0:00:02 > 0:00:05Obesity in Britain has reached crisis level but, for many couples,
0:00:05 > 0:00:08there's one thing that stops them from beating it - each other.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11You don't feel so bad, I think, if you've got a partner in crime.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14Stuck in a rut of poor diets and overeating,
0:00:14 > 0:00:17it's threatening not only their health but their relationships.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20You try to sabotage, every time I try to lose weight.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22It's causing us to have the relationship break-up,
0:00:22 > 0:00:25- which is what we don't want.- Yeah. - I'm Professor Tanya Byron.
0:00:25 > 0:00:30I'm a clinical psychologist. I want to try something radical and new.
0:00:30 > 0:00:34- My God!- Four overweight couples have agreed to live apart...
0:00:34 > 0:00:36We're going to do this, aren't we?
0:00:36 > 0:00:39- I love you.- ..because I'm going to separate them.
0:00:39 > 0:00:43Couples stuck in an unhealthy rut can be each other's worst enemies,
0:00:43 > 0:00:46so the theory is, dramatic change happens first
0:00:46 > 0:00:47when we separate the couple.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50I'm glad that he's a bit scared. I am.
0:00:51 > 0:00:54Each week, I'll work with one couple to try to get to
0:00:54 > 0:00:57the root of what's behind their overeating.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59Only when they are away from each other
0:00:59 > 0:01:01can they start to tackle their demons.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03This is my worst nightmare, this.
0:01:03 > 0:01:04And through a health and fitness plan,
0:01:04 > 0:01:07we'll try to change them for good...
0:01:07 > 0:01:10- Let's go.- I've got big feet. This is a disadvantage!
0:01:12 > 0:01:15- ..and break their bad habits. - Broccoli!
0:01:15 > 0:01:19Will living apart from each other for ten weeks finally succeed
0:01:19 > 0:01:20when everything else has failed?
0:01:20 > 0:01:23I've wanted to give up at least seven times a day, every day.
0:01:23 > 0:01:27If it doesn't work and he's not changed,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29then me and Pete aren't going to work.
0:01:36 > 0:01:39Is that the massive wheelbarrow that couldn't be carried -
0:01:39 > 0:01:40- the massive one?- Yeah.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43IT worker Phil and laundrette assistant Becky
0:01:43 > 0:01:47live on the estate Becky grew up on in Warrington, Cheshire.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51- What's for tea, Becks?- Takeaway. - Takeaway, yeah!
0:01:51 > 0:01:54They met four years ago and it was obvious they were kindred spirits.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57She said, "Do you want a pack of crisps?" And I was like,
0:01:57 > 0:02:00"Yeah, go on, then." And that was it, really, wasn't it?
0:02:00 > 0:02:02- It was just love at first bite! - Yeah.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Each has a daughter from earlier relationships -
0:02:04 > 0:02:09Phil's ten-year-old, Jamie Lee, and Becky's daughter, Katie Lee.
0:02:09 > 0:02:13And just five months ago, Phil and Becky had baby Trudie together.
0:02:13 > 0:02:14There you go.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16It was awful when was pregnant cos she put nothing on
0:02:16 > 0:02:18and I put three stone on.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21Their cycle of overeating has caused Phil
0:02:21 > 0:02:22and Becky to pile on the weight.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25Food-wise, we are bad for each other because you're always
0:02:25 > 0:02:28the one who suggests the bad food while I just go, "Yeah."
0:02:28 > 0:02:32And Becky's sister, Danika, has seen the effect first-hand.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34She's always been bigger than average,
0:02:34 > 0:02:38and then she did meet Phil, he was big, so that didn't help.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40I think it just gradually got worse and worse
0:02:40 > 0:02:42and she's never getting any smaller.
0:02:42 > 0:02:44It's no mystery what their weakness is.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48- Fizzy pop is definitely our biggest downfall.- Stash of pop!
0:02:48 > 0:02:53- Look at that!- Most nights, me and Phil have one of these each.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57It's more of an addiction. It's like crack cocaine to an addict.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59I can't go a day without it.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02But Phil has lost weight before, pre-Becky.
0:03:02 > 0:03:07Heaviest I've been was sort of 2009/10, which was 30 stone.
0:03:07 > 0:03:09His method was extreme.
0:03:09 > 0:03:13I had a gastric bypass and I lost about 15 stone in just under a year
0:03:13 > 0:03:17and I've just gone back to old habits. Why?
0:03:17 > 0:03:19I wish there was an answer where I could say,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22I do it for this reason, but I just don't know.
0:03:22 > 0:03:23I really don't.
0:03:23 > 0:03:28But since being together, Phil has put on 10 stones in just four years
0:03:28 > 0:03:30and Becky has put on a further three.
0:03:30 > 0:03:34They have tried everything to stop their weight from spiralling
0:03:34 > 0:03:38- out of control. - I've done GI, I've done Atkins.
0:03:38 > 0:03:39You even did the shrink-wrap thing.
0:03:39 > 0:03:41I bought some special cream that you had to put on
0:03:41 > 0:03:44and then wrap yourself in clingfilm.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47And I said, you try that first. If it works for you, I'll have a go.
0:03:47 > 0:03:49- It didn't work.- It didn't work.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52Now Phil and Becky feel like they have run out of options and
0:03:52 > 0:03:57they are willing to try something new - they're going to separate.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59We need to be away from each other to change our habits,
0:03:59 > 0:04:02and then, when we come back together, our habits will be better.
0:04:02 > 0:04:03And then, not go back to the old ways cos
0:04:03 > 0:04:05if we did, I think that would end up causing us
0:04:05 > 0:04:08to have the relationship break-up, which is what we don't want.
0:04:08 > 0:04:10Yeah.
0:04:10 > 0:04:12Today, they are on their way to meet me
0:04:12 > 0:04:16and my team before separating for ten weeks.
0:04:17 > 0:04:19It's a brave decision
0:04:19 > 0:04:24but it could be the only way to fix their health and their relationship.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27Feeling very nervous, to be honest.
0:04:27 > 0:04:29- Very nervous. - I think the next time we meet,
0:04:29 > 0:04:32there's going to be a lot of pain and tears and tantrums, probably.
0:04:32 > 0:04:36- But we're going to fix ourselves. - We hope.- We hope.
0:04:36 > 0:04:39I think this could very well be the moment where life changes.
0:04:39 > 0:04:41That's what I'm finding quite daunting.
0:04:41 > 0:04:45Couples stuck in an unhealthy rut can be each other's worst enemies,
0:04:45 > 0:04:48so the theory is dramatic change happens first
0:04:48 > 0:04:50when we separate the couple,
0:04:50 > 0:04:52and that is what Phil and Becky have agreed to do.
0:04:56 > 0:05:00Helping me crack their deep-seated bad habits is behavioural scientist
0:05:00 > 0:05:04Paul Dolan and physiologist Rick Shakes-Brathwaite,
0:05:04 > 0:05:08who will carry out a full medical so that he can give them diet
0:05:08 > 0:05:10and fitness programmes tailor-made for each of them
0:05:10 > 0:05:13to follow during the separation.
0:05:13 > 0:05:15Deep breaths. You'll be fine.
0:05:18 > 0:05:22- Hi, Phil, Becky, how are you? - You all right?- Good to see you.
0:05:22 > 0:05:26- I'm going to ask if ladies go first? Is that all right?- Good luck.
0:05:29 > 0:05:31So we're going to start off with a body composition machine.
0:05:31 > 0:05:34It doesn't just give me weight - it tells me how much fat tissue
0:05:34 > 0:05:37you have, how much muscle tissue you have, how much water is in the body.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40All of that gives me an idea of, do you have the tools to do what
0:05:40 > 0:05:41I ask you to do?
0:05:41 > 0:05:44By putting them under the microscope, he can see
0:05:44 > 0:05:47the effect their unhealthy lifestyle has had on their bodies.
0:05:47 > 0:05:50- What exercise do you do?- I do play football, believe it or not.
0:05:50 > 0:05:52Just pull your T-shirt up so I can get to your chest.
0:05:52 > 0:05:56And flag up any warning signs for diseases such as diabetes
0:05:56 > 0:05:59and high blood pressure, commonly associated with obesity.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02I need to look at the mechanics of the heart on ultrasound
0:06:02 > 0:06:05because I need to make sure that your heart is healthy
0:06:05 > 0:06:07before we give you any exercise programmes.
0:06:07 > 0:06:10One of the most important tests is to put
0:06:10 > 0:06:14you on the treadmill to see how your blood pressure responds to exercise.
0:06:14 > 0:06:17- You seem to be short of breath. Is this common?- This is normal, yes.
0:06:17 > 0:06:21So you're short of breath, not even exercising?
0:06:21 > 0:06:24Shortness of breath could be a symptom of high blood pressure
0:06:24 > 0:06:28as the heart works harder to pump blood around the body.
0:06:28 > 0:06:32This, combined with Phil's excess weight, could be fatal.
0:06:32 > 0:06:35- I'm just going to have to stop the testing, OK?- OK.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38I'll tell you more about these results in a while, OK?
0:06:38 > 0:06:41More than 60% of people put on weight
0:06:41 > 0:06:43when they're in a comfortable relationship.
0:06:43 > 0:06:45Phil and Becky are an example of this.
0:06:45 > 0:06:49Ten weeks apart should give them a chance to lose weight and, without
0:06:49 > 0:06:53the influence of the other, help me tackle their bad habits around food.
0:06:54 > 0:06:59So, my first question to you is, why have you agreed to do this with us?
0:06:59 > 0:07:02We do try every single fad diet going.
0:07:02 > 0:07:05If you name the fad diet, we've probably tried it, every Monday.
0:07:05 > 0:07:08Every Monday. We start a diet every single Monday.
0:07:08 > 0:07:11By Tuesday, dinner, I'm usually crying.
0:07:11 > 0:07:15He's normally, "I've had enough," and we start eating rubbish again.
0:07:15 > 0:07:18You've got three children between you. That's right?
0:07:18 > 0:07:21So, how worried are you for them,
0:07:21 > 0:07:24given your concerns about yourselves?
0:07:24 > 0:07:26They're probably the major reason we're doing this, really.
0:07:26 > 0:07:30We want to be around a long time for those, we want to see them grow up.
0:07:30 > 0:07:34That fear that you have of not being here for the children, we want
0:07:34 > 0:07:38to turn that into motivation cos the fear in itself isn't enough.
0:07:38 > 0:07:43Rick obviously needs to talk you through some of the test results.
0:07:43 > 0:07:47- Becky?- Yeah?- I understand you suffer with asthma?- Yeah, yeah.- OK.
0:07:47 > 0:07:50Asthma gets worse as you put on more weight,
0:07:50 > 0:07:53- so the more we lose weight, the better the asthma will get.- Yep.
0:07:53 > 0:07:55You smoke as well and you're eating poorly
0:07:55 > 0:07:56and drinking lots of fizzy pop.
0:07:56 > 0:08:01- Yep.- This is why you're 17 stone at present, OK?- It's dreadful.
0:08:03 > 0:08:08- You need to lose five stone of fat. - It's a lot, isn't it?- OK?- Yeah.
0:08:12 > 0:08:18- Phil, you were worried. So am I. OK?- OK.
0:08:18 > 0:08:23You've had a gastric bypass and you've bypassed a bypass!
0:08:23 > 0:08:28And that's a really difficult place to be. You OK, buddy?
0:08:28 > 0:08:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
0:08:29 > 0:08:32- Is this just cos you know it's going to be bad?- Yeah.
0:08:38 > 0:08:41- Come on.- Your actual weight is 24 stone.
0:08:42 > 0:08:47You need to lose 10 stone of fat, just to be functional
0:08:47 > 0:08:49and be out of the danger zone.
0:08:50 > 0:08:54You're short of breath, just walking around. That's not great.
0:08:54 > 0:08:57What's also not great is your blood pressure.
0:08:57 > 0:09:00Your blood pressure is far too high.
0:09:00 > 0:09:04If it's allowed to stay at high levels all the time, it puts
0:09:04 > 0:09:06a tremendous strain on the heart.
0:09:06 > 0:09:07That's why I stopped your exercise test,
0:09:07 > 0:09:10because your blood pressure was at a very dangerous level.
0:09:10 > 0:09:12You're not in a safe position for me
0:09:12 > 0:09:15to even write an exercise programme for you at this stage.
0:09:15 > 0:09:17This has got to be it.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20If it doesn't go well, I won't be there, we will never see
0:09:20 > 0:09:24those children grow up, so if this doesn't scare me, nothing else well.
0:09:24 > 0:09:27I'm going to do everything in my power to help you change this, OK?
0:09:31 > 0:09:36So, what would success look like? What are you asking us to do?
0:09:36 > 0:09:38Just not being in the place where I am right now,
0:09:38 > 0:09:40knocking on death's door, by the sounds of things.
0:09:40 > 0:09:43We need to be able to say to people, we can actually do this,
0:09:43 > 0:09:45cos everybody knows that we can't do it.
0:09:46 > 0:09:51We believe that you can do this and you will grow old with your kids.
0:09:51 > 0:09:56Use us, make us work as hard for you as you want us to
0:09:56 > 0:09:58and we will see a change.
0:10:00 > 0:10:05It's a lot to take in, isn't it? So you have some time together, OK?
0:10:05 > 0:10:06All right?
0:10:06 > 0:10:10All right. It's all we've got to do.
0:10:10 > 0:10:14- All right. We'll be all right. - OK? Come on, Team Us.
0:10:17 > 0:10:20- You said your goodbyes?- Yep.- Yes. - All right, Phil. Well, time to go.
0:10:20 > 0:10:21See you later.
0:10:26 > 0:10:30It will be ten weeks before Phil and Becky set eyes on each other again.
0:10:36 > 0:10:38- Are you sure this is the right thing?- Yeah.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41- It's just I'm not going to see him now for ten weeks.- Yeah.
0:10:41 > 0:10:44He'd just better do it.
0:10:44 > 0:10:46- Are you worried he won't?- Yeah.
0:10:47 > 0:10:50I said, you've already been given one chance and messed it up.
0:10:50 > 0:10:55Don't mess this one up. I'm glad that he's been scared. I am.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59I don't cry very often.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01One was when Trudie was born and one was
0:11:01 > 0:11:05when Steven Gerrard did that speech at the end of this Man City game!
0:11:05 > 0:11:06We won 3-2.
0:11:09 > 0:11:12Ten weeks feels like forever at the moment.
0:11:12 > 0:11:15Feel like I'm never going to see him again.
0:11:27 > 0:11:31During the separation, Phil will live with family friend Denise...
0:11:31 > 0:11:35- Home sweet home!- ..conveniently in her home gym.- Eurgh!
0:11:35 > 0:11:37Jesus Christ, it weighs a tonne!
0:11:41 > 0:11:43The first day for the rest of my life.
0:11:45 > 0:11:48A long, long life, hopefully!
0:11:50 > 0:11:54Becky's holding the fort at home with Katie Lee and baby Trudie.
0:11:54 > 0:11:57Don't like being on my own. It's not nice.
0:11:57 > 0:12:00To help them focus on themselves, they've agreed,
0:12:00 > 0:12:03for the first three weeks, to have no contact at all.
0:12:03 > 0:12:06It feels like we've split up. It does feel like we've split up.
0:12:06 > 0:12:08And, like, quite a bitter split up as well
0:12:08 > 0:12:09because we're not communicating.
0:12:09 > 0:12:11During the separation,
0:12:11 > 0:12:15Rick has set them a target - to lose an average of two pounds a week.
0:12:15 > 0:12:19Before now, Becky would consume up to 3,000 calories a day -
0:12:19 > 0:12:22around 1,000 more than the recommended daily allowance
0:12:22 > 0:12:23for a woman.
0:12:23 > 0:12:27And so, a dietician has devised a food programme where the key
0:12:27 > 0:12:30- is portion control. - It's actually not that bad.
0:12:30 > 0:12:33I was surprised with some of the stuff, though.
0:12:33 > 0:12:35Cereal - it's 40g of cereal.
0:12:37 > 0:12:40If you measure out 40g of cereal, it fits in the baby's bowl.
0:12:43 > 0:12:44That must be illegal!
0:12:47 > 0:12:50Phil's getting help with his diet plan from Denise.
0:12:50 > 0:12:53You've got three fat left, cos you had butter on your bread.
0:12:53 > 0:12:55They can eat most things,
0:12:55 > 0:12:58but by watching exactly what they eat, in minute detail,
0:12:58 > 0:13:02the weight should start to drop off, and more importantly, stay off.
0:13:02 > 0:13:05I just hope Becky is picking it up as well, cos if she doesn't
0:13:05 > 0:13:08follow it, all of this is for nothing, isn't it, really?
0:13:08 > 0:13:11Both Phil and Becky get off to a good start
0:13:11 > 0:13:13and are sticking to their food plans.
0:13:13 > 0:13:16Phil has even replaced the two litres of fizzy pop
0:13:16 > 0:13:18he used to drink every day with water.
0:13:19 > 0:13:22But Rick is worried about his high blood pressure.
0:13:22 > 0:13:26At 24 stone, Phil's heart is having to work so hard to pump
0:13:26 > 0:13:30blood around his body that any overexertion could prove fatal.
0:13:31 > 0:13:34- How's it going, y'all right? - Come on in.- Can I come in?
0:13:34 > 0:13:38For now, Rick wants to keep a close eye on Phil's condition.
0:13:38 > 0:13:40So this is your blood pressure monitor.
0:13:40 > 0:13:44It records your blood pressure for 24 hours, every half an hour.
0:13:44 > 0:13:48- I can't really give you a programme until we get this sorted out.- OK.
0:13:48 > 0:13:51What you can start doing now is you can start going for walks,
0:13:51 > 0:13:54- so the other thing I've got for you is a pedometer.- OK.
0:13:54 > 0:13:57I'm going to set you a goal of 5,000 steps per day.
0:13:57 > 0:13:59By the end of 10 weeks,
0:13:59 > 0:14:01you'll regularly be doing 10,000 steps a day.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03- Brilliant.- All right?
0:14:04 > 0:14:07'High blood pressure is a very serious issue.
0:14:07 > 0:14:08'If it's uncontrolled for too long,'
0:14:08 > 0:14:10it can cause the heart to
0:14:10 > 0:14:13change its shape and stop it from working properly altogether.
0:14:13 > 0:14:17But one of the key issues is about the pipes in the body.
0:14:17 > 0:14:19If you've got high pressure of fluid going through those pipes
0:14:19 > 0:14:23all the time, it starts to tear on the inside.
0:14:23 > 0:14:26The tears cause clots and when you get a clot on the inside of
0:14:26 > 0:14:30an artery, if it finds its way up to the brain, that's a stroke.
0:14:30 > 0:14:33If it finds its way around the heart, that's a heart attack.
0:14:33 > 0:14:37- That's how serious it is. - Can we go for a run?!
0:14:37 > 0:14:39Just to the end? Just to there?!
0:14:39 > 0:14:41Not with the blood pressure!
0:14:41 > 0:14:44'If we did take him up on that joke and ran to the end of the street,'
0:14:44 > 0:14:47he could have a heart attack at the end of the road here.
0:14:47 > 0:14:48That's it.
0:14:48 > 0:14:51CUTLERY CLINKS
0:14:52 > 0:14:53That's scary.
0:14:53 > 0:14:56I don't think the bottom one is supposed to go over 100,
0:14:56 > 0:14:59- I think that's dangerous. - Ah, it'll be reet.
0:14:59 > 0:15:02Well, that's the thing, that you just keep brushing it aside.
0:15:02 > 0:15:04It's really scary.
0:15:04 > 0:15:07Everyone I know who's had a heart attack's in their 60s or 70s.
0:15:07 > 0:15:09I think that's really scary,
0:15:09 > 0:15:14he's only 37 and there is a possibility that that could happen.
0:15:14 > 0:15:16And he just brushes everything off.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19I am getting peed off that I can't go and play football this Sunday.
0:15:19 > 0:15:22I'll be all right. I just don't see the point of doing things by halves.
0:15:22 > 0:15:26May as well just get on with it, crack on with it and get it done.
0:15:26 > 0:15:28I'm not surprised that Phil is frustrated,
0:15:28 > 0:15:32but this all-or-nothing thinking has made him relapse before.
0:15:32 > 0:15:36In the past, Phil's weight has yo-yoed dangerously.
0:15:36 > 0:15:39At his heaviest, he was 30 stone and to lose that weight,
0:15:39 > 0:15:42he took the extreme decision to have a gastric bypass...
0:15:42 > 0:15:45only to put it all back on again.
0:15:45 > 0:15:48I need to try to understand why this keeps happening.
0:15:48 > 0:15:50When did the weight become an issue for you?
0:15:50 > 0:15:53I was living with my ex-partner and then I'd moved out of there
0:15:53 > 0:15:55cos that relationship broke down,
0:15:55 > 0:15:58then to just being on my own and feeling quite alone.
0:15:58 > 0:16:01And then kind of ate to feel better,
0:16:01 > 0:16:03if you like. So then I...
0:16:03 > 0:16:06got to the point where I was literally 30 stone
0:16:06 > 0:16:09so went to see a doctor, asked him about gastric bypass...
0:16:09 > 0:16:10And you lost weight and got fit quickly?
0:16:10 > 0:16:14- Yes, inside a year, I'd dropped 15 stone.- That's amazing.
0:16:14 > 0:16:17- So when did it all go wrong again? - Me and Becky went on our first holiday.
0:16:17 > 0:16:19My dad said, "Relax, you're on holiday.
0:16:19 > 0:16:21"You don't have to do all this."
0:16:21 > 0:16:23And then, next thing you know, here we are.
0:16:23 > 0:16:26Having had a gastric bypass, you cheated.
0:16:26 > 0:16:29I'd have three or four sittings, possibly more.
0:16:29 > 0:16:30So eating, letting it empty a bit,
0:16:30 > 0:16:32eating, letting it empty a bit...
0:16:32 > 0:16:34- Mm.- Wow.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36- It was all and then nothing. - Yeah.
0:16:36 > 0:16:39To be fair, my dad said to me a lot of times, "You need to lose weight",
0:16:39 > 0:16:43- and I shrugged that off.- You didn't want to hear it?- No, I didn't.
0:16:43 > 0:16:46At any point, I could have stopped it all. But I didn't.
0:16:47 > 0:16:48Because?
0:16:49 > 0:16:51I... I have no idea why.
0:16:51 > 0:16:54Unless we work that out, it could happen again.
0:16:55 > 0:16:58My assessment of him is he's a very black-and-white thinker.
0:16:58 > 0:17:00Very all-or-nothing kind of guy.
0:17:00 > 0:17:03People with that kind of black-and-white thinking are much
0:17:03 > 0:17:04more at risk of relapsing,
0:17:04 > 0:17:06plus compromise is very difficult.
0:17:06 > 0:17:09At some stage, he will be moving back in with Becky
0:17:09 > 0:17:12and the kids, so the black-and-white thinking style is something
0:17:12 > 0:17:14we really do need to challenge.
0:17:17 > 0:17:19CAT MIAOWS
0:17:19 > 0:17:21Watch. He'll cry in a minute.
0:17:21 > 0:17:23By sticking to the food plan,
0:17:23 > 0:17:25Becky is now eating 1,500 calories a day.
0:17:25 > 0:17:27I told you!
0:17:27 > 0:17:30..and passing her new habits on to her daughter, Katie Lee.
0:17:30 > 0:17:34Do you like the pasta? Cos it's different.
0:17:34 > 0:17:37Now that she's eating well for the first time in five years,
0:17:37 > 0:17:41Rick is keen to start her on a strict exercise regime.
0:17:41 > 0:17:44The healthy eating and exercise will speed up Becky's metabolism
0:17:44 > 0:17:47and help her lose at least two pounds a week.
0:17:47 > 0:17:50But Rick is hoping she can exceed that.
0:17:50 > 0:17:52For Becky, I have high expectations.
0:17:52 > 0:17:53She's got really strong legs,
0:17:53 > 0:17:56she's actually got a really strong upper body as well.
0:17:56 > 0:17:58What's missing with Becky is the middle section,
0:17:58 > 0:18:00so her core strength is weak.
0:18:00 > 0:18:03- Hi!- Supporting Becky is younger sister Danika.
0:18:03 > 0:18:06I'm going to teach you what is called an interval routine.
0:18:06 > 0:18:08It's actually called a Tabata,
0:18:08 > 0:18:10and what that is is a four-minute routine
0:18:10 > 0:18:13where you go hard for 20 seconds, stop for 10 seconds,
0:18:13 > 0:18:15hard for 20 seconds, stop for 10 seconds.
0:18:15 > 0:18:18So, two feet in...two feet in.
0:18:18 > 0:18:20- Two feet in.- Just do that?
0:18:20 > 0:18:21Two feet in, two feet in, two feet in.
0:18:21 > 0:18:23I can see me getting in a tangle.
0:18:23 > 0:18:27- Do I have to put my feet flat? - Doesn't matter.- Feels a bit silly.
0:18:27 > 0:18:29- OK!- Now sideways. - I can see me falling over!
0:18:29 > 0:18:32- No, you won't fall over.- Face that way... I've got big feet!
0:18:32 > 0:18:34- This is a disadvantage.- That's why you stay on your toes more.
0:18:34 > 0:18:37So I want two feet in, two feet in, two feet in for 20 seconds,
0:18:37 > 0:18:39as many times as you can. Go!
0:18:39 > 0:18:43- Interval training speeds up fat loss.- I'm doing it wrong, now.
0:18:43 > 0:18:44- No, you're doing it right.- Ooh!
0:18:44 > 0:18:47Short bursts of tough exercise with rest in between
0:18:47 > 0:18:51- burns more calories than less intense exercise for longer.- Eugh!
0:18:51 > 0:18:54- I don't know what I'm doing! - You will get used to it.
0:18:54 > 0:18:56- It does knacker you out. - It DOES knacker you out!
0:18:56 > 0:18:58Although we have a lot more work to do.
0:18:58 > 0:19:00And go!
0:19:00 > 0:19:01The main thing that jumps out to me
0:19:01 > 0:19:04with Becky is a distinct lack of confidence.
0:19:04 > 0:19:06She was ready to go, "Oh, I'm doing it the wrong way, I'll quit.
0:19:06 > 0:19:08"I'll walk away."
0:19:08 > 0:19:10That's a little frustrating for me, because I know that she's
0:19:10 > 0:19:14very physically capable of doing anything I ask.
0:19:14 > 0:19:17You can do this, but if she doesn't have it up here,
0:19:17 > 0:19:19it will all fall apart.
0:19:19 > 0:19:21And that makes time!
0:19:22 > 0:19:23Welcome to the Marines, Becks!
0:19:25 > 0:19:28So far, Becky is doing all that we've asked of her,
0:19:28 > 0:19:31but as Rick found out, she lacks confidence.
0:19:31 > 0:19:33- Hiya!- Hello!
0:19:33 > 0:19:37- How are you?- I'm OK, thanks. - Nice to see you.- Nice to see you.
0:19:37 > 0:19:39'I'm curious to know where this has come from.
0:19:39 > 0:19:42'If we don't get to the bottom of it,
0:19:42 > 0:19:44'it could sabotage all her good work.'
0:19:44 > 0:19:46- So... When I came in...- Yeah.
0:19:46 > 0:19:51..I saw a big frame of photos which feels like they're important people.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54- They're pictures of my mum, but I'll bring it.- OK, all right.
0:19:56 > 0:19:58- And this is your mum?- Yes.
0:19:58 > 0:20:00She passed away when I was ten...
0:20:00 > 0:20:03- and we went into care. - You went into care?- Yeah.
0:20:03 > 0:20:06- How old were you when you first went into care?- I'd say about six
0:20:06 > 0:20:08or seven. About six, yeah.
0:20:08 > 0:20:11And then the last time I was in care, I was ten.
0:20:11 > 0:20:14- That must have been really traumatic for you.- Yeah, it was, but...
0:20:16 > 0:20:19- It was the norm for me.- So why do you think it's got to this point?
0:20:19 > 0:20:23I think it was pure laziness with me and I couldn't be bothered.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25But it isn't really just about lazy.
0:20:25 > 0:20:29When I hear you talk to me about how "every Monday I start a diet
0:20:29 > 0:20:31"but then I just can't and then on Tuesday...
0:20:31 > 0:20:34"and then I can't and we get a takeaway..."
0:20:34 > 0:20:37I feel like you've sort of given up, in a way - "What's the point?
0:20:37 > 0:20:39"Will it make a difference?"
0:20:39 > 0:20:42I need to lose so much weight, I think to myself, for me,
0:20:42 > 0:20:45- that's impossible.- You don't believe it, do you? You see, this is wha...
0:20:45 > 0:20:48Cos I don't normally get what I want. You don't always get what you want.
0:20:48 > 0:20:51Well, you certainly didn't as a child. Life has been very,
0:20:51 > 0:20:53very tough on you.
0:20:53 > 0:20:57I can understand why the mind-set you have is one that
0:20:57 > 0:21:01when it starts to become difficult...
0:21:02 > 0:21:05..you just think, "Oh, sod it, what's the point, it doesn't matter.
0:21:05 > 0:21:07"I can't any more."
0:21:07 > 0:21:10Losing a bit of weight is the journey towards the end goal.
0:21:10 > 0:21:14It's not, "Oh, it's just a bit of weight, I've still got so much more to lose".
0:21:14 > 0:21:16There's a whole shift we need in your mind-set.
0:21:16 > 0:21:19I know, and like I said... I know, I know.
0:21:19 > 0:21:22People who go into any kind of challenge believing that
0:21:22 > 0:21:25they're going to fail are likely to do that.
0:21:25 > 0:21:27It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy.
0:21:27 > 0:21:32Becky really has low confidence in her ability, so for me,
0:21:32 > 0:21:33it really is about helping her
0:21:33 > 0:21:36explore this really negative mind-set she gets into
0:21:36 > 0:21:40and not create a self-fulfilling prophecy around failure,
0:21:40 > 0:21:43because we want her to succeed in order to prove to herself
0:21:43 > 0:21:47that she can think herself into success - in all areas of her life.
0:21:51 > 0:21:52After only three weeks
0:21:52 > 0:21:56of eating healthily, there is less fat around Phil's vital organs,
0:21:56 > 0:21:59which will help lower his blood pressure.
0:21:59 > 0:22:02Doing fine with the steps, getting at least 5,000 a day in, easy.
0:22:02 > 0:22:04Not a problem.
0:22:04 > 0:22:07Moderate activities such as walking pose little health risk,
0:22:07 > 0:22:10yet still help to burn calories.
0:22:10 > 0:22:14But Phil is still desperate to up the ante and lose more weight.
0:22:14 > 0:22:16I know I can do more - just go out and train,
0:22:16 > 0:22:19get back to football as well on Sundays.
0:22:19 > 0:22:21Do what I like to do,
0:22:21 > 0:22:24rather than just a little bit of walking here and there.
0:22:24 > 0:22:27While Phil gets to grips with going at a slower pace than he's
0:22:27 > 0:22:31used to, Becky's lack of self-confidence is rearing its head.
0:22:31 > 0:22:35And she's finding the reality of being apart from her partner
0:22:35 > 0:22:37the hardest bit of all.
0:22:37 > 0:22:40Everything is turned upside down, I don't like it.
0:22:40 > 0:22:42It's just rubbish.
0:22:42 > 0:22:45Phil is not there, it's like the whole routine's just changed.
0:22:45 > 0:22:48In the mornings, he's normally there to help me out and he's not there.
0:22:48 > 0:22:50The whole family's been like, split up
0:22:50 > 0:22:52and obviously Phil's at Denise's,
0:22:52 > 0:22:56so he's got Denise there and all that and I'm just plonked on my own.
0:22:56 > 0:22:59I've wanted to give up at least seven times a day every day.
0:22:59 > 0:23:01In all honesty. Every hour.
0:23:04 > 0:23:08I just hope he's sticking to it, I'll be really cross if he's not.
0:23:10 > 0:23:12Today, Becky will get to find out for herself
0:23:12 > 0:23:16when she gets to talk to Phil for the first time in three weeks.
0:23:16 > 0:23:18- Hello?- Hello!- 'You all right?'
0:23:18 > 0:23:21- How are you getting on? - 'It's been weird.'
0:23:21 > 0:23:23I didn't realise how much of a racket you made in this house!
0:23:23 > 0:23:25'It's you, shouting!'
0:23:25 > 0:23:27You do make a racket, cos it's been dead quiet!
0:23:27 > 0:23:29You'd better be being good, Phil.
0:23:29 > 0:23:32Becky, I come home from work, go for a massive long, walk -
0:23:32 > 0:23:35- I have to do 10,000 steps a day. - Get out of town!- 'No, I have!'
0:23:35 > 0:23:37Have you been sick?
0:23:37 > 0:23:39- No.- 'What's Rick said'
0:23:39 > 0:23:42- about your health and that now? - 'My blood pressure's coming down.'
0:23:42 > 0:23:43- 'OK.'- So it's getting better.
0:23:43 > 0:23:46- Are you missing me? - Course I'm missing you!
0:23:46 > 0:23:50- Like a hole in the head.- 'No, serious. Of course I'm missing you.'
0:23:50 > 0:23:51I do love you.
0:23:51 > 0:23:54'You've nothing to worry about. Everything...
0:23:54 > 0:23:56'is cushty.'
0:23:56 > 0:23:58- Phil...- 'What?'- I love you. - 'I love you, too.'
0:23:58 > 0:24:00- 'Don't worry about anything.' - Bye.
0:24:00 > 0:24:01Bye.
0:24:03 > 0:24:04That has made me feel better.
0:24:04 > 0:24:07Speaking to him, it has made me feel better.
0:24:07 > 0:24:11And he even told me he loves me, I don't get that very often!
0:24:11 > 0:24:14If the kids went to bed now, life would be perfect!
0:24:15 > 0:24:16Katie Lee, it's bedtime!
0:24:20 > 0:24:21I said, "Are you missing me?"
0:24:21 > 0:24:23- He said, "I am a bit".- A bit!
0:24:23 > 0:24:25He must be missing me, cos he told me he loves me
0:24:25 > 0:24:28- and he doesn't normally tell me that.- Aw, bless him.
0:24:28 > 0:24:31- How is he getting on, though? - He said he's doing all right,
0:24:31 > 0:24:34but could've been sat there eating a tube of Pringles for all I know!
0:24:34 > 0:24:35What he tells me and what he does...
0:24:35 > 0:24:38"Yeah, I'm getting on dead well, me!"
0:24:38 > 0:24:42Following her phone call with Phil, Becky is on a high.
0:24:42 > 0:24:45But Rick has now added a run to her exercise programme to
0:24:45 > 0:24:50increase her rate of fat loss. She's roped in sister Danika for support.
0:24:50 > 0:24:51I'm losing my pants!
0:24:53 > 0:24:57Oh, I'm on a hill, this ain't fair. Budge up!
0:25:03 > 0:25:05But Becky struggles to keep up.
0:25:05 > 0:25:07Keep walking, speed walk.
0:25:07 > 0:25:10And yet again, starts to lose confidence in her ability.
0:25:10 > 0:25:11I can't breathe very well.
0:25:11 > 0:25:15- Becky, you'll never be able to do anything if you keep stopping. - I know.- That's just ridiculous.
0:25:15 > 0:25:18I know you're overweight, but you really shouldn't be smoking
0:25:18 > 0:25:20if you're getting that short of breath, like that.
0:25:20 > 0:25:23I start panicking, thinking I can't breathe.
0:25:23 > 0:25:26You're doing my head in, you're pissing me off, to be fair.
0:25:26 > 0:25:28- All right.- All right, are you ready?
0:25:28 > 0:25:29Attempt two. Come on.
0:25:31 > 0:25:33'I find it really frustrating, because she struggles.
0:25:33 > 0:25:36'She's always like, "I can't do it, I'm not going to be able to do it,"
0:25:36 > 0:25:38the whole time, doubting herself.
0:25:38 > 0:25:40It does my head in.
0:25:40 > 0:25:42Go as fast as you can!
0:25:42 > 0:25:45I know it's my own fault cos of smoking, but I physically
0:25:45 > 0:25:48feel like I'm going to die cos I can't breathe any more.
0:25:49 > 0:25:52And then Danika saying, "it's your own fault",
0:25:52 > 0:25:54that made me feel even worse.
0:25:54 > 0:25:56Don't come near me!
0:25:56 > 0:25:58I'll be all right in a minute, just give me a minute.
0:25:58 > 0:26:00And that's why I've always quit.
0:26:00 > 0:26:03Because...
0:26:03 > 0:26:06- To be honest, I didn't think it was that bad, you know.- All right!
0:26:08 > 0:26:10While Becky is finding it hard,
0:26:10 > 0:26:14Phil is feeling the benefits of a change in lifestyle.
0:26:14 > 0:26:16Have you arranged teams already?
0:26:16 > 0:26:20His blood pressure has been steadily coming down and he's been told
0:26:20 > 0:26:21he can step up his exercise,
0:26:21 > 0:26:25so he's decided to play a game of football with the lads.
0:26:25 > 0:26:27Should be all right.
0:26:27 > 0:26:29Long as I don't die!
0:26:29 > 0:26:33But Rick is still concerned and has come along to keep a close eye out
0:26:33 > 0:26:36for any warning signs that he might be overdoing it.
0:26:36 > 0:26:40I wanted to come down to see what sort of exercise Phil was doing
0:26:40 > 0:26:42and how that had an effect on his blood pressure.
0:26:42 > 0:26:46I did tell him when last we spoke, he was allowed to do light exercise.
0:26:46 > 0:26:49I want to see how light it actually was.
0:26:49 > 0:26:52- How you feeling, Phil? - All right.
0:26:56 > 0:26:59He seems really short of breath to me. He's telling me he's all right.
0:26:59 > 0:27:01- I'm not sure about that. - I call that half-time.
0:27:03 > 0:27:04Phil, how you doing?
0:27:04 > 0:27:06Yeah, the sun's in my eyes!
0:27:06 > 0:27:07Good.
0:27:07 > 0:27:09So, pop your shirt off for me,
0:27:09 > 0:27:12I'm going to take your blood pressure straight away.
0:27:15 > 0:27:17Have a seat for me.
0:27:17 > 0:27:19- Do you want to guess where your blood pressure is now?- Now?
0:27:19 > 0:27:22Quite high?
0:27:22 > 0:27:24- Right, OK.- Yeah?
0:27:24 > 0:27:27Although blood pressure does go up with exercise,
0:27:27 > 0:27:30anything above 100/90 is cause for concern.
0:27:30 > 0:27:33The boys can do the second half, but we're going to have to sub you out.
0:27:33 > 0:27:35I can't let you play football.
0:27:35 > 0:27:39It's medically ill advised for you to play football at the moment.
0:27:39 > 0:27:41Not that you've done anything wrong,
0:27:41 > 0:27:44but like so many people out there, you're unaware of what your blood
0:27:44 > 0:27:49pressure is doing because you're not feeling the symptoms of it.
0:27:49 > 0:27:53I'm not a scaremonger, but you're really pushing it here.
0:27:54 > 0:27:57- I mean, to a point where you can't come back from, you know?- OK.
0:28:01 > 0:28:05Gutted. But there's only one person to blame for that, and that's me.
0:28:14 > 0:28:16HE SPITS
0:28:16 > 0:28:19Buddy, I need you to calm down as much as possible, OK?
0:28:19 > 0:28:22Because even this sort of frustration that you're feeling
0:28:22 > 0:28:24raises your blood pressure.
0:28:24 > 0:28:27There are 62,000 deaths related to blood pressure per year.
0:28:29 > 0:28:33You're not going to be one of those statistics, not with me on board.
0:28:33 > 0:28:34OK?
0:28:36 > 0:28:38Just calm down. All right?
0:28:40 > 0:28:44For his own safety, Rick will continue to monitor Phil's blood pressure and for now,
0:28:44 > 0:28:46he must stick to a programme
0:28:46 > 0:28:48of healthy eating and just walking.
0:28:48 > 0:28:51And it has come as a bitter disappointment to Phil.
0:28:51 > 0:28:54When I see Becky, I don't want to still be looking similar,
0:28:54 > 0:28:57I'd rather have lost a good few stone,
0:28:57 > 0:29:01to show her that I've done well and that probably won't happen now.
0:29:02 > 0:29:05Just for the fact that I can't do the exercise.
0:29:09 > 0:29:12Phil and Becky have made it to the halfway point and today,
0:29:12 > 0:29:16I've asked Rick to weigh them for the first time.
0:29:16 > 0:29:18I feel quite nervous and apprehensive,
0:29:18 > 0:29:20in case I've not done that well.
0:29:20 > 0:29:23I'm disappointed, cos at the end of the day if I'd been able to run
0:29:23 > 0:29:27or go and play football or box or something, I'd have lost more.
0:29:27 > 0:29:30It's quite difficult to control the emotions right now.
0:29:30 > 0:29:33When we last met, he was very angry about the results
0:29:33 > 0:29:36and I understand his anger, but this isn't about a ten-week
0:29:36 > 0:29:40programme, it's about the rest of his life, not a fad diet,
0:29:40 > 0:29:44where you lose weight and pile it back on three weeks later.
0:29:44 > 0:29:47He has to understand that he needs to take his time.
0:29:50 > 0:29:52I have stopped you from exercising.
0:29:52 > 0:29:54Just by eating healthily
0:29:54 > 0:29:57and walking, you've lost 13 lbs.
0:29:59 > 0:30:02- That's a hell of an achievement. - Not bad, is it, not too shabby!
0:30:02 > 0:30:03How do you feel?
0:30:03 > 0:30:06I feel good, cos obviously I'm going in the right direction,
0:30:06 > 0:30:09- that's brilliant. - There you go, buddy. Well done.
0:30:09 > 0:30:13Phil has surpassed Rick's target of losing two pounds a week,
0:30:13 > 0:30:17- by three pounds. - I'm over the moon.
0:30:17 > 0:30:19Without doing anything physical, I've lost close to a stone,
0:30:19 > 0:30:21so I know that I'm doing the right things.
0:30:21 > 0:30:24I hope Becky's lost weight, just for herself, so she can see
0:30:24 > 0:30:28the fact that this thing is working, and we are both on the right track.
0:30:28 > 0:30:32Becky has had to follow a tougher exercise programme than Phil.
0:30:32 > 0:30:34She has struggled with self-confidence,
0:30:34 > 0:30:38but has persevered and is sticking to eating her 1,500 calories a day.
0:30:38 > 0:30:41What if I've not lost any weight?
0:30:41 > 0:30:44If I've not, it's when usually I would quit.
0:30:44 > 0:30:48In terms of weight, you've lost one stone and three pounds.
0:30:48 > 0:30:50Better than I'd thought!
0:30:50 > 0:30:53- Didn't think I'd lost none, so that's all right!- It's amazing!
0:30:53 > 0:30:58You've lost three pounds of fat per week for the last four weeks.
0:30:58 > 0:30:59I feel a bit better now,
0:30:59 > 0:31:03knowing I've done something, cos I was really panicking.
0:31:03 > 0:31:04Really panicking.
0:31:04 > 0:31:08Losing over a stone in just five weeks would boost most
0:31:08 > 0:31:12people's confidence, but to change the mind-set of a lifetime,
0:31:12 > 0:31:14Becky needs something bigger.
0:31:14 > 0:31:17I've asked Rick to set a challenge that if she succeeds,
0:31:17 > 0:31:21- even Becky can't brush off. - Lots of people do 5Ks,
0:31:21 > 0:31:23- lots of people do 10Ks.- Mm-hm.
0:31:23 > 0:31:28- I'm going to ask you to do a half marathon. Yeah?- Right, OK.
0:31:28 > 0:31:33Becky has just five weeks to train for a 13½-mile run.
0:31:33 > 0:31:37At the minute, I don't believe I can run how much he's asked me to run...
0:31:39 > 0:31:41But I'm willing to see.
0:31:42 > 0:31:43When Becky came in here today
0:31:43 > 0:31:48and I gave her these amazing results, she didn't seem convinced.
0:31:48 > 0:31:51And the challenge becomes that much more important,
0:31:51 > 0:31:53because it requires a lot of hard work,
0:31:53 > 0:31:57but more importantly, it requires a lot of self-belief.
0:31:57 > 0:32:00That's the only way she can achieve it.
0:32:01 > 0:32:03Becky Penny doesn't run half marathons!
0:32:03 > 0:32:05Becky Penny can't run for a bus!
0:32:09 > 0:32:14In the past, Becky has started a diet only to quit every time.
0:32:14 > 0:32:15To challenge that,
0:32:15 > 0:32:20I've deliberately given her a task she'd normally give up on.
0:32:20 > 0:32:24Becky needs evidence to show herself that she can
0:32:24 > 0:32:28succeed at something that feels like an enormous challenge to her.
0:32:28 > 0:32:31- So Rick set you a challenge.- Yes.
0:32:31 > 0:32:34I just don't think it sounds realistic at all.
0:32:34 > 0:32:36You are so frightened of failing, aren't you?
0:32:36 > 0:32:38Not frightened of it, I expect to fail.
0:32:38 > 0:32:41Why can't you give yourself permission to say,
0:32:41 > 0:32:43"I'm going to succeed?"
0:32:43 > 0:32:46I'm not going to say I can do something that at the moment,
0:32:46 > 0:32:50I don't think I can do. But I'm going to try and do it.
0:32:50 > 0:32:52I just genuinely believe that I can't do it.
0:32:52 > 0:32:56So you're going to try for something you genuinely believe you can't do?
0:32:56 > 0:32:57Yes.
0:32:58 > 0:33:01- You are hard!- I know I am!
0:33:01 > 0:33:03But, it's just me being realistic,
0:33:03 > 0:33:06I just don't see the point being unrealistic.
0:33:06 > 0:33:09But I think this realism comes from having been through some
0:33:09 > 0:33:13really tough times in your life, because you said to me
0:33:13 > 0:33:15"things don't generally turn out well for me".
0:33:15 > 0:33:19If you don't expect something, then if it does happen, it's a bonus, isn't it?
0:33:19 > 0:33:22So actually, the person you need to prove this to is yourself, isn't it?
0:33:22 > 0:33:24- Yeah.- Why have you done so well?
0:33:24 > 0:33:26So far?
0:33:26 > 0:33:27Who's made it work?
0:33:28 > 0:33:30Well, I've just followed the rules.
0:33:30 > 0:33:34No, because with diets, normally, I don't do proper diets.
0:33:34 > 0:33:36Who has made this...
0:33:36 > 0:33:38be a success?
0:33:39 > 0:33:41- So far?- Me.
0:33:42 > 0:33:45Thank you! Hoping that you might succeed
0:33:45 > 0:33:48isn't why you succeed.
0:33:49 > 0:33:53Believing you're going to succeed is why you succeed.
0:33:54 > 0:33:56- OK.- She's hard-core.
0:33:56 > 0:34:00She's absolutely nailed in this very negative self-belief
0:34:00 > 0:34:03and helping her shift that mind-set is absolutely crucial,
0:34:03 > 0:34:06because sustaining and maintaining change means that
0:34:06 > 0:34:11when you do wobble or make a mistake or think you might be "failing",
0:34:11 > 0:34:14you've got to then think positively to move yourself back out of it
0:34:14 > 0:34:17and get yourself back on track.
0:34:17 > 0:34:18With four weeks to go,
0:34:18 > 0:34:20Phil is embracing the
0:34:20 > 0:34:22right way to lose weight - slowly.
0:34:22 > 0:34:27He's walking over 10,000 steps a day and his confidence is soaring.
0:34:27 > 0:34:28I feel great, what can I say?
0:34:28 > 0:34:32I've dropped a trouser size, I've had to order new uniform, brilliant.
0:34:32 > 0:34:36And I feel like I've probably grown up a lot in the last four weeks now.
0:34:36 > 0:34:38So I've decided that I'll just take my time,
0:34:38 > 0:34:41it's not a sprint to the end, it's a marathon.
0:34:41 > 0:34:44It's me retraining myself completely from scratch.
0:34:45 > 0:34:48And in the kitchen, he's still counting the calories.
0:34:48 > 0:34:52Who would have thought this time last year I'd have put chilli in a pepper and roasted it?
0:34:52 > 0:34:54Nobody. And here we are.
0:34:56 > 0:35:00That is a taste sensation! And also, I have created...this.
0:35:01 > 0:35:04The food planning bible.
0:35:04 > 0:35:06- Would you like to see it? - Yeah, please.
0:35:06 > 0:35:09So what I've done is created an Excel spreadsheet with all
0:35:09 > 0:35:11the things that I'm allowed to eat and what this then does is
0:35:11 > 0:35:14calculate what I've got left throughout the day.
0:35:14 > 0:35:17It's even colour-coordinated!
0:35:17 > 0:35:19So we know what exactly is what.
0:35:20 > 0:35:24What's let us down in the past is we had no set plan to anything,
0:35:24 > 0:35:28so hopefully this will help me and Becky plan our meals.
0:35:28 > 0:35:29It's just there, just go and do it.
0:35:29 > 0:35:33Tanya seems to think there's a problem here and there, maybe,
0:35:33 > 0:35:35but I knew that I didn't need psychologising...
0:35:37 > 0:35:40The bible said, "Eat this". Sussed.
0:35:42 > 0:35:47But Phil thought that he'd sussed it before when he had a gastric bypass.
0:35:47 > 0:35:49I'm worried that his way of thinking is very black and white
0:35:49 > 0:35:53and so one slip-up could cause him to fall off the wagon
0:35:53 > 0:35:55and put the weight back on.
0:35:55 > 0:35:57So I've met up with Rick and behavioural specialist
0:35:57 > 0:36:01Professor Paul Dolan to discuss how to move forward.
0:36:01 > 0:36:04The problem there is that he takes things to extremes
0:36:04 > 0:36:06and pushes too hard.
0:36:06 > 0:36:09I get the message from him, which is "Look, I'm fine now,
0:36:09 > 0:36:11"I don't really need any more intervention", it's a
0:36:11 > 0:36:13very black-and-white view of things.
0:36:13 > 0:36:16Which feels to him like he's being very strong and focused,
0:36:16 > 0:36:19it actually makes him quite vulnerable to relapse.
0:36:19 > 0:36:21It'll take the slightest little trigger,
0:36:21 > 0:36:23maybe he'll have one can of Coke,
0:36:23 > 0:36:27and then it'll be too late for him to pay attention to us, so we need
0:36:27 > 0:36:31to do something with him now that stops the past repeating itself.
0:36:36 > 0:36:40With only three weeks to go before Phil gets back with Becky,
0:36:40 > 0:36:43Paul wants to minimise Phil's chances of relapse
0:36:43 > 0:36:47and has discovered an experimental method that might just work.
0:36:47 > 0:36:52I've found some evidence that shows that you can essentially rewire
0:36:52 > 0:36:57the brain of an alcoholic to make them less likely to drink again.
0:36:57 > 0:37:00If it works with alcoholics, can it work with Phil?
0:37:00 > 0:37:02I will explain to you afterwards,
0:37:02 > 0:37:05- but I don't want to say too much in advance.- OK.
0:37:05 > 0:37:06In the following task,
0:37:06 > 0:37:10you will be presented images either in landscape or portrait format.
0:37:10 > 0:37:13Pull the joystick towards you if you see an image in portrait format.
0:37:13 > 0:37:15Push the joystick away from you
0:37:15 > 0:37:18if you see an image in landscape format.
0:37:18 > 0:37:19Got it?
0:37:20 > 0:37:22Mixed in with pictures of animals are shots of fizzy
0:37:22 > 0:37:24and healthy drinks.
0:37:24 > 0:37:27Phil will obviously notice this, but the question is,
0:37:27 > 0:37:29how much will he notice?
0:37:29 > 0:37:32How much quicker is he pushing away healthy drinks compared to
0:37:32 > 0:37:34what he loves, fizzy drinks?
0:37:34 > 0:37:39You are faster at pushing away healthy drinks
0:37:39 > 0:37:40than you are fizzy drinks.
0:37:40 > 0:37:42This suggests that your fast brain,
0:37:42 > 0:37:47your automatic system is wired in a way that lends itself for you
0:37:47 > 0:37:50to be drawn towards fizzy drinks over healthy drinks.
0:37:50 > 0:37:53So, without even realising it, Phil is lingering over the fizzy
0:37:53 > 0:37:56drinks longer than he does the healthy drinks.
0:37:56 > 0:37:59I've found in these past seven weeks that I've got something that
0:37:59 > 0:38:01I never knew I had - which is willpower.
0:38:01 > 0:38:04And I haven't touched a drop.
0:38:04 > 0:38:07I have a view that's based on good evidence that our past speaks
0:38:07 > 0:38:10to our future...much more than intentions or willpower do.
0:38:10 > 0:38:13So when willpower is weak - it doesn't say strong
0:38:13 > 0:38:18all the time - you may well...
0:38:18 > 0:38:20get sucked back in again.
0:38:20 > 0:38:23Well, I'm seven weeks clean.
0:38:23 > 0:38:27Even though Phil can't imagine falling off the wagon ever again,
0:38:27 > 0:38:31Paul starts phase two - the brain training.
0:38:31 > 0:38:33This time Phil is shown only drinks.
0:38:33 > 0:38:35He has to push away the fizzy drinks
0:38:35 > 0:38:38and pull healthy drinks towards him.
0:38:38 > 0:38:40Push the fizzy, pull the healthy.
0:38:41 > 0:38:44Does it over and over again...
0:38:44 > 0:38:46and it rewires his automatic brain.
0:38:46 > 0:38:49By repeatedly pushing away fizzy drinks,
0:38:49 > 0:38:52Phil is learning an automatic response to avoid them.
0:38:54 > 0:38:58So what I want you to do is do this again over the next four days.
0:38:58 > 0:38:5915 minutes each time.
0:38:59 > 0:39:03This kind of experiment has been done with alcoholics,
0:39:03 > 0:39:07with anxiety disorders, with public speaking.
0:39:07 > 0:39:10And in every case, there is a change.
0:39:10 > 0:39:14In the case of the alcoholics, 13% difference between people
0:39:14 > 0:39:17that did this intervention and those that were in the control group.
0:39:17 > 0:39:19That's a huge effect.
0:39:19 > 0:39:22Anything that will stop me reaching for that fizzy drinks is
0:39:22 > 0:39:28probably the best outcome, cos then we're on a better path to health.
0:39:28 > 0:39:33In a week, Phil will be retested to see if the brain training has
0:39:33 > 0:39:36made an impact on his ingrained weakness for fizzy drink.
0:39:38 > 0:39:40With just two weeks to go
0:39:40 > 0:39:43before Becky attempts to run a half marathon,
0:39:43 > 0:39:46- she's doing all she can to train. - That's awful!
0:39:46 > 0:39:50- But it still seems out of reach. - I'm quite doubtful at the minute.
0:39:50 > 0:39:51Very doubtful.
0:39:52 > 0:39:56Becky always put herself down a lot, she never believes in herself.
0:39:56 > 0:39:59When you tell her she can do something, she just beats herself up
0:39:59 > 0:40:03and gives every excuse under the sun that she can't do it when she can.
0:40:03 > 0:40:05I've really not noticed it before, how bad it is,
0:40:05 > 0:40:07but then I get really stressed out with her
0:40:07 > 0:40:10cos she says, "I can't, I can't", I'm like, "You can! You can do it!
0:40:10 > 0:40:12"Just believe in yourself."
0:40:12 > 0:40:13I really don't know where it's come from,
0:40:13 > 0:40:15but she needs to snap out of it.
0:40:15 > 0:40:17BABY CRIES
0:40:17 > 0:40:21With time ticking, Becky needs Danika's encouragement like
0:40:21 > 0:40:25never before and so I have to help them reach a better understanding.
0:40:25 > 0:40:27I've never really noticed it before,
0:40:27 > 0:40:29how much you lack in confidence and how bad you are.
0:40:29 > 0:40:32Well, I'm not going to go, "I've got no confidence, me"
0:40:32 > 0:40:34You're not going to go up to someone and say it.
0:40:34 > 0:40:37- Do you not feel like anything I do can help you?- Yeah!
0:40:37 > 0:40:39You do, like when I was doing that ladder.
0:40:39 > 0:40:41You was being really encouraging and that made me feel like, yeah,
0:40:41 > 0:40:43I did it better because you was there.
0:40:43 > 0:40:46But when we did that run, the things you were saying made me feel worse.
0:40:46 > 0:40:49You need to be going, "Right, she's really anxious now".
0:40:49 > 0:40:53And rather than confront it, you kind of need to talk her down.
0:40:53 > 0:40:57I just need to just be a bit more gentle with you, really!
0:40:57 > 0:41:00But I don't want you now, because of this, to think all the time,
0:41:00 > 0:41:03"Oh, I can't say this in front of Becky", treading on eggshells.
0:41:03 > 0:41:07- What you're thinking now, is...you're being selfish.- Mm-hm.
0:41:07 > 0:41:08You're not being selfish,
0:41:08 > 0:41:12you're asking someone to understand you better and help you.
0:41:12 > 0:41:15That's what your sister is saying, let me be part of that.
0:41:15 > 0:41:18- She loves you.- I need to be here to help you, to support you
0:41:18 > 0:41:20- when you get these anxieties. - That's right.
0:41:20 > 0:41:23You're going to calm down...
0:41:23 > 0:41:27- And I am, too.- Yeah!- Yay! Look at that, brilliant. Well done.
0:41:27 > 0:41:28When we're anxious,
0:41:28 > 0:41:31our brain becomes our bully, telling us we're not good enough,
0:41:31 > 0:41:33we can't achieve things.
0:41:33 > 0:41:36And so someone who offers an alternative perspective
0:41:36 > 0:41:42helps us create our own more positive, strong internal voice.
0:41:42 > 0:41:43Ready? Go!
0:41:43 > 0:41:45Over the next week,
0:41:45 > 0:41:49Danika supports Becky by helping her build up her core strength.
0:41:49 > 0:41:52- You're doing well, Becky.- I'm dying, here!- Come on, don't give up!
0:41:52 > 0:41:56- And Rick pops by to focus on her technique and stamina.- Let's go!
0:41:56 > 0:41:59When you want to start running, you pace yourself
0:41:59 > 0:42:01and you set yourself steadily.
0:42:01 > 0:42:03Run for a very short distance or period of time,
0:42:03 > 0:42:06then walk for a distance. Walk it.
0:42:06 > 0:42:08You build up the times and you build the distances.
0:42:08 > 0:42:11That's how you build up running for beginners. How does that feel?
0:42:11 > 0:42:14A lot easier than normal. I still don't think I'll be able to do it.
0:42:14 > 0:42:17For Phil, life is moving at a much slower pace.
0:42:17 > 0:42:21He's had the kids every week, but it's not the same.
0:42:21 > 0:42:25I'm actually missing home and little things, like, Becky constantly
0:42:25 > 0:42:29texting and ringing, just for daft little things most of the time.
0:42:29 > 0:42:30But there is some good news.
0:42:30 > 0:42:32Eight weeks of healthy eating
0:42:32 > 0:42:35and constant walking has meant his blood pressure has dropped
0:42:35 > 0:42:39to a healthy level and finally, he can step up his exercise programme.
0:42:39 > 0:42:42Got the old ticker going!
0:42:42 > 0:42:45Paul's brain training is working, too.
0:42:45 > 0:42:48In fact, Phil's now three times as attracted to healthy drinks
0:42:48 > 0:42:51as he ever was to fizzy drinks.
0:42:51 > 0:42:54But will that be enough to stop him from relapsing in the future?
0:42:56 > 0:42:59With just one week to go before Phil and Becky are reunited,
0:42:59 > 0:43:03I'm still concerned that Phil risks falling off the wagon.
0:43:03 > 0:43:06I want to set up a safety net that he can use
0:43:06 > 0:43:09if he ever feels he's going off-track in the future.
0:43:09 > 0:43:12I've asked his friends and family to help me out.
0:43:12 > 0:43:14How are you, my friend?
0:43:14 > 0:43:15..I'm OK!
0:43:16 > 0:43:21- Very surprised by this.- Good to see you. Surprised by this?- Yes.
0:43:21 > 0:43:24When we leave - behaviour, health, fitness,
0:43:24 > 0:43:27that's not going to be a problem for you.
0:43:28 > 0:43:31But it is about relapse and it is about how can this be
0:43:31 > 0:43:34different to all the other times you've managed this?
0:43:34 > 0:43:38I am not that person that I was when we started this.
0:43:38 > 0:43:42Maybe...the people close to you need to hear you say that.
0:43:42 > 0:43:43You're not looking too chuffed!
0:43:43 > 0:43:46Let's just do it, let's get it out of the way.
0:43:46 > 0:43:49- I bet you're shocked to see us, aren't you?!- I am!
0:43:50 > 0:43:54So, all of us know that past behaviour is the best
0:43:54 > 0:43:56predictor of future behaviour.
0:43:56 > 0:43:58- People change. - People do change,
0:43:58 > 0:44:01but part of change is being able to have these conversations
0:44:01 > 0:44:06and for everybody in your life to feel able to say these things
0:44:06 > 0:44:10to you, because in the past, when they have, you've not listened.
0:44:10 > 0:44:13- Yeah.- Are any of you concerned there is a risk?
0:44:13 > 0:44:17It's always a concern. You're saying, "I feel that good,
0:44:17 > 0:44:19- "I'll go and get a bag of chips".- Mm.
0:44:19 > 0:44:20But I am now ears and eyes open.
0:44:20 > 0:44:24Before, it was easy, even with the gastric bypass, it was easy,
0:44:24 > 0:44:26I didn't have to think about anything.
0:44:26 > 0:44:28But this hasn't been an easy process at all.
0:44:28 > 0:44:31Nobody likes looking at themselves in the mirror, do they?
0:44:31 > 0:44:34And realising, picking fault with themselves, no-one likes to do that.
0:44:34 > 0:44:38And I've had to do that, and you've made me do that a lot of the time,
0:44:38 > 0:44:41and this is why I've probably grown up a little bit.
0:44:41 > 0:44:44We're going to do things differently
0:44:44 > 0:44:47and I want Becky to be involved and we can support each other.
0:44:47 > 0:44:48Absolutely.
0:44:48 > 0:44:51And I hope now you feel really strong about everything.
0:44:51 > 0:44:54- I do.- I don't think you're going to relapse this time.
0:44:54 > 0:44:57- I'm thinking you've learned your lesson!- You look quite emotional.
0:44:57 > 0:44:59Well, it's an emotional moment, isn't it?
0:45:01 > 0:45:03It was a bit of a breakthrough moment, really,
0:45:03 > 0:45:05and I think what he's done is given his friends
0:45:05 > 0:45:08and his family permission to support him in the future,
0:45:08 > 0:45:10and that's a really good thing.
0:45:16 > 0:45:20The ten weeks are nearly up and for Becky, it's her ultimate test -
0:45:20 > 0:45:22the half marathon.
0:45:22 > 0:45:24Will she, for the first time in her life,
0:45:24 > 0:45:27be able to believe in herself enough to finish the challenge?
0:45:27 > 0:45:31You'll be fine, stop panicking.
0:45:31 > 0:45:34- I feel sick.- You'll be all right.
0:45:34 > 0:45:36Calm down. Stop panicking.
0:45:45 > 0:45:48Becky... Once you get into it, you'll be all right.
0:45:49 > 0:45:51KLAXON BLARES
0:45:51 > 0:45:53Right - love you. See you in a bit.
0:45:55 > 0:45:58Go on, Beck. Go on, Beck!
0:45:59 > 0:46:01She's panicking a lot at the minute.
0:46:01 > 0:46:04Give her five minutes or so, she'll be all right.
0:46:05 > 0:46:06Hopefully.
0:46:17 > 0:46:20Becky makes a bold start...
0:46:22 > 0:46:25At the halfway mark, Danika is waiting.
0:46:25 > 0:46:2913 miles is a long way. I couldn't do it.
0:46:29 > 0:46:32- Thank you.- Come on, Beck.
0:46:32 > 0:46:34- How are you, all right?- No!
0:46:34 > 0:46:36You're doing brilliantly!
0:46:36 > 0:46:39- You're doing really well, keep going! D'you need the toilet?- Yeah!
0:46:39 > 0:46:42- There's one there! - Oh, no, I'm all right!
0:46:42 > 0:46:44Keep going, you're doing really well!
0:46:44 > 0:46:46She's doing all right, she doesn't even look tired!
0:46:46 > 0:46:47I feel a bit better now...
0:46:47 > 0:46:50She's not panicking, I was thinking she'd come out of the car
0:46:50 > 0:46:52and be on the floor.
0:46:52 > 0:46:53She's doing all right.
0:46:56 > 0:46:59- You're doing really, really well, Beck, come on! - I can't feel my feet or my hands.
0:46:59 > 0:47:02It's all right, just keep going - that's probably a good thing!
0:47:02 > 0:47:05- Look how fat they've got!- You'll be all right, just keep drinking water.
0:47:05 > 0:47:07You're doing really, really well.
0:47:07 > 0:47:09Come on!
0:47:38 > 0:47:42- ECHOING VOICEOVER:- Everybody knows that we can't do it...
0:47:42 > 0:47:44That we can't do it...
0:47:44 > 0:47:45We can't do it...
0:47:51 > 0:47:53But I want to prove them wrong...
0:48:03 > 0:48:05- PA:- '..into the last 200 metres!'
0:48:05 > 0:48:07Come on, Beck!
0:48:08 > 0:48:09'It's hurting you now,
0:48:09 > 0:48:12'I can see it in your face, but you're nearly there!'
0:48:12 > 0:48:13Well done, Beck!
0:48:13 > 0:48:16- 'You've done it!' - APPLAUSE
0:48:19 > 0:48:20- That was- BLEEP.
0:48:20 > 0:48:22I'm never doing that ever again in me life!
0:48:23 > 0:48:27The average half marathon time for women is a little over two hours.
0:48:27 > 0:48:30Becky's done it in just three.
0:48:30 > 0:48:32- Are you all right?- No. - Why, what's up?
0:48:32 > 0:48:35- Not functioning very well. - Give me a hug.
0:48:35 > 0:48:38Aw, well done.
0:48:38 > 0:48:40You done really, really well.
0:48:40 > 0:48:43I hope that I've proved everyone wrong.
0:48:46 > 0:48:49About yourself?
0:48:49 > 0:48:51Still working on meself!
0:48:51 > 0:48:53Are you not proud of yourself?
0:48:55 > 0:48:57Honest to God, Becky, I'm so proud of you.
0:48:59 > 0:49:00How do you feel?
0:49:06 > 0:49:08What's up with you?
0:49:08 > 0:49:11I just...wish I didn't find it uncomfortable.
0:49:11 > 0:49:13Saying that I've done something good,
0:49:13 > 0:49:16or when someone tells me I've done something good.
0:49:18 > 0:49:21- You're hard work, sometimes. - I am hard work!
0:49:23 > 0:49:24I'm glad I've done it, though.
0:49:26 > 0:49:29The ten-week separation is finally over.
0:49:29 > 0:49:31Very soon, Becky and Phil will find out
0:49:31 > 0:49:34what they have two show for such a huge sacrifice.
0:49:38 > 0:49:40It's the morning of the reunion.
0:49:40 > 0:49:42You want to look your best, don't you,
0:49:42 > 0:49:44to see her again after ten weeks.
0:49:45 > 0:49:48But Phil's hopes go beyond the surface.
0:49:48 > 0:49:53Starting afresh and everything to look forward to as a family, and...
0:49:53 > 0:49:55Just starting our lives again, really.
0:49:56 > 0:49:59Of course, I can't wait to see Becky.
0:49:59 > 0:50:00It's very relaxing.
0:50:02 > 0:50:04I'll be honest, I didn't think I was going to make ten weeks,
0:50:04 > 0:50:06I thought I would have quit.
0:50:06 > 0:50:09I think it's been worth it, definitely been worth it.
0:50:09 > 0:50:11I just hope that Phil feels the same.
0:50:17 > 0:50:19I've enjoyed doing this so much,
0:50:19 > 0:50:22I just don't see a way of going back, if I'm honest with you.
0:50:22 > 0:50:24We can look forward to having a life
0:50:24 > 0:50:27rather than just an existence, really.
0:50:27 > 0:50:28I just want to give her a hug.
0:50:31 > 0:50:3610 weeks ago, Becky and Phil made the radical and really brave
0:50:36 > 0:50:38decision to separate so they could focus, on their own,
0:50:38 > 0:50:40on health and wellbeing.
0:50:40 > 0:50:43And they've done incredibly well.
0:50:43 > 0:50:46This is it, mate. After ten long weeks.
0:50:46 > 0:50:48But now they're coming back together.
0:50:48 > 0:50:51The question is, can they continue to do as well as they've done,
0:50:51 > 0:50:53but can they do it as a couple?
0:50:53 > 0:50:55Getting scared again.
0:50:55 > 0:50:57Now is when the hardest part begins.
0:50:57 > 0:51:00I don't want to do this any more!
0:51:00 > 0:51:01Is it too late?
0:51:01 > 0:51:03To celebrate their hard work,
0:51:03 > 0:51:07I've arranged for their friends and family to surprise them.
0:51:07 > 0:51:09Phil and Becky are very different people.
0:51:09 > 0:51:11As they reunite and come together as a couple,
0:51:11 > 0:51:16it's vitally important that they learn to support one another
0:51:16 > 0:51:18in the healthier choices they've made so far.
0:51:18 > 0:51:19This is it.
0:51:19 > 0:51:22Because it would be a tragedy to come together and undo
0:51:22 > 0:51:26all the positive things that they've done over the past ten weeks.
0:51:40 > 0:51:43APPLAUSE AND CHEERING
0:51:49 > 0:51:51There he is! Hello!
0:51:54 > 0:51:55- How are you?- All right!
0:51:58 > 0:52:00Are you nervous?
0:52:00 > 0:52:03- I wasn't... - LAUGHTER
0:52:03 > 0:52:04Now we're getting there, I think.
0:52:04 > 0:52:06- How much do you want to see Becky? - A lot.
0:52:06 > 0:52:09So, I think that's what we should do.
0:52:13 > 0:52:14One minute.
0:52:16 > 0:52:17Oh, I feel sick.
0:52:17 > 0:52:19# God only knows
0:52:22 > 0:52:26# Why it's taken me so long
0:52:26 > 0:52:28# To let my doubts go
0:52:28 > 0:52:30Right, let's get out.
0:52:32 > 0:52:36# You're the only one that I want
0:52:36 > 0:52:38# I don't know why I'm scared
0:52:38 > 0:52:39One minute.
0:52:39 > 0:52:41# I've been here before
0:52:41 > 0:52:43# Every feeling, every word
0:52:43 > 0:52:46# I've imagined it all
0:52:46 > 0:52:50# You'll never know if you never try
0:52:50 > 0:52:53# To forgive your past
0:52:53 > 0:52:59# And simply be mine
0:52:59 > 0:53:01# I dare you to let me be
0:53:01 > 0:53:04WHOOPING AND CHEERING
0:53:04 > 0:53:08# Your one and only
0:53:08 > 0:53:12# I promise I'm worthy
0:53:12 > 0:53:16# To hold in your arms
0:53:16 > 0:53:21# So come on and give me the chance
0:53:21 > 0:53:22Hiya.
0:53:22 > 0:53:25# To prove I'm the one who can
0:53:26 > 0:53:29# Walk that mile
0:53:29 > 0:53:31I've missed you.
0:53:31 > 0:53:35# Until the end starts... #
0:53:37 > 0:53:39Are you all right?
0:53:39 > 0:53:40Who are you?!
0:53:40 > 0:53:42LAUGHTER
0:53:43 > 0:53:46- How are you?- I need to, er, steady myself right now.
0:53:49 > 0:53:53I think it's time really for you to know how much change you've made.
0:53:53 > 0:53:55Phil, in just ten weeks,
0:53:55 > 0:53:59you've actually lost over three stone in fat,
0:53:59 > 0:54:03and that's an incredible, incredible feat.
0:54:03 > 0:54:04WHOOPING AND CHEERING
0:54:04 > 0:54:06Well done, Phil!
0:54:09 > 0:54:12Becky, you've lost over two stone in ten weeks.
0:54:12 > 0:54:14That's really, really good.
0:54:14 > 0:54:16Oh, I feel better now I know I've lost something!
0:54:16 > 0:54:18Can you tell Phil what you did last Sunday?
0:54:18 > 0:54:21Half marathon. I might have only just made it to the end,
0:54:21 > 0:54:23- but I made it to the end. - You did it?- Yeah!
0:54:23 > 0:54:26- Phil, you've got tears in your eyes.- Well done.
0:54:26 > 0:54:28- Big well done.- Are you proud of her?
0:54:28 > 0:54:30I'm very proud of you.
0:54:30 > 0:54:35It's made me realise that I can do some things if I put my mind to it.
0:54:36 > 0:54:40A lot of things are going to be different than before you left.
0:54:40 > 0:54:43We can't go back to how that was.
0:54:43 > 0:54:46- This is just the start, all right? - OK.
0:54:46 > 0:54:48And I will support you more. And we will do this.
0:54:50 > 0:54:51Well done. Well done.
0:55:02 > 0:55:04This is real crunch time for them.
0:55:04 > 0:55:06They can do it on their own,
0:55:06 > 0:55:10but they've now got to make it work, really work, as a couple.
0:55:10 > 0:55:13Not just for themselves, but for their children.
0:55:24 > 0:55:27Phil and Becky are still losing weight.
0:55:27 > 0:55:31Now, Phil is four stone lighter in total, and Becky three.
0:55:33 > 0:55:37Things are very different from before we did this, innit?
0:55:37 > 0:55:41For a start, we've not had a takeaway for three month.
0:55:41 > 0:55:43Still not obviously a picture of health,
