0:00:02 > 0:00:04You know, Connor kind of landed on Planet Fashion,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06and it was like, you know, two orbits colliding.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08He's so unique.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10I've never seen anyone that looks like him.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14He's beautiful and ugly and crazy-looking

0:00:14 > 0:00:17and angelic-looking.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23The ears are what got me, and then there's the mouth

0:00:23 > 0:00:27and the eyes and the, sort of, heaviness in his brow.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29But it all comes together.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32He's not the bad boy he looks like.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35- Yeah.- He is the sweetest boy in a bad boy face.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39When you see a picture of him, you just stare at it.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43There's not been as much interest about a model ever.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45I wouldn't like it to be...last five years

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and then, all of a sudden, dumped.

0:00:57 > 0:01:0118-year-old Connor Newall is from the Govan area of Glasgow.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03He started modelling when he was 16,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05and has had a meteoric rise into the

0:01:05 > 0:01:08upper echelons of the fashion world.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09Now everyone wants a piece of him.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11But who is this model teenager,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13and how did he go from Govan schoolboy

0:01:13 > 0:01:15to fashion icon?

0:01:21 > 0:01:24My mum is a home help worker.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29My dad is a shipbuilder in the Govan shipyards.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33My big sister Denise, she's just got a different job every two seconds.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37My older brother Andrew, who's in the British Army,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39he's been in the Army six years.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43And my little sister Morgan, she's in first year of high school.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47And I'm the second-youngest, and I'm a model.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55I was casting a short film

0:01:55 > 0:01:57for Knife Crime Scotland.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00The director was very keen for me to street cast

0:02:00 > 0:02:04and visit secondary schools to find some new faces.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07I was on my way out of the door,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09saying goodbye to the headteacher,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12when the school bell rang.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16My boy came down the stairs just as I was about to leave,

0:02:16 > 0:02:21and I quickly asked the headteacher, "Can you stop that boy?"

0:02:21 > 0:02:23And it was Connor.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30Claire Catterson had cast him in a commercial

0:02:30 > 0:02:32and sent some pictures to us.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Within pressing the button, send, of the e-mail,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38my phone rings and he said, "Where is he?

0:02:38 > 0:02:39"I want him in the office."

0:02:39 > 0:02:43It absolutely was one of those moments when you open an e-mail

0:02:43 > 0:02:45and, you know,

0:02:45 > 0:02:49the hairs on your arms just stand up.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51It was, like, a Saturday morning.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53I was still, like, hungover.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54It was an unknown caller, he called me, said,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57"I'm Michael O'Brien. I'm from Model Team Glasgow.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00"I'm a model scout." I was like...

0:03:00 > 0:03:03"Why is this guy calling me?"

0:03:03 > 0:03:08He just looked completely different, completely different to everybody.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11I thought he was joking so I was going to hang up the phone.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13He said, "Can I meet you?" I said, "OK, when?"

0:03:13 > 0:03:16He said, "I'll call you a cab right now."

0:03:16 > 0:03:18And, before I even met him,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20I'd sent the images down to some friends in London.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25Michael from Model Team called me up one day and said, "Listen,

0:03:25 > 0:03:26"you're going to think I'm crazy,

0:03:26 > 0:03:30"but I've just seen the pictures of this boy from Glasgow.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32"He's really short. He's quite peculiar-looking.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35"But I think there's something really special about him."

0:03:35 > 0:03:37And he e-mails me these pictures.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39And then the phone started ringing.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41And, to be honest, it's never stopped.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Michael O'Brien signed Connor up immediately

0:03:44 > 0:03:46and became his main agent,

0:03:46 > 0:03:49commonly known in the fashion business as the mother agent.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53I think it was about an hour later, Michael phoned.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55He went, "Are you sitting down?" I went, "What's wrong?"

0:03:55 > 0:03:59He went, "GQ has come in for Connor and Alexander McQueen."

0:03:59 > 0:04:02I was still in the fifth year of high school.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Michael called me, my phone was ringing, so I had to, like,

0:04:05 > 0:04:06duck down and go on the phone,

0:04:06 > 0:04:09and Michael said, "OK, what are you doing right now?"

0:04:09 > 0:04:11"Yeah, I'm in Maths, doing a test."

0:04:11 > 0:04:13He's like, "OK, you have to tell your teacher

0:04:13 > 0:04:14"you need to go to London the now."

0:04:14 > 0:04:17I was like, "Miss..."

0:04:17 > 0:04:19"What is it, Connor?"

0:04:19 > 0:04:20"I need to go to London."

0:04:20 > 0:04:24He was in London the next day shooting his first editorial.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26So it blew up very quickly.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Connor quickly became known as the editorial king.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Editorials include magazine front covers

0:04:31 > 0:04:34and several pages of differing looks.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36Connor's first job

0:04:36 > 0:04:39was July 14th, and he booked GQ,

0:04:39 > 0:04:41which was amazing.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42They hadn't met him,

0:04:42 > 0:04:43they hadn't cast him.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46They just, based on two pictures, booked him on this.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49Michael came with me for the first time I went to Paris,

0:04:49 > 0:04:51which was a day shoot for Vogue Homme.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53He then booked Vogue Italia.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56He has now shot Vogue Italia three or four times.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58He's getting nine, ten covers.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01I did the cover of 10 Men,

0:05:01 > 0:05:03a cover of Varon,

0:05:03 > 0:05:05cover of L'Officiel,

0:05:05 > 0:05:07cover of Client, cover of Off Black.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10He was going to Paris, Milan, all over the place,

0:05:10 > 0:05:12shooting these editorials -

0:05:12 > 0:05:16all, you know, his first month of modelling, basically.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20I was walking in the Duomo Square in Milan

0:05:20 > 0:05:25and they've got, like, stalls, and they had magazines at the top,

0:05:25 > 0:05:27so it was like the best magazines of the month.

0:05:27 > 0:05:32It was, like, Ben Stiller for GQ, Leonardo Dicaprio for Men's Health,

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Rihanna for Vogue,

0:05:34 > 0:05:37Justin Bieber for GQ and then me for L'Officiel.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41So that was mind-blowing to see.

0:05:41 > 0:05:42When you're buying the magazines,

0:05:42 > 0:05:44people, like, are looking at you like,

0:05:44 > 0:05:46"Is this you?" I was like, "Yeah. It's me."

0:05:48 > 0:05:49These first two months

0:05:49 > 0:05:51of high-end editorials and covers

0:05:51 > 0:05:53propelled Connor onto the radar

0:05:53 > 0:05:55of agents around the world.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57Suddenly, the big guns started coming in

0:05:57 > 0:06:00and those where the agencies we wanted to work with.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03I see this kid with ears

0:06:03 > 0:06:07and just a super-interesting face,

0:06:07 > 0:06:09and it just really grabbed my attention.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11So I clicked on his photo

0:06:11 > 0:06:13and it was like, "Wow!"

0:06:13 > 0:06:15I rang Michael -

0:06:15 > 0:06:21as had several other agents in New York, I came to find out -

0:06:21 > 0:06:23and had a really good connection with Michael.

0:06:23 > 0:06:27I gave him my word that I would take care of him as one of my own.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31We are the mother agent, so we manage him and, you know,

0:06:31 > 0:06:33depending on how successful that model might be,

0:06:33 > 0:06:35they may have one or two agents.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38Connor has ten.

0:06:38 > 0:06:39The level of interest in Connor was

0:06:39 > 0:06:41unprecedented and soon he was being

0:06:41 > 0:06:44courted by the international fashion

0:06:44 > 0:06:46designers Dean and Dan Caten of the

0:06:46 > 0:06:48global brand Dsquared.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50I actually found him on Instagram.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53I said, "There's a really cool picture of this really cool kid."

0:06:53 > 0:06:55"Oh, wow, who's this?" And then I started going deeper,

0:06:55 > 0:06:58and then I actually remembered seeing him in some editorials

0:06:58 > 0:07:01in some British magazines that I liked.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03He has his own Connor catalogue.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05His own Connor catalogue for Dsquared.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07The reason that we chose him to actually shoot

0:07:07 > 0:07:10our classic collection is because the classic collection

0:07:10 > 0:07:12is quite tailored and quite proper

0:07:12 > 0:07:14and quite classic so, by using a face

0:07:14 > 0:07:17like his, it's something so interesting.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19It's a contrast.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21He's not the bad boy he looks like.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24- Yeah.- He's the sweetest boy in a bad boy face.

0:07:26 > 0:07:30He's very much a chameleon in front of the camera.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32He has an understanding,

0:07:32 > 0:07:34which is quite rare,

0:07:34 > 0:07:37especially with someone as young as he is,

0:07:37 > 0:07:39to be able to,

0:07:39 > 0:07:43you know, take the clothes and act,

0:07:43 > 0:07:44give them what they want.

0:07:44 > 0:07:49He's peculiar and fascinating to look at.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53And he photographs so well that, when you see a picture of him,

0:07:53 > 0:07:54you just stare at it.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56He's beautiful and ugly

0:07:56 > 0:07:58and crazy-looking,

0:07:58 > 0:08:01and angelic-looking.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03You want to maintain a certain modesty about

0:08:03 > 0:08:07what he's achieved because he hasn't really touched

0:08:07 > 0:08:11what he's capable of doing, which is very exciting.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Connor is adapting to this massive change in lifestyle,

0:08:14 > 0:08:16and so are his family in Govan,

0:08:16 > 0:08:20but there's still a fear about the bubble bursting.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22Doesn't really happen for anybody who comes fae this area.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24I never thought anything like that would happen

0:08:24 > 0:08:25because he's from Govan.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28Doesn't need much talent to become a model, I wouldn't think.

0:08:28 > 0:08:29If you've got looks,

0:08:29 > 0:08:32you know how stand in front of a camera, then fair enough.

0:08:32 > 0:08:36I don't look upon it as a...a career.

0:08:36 > 0:08:37Maybe I should.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I wouldn't like it to last five years and, all of a sudden, dumped.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42And then it'll be a case of, "Right, OK,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44"I need to go and start packing shelves in Asda."

0:08:44 > 0:08:46It's early 2017.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Connor is visiting his mother agent in Glasgow's West End

0:08:49 > 0:08:53with his mum Betty and sister Morgan to get the lowdown on what's ahead

0:08:53 > 0:08:55in the coming weeks.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56We have tomorrow,

0:08:56 > 0:08:59you're going to go to Madrid, OK?

0:08:59 > 0:09:01Four o'clock plane.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04You are shooting for GQ, their main summer story,

0:09:04 > 0:09:06and it's just you.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08You're an option on Monday to shoot Stone Island.

0:09:08 > 0:09:13That will be in London. There's one more brand and that is in New York.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19That's Andrew's wall and that's Connor's wall.

0:09:19 > 0:09:23This was...Armani.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Ralph Lauren shoot, so it was.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27This was Peacebird.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29There was an advert in New York

0:09:29 > 0:09:30for a Korean brand.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34That is Tim Walker's shoot, which I love.

0:09:34 > 0:09:35I think it's a brilliant shoot.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40Connor, you'd better go up and get packed for Madrid.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42- I will.- Now.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03- Hola.- Hola, buenas.

0:10:03 > 0:10:04First time in Madrid.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07I've been to Barcelona, Alicante, never Madrid.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10If it wasn't for my job, I wouldn't...

0:10:10 > 0:10:13I probably wouldn't have been to half of these countries.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Shot for GQ a lot of times, and I'm always excited for it.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19First time GQ Spain,

0:10:19 > 0:10:21so I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of clothes

0:10:21 > 0:10:23and what the story is about.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- Hi, how are you?- Ana.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Nice to meet you. Hiya. Nice to meet you.

0:10:28 > 0:10:29How are you?

0:10:29 > 0:10:32Hi, nice to meet you. Connor.

0:10:32 > 0:10:33This is Prada.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38Clothes you would never see in, like, stores and that,

0:10:38 > 0:10:40you get them here.

0:10:40 > 0:10:41So this would be...

0:10:44 > 0:10:461,000 euro.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50I'd probably get battered and they'd take it off me

0:10:50 > 0:10:51if I was in Govan.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56There's a good, like, 50 grand or something just in this room,

0:10:56 > 0:10:57on these racks.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59It's insane.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13It's going to be a long day, though.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26See, modelling's not a walk in the park, man.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Modelling's hard.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36It's now 10.20

0:12:36 > 0:12:39and we've been here since 11 this morning.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43It's been a long, long day.

0:12:43 > 0:12:44Tired, man.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46Towards the end of the GQ shoot,

0:12:46 > 0:12:49Connor gets a phone call from Michael back in Glasgow.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52It's news about a worldwide advertising campaign.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55This could be a massive opportunity for Connor.

0:12:58 > 0:12:59Stone Island?

0:13:05 > 0:13:07I booked the Stone Island campaign.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10I remember I couldn't even afford to buy Stone Island.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13Now I'm going to be on billboards in Times Square and Milan.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17It was a big, big surprise that I got it.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20# Aren't you something to admire

0:13:20 > 0:13:23# Cos you're shining somethin' like a mirror

0:13:23 > 0:13:24# And I can't help but notice

0:13:24 > 0:13:27# You're reflecting this heart of mine. #

0:13:30 > 0:13:34You know, it's a complete roll call of photographers

0:13:34 > 0:13:37that he's been, you know, incredibly lucky to work with.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39In 2016,

0:13:39 > 0:13:40Connor worked with Barcelona-based

0:13:40 > 0:13:43photographer Teddy Iborra Wicksteed

0:13:43 > 0:13:45for the Spanish magazine Metal.

0:13:46 > 0:13:48His look is absolutely...

0:13:49 > 0:13:50..timeless.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52My team and I were so, so, so confident

0:13:52 > 0:13:55of doing something so different with him.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Like...taking out

0:13:57 > 0:14:01of the green Scotland

0:14:01 > 0:14:04and taken into the deep Turkish sun.

0:14:04 > 0:14:05He knows he's different.

0:14:05 > 0:14:09I've kind of started to see what people are so interested in me now,

0:14:09 > 0:14:12but at first, like, I didn't.

0:14:12 > 0:14:14I just see myself as, like, a normal guy.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16People see things that

0:14:16 > 0:14:17I've never seen in my face.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19The cover picture was never supposed to be

0:14:19 > 0:14:23a cover, but when the editors saw the images, we got

0:14:23 > 0:14:2520 pages and two covers.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Connor has a few rare days off at home in Govan

0:14:32 > 0:14:34before his next shoot in New York.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36The lack of routine and structure in his life

0:14:36 > 0:14:40is completely different from his dad's work at the Govan shipyards.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42I think he could work harder at it.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45I think, over the last few months, he's got a wee bit complacent.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48He's got to take more care of his body, I've told him,

0:14:48 > 0:14:51go join a gymnasium and do these type of things,

0:14:51 > 0:14:55but sometimes he can be lying in his bed until 11 in the morning.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57I go across to the park with the dog and I train for an hour myself

0:14:57 > 0:14:59and I come home and get a shower, go to the football.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02I said to him, "You get up and come with me.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05"Come and just get out of the house, keep yourself active."

0:15:05 > 0:15:07I just don't think he's doing that enough, you know?

0:15:07 > 0:15:10I didn't realise he was going to be as big as he was.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14And that's... Again, that's my biggest fear,

0:15:14 > 0:15:16is that he's getting bigger and bigger and bigger,

0:15:16 > 0:15:19and I'm waiting till it gets to a peak and then it goes...

0:15:19 > 0:15:22How high can he go? What's it going to lead to?

0:15:22 > 0:15:26Connor doesn't realise... No' being big-headed or stuff like that,

0:15:26 > 0:15:28and he's no',

0:15:28 > 0:15:32but I've been trying to say to him, Michael said he's a public figure.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34So he's got to watch what he's doing,

0:15:34 > 0:15:36watch what he's saying, you know,

0:15:36 > 0:15:40and really take in, you know, what he is.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42Connor's work means that he now inhabits

0:15:42 > 0:15:44a different world from his friends

0:15:44 > 0:15:45and family, a world of celebrities,

0:15:45 > 0:15:48top fashion designers and photographers.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52His Glaswegian down-to-earth nature and lack of awareness of who many of

0:15:52 > 0:15:55the movers and shakers in the fashion world are

0:15:55 > 0:15:56is part of his charm.

0:15:56 > 0:15:59I was trying an outfit on and this old lady was just in the corner,

0:15:59 > 0:16:02I was talking to her, and she was just like relaxing, cos she looked

0:16:02 > 0:16:04so tired, and I said to her,

0:16:04 > 0:16:06"By the way, nice to meet you, I'm Connor."

0:16:06 > 0:16:08And she said, "Nice to meet you, I'm Vivienne Westwood."

0:16:08 > 0:16:11So I was like...kind of shell-shocked,

0:16:11 > 0:16:14I kind of froze for about 20 seconds, I was like...

0:16:14 > 0:16:15"All right, bye."

0:16:17 > 0:16:20I was at the Philipp Plein party in Milan,

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Busta Rhymes was there as well,

0:16:22 > 0:16:25and I know Busta Rhymes from when I was, like, a kid, like,

0:16:25 > 0:16:26his music and stuff like that.

0:16:26 > 0:16:31And I turned round, and just like... His eyes just locked on to me.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33He pushed his bodyguard out of the way,

0:16:33 > 0:16:35said, "Watch the room," and said...

0:16:35 > 0:16:36Told me to come here and said,

0:16:36 > 0:16:38"Put your head back and open your mouth."

0:16:38 > 0:16:39I was like, "What?"

0:16:39 > 0:16:41So I put my head back and opened my mouth

0:16:41 > 0:16:43and he poured champagne down my throat.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46Then I was like... He gave us a fist bump at the end of it,

0:16:46 > 0:16:48so I was happy with that.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51- Who is this guy?- Busta Rhymes. - Busta Rhymes.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53Busta Rhymes, who's he?

0:16:53 > 0:16:56See...Halloween, the one where they go into the house

0:16:56 > 0:16:57and he's got the cameras and that set up...

0:16:57 > 0:17:00- Your dad's not seen that. - No, never mind.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02He's an actor, rapper, rapper/actor.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04I'd like to go to New York, Los Angeles.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08And when he was in the restaurant, at the hotel,

0:17:08 > 0:17:10and sat and had dinner with Ringo Starr,

0:17:10 > 0:17:12- you know, I was like...- Aye.

0:17:12 > 0:17:13That'd be great, you know?

0:17:13 > 0:17:16I was in LA for the first time,

0:17:16 > 0:17:19so we went for dinner in the lobby of the hotel,

0:17:19 > 0:17:23and so I looked over, and it was Ringo Starr's birthday dinner,

0:17:23 > 0:17:26which was...mental, man,

0:17:26 > 0:17:28cos, like, I'm sitting having dinner next to one of the Beatles.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30In 2016,

0:17:30 > 0:17:31celebrity Paris Hilton came to see

0:17:31 > 0:17:35Connor in the Marcelo Burlon fashion show in Milan.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37She got a photo of me, and she was, like, so prepared,

0:17:37 > 0:17:39cos she was steaming, she, like, had the handbag

0:17:39 > 0:17:41and she took her sunglasses out,

0:17:41 > 0:17:44and took, like, a light and hold it under her face, she was like,

0:17:44 > 0:17:45"OK, go, I'm ready."

0:17:47 > 0:17:51And then she just turned round and smacked the lips on me.

0:17:52 > 0:17:53Aye.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55You know, he's working with all these amazing people,

0:17:55 > 0:17:57and for Connor's career,

0:17:57 > 0:17:59something like Instagram

0:17:59 > 0:18:01just may extend it further,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04it may give him four, five years more.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08We have to get the balance right between, you know,

0:18:08 > 0:18:12Connor enjoying his teenage years and being a normal kid,

0:18:12 > 0:18:14which he should absolutely be allowed to do,

0:18:14 > 0:18:17but also thinking about his career

0:18:17 > 0:18:19as a model and, yeah,

0:18:19 > 0:18:20of course that involves creating

0:18:20 > 0:18:22a brand, you know, Brand Connor,

0:18:22 > 0:18:27which does mean we have to think about things like his social media.

0:18:27 > 0:18:28It's all about finding a good balance,

0:18:28 > 0:18:30and I think we're all winging it.

0:18:30 > 0:18:34He met with Dan and Dean from Dsquared, had lunch with them,

0:18:34 > 0:18:36they flew him to Milan, he did a small job for them,

0:18:36 > 0:18:39they took him out to a restaurant.

0:18:39 > 0:18:40I said, "Where's the picture?"

0:18:40 > 0:18:42"Oh, I didn't get one." Like...

0:18:42 > 0:18:43"Are you mad?"

0:18:43 > 0:18:45He came to Milan, we did the fitting,

0:18:45 > 0:18:48then we have a restaurant on the roof of our building.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51It was just genuinely so much fun, such nice guys to work with,

0:18:51 > 0:18:53they're really funny.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55I was, like, drinking martinis and all that,

0:18:55 > 0:18:57and they're just really nice guys.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00They took me up to their private restaurant,

0:19:00 > 0:19:02the secret elevator, like,

0:19:02 > 0:19:04the back elevator so no-one can see them come in cos otherwise people

0:19:04 > 0:19:07would notice them, so, like, we sat in like a booth.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11It's a roof top and there's, like, two pools on each side,

0:19:11 > 0:19:12like, you could see the whole of Milan.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14I think we had a lot in common, too.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16- Weirdly enough.- In a strange way.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19Yeah, in a strange way, I think we have a lot in common, as characters.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22I mean, we came from very little and kind of made our career,

0:19:22 > 0:19:25not thinking everything's difficult.

0:19:25 > 0:19:29- Dreaming it.- Dreaming it, and so I've think he, in the same sense,

0:19:29 > 0:19:32you know, we feel that thing about becoming something that you always

0:19:32 > 0:19:34wanted to be or, you know, you dream of,

0:19:34 > 0:19:36and then it kind of comes true.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39I think that's happening for Connor. I think it happened for us.

0:19:41 > 0:19:45All of Connor's work so far has taken him away from home,

0:19:45 > 0:19:48travelling alone often to work with people he's never met before.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51Being away fae your family and that, like, months at a time,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54four months at a time,

0:19:54 > 0:19:57and I hardly even get to talk to them,

0:19:57 > 0:19:59that's hard and that, cos you miss them and, like,

0:19:59 > 0:20:03the more I travelled, I was getting kind of sick of it.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06I was getting quite annoyed cos I didn't like...

0:20:06 > 0:20:09I still don't like being away, but not as much.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12I mean, you're in a hotel, you don't speak the language.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15OK, you're there, you've checked into a hotel.

0:20:15 > 0:20:16It sounds very glamorous -

0:20:16 > 0:20:19room service, and this and that, and the other -

0:20:19 > 0:20:20but you're still there alone.

0:20:20 > 0:20:24You know, I've sometimes looked at his chart and thought,

0:20:24 > 0:20:26"OK, he shoots in Paris on Monday -

0:20:26 > 0:20:29"is there a flight at seven o'clock to Milan?"

0:20:29 > 0:20:32Because he's shooting there the next day.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35"And is there a flight at least at nine o'clock that night

0:20:35 > 0:20:37"to Germany, to Munich?

0:20:37 > 0:20:39"And then he has to be in New York on the Friday."

0:20:39 > 0:20:43And you also have to take into account...he's young.

0:20:43 > 0:20:46When you're jumping on planes, you know, six, seven times,

0:20:46 > 0:20:50not even a month, sometimes, you know, in the space of two weeks,

0:20:50 > 0:20:52it does have an effect.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59Managing Connor and his hectic schedule

0:20:59 > 0:21:03has become a collaboration between his agents and family.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05We formed Team Connor,

0:21:05 > 0:21:08so it would be me, Michael, obviously,

0:21:08 > 0:21:11from Model Team, and Betty at home,

0:21:11 > 0:21:14who would talk to each other constantly

0:21:14 > 0:21:18to make sure that Connor was doing everything he should be doing,

0:21:18 > 0:21:20everything was running smoothly,

0:21:20 > 0:21:23that he was happy and being taken care of.

0:21:23 > 0:21:26It was a lot of teamwork between the three of us.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29I'll always, like, phone Connor, and say, "Are you up?"

0:21:29 > 0:21:32"Oh, I'm in the shower." I say, "Right, fine," and I'm settled,

0:21:32 > 0:21:34and I know that he's on his way.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36You got to, kind of, keep pushing Connor.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38It's no' a glamorous job. I think a lot of people think,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41"Oh, you're just travelling about the world," but it's no' really.

0:21:41 > 0:21:45I mean, I think he sometimes may have felt I was more of a jailer...

0:21:47 > 0:21:49..than his mother agent, cos I would phone and say,

0:21:49 > 0:21:50"Go to your bed.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53"And, you know, I need someone at reception to let me know

0:21:53 > 0:21:55"that you're in your room, and you stay there."

0:21:55 > 0:21:58At times, Connor might think we're all moaning at him,

0:21:58 > 0:22:01but we're no' - we're just trying to keep him on the right road.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03It's the day before Connor travels to New York

0:22:03 > 0:22:05to shoot for the G-Star campaign,

0:22:05 > 0:22:09and his brother Andrew is home on leave from the Army.

0:22:09 > 0:22:11The only famous person to come out of Govan

0:22:11 > 0:22:13that I know is Alex Ferguson.

0:22:13 > 0:22:17Just needs to keep it up and don't take anything for granted.

0:22:17 > 0:22:18The last thing I want him to do is get there

0:22:18 > 0:22:21and then...he mucks it up.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23I've just got a job, straight from high school.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26I feel like I've not done any part of my life,

0:22:26 > 0:22:28I've not grafted like my da,

0:22:28 > 0:22:30my brother or anything, I've no' worked hard in my life.

0:22:30 > 0:22:32I just feel I've been given this job so...

0:22:32 > 0:22:36I feel like, I feel a bit, em...

0:22:36 > 0:22:38It's unfair, some of the time,

0:22:38 > 0:22:40cos I did rubbish in school.

0:22:40 > 0:22:43So...you know, I've just got one of the best jobs in the world.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46Somebody's actually recognised him and thought it was me.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48At, like, pubs and all that, they're like,

0:22:48 > 0:22:50"Oh, you're the...the model, aren't you?"

0:22:50 > 0:22:53"No, I'm the other one." They're like, "All right."

0:22:53 > 0:22:54Don't want to know me!

0:22:54 > 0:22:58But I feel like the Army has done a bit for me.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01It's a special job, it's something to be proud of,

0:23:01 > 0:23:03but then I'm going to leave it just to do a normal scaffolding job.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06I don't want to him to come out and just have a normal life.

0:23:06 > 0:23:08He's got a job doing something brilliant.

0:23:08 > 0:23:12Whenever I go to New York, I take his ID with me cos he's 21.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15- Do you?!- Yeah, I took your passport a couple of times.- Have you?!

0:23:16 > 0:23:18- I didnae know that!- I told...

0:23:18 > 0:23:22Well, I needed to get... I wasn't going there and not partying so...

0:23:22 > 0:23:25I took his passport because he's 21.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27- I didn't even know that!- Aye.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29I've took it a few times, just to go into pubs.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31I've got a decent few mates to hang about with there.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34Just wish somebody was coming with us cos it's better having company.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36I'd love to go to New York.

0:23:36 > 0:23:40It'd be brilliant. I think I was going to go one time,

0:23:40 > 0:23:41but I couldn't get time off.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Do you know when I'm coming back from New York?

0:23:44 > 0:23:51- ON PHONE:- Fly back...on Sunday, the 30th, which is a week on Sunday.

0:23:52 > 0:23:54Down to London, and you're supposed to be shooting

0:23:54 > 0:23:59a cover of a Korean magazine on the Monday or Tuesday,

0:23:59 > 0:24:01hopefully the Monday.

0:24:01 > 0:24:03And then you can come home Monday night,

0:24:03 > 0:24:05unless something else crops up in London.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08And I know Sarah's got a pile of castings for you in New York.

0:24:08 > 0:24:11So all is looking good.

0:24:11 > 0:24:16Don't take lots of clothes with you to New York, the weather's a bit...

0:24:16 > 0:24:19I think it's like 60, 70 degrees,

0:24:19 > 0:24:21check on your iPhone for next week.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23So it should be warmish.

0:24:23 > 0:24:24But take a raincoat, OK?

0:24:24 > 0:24:26- Aye, aye.- And an umbrella.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29- Take your Celtic umbrella. - Aye, so I will.- Perfect.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31That umbrella does not exist.

0:24:31 > 0:24:37- And get your maw's RainMate, you'll be fine.- Right!

0:24:37 > 0:24:38THEY LAUGH

0:24:38 > 0:24:42So have a safe flight and I'll speak to you later.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45- Right.- Take care.- Cheers, Michael. - Bye, son.- Bye-bye.- Bye.

0:25:00 > 0:25:01New York.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05Ever since the first day I came here, I've always stayed with Sarah.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08She's like my second mum because, like,

0:25:08 > 0:25:11I don't really stay with any of my agents anywhere else.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15I do have two sons, so he's smack in the middle

0:25:15 > 0:25:16with their...with the ages.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19Connor usually fits quite well

0:25:19 > 0:25:22on to one of my couches in the living room.

0:25:22 > 0:25:27He rolls up and it's like he never left.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29He's part of our family.

0:25:39 > 0:25:43The address is 465, West Broadway.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46We're in Brooklyn, now, which is

0:25:46 > 0:25:49where the apartment is that I stay.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51Connor's running late -

0:25:51 > 0:25:54his hair has to be taken back to its natural colour

0:25:54 > 0:25:55in the salon in Soho, Manhattan,

0:25:55 > 0:25:58then he has to head back to Brooklyn for a fitting.

0:26:14 > 0:26:15# In the mirror! #

0:26:15 > 0:26:18I never met Connor.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20I'd seen his pictures.

0:26:20 > 0:26:23We kind of just...thought he'd be so great.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26I'm glad you guys picked me. Thank you very much.

0:26:26 > 0:26:27- You're very welcome.- Thank you.

0:26:27 > 0:26:29Well, you look like you've been carved.

0:26:29 > 0:26:33You know, out of almost a piece of wood!

0:26:33 > 0:26:35With sparkle added.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46That's a tattoo for my mum. A Christmas present.

0:26:46 > 0:26:51It says "Always on my mind, forever in my heart," and "Mum".

0:26:55 > 0:26:58He's a grateful young man, he's very respectful,

0:26:58 > 0:27:00he's a good boy.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02He's on the wave now, he needs to ride the wave,

0:27:02 > 0:27:04and he needs to, like, boom, boom, boom,

0:27:04 > 0:27:07get it out and, like, push it, push it, push it.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10Connor's always said that he wants to get into acting,

0:27:10 > 0:27:12so that's his long-term goal.

0:27:12 > 0:27:17I would think that the directors in the UK...

0:27:18 > 0:27:21..in Hollywood, would just fall in love with him,

0:27:21 > 0:27:23as everyone else in our industry has.

0:27:23 > 0:27:27I'm pushing that, and I know Michael's pushing that as well.

0:27:27 > 0:27:28Connor is always going to be Connor.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31No, I don't think he'll let anything get to his head.
