0:00:11 > 0:00:12He's on the roof, he's on the roof.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15He's on the roof, on the roof!

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Yeah, we can see him, he's on the roof.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Yeah, we've got him now.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22Walk that way now!

0:00:22 > 0:00:25- Walk...- Get off me! - Right, walk this way.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27- Your- BLEEP- camera!

0:00:29 > 0:00:30Every day in the UK,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34the police are on the hunt for known and suspected criminals.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Get back from the door!

0:00:36 > 0:00:39They're armed with warrants and big red keys.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43The Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire forces

0:00:43 > 0:00:46have granted exclusive access to their raids.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47Police!

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Their officers are wearing special equipment

0:00:50 > 0:00:52to give you a cop's eye view,

0:00:52 > 0:00:56and bring you closer to the action than ever before.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Britain's streets are a battleground.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03- Stay back!- Get out the way. - Stay back.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07On one side are the men and women fighting to keep us safe,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09and on the other are The Wanted.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20West Yorkshire, home to 2.2 million people,

0:01:20 > 0:01:23a minority of hardened criminals

0:01:23 > 0:01:27and a dedicated police team known as Quartz.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Quartz was set up five years ago now.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34We do a lot of work around drugs and drug supply

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and dealing with people who

0:01:37 > 0:01:39enforce drugs markets,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42through the use, the criminal use, of firearms.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46We need to be going that way. That way.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Today, officer Michael Herbert and his colleagues

0:01:51 > 0:01:54are on their way to a raid in Leeds.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Yeah, we've got some live-time intelligence

0:01:56 > 0:01:58about a guy who's operating in Harehills now,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00a sort of well-known area for drug dealing,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and someone's down on the ground at the moment,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05has observed him entering into transactions

0:02:05 > 0:02:09with suspected drug users, which we believe is drug supply.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11It looks like the drugs are stored in the house.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15This lad's coming in and out and supplying users individually

0:02:15 > 0:02:17at different locations in and around his house.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25The team have already obtained a warrant to search the property.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29It's the home of 21-year-old Anthony Armour,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32wanted in connection with drugs offences.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Think we'll just grab him as soon as we can.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47A surveillance officer keeps the Quartz team up-to-date

0:02:47 > 0:02:49with Anthony Armour's movements.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Waiting for the order to strike,

0:02:53 > 0:02:56they stay out of sight around the corner

0:02:56 > 0:02:59and work out the best way to pounce.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02We'll go into the gable end, he comes out,

0:03:02 > 0:03:06Lofty'll give us the strike, we'll run round, get a grip of him,

0:03:06 > 0:03:07they'll move in, do the address.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14We need to get on our toes straightaway.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18Cos if we walk round the corner and he gets on that bike,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20we ain't going to catch him.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Well, yeah, but if we push him the other way at least...

0:03:22 > 0:03:27After 16 minutes of waiting, they're told to prepare to move in.

0:03:38 > 0:03:43He was seen by an officer coming out of the address,

0:03:43 > 0:03:48and exchanging with people, so that's a good indication for us

0:03:48 > 0:03:50that the drug-dealing network is live,

0:03:50 > 0:03:51and by that I mean it's happening now.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03But they're too late to catch him in the act of dealing on the street.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09The team will now have to wait for another opportunity to strike

0:04:09 > 0:04:10and get their wanted man.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14THEY LAUGH

0:04:14 > 0:04:17It's fluid, you know, these people that operate like this

0:04:17 > 0:04:20can change as much and as often and as many times as they want.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24And quite often they do, because then that keeps us guessing.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27If they were, you know, they're not creatures of habit,

0:04:27 > 0:04:30they change it all the time so we have to be fluid like that

0:04:30 > 0:04:33and we have to adopt and change our plans to cater for that.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38We're getting watched now which is not a good thing.

0:04:52 > 0:04:59Greater Manchester, home to the UK's third largest police force.

0:04:59 > 0:05:05Like all big city regions, it suffers from serious crime.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10And when offences occur that pose a threat to life,

0:05:10 > 0:05:13the suspects go on a critical Most Wanted list.

0:05:14 > 0:05:20Right, Gareth, we've been allocated the man hunt for Neville Powell,

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Operation Alum, as it's called.

0:05:22 > 0:05:23I wonder if you could just give me

0:05:23 > 0:05:26an update in relation to what he's wanted for

0:05:26 > 0:05:30and then just an overview, a summary of him and what he's about.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33The Force Critical Wanted Unit was set up to deal

0:05:33 > 0:05:37with Greater Manchester's greatest threats and risk.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39Those people who've either escaped from prison

0:05:39 > 0:05:42or they're wanted for really serious offences,

0:05:42 > 0:05:45So in essence, they're set up to make sure

0:05:45 > 0:05:47that the community of Manchester is safe,

0:05:47 > 0:05:51and they're a really unique team with specialist skills

0:05:51 > 0:05:55at tracking down people who really don't want to be found.

0:05:55 > 0:06:01DI Rob Cousen's latest task is to find a suspect wanted for assault.

0:06:05 > 0:06:0846-year-old Neville Powell is from Jamaica.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10He's known to be extremely violent.

0:06:12 > 0:06:14The victim of the assault is a female.

0:06:14 > 0:06:19He's tried on a number of occasions to initiate sexual contact with her.

0:06:19 > 0:06:24And on all occasions, she's sort of declined and made it clear to him

0:06:24 > 0:06:26that that's not what she wants.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29He's taken exception to that,

0:06:29 > 0:06:32and at some stage has started to repeatedly punch her

0:06:32 > 0:06:34to the floor.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37Whilst on the floor, he's then repeatedly kicked her.

0:06:37 > 0:06:42Um, he's broken off from...that assault and gone into the kitchen

0:06:42 > 0:06:45within the flat and boiled the kettle.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49Um...come back into the room, having boiled the kettle,

0:06:49 > 0:06:52and thrown boiling water over her.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55The job of tracking Powell down

0:06:55 > 0:06:59falls to Detective Sergeant Martin Ashurst.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01We'll do everything we can, really, um -

0:07:01 > 0:07:04the terminology is, like, "throwing the kitchen sink at something."

0:07:04 > 0:07:05If somebody is wanted

0:07:05 > 0:07:10and we know that they present a significant threat to the victim,

0:07:10 > 0:07:12we'll do everything we can

0:07:12 > 0:07:15to make sure that nobody suffers any more harm.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18What else do we know about Powell at the minute?

0:07:18 > 0:07:22Well, in relation to him, he's got, obviously, this assault,

0:07:22 > 0:07:26against a woman, and when you look at his previous crimes,

0:07:26 > 0:07:28he does clearly choose to target women.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31There are a number of assaults featuring women,

0:07:31 > 0:07:32some of whom he doesn't know,

0:07:32 > 0:07:35some of whom he's been in relationships with.

0:07:35 > 0:07:39- Right.- He is currently wanted by the A Division in relation

0:07:39 > 0:07:41- to an assault in June.- Yeah.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44He has said he's going to come back and finish the victim off.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Intelligence was saying that he wanted to come back and kill her,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50so obviously, the risk assessment management of her, we'll deal with,

0:07:50 > 0:07:53but in terms of the need to get him, it is very live.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55He's a medium to high-risk, without a shadow of a doubt.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59There's a Taser authority, which we will need to revisit...

0:07:59 > 0:08:02We have three categories in which we rate our subjects

0:08:02 > 0:08:04and that revolves around the risk that they pose.

0:08:04 > 0:08:11We have a platinum category, which is really significant threat,

0:08:11 > 0:08:15immediate threat to life, where it may be a kidnap situation.

0:08:15 > 0:08:16'We have a gold category,

0:08:16 > 0:08:20'which is a significant degree of risk around them being at large,

0:08:20 > 0:08:22'and then we have silver.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24'Neville Powell was a gold risk factor.'

0:08:24 > 0:08:27He had committed quite a serious offence

0:08:27 > 0:08:29against quite a vulnerable female

0:08:29 > 0:08:32and there was a massive risk whilst he was at large.

0:08:35 > 0:08:39The team has crucial information of Powell's whereabouts.

0:08:42 > 0:08:44As he presents a threat to the life of others,

0:08:44 > 0:08:47they need to act on it - immediately.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03In the Harehills area of Leeds,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06suspected criminal Anthony Armour

0:09:06 > 0:09:09has been under surveillance for the last two hours.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12He's been seen selling drugs,

0:09:12 > 0:09:16and the specialist Quartz team are waiting to catch him in the act.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22There's already been one false alarm, but now...

0:09:42 > 0:09:45A surveillance officer gives the order to go in.

0:09:46 > 0:09:47But as the team approach,

0:09:47 > 0:09:51the suspect spots them and locks himself back in the house.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54CHILDREN SCREAMING

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Just compose yourself first, make sure you get it right.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Get someone to pull it, turn it.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07Police!

0:10:07 > 0:10:09What you doing?!

0:10:11 > 0:10:12Police officers!

0:10:18 > 0:10:21He's on the roof, he's on the roof, he's on the roof, he's on the roof.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23Where you going?

0:10:23 > 0:10:26- ON RADIO:- 'Can you hear me?

0:10:27 > 0:10:30'I need you to speak to me.'

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Yeah, we can see him, he's on the roof.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35Yeah, we've got him now.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39Who do you think?

0:10:39 > 0:10:41You going to come off the roof?

0:10:41 > 0:10:43When he went up there, he had a plastic bag on him.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46People do fortify their houses,

0:10:46 > 0:10:49especially if they know they've got a load of drugs in there.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51We actually got into the house quite quickly,

0:10:51 > 0:10:54but by this time, he'd run all the way up to the top floor.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56It was quite surreal, really, cos we didn't see him,

0:10:56 > 0:11:00or I didn't see him get on the roof, so we ran through to the top floor

0:11:00 > 0:11:02and it was like, "He's not here!"

0:11:02 > 0:11:06And then thankfully an officer who was outside had seen him get out

0:11:06 > 0:11:10of the dormer window and onto the roof of the terraced houses.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33End of here, do a right onto...

0:11:33 > 0:11:37Stretford, so we're there. We're on Bonsall Street now.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40In Manchester, Detective Sergeant Martin Ashurst is leading

0:11:40 > 0:11:43a manhunt.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46The team's target...

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Wanted for a particularly vicious attack on a woman.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52Shall we get our heads together now and formulate a plan

0:11:52 > 0:11:55for attacking the address?

0:11:55 > 0:11:58He's alleged to have violently assaulted a female

0:11:58 > 0:12:01over the weekend, by pouring boiling water from a kettle on her

0:12:01 > 0:12:03a couple of times.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05And then he's attacked her with a bar

0:12:05 > 0:12:08and following that, he had made reference to finishing her off

0:12:08 > 0:12:10while he had a kitchen knife in his hand.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14From that, he's... We believe he's really quite volatile,

0:12:14 > 0:12:18owing to his lifestyle - high on drugs.

0:12:18 > 0:12:22So the urgency to get in is mainly around the risk

0:12:22 > 0:12:25that he presents to anybody that he comes across.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29- RADIO:- We're not going to delay you, but you never know...

0:12:31 > 0:12:35Yes, yes, you can keep us updated, we're, erm...

0:12:35 > 0:12:38shown as 2.4 miles away...

0:12:38 > 0:12:42The team are waiting for confirmation that Powell is at the address

0:12:42 > 0:12:44they're heading for...

0:12:44 > 0:12:48Back at base, intelligence officers use phone-tracking technology

0:12:48 > 0:12:52to gather the information they need.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55We look at little pieces of the jigsaw that might give us some

0:12:55 > 0:12:58clues as to where this person might be.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00'We could look at people who he'd rang...

0:13:00 > 0:13:04'They obviously had mutual friends who we could start looking at.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06'And there was a number of different avenues

0:13:06 > 0:13:09'that sprung to mind immediately to say where

0:13:09 > 0:13:12Neville Powell was and those are the lines that we followed.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Go ahead, Martin.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17'Same location as of two minutes ago.'

0:13:17 > 0:13:21Yes, yes, on that basis are you happy for us to go straight to?

0:13:21 > 0:13:24'Yes, yes. Obviously, if he's not there we can sort of

0:13:24 > 0:13:26'mask it somehow without giving the game away.'

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Yes, yes, won't give anything away.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31Finally, Martin's team receive

0:13:31 > 0:13:34the confirmation they've been waiting for.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37It's time to go in.

0:13:45 > 0:13:46Move, move, move...

0:14:00 > 0:14:05Officers surround the house, to seal off all possible escape routes.

0:14:05 > 0:14:06It's locked from the inside.

0:14:13 > 0:14:15Police, open the door.

0:14:15 > 0:14:16Police, open the door.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19Police, open the door or we'll force entry!

0:14:19 > 0:14:21Just be careful, now.

0:14:21 > 0:14:22WOMAN SHOUTS

0:14:24 > 0:14:27- There's definitely... - There's a key in the lock.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29There, top.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32TV on.

0:14:34 > 0:14:38Police, open the door. Female contact.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40Hi... OK.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Can you just go and sit in... Who's in here at the minute?

0:14:43 > 0:14:45- Me and my kids. - Is there anybody else upstairs?

0:14:45 > 0:14:46I've just got my kids.

0:14:50 > 0:14:54When we turned up at that address, there was absolutely no doubt

0:14:54 > 0:14:57in my mind that Neville Powell was inside that address.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00And straightaway you start to go through that

0:15:00 > 0:15:01risk-assessment process,

0:15:01 > 0:15:03"What am I going to be faced with when I get inside here?

0:15:03 > 0:15:06"How am I going to deal with it? Where's he going to be?"

0:15:06 > 0:15:09And the priority is - just get him, get him detained,

0:15:09 > 0:15:10make sure we're all safe.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14- Is there anybody else in this address?- No.

0:15:14 > 0:15:19Despite the woman's denials, the officers' instincts are correct.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22Powell has tried to conceal himself under a bed...

0:15:23 > 0:15:25..unsuccessfully.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27Come out, fella.

0:15:27 > 0:15:29Stay exactly where you are, mate.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32Don't even think about moving, do you understand?

0:15:32 > 0:15:35Contact... The front bedroom.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38OK, you move, you're going to get Tasered

0:15:38 > 0:15:41with 50,000 volts - do you understand?

0:15:41 > 0:15:44- Show me your hands. - Do you understand?

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Show me your hands.

0:15:46 > 0:15:47HANDCUFFS CLICK

0:15:47 > 0:15:49What we are going to slowly do...

0:15:49 > 0:15:51We're going to lift this up, yeah?

0:15:51 > 0:15:54I need you to fully understand, when we lift this up,

0:15:54 > 0:15:57you stay exactly where you are, you do not move

0:15:57 > 0:16:00- or you will get Tasered. - I understand, officer.

0:16:00 > 0:16:01You understand that?

0:16:01 > 0:16:03- INDISTINCT - Never mind, never mind.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06He's up here, mate, Janet can come in. Ask Janet to come in.

0:16:06 > 0:16:11- Do you understand me?- I understand, man, you know...- You understand me, yeah?- Pass the other hand over now.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13Pass the other hand over to me now.

0:16:13 > 0:16:15Cuffs on.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17SUSPECT MUTTERS

0:16:17 > 0:16:19- You got him?- Yeah, yeah.

0:16:19 > 0:16:20What's your name, fella?

0:16:22 > 0:16:24- What's your name?- Definitely him.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30So why are you breaking up our bed?

0:16:30 > 0:16:33You just sit down there, mate, you just chill out.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38OK... It's 18:35 and what I'm now going to say to you is...

0:16:38 > 0:16:41You are under arrest on suspicion of a Section 18 - wounding.

0:16:41 > 0:16:43You do not have to say anything...

0:16:43 > 0:16:45Wounding...

0:16:45 > 0:16:48But it may harm your defence if you do not mention, when questioned,

0:16:48 > 0:16:50something which you later rely on in court.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Anything you do say may be given in evidence.

0:16:55 > 0:16:56OK...

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Come on, stand up, we need to search you.

0:17:00 > 0:17:04Have you got anything in your pockets that's going to harm us?

0:17:04 > 0:17:08- To Martin... - You got anything on you now?

0:17:08 > 0:17:09OK...

0:17:09 > 0:17:13Yeah, we've got a male detained, can you coordinate a van for us?

0:17:13 > 0:17:14'Will do, mate.'

0:17:14 > 0:17:17He's got a knife in his pocket.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19- He has?- Yeah.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21'I'd be inhuman if I wasn't nervous.'

0:17:21 > 0:17:24And if I didn't go through the range of emotions that every human being

0:17:24 > 0:17:28goes through, but we're provided with really sound training

0:17:28 > 0:17:31and knowing that I'm going into an address with really experienced

0:17:31 > 0:17:35colleagues that I can rely on and trust with my life,

0:17:35 > 0:17:36and they me, helps you sort of

0:17:36 > 0:17:40plan for a job and get through that situation.

0:17:40 > 0:17:44The female occupant of the house will also be arrested,

0:17:44 > 0:17:47on suspicion of harbouring a criminal.

0:17:47 > 0:17:50What we really need to do is find someone suitable that can look after

0:17:50 > 0:17:53those children tonight. Clearly, your next-door neighbour

0:17:53 > 0:17:57isn't going to be able to look after them beyond maybe an hour or so.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01I need her to come and get the kids from next door.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04I've got to go to the police station.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07In here...

0:18:07 > 0:18:11Just stand there. All right, calm down, calm down.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13- I'm calming down, man...- Calm down.

0:18:15 > 0:18:16Just calm down...

0:18:22 > 0:18:23Just keep calm...

0:18:25 > 0:18:28I know that, but I don't want you to do anything else, all right?

0:18:47 > 0:18:50In Leeds, the Quartz team have raided a house

0:18:50 > 0:18:53where suspected drug dealing's been taking place.

0:18:53 > 0:18:54Police!

0:18:56 > 0:18:57But they have a problem.

0:18:57 > 0:18:59Their target, Anthony Armour,

0:18:59 > 0:19:02has made his getaway by climbing onto the roof.

0:19:04 > 0:19:06Why don't you come down and we'll talk to you about it?

0:19:09 > 0:19:12We've got to consider the safety of him, I mean,

0:19:12 > 0:19:14it's slippery up there, the roofs, you know,

0:19:14 > 0:19:17they're covered in algae, it's damp,

0:19:17 > 0:19:20quite easily slip and it's a long way down.

0:19:20 > 0:19:25And after all, you know, we have caused him to do that.

0:19:25 > 0:19:28Obviously, we haven't asked him to do that, we wish he hadn't,

0:19:28 > 0:19:30but we caused that by our reactions,

0:19:30 > 0:19:34so we've got a duty of care to ensure that he's safe.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41With Armour now considered at risk,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44the team call in a negotiator.

0:19:45 > 0:19:47As they wait for his arrival,

0:19:47 > 0:19:51a search of the house uncovers incriminating evidence.

0:19:51 > 0:19:57Somewhere around there, about 0.2 grams of, er...of heroin,

0:19:57 > 0:20:00obviously don't know what the purity is at this sort of stage.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03It looks like, unfortunately, the guy has...

0:20:03 > 0:20:07has managed to grab a quantity of wraps of drugs,

0:20:07 > 0:20:10when he's got out onto the roof when he locked the door.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12So I guess we think the bulk of it

0:20:12 > 0:20:15is what he's got in his possession now

0:20:15 > 0:20:18and he's obviously weighing up his options on the roof.

0:20:18 > 0:20:20And then the rest of it, there was some surplus items which were

0:20:20 > 0:20:24in the kitchen which is about 20 shots of heroin and crack cocaine.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27So we think that's probably what he's got with him now as well.

0:20:27 > 0:20:28There's electronic scales in there

0:20:28 > 0:20:31with traces of brown powder on grease-proof paper

0:20:31 > 0:20:33so I think he's probably got the larger quantities on him,

0:20:33 > 0:20:35maybe further wraps, then there's other cut-up wraps,

0:20:35 > 0:20:37ready to go, in the kitchen.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40But we think he's probably got most of them with him, so...

0:20:44 > 0:20:48The team close the road to make the area safe.

0:20:48 > 0:20:53But one bystander is eager to offer them advice.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55Unwanted advice.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57That way. Walk that way, now.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59- Walk...- Get off me!

0:20:59 > 0:21:03Walk this way, walk this way right now.

0:21:03 > 0:21:08OK? Walk this way, do not come back onto this street, do you understand?

0:21:08 > 0:21:10As more people gather,

0:21:10 > 0:21:14it's important that officers resolve the stand-off quickly.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23'It's quite hard to reason with people like that.'

0:21:23 > 0:21:28So he was trying to, you know, be the local hero.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32But, er...he wasn't in my eyes.

0:21:32 > 0:21:36He was just a fool who climbed on a roof, who wouldn't come back down.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40But it's trying to make people realise, or certainly in this case,

0:21:40 > 0:21:44that the best option is just to get down off the roof.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47It's not going to go away, we're not just going to all of a sudden say

0:21:47 > 0:21:49"OK, pal, you're on the roof so that's it."

0:21:49 > 0:21:51It doesn't work like that, so...

0:21:51 > 0:21:55It was a case of trying to make him realise that

0:21:55 > 0:21:57sooner rather than later.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01Finally, the negotiator arrives

0:22:01 > 0:22:04and talks to Armour through the roof window.

0:22:06 > 0:22:12They were able to use their training and skills in the right manner.

0:22:12 > 0:22:17Whatever they said had the desired effect because he came down.

0:22:17 > 0:22:21It was either that or it was because it was getting cold and wet!

0:22:24 > 0:22:27When he finally gave up his rooftop protest,

0:22:27 > 0:22:29police charged Anthony Armour

0:22:29 > 0:22:33with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs,

0:22:33 > 0:22:35heroin and crack cocaine.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41He was later convicted and sentenced to four years in prison.

0:22:52 > 0:22:57Most names on the police wanted list are local, but not all.

0:22:59 > 0:23:03On average, 27 foreign criminals are extradited

0:23:03 > 0:23:05from the UK each week.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09These are Europe's most wanted,

0:23:09 > 0:23:12sought by police in their own countries

0:23:12 > 0:23:15for everything from murder and rape to a breach of bail.

0:23:19 > 0:23:23The European Arrest Warrant allows the police here to arrest them

0:23:23 > 0:23:27and put them on planes back home, where justice awaits.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31The European Arrest Warrant

0:23:31 > 0:23:34is something that's issued throughout the EU.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36Should somebody be, for example,

0:23:36 > 0:23:38wanted in Poland and moved to the UK,

0:23:38 > 0:23:41then Poland can issue a European Arrest Warrant for us to act on

0:23:41 > 0:23:45here in the UK so we can arrest them and send them back to Poland.

0:23:47 > 0:23:52For six years, PC Dave Lockwood and his partner Andy Milion

0:23:52 > 0:23:55have been arresting wanted European criminals

0:23:55 > 0:23:57who've made new lives in West Yorkshire.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00Today brings a new case.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04This is straightforward, simple.

0:24:04 > 0:24:05I'm not saying that any more

0:24:05 > 0:24:08because every time I've said straightforward and simple,

0:24:08 > 0:24:13- we've ended up working over for hours and it's been loads of issues. - Have we? I've not noticed(!)

0:24:13 > 0:24:18So I'll say, on that paper, it doesn't look any aggravating factors

0:24:18 > 0:24:23or any issues, so we'll just see what we find at the address.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26Marcin, or Mark-in Osinski.

0:24:26 > 0:24:27Mar-chin.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Their latest target is Marcin Osinski.

0:24:30 > 0:24:35Like many of the foreign fugitives the officers have dealt with,

0:24:35 > 0:24:36he's Polish.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Funnily enough, I actually got put on a...

0:24:38 > 0:24:42Well, I looked into a Polish course, basic Polish,

0:24:42 > 0:24:44about £300, about three months.

0:24:44 > 0:24:48But just with working shifts, it's just a nightmare.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50But I really could do with it with this job.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Osinski is 31 and wanted

0:24:55 > 0:24:58for burglary in his home country.

0:25:04 > 0:25:09Intelligence suggests he's now living in the Seacroft area of Leeds.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17When I get a European Arrest Warrant allocated, I study it

0:25:17 > 0:25:19and look into it as much as possible

0:25:19 > 0:25:21to try and build a profile of that person

0:25:21 > 0:25:23to work out a risk assessment,

0:25:23 > 0:25:26so I know I've got the right arrest plan,

0:25:26 > 0:25:29to minimise risk and minimise me getting hurt, basically.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44KNOCKING

0:25:45 > 0:25:48- Who is it?- It's the police, love.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55Hello, sorry to bother you. Is it your dog in the house?

0:25:55 > 0:25:57Yes, I have... One second.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01Do you want to put the dog somewhere safe so we can come and talk to you?

0:26:01 > 0:26:04- Sorry?- Can you put the dog somewhere safe so we can come and talk to you?

0:26:04 > 0:26:08- Hello there, pal, all right?- Hiya. - Cool. Who else is in there with you?

0:26:08 > 0:26:11- Sorry?- Who else is in the house with you?

0:26:11 > 0:26:13Yeah, my baby and my partner.

0:26:13 > 0:26:14Hello, mate.

0:26:14 > 0:26:16- OK if we come in for two minutes, have a word?- Yes.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18OK, where are we going, through here?

0:26:18 > 0:26:21- OK, have we got a light?- Yes.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24- Right, what's your name, pal? - Marcin Osinski.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26OK, have you got some ID, please?

0:26:26 > 0:26:29I know it's really worrying for you, we'll try and...

0:26:29 > 0:26:31- I know it's really worrying you, you've got a baby.- Yes.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33We'll try and be as quiet as we can, OK?

0:26:34 > 0:26:37- Marcin, you speak good English?- No.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39- Little?- Very.

0:26:39 > 0:26:42OK, we've got a little bit of bad news for you.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46There's a warrant been issued for your arrest, OK?

0:26:46 > 0:26:47What...what happens, so...

0:26:47 > 0:26:51Shh, hang on, let's deal with Marcin. Just one minute, love.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53You know about it, don't you?

0:26:54 > 0:26:57Look, mate, I'll give you a minute for it to settle in,

0:26:57 > 0:26:59I'll try and make it as easy as I can for you, all right?

0:26:59 > 0:27:01I can see you've got a baby there.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04You know why we're here, though, yeah?

0:27:04 > 0:27:08OK. Right, just... don't start panicking.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10I'll help you through with this and I'll talk you through it.

0:27:10 > 0:27:14Right, don't just presume cos I'm here now, you're going to Poland.

0:27:14 > 0:27:19- Poland?- No, no, just calm down and let's do one step at a time, OK?

0:27:19 > 0:27:21Right, first of all I've got to arrest you,

0:27:21 > 0:27:23then I'll talk to you and tell you all about it, OK?

0:27:23 > 0:27:27I'm arresting you on a European Arrest Warrant which has been issued

0:27:27 > 0:27:28in Poland for an offence of burglary.

0:27:28 > 0:27:30You do not have to say anything

0:27:30 > 0:27:33but anything you do say may be given in evidence.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49In Manchester, the Critical Wanted Team have tracked down their man.

0:27:51 > 0:27:52Come out, fella.

0:27:52 > 0:27:54Stay exactly where you are, mate.

0:27:54 > 0:27:58Neville Powell is suspected of a vicious assault on a woman.

0:27:58 > 0:28:02- Contact... The front bedroom. - Officers have found him hiding

0:28:02 > 0:28:04at another woman's house.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08And they've arrested him with extreme caution.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11You move, you are going to get Tasered with 50,000 volts,

0:28:11 > 0:28:13do you understand? Yeah?

0:28:13 > 0:28:15- Show me your hands.- You understand?

0:28:15 > 0:28:18Because of the risk factors surrounding this male,

0:28:18 > 0:28:21he initially had a Taser trained on him,

0:28:21 > 0:28:24and that was basically to reduce any risk that he might

0:28:24 > 0:28:26present to us, but also the risk to himself.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29It basically just stopped him from wanting to fight with us.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32And he was subsequently handcuffed without any problems,

0:28:32 > 0:28:34any risk to us or any injuries to him.

0:28:38 > 0:28:41Powell will now be taken to the custody suite,

0:28:41 > 0:28:43where he'll be formally charged.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46'It's a good buzz when you find somebody,

0:28:46 > 0:28:48'when you're looking for them,

0:28:48 > 0:28:51'when you know that they're a risk to other people...'

0:28:51 > 0:28:54It's a really good feeling for the team, it's a real good motivator

0:28:54 > 0:28:56for the team, because you know

0:28:56 > 0:29:00as well as doing your job, you're actually making other lives safer.

0:29:01 > 0:29:05The female occupant of the house is also off to custody.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09As it transpired, she hardly knew him -

0:29:09 > 0:29:12she'd met him via a dating website, he'd rocked up with a bag.

0:29:12 > 0:29:17She knew nothing about him and she'd inadvertently exposed her kids

0:29:17 > 0:29:21to quite a significant threat from a male that she knew nothing about.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25I'm not judging her, it's how these people tend to get on.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28They sort of prey on females that are vulnerable,

0:29:28 > 0:29:32for whatever reason. Take as much as they can out of them

0:29:32 > 0:29:34and ruin their lives and move on.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40Any investigation where you're looking for somebody,

0:29:40 > 0:29:42you'll have the people who do know what they're doing...

0:29:42 > 0:29:45And it's quite right that then they get brought to justice,

0:29:45 > 0:29:47but then you get, as in this case, the innocent people

0:29:47 > 0:29:50who don't know until you actually go knocking on their door,

0:29:50 > 0:29:54and then they're in absolute shock. And you feel sorry for those people,

0:29:54 > 0:29:56because she clearly didn't know the risks that she was

0:29:56 > 0:29:58putting herself and her family under

0:29:58 > 0:30:00by allowing him to go to her address.

0:30:19 > 0:30:21Back in Leeds,

0:30:21 > 0:30:24Dave Lockwood has executed a European Arrest Warrant

0:30:24 > 0:30:26on Marcin Osinski.

0:30:27 > 0:30:29You are now under arrest.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32You're going to be coming with me to the police station, OK?

0:30:32 > 0:30:35You're going to be going to court tomorrow.

0:30:35 > 0:30:38He's wanted for a burglary committed back in his homeland.

0:30:41 > 0:30:42It's bad news for a family

0:30:42 > 0:30:45who thought they'd made a new start in the UK.

0:30:46 > 0:30:49You obviously don't want to go back to Poland, that's clear, yeah?

0:30:49 > 0:30:52So you can appeal to stay here.

0:30:52 > 0:30:54While you appeal your extradition,

0:30:54 > 0:30:56you will either have to wait in London,

0:30:56 > 0:30:59or you can come back here and live a normal life here

0:30:59 > 0:31:00with your family and child,

0:31:00 > 0:31:04- BUT the Polish do want you to go back to Poland, OK?- OK.

0:31:04 > 0:31:06So calm down, it doesn't mean you're going anywhere.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09If you're working and looking after them, providing,

0:31:09 > 0:31:10I know what's going through your head.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12You're worrying about your wife and kid, OK?

0:31:12 > 0:31:14I will help you through it,

0:31:14 > 0:31:17but I have a job to do to get you to the police station.

0:31:17 > 0:31:18'I'm not there to judge them.'

0:31:18 > 0:31:20I say that to some of them -

0:31:20 > 0:31:22"Look, I'm not here to judge you, but I've got a job to do.

0:31:22 > 0:31:24"You're going to have to go to court and come with me,

0:31:24 > 0:31:27"you'll have to face the music for something that's happened."

0:31:27 > 0:31:29But they all know.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31I mean, if we're talking Poland in particular,

0:31:31 > 0:31:34they know that Poland never forgets.

0:31:34 > 0:31:37If they've committed a crime, they will have to go back,

0:31:37 > 0:31:38they will have to deal with it.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41'Unfortunately, when I walk through the door

0:31:41 > 0:31:43'and see a lot of these people, it's always at the worst time.'

0:31:43 > 0:31:46But I need to know you're not going to do owt silly

0:31:46 > 0:31:47or panic, all right?

0:31:47 > 0:31:50I'm being kind to you -

0:31:50 > 0:31:52don't mistake that for weakness, OK?

0:31:54 > 0:31:56If you start messing around,

0:31:56 > 0:31:58then we'll have to deal with that, all right?

0:31:58 > 0:32:00You knew about this warrant, yes?

0:32:01 > 0:32:04You just didn't think it'd happen here? Yeah, OK.

0:32:10 > 0:32:12You get the situation, as well,

0:32:12 > 0:32:14where they want to cuddle the baby before they go.

0:32:16 > 0:32:18But, then, you've got to judge that.

0:32:18 > 0:32:20You don't want to say no,

0:32:20 > 0:32:23but if they cuddle that baby and decide not to let go of that baby,

0:32:23 > 0:32:26then you've got an issue, cos you can't force a baby off somebody.

0:32:26 > 0:32:29It's more decisions to make because we've had that before,

0:32:29 > 0:32:31where people use babies and kids as shields.

0:32:33 > 0:32:35You sort of look at somebody's behaviour

0:32:35 > 0:32:36when you meet them -

0:32:36 > 0:32:38you look at how they're behaving,

0:32:38 > 0:32:43and it's something I'd have wanted to do, so why not let him?

0:32:43 > 0:32:45If he would've been aggressive - no chance.

0:32:45 > 0:32:47He'd have had cuffs on him, and been straight out of there.

0:32:47 > 0:32:49But he's worried about his family,

0:32:49 > 0:32:53AND there's a good chance he's going to have a swift extradition,

0:32:53 > 0:32:56so let him see his kid, let him give him that cuddle.

0:32:56 > 0:32:59Cos if he's going back to prison for 18 months,

0:32:59 > 0:33:00like the Polish want,

0:33:00 > 0:33:02that cuddle might be the thing that he clings onto,

0:33:02 > 0:33:06and gets him through that custodial sentence. So why not?

0:33:09 > 0:33:11I'll look after him, OK?

0:33:15 > 0:33:19COUPLE SPEAK POLISH

0:33:19 > 0:33:21It's quite emotional for them.

0:33:21 > 0:33:24They've got a really sort of small space.

0:33:24 > 0:33:27So we're going to go search him outside here, cuff him outside here,

0:33:27 > 0:33:31so they don't see. Just a bit of respect for him. Dignity.

0:33:31 > 0:33:33SPEAKING POLISH

0:33:35 > 0:33:36OK, come on, pal.

0:33:36 > 0:33:39Right, listen, listen... Just wait on a minute.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42Shut the door, please. OK, bye-bye. Shut the door, please.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45We didn't want to handcuff you, or do anything in there,

0:33:45 > 0:33:47out of respect for your missus, all right?

0:33:47 > 0:33:49We didn't want her any more upset

0:33:49 > 0:33:51but you need to be handcuffed, OK? You understand?

0:33:51 > 0:33:54Have you got anything in your pockets?

0:33:56 > 0:33:58She was emotional as it were.

0:33:58 > 0:34:00He was being OK with us,

0:34:00 > 0:34:02he'd had a cuddle with the kid, which is what he wanted,

0:34:02 > 0:34:05and it's just a tactic we can do.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07We don't have to handcuff people in front of their family.

0:34:07 > 0:34:11It sort of...it builds trust between us, I think.

0:34:11 > 0:34:14With that person, who I don't know, we've got to build a relationship.

0:34:14 > 0:34:18And by saying to him, "Look, I'm going to show you a bit of respect

0:34:18 > 0:34:21"and not handcuff you and shame you in front of your family,"

0:34:21 > 0:34:24then he might think, "Do you know what, this guy's all right.

0:34:24 > 0:34:26"He's doing his job, he's being all right with me.

0:34:26 > 0:34:29"But he's being firm and he's doing his job," so...

0:34:30 > 0:34:33..it sort of starts the trust process, I think.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39You know, you feel sorry for the missus and, again, for the kid.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41The kid's done nothing wrong, has it?

0:34:41 > 0:34:44You don't want to take the dad away - kids need both parents -

0:34:44 > 0:34:45but...what can I do?

0:34:45 > 0:34:46I'm only...

0:34:46 > 0:34:48I'm only a mere PC.

0:34:48 > 0:34:52I'm only here to do what I can do, I can't change the world, can I?

0:35:00 > 0:35:02Yeah, just try and reassure him and calm him down, mate.

0:35:02 > 0:35:04It was quite upsetting, wasn't it?

0:35:06 > 0:35:07In Polish, explaining.

0:35:09 > 0:35:11It explains. That's for you, OK?

0:35:15 > 0:35:17Are you working?

0:35:17 > 0:35:19TNT Post.

0:35:19 > 0:35:21- Driving?- No.- Packing?

0:35:21 > 0:35:22- Packer.- Big warehouse.

0:35:37 > 0:35:41The officers take their prisoner to the Leeds custody suite.

0:35:43 > 0:35:47Here he's processed before being sent to appear before a court in London.

0:35:49 > 0:35:52Would you like to explain to me why he's been arrested?

0:35:52 > 0:35:55- Um, we've been to...Marcin? - "Mar-chin."

0:35:55 > 0:35:58Er, Marcin's, er, home address in Leeds.

0:35:58 > 0:36:01There is in existence a European Arrest Warrant

0:36:01 > 0:36:04for what's best described as a burglary offence

0:36:04 > 0:36:06that's happened in Poland.

0:36:06 > 0:36:09He's been arrested under the warrant,

0:36:09 > 0:36:12to appear before Westminster Court tomorrow

0:36:12 > 0:36:14with regard his possible remand.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17OK, Marcin, do you understand what the officer's just said?

0:36:17 > 0:36:20- I don't speak English. - You don't speak English?

0:36:20 > 0:36:22- No.- What language do you speak?

0:36:22 > 0:36:24- Polish.- Polish, OK.

0:36:24 > 0:36:27We'll get a Polish interpreter on the telephone for you, OK?

0:36:31 > 0:36:33Two thumbs on there, pal.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35In the box. That's it.

0:36:35 > 0:36:37Nice and still, don't move. Don't move.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39MACHINE CLICKS

0:36:39 > 0:36:41Right, mate. Nice and still.

0:36:41 > 0:36:43MACHINE CLICKS

0:36:43 > 0:36:44You're a good lad, then?

0:36:44 > 0:36:47Stayed out of bother while you've been here in the UK?

0:36:47 > 0:36:50You just work and look after your family?

0:36:50 > 0:36:52You could say this is tough,

0:36:52 > 0:36:55picking someone up from one country and taking them to another...

0:36:55 > 0:36:56um, but it's burglary, innit?

0:36:56 > 0:36:58Someone's had their house robbed

0:36:58 > 0:37:00and is going to be upset walking around that house,

0:37:00 > 0:37:03knowing that someone's been in there and taken their possessions.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07I've just done a report for the judge tomorrow,

0:37:07 > 0:37:10with the information, and,

0:37:10 > 0:37:13I've let him know you're not a bad man, OK?

0:37:14 > 0:37:17So you need to make sure you do your part of the bargain -

0:37:17 > 0:37:20if you get bail, you don't disappear, OK?

0:37:20 > 0:37:23Cos if you try running and disappearing,

0:37:23 > 0:37:25and we do find you, then you will be going back to Poland.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28You won't be seeing your kid again, OK?

0:37:28 > 0:37:30Take a seat on there, pal.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43OK, I'm going to pop you back in your cell, mate.

0:37:43 > 0:37:46We can't do it. We haven't got cards to get down... Ah.

0:37:46 > 0:37:48There we go, then. We can do it.

0:37:57 > 0:38:00We went through the process, put him before the court

0:38:00 > 0:38:04and, as expected, a really swift extradition - 17 days later.

0:38:04 > 0:38:07Picked him up, put him on a plane back to Poland.

0:38:07 > 0:38:09Gone within 17 days.

0:38:15 > 0:38:21So that moment of grabbing his baby and cuddling his baby...

0:38:21 > 0:38:22Yeah. I don't... I don't know

0:38:22 > 0:38:24if he'll have got another chance to see his child.

0:38:43 > 0:38:44Earlier, in Manchester,

0:39:16 > 0:39:17a dangerous individual off the streets.

0:39:17 > 0:39:19On a number of levels, it's satisfying,

0:39:19 > 0:39:22because you know that the personal sacrifice you personally have made

0:39:22 > 0:39:24in not putting your kids to bed

0:39:24 > 0:39:26or bathing your kids or getting home on time

0:39:26 > 0:39:28or seeing your wife and family,

0:39:28 > 0:39:30you know that hasn't been for nothing.

0:39:30 > 0:39:34You know that you've done the right thing by the victim,

0:39:34 > 0:39:36but also that you've done your job well

0:39:36 > 0:39:38and you've all come out of that safe

0:39:38 > 0:39:40and you've done it professionally.

0:39:42 > 0:39:47Now in police custody, Neville Powell will be formally charged.

0:39:47 > 0:39:50The assault that he was wanted for was a really nasty assault

0:39:50 > 0:39:53and that's something where it's not a one-off.

0:39:53 > 0:39:57This person had antecedents of being a violent criminal

0:39:57 > 0:39:58and that's exactly what it was

0:39:58 > 0:40:02and that's why it was really important that we arrested him

0:40:02 > 0:40:03as soon as we possibly could do

0:40:03 > 0:40:05to make the life of the victim a lot easier,

0:40:05 > 0:40:08but the risk to the wider public,

0:40:08 > 0:40:09there was a risk to them as well.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15Time for the team to question the suspect about the violent attack.

0:40:18 > 0:40:21You've been arrested on suspicion of a Section 18 assault,

0:40:21 > 0:40:23which is a serious assault.

0:40:24 > 0:40:27It's alleged that you have arrived at the address,

0:40:27 > 0:40:30knocked on the door and asked if you could go in.

0:40:31 > 0:40:34So after that, you've become more and more aggressive

0:40:34 > 0:40:36and start pacing up and down.

0:40:36 > 0:40:38She then felt a blow to her head...

0:40:39 > 0:40:42..and being dragged to the floor by her hair.

0:40:42 > 0:40:46She's then been stamped on, punched several times.

0:40:46 > 0:40:49You've then got a knife from the kitchen.

0:40:49 > 0:40:51She's scared to death.

0:40:51 > 0:40:55You've come back in the room with a kettle full of boiling water,

0:40:55 > 0:40:57thrown it at her...

0:40:57 > 0:41:01Actually, you've had some disclosure through your solicitor...

0:41:02 > 0:41:05- ..what we believe has taken place at that address.- Hmm.

0:41:06 > 0:41:08Do you agree with that?

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Is that a true account of what went on that morning?

0:41:13 > 0:41:15What has this person done to you...

0:41:16 > 0:41:18..to make you...

0:41:18 > 0:41:20pour scalding water over her?

0:41:21 > 0:41:23Punch, kick,

0:41:23 > 0:41:26and God knows what else you were about to do?

0:41:26 > 0:41:28LOUD YAWNING

0:41:28 > 0:41:30You're yawning - are you tired?

0:41:33 > 0:41:35Whenever you deal with any type of offence

0:41:35 > 0:41:38where there's significant violence used to a person,

0:41:38 > 0:41:39you think to yourself,

0:41:39 > 0:41:42"How can somebody, one person, do that to another?"

0:41:42 > 0:41:44It really does sort of...

0:41:44 > 0:41:47It's quite distressing, but you've got to deal with it

0:41:47 > 0:41:49with a level head and you've got to be subjective

0:41:49 > 0:41:52when you're dealing with these kinds of things

0:41:52 > 0:41:54and over time and experience,

0:41:54 > 0:41:58you sort of learn to manage your emotions just to get the job done.

0:42:00 > 0:42:04Enough evidence was eventually gathered in order for the team

0:42:04 > 0:42:07to take the case to the Crown Prosecution Service

0:42:07 > 0:42:10and Neville Powell was detained in police custody.

0:42:11 > 0:42:13I just like arresting people,

0:42:13 > 0:42:15arresting criminals.

0:42:15 > 0:42:20I like outsmarting criminals in their own back garden

0:42:20 > 0:42:23and taking the fight to them.

0:42:23 > 0:42:26Yeah, they may be able to go out and commit crimes,

0:42:26 > 0:42:28commit horrible things against decent people,

0:42:28 > 0:42:31but, ultimately, there's a team out there

0:42:31 > 0:42:34that are dedicated to bringing these people to justice

0:42:34 > 0:42:37and sending them to jail and I'm one of that team.

0:42:39 > 0:42:41When the case finally went to court,

0:42:41 > 0:42:46the jury found Powell guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

0:42:46 > 0:42:49He was sent to prison for 13 years.

0:42:50 > 0:42:53A great result for the Critical Wanted Unit.

0:42:54 > 0:42:57I'm just really proud to be head of that team

0:42:57 > 0:43:01and to see the fantastic results that they keep achieving.

0:43:01 > 0:43:03I'm just the person who sits in the background.

0:43:03 > 0:43:05It's them that go out and do the real hard work.
