0:18:20 > 0:18:23as Lucy Beale, who I played through my teenage years.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26I was constantly being judged on my appearance rather

0:18:26 > 0:18:28than my acting ability.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31It put a real pressure on me to be slim and beautiful all the time.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33It meant I spent half my life wearing push-up bras

0:18:33 > 0:18:34and Spanx pants.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36What? Isn't Spandex back?

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Yeah, in the back of my wardrobe.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41Now, although I may be a guy,

0:18:41 > 0:18:45I've had my fair share of feeling insecure about the way I look.

0:18:45 > 0:18:48I'm definitely not tall, and I'm far from Mr Universe.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50But let me say,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53this man proved that real fitness beats giant abs any day.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56At just 21, he signed up to the TV show Gladiators.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08- they ever had on the show? - Yeah, I was 10 stones.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16Anyway, we've come here to a high school in the West Country

0:19:16 > 0:19:18to conduct an exciting new experiment.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20And it's called Body Talk.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32- Hi, guys.- Hey.- I'm Melissa. - And I'm Radzi.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35We're here today to talk to you guys about body image.

0:19:35 > 0:19:39So, first of all, what do you think the definition of body image is?

0:19:40 > 0:19:42The way you feel about being who you are.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46I think body image is the way you feel and how others view you.

0:19:46 > 0:19:50I think body image is when you define yourself into a category

0:19:50 > 0:19:51of what you think you look like.

0:19:51 > 0:19:55You judge yourself and your self-esteem.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58Body image is basically the way you feel about the way you look.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00So now, before you do anything else,

0:20:00 > 0:20:02we'd like you to fill out our Body Talk surveys.

0:20:02 > 0:20:04All we need you to do is fill out, on a scale of one to ten,

0:20:04 > 0:20:07how you're feeling about the way you look right now.

0:20:07 > 0:20:10So if you put between five and ten, you're feeling good about yourself.

0:20:10 > 0:20:11And if you put from nought to five,

0:20:11 > 0:20:13you're probably having a bit of a rubbish day.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16But don't worry, it's totally anonymous,

0:20:16 > 0:20:18so we want you to be completely honest.

0:20:18 > 0:20:22OK, this is my ballot box. I'm going to ask you to fill them out

0:20:28 > 0:20:31The influence of the media certainly needs to take a big

0:20:31 > 0:20:34part of the blame when it comes to us feeling bad about our bodies.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40But there are other causes closer to us which can also make us feel bad.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43Body Talk and body-bullying are quite common.

0:20:45 > 0:20:46You know what we mean.

0:20:46 > 0:20:49When we say something bad about the way another person looks,

0:20:49 > 0:20:54be it your friends, your classmates, a celebrity, or even yourself.

0:20:54 > 0:20:56Now, you might think you're being funny,

0:20:56 > 0:20:57but put yourself on the receiving end.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59It can be very upsetting.

0:21:02 > 0:21:06In some cases, the impact can be devastating, with long-term

0:21:06 > 0:21:08and even deadly consequences.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11Guys, as we can see from your body image surveys,

0:21:11 > 0:21:14you're not feeling great about the way you look right now.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16So we're going to see if it's possible

0:21:16 > 0:21:18to improve those scores over just two days.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20What we want to do is ban Body Talk bullying.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22We want to see if we can get you feeling

0:21:22 > 0:21:24a bit better about yourselves.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27What we're going to do is called Bright Body Talk.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29It's not just about banning negative Body Talk,

0:21:29 > 0:21:32but about encouraging positive Body Talk.

0:21:32 > 0:21:35So over the next couple of days we want you guys to stop all

0:21:35 > 0:21:38of your negative comments to each other and basically feed each other

0:21:38 > 0:21:43compliments about how great you look and how great you are.

0:22:51 > 0:22:53One of the biggest problems is that we don't realise how critical

0:22:53 > 0:22:55we're being about ourselves.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58We partake in self-bullying and we regularly beat ourselves up.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01Most of the time we don't even realise we're actually doing it.

0:23:01 > 0:23:03You know the kind of thing we mean.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10- Radzi, I feel so fat today. I look awful.- Fat? You look fine.

0:23:10 > 0:23:13- I'm the one that's skinny and puny. - As if.

0:23:13 > 0:23:17Have you seen the state of my little finger? It's not so little, is it?

0:23:17 > 0:23:21Your little finger? My hair is out of control at the moment.
