0:00:02 > 0:00:05Imagine you've embarked on the journey of a lifetime -
0:00:05 > 0:00:10a luxury cruise around the world.
0:00:10 > 0:00:14I've done things and seen places that people dream of seeing.
0:00:15 > 0:00:202,000 people are travelling some of the way, but 400
0:00:20 > 0:00:24lucky souls have signed up for the entire adventure.
0:00:25 > 0:00:30This for me is the culmination of a life's dream, it sure makes your eyes water.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34They'll be stopping at some of the most beautiful
0:00:34 > 0:00:36and exotic places around the globe.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42I think it's the most amazing thing ever.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45But this all-inclusive package offers much more than
0:00:45 > 0:00:47sunshine and sightseeing.
0:00:47 > 0:00:51On this global odyssey, the passengers have their very own vicar.
0:00:51 > 0:00:55Welcome, everyone, to this very special and happy occasion.
0:00:56 > 0:01:00The ship is my parish, and therefore I'm seeking to minister to
0:01:00 > 0:01:04everyone on board, whether they are believers or not.
0:01:04 > 0:01:05Welcome to The Cruise.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19It's nearly three months
0:01:19 > 0:01:24since the cruise liner Balmoral left Southampton. She's seen off
0:01:24 > 0:01:29the Atlantic and Pacific, and now she's heading into the Indian Ocean.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40The ship's minister is the Reverend Colin Still.
0:01:40 > 0:01:44One of the reasons a chaplain is on board the ship is
0:01:44 > 0:01:48either for Christmas or Easter, because it's then that we conduct
0:01:48 > 0:01:52the holy communion service, which no-one other than a priest can do.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57Right now, we're ready for business.
0:01:57 > 0:02:02Holy Week is always full of activity and it is busy, but because I have a number
0:02:02 > 0:02:07of special services, and then there's the choir, there's just quite a lot
0:02:07 > 0:02:11of arrangements for each of the services.
0:02:11 > 0:02:15I've got a crew mass tonight at 11:00,
0:02:15 > 0:02:20so that will be the end of my Palm Sunday, almost at midnight.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25- The Lord be with you. - And also with you.
0:02:25 > 0:02:30Our crew are on board for nine months of the year, and some of them
0:02:30 > 0:02:34have very young children at home, they have wives,
0:02:34 > 0:02:38so they don't see them very often, so that separation is painful.
0:02:38 > 0:02:42Nesty Coronel met, fell in love with
0:02:42 > 0:02:46and married her husband Michael whilst working on board.
0:02:46 > 0:02:50You look after quite a few passengers in their cabins,
0:02:50 > 0:02:53how many are you looking after, Nesty?
0:02:53 > 0:02:5419.
0:02:54 > 0:02:5619? That is a lot, isn't it?
0:02:56 > 0:02:58Yes.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02Like many of the crew, Nesty has to sacrifice a life at home to
0:03:02 > 0:03:05provide for her family.
0:03:06 > 0:03:07You've got a three-year-old?
0:03:07 > 0:03:09Three-year-old daughter.
0:03:09 > 0:03:13And that's the hard bit, isn't it? It must have been difficult
0:03:13 > 0:03:15saying goodbye to her just after Christmas?
0:03:15 > 0:03:20Yes, actually, we just let her sleep.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23In the other house,
0:03:23 > 0:03:28so we can see her when we leave, cos it is hard.
0:03:28 > 0:03:33It is so awful.
0:03:33 > 0:03:38But life is... Life is like that.
0:03:42 > 0:03:45Choirmistress Sue Alderson is also missing family,
0:03:45 > 0:03:48especially her ailing mum.
0:03:48 > 0:03:50She gets news whenever she can.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56'I haven't called my daughter, Hannah, since I last did...'
0:03:56 > 0:03:57Are you there?
0:03:57 > 0:04:01'..because I don't know how to do it properly.'
0:04:01 > 0:04:06- 'Hello!'- Oh, you're there! This is amazing.
0:04:08 > 0:04:12'So we just email and text, and that's fine.'
0:04:12 > 0:04:16I would have felt bad, much worse, if I hadn't been able to do that,
0:04:16 > 0:04:19because you would end up worrying what's happening all the time,
0:04:19 > 0:04:22but now that I'm getting messages through, it is a lot better.
0:04:26 > 0:04:30The choir helps, from being away from home. I think without
0:04:30 > 0:04:33even my mum's problems, I might have been a bit homesick
0:04:33 > 0:04:39over four months, and even if it's just for a split second,
0:04:39 > 0:04:43it takes your mind off anything that's really troubling you.
0:04:43 > 0:04:44Smile!
0:04:48 > 0:04:51They've arrived on the island of Phuket in Thailand.
0:04:52 > 0:04:58We've got a great excursion today here at Wat Chalong, which is
0:04:58 > 0:05:02one of the... Well, it's the biggest Buddhist temple in Phuket,
0:05:02 > 0:05:07and these temples are beautifully kept, and obviously greatly revered.
0:05:08 > 0:05:14I have every respect for the Buddhist religion, it has a lot to commend it.
0:05:16 > 0:05:20Well, religion goes right to the heart of people's spirit
0:05:20 > 0:05:25and soul, and it gives the meaning to life and enables us
0:05:25 > 0:05:29to have hope and also to try and make sense of this crazy world.
0:05:31 > 0:05:34Next stop, an elephant sanctuary.
0:05:40 > 0:05:42Hello.
0:05:44 > 0:05:45Right foot first.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52I haven't ridden on an elephant before. I've ridden on a camel,
0:05:52 > 0:05:54but not an elephant.
0:05:56 > 0:05:58What is our elephant's name?
0:06:00 > 0:06:02- Wabbo. Wabbo.- Wabbo.
0:06:05 > 0:06:10I think it's the most amazing thing ever, it's so exciting.
0:06:16 > 0:06:20I'm quite overwhelmed, really, a bit taken with it.
0:06:20 > 0:06:25We're not getting off. We're just going to stay on, go round all day.
0:06:28 > 0:06:30- Hello.- Hello, hello.
0:06:31 > 0:06:39- Wonderful.- Thank you, it's just been absolutely amazing.
0:06:39 > 0:06:43I just loved it, it was really something very special,
0:06:43 > 0:06:47nothing too demanding, just magic.
0:06:47 > 0:06:52It was more than I thought. I thought it would be a bit
0:06:52 > 0:06:56more touristy, but it's not. The conservation that they do here
0:06:56 > 0:07:01is fabulous, and the way that they look after the elephants,
0:07:01 > 0:07:07that the Mahout has his own elephant for life - imagine that!
0:07:07 > 0:07:13Having an elephant for life - why wasn't I born a Mahout with an elephant?
0:07:13 > 0:07:14Bye-bye.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21Whilst some passengers are on a short cruise, about a third
0:07:21 > 0:07:24have paid to go all the way around the world.
0:07:24 > 0:07:27Most of our passengers are over 60,
0:07:27 > 0:07:32and many of them have saved up in order to do a cruise of a lifetime.
0:07:35 > 0:07:36Retired builder Ken Marshall
0:07:36 > 0:07:40and his wife Shirley from Yorkshire are celebrating
0:07:40 > 0:07:43their 60th anniversary by renewing their wedding vows.
0:07:43 > 0:07:47BOTH: Today, in the presence of our family and friends,
0:07:47 > 0:07:52we affirm our continuing commitment to this marriage.
0:07:52 > 0:07:57Shirley and Ken cruise because Shirley loves to see the world
0:07:57 > 0:08:01and she's vivacious and she's very energetic.
0:08:01 > 0:08:06On this happy occasion for us and for everybody. Happy days.
0:08:08 > 0:08:11She drags poor old Ken along, he comes along to please her.
0:08:13 > 0:08:18I've seen a lot of the world, because I was in the RAF,
0:08:18 > 0:08:22but I've come on this trip for Shirley to enjoy herself.
0:08:23 > 0:08:29For Ken and Shirley on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.
0:08:29 > 0:08:34You know, you're busy in life. You work, you bring children up.
0:08:34 > 0:08:36You reach a pitch in life and you think,
0:08:36 > 0:08:38"Eh, what have I seen? Nothing."
0:08:38 > 0:08:41And I think, "Gosh, before I can't go,
0:08:41 > 0:08:44"I want to see everything there is."
0:08:45 > 0:08:53Ken's got a number of medical conditions, but he seems to cope,
0:08:53 > 0:08:57and he's very often quite happy just to stay in his cabin.
0:08:57 > 0:09:03It is lovely he does this out of love for her and to make her happy,
0:09:03 > 0:09:04and that's one of, I think,
0:09:04 > 0:09:06the successes of their 60 years of marriage.
0:09:09 > 0:09:13Shirley more or less has to do things on her own,
0:09:13 > 0:09:17but I trust her wherever she goes!
0:09:18 > 0:09:21He just waits for me to come back to him,
0:09:21 > 0:09:25and I wish he could come with me, but he couldn't cope.
0:09:26 > 0:09:29I enjoy it. I have no tears
0:09:29 > 0:09:33to be miserable, I do enjoy being on the ship.
0:09:35 > 0:09:41My grandchildren call it Granddad's nursing home on the sea.
0:09:42 > 0:09:44Oh, that's enough.
0:09:46 > 0:09:51And a couple of them call me Corporal Jones in Dad's Army,
0:09:51 > 0:09:54because I have the shakes like Corporal Jones,
0:09:54 > 0:09:59and they think it's wonderful to take the mickey out of Granddad.
0:09:59 > 0:10:03As Holy Week progresses, the crew are preparing for Easter...
0:10:07 > 0:10:10..with hundreds of hot cross buns.
0:10:10 > 0:10:12# He likes bread and butter
0:10:12 > 0:10:15# And he likes toast and jam
0:10:15 > 0:10:17# That's what really pleases him
0:10:17 > 0:10:20# And he's a loving man. #
0:10:32 > 0:10:35But they are also anticipating something far more sinister.
0:10:38 > 0:10:42The passengers will notice around an increased patrol of the ship,
0:10:42 > 0:10:46which will consist of our security personnel
0:10:46 > 0:10:49and contracted UK security personnel.
0:10:50 > 0:10:54They're going to see razor wire around Deck 7.
0:10:54 > 0:11:00They're going to see water cannons and additional searchlights.
0:11:02 > 0:11:05Captain Stoica is overseeing the operation.
0:11:07 > 0:11:09We're taking all of these precautions
0:11:09 > 0:11:12due to pirate activity in this area,
0:11:12 > 0:11:18and to make sure that we're ensuring a safe transit for our passengers
0:11:18 > 0:11:20and crew in a high-risk transit area.
0:11:21 > 0:11:25They'll be in the danger zone in a few days' time.
0:11:25 > 0:11:28We're notifying the Coalition Forces and the Royal Navy,
0:11:28 > 0:11:31and they'll be there for us to help in case we need it.
0:11:40 > 0:11:44Balmoral makes its way to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
0:11:52 > 0:11:55This afternoon, we're doing a little tour of the city,
0:11:55 > 0:11:59and we've got some of the crew with us on this little sightseeing trip.
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Two of his party are Nesty and Michael.
0:12:02 > 0:12:05Do you like spicy food?
0:12:05 > 0:12:10Not really, compared to Thai and Indonesian.
0:12:11 > 0:12:15I was glad of the opportunity of getting to know them better,
0:12:15 > 0:12:20simply because it's not easy to deepen relationships on board
0:12:20 > 0:12:23with the crew, because I don't see enough of them.
0:12:23 > 0:12:26I think they had a lovely afternoon, and I certainly did.
0:12:29 > 0:12:32How do they put the flower round the neck?
0:12:32 > 0:12:35I imagine they have scaffolding, you know, a crane.
0:12:35 > 0:12:39- Maybe they just throw on it. - I don't think so.
0:12:39 > 0:12:40One, two, three.
0:12:40 > 0:12:43We've just seen some of the major sites in Colombo,
0:12:43 > 0:12:48but not long enough, unfortunately, because they had to be back
0:12:48 > 0:12:51for their duties, so we had to cut it rather short.
0:12:55 > 0:12:59Shirley's keen for Ken to see a little more of the world.
0:12:59 > 0:13:02It's a tuk-tuk ride, which I haven't been looking forward to.
0:13:02 > 0:13:05People have terrified me this morning,
0:13:05 > 0:13:08saying it'll be this, that and the other.
0:13:12 > 0:13:15Look at the kites, Ken.
0:13:20 > 0:13:24It's turned out absolutely top drawer.
0:13:24 > 0:13:28It's wonderful, and the hair-raising driving is marvellous.
0:13:31 > 0:13:34Hey, look at that building there, Ken.
0:13:43 > 0:13:46You don't mind me not getting out, do you?
0:13:46 > 0:13:51There's lovely buildings, and seeing the temple was something else.
0:13:52 > 0:13:54It's been tremendous.
0:13:54 > 0:13:58I've done nothing but sit in a tuk-tuk, and had a wonderful time.
0:14:01 > 0:14:05If we hadn't come on this tour today, we'd have gone to see Colin
0:14:05 > 0:14:09in the cathedral, because it's a big day for Colin, today.
0:14:09 > 0:14:11It's at St Peter's Church.
0:14:11 > 0:14:15Colin's been invited to take part in a special service
0:14:15 > 0:14:19for The Mission to Seafarers, a charity which provides help
0:14:19 > 0:14:22and support to ships' crews all over the world.
0:14:22 > 0:14:24We're here in St Peter's Church,
0:14:24 > 0:14:27preparing for the Thanksgiving service
0:14:27 > 0:14:30and celebration for seafarers.
0:14:31 > 0:14:34I'm looking forward to taking part in it, and a lot of people
0:14:34 > 0:14:36are involved, and it will be, I'm sure,
0:14:36 > 0:14:40to the glory of God, and will be a great celebration.
0:14:40 > 0:14:43Nice to meet you, it's good to be here.
0:14:43 > 0:14:48I was a bit surprised to find quite so many naval cadets.
0:14:48 > 0:14:50The whole church was filled with them.
0:14:50 > 0:14:55It's the first time he's been asked to give a sermon on foreign soil.
0:14:55 > 0:14:56We've got the High Commissioner coming,
0:14:56 > 0:14:59the Chairman of The Mission to Seafarers is coming,
0:14:59 > 0:15:02our archdeacon here, and some of the clergy.
0:15:02 > 0:15:04So it's a very special celebration,
0:15:04 > 0:15:07and it's a privilege for me to be part of it.
0:15:14 > 0:15:19You here in Sri Lanka are an island nation,
0:15:19 > 0:15:23just as I have come from Britain, also an island nation,
0:15:23 > 0:15:27and we are very much dependent upon the sea.
0:15:32 > 0:15:34It was a very visual service,
0:15:34 > 0:15:37because the cadets looked incredibly smart
0:15:37 > 0:15:41in their white uniforms, and then carrying all the flags
0:15:41 > 0:15:44of the nations was also very meaningful.
0:15:45 > 0:15:48The Blessing of God Almighty, the Father,
0:15:48 > 0:15:50the Son and the Holy Spirit.
0:15:50 > 0:15:54With the help of the band and everyone else,
0:15:54 > 0:15:58it made for a really uplifting and a very good service.
0:16:20 > 0:16:22Shake hands, that's the way.
0:16:22 > 0:16:24Nice to have you here.
0:16:28 > 0:16:34I've had superb day, and everybody looked after us very well,
0:16:34 > 0:16:36as I don't walk far.
0:16:36 > 0:16:38Are you going to walk with me?
0:16:38 > 0:16:42Come on, then. Do you want to go listen to him talk down there?
0:16:42 > 0:16:46No. This will be far enough for me.
0:16:46 > 0:16:48Smile.
0:16:48 > 0:16:49It's wonderful.
0:16:49 > 0:16:54I love having him with me, but sometimes it's just too much.
0:16:54 > 0:16:57You've got your finger over it.
0:16:57 > 0:17:03So, I have to go by myself, but when he can come with me, it's wonderful.
0:17:03 > 0:17:06We've got more photos than soft Mick.
0:17:06 > 0:17:10Today's been special, absolutely special.
0:17:10 > 0:17:13- Every day's special with you, Shirley.- Thank you, love.
0:17:20 > 0:17:23Sue's coming to terms with some bad news.
0:17:24 > 0:17:29I heard during the week my mum has had a stroke
0:17:29 > 0:17:35and has been in hospital, but she's out now and back in the nursing home.
0:17:36 > 0:17:38The family has been superb.
0:17:38 > 0:17:43My sister and her husband and my daughters
0:17:43 > 0:17:46have taken it in turns to go each weekend.
0:17:46 > 0:17:52Friends are superb, and they've been visiting as well,
0:17:52 > 0:17:55and letting me know how she's going on.
0:17:55 > 0:18:00So, we just hope that she, yeah, pulls through.
0:18:04 > 0:18:07Fortunately, her husband's on board.
0:18:07 > 0:18:08David's been marvellous.
0:18:08 > 0:18:11He's a wonderful support, and he always manages
0:18:11 > 0:18:17to say the right thing and put everything into perspective.
0:18:17 > 0:18:23He's very, very good indeed, so I'm pleased to have him here with me.
0:18:23 > 0:18:29Don't bring any bags out. The only thing is, glasses on.
0:18:29 > 0:18:33It's the final rehearsal before Easter Sunday...
0:18:33 > 0:18:36You'll need to move swiftly. Are we ready?
0:18:36 > 0:18:38..and the heat's on for the choir.
0:18:38 > 0:18:39Don't fuss.
0:18:39 > 0:18:42Don't look to the sides or say, "I should be here,"
0:18:42 > 0:18:46or, "You should be there," or anything else. Straight into place.
0:18:46 > 0:18:49We've all had a very hot day.
0:18:49 > 0:18:52The temperature is 97, and everybody's exhausted.
0:18:52 > 0:18:56Please don't twitch heads one way or the other.
0:18:56 > 0:19:00No! Speaking. Please, go back to the sides.
0:19:00 > 0:19:03Sorry to be like this, but it is so important.
0:19:03 > 0:19:07It's kind of like, what are we doing, what are we singing, what do we do?
0:19:07 > 0:19:10Everybody goes a bit to pieces, really.
0:19:10 > 0:19:15Straight up, eyes this way. Walk in Jerusalem.
0:19:15 > 0:19:18# I want to be ready
0:19:18 > 0:19:20# I want to be ready... #
0:19:21 > 0:19:25Andy's done really well, and I think it works really nicely,
0:19:25 > 0:19:28with him leading into the service quite gently.
0:19:28 > 0:19:30Perfect.
0:19:30 > 0:19:34They're all doing a different part, more or less different rhythms,
0:19:34 > 0:19:35so that can be a bit tricky.
0:19:36 > 0:19:39THEY SING
0:19:42 > 0:19:45Stop, stop, stop. I feel you coming in too soon.
0:19:45 > 0:19:49Just having the confidence and remembering the words,
0:19:49 > 0:19:52because they've learnt these words in the last few days, as well.
0:19:52 > 0:19:53THEY SING
0:19:55 > 0:19:56# John said... #
0:19:56 > 0:19:57Same note.
0:19:57 > 0:19:59# John said... #
0:19:59 > 0:20:01We'll be OK tomorrow.
0:20:01 > 0:20:05I'm sure it'll be fine tomorrow, and people will understand anyway,
0:20:05 > 0:20:06won't they? So...
0:20:09 > 0:20:11As Balmoral moves into the pirate zone,
0:20:11 > 0:20:14the passengers must be prepared for action.
0:20:14 > 0:20:19In approximately 15 minutes' time, we'll conduct a mandatory
0:20:19 > 0:20:22exercise for all our guests and crew on board.
0:20:23 > 0:20:28The Safe Haven drill consists of gathering the passengers and crew
0:20:28 > 0:20:31in a safe location in case we're going to be under pirate attack.
0:20:32 > 0:20:34Everybody, sit down, please.
0:20:37 > 0:20:42It may appear excessive, but Balmoral's been threatened before.
0:20:42 > 0:20:47When it happened in 2009, it was very crowded,
0:20:47 > 0:20:50because if you can imagine, we had over 1,000 passengers
0:20:50 > 0:20:55and 500 crew that had to go into those two Safe Haven areas.
0:20:58 > 0:21:00Ian Earnshaw remembers the incident well.
0:21:00 > 0:21:04Before the attack, everything was normal on the ship,
0:21:04 > 0:21:07completely normal, because everybody didn't think
0:21:07 > 0:21:11for one moment that it would ever happen.
0:21:11 > 0:21:13There may be trouble ahead.
0:21:13 > 0:21:17Where do I sit? Anywhere? Anywhere.
0:21:17 > 0:21:21Drama teacher Carol Bunyan witnessed the first encounter.
0:21:21 > 0:21:26One night, the ship was encircled by small boats,
0:21:26 > 0:21:28and I think they were recceing.
0:21:28 > 0:21:32It struck me it was a recce, and then a couple of days later,
0:21:32 > 0:21:35the Captain's voice came on.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38He said, "This is not a drill, this is not a drill."
0:21:38 > 0:21:43And you just felt the hairs on the back of your neck just prickling.
0:21:43 > 0:21:46While the attack was taking place,
0:21:46 > 0:21:49the ship was moving from side to side quite violently.
0:21:49 > 0:21:53I mean, it made sense to be sitting on the floor.
0:21:53 > 0:21:56A little daunting, a little daunting to see,
0:21:56 > 0:21:59because it makes you think, "Oh, this is not Johnny Depp,
0:21:59 > 0:22:01"this is not fun, this is actually quite serious,
0:22:01 > 0:22:03"and somebody could get hurt."
0:22:04 > 0:22:10We were informed that a United States warship was in the proximity.
0:22:10 > 0:22:14The American Frigate got itself between the Balmoral
0:22:14 > 0:22:21and the threatening little boats, and the captain put his foot down,
0:22:21 > 0:22:23and we ran off like Mulley Cheese Wallop in a dignified
0:22:23 > 0:22:29sort of way, while the frigate coped with the small boats.
0:22:29 > 0:22:32But when the ships did its manoeuvres
0:22:32 > 0:22:37to avoid the attack, the ship would rock from side to side.
0:22:37 > 0:22:41The main danger is the people standing up would fall on those
0:22:41 > 0:22:44that were laying down, and that's when the bruises would happen.
0:22:44 > 0:22:46They were in far more danger of that
0:22:46 > 0:22:48than being hit by the Jolly Roger flag.
0:22:49 > 0:22:52Colin and I were actually in charge of getting
0:22:52 > 0:22:53people down on the floor.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56That was the only resistance, people saying,
0:22:56 > 0:22:59"I'll never get up, dear, once I get down."
0:22:59 > 0:23:03The older people, that would have reminded them of the wartime Blitz,
0:23:03 > 0:23:07like going to the London Underground in the cities, under the shelters.
0:23:07 > 0:23:10So, that took them right back to that time of life,
0:23:10 > 0:23:13and in fact, I heard them singing.
0:23:13 > 0:23:17Some old war songs further down, started singing war songs.
0:23:20 > 0:23:23We had There'll Always Be An England,
0:23:23 > 0:23:26lots of stirring Vera Lynn stuff went on.
0:23:26 > 0:23:29I think the passengers thoroughly enjoyed it, actually,
0:23:29 > 0:23:32a lot of things to write on the postcards home.
0:23:33 > 0:23:38It threw everything into chaos, that night, but it was good fun.
0:23:38 > 0:23:41We sat there, sitting with different people, people probably
0:23:41 > 0:23:43that they'd never met, so everyone was talking.
0:23:43 > 0:23:46I would imagine friendships were made.
0:23:46 > 0:23:50I think it was, you know, it was an experience.
0:23:54 > 0:24:00They'll have to remain ready, as Balmoral will be in high-risk area
0:24:00 > 0:24:02for the next two weeks.
0:24:10 > 0:24:15Well, it's Easter at last, and there is quite a responsibility,
0:24:15 > 0:24:19because I've got three services to take and three different
0:24:19 > 0:24:20addresses to give.
0:24:20 > 0:24:23So there's quite a bit of stress,
0:24:23 > 0:24:27so I'm just glad to be here early to get everything ready.
0:24:29 > 0:24:32CHURCH MUSIC PLAYS
0:24:37 > 0:24:40It's a day, indeed, to rejoice,
0:24:40 > 0:24:45and we share that happiness with Christians all around the world.
0:24:45 > 0:24:47Amen.
0:24:47 > 0:24:49Easter Day is the most important,
0:24:49 > 0:24:54because it highlights Jesus' purpose in coming, knowing that
0:24:54 > 0:24:57not only are we forgiven, but also that we have that gift
0:24:57 > 0:24:59of eternal life.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03Colin's organised the music for the Crew Service.
0:25:06 > 0:25:11Hello, Tim, that's the hymn sheet for today,
0:25:11 > 0:25:14and there is the service sheet.
0:25:14 > 0:25:19Welcome to our Easter Sunday Holy Communion, or Mass.
0:25:19 > 0:25:21It's lovely to see you all here today.
0:25:27 > 0:25:33SHE SINGS
0:25:38 > 0:25:42We've had a great service this afternoon, and I think the crew
0:25:42 > 0:25:48appreciated introducing music, which I've done at long last,
0:25:48 > 0:25:54and also be able to enjoy Easter service, mindful of their families.
0:25:54 > 0:25:57So, it's been good in the parish at sea
0:25:57 > 0:26:01to be celebrating Easter in this way.
0:26:02 > 0:26:05So, it's two down and one to go.
0:26:05 > 0:26:07Happy Easter, Ken.
0:26:07 > 0:26:09Happy Easter to you. Did you have a pleasant day yesterday?
0:26:09 > 0:26:11- Busy one.- Happy Easter.- And to you.
0:26:13 > 0:26:15I'm not that religious.
0:26:15 > 0:26:17- Morning, Colin.- Good morning, Ian.
0:26:17 > 0:26:19I don't normally go to church,
0:26:19 > 0:26:23only on christenings and weddings and funerals.
0:26:23 > 0:26:26But I like Colin, I've got a lot of time for Colin,
0:26:26 > 0:26:29so we're all going down there, a few of my party going down,
0:26:29 > 0:26:31which will be nice.
0:26:31 > 0:26:37Jesus Christ is risen today. Halleluiah.
0:26:37 > 0:26:41It's always a tradition of being a joyful service and bright.
0:26:45 > 0:26:48It's been quite a hectic week, as Palm Sunday was a bit
0:26:48 > 0:26:52frustrating, because we weren't able to have the choir sing.
0:26:52 > 0:26:55They're going to sing today the piece they prepared last week.
0:26:55 > 0:26:59# I want to be ready
0:26:59 > 0:27:03# I want to be ready
0:27:03 > 0:27:05# I want to be ready... #
0:27:05 > 0:27:07The knee started shaking, and I could feel myself
0:27:07 > 0:27:10getting a bit nervous, but fortunately,
0:27:10 > 0:27:11it seemed to go reasonably well.
0:27:11 > 0:27:15I thought it could have gone a lot better, but hey ho.
0:27:19 > 0:27:22# Oh, by and by
0:27:22 > 0:27:25# By and by
0:27:25 > 0:27:28# Oh, by and by
0:27:28 > 0:27:31# By and by
0:27:31 > 0:27:34# Oh, by and by
0:27:34 > 0:27:38# By and by
0:27:38 > 0:27:43# I'm going to lay down my heavy load
0:27:43 > 0:27:50# For I tried it on at the gates of hell... #
0:27:52 > 0:27:53It went really, really well.
0:27:53 > 0:27:57I thought it was a lovely service as far as the choir is concerned.

0:28:00 > 0:28:01they sounded good.
0:28:01 > 0:28:03I'm really proud of them.
0:28:03 > 0:28:06# Ready
0:28:09 > 0:28:16# To walk in Jerusalem just like John. #
0:28:17 > 0:28:22Next time, Colin remembers those who fell at El Alamein...
0:28:22 > 0:28:27They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
0:28:27 > 0:28:31..and Balmoral is coming home after four months at sea.
