:00:48. > :00:52.industry that has not been changed and that is television. There has

:00:52. > :00:58.been heavy talk of a marriage between the weather and TV but it

:00:58. > :01:01.has been slow to happen. Silicon Valley software giants are on a

:01:01. > :01:11.journey they believed would transform the way we view TV. We

:01:11. > :01:15.will follow that journey all the way from San Francisco to Las Vegas.

:01:15. > :01:19.Television has boundless possibilities. It has been the

:01:19. > :01:22.revelation that failed. This could be the air it finally happens. Our

:01:22. > :01:28.journey will take us to the software giants who believe they

:01:28. > :01:31.can usher in a brave new world of choice and changed the way we

:01:31. > :01:37.interact with television. We will meet the TV manufacturers who

:01:37. > :01:42.believe change is in their hands. Let's start in San Francisco and

:01:42. > :01:49.job in in one of the tiny media firms which proliferate the city.

:01:49. > :01:54.We found a man who was involved in working with the future of TV for

:01:54. > :01:59.us many years. I press this button and it tells my satellite receiver

:02:52. > :02:58.come together? I think TV is great today. We are reaching a new point

:02:58. > :03:04.where we are going to enable the consumer. We have seen the tidal

:03:04. > :03:08.wave of the internet as it crashes over businesses. It generally

:03:09. > :03:18.improves the day-to-day lives. As the internet was over television,

:03:19. > :03:31.

:03:31. > :03:35.the consumer will have more choice. Let's head off down the freeway to

:03:35. > :03:43.Mountain View, the epicentre of Silicon Valley. First there was

:03:43. > :03:47.stop briefly at a company whose headquarters is in Seattle.

:03:47. > :03:56.Microsoft is not yet much of a player in terms of what we watch on

:03:56. > :04:02.television but they had to change how we watch it. The Xbox Connect

:04:02. > :04:09.system for video games turns the but it also response to voice

:04:09. > :04:15.command. Microsoft is offering television services delivered over

:04:15. > :04:23.the internet to the Xbox. You will be able to shout at the television

:04:23. > :04:33.and it will respond. Will this catch on? May be but only if it is

:04:36. > :04:40.A couple of miles away is the headquarters of the most successful

:04:40. > :04:45.company to emerge from the Silicon Valley over the last 15 years. It

:04:45. > :04:52.was at Google which we found the most ambitious attempt to reshape

:04:52. > :05:00.TV. It is a warm sunny January lunchtime for Silicon Valley's most

:05:00. > :05:07.powerful business. They are harder work shined to make a serious

:05:07. > :05:17.impression on the way we watch television. GoogleTV has launched

:05:17. > :05:18.

:05:18. > :05:25.over a year ago. When I sat down in the company's viewing theatre, my

:10:52. > :10:57.interesting. Apple is a luxury brand. They have proven that people

:10:57. > :11:05.will pay it a bit of a premium for the best quality of everything.

:11:05. > :11:12.There is real changes in TV that has just come out. You get

:11:12. > :11:21.dramatically better picture. If Apple can get back into their CV,

:16:51. > :16:59.place to see the future. 20,000 products are introduced at almost

:16:59. > :17:03.every CES. Many of them will not see the light of day. The visitors

:17:03. > :17:09.are the ones who decide what succeeds and what fails. That is

:17:09. > :17:15.the entrepreneurial beauty. It happened with remote controls,

:17:15. > :17:23.microwave ovens, personal video recorders. We do not need any of

:17:23. > :17:27.these products but we have come to rely on them. There will be

:17:27. > :17:32.products introduced and people will say, why didn't I think of that and

:17:32. > :17:42.how can I live without it? walked around the show and wondered

:17:43. > :17:45.what made this year different in terms of connected television.

:17:45. > :17:49.year the biggest innovation has been to bring these technologies

:20:54. > :21:04.home where your Sony tablet talks to your Sony movies and your Sony

:21:04. > :21:23.

:21:23. > :21:26.These are not just used for viewing your television shows. It is

:21:26. > :21:30.accessing content from the internet. But, like every other company we

:21:30. > :21:33.have met on our travels, it still needs to fill in the missing link -

:21:33. > :21:37.tempting customers to care about connecting their televisions to the

:21:37. > :21:40.internet. One of the most important things we have to focus on as an

:21:40. > :21:47.industry is getting consumers to understand the breadth of the

:21:47. > :21:57.content available. You should connect your TV right to the

:21:57. > :22:02.
