:00:00. > :00:08.about the remarkable story of her life.

:00:09. > :00:21.This is a story about a girl. She came from nowhere. And she became

:00:22. > :00:24.Pakistan's social media superstar. Happy Valentine's Day. Her name was

:00:25. > :00:35.Qandeel Baloch. Her highly provocative videos

:00:36. > :00:46.shocked many in Pakistan. But brought her fame. On the 15th of

:00:47. > :00:54.July, 2016... Qandeel was killed by her brother, because in his eyes,

:00:55. > :00:56.she had brought shame on the family. Her parents want justice for their

:00:57. > :01:14.daughter. Nearly 1000 women are killed in

:01:15. > :01:25.Pakistan every year in the name of honour. Like Qandeel, I am a young

:01:26. > :01:27.Pakistani woman. Does her life and death change anything for women in

:01:28. > :01:52.my country? This village in rural Punjab is

:01:53. > :02:01.where Qandeel's story begins. Driving through the streets, I can't

:02:02. > :02:08.imagine the name Qandeel we knew living here. Here, women stay at

:02:09. > :02:15.home and are rarely seen. This is the house where she grew up.

:02:16. > :02:23.Muhammad Azeem, her father, was a farmer. And her mother, and while it

:02:24. > :02:34.is in -- Anwar Azeem, a Hasluck. She had six brothers and two sisters. --

:02:35. > :03:00.housebuyer. -- house wife. She spent her childhood inside this room.

:03:01. > :03:07.It was not long after this photo was taken that, in keeping with local

:03:08. > :03:13.tradition, Qandeel was married. But her marriage only lasted a year. As

:03:14. > :03:18.I looked around, I try to imagine the courage it took to leave this

:03:19. > :03:25.place, taking those first rave steps knowing you were breaking every

:03:26. > :03:31.social norm and taboo -- brave. After her divorce in 2007, Qandeel

:03:32. > :03:35.settled in Multan, a city couple of hours drive from the village,

:03:36. > :03:37.working as a hostess for a bus company, and then in marketing for a

:03:38. > :03:43.multinational. MUSIC PLAYS

:03:44. > :03:48.It was also around this time that Qandeel started making videos for

:03:49. > :03:52.social media. For Pakistan, the videos were provocative and daring.

:03:53. > :03:57.But her dream was to make it into the mainstream. Like so many other

:03:58. > :04:05.girls, trying to break into the scene, the reality was anything but

:04:06. > :04:11.glamorous. To earn money, Qandeel was probably working as an escort.

:04:12. > :04:17.The money supported her family, and she could afford to move her parents

:04:18. > :04:25.to Multan. Her parents wanted to show me the house in which she was

:04:26. > :04:27.murdered. This is a lawyer from the village, and he is helping them for

:04:28. > :04:56.free. On the night of the murder,

:04:57. > :05:02.Qandeel's younger brother was seen driving from the village to Multan,

:05:03. > :05:06.allegedly with two compasses. After the family meal, he mixed sleeping

:05:07. > :05:10.pills with milk, which the whole family join. He waited for the pills

:05:11. > :05:15.to kick in, and when his parents went to bed, he pledged his alleged

:05:16. > :05:17.accomplice, and together they entered Qandeel's room, and killed

:05:18. > :06:09.her. Multan police are investigating

:06:10. > :06:12.Qandeel's murder. This is the police officer leading the investigation.

:06:13. > :06:14.She was one of the first people at the crime scene, and accompanied the

:06:15. > :07:51.body to the mob. -- morgue. A few years before her death, and as

:07:52. > :07:55.her ambition grew, net left Multan for Karachi, and during the height

:07:56. > :08:07.of Pakistan's entertainment industry. Her appearance on Pakistan

:08:08. > :08:15.Idol thrust her into the limelight. Even though she did not win, she was

:08:16. > :08:17.an instant hit. She became a regular on national television, promoting

:08:18. > :08:33.her brand. It was on one chat show she met a

:08:34. > :08:40.well-known celebrity cleric who was also from Multan. The two floated on

:08:41. > :08:42.camera. The mufti suggested that they meet next time he was in

:08:43. > :09:02.Karachi. A few weeks later, during the holy

:09:03. > :09:08.month of Ramadan, Qandeel Baloch met the mufti in a hotel in Karachi. It

:09:09. > :09:17.was during this meeting that she took a number of Sophie 's -- them.

:09:18. > :09:24.In one, she was wearing the mufti's out. This one in particular caused a

:09:25. > :09:30.media storm -- hat. It spread like wildfire. Soon she and the mufti

:09:31. > :09:34.were everywhere. In the fallout, the mufti was suspended from his job

:09:35. > :09:37.with Pakistan's religious council. For her brother, Waseem, the media

:09:38. > :09:52.intrusion was the final straw. But why were those selfies with the

:09:53. > :10:29.mufti so controversial? A month after the selfies appeared,

:10:30. > :10:36.Qandeel was killed. How much did the photos with the mufti contribute to

:10:37. > :10:45.her murder? I went to meet him at his new address in Multan. Make sure

:10:46. > :10:49.I look decent -- segment. He comes from a family of clerics who have

:10:50. > :10:53.lived in the city for generations -- madrasa. To the locals, he is a

:10:54. > :11:26.revered and respected religious scholar.

:11:27. > :11:36.The fact that Abdul Oavi was related to the man who allegedly drew her

:11:37. > :11:47.brother to the murder scene was drawing a lot of attention.

:11:48. > :11:53.Mufti Oavi wanted to make it clear that anyone who disrespected the

:11:54. > :11:55.clergy in Pakistan as Qandeel had done could face serious

:11:56. > :12:35.consequences. Nothing Mufti Abdul Qavi said really

:12:36. > :12:44.surprised me. He said that he had nothing to do with Qandeel's murder.

:12:45. > :12:52.For him, it was an act of God. 1000 women die each year from honour

:12:53. > :12:56.crimes here in Pakistan. A bill being debated in Parliament is

:12:57. > :13:00.looking to put an end to honour crimes once and for all. It will

:13:01. > :13:45.take away the rights of the family to forgive the killer.

:13:46. > :13:53.I wanted to talk to Qandeel's father about her concerns. Today he will

:13:54. > :13:58.testify in a bail hearing of two of the alleged accomplices, the driver

:13:59. > :14:06.and the man it was claimed helped planet. He hasn't visited his son

:14:07. > :14:54.Waseem in jail, but some relatives have.

:14:55. > :14:59.Many honour crimes from rural areas never come to trial. Their deaths

:15:00. > :15:09.are often reported as suicide or accidents. The day after the selfies

:15:10. > :15:10.with Mufti Abdul Qavi were released, Qandeel appeared on one of the most

:15:11. > :16:12.popular talk shows in Pakistan. Qandeel and Mufti Abdul Qavi

:16:13. > :16:15.continued to argue. And for the producer, it was television gold,

:16:16. > :16:21.extending it to 90 minutes. This broadcast further inflamed the

:16:22. > :16:27.situation. What were you hoping or thinking would transpire? What did

:16:28. > :16:32.you want to uncover? When you are an investigative journalist you are

:16:33. > :16:39.trying to get to the bottom of everything, no matter how trivial it

:16:40. > :16:43.is. That was the story of the day. My initial thought was that one of

:16:44. > :16:48.them is lying and one of them is misleading the public for fake

:16:49. > :16:54.publicity. And I wanted to find out which one. Did you ever think this

:16:55. > :16:58.would put Qandeel's life in danger? If I had any inclination of that I

:16:59. > :17:05.would not have done the show. The media is hugely concerned about

:17:06. > :17:15.this. I don't know. I think that is a sweeping statement. I have a job

:17:16. > :17:21.to do. Am I responsible? I am an investigative journalist. There are

:17:22. > :17:28.stories that are unique that need to be solved. That doesn't make it

:17:29. > :17:40.right or wrong. That is the job I do. He is too good. Oh my god. I

:17:41. > :17:50.can't believe it. During the selfie video, Qandeel mentioned for the

:17:51. > :17:56.first time that she was from Multan. Armed with this information, the

:17:57. > :18:01.local Multani press swung into action. A few days later, details of

:18:02. > :18:10.Qandeel's personal life started appearing everywhere. Her real name,

:18:11. > :18:16.her passport, the families details, the fact that she had a child from

:18:17. > :18:32.her first marriage. Everything was made public. -- family's. Daily

:18:33. > :18:35.Pakistan, a Multan-based newspaper, is where details were first

:18:36. > :19:41.revealed. This man was the man responsible.

:19:42. > :19:45.As the media pressure intensified, Qandeel became increasingly worried

:19:46. > :20:04.about her safety. Two weeks before she was murdered,

:20:05. > :20:06.she asked the authorities for protection. But her request was

:20:07. > :20:31.ignored. Qandeel's parents are back at the

:20:32. > :20:40.village and they have had some bad news. One of Waseem's accomplices

:20:41. > :20:56.has been granted bail and has moved back to the village.

:20:57. > :21:00.They are still waiting for the trial of Waseem and the three alleged

:21:01. > :21:15.accomplices to begin. As the world looked on, Qandeel was

:21:16. > :21:30.buried in her home village. None of her friends made the journey.

:21:31. > :22:03.CRYING. In a non-descript patch of land lies Qandeel's body, marked

:22:04. > :22:10.only by two Pakistani flags. To many outside Pakistan, Qandeel was a

:22:11. > :22:16.feminist, a revolutionary, but the many Pakistanis, she was

:22:17. > :22:17.controversial. To her parents, she will always be there Bulava

:22:18. > :22:57.daughter. -- their beloved daughter. The Anti Honour Crime Bill was

:22:58. > :23:04.passed in 2016. The hope is that this will stop those killed for

:23:05. > :23:21.honour getting away with murder. The weekend weather carrying

:23:22. > :23:24.on in a pretty similar vein to what we have been

:23:25. > :23:28.used to over the last
