0:00:02 > 0:00:04The Glamorgan coast, a natural treasure.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07A stone's throw from the urban sprawl of the Welsh capital.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Just on your doorstep, this is, like,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12five minutes down the road from where we live.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14A diverse coastline of dramatic cliffs...

0:00:14 > 0:00:17sandy beaches...

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and unique geological features.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21I couldn't think of any better place to be.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Throughout the summer, we followed the lives of people who live,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26work and play here.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31The Heritage Coastline is probably the best coastline in all of Wales

0:00:31 > 0:00:33- to fish on.- Fish of the day.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37- From Penarth...- Probably the only place in the world where you can go

0:00:37 > 0:00:39to the cinema on the beach.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42- ..to Ogmore.- The Vale has the coast, it has the country,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44it's got a bit of everything, really.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46You know, where else are you going to get that?

0:00:46 > 0:00:48This is their summer.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50These are their Coastal Lives.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02The rocky shores of the Glamorgan coast reel in

0:01:02 > 0:01:04fishing fanatics from all over the UK.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06The conditions look ideal today.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08It looks perfect.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12The beauty about the Glamorgan coast, fishing,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15because it's so varied from one end to the other.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17- Cuttlefish.- Very unusual.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Related to the squid.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23We have good summer fishing and in the winter we have some

0:01:23 > 0:01:25really good cod fishing as well.

0:01:25 > 0:01:30But lurking beneath these waters are some surprising predators and it's

0:01:30 > 0:01:34- feeding time.- This is what we use for bait - red crab, it is.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36LINE SPOOLS

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Nigel scores quickly.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43There he is, see him?

0:01:45 > 0:01:49He's reeled in one of Wales' very own sharks.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53It's a smooth hound, member of the shark family.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56We catch a lot of these, especially at this time of the year.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58This is the main species, right up until August, September.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02They're absolutely brilliant fish to catch because they're a good sport,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05so we'll put this one back now, I think. All right?

0:02:05 > 0:02:09With sport angling, the catch is quickly released.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Up the beach, Chris Reid and his son Jack...

0:02:15 > 0:02:16It's a smooth on, Jack.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19..have also got a bite.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Just watch the gullies.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23It's coming in now, look.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Quick, get his tail. Got him?

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Good boy.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29LAUGHTER

0:02:29 > 0:02:31- All right?- Stop wiggling!

0:02:32 > 0:02:34He's about six or seven pounds, I should imagine.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38You can't beat spending time with the kids on the beach, it's brilliant.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40It's better than being stuck in a cinema, anyway!

0:02:40 > 0:02:42- Yep.- Isn't it?

0:02:42 > 0:02:44- You going to put him back for me? - Yeah.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Go on, then.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49You just forget all your problems, all your worries, all the stress.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51You just chill out.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56I did it with my father and he's doing it with me.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00And my children will do it with me.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04With fishing in the Reid family's blood,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Jack is hoping to follow in his dad's footsteps.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09I want to be a fisherman when I grow up,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12and maybe a bit better than my dad.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14No chance!

0:03:15 > 0:03:19Before Chris worries about his son stealing his thunder,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22he's focused on beating his long-time rival, Steve Smith.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Although we are good friends, we are very competitive amongst ourselves.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27I think that's just the nature of

0:03:27 > 0:03:30match fishing, really.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32The two arch-rivals are going head-to-head

0:03:32 > 0:03:35in the Llantwit Major Charity Fishing Open.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Here he is, number two.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40We've had this thing going on for years, number one and number two.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Because we've done a lot of fishing together and we're always competing

0:03:43 > 0:03:46against each other. We're very competitive, the two of us.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48- Don't be daft!- Oh, that's me, sorry!

0:03:48 > 0:03:50My rod is over!

0:03:50 > 0:03:52And that's why he's number two.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59Charlotte Baldwin is busy at her day job.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02Tea's just come in now, he makes a nicer cup of tea than me, does Craig.

0:04:02 > 0:04:07- Don't you, Craig?- She's on tour with the Welsh Blood Service.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Do you have a young family?

0:04:09 > 0:04:14Two children? I've got two, Barney and Rosie, mine are.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17And her own babies hold a special place in Charlotte's heart.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20They're waiting for me at home with their dad now.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24I've bored everybody with my babies, Craig, so it's your turn, I'm sorry.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Ruined, they are. Absolutely loved to bits.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29SHE CHUCKLES

0:04:29 > 0:04:30Come on, good.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32When she isn't taking blood,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34you can find Charlotte on the Glamorgan coast,

0:04:34 > 0:04:37walking her babies with her friend, Bev.

0:04:37 > 0:04:38This is Rosie.

0:04:38 > 0:04:39BARKS

0:04:39 > 0:04:41This is Barney Rubble.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42BARKS

0:04:42 > 0:04:46But Charlotte isn't content with simply walking her own dogs.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51She recently organised an event in Barry that saw hundreds of people

0:04:51 > 0:04:54and their dachshunds turn up for walkies.

0:04:54 > 0:04:59And has a Facebook group with almost 3,000 members.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02I really wanted Bernie and Rosie socialised and being confident around

0:05:02 > 0:05:06other dogs and we used to go on another dog walk with other breeds of dogs

0:05:06 > 0:05:09and I found they weren't really enjoying it as much as I was enjoying the walks,

0:05:09 > 0:05:13so my husband suggested that I start up my own sausage dog walks

0:05:13 > 0:05:17and that's where South Wales Sausage Dog Walks were born.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19And it's just grown from there, really,

0:05:19 > 0:05:21it's turning into a bit of a monster.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24The walks have been so popular,

0:05:24 > 0:05:28Charlotte is now planning a charity fundraiser with a doggie fun day at

0:05:28 > 0:05:32- Ogmore beach.- I don't think the work has really started yet,

0:05:32 > 0:05:34until I actually announce a date.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36That's when the work starts, I think.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40I've got about 12 weeks to get it all sorted.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42This way!

0:05:42 > 0:05:44This way, good boy.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Come on, Morty! Come on!

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Oh, he's lovely, isn't he?

0:05:50 > 0:05:54Up the coast from Barry, is the booming seaside town of Penarth.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56- It's really cold today.- It is cold today.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00- Come on, George.- Married couple Andy Bradshaw and Peter Knowles received

0:06:00 > 0:06:05the town's first Outstanding Citizens award for their community spirit.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07They run a cafe and two gift shops.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13- I suppose we always say it's a... - Celebration of coastal living.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20How are you, John? Nice to see you.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24We've met so many amazing people who come in as customers and who've

0:06:24 > 0:06:28become friends and who, we almost feel, are now part of our family.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32There is wife, wife, beautiful wife, amazing wife.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36Any of these...fitting the category?

0:06:36 > 0:06:39Today, Andy and Peter are meeting the council to discuss their entry

0:06:39 > 0:06:42for Penarth's very own wacky races.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45Just to let you know, then, there are obstacles there, so...

0:06:45 > 0:06:46Oh, yeah, yeah, we know.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49So it starts off with the chicane, then...

0:06:49 > 0:06:51We go over that with ours.

0:06:51 > 0:06:52We don't need that for ours.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Have you seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

0:06:55 > 0:06:57LAUGHTER

0:06:57 > 0:06:59Having formed a plan for their go-kart,

0:06:59 > 0:07:02they're trying to recruit Andy's 89-year-old mum.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05We're entering the downhill derby this year.

0:07:05 > 0:07:06Oh, it's my forte!

0:07:06 > 0:07:08We're looking for a driver.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10Can I think?

0:07:10 > 0:07:13But whoever is driving, they need to get the wheels in motion.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18We'll be judged on speed and also on look.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20I've got a glue gun.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22I've got a staple gun.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25What else do you need?

0:07:25 > 0:07:27They need a secret weapon.

0:07:27 > 0:07:28GRINDING

0:07:28 > 0:07:30And they've got one!

0:07:31 > 0:07:34Colin can make anything.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Colin - I call Doctor Death simply because he is the man that makes

0:07:38 > 0:07:42everything that maims or kills people on Casualty.

0:07:45 > 0:07:47And for the past week,

0:07:47 > 0:07:49Colin has been busy making the chassis for the cart.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52Good morning. Oh, my God.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54God, Colin, that's incredible.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56I didn't expect it to be as impressive as this.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59If you sort of slide in from the back and maybe turn the steering,

0:07:59 > 0:08:02- look...- But at six foot, four.

0:08:02 > 0:08:03Will Andy fit?

0:08:03 > 0:08:05There you go, that's it.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08The legs, they're so long.

0:08:08 > 0:08:09It's absolutely spectacular.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11It's not what I was expecting at all.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14I mean, it's... I should've known, from Colin, to be honest,

0:08:14 > 0:08:17that it was going to be hugely sophisticated.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20It wasn't just going to be a couple of old tyres and a bungee cord.

0:08:20 > 0:08:21None of this is welded yet.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Keep my elbows in on this, I reckon.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28Time for a test drive.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30That's really good.

0:08:30 > 0:08:31That's fantastic.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Really good. Here we come. Whoa!

0:08:34 > 0:08:35SCRAPING

0:08:35 > 0:08:36What was that?

0:08:36 > 0:08:38That was that bit of wood, I think.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41- Oh, yeah.- It's quite sensitive, isn't it?- Yes.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43In a good way, in a good way.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51Down at the seafront are local YouTube stars Craig and Aimee.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56We are in Penarth today. Absolutely love Penarth, it's like the posh bit.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58We're running, we're running!

0:08:58 > 0:09:01The couple have travelled the world filming their experiences and have

0:09:01 > 0:09:04made a big name for themselves online.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07And there's no signs of stopping!

0:09:07 > 0:09:09- Hello, Japan!- Welcome to LA.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Welcome to San Francisco.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14They are back for summer, creating videos of their home county.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16I've been getting up with the sunrises.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19The last one, I got up here, for four o'clock in the morning.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24And it was a beauty. It's just a wicked way to start the day.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28But this morning, Aimee is working on a different kind of image.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33So I know what I want.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35- Fantastic.- This little guy.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38- OK.- But I'd like him in red.

0:09:38 > 0:09:39She's decided to follow Craig with a

0:09:39 > 0:09:42new tattoo featuring their online logo.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48So now I've got it, it's time for Aimee to get hers, isn't it?

0:09:48 > 0:09:52- You got to get branded.- The crown logo is much more than just a

0:09:52 > 0:09:55- pretty picture.- So kinging it is like our philosophy on life,

0:09:55 > 0:09:57it's the way we kind of live our lives.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00We're kind of, like, be your own boss, do what you want to do,

0:10:00 > 0:10:02let nobody dictate you, you know, just go for it.

0:10:02 > 0:10:08- Morning!- What's going to be the pain threshold from 1-10, do you reckon?

0:10:08 > 0:10:10I'm going to say 9.5.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14- Really?- The couple have an infectious love of life.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17But it's a wonder either of them are here at all.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19I kind of met Craig at his leaving do,

0:10:19 > 0:10:22because he was leaving to travel the world and I was actually going

0:10:22 > 0:10:27through treatment, chemotherapy, because I had cancer at the time,

0:10:27 > 0:10:29which was called Hodgkin's lymphoma.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34And he said to me, whenever you get the all clear,

0:10:34 > 0:10:37come out and meet me wherever I am in the world,

0:10:37 > 0:10:39which happened to be Australia.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42At the time, I was just, like, "Am I going to die?"

0:10:42 > 0:10:44I was, like, 18, and I was just, like,

0:10:44 > 0:10:47how on earth is this happening to me?

0:10:47 > 0:10:51I got the all-clear after about eight months treatment and then me

0:10:51 > 0:10:55and my friend flew out to meet Craig and his friend and we travelled the east coast together

0:10:55 > 0:10:58for four weeks, which was amazing, wasn't it?

0:10:59 > 0:11:01It came at the best time,

0:11:01 > 0:11:05because I put Craig first and love first and then cancer came behind.

0:11:05 > 0:11:06It was just sort of...

0:11:06 > 0:11:08an annoyance.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12Love has definitely pulled me through the bad times, 100%.

0:11:12 > 0:11:18Yeah, it wasn't even a bad time to me because I was super-happy and in love!

0:11:18 > 0:11:21But Aimee's cancer wasn't the only medical setback during their

0:11:21 > 0:11:23blossoming romance.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26Just a week after Aimee returned home,

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Craig had a serious accident in New Zealand.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32I was doing back flips and then I mistimed one,

0:11:32 > 0:11:34landed on the top of my head,

0:11:34 > 0:11:39my face touched my chest and when I came round, I was, like...

0:11:39 > 0:11:43knocked myself out for a split second and I couldn't move my right arm.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45So when I came round, I was, like, "I've broken my arm."

0:11:45 > 0:11:48And everyone was, like, "You didn't land on your arm."

0:11:48 > 0:11:51So the ambulance came, rushed me the hospital and doctor came out and

0:11:51 > 0:11:53he was, like, "You've broken your neck."

0:11:54 > 0:11:58One millimetre either way and I could have either died instantly or been in wheelchair,

0:11:58 > 0:12:01like, a paraplegic from the neck down.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04So she literally left me for a week and then I broke my neck.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06I know, can't leave him nowhere.

0:12:07 > 0:12:12Having survived so much at such a young age, Craig and Aimee's mantra,

0:12:12 > 0:12:15kinging it, really is one they are living to the full.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19And now she has a permanent reminder of their philosophy.

0:12:19 > 0:12:20I got the tattoo!

0:12:20 > 0:12:22I've got it, it's done, I love it.

0:12:22 > 0:12:23She's done such a good job!

0:12:30 > 0:12:34Back in Colin's workshop, and the cart is really taking shape.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36It'll be a lot more yellows and oranges,

0:12:36 > 0:12:39and the feet will get repainted, so they're a bit more flesh-coloured,

0:12:39 > 0:12:43but I want the toes to look like they are a bit burnt, sunburnt.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47Andy's ambitious design has him up to his neck in sand.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Somebody was in the cafe and they came up and said,

0:12:50 > 0:12:52"Oh, you have got life insurance, haven't you?"

0:12:52 > 0:12:54That's fine.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56But Colin has faith.

0:12:56 > 0:12:58I think it'll make it absolutely no problem at all.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00I've every confidence.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02That's what I'm delighted to hear!

0:13:02 > 0:13:04When the court case comes along...

0:13:04 > 0:13:06You'll use that as evidence!

0:13:07 > 0:13:09That's quite comfy, isn't it?

0:13:10 > 0:13:13Yeah, I can see between the feet, so that's perfect.

0:13:13 > 0:13:15- OK, good.- Hard lock now.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17There we go.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19- Brakes!- Look at those feet.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22I'm quite impressed, actually, you're keeping pretty straight.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26That's because I've got wing mirrors on the backs of these feet, Colin.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28Ramming speed now, Colin.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31That is so good!

0:13:32 > 0:13:35Oh, steering is really good, isn't it?

0:13:35 > 0:13:38Good grief, there is a crab in the lane.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41I've had hedgehogs before now, but never crabs.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45It's exceptional, I would say.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47Beep, beep, beep, vehicle reversing.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01With the fishing competition looming,

0:14:01 > 0:14:06serious match angler Steve is preparing his weapon for battle.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- All right, Steve?- How are you?- Yeah, not too bad, yourself?

0:14:09 > 0:14:12- Yeah.- And Steve knows the importance of good equipment to get ahead.

0:14:12 > 0:14:16I've had them serviced, but they're getting old now and it's always nice

0:14:16 > 0:14:17to have new tackle.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19LAUGHTER

0:14:19 > 0:14:22As he gets to grips with his new kit, Steve's main opponent, Chris,

0:14:22 > 0:14:24is stockpiling.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26All the various baits I've got.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29Basically, the fishing has taken over the house.

0:14:29 > 0:14:30Fridges, freezers.

0:14:30 > 0:14:35We've even got rods in the bedroom, because there is no room.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37Swivels can move, yeah?

0:14:37 > 0:14:40Chris is one of the world's best anglers and he's recently won the

0:14:40 > 0:14:44UK's biggest fishing competition for the second year in a row.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48I do say to my friends that he is a famous fisherman.

0:14:50 > 0:14:54The competition Chris has won is quite a prestigious competition, it's...

0:14:54 > 0:14:55Other than winning

0:14:55 > 0:14:58the World Championships, I suppose, it's as big as it gets really.

0:14:58 > 0:15:01It's quite frustrating. See if I was a footballer,

0:15:01 > 0:15:04I'd be a multimillionaire, but...

0:15:04 > 0:15:07Or a rugby player.

0:15:07 > 0:15:11He used to be a rugby player, but then he stopped and became a fisherman.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14- I did.- Why did you stop being a rugby player?

0:15:14 > 0:15:18Cos fishing doesn't hurt as much as playing rugby.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20I think he's the first guy ever to win it two consecutive years.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23Good going, isn't it? So he's the man to beat at Llantwit.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25He is the man to beat at Llantwit.

0:15:25 > 0:15:29If he does win, he'll rub it in my dad's face and he won't forget.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32And then he'll go, "I'm number one and you're number two for once."

0:15:34 > 0:15:36It's a big moment for Charlotte.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39Are we ready to do this walk today?

0:15:39 > 0:15:43She's announcing the date of her sausage dog walk to 3,000 friends

0:15:43 > 0:15:45on Facebook.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Ready, Barn? Ready, Rosie?

0:15:47 > 0:15:51Go. "Charlotte Baldwin created a private event for

0:15:51 > 0:15:53"Sausage Dog Walk South Wales UK."

0:15:54 > 0:15:56This is so exciting.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00Frank and Ralph from Barry will be there.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02They've got their raincoats on.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04Somebody's coming from Kent with their two.

0:16:04 > 0:16:08Joy and owner will be going - from Scotland.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10His little tartan dickie bow on!

0:16:11 > 0:16:13I thought I'd made all my friends in life,

0:16:13 > 0:16:16but this is just going to show me that you're making friends all the

0:16:16 > 0:16:19time and these people that I meet are really, really special.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22They've got the same interests as me.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25They rush home for the same reason that I rush home every day.

0:16:25 > 0:16:26Really nice.

0:16:28 > 0:16:29Oh!

0:16:32 > 0:16:36It's the day of the Llantwit Major fishing competition.

0:16:36 > 0:16:40And it's finally time to find out who is number one and who is number two.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45They can compete anywhere within a five-mile stretch,

0:16:45 > 0:16:50but Chris and Steve have opted to fish on the rocky beach near Aberthaw Power Station.

0:16:50 > 0:16:56I'm expecting a few smooth hounds today, possibly a tidy conger eel.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59This part of the coast promises a great catch.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02Where the power station throws the warm water out,

0:17:02 > 0:17:05it encourages all the small prawns et cetera.

0:17:05 > 0:17:07And that's just basically the start of the food chain.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10And then the bigger fish, like the smooth hounds,

0:17:10 > 0:17:12they all come into the area to feed.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14They can go to about five foot in length,

0:17:14 > 0:17:17if we can get three or four of them today, you'll be doing really well,

0:17:17 > 0:17:19I think.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23The sea temperature might encourage big fish,

0:17:23 > 0:17:26but the weather on the land is hardly summery.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28As you can see, it's raining today,

0:17:28 > 0:17:30and of all the days to leave my coat home,

0:17:30 > 0:17:31it's today.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33So I think I'm going to get wet.

0:17:36 > 0:17:37Puts people off, but not the fish.

0:17:39 > 0:17:40And it's first blood...

0:17:40 > 0:17:42That's a pouting.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45- ..to Chris.- It was...

0:17:45 > 0:17:47Oh, are you having a laugh?

0:17:47 > 0:17:48It's gone now.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51Oh, never! Ain't getting that out of there.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54While Chris scrabbles amongst the rocks...

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- I caught a fish.- ..Steve is on the scorecard.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59Just caught a small pouting.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02The minimum size for a pouting is 20cm.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06And we've got...22cm.

0:18:06 > 0:18:07It beats a blank, as they say.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11This is better. Smooth hound, I think.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13Unfortunately for Chris...

0:18:13 > 0:18:15That's a little bit better.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18..it's not a five-foot smooth hound, but a big catch all the same.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21That's a conger eel, that is.

0:18:21 > 0:18:25Before they release them, they weigh and measure their catch.

0:18:25 > 0:18:30230. These grow in excess of 100lbs out on the wrecks.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33- Another pouting.- There are monsters out there,

0:18:33 > 0:18:35but the boys aren't finding them.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Normal people are down at the pub on a Sunday afternoon.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43And just when Chris couldn't get any wetter.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48I am not enjoying this.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55Heading West to Ogmore...

0:18:55 > 0:18:58it's finally the day of Charlotte's sausage dog walk and the area is

0:18:58 > 0:19:01engulfed with the pitter-patter of tiny paws.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05Very busy here today.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07I didn't expect this many people here.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11And they've come from far and wide.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14We came down yesterday from Cheshire, so...

0:19:14 > 0:19:17I'm from Canada, I've come here especially for this walk.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19We've all come down from Scotland.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21We took about six hours to get here yesterday

0:19:21 > 0:19:24and about four hours to get here today.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26SHE CHUCKLES

0:19:26 > 0:19:30This is my little dog, Schnitzel von Krum, with the very low tum.

0:19:30 > 0:19:34Jackie and Schnitzel have come all the way from...Abertillery.

0:19:34 > 0:19:37Sausage dog owners are very nutty, I would say.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39We are obsessed by them.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41If we see another one in the street,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44we must run up and touch them and pet them.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48It's like an illness. I mean, you get the bags, the outfits,

0:19:48 > 0:19:52the dogs and you get everything and you can tell us apart from anybody else.

0:19:52 > 0:19:57Time for Charlotte to get the show on the road with the doggy fancy dress.

0:19:57 > 0:20:01Anybody who is entering the fancy dress competition,

0:20:01 > 0:20:04it's £1 per dog to enter.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07Husband John is dressing Barney and Rosie.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11I'm just getting ready for this competition now.

0:20:11 > 0:20:12He's going to be

0:20:12 > 0:20:14a Welsh dragon.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21She's going to be a little daffodil.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23BARKS

0:20:24 > 0:20:26They've made a lot of effort, haven't they?

0:20:26 > 0:20:28They really have made a lot of effort,

0:20:28 > 0:20:31- haven't they?- Yeah.- Every owner thinks their dog is the best,

0:20:31 > 0:20:35but the winners this time are dressed as Olympic Team GB.

0:20:35 > 0:20:39Second is apparently a better-dressed dragon than Barney,

0:20:39 > 0:20:41and proving it was worth the journey...

0:20:41 > 0:20:43The Scottish in their kilts!

0:20:43 > 0:20:45It's all fun and games until...

0:20:45 > 0:20:47THUNDER RUMBLES

0:20:48 > 0:20:50..the heavens open...

0:20:51 > 0:20:54..and the walk could be over before it's begun.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58It's just coming down terrible now and this makes it virtually

0:20:58 > 0:20:59impossible to do anything.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03Everyone's running for cover now.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08All the work she has put into this now, washed away.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Back down the coast and the fishing competition is over.

0:21:16 > 0:21:17This is horrible.

0:21:19 > 0:21:21And the weather is not the only let-down.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24A little bit disappointed the way today went, but then,

0:21:24 > 0:21:26you know, conditions weren't good.

0:21:26 > 0:21:31- What can you do?- It's not been a good day and even the combined

0:21:31 > 0:21:33weight of Steve's catch can't keep him in the running.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36Should have had three, but I had two.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38LAUGHTER

0:21:38 > 0:21:42The next would be superstar Chris Reid...

0:21:42 > 0:21:45But Chris's conger eel helps push him into sixth place.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48Pouting, conger and two codling.

0:21:48 > 0:21:49APPLAUSE

0:21:52 > 0:21:53More importantly,

0:21:53 > 0:21:57he retains his number-one title against his biggest rival.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59I need to step up a gear, I think!

0:21:59 > 0:22:01No, he's doing really well at the moment, in all fairness,

0:22:01 > 0:22:05and anyone will tell you that. He's on fire.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06He seems to be, I don't know,

0:22:06 > 0:22:08- doing really well. - Say that again.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10No.

0:22:10 > 0:22:11LAUGHTER

0:22:14 > 0:22:16Back in Ogmore,

0:22:16 > 0:22:20the skies have cleared and it's time to get the walk under way.

0:22:20 > 0:22:25Sausage Dog Walk South Wales UK, let's do one of our best walks yet.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27Go! Yay!

0:22:30 > 0:22:37Come on, Barney. Seeing them all out now is incredible.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40I wouldn't be surprised if there are 500 dogs here, maybe.

0:22:40 > 0:22:44I'm just thrilled to bits to see these dogs all together and they've

0:22:44 > 0:22:45been waiting for this all day.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50As well as organising the event,

0:22:50 > 0:22:54Charlotte has been busy fundraising for some special dog buggies.

0:22:54 > 0:22:58One in five dachshunds end up with intervertebral disease,

0:22:58 > 0:23:02which is a bit like in humans where you get a bulging disc,

0:23:02 > 0:23:06and it presses on the spinal cord and they end up paralysed.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09So there's a few here today and we've managed, so far, to raise

0:23:09 > 0:23:12enough money for six of these.

0:23:12 > 0:23:18They donated the buggy to Darcy, who's got a bad back, and we just

0:23:18 > 0:23:20wanted to come and say thank you in person.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23'It's amazing. People are coming up and wrapping their arms around me

0:23:23 > 0:23:25'and kissing me and telling me how wonderful I am.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27'And to me, I'm just me.'

0:23:27 > 0:23:30I'm just taking this opportunity to be able to raise money to help

0:23:30 > 0:23:33families who are unfortunate enough for their dogs to have suffered this

0:23:33 > 0:23:35horrendous illness.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37We're definitely coming again.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40She's loved it and she's loved it and we've loved it.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43Hundreds of sausage dogs on a wet, Welsh beach,

0:23:43 > 0:23:46but Charlotte's now got even bigger plans.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49Onward and upwards for next year and I'm sure we'll break the world record,

0:23:49 > 0:23:52with as many dachshunds as we can get on that beach.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58BARKS

0:24:00 > 0:24:02Do you know what you're doing, before you do it?

0:24:02 > 0:24:04- I'm gluing this in.- I've done that.

0:24:04 > 0:24:10- Oh, OK.- It's the day before the downhill derby and Peter and Andy are hard

0:24:10 > 0:24:13- at work.- As part of the safety regulations,

0:24:13 > 0:24:18we have to wear cycle helmets, so Andy has designed this alternative,

0:24:18 > 0:24:20which is the cycle helmet,

0:24:20 > 0:24:22which is basically going to be a knotted handkerchief.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25The thing with the seagull is, of course,

0:24:25 > 0:24:27once it starts flapping the wings, it gives a bit of speed.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30- Absolutely.- Another secret weapon.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33But they have to put their plans for the derby to one side.

0:24:34 > 0:24:38It's a very important night for Hamptons.

0:24:38 > 0:24:43It's our 11th birthday party, so we always host a birthday event.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46Star of the show is Samantha Link.

0:24:46 > 0:24:47I thought it was me!

0:24:48 > 0:24:51- Oh, you're the star, are you?- Well, that's what you told me!

0:24:51 > 0:24:53You said I was...

0:24:53 > 0:24:56You are A star, not THE star.

0:24:56 > 0:25:00- There is a difference.- Tonight, Andy is reconnecting with the past.

0:25:00 > 0:25:02This is part of my old life, I suppose you'd say.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07Don't get scared, because that looks very worrying when you say that.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09"What the hell did he used to do?"

0:25:09 > 0:25:11I used to work as a puppeteer.

0:25:11 > 0:25:16After 40 years in theatre and telly, it's time to resurrect his alter ego.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18This is Dolores.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21# La-la-la-la-la-la-laaaa... #

0:25:21 > 0:25:25She sings, basically, so she lip syncs to various things.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28# La-la-la-la-la-la-laaa... #

0:25:29 > 0:25:31Her voice is better than that.

0:25:31 > 0:25:32Mine is rubbish!

0:25:37 > 0:25:40In order to keep their travel dreams alive,

0:25:40 > 0:25:43online vloggers Craig and Aimee need hits.

0:25:43 > 0:25:44So to get their views up,

0:25:44 > 0:25:48they've come down to the beach for some quick turnaround filming.

0:25:48 > 0:25:50So today we are in our home town of Barry,

0:25:50 > 0:25:52and it's the Isle of Fire Festival.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55- Yeah.- So the plan is to shoot this thing,

0:25:55 > 0:25:58edit this thing and then put it up online tonight,

0:25:58 > 0:26:00so that it gets loads of shares.

0:26:00 > 0:26:04Video blogging is big business and the pair are already becoming

0:26:04 > 0:26:07- celebrities.- Do you want a picture?

0:26:07 > 0:26:09- Do you mind?- No!- Thank you.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11- Do you want me in it?- Yes, please.

0:26:11 > 0:26:15The world's top vloggers can become multimillionaires, so a manic few

0:26:15 > 0:26:17hours filming is well worth the effort.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29Aimee and I just film our lives and then we fill the drone shots in and

0:26:29 > 0:26:31people are, like, "Whoa, that's amazing!"

0:26:35 > 0:26:36And I've pressed record, yes!

0:26:38 > 0:26:41The clips are uploaded and, within a day,

0:26:41 > 0:26:44reach 30,000 hits for Glamorgan's wonderful coastline.

0:26:50 > 0:26:52Back at Hamptons,

0:26:52 > 0:26:56Penarth's Outstanding Citizens Peter and Andy are getting the show on the road.

0:26:56 > 0:27:00Tonight is slightly different from our normal music and dinner

0:27:00 > 0:27:03because it's our birthday, so there will be a few surprises.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07The biggest of which is Andy.

0:27:07 > 0:27:11Time to reveal tonight's star, Deloris Van Cartier.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14# Built to be dressed to the 99s

0:27:14 > 0:27:17# And ready to sing and say

0:27:17 > 0:27:19# Hey, look at me

0:27:19 > 0:27:21# Can't you see?

0:27:21 > 0:27:23# I'm fabulous, baby... #

0:27:23 > 0:27:25Andy is fab when he does Dolores.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27It was really good.

0:27:27 > 0:27:29I've always been proud of him.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31I was proud at the moment he was born.

0:27:33 > 0:27:36And I would say that, wouldn't I, cos I'm a mother?

0:27:36 > 0:27:39After a busy day in the office,

0:27:39 > 0:27:43frenzied downhill derby preparations, and an evening of celebration,

0:27:43 > 0:27:47Penarth's fabulous duo have put on a night to remember.

0:27:47 > 0:27:51They do so much work for the whole of Penarth.

0:27:51 > 0:27:54They weren't the first Outstanding Citizens of Penarth for nothing.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58CONTINUES SINGING

0:28:02 > 0:28:04CHEERING
