0:00:15 > 0:00:24This programme contains strong language.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29This programme contains some scenes which some

0:00:30 > 0:00:37This Taser is capable of delivering 50,000 volts!

0:00:38 > 0:00:39The task of protecting them false to the country's

0:00:40 > 0:00:47Hello, Metropolitan Police, how can I help?

0:00:48 > 0:00:59In a single year, they are called to 90,000 robberies and burglaries.

0:01:00 > 0:01:10You've been identified as being responsible

0:01:11 > 0:01:23You unlawfully and maliciously caused grevious bodily harm.

0:01:24 > 0:01:25Can you think of a reason now why I should give

0:01:26 > 0:01:37It's a force seen by some as the enemy.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Black people growing up around here feel

0:01:42 > 0:01:47My driver has come under attack with a glass bottle.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50He's had his head split open, and another officer has been stabbed

0:01:51 > 0:01:56What are you doing using language like that?

0:01:57 > 0:02:03We lock up the bad people so that people like you can

0:02:04 > 0:02:34Although, I once saw a fox run across the road with a whole KFC

0:02:35 > 0:02:42Hackney is the only borough where foxes will look you in the eye

0:02:43 > 0:02:45and purposely not move because they're not scared of you.

0:02:46 > 0:02:52PCs Dave and Paris have been working together for five years.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56They patrol one of the ten most violent boroughs in London.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58OK, informant reporting a disturbance, who thinks two

0:02:59 > 0:03:05Both are Taser trained and assigned to I grade

0:03:06 > 0:03:08calls, where an immediate response is needed.

0:03:09 > 0:03:24It's the start of the bank holiday weekend, and a 22-year-old man has

0:03:25 > 0:03:37Can we take your top off and have a proper look, mate?

0:03:38 > 0:03:42Facial injuries are very emotive, the face.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45People can get totally transfixed with the fact they've got

0:03:46 > 0:03:48an injury to the face, and in fact, they've got

0:03:49 > 0:03:50a much more serious injury to their torso or abdomen.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55Look down into your own groin and make sure there's no

0:03:56 > 0:03:58Sometimes they won't recognise the fact they've got

0:03:59 > 0:04:01what is actually a very serious injury, which is why

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Stop, show me your belly, let me see your armpits.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07Because, you take a stab wound into the axilla

0:04:08 > 0:04:16He's stated that he fell over, that's how he did his face.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21It's not particularly deep, but it's clearly enough

0:04:22 > 0:04:23to make him be sick, and he's probably dropped

0:04:24 > 0:04:27The victim needed 27 stitches in his face.

0:04:28 > 0:04:37Suspect knife, possibly still outstanding.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42Now our primary aim is to track the suspect down and arrest him.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45I'm guessing he's going to be the usual gang-looking type.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50Obviously, pleased you're a weight Taser unit.

0:04:51 > 0:04:52Following information from a member of the public,

0:04:53 > 0:04:56they believe the suspect is less than two miles away.

0:04:57 > 0:05:12Fellow officer Naomi has reached him on his phone.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17If he is distressed and in a state of panic, I'm not letting

0:05:18 > 0:05:24He's going to be engaged by Taser officers.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27He can arrange to meet whoever he likes.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Try and get eyes on, and he will be a Taser challenge.

0:05:31 > 0:05:38He's obviously panicking, but the problem is, people make bad

0:05:39 > 0:05:41decisions when they are panicking, and our job is to try to minimise

0:05:42 > 0:05:45He's already done something stupid, and he's got to be dealt

0:05:46 > 0:05:50with for that, and we've got to secure him safely.

0:05:51 > 0:06:07The Sergeant has decided the Tasers shouldn't be used,

0:06:08 > 0:06:09so another unit will carry out the arrest.

0:06:10 > 0:06:23You do naturally get excited about these kind of calls.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Your adrenaline is pumping, and you are about to catch someone

0:06:27 > 0:06:28who is walking around the streets with a knife.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31It's one of the most satisfying things you can arrest someone for,

0:06:32 > 0:06:34because it's such a big issue in London again, the knife crime.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Over the last year, 13 young people have died as a result

0:06:38 > 0:06:46We were getting ready for a red dot challenge, we were.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50We are going to take the suspect back to his home address,

0:06:51 > 0:06:52try and find the knife, and it just ties it all

0:06:53 > 0:07:07Less than a mile away, there's been another attack.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12A 24-year-old man that's been stabbed.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15It took me ages to get these new white shirts,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19so I try not to get any blood on them.

0:07:20 > 0:07:36It's like gold dust, getting new uniform.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39We're looking for victim, and the suspects have gone up

0:07:40 > 0:07:44to the left and taken the next left onto Bucks Hill Crescent.

0:07:45 > 0:07:58But obviously, from the other cad, suspects have run off in that

0:07:59 > 0:07:59direction, towards Bucks Hill Crescent.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05He's got a stab wound to the upper right groin area.

0:08:06 > 0:08:07Paris stays with the victim while Dave and his Sergeant

0:08:08 > 0:08:20They like to debilitate their victims.

0:08:21 > 0:08:26There is embarrassment, there's a lot of complications.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29People end up having to use colostomy bags and stuff.

0:08:30 > 0:08:37Myself and 19 are going to be walking through Red Path.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40The suggestion that the suspects may have made off in this direction.

0:08:41 > 0:09:10There two males just on your left into the park.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13They didn't make off in any way, but they were paying a lot

0:09:14 > 0:09:19With no description of the suspects to go on, all David and his Sergeant

0:09:20 > 0:09:22can do is try and question anyone in the area.

0:09:23 > 0:10:06Despite the arrival of more units, the police lose the boys

0:10:07 > 0:10:22With the increased police presence, another man has been arrested

0:10:23 > 0:10:31I'm arresting you for having the lock blade on you.

0:10:32 > 0:10:40In the area, I heard little kids was stabbing each other.

0:10:41 > 0:10:46Units have been called in to search the area.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51They find a bag containing thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs.

0:10:52 > 0:10:58And, back in the park, Dave has uncovered several weapons.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01Regardless of what the motive is, they are just kids.

0:11:02 > 0:11:09That lad's got a horrific, life changing injury.

0:11:10 > 0:11:11I know they say it's not life changing, not life-threatening,

0:11:12 > 0:11:15but he's basically got a massive stab wound in the top of his penis.

0:11:16 > 0:11:17That's going to cause him, potentially, a lifetime of problems.

0:11:18 > 0:11:34All these kids could be doing something worthwhile.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38You know, they are all capable of doing something decent,

0:11:39 > 0:11:47They're just throwing it away doing dumb shit like this.

0:11:48 > 0:13:15When officers arrived at the address, a 45-year-old man

0:13:16 > 0:13:23He is arrested and brought to Kingston Police Station.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27So the charge is attempt to rape a woman 16 or over.

0:13:28 > 0:13:29Intentionally attempted to penetrate the vagina

0:13:30 > 0:13:33of a woman with your penis, when she did not consent,

0:13:34 > 0:13:41and you did not reasonably believe that she was consenting.

0:13:42 > 0:13:46Rape and attempted rape are difficult to investigate.

0:13:47 > 0:13:48You effectively have one person's word against another, so the fact

0:13:49 > 0:13:51that you have the suspect there, it's effectively the

0:13:52 > 0:13:59Detective Inspector Neil Jones is from the Met's Sapphire Unit,

0:14:00 > 0:14:01which investigates rape and serious sexual assault.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05First and foremost, thank you very much for all your

0:14:06 > 0:14:08We had an excellent result, which was well deserved.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12We can take some comfort in the fact that a dangerous sex offender

0:14:13 > 0:14:19But, as we know, that's the easy part, and the hard part

0:14:20 > 0:14:21is going to be the next bit, ensuring that we have

0:14:22 > 0:14:27At the moment, it appears they've never met previously,

0:14:28 > 0:14:29there was a two-minute walk to the home address, then,

0:14:30 > 0:14:34within a very short space of time, they are allegedly in bed having

0:14:35 > 0:14:37sexual intercourse, which I would suggest is quite unusual.

0:14:38 > 0:14:42It is very unclear what she means by "following".

0:14:43 > 0:14:47"He wasn't that far away" was the words she used.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50That's all you get, over and over again when you question her.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53She's a lady who has Down's syndrome, and as such,

0:14:54 > 0:15:00communication with her is proving to be quite difficult.

0:15:01 > 0:15:02There is a possibility that she invited him into the flat,

0:15:03 > 0:15:05but likewise, there's also a possibility that he followed her

0:15:06 > 0:15:07without her knowledge, and got into the flat,

0:15:08 > 0:15:10or forced her into the flat, or even under false pretences.

0:15:11 > 0:15:15To me, there's a bit of confusion as to what he's

0:15:16 > 0:15:22It is unclear whether there's been any penetration or not.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25I think the confusion comes from when people have

0:15:26 > 0:15:28asked her direct questions, "Have you had sex with him?",

0:15:29 > 0:15:33But when I've asked the same question, she's very adamant.

0:15:34 > 0:15:43Do we know what she understands by sex?

0:15:44 > 0:15:45Mum has provided us with a statement saying that she understands

0:15:46 > 0:15:48that it is something to do with a man and a woman,

0:15:49 > 0:15:50but doesn't have any clue as to the biometrics

0:15:51 > 0:15:54Which obviously casts confusion on when we ask

0:15:55 > 0:15:56if she's had sex with him, yes or no?

0:15:57 > 0:16:05The police arrived, and the male suspect was actually here,

0:16:06 > 0:16:11What we are trying to find is traces of him and his DNA

0:16:12 > 0:16:20and his forensic make up contained within this bed area.

0:16:21 > 0:16:23The officer in charge of the case is Detective David Fall.

0:16:24 > 0:16:25What we do know is that he was here upon arrest.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28What we don't know is what took place in the address,

0:16:29 > 0:16:30and what we are trying to establish is him committing

0:16:31 > 0:16:34We are looking in terms of semen, bodily fluids,

0:16:35 > 0:16:46I mean, that looks like it's a hand that way round.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50But there's not a lot of detail in it at all.

0:16:51 > 0:16:52David is joined by Detective Asha Sharma, who is visiting

0:16:53 > 0:16:55the victims' neighbours to gather more information.

0:16:56 > 0:17:06She came running into me and just hugged me and started crying.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10She was saying, "There's a man upstairs in my bed naked

0:17:11 > 0:17:15with a bottle of vodka, and he won't go, he won't go."

0:17:16 > 0:17:17And she just kept saying to me, "he touched me here,

0:17:18 > 0:17:27"I kept saying no", and I asked her if she knew who it was,

0:17:28 > 0:17:29and she says, I don't know who he is.

0:17:30 > 0:17:37OK, when you see Jolene, what do you think, when you see her?

0:17:38 > 0:17:50It indicates there might be semen, so we will take those swamps

0:17:51 > 0:18:00I've got something coming up right on the corner now.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03That's going quite deep purple, isn't it?

0:18:04 > 0:18:09We can't establish at this stage if that is semen of the suspect,

0:18:10 > 0:18:24however, we will know more in a few days' time.

0:18:25 > 0:18:30No reason why I shouldn't carry this weapon.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33In east London, Dave and Paris are beginning their shift.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37I've carried a Taser for three years.

0:18:38 > 0:18:40I've only actually had to activate the Taser twice,

0:18:41 > 0:18:43once for a person, once for a dog, and it is...

0:18:44 > 0:19:08Someone set off the alarm in the front office, so I had to run.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11I'm a big fan of running, as you can tell.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14It was a false alarm, so we can go back.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17Dave is 35, and one of the most experienced response

0:19:18 > 0:19:27The test is if you can drink the coffee on the way to and I grade.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30The test is mainly if you don't end up wearing coffee.

0:19:31 > 0:19:32It's the beginning of rush hour, and a suspect package has been

0:19:33 > 0:19:38reported three miles away in Old Street.

0:19:39 > 0:19:49There is a male who's put an object on the side of in the bin.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53There was a bin right in front of him, so it's very strange,

0:19:54 > 0:19:55and obviously given the Brussels attack recently, people

0:19:56 > 0:20:06So, Eastern European male, five foot seven, stubble,

0:20:07 > 0:20:12black hood, rucksack on his back, wearing dark clothing.

0:20:13 > 0:20:20Dave, that male on CCTV has gone into the block by Argos,

0:20:21 > 0:20:32Do you want to look the other side of Old Street

0:20:33 > 0:20:38He's placed an item by the side of a bin.

0:20:39 > 0:20:59He says, as it blows up in his hands!

0:21:00 > 0:21:02That's never going to cause anyone any harm, however,

0:21:03 > 0:21:03someone was obviously nervous about it.

0:21:04 > 0:21:05It's our job to make people feel more secure.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09It's the Queen's diesel, so we will run around and pick it up.

0:21:10 > 0:21:1525-year-old Paris joined the Met after leaving college,

0:21:16 > 0:21:18starting out in Hackney, less than ten miles

0:21:19 > 0:21:27This is my favourite song at the minute.

0:21:28 > 0:21:46We may agree on many things, Paris, but music may not be one of them.

0:21:47 > 0:21:52This is, you are away, somewhere hot, on a beach,

0:21:53 > 0:22:04# I need to know where do you wanna go...

0:22:05 > 0:22:15It's 9am, and they've been alerted to an altercation nearby.

0:22:16 > 0:22:57You're not going to bite my hand off, mate, are you?

0:22:58 > 0:23:32Mate, everything you say and do is on camera.

0:23:33 > 0:23:33Patrol, this prisoner is smashing his head

0:23:34 > 0:23:50And was ordered not to return to that address again.

0:23:51 > 0:23:53I'm just going to try and see here, there is quite a large

0:23:54 > 0:23:55queue of people waiting to board that bus.

0:23:56 > 0:23:58What I'm trying to do is identify the point where the victim

0:23:59 > 0:24:02and the suspect first encounter each other.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05David Fall, the detective in charge of the attempted rape case, has got

0:24:06 > 0:24:09hold of CCTV showing part of the victims home.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12They did not board together, the victim in this case has actually

0:24:13 > 0:24:15just boarded the bus here in the screen that we conceive.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18And if we follow on the footage are suspect just enters

0:24:19 > 0:24:24So at this stage it wouldn't appear that they've ever

0:24:25 > 0:24:28And as we can see in the bottom right-hand picture there,

0:24:29 > 0:24:31the victim is in fact sat by the window and the suspect

0:24:32 > 0:24:36And I'm fairly confident that is the first time

0:24:37 > 0:24:41It's very difficult to tell if he is engaged in any conversation

0:24:42 > 0:24:49The suspect is now following the victim off the bus.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52She comes out the bus and turns left, which would be

0:24:53 > 0:24:57But he walks straight towards the fencing area

0:24:58 > 0:25:03It would appear that he didn't get off the bus knowing which direction

0:25:04 > 0:25:11From what we know, the account so far that we have managed

0:25:12 > 0:25:15to obtain from the victim is very consistent.

0:25:16 > 0:25:22What we need to really know is what happened in her flat,

0:25:23 > 0:25:30At this stage there is a lot of questions that

0:25:31 > 0:25:33The detectives need to get a more detailed description

0:25:34 > 0:25:35of the alleged offence from the victim.

0:25:36 > 0:25:44She's been living independently for six years.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47But has been staying with her mum since the attack.

0:25:48 > 0:25:50Remember when I said that we were going to get your story

0:25:51 > 0:25:52about why you phoned the police on Friday?

0:25:53 > 0:25:56What we are going to do, we're going to do that tomorrow.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00And the reason we are here today is really to see if you've got any

0:26:01 > 0:26:05We have got Gaynor here, she's going to talk to you.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08Now, I've come to meet you, I'm not a police officer.

0:26:09 > 0:26:13What I am is called an intermediary because sometimes when the police

0:26:14 > 0:26:16talk to people they've got their own way of talking

0:26:17 > 0:26:20and some people might not always understand what they are saying,

0:26:21 > 0:26:24what they are asking them, so we are going to chat and look

0:26:25 > 0:26:28at some things so I can get an idea of the sort of words you find easy

0:26:29 > 0:26:32to understand and the sorts of things that you might find a bit

0:26:33 > 0:26:34difficult, does that sound like a good idea?

0:26:35 > 0:26:41Right, now, I'm going to put some things out on the table,

0:26:42 > 0:26:50Can you pick up for me the blue penny and the orange pencil?

0:26:51 > 0:27:04So, what I'm going to do now Jo is to see if you can tell me

0:27:05 > 0:27:06the names of different parts of the body, so first

0:27:07 > 0:27:09of all I am going to show it on myself all right?

0:27:10 > 0:27:12So can you tell me, let's have some really easy ones.

0:27:13 > 0:27:18Let's have a look at this picture of the ladies here,

0:27:19 > 0:27:23what would you call those bits there on a lady?

0:27:24 > 0:27:28On a man, what would you call that bit?

0:27:29 > 0:27:32What does it do, what does the penis do?

0:27:33 > 0:27:36OK, when you have sex, does it do anything else?

0:27:37 > 0:27:45Does it do anything else, a man's penis that you can think of?

0:27:46 > 0:27:54It's going to be particularly difficult for her to give

0:27:55 > 0:27:55explanations of things, how did such and such

0:27:56 > 0:28:00What was the reason that you did such and such.

0:28:01 > 0:28:02She'll have enough difficulty just sort of chronological

0:28:03 > 0:28:11So we may have to have sort of timelines where we can

0:28:29 > 0:28:37In east London, the Met's dedicated robbery unit, the Flying Squad,

0:28:38 > 0:28:41are one of the only teams in the forced to carry firearms.

0:28:42 > 0:28:44Personally I've always liked investigating robbery.

0:28:45 > 0:28:47Obviously there is an excitement element to it.

0:28:48 > 0:28:53Dealing with quite often top end criminality.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56And we have on the Flying Squad an arms capability as well

0:28:57 > 0:29:00Detective Inspector Nick Blackburn is investigating three armed

0:29:01 > 0:29:04shop raids in south-east London.

0:29:05 > 0:29:14The offences are very serious, at the top end of the offending

0:29:15 > 0:29:22I cannot overstate the level of threat that was used here and it

0:29:23 > 0:29:26has a hugely traumatic affect on the victims within the stores.

0:29:27 > 0:29:32Some will never recover from what happened.

0:29:33 > 0:29:38Two suspects have been identified from DNA evidence found

0:29:39 > 0:29:43Paul Brown is linked through a dropped ?5 note,

0:29:44 > 0:29:46it was dropped by Brown as he left the store having

0:29:47 > 0:29:53This is a close-up of the dropped H bag and that was where we found

0:29:54 > 0:29:56the partial DNA match for the suspect with

0:29:57 > 0:30:17Nick and nine officers are heading up the day

0:30:18 > 0:30:25Scott Smith is a far right supporter.

0:30:26 > 0:30:29He's got previous offences for possession

0:30:30 > 0:30:35That taken together means that we're not to enter his house.

0:30:36 > 0:30:36That would be on his terms.

0:30:37 > 0:30:40We are going to wait for him to come out of his house.

0:30:41 > 0:30:52The intention for us today is to keep Scott Smith under control.

0:30:53 > 0:30:59To avoid a possible armed stand-off the team have to sit tight

0:31:00 > 0:31:02until Scott Smith comes out of his home.

0:31:03 > 0:31:04I think with this particular individual, when you actually look

0:31:05 > 0:31:06at his record, he's not a criminal mastermind.

0:31:07 > 0:31:08From evaluating the offences themselves and the mistakes that

0:31:09 > 0:31:12have been made by him and his associate.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16They've committed an offence which will see them receive

0:31:17 > 0:31:18considerable prison sentences, all for ?1200.

0:31:19 > 0:31:28Insufficient I would say, for the risk that is presented.

0:31:29 > 0:31:30After four hours on stand-by, Scott finally leaves his address

0:31:31 > 0:31:53Yes, yes, you've got three arrest cars formed up in Beacon road.

0:31:54 > 0:32:24Got anything on you you shouldn't have at all?

0:32:25 > 0:32:37You fucking hit me in the back, mate.

0:32:38 > 0:32:47Detectives search Scott's address looking for items that

0:32:48 > 0:32:56What it is guv, it looks like we've got some of the items of clothing

0:32:57 > 0:33:03The distinctive black trainers with white soles.

0:33:04 > 0:33:11I did not take you for a Justin Bieber man.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15That's it, your cred has gone now with us.

0:33:16 > 0:33:32Kind of brought the mood down this hasn't it?

0:33:33 > 0:33:54The second suspect, Paul Brown, has also been arrested,

0:33:55 > 0:33:57and both are being taken to Bromley police station to be questioned.

0:33:58 > 0:33:59There you go, man in the blue coat, gunmen

0:34:00 > 0:34:04I believe that's you, because it looks like you.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07The man behind him, do you know who that is?

0:34:08 > 0:34:10Was that you that pushed the plastic bag under the counter?

0:34:11 > 0:34:25A lot of the clothing was found, at both Brown's and Smith's address.

0:34:26 > 0:34:28Paul, watching that, that's a very good likeness for you isn't it?

0:34:29 > 0:34:36And let's not forget as well the likeness with the images that

0:34:37 > 0:34:39we've seen on the CCTV so it's a very strong case.

0:34:40 > 0:34:41I'm very pleased it's a success for the victims,

0:34:42 > 0:35:00they are looking at quite a few years in custody.

0:35:01 > 0:35:06You have been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape.

0:35:07 > 0:35:09Jolene says that you touched her breast then pulled down her knickers

0:35:10 > 0:35:22Is that why you forced your way into her house and tried

0:35:23 > 0:35:30Do you get drunk and follow people home off buses?

0:35:31 > 0:35:33The suspect in the attempted rape investigation has refused to give

0:35:34 > 0:35:42David's only opportunity to prove what happened is to get

0:35:43 > 0:35:54She's come in with her support worker Nicola.

0:35:55 > 0:35:59Has she been, how was she after we went?

0:36:00 > 0:36:02Handling it better than what I thought.

0:36:03 > 0:36:05Come and take a seat, this way my darling.

0:36:06 > 0:36:10Right, Jo, on Friday, you called the police,

0:36:11 > 0:36:20I was in the bedroom and he's pulled my jeans down to my ankles.

0:36:21 > 0:36:22Jo, who pulled your jeans down to your ankles?

0:36:23 > 0:36:35Did you ask him to come to your flat?

0:36:36 > 0:36:46After he took your clothes off, tell me, what did he do?

0:36:47 > 0:37:20You were scared of the man and you told him you don't want to do it.

0:37:21 > 0:37:39The thing that worries me now, I say worries me, it's quite

0:37:40 > 0:37:41consistent at the start, right at the end, prior

0:37:42 > 0:37:44to the break, he's raped me, or he's tried to rape me.

0:37:45 > 0:37:46But we need to ask her what she understands about rape.

0:37:47 > 0:37:52Which is our last question, do you know what rape is?

0:37:53 > 0:37:56He's been charged with attempted rape and we need to be able to prove

0:37:57 > 0:37:58beyond doubt that that offence has taken place.

0:37:59 > 0:38:01Do you know, when you said he tried to rape me...

0:38:02 > 0:38:22Tell us again, what does it mean, when someone rapes

0:38:23 > 0:38:35They have now been interviewing Jolene for nearly 90 minutes.

0:38:36 > 0:38:48Take him back to prison, the police came round and arrest him.

0:38:49 > 0:38:55OK, we are getting very confused here Jo.

0:38:56 > 0:38:58I think we are going around in circles now so I was just saying

0:38:59 > 0:39:01whether or not there is any merit in maybe doing a further

0:39:02 > 0:39:34I don't want him to go to my flat again.

0:39:35 > 0:39:39We can sort that out, he's in prison at the moment.

0:39:40 > 0:39:46Yeah, that is what my job is, to make sure that we lock up the bad

0:39:47 > 0:39:53Neither do we, that's why we do the job that we do.

0:39:54 > 0:39:56So that people like you, the good people can sleep safe

0:39:57 > 0:40:18It's 11:30pm on Saturday night and units are called to Shoreditch.

0:40:19 > 0:40:47Sorry mate, you got something to say?

0:40:48 > 0:40:52Fella, I'd take yourself home before you end up getting

0:40:53 > 0:40:59But with enough officers already at the scene,

0:41:00 > 0:41:10Dave and Paris can go back on patrol.

0:41:11 > 0:41:13That's why I wasn't going to stop, because I thought you were

0:41:14 > 0:41:16Literally, it's not good to take much tonight.

0:41:17 > 0:41:29This is going to be a fucking horrendous night isn't it?

0:41:30 > 0:41:38Is there a woman flat out on the floor there?

0:41:39 > 0:42:01You can't just lie here, people are going to think

0:42:02 > 0:42:09You're lucky you ain't been robbed, this is the middle of Hackney.

0:42:10 > 0:42:12You're taller than I thought you were going to be.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16Madam, do you want to put the bag on your shoulder?

0:42:17 > 0:42:25No, no, you are not under arrest, we are just taking

0:42:26 > 0:42:29It's just I'm not putting you in my car, it's safer

0:42:30 > 0:42:32in the back of this because it's wipe clean, you know what I mean?

0:42:33 > 0:42:36She's in a lot more danger if we leave her there.

0:42:37 > 0:42:39It's a couple of minutes round the corner.

0:42:40 > 0:42:42It's not something we like doing but it will result in her not

0:42:43 > 0:42:46becoming a victim of crime later on tonight.

0:42:47 > 0:42:52Back on patrol, a car has caught Paris's attention.

0:42:53 > 0:42:55He's literally running around all over that car.

0:42:56 > 0:43:03Sounding angry and rude and aggressive?

0:43:04 > 0:43:04I want you to practice your inside voice.

0:43:05 > 0:43:10I want you to like kill them with kindness.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15Good evening sir, I hope you're having a pleasant day, the Lord....

0:43:16 > 0:43:23Let's stick to things like hello, I would like to firstly tell

0:43:24 > 0:43:26you what a lovely shade of blue your car is.

0:43:27 > 0:43:28But secondly, put a goddamn seatbelt on.

0:43:29 > 0:43:30You're going to be calm, you're going be cool.

0:43:31 > 0:43:32Excuse me sir would you like to pull your vehicle over?

0:43:33 > 0:43:38I'm getting bored, we are going to have pull this vehicle over.

0:43:39 > 0:43:41You know what, he's going to stay off side, if he stays off side

0:43:42 > 0:43:51Just a quick note, your passenger in the back should be

0:43:52 > 0:43:58Not only is it a ?100 fine for you sir, and you young lady,

0:43:59 > 0:44:02but also in the event of a collision he will travel forward at about 60

0:44:03 > 0:44:05mph and crush your head into the dashboard so I would

0:44:06 > 0:44:06thoroughly recommend everyone wears their seat belts.

0:44:07 > 0:44:20Aw dammit, now I'm going to have to stop at these lights.

0:44:21 > 0:44:25It's nearly 4am and a mile and a half away Hackney council CCTV

0:44:26 > 0:44:29team has spotted a fight outside a nightclub.

0:44:30 > 0:44:43At the minute you are detained, you're under arrest

0:44:44 > 0:44:49You don't have to say anything but it may harm your defence

0:44:50 > 0:44:51if you do not mention when questioned something

0:44:52 > 0:45:19No, because there might be evidence in there

0:45:20 > 0:45:24Relating to the GBH, someone's been hit with a

0:45:25 > 0:45:28I didn't hit anyone with a fucking bike lock.

0:45:29 > 0:45:30You are under arrest on suspicion, calm

0:45:31 > 0:45:38OK, well you're going to be in the van and we

0:45:39 > 0:45:41are going to check the CCTV, at the minute you're on suspicion.

0:45:42 > 0:45:43Your further arrested for possession of

0:45:44 > 0:45:46class B, you do not have to say anything but it may harm your

0:45:47 > 0:45:48defence if you do not mention when questioned something

0:45:49 > 0:46:11David has asked Jolene back as he needs to make sure he has

0:46:12 > 0:46:12the most comprehensive account to present in

0:46:13 > 0:46:18We need to prove beyond any reasonable doubt

0:46:19 > 0:46:22That is why our interviewing victims and

0:46:23 > 0:46:31We need to give ourselves and most importantly

0:46:32 > 0:46:34the victim the best possible chance of justice in court.

0:46:35 > 0:46:38They don't have the forensic results back.

0:46:39 > 0:46:40And there's still some uncertainty whether they should prosecute for

0:46:41 > 0:46:45attempted rape or the more serious offence of rape.

0:46:46 > 0:46:48Can you tell me, who walked in to your bedroom first?

0:46:49 > 0:47:12From looking at that, was he laying on top of you?

0:47:13 > 0:47:17Talking in such graphic terms of parts of the body and

0:47:18 > 0:47:20certain actions that may have happened in a sexual offence

0:47:21 > 0:47:26investigation, it's such a difficult process for anybody to go through.

0:47:27 > 0:47:37We can't ever make it any better but we can try to

0:47:38 > 0:47:38make it easier and it's about having empathy.

0:47:39 > 0:47:42It's making them feel that we are there, that we care

0:47:43 > 0:47:45and that we want to do the best thing for them.

0:47:46 > 0:47:49Again, I wasn't there, OK, so it's very important that I can

0:47:50 > 0:48:10Can you tell me what you think I mean?

0:48:11 > 0:48:13He came forward to me and put his penis right down my ankle,

0:48:14 > 0:48:19Maybe we could just use, they've asked you, did his penis

0:48:20 > 0:48:38We need to have a talk about this don't we?

0:48:39 > 0:48:42I just don't think her yes, no answers are 100% reliable.

0:48:43 > 0:48:45That's what she does do, she will try to please people.

0:48:46 > 0:48:48But in this circumstance you've asked her several times

0:48:49 > 0:48:50and she's come back with the same answer.

0:48:51 > 0:48:53I think bearing in mind we are going to be presenting this in

0:48:54 > 0:48:56court, as well, when we're in that room, it's very different from when

0:48:57 > 0:48:59Ultimately it's going to really be for the jury

0:49:00 > 0:49:01to sit there and make their minds up.

0:49:02 > 0:49:05I think today's been really worthwhile.

0:49:06 > 0:49:08The account that Jolene has given us is a very good one.

0:49:09 > 0:49:21And this is the reason why some people

0:49:22 > 0:49:27with downs syndrome or other disabilities

0:49:28 > 0:49:30and vulnerabilities are preyed upon because it's very,

0:49:31 > 0:49:32very difficult for the police to get a complete and accurate

0:49:33 > 0:49:48She told us as much detail as she could.

0:49:49 > 0:49:51After three weeks of living away, Jolene and her mum have come

0:49:52 > 0:49:53to get her flat ready before she moves back in.

0:49:54 > 0:49:59I'm really worried, I mean she's been

0:50:00 > 0:50:02staying with me, she is still staying with me, but she wants to

0:50:03 > 0:50:09She likes her independence and everything.

0:50:10 > 0:50:10She's actually handled it really well.

0:50:11 > 0:50:19She has moments where she goes very quiet and you can see her

0:50:20 > 0:50:22thinking or say like something will come on the telly and you can sense

0:50:23 > 0:50:24and she will just look down so I turn it over

0:50:25 > 0:50:31Keeps asking me to buy her a new bed, she wants the bed gone.

0:50:32 > 0:50:34Would you be happy coming back up here?

0:50:35 > 0:51:00Just try and get her life back together really, normal, that's all

0:51:01 > 0:51:23Two days after Jolene's interview, David gets the last piece of

0:51:24 > 0:51:29I've received the forensic examination report.

0:51:30 > 0:51:33There's no semen detected in any area in

0:51:34 > 0:51:38Jolene's flat, and there's also no semen present from Jolene's swabs.

0:51:39 > 0:51:41It would appear this was an attempted rape as opposed to

0:51:42 > 0:51:46Further to that, with the injuries sustained to Jolene,

0:51:47 > 0:51:50in her account, she was very clear that he pinned her down on the bed,

0:51:51 > 0:51:54These are all injuries that she did have, and it

0:51:55 > 0:51:59Because, ultimately, it's her word against Harjit Singh's.

0:52:00 > 0:52:02David will have to wait until the trial to see

0:52:03 > 0:52:42You know the only four basic moves to any boy band song, don't you?

0:52:43 > 0:53:11It's just after midnight, and Dave and Paris have been on the lookout

0:53:12 > 0:53:14for a white BMW that made off from officers earlier.

0:53:15 > 0:53:27There's a massive smell of cannabis from inside,

0:53:28 > 0:53:47The Met's firearms unit are calling for back-up as they

0:53:48 > 0:54:02The helicopter unit are also on route.

0:54:03 > 0:54:04The driver and passengers have abandoned the car,

0:54:05 > 0:54:30and are now being pursued by officers.

0:54:31 > 0:54:32Two of the suspects are picked up on the helicopter's

0:54:33 > 0:54:37RADIO: Stand by, because we've got suspect climbing over a wall.

0:54:38 > 0:54:51Stand by, I'll try and give you the name of the block.

0:54:52 > 0:54:54RADIO: They were climbing over some walls, and now they are on foot,

0:54:55 > 0:55:05RADIO: It looks like it's Evelyn Court.

0:55:06 > 0:55:27RADIO: One's gone left into the estate.

0:55:28 > 0:55:43This Taser is capable of delivering 50,000 volts.

0:55:44 > 0:55:47If you make any sudden movements, it may be used against you.

0:55:48 > 0:56:08The suspect is arrested without Paris firing her Taser.

0:56:09 > 0:56:15He's turned back and realised he is caught between me

0:56:16 > 0:56:18and the Trojan car, and given himself up.

0:56:19 > 0:56:25At the minute you are detained for the purpose

0:56:26 > 0:56:28You've been seen to decamp from a vehicle.

0:56:29 > 0:56:30It's believed you may have some weapons on you.

0:56:31 > 0:56:34The whole time he's running, he kept going for something

0:56:35 > 0:56:43Well, to me, that can indicate you've got a weapon on you, OK?

0:56:44 > 0:56:46That's why you were issued with a red dot from a Taser,

0:56:47 > 0:56:50No weapon was found on either suspect, and the two

0:56:51 > 0:56:55But the driver was found guilty of dangerous driving

0:56:56 > 0:57:04If someone had been sitting in that car or crossing in front of it,

0:57:05 > 0:57:07And that's the reality of the way these kids are driving.

0:57:08 > 0:57:10So we need to deal with it as seriously as we do.

0:57:11 > 0:57:12These lads obviously had something they wanted to hide.

0:57:13 > 0:57:15The chap that was chasing them said he could see something long down

0:57:16 > 0:57:18I'd say they probably were carrying weapons

0:57:19 > 0:57:22We've got a very big gang problem at the moment,

0:57:23 > 0:57:39and this is likely to be linked to that.

0:57:40 > 0:57:51I once stopped the car, jumped out, and started running towards

0:57:52 > 0:59:05Find out more about policing and how crimes are solved at:

0:59:16 > 0:59:23He had been decapitated. There is every chance he might nick a lot of

0:59:24 > 0:59:51people now. And I did this, so I have to be

0:59:52 > 0:59:54the one to finish it.
