0:00:14 > 0:00:17And they've kind of got used to having him around, as we all have.

0:00:17 > 0:00:22But now, in 2017, he's announced his retirement.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25And I guess the big question is, what does that mean for him,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28what does that mean for these people here, and what does it mean

0:00:28 > 0:00:33for a sport for which he leaves so many iconic moments?

0:00:33 > 0:00:35# Top of the roster

0:00:35 > 0:00:37# Real deal you can see it in my posture

0:00:37 > 0:00:40# Seems like every time they take a shot they hit the crossbar

0:00:40 > 0:00:43# And I move like Neymar

0:00:43 > 0:00:45# Them boys ain't even on my radar

0:00:45 > 0:00:47# I do my own stunts no saviour

0:00:47 > 0:00:50# That is why I gotta stunt so major.

0:00:50 > 0:00:50# Hype!

0:00:50 > 0:00:52# Every time I'm around there's a hype

0:00:52 > 0:00:54# Touchdown and the crowd gets hyped.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56# Straight gassed got the whole place hyped.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59# I'm a bad boy and I do what I like.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00# Every time I'm around there's a hype.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04Usain Bolt streaking away from the field.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06It's gold for Usain Bolt!

0:01:06 > 0:01:07He's done it again!

0:01:07 > 0:01:11A new world record for Usain Bolt.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13He's going to win the gold!

0:01:13 > 0:01:14Bolt's going to do it again!

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Usain Bolt!

0:01:23 > 0:01:24Hello again.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Good to see you, all right.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27Yeah, good, good.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28Come on in.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29In the shade?

0:01:29 > 0:01:31No, no, you've got your own shade, mate.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32You got your own shade.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34# Oh cherry oh, cherry oh, baby

0:01:34 > 0:01:38# Don't you know I'm in need of thee?#.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Usain, a couple of years ago, you announced to all of us

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and to yourself that you are going to retire

0:01:43 > 0:01:45after the Worlds in London.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Is that still a decision you're happy with?

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Yeah.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Definitely still a decision I'm happy with.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54It's just been, I've done all I wanted to do,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56you know what I mean?

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Everybody wants me to continue, but it's not as simple as it is.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01I've done great in the sport.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04People just want to see more and more, you know what I mean?

0:02:04 > 0:02:07But you as a person have to decide that this is it.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10I don't want to continue and then at the end I start losing,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12because I hate losing.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14No regrets at all?

0:02:14 > 0:02:15No, there's no regrets.

0:02:15 > 0:02:20If you look at a lot of top athletes, that's the one thing

0:02:20 > 0:02:22there used to damage their career just a little bit by being

0:02:22 > 0:02:26so dominant throughout their career, retired then missed the sport

0:02:26 > 0:02:31and came back into the sport to something different.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33I don't think my coach will coach me either.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36I think he said, he actually said that to me.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38You retire, that's it.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Don't feel you're going to take a year or two off and then

0:02:41 > 0:02:44come back to me and go, oh, let's do this again.

0:02:44 > 0:02:45It's not going to happen.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Is he happy with you retiring?

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Has he tried to persuade you?

0:02:48 > 0:02:58No, I think he understands to the point where he knows if I'm

0:02:59 > 0:03:03not into it, I won't give it my all, so he asks me if I'm sure

0:03:03 > 0:03:05and he already told me, listen, if you wanted to go

0:03:05 > 0:03:08on for four more years, it would be easy for me,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09but he knows how I am.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12If I'm not motivated to do it then, then it's

0:03:12 > 0:03:14going to be hard for me so...

0:03:14 > 0:03:15Is there a little bit of trepidation?

0:03:15 > 0:03:17You're always going to be nervous.

0:03:17 > 0:03:17Definitely.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20But I'm also excited, you know what I mean,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22to try and move onto a different chapter of my life,

0:03:22 > 0:03:23try something new.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Just have some me time, you know what I mean?

0:03:26 > 0:03:29I'm excited but nervous at the same time.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Have you got any plans?

0:03:30 > 0:03:36Anything you'd really like to do?

0:03:36 > 0:03:38We have a lot of things we are working on.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40I still have two companies that we're working on.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42One big project that we just really started,

0:03:42 > 0:03:44to try and start a clinic in Jamaica.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47I think I have a lot more work, like more sponsor work,

0:03:47 > 0:03:50travelling a lot more when I retire than when I was running,

0:03:50 > 0:03:52so I'll have a lot more work to do.

0:03:52 > 0:03:53Will that keep you satisfied?

0:03:53 > 0:03:56Will that keep you waking up in the morning excited

0:03:56 > 0:03:57about what the week has ahead?

0:03:57 > 0:03:59Depends.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01It depends what I'm doing in that day.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04But I'll have more free time, you know what I mean,

0:04:04 > 0:04:10so it won't be as stressful as it used to be so I can travel,

0:04:10 > 0:04:13I can go on trips, do what I also want to do.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15I have a bet with my managers.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17They give me two years before I get a belly!

0:04:17 > 0:04:22I can't let that happen.

0:04:22 > 0:04:30# Always you, it was always you baby...

0:04:30 > 0:04:35# It was you that I saw in my dreams last night...#

0:04:35 > 0:04:39When he was a student, I was his teacher of Spanish.

0:04:39 > 0:04:46He had to be average at something, so average student.

0:04:46 > 0:04:53He was full of humour, given to pranks.

0:04:53 > 0:04:59He was taller than the average student, and in PE,

0:04:59 > 0:05:03he would decimate the opposition quite easily.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07Although at the time he was ragged in terms of his form.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12I was one of the senior athletes and he was much younger,

0:05:12 > 0:05:15but he was a force to reckon with.

0:05:15 > 0:05:21He was always meeting at our speed and even sometimes beat us.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24There was this one time when William Knibb had the best

0:05:24 > 0:05:284x100 team in western Jamaica.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32And we would go there, it was like us oozing to let

0:05:32 > 0:05:35everybody see what we have to show.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38For the students, I think it means the world to them.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41It is their measuring stick, so to speak.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44They aspire to be good at whatever they do.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47Having him walk these walls and reach where he is,

0:05:47 > 0:05:52then they know for them all things are possible.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56Not everybody excels academically so at least they can use

0:05:56 > 0:06:02the sports as a stepping stone to reach their goal.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05He was in fifth form.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08My boy, smart man.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10He is my champion!

0:06:10 > 0:06:14He is our champion at William Knibb, and in Trelawney

0:06:14 > 0:06:16and Jamaica as a whole.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19And it is hard for me to believe that he is going to put

0:06:19 > 0:06:21everything to rest in London.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24He wants to go and play for Manchester United

0:06:24 > 0:06:31and some of these teams, well, let's see what happens!

0:06:31 > 0:06:34In Jamaica, athletics is pretty much in the blood and nowhere

0:06:34 > 0:06:37is that more evident than here at the National Schools Championships

0:06:37 > 0:06:43or the Champs as they are known.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53This is where Usain Bolt started and it's a great

0:06:53 > 0:06:54testimony to the legacy that

0:06:54 > 0:06:57he's leaving behind in this country, and they'll be hoping that it goes

0:06:57 > 0:07:00on for a few more years after he's left.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11For me it's big, because that's where we see our talent.

0:07:11 > 0:07:16That's what helps us to see the talent and to develop

0:07:16 > 0:07:19the talent over the years, so for me, it's a massive thing.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21I think it's something that should continue for years

0:07:21 > 0:07:24and years to come, because it will help us to pick

0:07:24 > 0:07:26talent and then nurture it and to be world champions

0:07:26 > 0:07:31and Olympic champions also.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36I've been following Usain from about 14 years old,

0:07:36 > 0:07:39from boys Champs when he ran for William Knibb, and first broke

0:07:39 > 0:07:41the 200 metre record at the Champs.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44We've had great runners come before, but none of them have

0:07:44 > 0:07:47had their dominance and overall changed the sport like what Usain

0:07:47 > 0:07:49did for track and field.

0:07:49 > 0:07:54I went to the Championships when I was really young,

0:07:54 > 0:07:57when I was supposed to go, but my coach at the time wanted

0:07:57 > 0:07:59me to experience Champs before I actually went there

0:07:59 > 0:08:00at the right age.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03So for me, I just went there and experienced

0:08:03 > 0:08:06something magnificent, you know what I mean?

0:08:06 > 0:08:08It was like nothing I've ever been around.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10The energy was different.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13It was loud, it was packed.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16It was just everything that you would expect when you're

0:08:16 > 0:08:18watching the Olympics.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21It was that for me at the time.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24I've been to the last three Olympics, and to five

0:08:24 > 0:08:28World Championships so I followed Usain and the athletes thousands

0:08:28 > 0:08:33of miles around the world.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36I met Usain in 2002.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40He was a funny and loving youngster.

0:08:45 > 0:08:51The holder for sprinters aged 15, Usain Bolt of Jamaica,

0:08:51 > 0:08:55his best time in the heat is 20.58.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58A good bet for the gold medal in this final.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00There's no other greater feeling than competing

0:09:00 > 0:09:03in front of your home crowd, accomplishing something.

0:09:03 > 0:09:09I was the only individual gold at this Championship,

0:09:09 > 0:09:13so to do that for my country, to give them that joy,

0:09:13 > 0:09:18and to give them that glory, was nothing other than that.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Being the home crowd, people chanting your name,

0:09:20 > 0:09:23it's just unbelievable.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25A good start the first time, 200 final.

0:09:25 > 0:09:29Second from right is Usain Bolt, going well also is Vernon Christian.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31This is Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33Nice curve.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Christian going very well.

0:09:35 > 0:09:37Christian on the outside.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40Usain Bolt of Jamaica takes the lead in the 200 final.

0:09:40 > 0:09:41Heading towards the gold medal.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Usain Bolt is the World Junior cCampion.

0:09:43 > 0:09:4720.61, Usain Bolt the World Junior Champion and the city

0:09:47 > 0:09:56of Kingston comes alive.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Usain has put us on the map, with Bob Marley.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01I think Bob Marley and Usain Bolt are considered probably

0:10:01 > 0:10:05the best well-known Jamaicans.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12I just want to kind of flip back a year or two when you sort of made

0:10:12 > 0:10:15the decision about retiring and then you were looking, well,

0:10:15 > 0:10:19I don't know if you were looking forward to it, because it was a bit

0:10:19 > 0:10:21of a difficult year, 2015, the World Championships

0:10:21 > 0:10:23in Beijing, was there any point in that difficult period

0:10:23 > 0:10:27where you thought you might not get this far?

0:10:27 > 0:10:31No, for me, definitely, I just wanted, when I decided,

0:10:31 > 0:10:35I just genuinely wanted to retire after the Olympics, but I had one

0:10:35 > 0:10:38more year on my contract so, you know what...

0:10:38 > 0:10:40So it was a simple as that?

0:10:40 > 0:10:43One more year on the contract, one more year to keep training?

0:10:43 > 0:10:45And the fans, they asked me.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47When I said I'd probably retire after the Olympics they were like,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50no, you need to go one more year.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53So I was like, you know what, I have one more year

0:10:53 > 0:10:54on my contract, why not?

0:10:54 > 0:10:59So I decided to go with the fans, so it was good.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10It is top billing, the stadium full, the noise building,

0:11:10 > 0:11:12the atmosphere is wonderful.

0:11:12 > 0:11:16And all eyes on these two.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19Did what happened in 2015 almost reinvigorate you in some way,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22it was almost like a comeback for Usain, wasn't it?

0:11:22 > 0:11:26For me, it was a rough season.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29To this day, one of my roughest seasons I've ever been through.

0:11:29 > 0:11:37But for me, it just shows the world that I have to be a champion.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45But for me, it just shows the will that I have to be a champion.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47And what I always say is anything is possible

0:11:47 > 0:11:49because through the whole season people were doubting me,

0:11:49 > 0:11:52people were saying Usain is not going to make this one,

0:11:52 > 0:11:55to the point where at times, small doubts crept in because I wasn't

0:11:55 > 0:11:57getting to the form I needed to be.

0:11:57 > 0:12:03Took me a while to get going, so for me, even in my mind

0:12:03 > 0:12:06it wasa little bit of a doubt but with the confidence of my coach

0:12:06 > 0:12:09and the people around me, they kind of lifted me up

0:12:09 > 0:12:11and helped me to push through and get through that season.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Bolt will attempt to defend his world titles in Beijing against

0:12:14 > 0:12:16Justin Gatlin, banned twice for taking illegal drugs.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18Did you genuinely believe you were going to beat Gatlin?

0:12:18 > 0:12:21When I started out, through the season, I had my doubts.

0:12:21 > 0:12:24But when I got to the Championship and my coach says listen,

0:12:24 > 0:12:27you'll be fine, you are a champion, you know what it takes to win,

0:12:27 > 0:12:31You know how it is, so don't worry, go out and just execute them.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34After that I was like, do you know what, let's just do this,

0:12:34 > 0:12:35you know what I mean?

0:12:35 > 0:12:36The confidence came back.

0:12:36 > 0:12:37I was ready.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39You're still going to get a little bit nervous

0:12:39 > 0:12:41but I was much more confident, actually, when I got

0:12:41 > 0:12:43to the Championship than throughout the season.

0:12:43 > 0:12:44Men's 100 metre final.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47CHEERING.

0:12:47 > 0:12:48Bolt gets out pretty well, so does Rogers.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50Gatlin has got out a little bit better.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52Bolt and Gatlin are right together.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53It's Gatlin, and Usain Bolt,

0:12:53 > 0:12:57and Bolt gets it!

0:12:57 > 0:13:00Usain Bolt!

0:13:00 > 0:13:04He's saved his title!

0:13:04 > 0:13:05He's saved his reputation.

0:13:05 > 0:13:10He may have even saved his sport.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14I needed to win, that's a fact.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17For me, I tried to avoid talking about good and evil

0:13:17 > 0:13:19and bad stuff like that, but I knew what it was,

0:13:19 > 0:13:21I knew what I to do.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23Number one, OK.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27Number one all day every day.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32Usain Bolt continues to go away, Bolt's got away.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34Two golds for Bolt.

0:13:34 > 0:13:40Too good for Gatlin.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47I guess through your career that the 100 metres in this period

0:13:47 > 0:13:51has, it's not been the event which is always had good headlines.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53How have you coped with that three or career?

0:13:53 > 0:13:56For me, I've learned at the start to just ignore it all,

0:13:56 > 0:14:00you know what I mean?

0:14:00 > 0:14:03It hard to ignore it because as soon as it goes away, it comes back.

0:14:03 > 0:14:07Yes, I'm not going to be pleased that there may be athletes

0:14:07 > 0:14:10in my race that are taking drugs but I can't, what can I do?

0:14:10 > 0:14:13I have to just focus on running and winning,

0:14:13 > 0:14:15even if they are in the race.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18But you have been directly affected yourself, you have lost one

0:14:18 > 0:14:20of your gold medals because of it?

0:14:20 > 0:14:21It's true.

0:14:21 > 0:14:22How does that make you feel?

0:14:22 > 0:14:24I'm not happy about it.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Usain Bolt has lost one of his nine Olympic gold medals

0:14:27 > 0:14:30and his perfect triple triple of games sprint victories.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33It is after Jamaican team-mate Nesta Carter was found guilty

0:14:33 > 0:14:39of doping at the 2008 Beijing Games.

0:14:39 > 0:14:43I haven't actually seen Nesta since that has actually happened,

0:14:43 > 0:14:45for me and him to really have a conversation, to

0:14:45 > 0:14:48say, all right, what happened?

0:14:48 > 0:14:51So, initially when I heard that I had to

0:14:51 > 0:14:53give back my medal, I was unhappy and I was upset.

0:14:53 > 0:14:57But then, I was like, you know what, I can't be upset with

0:14:57 > 0:15:00somebody that I haven't talked to face-to-face, to see and to hear

0:15:00 > 0:15:05and to see in his face and to listen to what he has

0:15:05 > 0:15:08to say to me, you know what I mean?

0:15:08 > 0:15:10I have no power over this any more.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12You can't get too angry about something you can't

0:15:12 > 0:15:14really change, you know?

0:15:14 > 0:15:17All I have to do is to continue getting tested and proving to

0:15:17 > 0:15:18the world that I'm fine.

0:15:18 > 0:15:33Because it shows that if you cheat, you will

0:15:33 > 0:15:38get caught.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41Do you have any desire in your retirement, maybe you don't

0:15:41 > 0:15:43quite know, is there anything in you that

0:15:43 > 0:15:44thinks, maybe I could do

0:15:44 > 0:15:46something in that period of my life?

0:15:46 > 0:15:49Well, definitely, I've been talking to the president of the IAAF

0:15:49 > 0:15:51and I've been fine to figure out, what could I do

0:15:51 > 0:15:54at the end of my career to help the sports.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56We've been in discussion, mainly him and my agent,

0:15:56 > 0:15:57to try to figure out

0:15:57 > 0:16:00things that I could do at the end of my career,

0:16:00 > 0:16:01and I look forward to

0:16:01 > 0:16:03working with the sports, because I know, when I walk

0:16:03 > 0:16:05away, there will be a gap.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08So, if I can help to sustain it until someone else comes along,

0:16:08 > 0:16:11that can really help to push to sport and build it,

0:16:11 > 0:16:20then I'll be happy.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24For me, my childhood was perfect, I wouldn't change anything

0:16:24 > 0:16:25about my childhood.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27I grew up playing cricket, running in the streets,

0:16:27 > 0:16:28playing football in the streets.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30The whole community was a tightly-knit group,

0:16:30 > 0:16:33and I enjoy going back home and just being a part of it.

0:16:33 > 0:16:34It's wonderful.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37Well, of course, I'm a little bit disappointed because I thought

0:16:37 > 0:16:39he could go on for a few more years.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42But he is the one in charge, he makes the decision -

0:16:42 > 0:16:44as parents, we just have to go with it.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47He was diagnosed as a hyperactive child, so he would always be moving,

0:16:47 > 0:16:48climbing, always doing something.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50So, you have to watch him.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53So, it was very difficult in the early age.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56Up to this day, my parents have been the most influential on my career,

0:16:56 > 0:16:59you know what I mean?

0:16:59 > 0:17:03My dad made the decision for me to really go into track and field.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06So, throughout my career, I've always had different sort

0:17:06 > 0:17:09of people throughout my career which has really helped me.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Mrs Thorpe, which was the head of sports department

0:17:12 > 0:17:14when I was at school, she really supported me

0:17:14 > 0:17:18and helped me to push on, and always tried to keep me focused,

0:17:18 > 0:17:21because I was a mischievous kid when I was in high school!

0:17:21 > 0:17:28He remains the same person, the same person.

0:17:28 > 0:17:33Sometimes you would not even know that this is a world champion

0:17:33 > 0:17:36that you are talking to.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40All of this have to do with his background,

0:17:40 > 0:17:41his parents, right?

0:17:41 > 0:17:44They are humble people.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46I don't know what he's going to do.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48We are trying to sit down and talk with him,

0:17:48 > 0:17:50what's he going to do?

0:17:50 > 0:17:53I don't get it out of him yet, so I'm not sure

0:17:53 > 0:17:55what he's going to do.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58But I know, he's going to go into some business and so forth.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Maybe he will still stay in the sports, to do

0:18:00 > 0:18:03some work, I'm not sure.

0:18:03 > 0:18:09Rio almost looked easy, given 2015 etc, but I'm assuming

0:18:28 > 0:18:31Rio almost looked easy, given 2015 etc, but I'm assuming

0:18:31 > 0:18:37it was nothing like that?

0:18:37 > 0:18:41Yeah, it was, I would say, it's never easy.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43But I was in much better shape for Rio.

0:18:43 > 0:18:47But in track and field, nothing is ever easy,

0:18:47 > 0:18:51the workload that it takes to keep on top, or to get the level that

0:18:51 > 0:18:56you need to be to compete at the best, it's no joke.

0:18:56 > 0:19:01Justin Gatlin is in lane four, Usain Bolt is in lane six.

0:19:01 > 0:19:05The Olympic 100m final.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08Gatlin gets away well, and Bolt just left a little bit in the box.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10It's Gatlin leading at the moment, and Gatlin is charging.

0:19:10 > 0:19:14But here comes Usain Bolt, and Bolt is going to take it!

0:19:14 > 0:19:14Usain Bolt gets it!

0:19:14 > 0:19:159.80!

0:19:15 > 0:19:18A magnificent seven!

0:19:18 > 0:19:25The odyssey continues!

0:19:25 > 0:19:27Listen to the noise in Rio de Janeiro!

0:19:27 > 0:19:29Listen to the adulation!

0:19:29 > 0:19:35Look at the love for this man!

0:19:35 > 0:19:37Oh, the atmosphere was good - it was better than I

0:19:37 > 0:19:42thought it would be.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45But for me, I think all three Olympics played a very important

0:19:45 > 0:19:49part in making me who I am today, you know what I mean?

0:19:49 > 0:19:53So, I can't say, this was about better one...

0:19:53 > 0:19:58So, I can't say, this was a better one...

0:19:58 > 0:20:00But definitely, London was the best one, atmosphere-wise,

0:20:00 > 0:20:03Beijing was good, but Rio was really surprising, the energy

0:20:03 > 0:20:05and the amount of people that actually came out and supported,

0:20:05 > 0:20:06so that was good.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08Who's going to win this one?

0:20:08 > 0:20:10USA in the lead, but Bolt has got up with Japan.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13And Usain Bolt is doing what he always does, bringing it home!

0:20:13 > 0:20:14For Jamaica!

0:20:14 > 0:20:15It's gold again!

0:20:15 > 0:20:18History, history, history, history!

0:20:18 > 0:20:24Usain Bolt, the greatest ever!

0:20:39 > 0:20:42The World Champs - can you go to London as motivated

0:20:42 > 0:20:44as you were in Rio, in Beijing?

0:20:44 > 0:20:45For sure.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48The one thing which keeps me going is...

0:20:48 > 0:20:50Is losing!

0:20:50 > 0:20:51I can't lose, you know what I mean?

0:20:51 > 0:20:55It's just one of those things.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58I've done all I can do in the sport, but to go out

0:20:58 > 0:20:59losing is not my thing.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03I definitely want to go out and do my best, as always,

0:21:03 > 0:21:06to give the fans one of the best goodbyes, if possible,

0:21:06 > 0:21:08you know what I mean?

0:21:08 > 0:21:11To give the fans a show, because that's what they want

0:21:11 > 0:21:13to see, they want to see me competing at my best.

0:21:13 > 0:21:14Just say goodbye in style.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18So, I'm definitely going to train hard, which I am doing,

0:21:18 > 0:21:21and just try to stay on top of things and push myself

0:21:21 > 0:21:23throughout until August.

0:21:23 > 0:21:25So, nobody's going to worry you in London,

0:21:25 > 0:21:27no new names to look out for?

0:21:27 > 0:21:31For me, I don't...

0:21:31 > 0:21:35You know me.

0:21:35 > 0:21:40I don't really worry about people until the time is right!

0:21:40 > 0:21:43But you don't know who's going to show up.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45You know what I mean?

0:21:45 > 0:21:47Over the years, as you've seen through my career,

0:21:47 > 0:21:49there's always somebody else, so, I never try to

0:21:49 > 0:21:50pinpoint one person.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53So, I just sit and watch see what happens when it gets there.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Nobody going to turn into a Usain Bolt in the future

0:21:55 > 0:21:57at the minute, in Jamaica?

0:21:57 > 0:21:58That's a tough ask.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01For me, I've seen, I've learned to just sit and watch now.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03There's a few athletes that I've named over the years that

0:22:03 > 0:22:05have really let me down!

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Because I think it's so much easier for athletes now,

0:22:07 > 0:22:10for their first contracts, they make so much money,

0:22:10 > 0:22:13it's almost like football and stuff, you get paid so easily.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15It's all about want, I've told De Grasse, listen, yes,

0:22:15 > 0:22:18you did well at the Olympics, but do you want it?

0:22:18 > 0:22:19People say, De Grasse is like...

0:22:19 > 0:22:24We'll see.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27Because I've seen so many athletes done great things

0:22:27 > 0:22:31when they're young and then, because they done it when they're

0:22:31 > 0:22:34young, they get paid, and then they start going

0:22:34 > 0:22:36in the wrong direction.

0:22:36 > 0:22:39So, me, I try not to name names any more, I just sit and watch.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42London week as you said will be a farewell to the fans,

0:22:42 > 0:22:44many of whom would have been there in 2012.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46Still happy memories of those Games?

0:22:46 > 0:22:47Always.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50I think it's the right place to go out, because I know

0:22:50 > 0:22:52London's going to be packed, it's going to be massive,

0:22:52 > 0:22:59people are just happy and the energy in the city is going to be great.

0:22:59 > 0:23:03So, I'm looking forward to it, man, I'm really excited to go

0:23:03 > 0:23:07there and to compete again, because for me, it was one of

0:23:07 > 0:23:09the best Championships of my life.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13And here comes Usain Bolt!

0:23:13 > 0:23:17He's pulling away, he's going to win the gold!

0:23:17 > 0:23:18The champion becomes a legend!

0:23:18 > 0:23:23Every day, the stadium was just always packed with people,

0:23:23 > 0:23:26and just cheering on everybody and giving you a great feeling.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29So, for me, it was brilliant, so I'm looking forward to going back

0:23:29 > 0:23:30in that atmosphere again.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33We had Super Saturday, with Mo and Jess and Greg Rutherford -

0:23:33 > 0:23:37I think you had heats or semis that day - can you remember anything

0:23:37 > 0:23:40about Super Saturday?

0:23:40 > 0:23:43I thought it was loud for me, until Mo and Jess came on!

0:23:43 > 0:23:46Oh, my god, it could get louder than this, you know?!

0:23:46 > 0:23:50So, for me, just feeling that energy, and as you guys know,

0:23:50 > 0:23:54I feed off the energy of the crowd, it gives me that sense

0:23:54 > 0:23:59of relief and happiness, that these people have come to see

0:23:59 > 0:24:04you compete at your best and perform.

0:24:04 > 0:24:08For me, I really enjoy it, so I know it's going to be

0:24:08 > 0:24:09just out of this world.

0:24:09 > 0:24:11I hope I don't cry at the end, though.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13I was going to say that - will you get emotional?

0:24:13 > 0:24:15I don't know.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17If I get emotional in Jamaica, I'll definitely get emotional in London.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20Let's see what happens!

0:24:20 > 0:24:24I'm not an emotional person, but to know that this

0:24:24 > 0:24:26will be your last race, in a Championship...

0:24:26 > 0:24:29We'll see.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31You can hide it with a bit of sweat.

0:24:31 > 0:24:33Yeah.

0:24:33 > 0:24:39I sweat a lot, so, we'll see!

0:24:45 > 0:24:47It's maybe hard for you to assess, but what do you think

0:24:47 > 0:24:51you leave behind?

0:24:51 > 0:24:55Well, for me, just a great legacy, you know what I mean?

0:24:55 > 0:24:57To show to the kids that anything is possible.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59That you can do it without cheating, you know what I mean?

0:24:59 > 0:25:03I think that's one of the biggest things I'm happy that

0:25:03 > 0:25:07I can leave in the sport, that you can do it without cheating.

0:25:07 > 0:25:10If you're going to do this, it's going to be hard work and dedication

0:25:10 > 0:25:11and a lot of sacrifice.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14Are you going to miss the hard work, the sacrifice?

0:25:14 > 0:25:17No!

0:25:17 > 0:25:19Definitely not going to miss all of that!

0:25:19 > 0:25:21But I will miss the competition.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23Think that's one of the biggest things, the hardest things

0:25:23 > 0:25:26for me to do, is always, go into a stadium and see

0:25:26 > 0:25:28competition, feel the energy, then you feel like you just

0:25:28 > 0:25:33want to go out there and run.

0:25:33 > 0:25:37I think that's going to be one of the hardest things for me,

0:25:37 > 0:25:39watching the 100m finals at the Olympics and the World

0:25:39 > 0:25:42Championships, that's going to be one of the hardest things.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44It's not going to mean that he's going to fade into oblivion.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47He's going to be doing other things, I'm sure,

0:25:47 > 0:25:51that he's going to create an impact.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55And if he didn't, I think he's done enough now for his name to go

0:25:55 > 0:25:57on and on and on for a LONG time to come.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00I don't know what what we're going to do when he's gone.

0:26:00 > 0:26:05But having Usain as a Jamaican, I'm so proud, I'm so happy.

0:26:05 > 0:26:13You know, I feel like his second or third mother, you know?!

0:26:13 > 0:26:15Even though we'll have people coming again running fast,

0:26:15 > 0:26:18but the overall character of Usain Bolt, I don't think I'll

0:26:18 > 0:26:21have that again in my lifetime.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24I'm not even sure if my kids will see that again in their lifetime.

0:26:24 > 0:26:28He's one in 1 million.

0:26:28 > 0:26:32Well, I can't be more proud than I am, because sometimes

0:26:32 > 0:26:35I wonder, I just focus and say, well, just imagine, I am the father

0:26:35 > 0:26:39of the world's fastest man, he's so popular across the entire world.

0:26:39 > 0:26:41What?!

0:26:41 > 0:26:43So it goes.

0:26:43 > 0:26:45For me, for the country, for the Caribbean, for the world

0:26:45 > 0:26:48of track, we owe our gratitude to Usain Bolt.

0:26:48 > 0:26:53And we thank him.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56Great guy.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59Do you understand the impact you've had, particularly here in Jamaica?

0:26:59 > 0:27:02Well, definitely, over the years, I've learnt to understand,

0:27:02 > 0:27:05and to see what I've done through other people's eyes and just

0:27:05 > 0:27:07by watching and listening.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10And people keep reminding me, even if you don't know yourself,

0:27:10 > 0:27:11people keep reminding you that you've done such great...

0:27:11 > 0:27:15I've done Jamaica proud, and stuff.

0:27:15 > 0:27:18So, over the years doing this, I've really learnt to understand

0:27:18 > 0:27:20the impact that I've heard on the sports, just

0:27:20 > 0:27:24by people themselves.

0:27:24 > 0:27:29To be role models to the kids and for everybody, it's

0:27:29 > 0:27:31something that I enjoy, you know what I mean?

0:27:31 > 0:27:34Because when I was growing up, I wanted to be like Michael

0:27:34 > 0:27:35Jordan, Muhammad Ali.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38So, when kids say, Usain, you've inspired me to do greater,

0:27:38 > 0:27:42or, thank you for being such a hero, it feels good, you know what I mean?

0:27:42 > 0:27:48I live for this, so it's good.

0:27:48 > 0:27:52I really enjoyed this brief visit, because it's helped cement for me

0:27:52 > 0:27:54a lot of the thoughts I already had about Usain Bolt.

0:27:54 > 0:27:57I've had some of my greatest moments in terms of sitting

0:27:57 > 0:28:00in the commentary box, commentating on him,

0:28:00 > 0:28:06and I really should have thanked him more for that!

0:28:06 > 0:28:10The problem that we've all got, then, is, what now?

0:28:10 > 0:28:14There's no turning back, he is leaving, he is going.

0:28:14 > 0:28:19He leaves behind all of these great memories.

0:28:19 > 0:28:22And despite what anybody might say, despite people saying that sport

0:28:22 > 0:28:25goes on, and athletics will be OK, there's one thing which they can't
