0:00:02 > 0:00:04My name's Wynne Evans, opera singer, broadcaster
0:00:04 > 0:00:07and someone who's always up for a challenge.
0:00:07 > 0:00:10In this programme I'll be leaving the comfort of the stage
0:00:10 > 0:00:12behind me and learning a new skill that's a million miles
0:00:12 > 0:00:16away from my day job, and showing that I'm "In It To Wynne It".
0:00:18 > 0:00:21This week I'm heading west to meet a group of girls from Swansea
0:00:21 > 0:00:24who happen to be synchronised swimmers.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26When I think of synchronised swimming,
0:00:26 > 0:00:29I'm thinking glamorous ladies in Hollywood films,
0:00:29 > 0:00:31gorgeous swimming caps,
0:00:31 > 0:00:34and all appearing to be in the water but never actually getting wet.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39The reality is slightly different.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42It's an Olympic sport, and highly competitive.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45And apparently only suitable for elite athletes.
0:00:45 > 0:00:49But they always say that, though, don't they?
0:00:49 > 0:00:52So my challenge is, in one month I have to perform in front
0:00:52 > 0:00:57of an audience and be judged by professional synchronised swimmers -
0:00:57 > 0:01:00or, as I like to call them, women in flowery hats.
0:01:00 > 0:01:03Right, I'd better crack on.
0:01:03 > 0:01:07Synchronised swimming day one, at the Wales International Pool.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08How hard is this going to be?
0:01:08 > 0:01:12I've been told they're aged between 14 and 16.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14If they can do it, I can do it.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17Swansea Synchro only formed five years ago,
0:01:17 > 0:01:20so it shouldn't be THAT hard to catch up.
0:01:20 > 0:01:21So, the girls don't know I'm coming,
0:01:21 > 0:01:24so it's going to be a surprise for them. Let's see.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26'Over to Holly, their coach, who is going to give me
0:01:26 > 0:01:28'the big introduction.'
0:01:28 > 0:01:32- SHE SHOUTS:- As you may be aware, I've got a little surprise for you.
0:01:32 > 0:01:36Our ninth member in our 15-overs team is Wynne Evans.
0:01:36 > 0:01:39'Well, the girls look suitably impressed.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41'And I'm impressed with Holly.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44'Took me seven years of music college to get my voice that loud.'
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Holly, they've just jumped in the pool. Thanks for having me, firstly.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49No problem.
0:01:49 > 0:01:54- Secondly, synchronised swimming, I'm thinking 1940s, 1950s films.- Right.
0:01:54 > 0:01:59- Me doing this, going...- No, it's really not.- What do I need to be?
0:01:59 > 0:02:02- You need to be an elite gymnast... - Check.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04- ..a professional dancer...- Check.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06..and an elite athlete swimmer.
0:02:06 > 0:02:08Three out of three! Not bad.
0:02:08 > 0:02:09What group am I going to be in?
0:02:09 > 0:02:12You're going to go with our top-end older swimmers.
0:02:12 > 0:02:17- So the youngest is 14 and the oldest is 16.- The same age as my daughter.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19- So they've got loads of attitude. - Oh, yes.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22- Really chopsy...- Definitely!- ..and they think they're decent swimmers.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25I'm going to be all right with this lot, I think. I'm going to fit in.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27'Seriously, I'm not seeing anything here
0:02:27 > 0:02:30'that is not well within my capabilities.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32'Except maybe that...
0:02:32 > 0:02:33'and that.'
0:02:33 > 0:02:36I don't understand how they stay above the water.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38It is something called eggbeater,
0:02:38 > 0:02:40it's like a version of treading water,
0:02:40 > 0:02:44and the aim is to get...there out the water, as a minimum.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47'Yeah - what she said was eggbeater.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49'It's the basics of synchro.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52'Basically you turn your legs into an electric whisk.'
0:02:52 > 0:02:55Tucks, thrusts.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58- How is she getting down? - Splits, down.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01- So I'm like this, doing that.- Yeah.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04I'm better at this than I thought I was going to be!
0:03:04 > 0:03:06- I can't get up!- You can do!
0:03:08 > 0:03:11'I think it's fair to say I've nailed the dry-land version.
0:03:11 > 0:03:15'Surely being in the water isn't going to make THAT much difference.'
0:03:15 > 0:03:19- Hello!- Hi!- Are you happy that I am the ninth member of your team?
0:03:19 > 0:03:20Yes!
0:03:20 > 0:03:22Is there anything I can do between now
0:03:22 > 0:03:25and the first training session to kind of nail it?
0:03:25 > 0:03:30- Try searching up some Bollywood. The hands.- A lot of hand twisting.
0:03:30 > 0:03:34We're going to be the best team. Team Bollywood. You're holding on!
0:03:34 > 0:03:36Not allowed to hold on! Holding on, holding on!
0:03:36 > 0:03:37See you Sunday.
0:03:37 > 0:03:40It's actually impossible.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43Is not even, like... Look at me - 43, I'm a big, old fatty,
0:03:43 > 0:03:46and I can't swim.
0:03:46 > 0:03:49Ah. So my routine is going to be Bollywood themed,
0:03:49 > 0:03:52like just floating and not drowning wasn't difficult enough,
0:03:52 > 0:03:54now we've got to throw Bollywood into the mix.
0:03:54 > 0:03:58Time to go home and start putting the hours in in the water.
0:03:58 > 0:04:01So I've come home to relax after the first training session -
0:04:01 > 0:04:05well, WATCHING the first training session, and...
0:04:05 > 0:04:07Time to practise.
0:04:09 > 0:04:13Eggbeater, eggbeater, eggbeater, eggbeater, eggbeater...
0:04:14 > 0:04:17I can't put it off any longer. Time to hit the pool.
0:04:17 > 0:04:20Wow, is that me running?!
0:04:21 > 0:04:23Hello, team!
0:04:23 > 0:04:25I've been perfecting getting into the pool. Do you want to see it?
0:04:25 > 0:04:27Yes!
0:04:27 > 0:04:29'Cue graceful entry.
0:04:34 > 0:04:37'That actually hurt, I just decided not to show it.'
0:04:37 > 0:04:40I'm eggbeatering!
0:04:40 > 0:04:42'Loving those Bollywood hands.
0:04:42 > 0:04:44'Not loving THAT bit.'
0:04:46 > 0:04:47I'm doing it.
0:04:47 > 0:04:51- A bit higher! There you go! - I've got no control where I'm going.
0:04:51 > 0:04:53ALL LAUGH
0:04:53 > 0:04:57'Clearly the girls are laughing WITH me, and not at me.'
0:04:59 > 0:05:02'Time for Maria to teach me my main move of the routine.'
0:05:02 > 0:05:04Bring it over, all the way over.
0:05:04 > 0:05:05'It's a backward roll.'
0:05:09 > 0:05:11I'm getting wet!
0:05:16 > 0:05:18Did I do it?!
0:05:18 > 0:05:20Yeah!
0:05:20 > 0:05:23You see? Not everybody nails that the first time they try it.
0:05:26 > 0:05:30- That is so tiring.- It's like half an hour on a treadmill.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33Not that I've ever done half an hour on the treadmill.
0:05:33 > 0:05:35But I'm thinking it might be like that.
0:05:35 > 0:05:41- My team leader, I'm feeling a bit despondent.- Why?
0:05:41 > 0:05:44- Because I'm rubbish. What can I do?- You're not bad.
0:05:44 > 0:05:49Just practise your eggbeater and practise sculling.
0:05:49 > 0:05:52Like, if you're sitting down in your room, just go like this.
0:05:52 > 0:05:53If you're having a rest at the side,
0:05:53 > 0:05:56the best thing to do is practise in the water
0:05:56 > 0:06:01- and if you make a little wave pool, you're sculling right.- Show me.
0:06:01 > 0:06:04So if you're going like this, you have a little wave pool.
0:06:04 > 0:06:08So you're sculling right. That gets you the feel of the water as well.
0:06:08 > 0:06:11- It's exhausting, isn't it?- It is.
0:06:11 > 0:06:12Chips?
0:06:12 > 0:06:13Yeah!
0:06:20 > 0:06:23That was...er, much harder than I thought it was going to be.
0:06:25 > 0:06:27Um...
0:06:27 > 0:06:30It's actually hard to stay afloat in the water.
0:06:31 > 0:06:33Mmm.
0:06:33 > 0:06:36Eggbeater. Eggbeater.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42It's obvious in more than one way that I'm out of my depth.
0:06:42 > 0:06:44I'm heading to a pool just outside Carmarthen
0:06:44 > 0:06:47to get some special one-to-one help with some experienced professionals.
0:06:47 > 0:06:49- Hello.- Hello!
0:06:49 > 0:06:50How are you?
0:06:50 > 0:06:53Penny and Alex are ex-Team GB synchronised swimmers.
0:06:53 > 0:06:58- Tell me about you. You swam in the British team, didn't you?- Yes.
0:06:58 > 0:06:59Synchronised swimming, yeah.
0:06:59 > 0:07:02Penny has been a synchronised swimmer since childhood,
0:07:02 > 0:07:05and has a wealth of experience with the sport.
0:07:05 > 0:07:08She is an accomplished coach and will be my judge
0:07:08 > 0:07:11at the final performance, so time to turn on the Evans charm.
0:07:11 > 0:07:13Is it a good sport to be involved in?
0:07:13 > 0:07:16It is a very good sport to be involved in. It's very hard.
0:07:16 > 0:07:18I think people think it is easy
0:07:18 > 0:07:22because they see the top swimmers making it look easy.
0:07:22 > 0:07:24The sport itself is very technical,
0:07:24 > 0:07:29it requires an awful lot of fitness levels, and strength, flexibility.
0:07:29 > 0:07:32There is just so much to this sport.
0:07:32 > 0:07:34I've got about five sessions in the pool.
0:07:34 > 0:07:38- Realistically, what can I hope to achieve?- How fit are you, then?
0:07:38 > 0:07:39Look at me.
0:07:41 > 0:07:43What do YOU think?
0:07:44 > 0:07:47'Penny and Alex are going to give me some pointers in a shallow pool.
0:07:47 > 0:07:50'Basically synchronised swimming for lazy people.'
0:07:50 > 0:07:52'Bliss.'
0:07:52 > 0:07:54Oh, my word.
0:07:54 > 0:07:56Oh, my word!
0:07:57 > 0:08:00Careful where you put that leg. All right?
0:08:00 > 0:08:04So you're going to need to be as flat as possible in the water.
0:08:04 > 0:08:07You have to really squeeze your bottom
0:08:07 > 0:08:09up towards the ceiling, so you don't squish Penny.
0:08:09 > 0:08:11OK, let's give it a go. Ready?
0:08:13 > 0:08:17- Seriously, Penny, love, careful as you go.- Stay like that, stay tight.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21Fabulous! Excellent.
0:08:21 > 0:08:23Brilliant!
0:08:23 > 0:08:25Wahey!
0:08:25 > 0:08:29- This is good!- Well done. What's next on the list?- We've done...
0:08:29 > 0:08:32Look at that. If the synchronised swimming fails,
0:08:32 > 0:08:34Penny is going into art.
0:08:34 > 0:08:36That's upside down!
0:08:44 > 0:08:48- Nice!- That's not bad! - 'Agreed, not bad at all.'
0:08:50 > 0:08:54'Basically, as long as I've got Penny holding on to me in the pool,
0:08:54 > 0:08:56'I'm going to be OK.'
0:08:59 > 0:09:03That's given me the boost I needed for my technical synchro,
0:09:03 > 0:09:06now I need help with my swimming, so I'm heading straight to the top -
0:09:06 > 0:09:08Olympian David Davies.
0:09:09 > 0:09:12He represented Team GB at three Olympics
0:09:12 > 0:09:15and won gold for Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
0:09:15 > 0:09:17I THINK he's qualified to teach me.
0:09:17 > 0:09:21- I've had a bit of trouble finding a pool, if I'm totally honest.- OK.
0:09:21 > 0:09:23It's not something you had trouble with,
0:09:23 > 0:09:25but there's aqua aerobics going on in most of them,
0:09:25 > 0:09:28so... You're going to love this, I've got this for us!
0:09:31 > 0:09:33OK, I'll make a deal.
0:09:33 > 0:09:36I won't tell him it's a hot tub if you don't.
0:09:38 > 0:09:39It is set to 40 degrees.
0:09:39 > 0:09:42So the main thing you're looking for is to be nice and smooth,
0:09:42 > 0:09:44no splashing, nice and smooth technique,
0:09:44 > 0:09:47and really getting a good pull on the water all the time.
0:09:47 > 0:09:48- OK.- So, just watch and learn.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04'Well done, David Davies, Olympic champion. My go.'
0:10:04 > 0:10:06So you really want to pull your arms out
0:10:06 > 0:10:08and scoop the water out behind you. That's it.
0:10:08 > 0:10:09You could do a leg kick as well.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12You've got really, big, strong, powerful legs there.
0:10:12 > 0:10:14So bend your knee up now. And then kick behind.
0:10:18 > 0:10:22It's quite fast, isn't it? It's quite fast.
0:10:22 > 0:10:24- How can I be drowning in a hot tub? - You've got this.
0:10:24 > 0:10:26Going to put jet two on.
0:10:26 > 0:10:27What? We were only on jet one?
0:10:27 > 0:10:29- I think it's on half a jet, to be honest.- Really?
0:10:29 > 0:10:31I'll give you five seconds of jet three
0:10:31 > 0:10:33and go hell for leather then. Jet four. All in.
0:10:33 > 0:10:35- I'm really going for it.- Here we go.
0:10:39 > 0:10:41And then to jet four.
0:10:42 > 0:10:44Go on, Wynne!
0:10:50 > 0:10:51What do you think?
0:10:51 > 0:10:53I don't really know what to say to you, if I'm honest.
0:10:53 > 0:10:56- Just stay on jet one. - Stay on jet one!
0:10:56 > 0:10:59Really? I thought you were going to say jump to jet five!
0:11:01 > 0:11:06Winner of the silver medal for the Garden Centre Olympics 2016
0:11:06 > 0:11:08is Mr Wynne Evans.
0:11:08 > 0:11:10- Many congratulations. - Thank you very much.
0:11:10 > 0:11:12- Fantastic performance. - Thanks very much.
0:11:12 > 0:11:14As we're in a garden centre,
0:11:14 > 0:11:16- congratulations.- Thank you.
0:11:22 > 0:11:25'Right, back to the Bollywood routine
0:11:25 > 0:11:27'and today is dry land training.
0:11:27 > 0:11:28'I'm actually OK at this.
0:11:28 > 0:11:31'You see, if you take the water element out,
0:11:31 > 0:11:32'I'm a bit of a natural.
0:11:32 > 0:11:36'But then I suppose it would just be called synchronised.
0:11:38 > 0:11:40'Alas, back in the pool,
0:11:40 > 0:11:43'the backward roll is still a bit of a mystery to me.'
0:11:46 > 0:11:47GIRLS LAUGH
0:11:49 > 0:11:52This is impossible! It's not possible!
0:11:52 > 0:11:53The backwards roll...
0:11:56 > 0:12:00He just gets stuck upside down or he ends up going sideways.
0:12:03 > 0:12:06He's trying to bring himself back, but he can't.
0:12:06 > 0:12:09By then, we've already done like three counts of eight.
0:12:09 > 0:12:12'Thank you for your kind words, girls.
0:12:12 > 0:12:15'I suppose if I was in the throes of youth, I'd be quietly smug as well.'
0:12:17 > 0:12:19Have you ever seen a whale beach?
0:12:19 > 0:12:20It looks like this.
0:12:24 > 0:12:25Like that.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30'Still, me in the pool seems to be keeping the crew amused
0:12:30 > 0:12:33'but that's not quite the point of the programme.'
0:12:35 > 0:12:37I actually did that thing then of being sick in your own mouth.
0:12:37 > 0:12:39Oh, Wynne!
0:12:39 > 0:12:41'With only two weeks to go,
0:12:41 > 0:12:43'I've realised there's more in the routine that I can't do
0:12:43 > 0:12:45'than I can do.'
0:12:47 > 0:12:49It's basically three minutes of drowning.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52I can't do the basic moves,
0:12:52 > 0:12:54stay above the water.
0:12:54 > 0:12:57- He just keeps getting in the way. - What?- You keep getting in the way.
0:12:57 > 0:13:00- You keep getting in my way, Megs. - I know!- That's awkward.
0:13:00 > 0:13:04I'm trying to throw some serious shapes out there.
0:13:04 > 0:13:05- You're doing good, Wynne. - Out of 10?
0:13:05 > 0:13:07Er...
0:13:07 > 0:13:08Wait. What 10?
0:13:08 > 0:13:11Is it like synchronised swimming 10
0:13:11 > 0:13:13or what I was expecting?
0:13:13 > 0:13:14'Thank you, Maria.
0:13:14 > 0:13:16'We're not at home to Little Miss Rude.'
0:13:18 > 0:13:21Well, I've been having trouble finding a pool to practise in,
0:13:21 > 0:13:27so a friend of the director's has lent me his pool to have a go in.
0:13:27 > 0:13:29As you can see, it's cold here.
0:13:29 > 0:13:32It's one degree. It feels like -3.
0:13:32 > 0:13:35Girls, I think I'm showing commitment.
0:13:35 > 0:13:36Right.
0:13:36 > 0:13:37Are you ready?
0:13:39 > 0:13:40Here goes.
0:13:43 > 0:13:45HE PANTS
0:13:47 > 0:13:49It's absolutely freezing!
0:13:49 > 0:13:50'At least I tried.
0:13:50 > 0:13:52'Back to the hot tub.'
0:14:01 > 0:14:03'A new day and a new approach.
0:14:03 > 0:14:06'I'm going to try to work on my flexibility.
0:14:06 > 0:14:08'Who better to teach me
0:14:08 > 0:14:11'than Commonwealth gold medallist Frankie Jones?
0:14:11 > 0:14:14'Frankie is a Welsh rhythmic gymnast
0:14:14 > 0:14:17'who represented Wales at three Commonwealth Games.
0:14:17 > 0:14:20'In 2014, she won gold.'
0:14:20 > 0:14:24Right, my challenge is I've got to learn to be a synchronised swimmer.
0:14:24 > 0:14:25They do a lot of dry land training
0:14:25 > 0:14:27and they say my flexibility isn't good enough.
0:14:27 > 0:14:30- Ta-da! Thought you could help me. - Yeah.- Let's do it!
0:14:30 > 0:14:34OK, we probably ought to do a bit of a warm-up to start with.
0:14:34 > 0:14:35Maybe a bit of a jog round.
0:14:35 > 0:14:37'I want to be very clear.
0:14:37 > 0:14:39'I'm warming up, not chasing her.
0:14:39 > 0:14:40'That would be very wrong.'
0:14:40 > 0:14:41HE GROANS
0:14:41 > 0:14:44- Bit of a stretch. There you go. - How's that?- That's good.
0:14:44 > 0:14:46Just get as far as you can and hold it.
0:14:46 > 0:14:48My stretch is going to be like this
0:14:48 > 0:14:51but I think we'll simplify it for you a little bit.
0:14:52 > 0:14:54- On that?- Lift your leg up.
0:14:54 > 0:14:55Simplify it a bit!
0:14:55 > 0:14:58Yeah, Wynne, you can come to the bar that's barely off the floor.
0:14:58 > 0:15:00Got to give you a chance!
0:15:00 > 0:15:02- Go to the side.- Side.
0:15:02 > 0:15:03Lean sideways.
0:15:03 > 0:15:05Oh, that's quite nice.
0:15:05 > 0:15:07I'm going to watch this back and do the exercises every day.
0:15:07 > 0:15:10- Mentally?- Yeah.
0:15:10 > 0:15:12You just do a split jump.
0:15:12 > 0:15:13Split jump.
0:15:15 > 0:15:17I'm more of a hurdler!
0:15:17 > 0:15:19There you go.
0:15:19 > 0:15:21- Ooh!- Are you OK?
0:15:21 > 0:15:24It's harder than it looks.
0:15:24 > 0:15:25Two, three, split.
0:15:25 > 0:15:28And one, two, three.
0:15:28 > 0:15:30TRAMPOLINE SNAPS
0:15:39 > 0:15:40Are you OK?
0:15:43 > 0:15:45- Are you all right? - Yeah, no, I'm fine.
0:15:47 > 0:15:51Oh, dear. That shouldn't happen, should it?
0:15:51 > 0:15:54- Should it?- No. You snapped this bit off!
0:15:54 > 0:15:57Maybe we leave the trampolining for now.
0:15:59 > 0:16:01'Spring break seems to be over
0:16:01 > 0:16:02'so I'm heading back to Swansea
0:16:02 > 0:16:05'with my new world-class gymnastic ability.'
0:16:05 > 0:16:09One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
0:16:09 > 0:16:12One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
0:16:12 > 0:16:15One, two, three... That's where I'm coming up, isn't it?
0:16:15 > 0:16:17And then you join in our line.
0:16:17 > 0:16:20- In a line this way?- Yeah. - Sideways? OK.
0:16:20 > 0:16:22- So I'm behind you, yeah?- Hi.
0:16:22 > 0:16:25Anahat, go to the left. Alice right.
0:16:25 > 0:16:27- Wynne left.- Three.
0:16:27 > 0:16:29He needs more time to learn the basics
0:16:29 > 0:16:31but, at the same time, we don't have enough time
0:16:31 > 0:16:33to teach him all the basics.
0:16:33 > 0:16:37We've got next Tuesday, the dress rehearsal,
0:16:37 > 0:16:39then I go away filming abroad for two weeks
0:16:39 > 0:16:42and I come back the day of the show.
0:16:42 > 0:16:45One thing I'm finding is, on this occasion,
0:16:45 > 0:16:47I may not be able to blag it.
0:16:47 > 0:16:49I actually have to work hard.
0:17:04 > 0:17:07Considering he's only just started synchronised swimming,
0:17:07 > 0:17:09he's not doing too bad. Like, he's put itself into the routines
0:17:09 > 0:17:12and he's worked out where to go,
0:17:12 > 0:17:14but it's a bit too soon for the show.
0:17:14 > 0:17:16It's kind of like 50-50.
0:17:16 > 0:17:18Let's hope it goes well, kind of thing.
0:17:24 > 0:17:26'It's been a few days since my last rehearsal
0:17:26 > 0:17:29'and my confidence is at an all-time low
0:17:29 > 0:17:31'but it's a big day in Swansea.'
0:17:31 > 0:17:33Well, it's the evening of the dress rehearsal.
0:17:33 > 0:17:36I've got... I've got man flu,
0:17:36 > 0:17:39which we all know is a potential killer,
0:17:39 > 0:17:44and now we've got the dress rehearsal on top of everything.
0:17:44 > 0:17:47Yeah, I actually really, really want to be here.
0:17:48 > 0:17:51One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53One, two, three, four, five...
0:17:53 > 0:17:56I'm now at the stage where, the more I do the routine,
0:17:56 > 0:17:59the less well I think I know it.
0:17:59 > 0:18:00But it's time to get dressed up
0:18:00 > 0:18:03and get involved with the glamour of synchro.
0:18:03 > 0:18:07Which actually turns out to not be that glamorous.
0:18:07 > 0:18:10- What's this stuff now? - I don't know much about it.
0:18:10 > 0:18:12Well, you're putting it on with a paintbrush.
0:18:12 > 0:18:14It's like industrial stuff.
0:18:14 > 0:18:18'That stuff is gelatine made from various animal by-products
0:18:18 > 0:18:21'which keeps the hair looking perfect in the water.
0:18:21 > 0:18:24'All of a sudden, I want to be a vegetarian.'
0:18:24 > 0:18:26Oh, yeah, that's a stripe.
0:18:28 > 0:18:32Oh, now I look like a dirty old man. This is ridiculous. Greasy hair.
0:18:32 > 0:18:33This is horrible.
0:18:33 > 0:18:34What are you doing?
0:18:36 > 0:18:37What do you reckon? Looking good?
0:18:37 > 0:18:38'Cheers, Holly.
0:18:38 > 0:18:41'I didn't think it was possible to look more follicly challenged
0:18:41 > 0:18:43'but you've managed it.
0:18:44 > 0:18:47'Hair done, trunks on, it's time for our dress rehearsal.
0:18:59 > 0:19:01'Time for the backward roll,
0:19:01 > 0:19:04'a rather nice shot of my stomach - and success!
0:19:19 > 0:19:21'Another nice shot of my stomach
0:19:21 > 0:19:24'and a long lonely swim to the shore.'
0:19:29 > 0:19:31I'm absolutely shattered.
0:19:31 > 0:19:33It's one of the hardest things I've ever done.
0:19:33 > 0:19:36Halfway through, because of the distance we're covering in the pool,
0:19:36 > 0:19:40because we've been rehearsing in a smaller space,
0:19:40 > 0:19:42I'm just shattered. I wanted to give up.
0:19:42 > 0:19:44I wanted to cough the whole time.
0:19:44 > 0:19:45I wanted to cough the whole time.
0:19:47 > 0:19:51Next time we do it will be for real, the night of the show.
0:19:53 > 0:19:55'I obviously can't impress the girls with my Bollywood skills
0:19:55 > 0:19:59'so I've invited Anahat's sister, an expert in Bollywood,
0:19:59 > 0:20:03'to make them feel more insecure and therefore make me look better.'
0:20:03 > 0:20:06MUSIC: London Thumakda by Neha Kakkar
0:20:06 > 0:20:09'That seems to have backfired spectacularly.'
0:20:30 > 0:20:32Can I just say,
0:20:32 > 0:20:34I love Indian dancing,
0:20:34 > 0:20:36I love Indian costume,
0:20:36 > 0:20:38but, most of all,
0:20:38 > 0:20:39I love Indian food.
0:20:39 > 0:20:41Tuck in, guys. Come on.
0:20:44 > 0:20:46I'm going to go for some chicken.
0:20:46 > 0:20:48So, Megan, which is easiest,
0:20:48 > 0:20:50- synchronised swimming or Bollywood dancing?- Synchro.
0:20:50 > 0:20:51- You reckon?- Yeah.
0:20:51 > 0:20:53What is it about synchronised swimming
0:20:53 > 0:20:55that you really, really like?
0:20:55 > 0:20:59I like doing the teams and just it's a good way of making friends.
0:20:59 > 0:21:01And what's it been like teaching
0:21:01 > 0:21:03your synchronised swimming team-mates Bollywood?
0:21:03 > 0:21:04Bollywood's something I love
0:21:04 > 0:21:07and to be able to incorporate that into swimming where I'm not...
0:21:07 > 0:21:10Where there's, like, so many girls better than me
0:21:10 > 0:21:12and to be able to just teach them something, it's amazing.
0:21:12 > 0:21:14It's amazing to share the culture with them as well.
0:21:14 > 0:21:17Do you think I murdered the whole Bollywood thing in this dance?
0:21:17 > 0:21:20- I think you nailed it. - You think I've nailed it,
0:21:20 > 0:21:22- you think I've murdered it! - I think, if you tried,
0:21:22 > 0:21:24- you could get a career in Bollywood if you want.- You think so?
0:21:24 > 0:21:27- I think you nailed it.- It's something I've never done but...
0:21:27 > 0:21:30I think you could definitely do it.
0:21:30 > 0:21:32My last training session is done.
0:21:32 > 0:21:34Time to leave Swansea and go away to work.
0:21:34 > 0:21:37If I'm honest, it's a welcome break from the training.
0:21:37 > 0:21:39So the show is tomorrow.
0:21:39 > 0:21:42I should actually be in the swimming pool now with the rest of the team
0:21:42 > 0:21:44but, as you can see, I'm filming.
0:21:44 > 0:21:47I'm in Prague. I'm going to try and get in the swimming pool tonight
0:21:47 > 0:21:49when I get back to the hotel. Fingers crossed.
0:21:49 > 0:21:55But, until then, er-er-er-er-er...
0:21:55 > 0:21:56Still got the old magic.
0:21:56 > 0:21:58'Time to get back to the UK.
0:21:58 > 0:22:00'If I'm lucky, my flight will be delayed
0:22:00 > 0:22:03'and I won't be able to make the performance.
0:22:03 > 0:22:05'Sadly, no such luck for me.'
0:22:07 > 0:22:11So, my costume has just been dropped off.
0:22:11 > 0:22:13Oh, hello.
0:22:13 > 0:22:15Hello!
0:22:15 > 0:22:17Look at that!
0:22:17 > 0:22:18Look at that!
0:22:26 > 0:22:28Oh, that is awesome.
0:22:30 > 0:22:33'Time to head to Swansea for the big performance.
0:22:33 > 0:22:36'Also, time to put those meat products in your hair.'
0:22:36 > 0:22:38Anahat, I'm so nervous.
0:22:38 > 0:22:40Do you know where you're supposed to be?
0:22:40 > 0:22:41Well, I'm in the middle, drowning.
0:22:41 > 0:22:44- Do you remember how to get into the circle?- Yeah, yeah.
0:22:44 > 0:22:46As long as you've got that, we're good to go.
0:22:46 > 0:22:48I've been watching a video a little bit on the plane today.
0:22:48 > 0:22:50I think you'll be fine. I think we can do it.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53As long as we're all in time and we look like we know what we're doing,
0:22:53 > 0:22:55- it's going to be fine.- Great.
0:22:55 > 0:22:57'Anahat, ever the optimist.
0:22:57 > 0:22:59'Not like me.'
0:22:59 > 0:23:00I can't remember any of this.
0:23:00 > 0:23:03My mind has gone an absolute blank.
0:23:03 > 0:23:05This is going to be a disaster.
0:23:07 > 0:23:10'The routine is starting to get to me.
0:23:10 > 0:23:12'The audience have begun to arrive for the performance -
0:23:12 > 0:23:15'and then there's that costume.'
0:23:15 > 0:23:16Look at it.
0:23:16 > 0:23:20I mean, it's a cross between Slumdog Millionaire
0:23:20 > 0:23:22and Rocky Balboa.
0:23:23 > 0:23:25Plus those, right,
0:23:25 > 0:23:28which are designed to hide my gut.
0:23:28 > 0:23:30I'm not stupid, right. What they've done...
0:23:30 > 0:23:33They've said that my shirt is lifting in rehearsal, OK,
0:23:33 > 0:23:35so that you see my belly.
0:23:36 > 0:23:39So they've put these...
0:23:39 > 0:23:42They're between 15 and 20 kilos each,
0:23:42 > 0:23:43to hold the shirt down.
0:23:46 > 0:23:50I can barely sustain my own weight in the pool
0:23:50 > 0:23:52so I'm thinking, right...
0:23:55 > 0:23:57Oh! Whoops!
0:24:00 > 0:24:02Look! Look at it!
0:24:03 > 0:24:04People are laughing!
0:24:16 > 0:24:18'Before I fall apart completely,
0:24:18 > 0:24:21'here's Penny to try and get me back on track.'
0:24:21 > 0:24:24- Have you got a last bit of advice? - Remember to keep breathing,
0:24:24 > 0:24:27because you're going to be nervous but you've got to keep breathing
0:24:27 > 0:24:29otherwise your body will be exhausted.
0:24:29 > 0:24:30It'll be that anyway.
0:24:30 > 0:24:32I'm getting nervous for him now.
0:24:37 > 0:24:40Now it's the time we've all been waiting for,
0:24:40 > 0:24:45to see whether Wynne Evans will sink or swim with our 15-and-under team,
0:24:45 > 0:24:48the blue and the black team.
0:24:48 > 0:24:50'If I had 50 quid on it, it would be sink.
0:24:50 > 0:24:52'There's no turning back now.'
0:24:52 > 0:24:54MUSIC: Titli by Vishal-Shekhar
0:25:04 > 0:25:06'Ah, wish I'd kept the weights on now.
0:25:06 > 0:25:09'I'm beginning to think my stomach features more in this programme
0:25:09 > 0:25:10'than I do.
0:25:15 > 0:25:16'And again.
0:25:20 > 0:25:23'I think I may be losing weight in that shot.
0:25:31 > 0:25:33'Smile, big boy. Smile.
0:25:39 > 0:25:41'I look quite relaxed there.
0:25:41 > 0:25:43'Meanwhile, below the surface...
0:25:45 > 0:25:47'Yeah, there it is again.
0:25:47 > 0:25:48'Time for the backflip.
0:25:48 > 0:25:50'No, no, hang on.
0:25:50 > 0:25:51'That's forwards.
0:25:51 > 0:25:54'Oh, I bottled it at the last moment.
0:25:54 > 0:25:56'Still, he's none the wiser, is he?
0:26:04 > 0:26:07'Now might be a good time to put the lifeguard on standby.
0:26:19 > 0:26:21'Will this routine ever end?'
0:26:32 > 0:26:33APPLAUSE
0:26:33 > 0:26:35'I've made it to the end of the routine
0:26:35 > 0:26:37'but it's taken its toll.'
0:26:44 > 0:26:45That was so hard.
0:26:45 > 0:26:49I got absolutely shattered halfway through.
0:26:51 > 0:26:52Didn't manage the backflip.
0:26:54 > 0:26:55Bit gutted about that.
0:26:57 > 0:27:00Loved the first minute and a half of the routine,
0:27:00 > 0:27:02thought, "Yeah, this is going quite well,
0:27:02 > 0:27:04"getting all the moves in here,"
0:27:04 > 0:27:06crowd were clapping.
0:27:06 > 0:27:08It turned into a bit of a car crash after that
0:27:08 > 0:27:11but I enjoyed it. I did enjoy it.
0:27:11 > 0:27:13I really, really enjoyed it.
0:27:14 > 0:27:16'While I quietly have a heart attack in the corner,
0:27:16 > 0:27:18'it's time to find out
0:27:18 > 0:27:21'what Holly and Penny thought of my performance.'
0:27:21 > 0:27:23- Was it as hopeless as it felt? - No, no, it was fine.
0:27:23 > 0:27:27From the side here, it was good. It was good.
0:27:27 > 0:27:30You know, you kept up with them. You held your own.
0:27:30 > 0:27:32You've got to mark me out of 10 now, then.
0:27:32 > 0:27:34You've only trained with us about three weeks in total
0:27:34 > 0:27:36because you missed the last two sessions
0:27:36 > 0:27:39and what you've actually managed in three weeks is unbelievable
0:27:39 > 0:27:43and them girls put some really, really hard skills in there -
0:27:43 > 0:27:46especially for somebody who'd never done the sport before,
0:27:46 > 0:27:48so you've actually accomplished quite a lot.
0:27:48 > 0:27:52- I think I'm going to go 6.5. - Yeah, I was going to say 6.5-7.
0:27:52 > 0:27:54Yeah. Yeah.
