0:00:43 > 0:00:46# Make me a chalice

0:00:46 > 0:00:47# I'm only a hut

0:00:48 > 0:00:52# Make me a palace

0:00:52 > 0:00:54# I can be as wild as a bumble bee

0:00:54 > 0:00:57# And fly with the eagles above

0:00:57 > 0:01:00# I don't care whatever you make of me

0:01:00 > 0:01:03# Just make me your love

0:01:03 > 0:01:06# Just make me your love

0:01:14 > 0:01:18# Make me a miracle... #

0:01:22 > 0:01:26Well, years ago, before there was helicopters,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29there was a witch lived down here in this pantry.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32It's called the Witch's Fort.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36And she could come along on a broomstick

0:01:36 > 0:01:40and she was that bad that she could cut the head off a person

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and just take their head and dump it.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49But there's none of them about now. They were all done away with.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53After the witches left, the English army came.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56It was a notorious change.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00The English army liked to fly about in helicopters.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07This is where the helicopters comes down.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11And it looks as though there was a slurry tank, as well,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13when the army was here.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17And up here, the army post was all right round here

0:02:17 > 0:02:21and there was rows of barbed wire all round the whole place.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25I'll try and get you down the handiest way I can, now.

0:02:27 > 0:02:33I lived all my life here during the past 73 years in County Armagh,

0:02:33 > 0:02:37where the border of the north meets the Free State of Ireland.

0:02:39 > 0:02:44There used to be money made from the land, but that's all changed now.

0:02:47 > 0:02:52The only business I see booming is the fireworks factory.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56Another business that's doing well at the present time

0:02:56 > 0:02:57is the medical business.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01Oh! Oh!

0:03:03 > 0:03:04It's hard to believe,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07but there's an awful lot of things that can be cured without medicine.

0:03:09 > 0:03:14One character that has cures is Eamonn McDermott from Ballylynan.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17He specialises in getting rid of ringworm.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20If it's not treated in time,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23it could wipe out a whole herd of stock.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Can you give me the bucket?

0:03:33 > 0:03:35It'll take a wee while, like.

0:03:35 > 0:03:40He just spits on the ringworm and off it goes like a flash.

0:03:41 > 0:03:42That's it.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45What were you doing there?

0:03:45 > 0:03:48- Making the sign of the cross in the ground, just.- What does that do?

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Well, that's it finished. That's part of the cure, like.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53- Part of the ringworm? - That's part of the cure.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58- Ah, I see. - That's the job. That's the job now.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05And it's not just the animals that can be healed, it's people as well.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09Of course, people is animals, anyhow.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15If you look round the country and talk to some of the people,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18you can find a cure for nearly everything.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Joe put the dog out. On the way out, the dog bit Joe and pulled it...

0:04:23 > 0:04:26bit his whole hand. After the mission was over, Joe says,

0:04:26 > 0:04:31"Look at that there, Father" and he just spat on it like that

0:04:31 > 0:04:33and he said the next morning, there wasn't a trace of it.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36Gone. Gone completely.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39Another good one was the warts.

0:04:39 > 0:04:43The warts is a snail. Rubbing a snail on it.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46If you rub a black snail on a wart and stick it on a thorn bush,

0:04:46 > 0:04:50a black thorn bush, as it withers away,

0:04:50 > 0:04:55- the warts wear away. - That's right.- The warts will go.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58And it definitely works, all right?

0:04:59 > 0:05:02He said that's the only miracle he ever saw.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09If you were completely baldy, get yourself a goat

0:05:09 > 0:05:14and remove its bladder, fill it with urine,

0:05:14 > 0:05:18then hang it up in the chimney, till it's as dry as a bone.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23Then grind it up and, with a little onion, rub it into your scalp.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25That should do the trick.

0:05:32 > 0:05:37You hear good stories about cures and about miracles and all that.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41You see, most of the educated people, including priests

0:05:41 > 0:05:46and even government officials, they had all the history,

0:05:46 > 0:05:51and they let it all go, they took it to their graves with them.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54No-one else was to know anything, only the smart people, years ago.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58That's how history was lost.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01And then other people had to come along,

0:06:01 > 0:06:04and there was an awful job piecing everything together.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08You know, there will be bits missing here and there.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12You're doing your best to...

0:06:12 > 0:06:14Well, to revive everything.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24I'm collecting all these old stories about cures

0:06:24 > 0:06:26and lots of other things, as well.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30They've gone into my new book.

0:06:36 > 0:06:43That's a wee typewriter I got for £35 about ten years ago.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45They were, kind of, out of date then.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50But you can still buy the spools for them.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53- Hi, Pete, your brother's writing his stories.- Oh!

0:06:55 > 0:06:59There was a 70-year-old frisky man from Creeve,

0:06:59 > 0:07:03and he was out for a walk with his wife

0:07:03 > 0:07:08and he seen a young girl on the road and he run after her.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10He shouted and whistled.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13I don't think much of stories.

0:07:13 > 0:07:17It can be dangerous. There are some people awful, er,

0:07:17 > 0:07:19sensitive, like...

0:07:20 > 0:07:24..you know, if you put anything in about them.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28Pete's not so sure if these things should be published,

0:07:28 > 0:07:30but no-one's complained in the past.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33This book is only the truth about miracles.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39There was a young woman from County Louth

0:07:39 > 0:07:42and she took the shingles.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45The doctor said himself that he couldn't cure her

0:07:45 > 0:07:48and that she'd have to get the curer.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51So, she went to the man in the scheme.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54He took her out to the garden and he says,

0:07:54 > 0:07:57"I'm looking for clay that never got the sun

0:07:57 > 0:08:02"and that there's no worms in. I have to dig down a bit to get it."

0:08:02 > 0:08:05So, he got some of the clay

0:08:05 > 0:08:07and she got the surprise of her life.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10He put some of the clay on her head...

0:08:11 > 0:08:17..and he told her to come back in another three days.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20She said she got cured and it never came back to her.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23Oh, it's a mystery, surely, how it works. It is, aye.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26I wouldn't know how it works. I don't know why.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29I suppose The Almighty had something to do with it.

0:08:34 > 0:08:39Pat O'Rourke has a special gift and is able to cure sprains

0:08:39 > 0:08:42and he wants to pass it on to his granddaughter,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44hopefully, before he kicks the bucket.

0:08:46 > 0:08:51And another thing - when the seventh son of a seventh son is born,

0:08:52 > 0:08:58in some areas, they put a live worm in the heart of that child's hand.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02And that worm dies.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06And once that worm dies,

0:09:06 > 0:09:09that child has the cure for everything.

0:09:09 > 0:09:10Really?

0:09:10 > 0:09:12Well, so they say.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16They're what you call faith healers.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18There can't be many of them left.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20There wouldn't be many these times,

0:09:20 > 0:09:23but I think there's about five in Ireland, at the minute.

0:09:27 > 0:09:33If you're bleeding and you can't get it to stop, just get Pat Traynor.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37Is there many of the younger generation taking it on?

0:09:37 > 0:09:41Well, that's what we don't know.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Well, maybe not as many.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46And have you passed them on to anyone, Pat, your cures?

0:09:46 > 0:09:48No. I wouldn't...

0:09:48 > 0:09:50I mean to it.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53- You told me them.- Oh, I know I did.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02This cure goes back generations in that particular family.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12It's awful, cos he was crying from ten o'clock in the morning

0:10:12 > 0:10:14and cried right through till eight

0:10:14 > 0:10:18the next morning. They admitted him into the hospital, so they did.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Now, if a child won't stop crying because of the colic,

0:10:27 > 0:10:31Mary Brady will fix it. Better than any doctor.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35Where I'm from, there's loads of people live beside us

0:10:35 > 0:10:40have had it done with their kids and they recommended it.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50Young people wouldn't want much to do with cures,

0:10:50 > 0:10:52cos it takes up their time.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54They won't do anything unless they're getting

0:10:54 > 0:10:55a handful of money for it.

0:10:57 > 0:10:58I hope they never fade away.

0:11:03 > 0:11:04That's the whole of it.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10Oh, yes!

0:11:10 > 0:11:12Where's my boy?

0:11:12 > 0:11:13Where is my boy?

0:11:15 > 0:11:17It's a knot in the gut,

0:11:17 > 0:11:20and I use the string to release that knot.

0:11:30 > 0:11:35- The children are very important to you, aren't they?- Yeah. Yeah.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37They're great.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41- How many children do you have yourself?- I have no family.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43- No family.- Oh.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46No. No family.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51I do have nieces and nephews. Good nieces and good nephews.

0:12:02 > 0:12:06Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace,

0:12:06 > 0:12:08where there is despair, hope,

0:12:08 > 0:12:10and where there is sadness, joy.

0:12:10 > 0:12:17O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled

0:12:17 > 0:12:18as to console.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22To be understood as to understand,

0:12:22 > 0:12:25to be loved as to love,

0:12:25 > 0:12:28for it is in giving that we receive,

0:12:28 > 0:12:32and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36St Francis of Assisi.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40- Who put that there, do you think? - I don't know.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42- Oh. - I never even noticed it was there.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44- Really?- No.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49- Would it be your mum that put it there?- It could've been.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Was she a religious woman?

0:12:53 > 0:12:54Kinda.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58She always went to mass.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02- Do you go to mass?- The odd time.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04- The odd time?- Aye.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07I don't be too particular.

0:13:07 > 0:13:11- Do you want a cup of tea?- Aye.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Here's a lucky charm, St Brigid's Cross.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18It's a Celtic cross made out of rushes,

0:13:18 > 0:13:20in honour of St Brigid.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23Patron saint of Faughart, County Louth.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29It's meant to ward off spirits.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31That's evil spirits.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40That's only a wee cross that I made,

0:13:40 > 0:13:42and that's a doll.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46- I just nailed that on. - And why did you make it?

0:13:47 > 0:13:52Well, just to re-enact what happened years back.

0:13:54 > 0:13:59- History's important to you, isn't it? - It is. All kinds of history.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04When St Patrick was on his way from Dundalk,

0:14:04 > 0:14:07he called here and he says,

0:14:07 > 0:14:11"On this rock, I'll say mass for the pagans of Ireland."

0:14:13 > 0:14:19At that time St Patrick didn't believe in curers or any other

0:14:19 > 0:14:25pagan healers, but the local people held on to them, anyhow.

0:14:29 > 0:14:34The clergy of all denominations condemned curers.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38They said they were the possession of the devil.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45But strangely enough, some Christian priests found that they were

0:14:45 > 0:14:47faith healers themselves.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52And now there's a Father Conlan,

0:14:52 > 0:14:56from County Monaghan, that can cure nearly anything.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03MUSIC: "Backwoods Preacher Man" by Tony Joe White

0:15:03 > 0:15:07# Way down in the country

0:15:07 > 0:15:10# Back in the Arkansas

0:15:10 > 0:15:14# There's a man that were working for Jesus

0:15:14 > 0:15:17# Trying to do some good

0:15:17 > 0:15:21# He don't have no fancy building

0:15:21 > 0:15:25# Just a big old raggedy tent

0:15:25 > 0:15:28# And the people who come to see him

0:15:28 > 0:15:31# Believe he was heaven sent

0:15:33 > 0:15:36# Backwoods preacher man

0:15:36 > 0:15:39# Doing the best he can

0:15:40 > 0:15:43# Backwoods preacher man

0:15:43 > 0:15:47# Trying to give the Lord a hand... #

0:15:47 > 0:15:49Father Conlan travels up and down the border

0:15:49 > 0:15:53healing people with prayers,

0:15:53 > 0:15:58and people believe that he can save them from the clutches of the devil.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00The devil gets in everywhere cos people...

0:16:00 > 0:16:02Once you've no sense of God and no prayer in your life,

0:16:02 > 0:16:03you've no chance.

0:16:03 > 0:16:07Evil just takes you over. I think. There's no hope, is there?

0:16:08 > 0:16:11You seem to be able to give people that.

0:16:11 > 0:16:12The thing that they're missing.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16They come looking for hope.

0:16:16 > 0:16:17PHONE RINGS

0:16:17 > 0:16:18DOG HOWLS

0:16:21 > 0:16:24I have you down for one o'clock, yeah. OK.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29People will ring up and I take £2 just for the...

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Got 38 people in.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35You kill me.

0:16:35 > 0:16:4038. They're coming more, Daniel, cos we have a lot of gypsies tomorrow.

0:16:40 > 0:16:46- Oh.- Yeah. It's a group of six, but there could be ten of them.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49Rose, put a sign out - "gone fishing".

0:16:57 > 0:17:01He just sees people individually, blesses them with the holy oils

0:17:01 > 0:17:04and that, but you have to have an appointment to see him.

0:17:04 > 0:17:05Oh, fair enough, fair enough.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10They tell me whatever ailment they have and I'll pray over them

0:17:10 > 0:17:12for five to ten minutes.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15Sometimes I've prayed with people and the heat was that enormous,

0:17:15 > 0:17:17it was like a furnace, it was that warm.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19and people have felt it, I've felt it,

0:17:19 > 0:17:22and there's other times I've prayed where people have felt it cold.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24Everybody's different.

0:17:24 > 0:17:28My brother came cos he had sore feet.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31My niece came because she had psoriasis,

0:17:31 > 0:17:35my friend came cos he had psoriasis.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39So I have a pain in my back, and I said, "Oh, I must come,"

0:17:39 > 0:17:42and my other niece had psoriasis, but she wasn't available,

0:17:42 > 0:17:46so I said I'd bring Mum, cos I did think she was going downhill.

0:17:46 > 0:17:50And maybe it's cos she didn't have enough variety in her life

0:17:50 > 0:17:54or whatever, but I just thought she'd get a boost.

0:17:54 > 0:17:58And Father Conlan anointed her and they say when you're anointed,

0:17:58 > 0:18:00it does give you a boost.

0:18:00 > 0:18:01But certainly did with mummy,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04I couldn't believe her on Monday and Tuesday.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06People like Father Conlan are gifted

0:18:06 > 0:18:12and I do believe they can perform miracles, actually.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20If you haven't faith, you have nothing.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27There. If you don't believe...

0:18:27 > 0:18:30No, I do, I have a very strange faith.

0:18:30 > 0:18:31I have an a la carte kind of thing.

0:18:31 > 0:18:35I pick the bits I like, and I leave the bits I don't like.

0:18:35 > 0:18:39But your faith hasn't waivered, Mum, you've still very strong faith.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42That's the way I was brought up.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44- You don't question it.- Not really.

0:18:44 > 0:18:48I might question it in me own mind, you know?

0:18:48 > 0:18:50My mum was trying everything, cos she's in such pain,

0:18:50 > 0:18:52we said we'd just try everything.

0:18:52 > 0:18:56So, we said we're going to Father Conlan cos I have great faith in him.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03There was one day there was about 30 people waiting outside the door.

0:19:03 > 0:19:04It was just crazy.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09A friend of mine said, "this will be like a monster," he said,

0:19:09 > 0:19:12"it'll get bigger and bigger and bigger."

0:19:12 > 0:19:15And I sort of laughed it off. I thought in a few months,

0:19:15 > 0:19:20people wouldn't be coming, but I never had a minute's peace since.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22PHONE RINGS

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Hello, Father Conlan's.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27Well, now, you're not going to get him today, OK?

0:19:28 > 0:19:31OK, thank you. Bye-bye.

0:19:33 > 0:19:38If I let people know he was up there today, they'd just go up.

0:19:38 > 0:19:42- Would they?- Without an appointment and they'd expect him to see them,

0:19:42 > 0:19:43you know what I mean?

0:19:43 > 0:19:46Which isn't fair for the person that I've told to come at two o'clock,

0:19:46 > 0:19:48you know what I mean?

0:19:49 > 0:19:51I can't close the door on people.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53If they come to me, I'll have to pray with them.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00It's faith, that's what it is.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03And I know a lot of people who have been to him with cancer,

0:20:03 > 0:20:07- and they've survived for a long time. - Have they?- Yeah.

0:20:07 > 0:20:13- Against the odds.- Yeah. - So...that's...that's why you come.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17You're kind of...desperate!

0:20:17 > 0:20:19In a nice sort of way.

0:20:24 > 0:20:29Shauna actually was a normal child up to about 15 to 18 months.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32But then she started this, as you can see, hand-wringing.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35And then we got worried about why she wasn't developing.

0:20:35 > 0:20:41She was sitting, and the doctor told us it was just slow development, a lazy child.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44So, after a while, we realised, when she stopped talking,

0:20:44 > 0:20:49there was a problem. So then we brought her to...

0:20:49 > 0:20:52We got tests and all done to her and we sent them to the UK.

0:20:52 > 0:20:57Then eventually got the diagnosis on April 2008,

0:20:57 > 0:21:00that Shauna was diagnosed with Rett syndrome.

0:21:00 > 0:21:05Which basically means that Shauna, she loses all her mobility.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08Basically, they can't walk, they can't talk.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13And then, thank God she's not doing it now, but she could cry for hours.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15Big sobs for hours.

0:21:15 > 0:21:20There'd be a lot of dark nights, you know. There'd be very little light at the end of the tunnel.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23But who do you turn to?

0:21:23 > 0:21:27You have to have some hope. I know hope is dangerous, but you have to have hope.

0:21:27 > 0:21:31Because the diagnosis we were given with Shauna, there was no hope, basically.

0:21:31 > 0:21:35God's going to call you at any time or any day.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38And he's the boss. And you'll not say, "Hold on, I can't go."

0:21:38 > 0:21:40You'll just have to go when he says.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43Whenever he wants you, he'll take you, and you have to be ready.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47That right, Shauna? You have to be ready for him.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50- Yeah!- Yes.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54Some situations are so sad. Like, you feel so useless.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57You'd wonder, why should this child suffer?

0:21:57 > 0:22:01And what has the child done wrong? But we'll never get those answers.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05You know, we have to look beyond meaning sometimes, to get meaning.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09And, eh, it's...

0:22:09 > 0:22:13It's a hard question. But nobody really knows what's going on.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33Suffering with sickness and injury is nothing new here.

0:22:36 > 0:22:42# Oh, Lord, I'm in your care

0:22:42 > 0:22:47# Oh, Lord, I'm in your care

0:22:47 > 0:22:50# Your loving arms around me

0:22:50 > 0:22:53# Evil cannot harm me

0:22:53 > 0:22:55# Lord, I'm in your care. #

0:22:58 > 0:23:01This is where the wheel was, to drive the mill.

0:23:01 > 0:23:03It was dangerous work.

0:23:03 > 0:23:08There was one day a young fella got his hand caught in the mill.

0:23:08 > 0:23:12And he died the next day.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15It took part of the body.

0:23:15 > 0:23:21# ..All day long I'm in your care

0:23:21 > 0:23:27# All day long I'm in your care

0:23:27 > 0:23:29# Your loving arms around me

0:23:29 > 0:23:32# Evil cannot harm me

0:23:32 > 0:23:35# Lord, I'm in your care. #

0:23:38 > 0:23:43Little Bridget Flynn was about ten years old,

0:23:43 > 0:23:48and she was burned to death in the parochial house in Dungooley.

0:23:49 > 0:23:56And her sister got her face burned, but lived to be an old woman.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00# ..When I was sick I was in your care

0:24:00 > 0:24:05# When I was sick I was in your care

0:24:05 > 0:24:08# Your loving arms around me

0:24:08 > 0:24:11# Evil cannot harm me

0:24:11 > 0:24:13# Lord, I'm in your care. #

0:24:16 > 0:24:21There were two young men going to a dance in Mullaghbane on Easter Sunday night.

0:24:21 > 0:24:26And as they were coming round this corner here,

0:24:26 > 0:24:31the car tumbled upside down and went on fire.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34There was nothing left, only a few bones.

0:24:34 > 0:24:39# ..My room was dark I was in your care

0:24:39 > 0:24:44# My room was dark I was in your care

0:24:44 > 0:24:47# Your loving arms around me

0:24:47 > 0:24:49# Evil cannot harm me

0:24:49 > 0:24:52# Lord, I'm in your care. #

0:24:58 > 0:25:02With so much suffering in this land, people are always looking for cures.

0:25:02 > 0:25:09And the most popular healing priest around here is Padre Pio, the man from Italy.

0:25:10 > 0:25:13Thousands of people flock to pray at his shrines.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18Padre Pio suffered a lot himself.

0:25:22 > 0:25:29He had nail holes in his hands and in his feet, and a cut on his side,

0:25:29 > 0:25:31the same as what Jesus had.

0:25:35 > 0:25:40And he used to have to wear gloves to stop the bleeding.

0:25:43 > 0:25:47And people come from all over to kiss this glove.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58And an awful lot of them gets healed.

0:26:03 > 0:26:07Now, when he's dead, he's regarded as a saint.

0:26:07 > 0:26:12And while he is dead, he can still cure people of all these illnesses.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17There's never a guarantee that you can get a miracle.

0:26:17 > 0:26:21But you have to put your mind and heart all into it.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26When my father was dying way back years ago,

0:26:26 > 0:26:30we went and got that glove. And my father died.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34And we do not pray to him.

0:26:34 > 0:26:38There's only one heals, is Jesus, God.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42I mean, if you look around the house, you'll see no mumbo jumbo stuff around this house.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45You know what I mean? Before, it used to be packed with stuff.

0:26:45 > 0:26:49You know, lumps of concrete and plastic and different things around the house.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54- What, like idols? - Yeah, idols, in other words, what the Bible calls them. Idols.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57There's one idol to me now, is Jesus, God.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01That's my idol, he's my idol. Cos I cannot live without him.

0:27:03 > 0:27:07John Purcell, a character from the Newry area,

0:27:07 > 0:27:09was a Catholic at one time.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13He believes that relics and cures are the work of the devil.

0:27:15 > 0:27:21John became an evangelist preacher with an awful lot of people following him.

0:27:22 > 0:27:26We're all sinners. When God created Adam and Eve, he said,

0:27:26 > 0:27:28"You see the tree in the middle of the garden?

0:27:28 > 0:27:32"The tree of good and evil, the tree of life and death?

0:27:32 > 0:27:35"Do not touch it, cos if you do, you will die."

0:27:35 > 0:27:38And she reached out and took the fruit.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40And her and Adam ate the fruit.

0:27:40 > 0:27:45And then God got them, and put them out, and go out and multiply.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49And of course, from the sin in the Garden of Eden,

0:27:49 > 0:27:53at the very beginning, moves out and then God can look on it,

0:27:53 > 0:27:56the Holy Spirit can even live in our bodies now!

0:27:56 > 0:27:59God cannot use a dirty vessel.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02We need to live and breathe the word of God,

0:28:02 > 0:28:05cos there's people out there hurting. They don't know who to run to,

0:28:05 > 0:28:10they don't know where to go. And there's people doing a lot of damage to their own selves

0:28:10 > 0:28:14cos they've no future ahead of them. And we only have Jesus.

0:28:14 > 0:28:17Jesus is our future! In other words, there is a miracle underneath

0:28:17 > 0:28:20that doubt that you put there! Take it away!

0:28:20 > 0:28:23There's a miracle coming this day!

0:28:28 > 0:28:34The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.

0:28:34 > 0:28:37They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death,

0:28:37 > 0:28:41upon them hath the light.

0:28:41 > 0:28:47Also, I heard the voice of the Lord say, "Whom shall I send?"

0:28:47 > 0:28:51"Then," said I, "Here am I. Send me."

0:28:58 > 0:29:02HE SPEAKS IN TONGUES

0:29:06 > 0:29:08Thank the Lord.

0:29:08 > 0:29:13When you get filled with the Holy Spirit, then the Holy Spirit gives you the gift of tongues.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16God wants you to pray directly to him. You know what I mean?

0:29:16 > 0:29:19Where nobody else can understand it. Only him can understand that.

0:29:19 > 0:29:23I can't even understand it meself sometimes.

0:29:23 > 0:29:27Different times, different languages comes out. And you don't know. You know what I mean?

0:29:27 > 0:29:31They just come. But you know it's from him, it's directly from God.

0:29:32 > 0:29:36You know, when I'm up here then, I know with all of my heart,

0:29:36 > 0:29:38I can talk to God. You know what I mean?

0:29:38 > 0:29:41Cos I know he's there, everywhere.

0:29:41 > 0:29:43The Lord God commanded the man, saying,

0:29:43 > 0:29:46"Of every tree of the garden, thou may'st freely eat.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,

0:29:49 > 0:29:51"thou shall not eat of it.

0:29:51 > 0:29:56"For in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die."

0:29:56 > 0:30:01I learned the scriptures through audio tapes, cos I can't read and write.

0:30:01 > 0:30:05So I've to memorise word after word, meaning after meaning.

0:30:05 > 0:30:08Cos when you're standing behind a pulpit,

0:30:08 > 0:30:10you're in control of their mind, in other words.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13And so many people take on things that you say.

0:30:13 > 0:30:16We have to go strictly by the word of God. Nothing added or taken from it.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Cos people's lives is involved here.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden

0:30:23 > 0:30:29to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man.

0:30:29 > 0:30:33And he placed at the east of the Garden of Eden cherubims,

0:30:33 > 0:30:37and a flaming sword which turned every way

0:30:37 > 0:30:40to keep the way of the tree of life.

0:30:47 > 0:30:50There's not many people afraid of God these days.

0:30:50 > 0:30:52They stopped going to church

0:30:52 > 0:30:57and they spend a lot of their time watching television instead.

0:30:57 > 0:30:59But around here and other parts of the country,

0:30:59 > 0:31:02there's a big problem with that.

0:31:02 > 0:31:05Sometimes the signal won't be working

0:31:05 > 0:31:08and there's no television to be seen.

0:31:08 > 0:31:14We have no signal here know since 24th October.

0:31:14 > 0:31:19And a BBC man come out to check on the television.

0:31:19 > 0:31:23He walked up and down the road and could get no signal.

0:31:23 > 0:31:27So he said he'd come back on 6th December

0:31:27 > 0:31:31and have a satellite dish with him.

0:31:31 > 0:31:38And that we should be fit to get nearly all the stations then, and HD.

0:31:40 > 0:31:43Aye, in these days there's an awful lot of modern things

0:31:43 > 0:31:46and they're breaking down pretty often.

0:31:46 > 0:31:48It's a lot of old nonsense.

0:31:50 > 0:31:55We've a few interesting videos till we get the television working.

0:31:55 > 0:31:59I'll show you the sort of ones we were looking at now.

0:32:01 > 0:32:05This one's Sheepdog. "There's no good flock without a good shepherd,

0:32:05 > 0:32:08"and no good shepherd without a good dog.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12"For the first time, this unique video tells the story

0:32:12 > 0:32:15"of the world's wisest dog, the Border collie.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20"There's a sheepdog trial at a local agricultural show.

0:32:21 > 0:32:24"The blacksmith, butter-making,

0:32:24 > 0:32:27"spinning" - that's on a spinning wheel, like -

0:32:27 > 0:32:30"and the cobbler, the thatcher,

0:32:30 > 0:32:35"making pancakes and making griddled scones."

0:32:37 > 0:32:40Everything had to be done the hard way.

0:32:46 > 0:32:49The Ulster Farming Year.

0:32:49 > 0:32:54"This video is probably different from any other farming video

0:32:54 > 0:32:57"that you have previously purchased or viewed."

0:32:57 > 0:33:00'Robert Bradley lays it on thick on his land...'

0:33:10 > 0:33:12# Over the moor land

0:33:12 > 0:33:15# And over the lea

0:33:15 > 0:33:19# Across the Atlantic Oh, what do I see?

0:33:19 > 0:33:22# The high hills of Antrim

0:33:22 > 0:33:24# The coastline of Clare

0:33:24 > 0:33:29# The green fields of Ireland will welcome me there

0:33:29 > 0:33:34# We are an island way out on the sea... #

0:33:34 > 0:33:38It's almost impossible to make a living from farming these days.

0:33:41 > 0:33:45There's a lot of young people leaving the country now because there's no work

0:33:45 > 0:33:49and they get a better life when they're away somewhere else.

0:33:49 > 0:33:57# Her lofty scene, her valleys green

0:33:57 > 0:34:03# Her mountains rude and wild

0:34:04 > 0:34:12# They say she is a lovely land

0:34:12 > 0:34:19# Wherein a prince might dwell

0:34:19 > 0:34:27# Oh, why did you abandon it?

0:34:27 > 0:34:33# The reason do me tell. #

0:34:39 > 0:34:44I worked on this farm from I was 14 years of age.

0:34:45 > 0:34:48It's not fitting right.

0:34:50 > 0:34:55This was an old stable for horses. There was horses here before I come.

0:34:55 > 0:35:00And then there was cattle and pigs and sheep.

0:35:00 > 0:35:04But I sold them all there a couple of years ago.

0:35:06 > 0:35:11You see, everything's too dear now.

0:35:11 > 0:35:13You put more into cattle than what you'd get out of them.

0:35:15 > 0:35:18Only for the subsidies, there'd be nothing at all.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28There's a few farmers hanging onto the land.

0:35:28 > 0:35:31One of them is Patsy Mell in Ballygawley.

0:35:33 > 0:35:37He still counts on the old cures to protect his cattle.

0:35:38 > 0:35:42He seems to think that hanging Hurley branches in the cattle shed

0:35:42 > 0:35:44stops sickness getting to the herd.

0:35:55 > 0:36:00It's a good idea to believe in the cures and everything like that,

0:36:00 > 0:36:03because the old ways was always the cheapest way.

0:36:03 > 0:36:06It can be the last hope in some cases.

0:36:15 > 0:36:19Once you'd lost your job, you know the way you'd feel.

0:36:20 > 0:36:25A man like me would manage, living on my own.

0:36:25 > 0:36:29But what about a man that is rearing a family or something like that?

0:36:32 > 0:36:37At the present time now, at my age, you'd be afraid to give it up,

0:36:37 > 0:36:39because you're attached to the cows.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42Every morning you get up, the first thing you do,

0:36:42 > 0:36:46you get your cup of tea and you go to them cows.

0:36:46 > 0:36:49That's your livelihood. And you know nothing else.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52If you give that up, you'd be sort of lost.

0:36:56 > 0:36:59I would say it was the worst year nearly in living memory.

0:37:07 > 0:37:14# Oh, Lord, help me to walk another mile, just one more mile

0:37:16 > 0:37:21# I'm tired of walking all alone

0:37:23 > 0:37:30# And Lord, help me to smile another smile, just one more smile

0:37:31 > 0:37:35# Don't think I can do things on my own

0:37:38 > 0:37:44# I never thought I needed help before

0:37:46 > 0:37:51# Thought that I could get by by myself

0:37:54 > 0:37:59# But now I know I just can't take it any more

0:38:00 > 0:38:03# And with a humble heart on bended knee

0:38:03 > 0:38:08# I'm begging you, please for help. #

0:38:31 > 0:38:32Save them, Lord.

0:38:32 > 0:38:35And turn them around, Lord, take all the hurt away from them

0:38:35 > 0:38:37and help them and bless them, oh God.

0:38:37 > 0:38:41In Jesus' name, I ask you to grant those prayers. Amen. Thank God.

0:38:43 > 0:38:45There's a lot of people hurting out there.

0:38:45 > 0:38:48There's people hurting in pain and sickness in some of them houses.

0:38:48 > 0:38:51Maybe people lying in beds, can't get out of bed, even.

0:38:51 > 0:38:55Know what I mean? And that's right through the whole country here.

0:38:55 > 0:38:57Right through the whole world. You know what I mean?

0:38:57 > 0:39:00If humans could help humans, know what I mean?

0:39:00 > 0:39:05And there's people out there can do it, but they won't do it.

0:39:05 > 0:39:09And there's people out there have billions. They think they want more.

0:39:09 > 0:39:11And yet, when we're taken from this Earth,

0:39:11 > 0:39:13we can't bring nothing with us.

0:39:13 > 0:39:15Know what I mean?

0:39:15 > 0:39:18We can pray for them. But we need bucketfuls of prayer.

0:39:18 > 0:39:20Prayer is a mighty weapon against the devil.

0:39:20 > 0:39:22A woman asked me one day,

0:39:22 > 0:39:26"John, how much do I owe you for praying for me?" I said, "Excuse me,

0:39:26 > 0:39:29"if I charge you for praying for you, I'd be working for me.

0:39:29 > 0:39:33"I'm not working for me. I'm working for Jesus." I'm in God's army.

0:39:33 > 0:39:36God has chosen me to be a warrior, a soldier, a vessel.

0:39:36 > 0:39:39So I'm out in the fields there, and I'm winning souls for Christ.

0:39:39 > 0:39:42I'm showing God's love and the devil do not like it.

0:39:42 > 0:39:44There's not a day goes by that the devil's out after me

0:39:44 > 0:39:47and my wife and my children, trying to trip us up in some way.

0:39:47 > 0:39:50A lot of poor people are led astray, led to the wrong god.

0:39:50 > 0:39:51The Tom, Dick and Harry type of thing.

0:39:51 > 0:39:53There's only one god, though, God Almighty.

0:39:55 > 0:39:58'Be strong. Fear not.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01'Behold, your God will come with vengeance,

0:40:01 > 0:40:07'even God with a recompense. He will come and save you.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10'Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13'And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16'Then shall the lame man leap as unharmed

0:40:16 > 0:40:20'and the tongue of the dumb sing.

0:40:22 > 0:40:26'And the ransomed of the Lord shall return

0:40:26 > 0:40:32'and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads.

0:40:32 > 0:40:36'They shall obtain joy and gladness.

0:40:36 > 0:40:43'And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.'

0:40:46 > 0:40:48Dear Lord God, Almighty Father, I thank you

0:40:48 > 0:40:51from the depths of my heart for your presence here, Lord.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54And Lord, you know everyone that came through the door tonight,

0:40:54 > 0:40:56Lord, Heavenly Father.

0:40:56 > 0:40:58I'm asking you from the depths of my heart for you to intervene,

0:40:58 > 0:41:00Lord, and take complete control.

0:41:00 > 0:41:04I do ask you for souls to be saved in this meeting tonight.

0:41:04 > 0:41:08I do ask you for healing and miracles to be done here this night, Lord.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Praise the Lord!

0:41:11 > 0:41:14In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I ask you to

0:41:14 > 0:41:17grant this prayer. A shield of protection for them.

0:41:17 > 0:41:20And Lord, bless them, bless them, bless them.

0:41:20 > 0:41:24In Jesus' name in health and strength and well, and peace in home, Lord.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27And family, Lord, and finance, Lord. In Jesus' name.

0:41:27 > 0:41:29A shield of protection for the business.

0:41:29 > 0:41:31In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,

0:41:31 > 0:41:34I ask you to grant this prayer. Amen.

0:41:34 > 0:41:36You're a young man, your whole life is ahead of you.

0:41:36 > 0:41:38And you have to get on with your life.

0:41:38 > 0:41:40And your mother and your sister do not want you hurting.

0:41:40 > 0:41:43You know what I mean? Cos they have no hurt now where they are.

0:41:43 > 0:41:47So you need to get on with your life. Did you get saved tonight, there?

0:41:47 > 0:41:49- Did you put your hand up?- No.

0:41:49 > 0:41:51Would you not like to give your heart to the Lord?

0:41:51 > 0:41:55- And you said a little prayer with me? - I said a prayer, aye.- To Jesus.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57Yeah.

0:41:57 > 0:42:00In Jesus' name, Holy Spirit, I ask you God, Almighty Father,

0:42:00 > 0:42:03to bless him and bless him and bless him.

0:42:03 > 0:42:05And take all fear and doubt away from him, Lord,

0:42:05 > 0:42:08and give him peace about his situation, Lord.

0:42:08 > 0:42:11Lord, give him peace and let him know, Lord, Heavenly Father,

0:42:11 > 0:42:15that his name is written in the Lamb's book of life in heaven. Amen.

0:42:15 > 0:42:16- Thank you.- God bless you.

0:42:24 > 0:42:27HE SPEAKS IN TONGUES

0:42:27 > 0:42:31DOGS HOWL

0:42:38 > 0:42:41God chose me, I didn't choose God.

0:42:41 > 0:42:44See, I had no intention whatsoever to bring the word of God into this home.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47You know, I remember years ago, I was just walking through the door

0:42:47 > 0:42:49and my daughter, Eileen, called me.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52She said, "Daddy, your brother Hugh is on the phone." And the first

0:42:52 > 0:42:54thing he said to me, "I'm a born-again Christian," he said.

0:42:54 > 0:42:58Says I, "What?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

0:42:58 > 0:43:02I said, "Are you all right?" And then I realised he was gone mad.

0:43:02 > 0:43:05He kept telling me to get a Bible and I thought, "A Bible?"

0:43:05 > 0:43:08And then he said, "I'm telling you, get a Bible.

0:43:08 > 0:43:11"Your soul is in danger of going to hell."

0:43:11 > 0:43:14And my telephone began to look like a Rottweiler to me.

0:43:14 > 0:43:16The very minute the phone used to ring,

0:43:16 > 0:43:19I used to tremble and jump because I knew it was going to be him.

0:43:19 > 0:43:22He'd be hours on the phone, telling me about Jesus. And get a Bible.

0:43:22 > 0:43:25And then I started thinking about a hospital that I know of, that you can

0:43:25 > 0:43:29put jump leads in your brains and, you know, bring you back to your senses.

0:43:29 > 0:43:31So I thought we were going to have to get a lend of a straitjacket

0:43:31 > 0:43:35off of them and take it over to England and take my brother back.

0:43:35 > 0:43:38I was convinced he had blown a fuse.

0:43:38 > 0:43:41But anyway, we love our family, a very close-knit family.

0:43:41 > 0:43:44There was 18 children, 13 boys and five girls.

0:43:44 > 0:43:47But I had a young brother killed, away back in the '70s.

0:43:47 > 0:43:50He was murdered in Belfast during the Troubles.

0:43:52 > 0:43:54You know... I'm sorry.

0:43:57 > 0:44:02I used to look after him and mind him, you know, as a child.

0:44:04 > 0:44:06And then, you know, all my life, you know,

0:44:06 > 0:44:09I looked after one of my brothers. Excuse me for what I'm doing here.

0:44:11 > 0:44:16And then, when he got killed, then the hurt, you know,

0:44:16 > 0:44:19it entered into me. For the first time in my life,

0:44:19 > 0:44:24I realised that it can happen to anybody.

0:44:24 > 0:44:25And then...

0:44:27 > 0:44:30Then my father took ill. He took cancer.

0:44:32 > 0:44:33Then he died with cancer.

0:44:35 > 0:44:38I couldn't help him, I didn't know what to do. Cos I wasn't saved.

0:44:38 > 0:44:40I didn't know nothing about Jesus.

0:44:42 > 0:44:46I started drinking more heavier then. To try and kill this pain.

0:44:48 > 0:44:53When it come dark at night, then, when you're alone, it was all hurt.

0:44:53 > 0:44:56My mother used to say to me, "That demon drink, son, is going

0:44:56 > 0:44:59"to kill you." And I didn't know how to get off it.

0:45:02 > 0:45:06My brother rung me from England, after months went by.

0:45:06 > 0:45:09My brother rung me and said, "We're coming back to Ireland to preach."

0:45:09 > 0:45:11And then I went over there the next night and I went in.

0:45:11 > 0:45:14I wanted to find a loophole. Where's the money? There's got to be money.

0:45:14 > 0:45:16Cos money was my god.

0:45:16 > 0:45:19# Your faith was strong but you needed proof

0:45:19 > 0:45:24# You saw her bathing on the roof

0:45:24 > 0:45:30# Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you... #

0:45:32 > 0:45:34I listened to the word that the pastor was preaching

0:45:34 > 0:45:37and he said to me, "God sent his one and only begotten son down

0:45:37 > 0:45:40"to this Earth to die for you." And I thought he was giving cheek.

0:45:40 > 0:45:43I said, "What do you mean?" He said, "If you were the only man on this Earth,

0:45:43 > 0:45:46"God would have still sent his son down to die for you.

0:45:46 > 0:45:48"And you know," he said, "when you die and your soul goes to God to be

0:45:48 > 0:45:52"judged, God is going to say to you, 'What did you do for my son, Jesus?'

0:45:52 > 0:45:55"And what are you going to say? What did you do for my son, Jesus?"

0:45:55 > 0:45:57And I started crying like a child, sobbing.

0:45:57 > 0:46:01And all I could do is put a big X on the page, the last page.

0:46:01 > 0:46:03What did I do for him? I did nothing for him.

0:46:03 > 0:46:05And the tears started coming down on my face.

0:46:05 > 0:46:08And my eyes were getting that much full with tears.

0:46:08 > 0:46:11And then I realised I didn't want to go to hell.

0:46:11 > 0:46:14I surrendered my whole life over to God with both hands,

0:46:14 > 0:46:16and from that day forward, my life changed.

0:46:16 > 0:46:19I mean that with all my heart. It's absolutely beautiful to be saved.

0:46:19 > 0:46:22# Hallelujah

0:46:22 > 0:46:25# Hallelujah

0:46:27 > 0:46:29# Hallelujah

0:46:31 > 0:46:35# Hallelujah

0:46:36 > 0:46:39# Hallelujah

0:46:39 > 0:46:42# Hallelujah

0:46:44 > 0:46:46# Hallelujah

0:46:48 > 0:46:50# Hallelujah

0:46:50 > 0:46:52CAR HORN BEEPS

0:46:52 > 0:46:58- Pete, the television man's here. - Oh. He'll be in in a minute or two.

0:46:58 > 0:46:59HAMMERING

0:47:01 > 0:47:05- It's going to break.- What is? - The window, because it's open.

0:47:05 > 0:47:07Oh, I didn't know.

0:47:08 > 0:47:12No, leave it. You'll have to go out and push it.

0:47:12 > 0:47:16And watch the way you push it, or you'll break it.

0:47:16 > 0:47:18The old windows are rotten.

0:47:27 > 0:47:29DRILLING

0:47:29 > 0:47:30Drills and everything.

0:47:36 > 0:47:41- Will he take a cup of tea?- He will. But he wants to finish what he's at.

0:48:23 > 0:48:26Here, do you want a drop of tea before you go?

0:48:26 > 0:48:29Ah, no, I have to keep going. I've a load more to do yet.

0:48:29 > 0:48:33- I'd be drinking tea all day! Good luck.- Right. Good luck.

0:48:37 > 0:48:40Preview. What is that?

0:48:44 > 0:48:48Now the Lord had said unto Abraham, "Get thee out of their country

0:48:48 > 0:48:50"and from their kindred and from their father's house,

0:48:50 > 0:48:52"unto a land that I will show thee.

0:48:52 > 0:48:56"And I will make of thee a great nation and I will bless thee

0:48:56 > 0:49:00"and make thy name great. And thou shalt be a blessing.

0:49:00 > 0:49:01"And I will bless them that bless thee,

0:49:01 > 0:49:04"and curse him that curseth thee.

0:49:04 > 0:49:08"And in thee shall all families of the Earth be blessed."

0:49:21 > 0:49:25John's coming down the mountain here to talk to God quite a bit recently.

0:49:27 > 0:49:31There must be something brewing that we know nothing about.

0:49:31 > 0:49:32God spoke to me.

0:49:32 > 0:49:36And I know with all of my heart that God has led me to go to Belfast.

0:49:36 > 0:49:39And I want God to be seen in every part of it.

0:49:39 > 0:49:41I want him to be glorified

0:49:41 > 0:49:44and lifted on high through every part of this mission.

0:49:44 > 0:49:47I do not want to be seen in it, I want God to be seen in it.

0:49:47 > 0:49:51I want God to be seen in me, that the Holy Spirit can be seen through me.

0:49:55 > 0:49:59The Lord led in my heart to go and help Belfast by giving the truth.

0:49:59 > 0:50:02By preaching the truth from God's word.

0:50:02 > 0:50:04And I know for a fact a lot of people's going to be healed

0:50:04 > 0:50:06and touched.

0:50:10 > 0:50:13When I heard about John Purcell first of all, I thought to myself,

0:50:13 > 0:50:16"He's an ex-tinker." You know, a gypsy.

0:50:16 > 0:50:20But he'd had this God experience.

0:50:20 > 0:50:24And he brings this message of hope.

0:50:24 > 0:50:26Whatever people think of religion, you know,

0:50:26 > 0:50:30I feel that Belfast needs some kind of miracle ministry,

0:50:30 > 0:50:34where there's a real work of God in healing.

0:50:34 > 0:50:39Remember, we came out of 35 years of civil war. And it does affect you.

0:50:39 > 0:50:43I do not want to go back to the type of man I was.

0:50:43 > 0:50:45That man is frightening.

0:50:46 > 0:50:51I was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

0:50:52 > 0:50:54You know, I kept hitting new lows.

0:50:54 > 0:50:56The bottom kept dropping out of the bottom.

0:50:56 > 0:51:01I knew that sooner or later, I was going to do serious damage.

0:51:01 > 0:51:04I was going to kill somebody. I was out of control.

0:51:04 > 0:51:07So I went to church to stop falling over the edge,

0:51:07 > 0:51:10although I still lived with these demons.

0:51:17 > 0:51:19I know you led me to come here, Lord.

0:51:19 > 0:51:22Lord, in Jesus' name, Holy Spirit, I ask you, God, Almighty Father,

0:51:22 > 0:51:24to grant these prayers.

0:51:24 > 0:51:26HE SPEAKS IN TONGUES

0:51:30 > 0:51:36'Vanity of vanities, said the preacher. All is vanity.

0:51:36 > 0:51:39'And moreover, because the preacher was wise,

0:51:39 > 0:51:43'he still taught the people knowledge.

0:51:43 > 0:51:48'Yea, he gave good heed and sought out and set in order many proverbs.

0:51:49 > 0:51:54'The preacher sought to find out acceptable words.

0:51:54 > 0:51:58'And that which was written was upright. Even words of truth.'

0:52:00 > 0:52:04For he that believes in me, as the Scripture has said,

0:52:04 > 0:52:10out of his belly, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.

0:52:12 > 0:52:18If anybody thirsts, let him come to me and I will set you free!

0:52:18 > 0:52:23Maybe you think you're no good, you're worthless, nobody loves you.

0:52:23 > 0:52:26You just tried it and tried it and you can't get over it.

0:52:26 > 0:52:28It's like a big brick wall in front of you.

0:52:28 > 0:52:32But I know with all of my heart, if you surrender your whole life

0:52:32 > 0:52:36to Christ this night, that he can set you free!

0:52:36 > 0:52:41He can wash and cleanse your filter. He can make it whiter than snow.

0:52:41 > 0:52:45He can set you free. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord.

0:52:45 > 0:52:47Isn't it beautiful to know him?

0:52:48 > 0:52:51One prayer away, that's how far you are from Christ.

0:52:51 > 0:52:54Isn't that beautiful to know that?

0:52:54 > 0:52:56You know, there's a lot of people talking it,

0:52:56 > 0:52:57but they're not walking it.

0:52:57 > 0:53:01# You can run on for a long time

0:53:01 > 0:53:04# Run on for a long time

0:53:04 > 0:53:07# Run on for a long time

0:53:07 > 0:53:10# Sooner or later, gotta put you down

0:53:10 > 0:53:15# Sooner or later, gotta cut you down

0:53:15 > 0:53:18# Go tell that long-tongued liar

0:53:18 > 0:53:21# Go and tell that midnight rider

0:53:21 > 0:53:24# Tell the rambler The gambler, the back-biter

0:53:24 > 0:53:27# Tell them that God's gonna cut 'em down

0:53:27 > 0:53:30# Tell them that God's gonna cut 'em down!

0:53:35 > 0:53:37# Well, my goodness gracious Let me tell you the news

0:53:37 > 0:53:41# My head's been wet with the midnight dew

0:53:41 > 0:53:44# I've been down on bended knee

0:53:44 > 0:53:46# Talking to the man from Galilee

0:53:46 > 0:53:49# He spoke to me in a voice so sweet

0:53:49 > 0:53:52# I thought I heard the shuffle of angels' feet

0:53:52 > 0:53:55# He called my name and my heart stood still

0:53:55 > 0:53:58# When he said John, go do my will!

0:53:59 > 0:54:01# Go tell that long-tongued liar

0:54:01 > 0:54:03# Go and tell that midnight rider

0:54:03 > 0:54:06# Tell the rambler The gambler, the back-biter

0:54:06 > 0:54:10# Tell that that God's gonna cut 'em down

0:54:10 > 0:54:13# Tell that that God's gonna cut 'em down! #

0:54:16 > 0:54:20Isn't it beautiful to be shook up with the presence of the Holy Spirit?

0:54:20 > 0:54:24It's like electric going through you. It's absolutely beautiful.

0:54:24 > 0:54:29To know him, that he's living in my heart. The Holy Spirit is here.

0:54:29 > 0:54:32And living in your heart, those of us that's saved.

0:54:32 > 0:54:35And I thank God that I know the real smile. Mwah!
