:00:17. > :00:21.How exciting! It's me, Joel, and welcome back to this final

:00:22. > :00:27.instalment of Doctor Who's greatest Monsters and Villains weekend. So

:00:28. > :00:30.after three nights, thousands of votes, and countless pairs of soiled

:00:31. > :00:37.underwear, we are finally here at our ultimate baddie.

:00:38. > :00:42.You're not telling me you don't know what's coming. But before I reveal

:00:43. > :00:46.your champion, let's just take a quick look at some of those monsters

:00:47. > :01:04.and villains that didn't make the list.

:01:05. > :01:12.So here it is. Your number one Monster and Villain. They are the

:01:13. > :01:15.stuff of nightmares. Their name is synonymous with Doctor Who, and can

:01:16. > :01:18.be identified with the uttering of one, four syllable word. Hang on a

:01:19. > :01:31.second... As if they need any more of an

:01:32. > :01:43.introduction. In first place it is...the Daleks.

:01:44. > :02:04.Exterminate. Would you care for some tea?

:02:05. > :02:10.I have no understanding of the word. These creatures are pure hate in a

:02:11. > :02:16.life form, Who were a genetically-modified creation of the

:02:17. > :02:23.evil scientist Davros. My remarkable creations. Is he any relation to

:02:24. > :02:28.Bobby Davros, or is that Davro? Whatever. Anyway, the Daleks are the

:02:29. > :02:32.sworn enemies of the Doctor, first appearing way back in 1963. And the

:02:33. > :02:41.rest, as they say, is history. Slash present, slash future.

:02:42. > :02:50.That is the real Dalek creature inside. It is a mutation. The Dalek

:02:51. > :02:53.race were genetically engineered. With all emotions except hate being

:02:54. > :02:56.removed, the Daleks evolved to become the perfect machines of war.

:02:57. > :03:00.Great big alien death machine defeated by a flight of stairs.

:03:01. > :03:03.Everyone has their Achilles heel. Superman has Kryptonite, I have

:03:04. > :03:11.reading, and Achilles...has his heel. And so what? The Daleks have

:03:12. > :03:13.stairs. But do you really think a planet conquering race like the

:03:14. > :03:28.Daleks would be stopped by something as simple as stairs? Think again.

:03:29. > :03:30.Elevate. It may sound silly now, but the toilet plunger, trash-can

:03:31. > :03:33.hybrid, coupled with that chilling electronic shriek, struck terror

:03:34. > :03:37.into the hearts of many of our parents, and their parents before

:03:38. > :03:41.them. And as such, the Dalek is now a part of television folklore. And

:03:42. > :03:44.if your parents are to be believed, part of that folklore is that the

:03:45. > :03:48.mere thought of the Daleks would send them running for cover behind

:03:49. > :03:51.the sofa. This tells me two things. One, the Daleks truly are the most

:03:52. > :03:54.terrifying things in the galaxy. And two, people's houses were a lot

:03:55. > :04:05.bigger back then, if their sofas were anywhere but up against a wall.

:04:06. > :04:12.Exterminate. Coming up, the Doctor comes face to face with the last of

:04:13. > :04:15.the Daleks, who is being held in a secret bunker by a collector of

:04:16. > :04:18.alien technology. But how deadly can a captive Dalek be? Let's find out

:04:19. > :04:31.as we watch your greatest monster and villain in...Dalek. Laters.

:04:32. > :04:33.ROSE: So what is it? What's wrong?

:04:34. > :04:37.I don't know. Some kind of signal, drawing the Tardis off course.

:04:38. > :04:40.Where are we? Earth. Utah, North America.

:04:41. > :04:44.About half a mile underground. And...when are we?

:04:45. > :04:56.God, that's so close. I should be 26!

:04:57. > :05:08.they must've spent a fortune on this.

:05:09. > :05:14.That's the mileometer from the Roswell spaceship.

:05:15. > :05:17.That's a bit of Slitheen! That's a Slitheen's arm -

:05:18. > :05:41.The stuff of nightmares, reduced to an exhibit.

:05:42. > :05:44.I'm getting old. Is that where the signal's coming from?

:05:45. > :05:48.Nah, it's stone dead. The signal's alive.

:05:49. > :06:47.If someone's collecting aliens, that makes you Exhibit A.

:06:48. > :07:00.'Attention all personnel. Bad Wolf 1 descending, Bad Wolf 1 descending.'

:07:01. > :07:03.On behalf of all of us, I wanna wish you a very happy birthday, sir.

:07:04. > :07:32.What is your name? Goddard, sir. Diana Goddard.

:07:33. > :07:36.So where's the English kid? Sir, sir!

:07:37. > :07:40.I bought ten more artefacts, Mr Van Statten. Let me see 'em.

:07:41. > :07:51.In-tru-da window, that was funny! THEY LAUGH OBEDIENTLY

:07:52. > :07:54.Bring them in. And tell Simmons I want to visit my little pet.

:07:55. > :07:58.Simmons, you'd better give me good news! Is it talking?

:07:59. > :08:13.Is that any good? DRILLING RESUMES

:08:14. > :08:18.Paid $800,000 for it. What does it do?

:08:19. > :08:25.I really wouldn't hold it like that. Shut it!

:08:26. > :08:31.Is it dangerous? No, it just looks silly.

:08:32. > :08:43.You just need to be... INSTRUMENT HUMS

:08:44. > :09:05.It reacts to the smallest fingerprint.

:09:06. > :09:23.I'm the Doctor. And who are you? Like you don't know(!)

:09:24. > :09:26.We're hidden away with the most valuable collection

:09:27. > :09:28.of extraterrestrial artefacts in the world,

:09:29. > :09:31.and you just stumbled in by mistake(?)

:09:32. > :09:35.Pretty much sums me up, yeah. Question is, how did you get in?

:09:36. > :09:38.53 floors down, with your little cat-burglar accomplice.

:09:39. > :09:41.Quite a collector yourself - she's rather pretty.

:09:42. > :09:54.And who's he when he's at home? Mr Van Statten owns the internet.

:09:55. > :10:03.So you're an expert in everything, except the things in your museum.

:10:04. > :10:11.I know how good I am. Yet I captured you right next to the Cage.

:10:12. > :10:16.You tell me. The Cage contains my one living specimen.

:10:17. > :10:19.What's that? Like you don't know. Show me. You wanna see it?

:10:20. > :10:22.Blimey, you can smell the testosterone.

:10:23. > :10:25.Goddard! Inform the Cage we're heading down.

:10:26. > :10:30.Go and canoodle or spoon or whatever it is you British do.

:10:31. > :10:48.Inside? Inside what? Welcome back, sir!

:10:49. > :10:53.I've had to take the power down - the Metaltron is resting. Metaltron?

:10:54. > :10:58.Although I'd much prefer to find out its real name.

:10:59. > :11:32.Don't open that door until we get a result.

:11:33. > :11:41.Look, I'm sorry about this, Mr Van Statten might think he's clever,

:11:42. > :11:46.but never mind him. I've come to help. I'm the Doctor.

:11:47. > :11:50.MECHANICAL VOICE: Doc...tor...

:11:51. > :12:03.Let me out! EXTERMINATE!

:12:04. > :12:06.Sir, it's going to kill him! It's talking!

:12:07. > :12:37.The great space dustbin. How does it feel?

:12:38. > :13:07.What does that mean? I am a soldier.

:13:08. > :13:12.Well, you're never gonna get any. Not ever.

:13:13. > :13:18.They're never gonna come. Your race is dead. You all burnt.

:13:19. > :13:20.All of you. Ten million ships on fire.

:13:21. > :13:24.The entire Dalek race wiped out, in one second.

:13:25. > :13:27.I watched it happen. I made it happen.

:13:28. > :14:09.Oh, and I caught your little signal.

:14:10. > :14:18.But there's no-one else coming cos there's no-one else left.

:14:19. > :14:47.You're right! Yeah, OK! You've got a point.

:14:48. > :15:03.DALEK SCREAMS Have pity!

:15:04. > :15:16.I saved your life. Now talk to me. Godammit, talk to me!

:15:17. > :15:36.I am Henry van Statten - now recognise me!

:15:37. > :15:49.Mr Van Statten sort of lets me do my own thing,

:15:50. > :16:15.Spacecraft, aliens, visitors to Earth.

:16:16. > :16:20.That's amazing. I know it sounds incredible.

:16:21. > :16:24.But I honestly believe the whole universe is just teeming with life.

:16:25. > :16:31.And you do what? Sit here and catalogue it? Best job in the world!

:16:32. > :16:36.Travel amongst the stars and see it for real.

:16:37. > :16:40.Yeah. I'd give anything. I don't think it's ever gonna happen.

:16:41. > :16:42.Not in our lifetimes. Oh, you never know.

:16:43. > :16:55.I think they're nutters. Yeah. Me too.

:16:56. > :17:05.Sorry, but...yeah. I can't help it - I was born clever.

:17:06. > :17:09.When I was eight, I logged onto the US defence system.

:17:10. > :17:12.Nearly caused World War Three. What, and that's funny, is it?

:17:13. > :17:17.You should've been there. Just to see them running about. Fantastic!

:17:18. > :17:23.Are you and him...? No, we're just friends. Good.

:17:24. > :17:33.So, wouldn't you rather be downstairs?

:17:34. > :17:36.You've got these bits of metal and stuff,

:17:37. > :17:39.but Mr Van Statten's got a living creature down there.

:17:40. > :17:42.Yeah. Well, I did ask, but he keeps it to himself.

:17:43. > :17:47.it doesn't take long to patch through on the comms system.

:17:48. > :18:07.It's just like this great big pepperpot.

:18:08. > :18:21.The metal's just battle armour. The real Dalek creature is inside.

:18:22. > :18:28.Every single emotion was removed, except hate.

:18:29. > :18:31.Genetically engineered? By whom? By a genius, van Statten.

:18:32. > :18:35.By a man who was king of his own little world. You'd like him.

:18:36. > :18:38.It's been on Earth for over 50 years. Sold at private auction,

:18:39. > :18:41.moving between collections. Why would it be a threat now?

:18:42. > :18:44.Because I'm here. How did it get to Earth?

:18:45. > :18:52.burnt in its crater for three days before anybody could get near it.

:18:53. > :18:56.And all that time, it was screaming. Must have gone insane.

:18:57. > :19:01.The only survivor. You talked about a war?

:19:02. > :19:04.The Time War. The final battle between my people and the Daleks.

:19:05. > :19:08.But you survived too. Not by choice.

:19:09. > :19:12.This means the Dalek isn't the only alien on Earth, Doctor.

:19:13. > :19:25.There's you. The only one of your kind in existence.

:19:26. > :19:35.Two hearts. A binary vascular system!

:19:36. > :19:39.Oh, I am so gonna patent this. So that's your secret.

:19:40. > :19:41.You don't just collect stuff, you scavenge it.

:19:42. > :19:45.This technology has been falling to Earth for centuries.

:19:46. > :19:49.All it took was the right mind to use it properly.

:19:50. > :19:53.Oh, the advances I've made from alien junk -

:19:54. > :19:56.you have no idea, Doctor! Broadband? Roswell.

:19:57. > :20:00.Just last year, my scientists cultivated bacteria

:20:01. > :20:03.from the Russian Crater, and do you know what we found?

:20:04. > :20:16.Why sell one cure when I can sell a thousand palliatives?

:20:17. > :20:20.D'you know what a Dalek is, van Statten?

:20:21. > :20:25.It does what it was born to do, for the survival of its species.

:20:26. > :20:36.Listen to me! That thing downstairs is gonna kill every last one of us!

:20:37. > :20:44.But it's woken up! It knows I'm here! It's gonna get out!

:20:45. > :20:48.Van Statten, I swear, no-one on this base is safe.

:20:49. > :21:23.My name's Rose Tyler. My friend can help. He's called the Doctor.

:21:24. > :23:05.What ya gonna do? Sucker me to death?

:23:06. > :23:11.It's killing him! Do something! Condition red.

:23:12. > :23:22.You've got to keep it in that cell! Doctor, it's all my fault.

:23:23. > :23:26.I've sealed the compartment. The lock's got a billion combinations.

:23:27. > :24:05.Rose, get out of there! GUNSHOTS

:24:06. > :24:09.De Maggio, get the civilians out alive. That is your job, got that?

:24:10. > :24:34.We're losing power. It's draining the base.

:24:35. > :24:39.Oh, my God. It's draining the entire power supplies of the whole of Utah.

:24:40. > :24:43.Sir! The entire West Coast has gone down!

:24:44. > :24:47.It's not just energy. That Dalek just absorbed the entire internet.

:24:48. > :25:07.The cameras in the Vault are down. We've only got emergency power.

:25:08. > :25:13.Kill it now! All guards to converge on the Metaltron Cage immediately.

:25:14. > :25:35.Agh! GUNSHOTS

:25:36. > :25:58.Tell them to stop shooting at it. But it's killing them!

:25:59. > :26:01.They're dispensable - that Dalek is unique.

:26:02. > :26:05.I don't want a scratch on its bodywork! Do you hear me?

:26:06. > :26:27.That's the Cage, and that's the Dalek.

:26:28. > :26:39.Rose is down there. I won't let that happen, got that?

:26:40. > :26:42.It has to go through this area. What's that? Weapons testing.

:26:43. > :26:52.Stairs! That's more like it! Hasn't got legs - it's stuck!

:26:53. > :27:19.Now listen to me. I demand that you return to your Cage.

:27:20. > :27:23.If you want to negotiate, Mr Van Statten will be willing to talk.

:27:24. > :27:26.I accept that we imprisoned you, and maybe that was wrong,

:27:27. > :27:31.but people have died, and that stops - right now.

:27:32. > :27:33.The killing stops. Have you got that?

:27:34. > :27:37.I demand that you surrender. Is that clear?

:27:38. > :28:18.I thought you were the great expert, Doctor.

:28:19. > :28:21.If you're so impressive, why not just reason with this Dalek?

:28:22. > :28:24.It must be willing to negotiate. It must need something.

:28:25. > :28:33.If the Dalek gets out, it'll murder every creature. That's all it needs.

:28:34. > :28:55.The Dalek's got a force field. The bullets melt before they hit.

:28:56. > :29:07.Aim for the dome - the head, the eyepiece. That's the weak spot.

:29:08. > :29:14.Thank you, Doctor, but I think I know how to fight one single tin robot.

:29:15. > :29:56.It was looking at me. Yeah, it wants to slaughter us!

:29:57. > :30:02.So? It's just a sort of metal eye thing, it's looking all around.

:30:03. > :30:05.I don't know. It's like there's something inside,

:30:06. > :30:29.Open fire! VOLLEY OF SHOTS

:30:30. > :32:18.Except there's no power to the helipad, sir. We can't get out.

:32:19. > :32:27.Steel bulkheads... Not enough power! We've got emergency power,

:32:28. > :32:39.And nobody knows this software better than me. Sir...?

:32:40. > :33:03.Extrapolating the biomass of a time-traveller

:33:04. > :33:07.regenerated me. What's your next trick?

:33:08. > :33:12.I have been searching for the Daleks.

:33:13. > :33:16.Downloading the internet. What did you find?

:33:17. > :33:22.I scanned your satellites and radio telescopes.

:33:23. > :33:25.And? Nothing.

:33:26. > :33:31.You're just a soldier without commands.

:33:32. > :33:35.Then I shall follow the Primary Order.

:33:36. > :33:39.The Dalek instinct to destroy. To conquer!

:33:40. > :34:11.Why don't you finish the job and make the Daleks extinct?

:34:12. > :34:17.Rid the universe of your filth! Why don't you just DIE?!

:34:18. > :34:41.I can leech power off the ground defences, feed it to the bulkheads.

:34:42. > :34:57.You've got to keep moving. The vault is being sealed off up at level 46.

:34:58. > :35:00.Can't you stop them closing? I'm closing them.

:35:01. > :35:11.I can't wait, and I can't help you. Now for God's sake, run!

:35:12. > :35:15.Done it! Power to the bulkheads. The Dalek's right behind them.

:35:16. > :35:17.We're nearly there - give us two seconds!

:35:18. > :35:21.Doctor, I can't sustain the power. The whole system is failing.

:35:22. > :36:10.Rose! Where are you? Rose, did you make it?

:36:11. > :36:33.Remember that, OK? It wasn't your fault.

:36:34. > :36:49.I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

:36:50. > :36:56.Exterminate! ELECTRICAL PULSE

:36:57. > :37:04.I said I'd protect her. She was here because of me, and you're sorry?!

:37:05. > :37:08.I could have killed that Dalek in its cell, but you stopped me.

:37:09. > :37:16.Worth all those men's deaths? Worth Rose?

:37:17. > :37:21.Mankind goes into space to explore. To be part of something greater...

:37:22. > :37:39.You're about as far from the stars as you can get.

:37:40. > :38:31.What d'you expect? Daleks do not fear. Must not fear!

:38:32. > :38:46.You were quick on your feet, leaving Rose behind.

:38:47. > :38:49.I'm not the one who sealed the vault!

:38:50. > :38:56.Open the bulkhead or Rose Tyler dies.

:38:57. > :39:03.I thought you were dead. Open the bulkhead!

:39:04. > :39:07.Don't do it! What use are emotions,

:39:08. > :39:17.if you will not save the woman you love?

:39:18. > :39:42.What do we do now? You bleeding heart, what the hell do we do?

:39:43. > :39:45.Kill it when it gets here. The guns are useless,

:39:46. > :39:52.and the alien weapons are in the vault. Only the catalogued ones.

:39:53. > :40:03.Mr Van Statten tends to dispose of his staff and wipe their memory.

:40:04. > :40:07.I kept this in case I needed to fight my way out. You, in a fight?

:40:08. > :40:13.I could do! What you gonna do, throw your A Levels at 'em? ..Oh, yes!

:40:14. > :40:26.I'm begging you, don't kill them. You didn't kill me.

:40:27. > :40:57.I wanted to help you, I just... I don't know, I was trying to help.

:40:58. > :41:00.I thought if we could get through to you, could mend you...

:41:01. > :41:05.I'm so sorry. I swear, I just wanted you to talk!

:41:06. > :41:19.Don't do it! Don't kill him! You don't have to do this any more.

:41:20. > :41:22.There must be something else, not just killing. What else is there?

:41:23. > :42:21.I never thought I'd feel the sunlight again.

:42:22. > :43:10.Rose, get out of the way, now! No! Cos I won't let you do this.

:43:11. > :43:12.That thing killed hundreds of people.

:43:13. > :43:14.It's not the one pointing the gun at me.

:43:15. > :43:17.I've got to do this. I've got to end it.

:43:18. > :43:22.The Daleks destroyed my home, my people. I've got nothing left.

:43:23. > :43:31.It's the sunlight. That's all it wants.

:43:32. > :43:35.But it can't... It couldn't kill van Statten, it couldn't kill me.

:43:36. > :43:40.It's changing. And what about you, Doctor?

:43:41. > :46:41.Take him away, wipe his memory and leave him by the road someplace.

:46:42. > :46:43.You can't do this to me! I am Henry van Statten!

:46:44. > :46:47.By tonight, Henry van Statten will be a homeless, brainless junkie,

:46:48. > :46:51.living on the streets of San Diego, Seattle, Sacramento -

:46:52. > :47:00.Little piece of home. Better than nothing.

:47:01. > :47:04.Is that the end of it? The Time War. I'm the only one left.

:47:05. > :47:13.Maybe some of your people did too. I'd know.

:47:14. > :47:21.Well, then. Good thing I'm not going anywhere. Yeah.

:47:22. > :47:25.We'd better get out. Van Statten's gone. They're closing down the base.

:47:26. > :47:32.I'll have to go back home. Better hurry up, then.

:47:33. > :47:35.Next flight to Heathrow leaves at 1500 hours.

:47:36. > :47:38.Adam said that all his life, he wanted to see the stars.
