > 0:14:18so that's what I'm saying, end of story.
0:14:18 > 0:14:21- young boy lost his life down there...- Yeah, I know.
0:14:21 > 0:14:22..three months ago.
0:14:22 > 0:14:25And we know he had nothing to do with any gangs, nothing like that.
0:14:25 > 0:14:28- Who's come forward and said who did it?- Yeah.- This is what I was saying.
0:14:28 > 0:14:29No-one's done it, no-one's come forward.
0:14:29 > 0:14:32A lot of people around here see YOU as the problem.
0:14:32 > 0:14:37We are the animals, right? And you are somehow the gatekeepers.
0:14:37 > 0:14:40Right? That's how you come across to us.
0:14:40 > 0:14:42- OK.- It's as simple as that.
0:14:42 > 0:14:45Those kind of looks are those kind of looks that I am used to.
0:14:46 > 0:14:50- You lock people away, right? You stop and search...- Innocent people?
0:14:50 > 0:14:55- Yes.- Really?- Yes. I've been stopped and searched 17 times in my life.
0:14:55 > 0:14:57- Mm.- And nothing was ever found. - Mm-hmm.
0:14:57 > 0:15:02Most of the black people growing up around here feel that the
0:15:02 > 0:15:04police is against them.
0:15:04 > 0:15:06Do you accept that there was a boy that got killed here three
0:15:06 > 0:15:08- months ago?- I do accept that.
0:15:08 > 0:15:10Did you know that there was a firearms incident here at the
0:15:10 > 0:15:12- weekend?- I do accept that. - What do you want the police to do?
0:15:12 > 0:15:14How are we supposed to respond to it?
0:15:14 > 0:15:17Right, if the police was actually around before the person got shot
0:15:17 > 0:15:20and they actually did their intelligence work properly,
0:15:20 > 0:15:22that person would not have been shot.
0:15:22 > 0:15:25The police needs to change the way it polices, right,
0:15:25 > 0:15:27if it wants people to cooperate.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30Because at the moment you are really applying a them and us mentality.
0:15:33 > 0:15:36I think the problem we've got is that a lot of people just think
0:15:36 > 0:15:38police are against the black community, like they keep saying.
0:15:38 > 0:15:42I mean, I'm an ethnic minority myself. I don't think there's racist
0:15:42 > 0:15:45attitudes. The chap earlier said about us engaging with the public.
0:15:45 > 0:15:48We try. I used to work in Hackney, we used to do it all the time,
0:15:48 > 0:15:50but some of these boys are so far entrenched in to the gang

0:15:55 > 0:15:58not going to, sadly, get out of it, unfortunately.
0:15:58 > 0:16:00No-one has been assaulted, no-one has been punched,
0:16:00 > 0:16:02no-one has been placed on the floor.
0:16:02 > 0:16:03I've seen arguments with people, that's it.
0:16:03 > 0:16:06If people think that's oppressive, I'm not quite sure how we're supposed
0:16:06 > 0:16:08to react to people that we think have got knives on them.
0:16:08 > 0:16:11It was an intelligence-led stop and that's what people want.
0:16:11 > 0:16:13By using this tactic we got drugs back tonight,
0:16:13 > 0:16:15we may have weapons back tonight,
0:16:15 > 0:16:18undoubtedly we'll prevent any more crime and anti-social behaviour.
0:16:18 > 0:16:21If we come down in an hour's time, you know, there'll be the normal
0:16:21 > 0:16:24residents going about their business which is exactly what we want.
0:16:24 > 0:16:26What there won't be is people selling drugs on the street.
0:16:26 > 0:16:27And that's why we've done it.
0:16:49 > 0:16:53In North London, Sgt Steve Brown runs a team dedicated to tackling
0:16:53 > 0:16:55an epidemic of phone snatching.
0:16:56 > 0:16:59This is what they will do. They will look around, steal the
0:16:59 > 0:17:02mopeds and then take them to go and do all the snatches.
0:17:06 > 0:17:07Around the corner from the stolen bikes,
0:17:07 > 0:17:11three local kids spot Steve's car and run off.
0:17:14 > 0:17:18Stand there for me. Just stand there. You're going to be searched under Section One of
0:17:18 > 0:17:19the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
0:17:19 > 0:17:22There's two stolen mopeds around the corner and they've been
0:17:22 > 0:17:25stolen with keys, so therefore I'm searching you for those keys.
0:17:27 > 0:17:30No. I've just told you a reason.
0:17:30 > 0:17:32I just told you the reason.
0:17:35 > 0:17:38How many phone snatches are you on bail for? 15?
0:17:41 > 0:17:43It's not good, is it?
0:17:47 > 0:17:50Over the last five years, moped snatch robberies have increased
0:17:50 > 0:17:52tenfold across London.
0:17:54 > 0:17:57Islington is a hotspot with just under 100 phone snatches
0:17:57 > 0:18:01a month recorded in 2016.
0:18:01 > 0:18:03Many on stolen mopeds.
0:18:03 > 0:18:06It's a very lucrative crime, it happens within seconds.
0:18:06 > 0:18:09You're on your mobile phone walking along the street and,
0:18:09 > 0:18:10before you know it,
0:18:10 > 0:18:13somebody's come up from behind you and snatched your phone and
0:18:13 > 0:18:16all you basically see is the back of them on a moped, dark clothing.
0:18:19 > 0:18:23The suspects can sell the phones on for quite a good profit.
0:18:24 > 0:18:28Those same people will be involved in gang violence.
0:18:28 > 0:18:32They will go out as a crew and they will nick five/six phones...
0:18:33 > 0:18:34..and then go to ground.
0:18:36 > 0:18:40The number of snatches has risen, but the age of the offenders is
0:18:40 > 0:18:43falling. The most arrested age being between 15 and 17 years old.
0:18:46 > 0:18:48Do you not think phone snatching is scummy?
0:18:51 > 0:18:54You robbed a phone the other day off a pregnant woman.
0:18:55 > 0:18:58She was pregnant, she was pregnant.
0:18:58 > 0:19:00You don't care. Typical, eh?
0:19:02 > 0:19:04All right boys, we're finished with you.
0:19:04 > 0:19:05Yeah. Do your job properly.
0:19:05 > 0:19:08Hopefully I will do and I'll catch you doing something later.
0:19:10 > 0:19:14With no moped keys or stolen property found, Steve lets the boys go.
0:19:14 > 0:19:18Arrested 60-odd times, phone snatches, on bail
0:19:18 > 0:19:20for 15 phone snatches.
0:19:20 > 0:19:24Nice! Parents must be really proud!
0:19:26 > 0:19:28Society today, eh?
0:19:38 > 0:19:42This is the estate where I grew up. Really good estate.
0:19:42 > 0:19:44Good friends from here.
0:19:44 > 0:19:47And, ironically, it is now where I police.
0:19:50 > 0:19:51This is where I used to live.
0:19:53 > 0:19:55That's my old house, there.
0:19:56 > 0:20:00I think it's quite rare now in the Met that you have a proper Londoner
0:20:00 > 0:20:03that grew up in London, you know.
0:20:04 > 0:20:09Yeah, a majority of my childhood's been spent here, in the Barnsbury.
0:20:09 > 0:20:12It brings back a lot of memories. Really good times here.
0:20:12 > 0:20:14This was my manor, you know what I mean,
0:20:14 > 0:20:19as I kid I used to run around this manor all day long and now as
0:20:19 > 0:20:22an adult at 38, I'm still running around this manor, but I'm on
0:20:22 > 0:20:25the other side now, ain't I, chasing 'em!
0:20:25 > 0:20:27It's weird seeing them because...
0:20:27 > 0:20:30they speak to you as if you don't know what it's like round here.
0:20:30 > 0:20:34Little do they know this was my place before they were even
0:20:34 > 0:20:36a twinkle star in the sky.
0:20:36 > 0:20:38You know what I mean? I've been there, done it, you know.
0:20:41 > 0:20:45I think society has changed an awful lot.
0:20:45 > 0:20:49When I was younger, yeah, we was mischievous, got into trouble,
0:20:49 > 0:20:51but you didn't get arrested.
0:20:51 > 0:20:56Now it's not uncommon for a 14/15-year-old to have been
0:20:56 > 0:20:59arrested ten times already and those can involve serious crimes
0:20:59 > 0:21:04like burglary, robbery, carrying knives etc.
0:21:04 > 0:21:09So it has changed an awful lot with regards to areas like this where
0:21:09 > 0:21:11I grew up on.
0:21:27 > 0:21:29It's 10pm.
0:21:29 > 0:21:32Derek and the firearms team have been called to assist with
0:21:32 > 0:21:35a case involving a suspected gang member.
0:21:39 > 0:21:42We believe from information received -
0:21:42 > 0:21:44and that's all you need to know -
0:21:44 > 0:21:49is that a male is coming to an address some time tonight
0:21:49 > 0:21:51to collect a firearm from an unknown female.
0:21:51 > 0:21:54We believe at the moment that that gun is in the address.
0:21:54 > 0:21:57We're not sure if there's anybody in the address with it.
0:21:59 > 0:22:01There was a local shooting last night and
0:22:01 > 0:22:04as with these things, unfortunately,
0:22:04 > 0:22:07what happened last night spills over into tonight.
0:22:07 > 0:22:10That firearm may well get used as a retaliation.
0:22:10 > 0:22:13The real objective is to recover that firearm...
0:22:14 > 0:22:16..and arrest anybody that's associated with it.
0:22:16 > 0:22:17Yeah, just for your information,
0:22:17 > 0:22:20we've obtained a warrant for our address.
0:22:21 > 0:22:23So we're going forward to execute that now.
0:22:26 > 0:22:30CHATTER ON POLICE RADIO
0:22:30 > 0:22:33With intelligence suggesting the man is on his way to retrieve the gun,
0:22:33 > 0:22:37the decision is made to force entry to the flat and find
0:22:37 > 0:22:38the weapon before he does.
0:22:44 > 0:22:45Armed police!
0:22:45 > 0:22:47Armed police! Open the door.
0:22:49 > 0:22:51DOG BARKS
0:22:51 > 0:22:54Two people are immediately arrested and taken away,
0:22:54 > 0:22:58but it's the flat's third occupant who is of most interest.
0:23:01 > 0:23:02She's obviously quite scared.
0:23:04 > 0:23:07What she's told the officers is that she's got a gun.
0:23:11 > 0:23:13OK, down there.
0:23:13 > 0:23:17Obviously it's on a police evidence bag.
0:23:17 > 0:23:21It's not been made safe. It looks like a self-loading pistol.
0:23:22 > 0:23:24So, in other words, magazine into the bottom of it.
0:23:24 > 0:23:26It'll be a semi-automatic pistol,
0:23:26 > 0:23:29so every time you pull the trigger it'll fire a round.
0:23:29 > 0:23:33If you were convicted of an offence of possession of
0:23:33 > 0:23:36a firearm, it would be a minimum sentence of five years.
0:23:39 > 0:23:42Although the gun has been seized, its suspected owner is still
0:23:42 > 0:23:46at large, but cameras have spotted him a mile away in his car.
0:23:49 > 0:23:51Control.
0:23:51 > 0:23:52RADIO CHATTER
0:23:54 > 0:23:56We believe he may have the vehicle...
0:23:59 > 0:24:01Can you confirm it's got a black roof?
0:24:01 > 0:24:04Control. We're two behind this vehicle...
0:24:07 > 0:24:09INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER
0:24:11 > 0:24:14The helicopter is over it at the moment cos we obviously
0:24:14 > 0:24:16don't want to scare him into making off.
0:24:16 > 0:24:19So what we're going to do is...
0:24:19 > 0:24:21do a handover from helicopter to the armed response vehicles
0:24:21 > 0:24:26and then we'll put the stop in and hopefully arrest him.
0:24:29 > 0:24:30Control, MPS61, we are happy that
0:24:30 > 0:24:34this is the same vehicle that's being talked about by the dog van.
0:24:34 > 0:24:35If you want us to take over the commentary,
0:24:35 > 0:24:37I'm more than happy to do so.
0:24:40 > 0:24:42As they need to act quickly,
0:24:42 > 0:24:45the armed response vehicles move in convoy towards the car.
0:24:47 > 0:24:49That's it.
0:24:49 > 0:24:51If you can give me a commentary on this channel.
0:25:03 > 0:25:05With the suspect in their sights,
0:25:05 > 0:25:07they prepare to surround the vehicle.
0:25:14 > 0:25:16They've stopped him.
0:25:26 > 0:25:29OK, so the bloke in the white T-shirt is going to be
0:25:29 > 0:25:32arrested for the suspected possession of that firearm.
0:25:32 > 0:25:34So, how long have you been at the hostel?
0:25:37 > 0:25:38Two or three months.
0:25:38 > 0:25:41Where were you before then?
0:25:41 > 0:25:43Oh, OK.
0:25:45 > 0:25:49The gang members, they think nothing of shooting somebody.
0:25:49 > 0:25:51Life is cheap to them.
0:25:51 > 0:25:55And whether that's because they see that they've got no future,
0:25:55 > 0:25:56I don't know.
0:25:57 > 0:25:58- You working?- Yes.- What as?
0:26:00 > 0:26:02Oh, OK. Is that around here?
0:26:04 > 0:26:06Probably like an addiction for them.
0:26:06 > 0:26:09They've got their parallel lives, but they still come back to it.
0:26:09 > 0:26:12They go to prison, they come back to it.
0:26:12 > 0:26:16You know, they leave school and they start going to, you know,
0:26:16 > 0:26:19into work and they still get drawn back to it.
0:26:19 > 0:26:22There are times when you do think, you know,
0:26:22 > 0:26:25"I feel sorry for this guy," but then you still have to be conscious
0:26:25 > 0:26:28of the fact that maybe they've put themselves there.
0:26:53 > 0:26:56In North London, Sgt Steve Brown has spotted
0:26:56 > 0:26:58a moped that may be involved in phone snatches.
0:27:03 > 0:27:05Put it up on main set, please.
0:27:07 > 0:27:10When the moped fails to stop, Steve must get formal approval from
0:27:10 > 0:27:13the Control Room to continue the pursuit.
0:27:28 > 0:27:32When the passenger takes his helmet off, Steve makes the decision

0:27:44 > 0:27:46A few months ago Steve was pursuing a moped,
0:27:46 > 0:27:48when it crashed into a taxi.
0:27:49 > 0:27:52That's me running out of the car.
0:27:52 > 0:27:53I detained him off the moped.
0:27:53 > 0:27:56Unfortunately, he suffered a broken leg, erm,
0:27:56 > 0:27:58from his injuries through the crash.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02He was actually searched and found to be in possession of
0:28:02 > 0:28:04a large quantity of drugs.
0:28:07 > 0:28:11Erm, it's shocking, but we are not going to let people on mopeds
0:28:11 > 0:28:15just carte blanche commit crime and do nothing about it.
0:28:15 > 0:28:18That's not what I believe the majority of the public want
0:28:18 > 0:28:21us to do, and that's not what I personally will do.
0:28:23 > 0:28:26In Islington, the police pursuit policy has been controversial
0:28:26 > 0:28:29since the death of a local teenager on a moped.
0:28:30 > 0:28:33The police watchdog is investigating the death of a teenager who

0:28:46 > 0:28:49The events leading up to Henry's death are still under investigation

0:28:56 > 0:29:00Paul, can we get the last known direction of this snatch moped, please?
0:29:00 > 0:29:02Today Steve's team are tracking two suspects on a moped,
0:29:02 > 0:29:07who have reportedly been snatching phones across the city.
0:29:07 > 0:29:12So they've gone Southwark, Islington, Hackney,
0:29:12 > 0:29:14now we're out in Tower Hamlets.
0:29:14 > 0:29:17And it's been seen to be armed with knives
0:29:18 > 0:29:20That's the bike.
0:29:20 > 0:29:24Using the Find My Phone function they track one of the stolen
0:29:24 > 0:29:25handsets back to Islington.
0:29:26 > 0:29:28He was in this area...
0:29:29 > 0:29:31..six minutes before we got here,
0:29:31 > 0:29:35but what they've done is got here, turned the phones off immediately
0:29:35 > 0:29:37and this is the location we heard from them.
0:29:37 > 0:29:39So we're literally only about four minutes behind them.
0:29:42 > 0:29:44Royal Free Square!
0:29:46 > 0:29:48The suspects have been spotted nearby.
0:29:51 > 0:29:53SIREN BLARES

0:30:19 > 0:30:24- All right, all right, all right. Relax!- I'm not doing nothing. Relax!
0:30:24 > 0:30:26I'm absolutely calm, boss.
0:30:26 > 0:30:29- Sit down and stop mucking around. - Stop resisting.
0:30:29 > 0:30:31Keep your hands where I can see them. Do you understand?
0:30:31 > 0:30:33Relax!
0:30:33 > 0:30:37The large police presence has drawn the attention of locals,
0:30:37 > 0:30:40including the family of Henry Hicks.
0:30:49 > 0:30:51Them guys killed my son.
0:30:51 > 0:30:53Oi, he ain't done nothing!
0:30:53 > 0:30:55- Hey, hey, stand back.- No, you...
0:30:55 > 0:30:57Don't touch my mum! Don't touch my mum!
0:30:57 > 0:31:01Don't fucking touch me! Go and get some real criminals!
0:31:01 > 0:31:03Fucking wankers!
0:31:04 > 0:31:07Just chased another fucking motorbike, have you?
0:31:07 > 0:31:11Ain't you clever? Fucking arsehole clever, ain't you?
0:31:13 > 0:31:15Is it quite difficult in situations like that?
0:31:15 > 0:31:18Um, to be honest with you, it's to be expected.
0:31:18 > 0:31:22We've obviously chased two robbers through the estate,
0:31:22 > 0:31:24and then out of the blue, the Hicks family,
0:31:24 > 0:31:28cos they live nearby, come straight up to us, trying to
0:31:28 > 0:31:31tell us, "Go after proper criminals," what are we doing harassing them?
0:31:31 > 0:31:36And turning it all about into their case they've got going on.
0:31:36 > 0:31:39Basically what they were trying to do, and I don't mind it being
0:31:39 > 0:31:42on camera, the Hicks family there, is protect criminals.
0:31:42 > 0:31:43That's what they were trying to do.
0:31:43 > 0:31:47Trying to stop us from doing our job, from them two lads who
0:31:47 > 0:31:50have been all the way across London, robbing females of their phones.
0:31:52 > 0:31:53I'll leave it up to you to decide.
0:31:59 > 0:32:01On arrest, the two teenagers are searched,
0:32:01 > 0:32:04but they are not carrying any of the stolen phones.
0:32:04 > 0:32:06No, they've definitely come up there.
0:32:06 > 0:32:08We've got the bike around the corner.
0:32:08 > 0:32:11- There's going to be a rucksack somewhere.- Yeah, that's what...
0:32:11 > 0:32:12Cos he had the rucksack on,
0:32:12 > 0:32:16so he's literally come up that road there and bumped straight into you.
0:32:16 > 0:32:20We think it's an iPhone. It's a case.
0:32:20 > 0:32:2318 phones have been reported stolen.
0:32:23 > 0:32:27So far they've found some cases, but only one handset.
0:32:29 > 0:32:33So, he must have ditched the rucksack from this point.
0:32:36 > 0:32:39It's inevitable, they must have took a left turn here.
0:32:41 > 0:32:45- Is there someone in there.- Uh? - Oh, can you go through?- Yeah.
0:32:45 > 0:32:48- See that red and grey one there? - See the red and grey one there?
0:32:48 > 0:32:51I think they've lobbed it over and it's come through.
0:33:02 > 0:33:05Oh! All the phones.
0:33:05 > 0:33:07There's loads.
0:33:07 > 0:33:11There's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
0:33:11 > 0:33:12nine, ten, 11...
0:33:12 > 0:33:14About 15 phones.
0:33:17 > 0:33:19THEY LAUGH
0:33:21 > 0:33:22You beauty.
0:33:22 > 0:33:26So, he's literally run through, and then as he's running,
0:33:26 > 0:33:29he's lobbed the bag over.
0:33:43 > 0:33:46On the black market, each one of them,
0:33:46 > 0:33:49you're looking at their sell-on - 100, 150 each.
0:33:49 > 0:33:51So, how many phones we've got there?
0:33:51 > 0:33:54You're looking at about two and a half grand in total.
0:33:56 > 0:33:59- Oh, yeah, baby!- Oh-ho!
0:33:59 > 0:34:03- Weren't this reported in a knife fight and all that earlier?- Yes.
0:34:05 > 0:34:07And that's what they've also had in the rucksack.
0:34:07 > 0:34:12The moped was reported on another borough being involved in an
0:34:12 > 0:34:14altercation with combat knives as well,
0:34:14 > 0:34:18and that's obviously the sort of people you're dealing with.
0:34:19 > 0:34:21That's a nasty knife.
0:34:22 > 0:34:25You get massive satisfaction from a job like that.
0:34:25 > 0:34:29They've done so many robberies all across London,
0:34:29 > 0:34:31and to actually get them yourself,
0:34:31 > 0:34:34and get all the phones back to the victims,
0:34:34 > 0:34:38and take a knife on the street, and get the stolen phone, yeah,
0:34:38 > 0:34:40it's a good result, it's a good result.
0:34:40 > 0:34:41It's organised crime.
0:34:43 > 0:34:46SIREN BLARES
0:34:52 > 0:34:54Six miles away in north-west London,
0:34:54 > 0:34:57the Trident team have been investigating
0:34:57 > 0:35:00a gang thought to be involved in a recent spate of shootings.
0:35:04 > 0:35:06For the last three months,
0:35:06 > 0:35:0913 individuals believed to have links to the gang
0:35:09 > 0:35:10have been put under surveillance,
0:35:10 > 0:35:14which has connected them to large-scale drug dealing.
0:35:14 > 0:35:17We've noticed that they're involved in a lot of violence
0:35:17 > 0:35:19within the area. However, proving
0:35:19 > 0:35:22that is proving to be difficult.
0:35:22 > 0:35:23Without witnesses, without forensics,
0:35:23 > 0:35:27we're not going to get these guys for the violence offences.
0:35:27 > 0:35:30Our aim is to get them off the streets any which way we can, really.
0:35:30 > 0:35:33And if it means not a violence offence,
0:35:33 > 0:35:35and it's drug dealing, then so be it.
0:35:38 > 0:35:41They hope that by removing key gang members from the area,
0:35:41 > 0:35:44they may bring to an end the violence on the streets.
0:35:47 > 0:35:49Oh, look. This is our convoy on the right.
0:35:52 > 0:35:56Days like this are good, because it's 10, 12, 15
0:35:56 > 0:35:58addresses all getting done at the same time.
0:35:58 > 0:36:01And they're totally oblivious to it all because they're fast asleep.
0:36:04 > 0:36:06- Police!- Police!
0:36:06 > 0:36:09THEY SHOUT
0:36:09 > 0:36:13More than 100 officers have been brought in for the dawn raids.
0:36:13 > 0:36:17- Police officers!- ON RADIO:- Yeah, stand by, stand by.
0:36:17 > 0:36:19'The main thing we want to try and do is make sure
0:36:19 > 0:36:20'the subject gets arrested.
0:36:20 > 0:36:23'Any drugs or weapons, obviously, is a bonus,
0:36:23 > 0:36:26'but our first and foremost priority is getting the subject.'
0:36:28 > 0:36:31Just keep walking to the van, mate.
0:36:33 > 0:36:36The suspects are picked off one by one...
0:36:37 > 0:36:40..and their homes are searched by a specialist team.
0:36:42 > 0:36:44In here, is it, or...?
0:36:45 > 0:36:47On a nearby estate,
0:36:47 > 0:36:51Hitesh has been called to the home of a woman and her young child.
0:36:51 > 0:36:54It is believed the gang are using the flat to stash drugs,
0:36:54 > 0:36:58but the search team have made another discovery.
0:36:58 > 0:37:01There's a Taser there. It was found in a jacket in the cupboard.
0:37:01 > 0:37:05Yeah, we do have the odd gang boys who do have Tasers.
0:37:06 > 0:37:09Especially ones like this which don't necessarily look like anything.
0:37:09 > 0:37:12It could be... It could quite easily be an old camera or
0:37:12 > 0:37:14a mobile phone or anything, couldn't it?
0:37:14 > 0:37:17And being in the girl's bedroom, like, a small child, she could
0:37:17 > 0:37:21quite easily pick that up, thinking, "What is this, Mummy?"
0:37:21 > 0:37:24Whilst mum is fast asleep, she is there messing around with this,
0:37:24 > 0:37:26and pressing a few buttons,
0:37:26 > 0:37:28and before you know it, she's tasered herself.
0:37:32 > 0:37:34As it's classed as a firearm,
0:37:34 > 0:37:37possession of a stun gun can result in a five-year sentence.
0:37:47 > 0:37:49If you can go this side for me, please, mate.
0:37:52 > 0:37:55So far, most of the targets have been arrested.
0:37:56 > 0:37:58As well as drugs,
0:37:58 > 0:38:01thousands of pounds have been seized as part of the raids.
0:38:02 > 0:38:05This is probably the biggest find of the day so far.
0:38:05 > 0:38:08- It's been seized from- BLEEP
0:38:08 > 0:38:11who is Subject Everton in our operation.
0:38:11 > 0:38:13He's sat on a good £5,000 here.
0:38:13 > 0:38:17If he fails to account for this money, this will be seized from him,
0:38:17 > 0:38:19and this will go back into the public purse.
0:38:19 > 0:38:22What we do find with these boys is they love to show off their cash.
0:38:22 > 0:38:24They love to take photographs of themselves holding loads of money
0:38:24 > 0:38:27and show off to their mates on their Facebook and Twitter accounts
0:38:27 > 0:38:28and stuff like that.
0:38:28 > 0:38:30And I assure you, nothing hurts these people more
0:38:30 > 0:38:32than us taking their money.
0:38:32 > 0:38:35A number of other items have also been found that link the group
0:38:35 > 0:38:36to drug dealing.
0:38:36 > 0:38:39This person here has not one phone...
0:38:39 > 0:38:42He's 18 years old, doesn't work...
0:38:42 > 0:38:44Two...
0:38:44 > 0:38:47three...
0:38:47 > 0:38:48four...five phones.
0:38:48 > 0:38:52These are quite typical of what we find in people
0:38:52 > 0:38:54that are involved in drug supply.
0:38:54 > 0:38:57These are identical phones. These phones are dual-SIM phones and so,
0:38:57 > 0:39:00potentially, just in these three phones there,
0:39:00 > 0:39:02he's got the capability of six different phone lines.
0:39:02 > 0:39:06He could have an incoming call for drug dealing and an outgoing call
0:39:06 > 0:39:09to call his friends, and he can give various different phone numbers.
0:39:09 > 0:39:12And it's obviously a tactic. These guys aren't completely stupid.
0:39:12 > 0:39:14They do know that the police are...
0:39:14 > 0:39:17The methodology that the police can use around phones.
0:39:17 > 0:39:19And they're a bit wise to it.
0:39:21 > 0:39:24With strong evidence of each suspect selling drugs,
0:39:24 > 0:39:27they are facing jail sentences of up to four years.
0:39:28 > 0:39:29- BLEEP,- yeah?- Yeah.
0:39:29 > 0:39:33We're going to go through some charges in a moment. OK, mate?
0:39:33 > 0:39:35I've got to read them all out to you...
0:39:35 > 0:39:38All these boys will be getting criminal behaviour orders
0:39:38 > 0:39:39for five years,
0:39:39 > 0:39:42so that'll prevent these 13 from going anywhere near the Church Road.
0:39:42 > 0:39:47Which is good because all the locals all see these boys.
0:39:47 > 0:39:50These are the ones that hang around on the street,
0:39:50 > 0:39:53so to not be there for five years is a big thing.
0:39:56 > 0:39:59From past history, there's always going to be some younger guys
0:39:59 > 0:40:02who are going to step up into these boys' shoes
0:40:02 > 0:40:06because the money to be earned is such a vast amount.
0:40:06 > 0:40:08It's what attracts these boys.
0:40:10 > 0:40:13Sadly, I've done this job long enough and been around gangs
0:40:13 > 0:40:16long enough to know that none of these boys will change.
0:40:17 > 0:40:20That's not me being negative, but it's reality.
0:40:35 > 0:40:39- ALL:- Justice!- When do we want it?- Now!- What do we want...
0:40:39 > 0:40:43Since the death of Henry Hicks, his family have led a campaign
0:40:43 > 0:40:46to reveal more details about the events that led to his moped crash.
0:40:46 > 0:40:48We want justice!
0:40:52 > 0:40:56The family believe it was the pursuit by two unmarked police cars
0:40:56 > 0:40:57that caused his death.
0:40:59 > 0:41:02We've only just started this protest at the moment.
0:41:02 > 0:41:05They're not giving me, my wife and my family no comments
0:41:05 > 0:41:08at all why my son died, why he was chased.
0:41:08 > 0:41:12This will go on and on and on until we get answers.
0:41:13 > 0:41:16Two years since their protest began,
0:41:16 > 0:41:19the Hicks family are still waiting.
0:41:19 > 0:41:22We've been treated disgustingly by the police.
0:41:23 > 0:41:24It's been over two years now.
0:41:24 > 0:41:27We're still sort of in the same place as we was when it happened.
0:41:27 > 0:41:29We don't really have many answers.
0:41:29 > 0:41:32We don't want anyone else to have to go through what we've gone through.
0:41:32 > 0:41:34It is so hard.
0:41:34 > 0:41:37They need to think about other people's safety.
0:41:37 > 0:41:40I mean, they're going around chasing these young children...
0:41:40 > 0:41:42And was it really worth it?
0:41:44 > 0:41:47I will never, ever, ever get over losing my baby brother.
0:41:48 > 0:41:51It just breaks my heart that I'm never going to see him again.
0:41:51 > 0:41:55He was everything to all of us, and we just miss him so much.
0:41:59 > 0:42:02Today, the Met Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe
0:42:02 > 0:42:06is in Islington to chair a public meeting.
0:42:06 > 0:42:10Henry Hicks' family have also come.
0:42:10 > 0:42:12Right, good evening, everybody. Welcome.
0:42:12 > 0:42:15Thanks for coming. London being a big place, I don't get enough
0:42:15 > 0:42:19opportunity to either meet my own staff or members of the public.
0:42:19 > 0:42:23So, in a city of this size, with 8.6 million people, 32 boroughs,
0:42:23 > 0:42:26it's just quite a hard challenge to meet people very often.
0:42:26 > 0:42:29But at least it gives me some flavour of the issues.
0:42:29 > 0:42:31And hopefully the people who are in the room have got a chance
0:42:31 > 0:42:32to ask a few questions.
0:42:35 > 0:42:37Yes.
0:42:53 > 0:42:56And I'm Henry's dad.
0:42:56 > 0:43:01My son got stopped 156 times in a three years.
0:43:01 > 0:43:03Stop and searches.
0:43:03 > 0:43:05Never been arrested.
0:43:05 > 0:43:08Never had a conviction.
0:43:08 > 0:43:13So, could you tell me why my son got stopped 156 times?
0:43:13 > 0:43:15Could you answer that question?
0:43:15 > 0:43:17APPLAUSE
0:43:20 > 0:43:22Now, for the Hicks family, first of all,
0:43:22 > 0:43:24I'm sorry about the loss of your son.
0:43:24 > 0:43:28And I know that nothing I can say or do will put that right.
0:43:29 > 0:43:33So, on the 18th May it was decided by the Crown Prosecution Service
0:43:33 > 0:43:35that the officers would not face criminal charges,
0:43:35 > 0:43:37which I believe you have been told about.
0:43:37 > 0:43:40What is now happening is the IPCC and the Met
0:43:40 > 0:43:42have got to decide whether the officers should face
0:43:42 > 0:43:44any misconduct charges.
0:43:44 > 0:43:46So, that's a second stage which delays it.
0:43:46 > 0:43:48So, all I can say is that, in this case,
0:43:48 > 0:43:52the suspension wasn't appropriate but a restriction of duties was.
0:43:52 > 0:43:54What that means is that they won't meet the public, generally.
0:43:54 > 0:43:57Now, the other part, as you said, is about the stop search element
0:43:57 > 0:44:01and whether Henry was stopped and searched too much, and improperly, or not.
0:44:01 > 0:44:03I don't know what happened on all those occasions you've mentioned
0:44:03 > 0:44:07and I'd be misleading you to give you any comfort
0:44:07 > 0:44:09that I could judge it one way or another,
0:44:09 > 0:44:11because, as you know, there is an inquest to be held
0:44:11 > 0:44:13really in a matter of days into Henry's death,
0:44:13 > 0:44:16which is under the coroner, and they will
0:44:16 > 0:44:19obviously have to hear all the evidence and decide what they feel.
0:44:19 > 0:44:21- Thank you very much. Very kind of you.- Thank you very much.
0:44:21 > 0:44:24- Thank you so much. Have a nice evening.- Good evening.- Good evening.
0:44:24 > 0:44:27The coroner's report will provide an answer to the question of whether
0:44:27 > 0:44:29Henry died from reckless driving
0:44:29 > 0:44:33or as a result of a police pursuit.
0:44:33 > 0:44:36Of course, it's terrible, they've lost a son.
0:44:36 > 0:44:39I can't answer all their questions, and clearly people in the audience
0:44:39 > 0:44:42know a little about the story but not everything.
0:44:42 > 0:44:44But at least they had an opportunity in front of other people
0:44:44 > 0:44:47to make their point.
0:44:47 > 0:44:49I hope people found it was useful.
0:45:00 > 0:45:01POLICE SIREN WAILS
0:45:01 > 0:45:05It's 11pm, and Derek gets a call from Trident
0:45:05 > 0:45:07requesting urgent backup.
0:45:07 > 0:45:08INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER
0:45:08 > 0:45:10But he's doing 60 down the Cricklewood Broadway,
0:45:10 > 0:45:13which is going to be hard for the surveillance team to stay with that.
0:45:13 > 0:45:17Intelligence has come in that a suspect being tracked in a car
0:45:17 > 0:45:20has a gun on him, so the armed response teams have been called in
0:45:20 > 0:45:22to try and stop the vehicle.
0:45:25 > 0:45:26He's southbound Cricklewood Broadway,
0:45:26 > 0:45:29so he's southbound Kilburn High Road, down towards Cricklewood Broadway,
0:45:29 > 0:45:32which will actually bring us out right on him down here.
0:45:39 > 0:45:41Oh. Right. Knock it off.
0:45:41 > 0:45:43Go that way, then knock it off.
0:45:44 > 0:45:46The suspect is now inside a building,
0:45:46 > 0:45:49and being watched by a covert Trident unit.
0:45:49 > 0:45:53So, the firearms team meet nearby to plan their next move.
0:45:55 > 0:45:58If we think they are in possession of a gun, we want them and the gun.
0:46:00 > 0:46:02If he's gone into the premises,
0:46:02 > 0:46:04we would need a warrant to go into that premises.
0:46:05 > 0:46:08The decision in this occasion is that we wait for the person
0:46:08 > 0:46:11or persons to come back to the vehicle.
0:46:12 > 0:46:15When the vehicle starts to move off,
0:46:15 > 0:46:18the surveillance team will follow it and then we will do the stop.
0:46:20 > 0:46:22The suspect is back on the move,
0:46:22 > 0:46:24and being tracked by the covert unit.
0:46:25 > 0:46:28The surveillance team will get behind him and then hopefully
0:46:28 > 0:46:31we'll leapfrog the surveillance team and put the stop in.
0:46:35 > 0:46:38The problem is, he's making progress as well,
0:46:38 > 0:46:40so he's undertaking vehicles as well.
0:46:41 > 0:46:43We're playing catch-up at the moment.
0:46:43 > 0:46:46Head towards Ladbroke Grove, Ladbroke Grove, over.
0:46:48 > 0:46:50Right. It's gone to State Amber,
0:46:50 > 0:46:52which means it's down to us to stop it.
0:46:53 > 0:46:55Knock it off.
0:46:56 > 0:46:59'The only time you're going to use that gun is if you believe there
0:46:59 > 0:47:01'is an imminent threat to life.
0:47:01 > 0:47:04'If their honestly held belief is that person has got a firearm,
0:47:04 > 0:47:08'well, then they may have to use their firearm to deal with that threat.'
0:47:08 > 0:47:11Guys, we're down at... Stand by...
0:47:11 > 0:47:13Beaufort Street.
0:47:14 > 0:47:17Intelligence comes in that there's more than one person in the car,
0:47:17 > 0:47:20and with it speeding towards central London,
0:47:20 > 0:47:22the firearms team have to make the stop.
0:47:24 > 0:47:27State Red. Don't get too close. Don't get too close.
0:47:27 > 0:47:30There's that... It's their Focus. Yeah.
0:47:44 > 0:47:47INDISTINCT SHOUTING
0:48:10 > 0:48:12Stand up. Move all these out the way.
0:48:14 > 0:48:16Right, you are being detained for the purposes of
0:48:16 > 0:48:17a firearm search, all right?
0:48:17 > 0:48:20We have information that there is a firearm in that car.
0:48:25 > 0:48:28The driver and the two female passengers are detained
0:48:28 > 0:48:30so a search of the car can begin.
0:48:35 > 0:48:38Mate, there's a couple of bags in the footwell.
0:48:38 > 0:48:39- You got it?- Bingo.
0:48:40 > 0:48:43- Right, gun!- Gun?
0:48:44 > 0:48:47In the glove box, wrapped up in blue,
0:48:47 > 0:48:49we believe that's a firearm.
0:48:51 > 0:48:53As a suspected weapon has been found,
0:48:53 > 0:48:57a forensics expert is brought in to remove it safely.
0:49:13 > 0:49:14It's there, it's ready to use.
0:49:14 > 0:49:17You know, if somebody attacks him, is he going to use it,
0:49:17 > 0:49:19or is he going to drive it somewhere to use it?
0:49:19 > 0:49:22Is he going to drop his female passengers off and then go off
0:49:22 > 0:49:25into the night? Or is he going to go off, sell it,
0:49:25 > 0:49:28he's going to hand it over to somebody... Who knows? Who knows?
0:49:28 > 0:49:31All I know is that
0:49:31 > 0:49:34with the joint work between Trident and ourselves tonight
0:49:34 > 0:49:37that whatever was going to happen with that gun
0:49:37 > 0:49:40won't happen with that gun, because it's now in our possession.
0:49:49 > 0:49:51Six miles away in North London,
0:49:51 > 0:49:53Steve is looking for a group of suspicious teenagers
0:49:53 > 0:49:56on bicycles, wearing masks.
0:49:56 > 0:49:57INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER
0:49:57 > 0:50:00Control, the informant said they were definitely coming towards
0:50:00 > 0:50:02the direction of Essex Road way, didn't they?
0:50:02 > 0:50:05'Newington Green Road towards Essex Road.'
0:50:05 > 0:50:07Lovely, thank you.
0:50:07 > 0:50:10We've just had a call from a member of the public saying they've seen
0:50:10 > 0:50:14three blokes on mountain bikes from Newington Green Road
