0:46:08 > 0:46:09This is a parallel rule.

0:46:09 > 0:46:12We understand it belonged to Thomas Andrews,

0:46:12 > 0:46:16who was the design manager at Harland and Wolff at the time of Titanic.

0:46:16 > 0:46:18It's basically two rulers

0:46:18 > 0:46:20which are connected by two arms,

0:46:20 > 0:46:22and they draw parallel lines.

0:46:22 > 0:46:24For Andrews' design team, it was a vital tool

0:46:24 > 0:46:26in making the guts of the ship.

0:46:26 > 0:46:29Parallel rules would give you the accuracy that you need

0:46:29 > 0:46:32drawing elevations and floor plans of the bedrooms

0:46:32 > 0:46:36and the main function rooms within the ship,

0:46:36 > 0:46:37or even drawing the funnels,

0:46:37 > 0:46:40which are obviously parallel to each other,

0:46:40 > 0:46:43or even the decks. That's where it would come into its own.

0:46:43 > 0:46:45If you look at Titanic from any angle,

0:46:45 > 0:46:50be it from the front or the rear or from the side, it is spectacular.

0:46:53 > 0:46:54Without this simple tool,

0:46:54 > 0:46:57the Titanic wouldn't have made it off the drawing board.
