:00:17. > :00:21.Hello, it's Joel here in the actual TARDIS, and thank you for joining on

:00:22. > :00:24.this third and final night in our search for Doctor Who's Greatest

:00:25. > :00:33.Monsters and Villains, as voted for by you. Over the past two nights we

:00:34. > :00:39.have been whittling down the monsters and villains of Doctor Who

:00:40. > :00:43.legend. And now we are finally at your top three. So, before I reveal

:00:44. > :00:47.your third place monster and villain, let's just remind ourselves

:00:48. > :00:52.of who made the list so far. Charging in at ten, it's the Judoon.

:00:53. > :00:55.At nine, it's the Silurians. At eight, it's those spaghetti-faced

:00:56. > :00:58.Ood. Always on time at seven, the

:00:59. > :01:02.Clockwork Droids. At six, it's the chilled-out Ice

:01:03. > :01:05.Warriors. Upgrading to number five is the

:01:06. > :01:11.Cybermen. And ssh! At four is the Silence.

:01:12. > :01:15.Now, so far in this countdown we have been treated to a whole host of

:01:16. > :01:22.alien creatures that have given the Doctor Who art department a lot to

:01:23. > :01:25.be proud of. Oh, I just broke that! But next up is a character that

:01:26. > :01:29.requires hardly any time in make up and special effects at all. No, not

:01:30. > :01:33.Peter Kay playing the Abzorbaloff, but the Doctor's greatest foe. The

:01:34. > :01:45.brilliant, the megalomaniacal, the Master.

:01:46. > :01:56.He likes to be known as the Master. Use my name. Master. The Master.

:01:57. > :02:02.As Sherlock homes has Moriarty and One Direction have The Wanted, the

:02:03. > :02:05.Doctor has the Master. Both are Time Lords and were once boyhood friends

:02:06. > :02:08.on their home planet of Gallifrey. Because of this, they have a strong

:02:09. > :02:12.mutual respect for each other's brilliance. But, over the years, the

:02:13. > :02:16.Master's desire to control the universe, and the Doctor's duty to

:02:17. > :02:23.stop him has seen the pair in direct conflict. But come on, guys. We all

:02:24. > :02:36.have a friend we can't bear to see succeed.

:02:37. > :02:41.Here come the drums. The Master. He likes to be known as the Master,

:02:42. > :02:56.don't you? Reign I could easily kill you if I wanted to. I would like you

:02:57. > :03:00.to use my name. You chose it. Yes, indeed, he did choose it. In

:03:01. > :03:02.fact, both the Master and Doctor's chosen names denote levels of

:03:03. > :03:06.educational qualification. So, by that rationale, my Time Lord name

:03:07. > :03:09.would be the BTEC Diploma. My Mum's really proud.

:03:10. > :03:12.Carrying on. As villains go, the Master is quite ambiguous. Despite

:03:13. > :03:20.trying to conquer worlds, turning the human race into balls, and

:03:21. > :03:28.literally creating a Master race... There is no human race, there is

:03:29. > :03:33.only the Master race. Breaking news, I'm everyone. I'm president.

:03:34. > :03:37.See, told ya. The Master has shown the good in himself on occasion by

:03:38. > :03:40.helping the Doctor escape the Cybermen and sacrificing himself in

:03:41. > :03:44.order to save the universe. But what really makes me think he actually an

:03:45. > :03:48.all right guy is his taste in music. I mean, anyone who likes the Scissor

:03:49. > :03:55.Sisters can't be all that bad, right?

:03:56. > :04:01.# I could bury you alive, but you might crawl out with the night.

:04:02. > :04:09.# I can't decide whether you should live or die.

:04:10. > :04:12.# You will probably go to heaven. # My heart feels dead inside.

:04:13. > :04:15.In this episode, we see the return of the long-thought-dead Master, who

:04:16. > :04:18.has been living at the end of the universe as a simple but brilliant

:04:19. > :04:21.sweet old professor with no recollection of his villainous past.

:04:22. > :04:29.But will his true, dastardly self finally break free? Let's find

:04:30. > :04:32.Cardiff! Cardiff?! Ah! But! Thing about Cardiff,

:04:33. > :04:35.it's built on a rift in time and space, just like California

:04:36. > :04:38.on the San Andreas fault... but the rift bleeds energy.

:04:39. > :04:41.I open up the engines, soak up the energy AND use it as fuel.

:04:42. > :05:04.Long time ago. Lifetimes. I was a different man, back then.

:05:05. > :05:34.We're accelerating into the future. The year one billion.

:05:35. > :05:44.That's impossible! Why, what happens then?

:05:45. > :05:47.We're going to the end of the universe.

:05:48. > :07:05.Huuuuuu-maaan! Huuuuuu-maaan!

:07:06. > :07:30.Chan, should I alert the guards, tho? No, no, we can't spare them.

:07:31. > :07:34.Poor beggar's on his own. One more lost soul, dreaming of Utopia.

:07:35. > :07:37.Chan, you mustn't talk as though you've given up, tho.

:07:38. > :07:47.Where, it is to be hoped, the coffee is a little less sour.

:07:48. > :07:50.Will you join me? I am happy drinking my own internal milk, tho.

:07:51. > :07:54.Yes, well that's quite enough information, thank you.

:07:55. > :07:58.'Don't want to rush you, but how are we doing?'

:07:59. > :08:16.There's no problem as such, we've accelerated the calculation

:08:17. > :08:19.matrix, but it's going to take time to harmonise though.

:08:20. > :08:22.We're trying a new reversal process, we'll have a definite

:08:23. > :08:27.result in approximately two hours, though.

:08:28. > :08:37.VOICE DROWNED OUT BY LOUD DRUMMING Chan, professor Yana, tho.

:08:38. > :09:00.I can't make it out. It would seem, something new has arrived.

:09:01. > :09:12.Not even the Time Lords came this far.

:09:13. > :09:19.We should go. We should really, really...

:09:20. > :09:45.Can't get a pulse. Hold on, you've got that medical kit thing.

:09:46. > :10:00.I think he came with us. From Earth? Must've been clinging to the Tardis,

:10:01. > :10:04.all the way through the vortex. Well, that's very him.

:10:05. > :10:07.D'you know him? Friend of mine. Used to travel with me.

:10:08. > :10:14.I'm sorry, there's no heartbeat, there's nothing.

:10:15. > :10:28.And who are you? Martha Jones. Nice to meet you, Martha Jones.

:10:29. > :10:38.Oh, don't start. I was only saying hello. I don't mind.

:10:39. > :10:52.Yes, the face. Regeneration. How did you know this was me?

:10:53. > :10:56.The police box kind of gives it away. I've been following you.

:10:57. > :11:13.Oh! No! Sorry! She's alive! You're kidding!

:11:14. > :11:33.So there I was, stranded in the year 200100, ankle deep in Dalek dust,

:11:34. > :11:36.and he goes off without me, but I had this.

:11:37. > :11:39.I used to be a Time Agent, it's called a Vortex Manipulator,

:11:40. > :11:46.It's like, I've got a sports car, you've got a spacehopper.

:11:47. > :12:14.So, I went to the Time Rift, based myself there, cos I knew

:12:15. > :12:17.you'd come back to refuel, until finally, I get a signal on this...

:12:18. > :12:26.Is that what happens? D'you just get bored of us, one day and disappear?

:12:27. > :12:29.Not if you're blonde. Oh, what a surprise! You two!

:12:30. > :12:36.right at the edge of knowledge itself, and you're busy...

:12:37. > :13:03.pathways, or roads, there must've been some sort of life.

:13:04. > :13:10.Time. Just time. Everything's dying now.

:13:11. > :13:12.All the great civilisations have gone.

:13:13. > :13:19.This isn't just night - all the stars have burnt up and faded away.

:13:20. > :14:01.Is it me, or does that look like a hunt? Come on!

:14:02. > :14:20.I've got you. They're coming. They're coming.

:14:21. > :14:31.What the hell are they? We've got to keep going.

:14:32. > :14:35.I've got a ship nearby. It's safe, it's over there...or maybe not

:14:36. > :14:59.It's the Futurekind - they're coming, let us in! Show me your teeth!

:15:00. > :15:06.Show me your teeth! Show me your teeth! Show him your teeth!

:15:07. > :15:35.Go back to where you came from. I said, go back! Back!

:15:36. > :16:02.Thanks for that. Right, let's get you inside.

:16:03. > :16:06.My name is Padra Fet Shafe Cane, tell me,

:16:07. > :16:09.just tell me... Can you take me to Utopia?

:16:10. > :16:26.Of medicine? He says of everything. What? A scientist!

:16:27. > :16:40.I need it back, it's stuck out there.

:16:41. > :16:45.You're 561. My family were heading for the Silo. Did they get here?

:16:46. > :16:49.My mother is Kistane Shafe Cane, my brother's name is Beltone.

:16:50. > :17:00.A blue box, you said? Big, tall, wooden, says "Police".

:17:01. > :17:07.We could still take a look. Come on.

:17:08. > :17:23.I'm looking for Kistane and Beltone Shafe Cane!

:17:24. > :17:30.Kistane from Red Falls Five? Kistane and Beltone Shafe Cane.

:17:31. > :17:45.Don't you see, though? The ripe old smell of humans! You survived!

:17:46. > :17:54.but you always revert to the same basic shape.

:17:55. > :18:01.End of the universe, and here you are! Indomitable, that's the word!

:18:02. > :18:06.Is there a Kistane Shafe Cane? That's me.

:18:07. > :18:18.Captain Jack Harkness, and who are you?

:18:19. > :18:39.How did you cope without me? Now that is what I call a rocket!

:18:40. > :18:53.Nope, whatever it is, it's not rocket science.

:18:54. > :19:03.But if the universe is falling apart, what does Utopia mean?

:19:04. > :19:12.Good! Good good good good good good good good good good good good!

:19:13. > :19:24.This is the gravitissimal accelerator, it's past its best...

:19:25. > :19:28.Chan, welcome though. And over here is the Footprint Impeller System.

:19:29. > :19:32.D'you know anything about end time gravity mechanics? Who are you?

:19:33. > :19:39.Captain Jack Harkness. Stop it! Can't I say hello to anyone?

:19:40. > :19:47.So what have we got here? And all this feeds into the rocket?

:19:48. > :19:52.Except without a stable footprint, we'll never achieve escape velocity.

:19:53. > :20:35.Is this is a tradition amongst your people?

:20:36. > :20:47.I lost my hand Christmas Day in a swordfight.

:20:48. > :20:56.Hello! Might I ask, what species are you?

:20:57. > :21:06.Not even a myth? Blimey, end of the universe is a bit humbling.

:21:07. > :21:15.My assistant, and good friend, Chantho. A survivor of the Malmooth.

:21:16. > :21:19.This was their planet, Malcassairo, before we took refuge.

:21:20. > :21:23.That city outside, that was yours? Chan, the Conglomeration died...tho.

:21:24. > :21:44.All this time and you're still full of surprises.

:21:45. > :21:47.Chan, you are most unusual, tho. Well...

:21:48. > :21:50.So what about those things outside, the beastie boys?

:21:51. > :21:58.Which is a myth, in itself, but it's feared they are what we will become,

:21:59. > :22:03.unless we reach Utopia. And Utopia is...?

:22:04. > :22:16.Hermits United. We meet up, every ten years, swap stories about caves.

:22:17. > :22:36.Where is that? Oh, it's far beyond the Condensate Wilderness.

:22:37. > :22:42.Out towards the Wildlands and the Dark Matter Reefs. Calling us in,

:22:43. > :22:45.the last of the humans, scattered across the night.

:22:46. > :22:48.What d'you think is out there? We can't know.

:22:49. > :23:00.To preserve mankind, to find a way of surviving

:23:01. > :23:04.beyond the collapse of reality itself, now perhaps they found it.

:23:05. > :23:09.But it's worth a look, don't you think?

:23:10. > :23:15.And the signal keeps modulating, so it's not on automatic.

:23:16. > :23:17.That's a good sign. Someone's out there.

:23:18. > :23:26.DOCTOR'S VOICE DROWNED OUT BY LOUD DRUMMING

:23:27. > :23:46.Except that rocket's not going to fly, is it?

:23:47. > :23:51.This footprint mechanism-thing, it's not working.

:23:52. > :24:01.That lot out there, they still think they're gonna fly.

:24:02. > :24:05.Well, it's better to let them live in hope. Quite right too.

:24:06. > :24:13.what was it? Yana. Professor Yana, this new science is well beyond me.

:24:14. > :24:16.But all the same, a boost reversal circuit, in any timeframe, must be

:24:17. > :24:21.a circuit which reverses the boost, so I wonder what would happen

:24:22. > :24:37.Oh, we've been chatting away, I forgot to tell you. I'm brilliant!

:24:38. > :25:35.ON TANNOY: 'Air passengers prepare for immediate boarding.

:25:36. > :25:49.'Air passengers prepare for immediate boarding.'

:25:50. > :26:03.Good luck. What d'you think it's gonna be like, in Utopia?

:26:04. > :26:07.My mum used to say, the skies are made of diamonds.

:26:08. > :26:42.Aah, it's easy, coming in at the end.

:26:43. > :26:46.But you're stellar, this is, this is magnificent!

:26:47. > :26:50.And I don't often say that, cos... well, cos of me.

:26:51. > :27:01.I've spent my life going from one refugee ship to another.

:27:02. > :27:05.If you'd been born in a different time, you'd be revered. I mean it.

:27:06. > :27:11.Oh, those damn galaxies, they had to go and collapse!

:27:12. > :27:18.Just a little. Just once. Well, you've got it now.

:27:19. > :27:25.You can't activate it from on board, it's got to be done from here.

:27:26. > :27:34.Simply refuses. You'd give your life, so they could fly.

:27:35. > :27:37.Oh, I think I'm a little too old for Utopia.

:27:38. > :28:10.Little bit of a cheat, but who's counting?

:28:11. > :28:12.Jack, you're in charge of the retro feeds.

:28:13. > :28:20.Fine, I'm fine, I'm fine just...get on with it.

:28:21. > :28:34.noise, inside my head, Doctor. Constant noise inside my head.

:28:35. > :28:42.More and more, as though... it's getting closer.

:28:43. > :28:44.When did it start? Oh, I've had it all my life.

:28:45. > :28:57.So how long have you been with the Professor? Chan, 17 years, tho.

:28:58. > :29:05.Oh, right. And he... Chan, I don't think he even notices, tho.

:29:06. > :29:12.D'you have to start every sentence with "Chan"?

:29:13. > :29:55.All you need to do is connect the couplings, then we can launch.

:29:56. > :30:03.Anything I can do? I've finished that lot. Yes, if you could.

:30:04. > :30:12.Present and correct! Send your man inside.

:30:13. > :30:35.Fix the couplings, and the Footprint can work.

:30:36. > :31:31.It's rising. 0.2, keep it level. Yes, sir.

:31:32. > :32:44.I've got him. Don't touch the cables, tho.

:32:45. > :32:47.I'm so sorry. The chamber's flooded with radiation, yes?

:32:48. > :33:30.We've found a way of tripping the system. Run!

:33:31. > :33:34.What are you taking your clothes off for? I'm going in!

:33:35. > :33:47.How long have you known? Ever since I ran away from you.

:33:48. > :34:04.We lost picture when that thing flared up...

:34:05. > :34:08.Doctor, are you there? Receiving, yeah. He's inside.

:34:09. > :34:12.And still alive? Oh, yes. But he should evaporate.

:34:13. > :34:23.God, I make us sound like stray dogs.

:34:24. > :34:36.The sports car of time travel, he says.

:34:37. > :34:42.ECHOING VOICE: 'That's a tardis, that's a tardis, that's a tardis...

:34:43. > :34:46.When did you realise? Earth, 1892.

:34:47. > :34:55.Thought it was kind of strange but then it never stopped.

:34:56. > :35:12.And all that time, you knew. That's why I left you behind.

:35:13. > :35:19.It's not easy, even just...looking at you, Jack, cos you're wrong.

:35:20. > :35:21.Thanks. But you are, I can't help it,

:35:22. > :35:26.I'm a Time Lord, it's instinct, it's in my guts.

:35:27. > :35:29.You're a fixed point in time and space.

:35:30. > :35:36.Even the Tardis reacted against you, tried to shake you off,

:35:37. > :35:49.I never thought of it like that. Shame on you. Yeah.

:35:50. > :35:52.Last thing I remember, back when I was mortal...

:35:53. > :35:58.I was facing three Daleks, death by extermination

:35:59. > :36:14.No-one's ever meant to have that power.

:36:15. > :36:17.If a Time Lord did that, he'd become a God, a vengeful God.

:36:18. > :36:34.but she couldn't control it, she brought you back forever.

:36:35. > :36:40.the final act of the Time War was life.

:36:41. > :36:42.Do you think she could change me back?

:36:43. > :36:54.She's not just living on a parallel world, she's trapped there.

:36:55. > :37:17.Do you want to die? Oh, this one's a little stuck.

:37:18. > :37:35.but this lot, you see them out here, surviving, and that's fantastic.

:37:36. > :37:39.You might be out there somewhere. I could go meet myself.

:37:40. > :37:44.Well, it's the only man you're ever gonna be happy with.

:37:45. > :37:52.VOICE IN HEAD: 'Regeneration, regeneration...'

:37:53. > :37:55.I never understand half the things he's saying...

:37:56. > :38:00.What's wrong? Chan, Professor, what is it? Time travel.

:38:01. > :38:06.They say there was time travel back in the old days,

:38:07. > :38:30.Martha, this watch is me. I'm gonna become human.

:38:31. > :38:37.Time and time and time again, always running out on me...

:38:38. > :38:41.Can I have a look at that? Oh, it's only an old relic.

:38:42. > :38:52.I was found with it. What d'you mean? An orphan in the storm.

:38:53. > :38:58.I was a naked child, found on the coast of the Silver Devastation.

:38:59. > :39:04.Have you ever opened it? Why would I? It's broken.

:39:05. > :39:07.How d'you know it's broken if you've never opened it?

:39:08. > :39:12.It's stuck, it's old, it's... not meant to be.

:39:13. > :40:03.'Outer doors sealed, Countdown commences, T minus 99, 98...'

:40:04. > :40:10.it's gonna take the both of us to keep it stable.

:40:11. > :40:21.Don't be ridiculous. I asked him, he said he's had it his whole life.

:40:22. > :40:28.No, no, no... it's this... it's this thing...

:40:29. > :40:41.Jack, keep it level! But that's brilliant, isn't it?

:40:42. > :40:43.Yes, it is, course it is! Depends which one.

:40:44. > :40:53.Not if he was human! What did he say, Martha, what did he say?!

:40:54. > :41:01.But what about now? Can he see it now?

:41:02. > :41:06.MONTAGE OF VOICES: 'Tardis, the Time Vortex...

:41:07. > :41:18.'open the light and summon me and receive my majesty.

:41:19. > :41:21.'Destroy him, then you will give your power to me.'

:41:22. > :41:29.Chan, Yana, won't you please take some rest, tho?

:41:30. > :42:00.And think what the Face of Boe said! His dying words! He said.

:42:01. > :42:45.'Affirmative, we'll see you in Utopia.'

:42:46. > :42:55.But you've locked them in, tho. Get it open!

:42:56. > :43:08.Not to worry, my dear. As one door closes, another must open.

:43:09. > :44:10.Did you never once think, not ever, that you could set me free?

:44:11. > :44:16.Chan, I'm sorry, tho... Chan, I'm so sorry.

:44:17. > :44:21.And you, with your "Chan" and your "tho", driving me insane...

:44:22. > :44:27.Chan, Professor, please... That is not my name.

:44:28. > :44:35.So perfect a disguise, that I forgot who I am.

:44:36. > :45:33.Open the door! Open the door, please!

:45:34. > :46:18.She's dead... I broke the lock. Give me a hand.
