0:04:41 > 0:04:44'In bedrooms, schools and bathroom stalls

0:04:44 > 0:04:47'In moonlight, hear the Itcher's call

0:04:47 > 0:04:51'Out from the shadows, the Itcher crawls

0:04:54 > 0:04:56'Its face no man has ever seen

0:04:56 > 0:04:59'For its grisly smile is too obscene

0:05:01 > 0:05:03'Mortal eyes won't trigger shouts

0:05:05 > 0:05:07'For Itcher's nails will gouge them out.'

0:05:30 > 0:05:33SCRATCHING

0:05:51 > 0:05:54'In dead of night the Itcher wakes

0:05:54 > 0:05:56'From body and mind the Itcher takes.'

0:06:25 > 0:06:27'If you block the Itcher's path

0:06:28 > 0:06:30'Prepare to watch the Itcher laugh.'

0:06:44 > 0:06:45SHE SCREAMS

0:06:46 > 0:06:47Oh, my God!

0:06:47 > 0:06:51LAUGHTER

0:06:51 > 0:06:53- FROM BEHIND POPCORN:- I like that!

0:06:53 > 0:06:54HE CHUCKLES

0:06:54 > 0:06:57SINISTER LAUGHTER

0:06:57 > 0:07:00Nice to see a film-maker proving nothing's more horrifying

0:07:00 > 0:07:02than a nasty itch.

0:07:02 > 0:07:06But did it live up to its name and get under our audience's skin?

0:07:06 > 0:07:11Well, it certainly seemed to flicker something in Poppy's psyche.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13I hate flashing lights so much

0:07:13 > 0:07:15and I said, "I can't do it."

0:07:15 > 0:07:16Stop it! That's not OK.

0:07:18 > 0:07:19No, no, no.

0:07:19 > 0:07:20And then it popped out.

0:07:20 > 0:07:21SHE SCREAMS

0:07:21 > 0:07:22Oh, my God!

0:07:23 > 0:07:26- I literally went into self-defence mode.- You did!

0:07:26 > 0:07:28- I jumped out of my seat. - Oh, my God!

0:07:28 > 0:07:32It built to eight with scare, which unfortunately I bang on counted.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33One... Bang on!

0:07:35 > 0:07:38I wasn't really scared until the end when the thing jumped out

0:07:38 > 0:07:41- and I spilled my drink on Anton. - You didn't.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44You spat your drink out of your mouth on me, you were so terrified.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50THEY LAUGH

0:07:50 > 0:07:52I quite like the way that Itcher looked.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56It was kind of like if someone set a Kermit the frog puppet on fire

0:07:56 > 0:07:58and then made it do the "Ah" thing...

0:07:58 > 0:08:02He's a terrifying little chap and there's no doubt about that.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04But what about that God-awful noise?

0:08:04 > 0:08:06Put your teeth right on edge, didn't it?

0:08:06 > 0:08:08SCRATCHING

0:08:08 > 0:08:11I didn't like the itching noise. The "ur-ugh".

0:08:11 > 0:08:15- I used to get that. - It makes you go all funny.

0:08:15 > 0:08:16SCRATCHING

0:08:16 > 0:08:18I used to have a starling's nest in my loft above my bed

0:08:18 > 0:08:21so I used to hear it all the time so it didn't bother me at all.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24But a starling's not going to kill you, is it?

0:08:24 > 0:08:26At worst it will poo on your washing.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30As for Itcher, will it be dropping onto our final leader board?

0:08:30 > 0:08:33We'll be finding out how the audience scored it after one more film.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42My fear is being buried alive.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46- That's mine, that's why I'd rather get burnt.- Cremated.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Yeah, I mean cremated, to say it in a better way.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52You're scared you'll jump, yeah?

0:08:52 > 0:08:55Don't worry, I won't tell no-one.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58Oh, look! Whoopsy!

0:08:58 > 0:09:01- Oh, God! Did you have tit out? - No, I didn't have tit out.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04So, ladies and gentleman, time now for our final movie,

0:09:04 > 0:09:06made by Mike Tack...

0:09:06 > 0:09:10..who's excellent with calculators, not so great at typing,

0:09:10 > 0:09:12and judging by that mug, lonely.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15This is his ode to Gok Wan. It's Makeover.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21- I'm ready for this.- Everything ready for this.- I am.

0:09:27 > 0:09:32MUSIC PLAYS

0:09:37 > 0:09:43VEHICLE REVERSING BEEP

0:09:50 > 0:09:55MUSIC PLAYS

0:10:07 > 0:10:09GROWLING

0:10:24 > 0:10:31GROWLING AND SCREAMING

0:10:36 > 0:10:39HEART MONITOR BEEPS

0:10:52 > 0:10:54ROARING

0:11:27 > 0:11:28GUNSHOT

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Tell them it's done.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14BIG BEN TOLLS

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Welcome to the House, Minister of Defence.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20Minister? One for the papers?

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Oh!

0:12:36 > 0:12:38- I like that idea.- That was good.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43Makeover there, proving what we already knew.

0:12:43 > 0:12:45Politicians are all horny, yellow-eyed demons.

0:12:45 > 0:12:49That is a cold hard fact, my friends, a cold hard fact.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51But how did our audience deal with this conspiracy?

0:12:53 > 0:12:57That's like that theory that they have with the Royal family,

0:12:57 > 0:12:59that they're lizards.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02He must get a lot of money for being a reptile.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07I thought Makeover was a really, really good film.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10It was really well shot. You could tell they had a bit more money.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11The costumes were amazing.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14The creature effects were really, really good.

0:13:14 > 0:13:15There was a bit of splatter.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18The monster did kill one of the people operating on him.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24And he just stood there and I did think about these two.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27If I'd got trouble, would they just stand there and watch?

0:13:28 > 0:13:31But hang on a second. Who's really the bad guy, here?

0:13:31 > 0:13:34The crazy, yellow-eyed murdering monster,

0:13:34 > 0:13:36or its human puppet masters?

0:13:36 > 0:13:38It's a philosophical one.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41I felt sorry for the monster alien, rather than the humans.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Oh, my God!

0:13:43 > 0:13:47They're the actual monsters in this. They're just taking it apart.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50Whilst Makeover's subtext resonated with Grace and Amelia,

0:13:50 > 0:13:55our little ray of sunshine, Aaron, experienced things a bit differently.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57- I thought it was really boring.- Oh!

0:13:57 > 0:13:59I was so bored as soon as it came on.

0:13:59 > 0:14:01Tell us what you really think.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03I thought it was a pile of pony.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05It's not because I don't believe in aliens, that I don't like

0:14:05 > 0:14:08alien films. It's purely because I find them very boring.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10They've all got the same stupid plot.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13I don't like Men In Black, anything like that. It's all boring.

0:14:13 > 0:14:17- I like the Men In Black.- I don't like it.- I like Men In Black.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19Honestly, who doesn't like Men In Black?

0:14:20 > 0:14:22So, that's it from all our submissions,

0:14:22 > 0:14:25but have either of tonight's video nasties done enough

0:14:25 > 0:14:27to grab a place on our leader board?

0:14:33 > 0:14:37Tonight's second offering was Mike Tack's gruesome Makeover!

0:14:37 > 0:14:40Strong concept, but sadly the reptilian politician

0:14:40 > 0:14:45only mustered up 2.9 in the opinion polls from our hardy bunch.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49- I thought Makeover was a really good film.- It just wasn't a scary film.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52Which means that scaring the shitcher out of our audience tonight,

0:14:52 > 0:14:54was Sam Hartshorne's terrifying Itcher.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59- Oh, my God! - It built to a good scare.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02The poem really did help him building that mythology.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04It does a really good job.

0:15:04 > 0:15:07A sterling effort from one of our youngest film-makers,

0:15:07 > 0:15:11but only the top three films voted scariest by our audience, can make

0:15:11 > 0:15:14it onto the final leader board, and despite a valiant attempt,

0:15:14 > 0:15:16it misses out.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21Still, our audience's job is done, and it delights me to say the three

0:15:21 > 0:15:28films that have reached the final stage are Paranoia, Capture and 3AM.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32That means it's time to get serious.

0:15:32 > 0:15:36To help us decide which film-maker will be winning the competition,

0:15:36 > 0:15:40and with that, £20,000 worth of support towards their next

0:15:40 > 0:15:44project, we've enlisted the help of a horror legend.

0:15:46 > 0:15:47Meet Eduardo Sanchez.

0:15:47 > 0:15:52In 1999, whilst only in his late 20s, he and his friend, Daniel Myrick,

0:15:52 > 0:15:56wrote, directed and edited a small film that changed the landscape

0:15:56 > 0:15:57of horror cinema.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01From a budget of around just 20,000,

0:16:01 > 0:16:04The Blair Witch Project grossed nearly 250 million,

0:16:04 > 0:16:09making it one of the most successful independent movies of all time.

0:16:09 > 0:16:13- Hurry up!- I'm coming. My boots aren't laced.

0:16:13 > 0:16:15Oh, my God, what the fuck is that?

0:16:15 > 0:16:18What the fuck is that?!

0:16:18 > 0:16:22Its fake documentary style, with hand-held camera and shaky footage,

0:16:22 > 0:16:24put viewers in the heart of the action.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28With first person and found footage movies still popular today,

0:16:28 > 0:16:30there's no denying its influence.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33If anyone's got the scare skills to pick out the next big thing

0:16:33 > 0:16:35in horror, it's Eduardo.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43Being, like, a horror film-maker, you see everything,

0:16:43 > 0:16:48so, my judging criteria is basically just how scared does it make me?

0:16:48 > 0:16:50I'm looking forward to watching them in a dark theatre

0:16:50 > 0:16:54and actually just see what it does to me in just four minutes.

0:17:00 > 0:17:03So our audience have selected their scariest,

0:17:03 > 0:17:06but it all rests on Eduardo's shoulders to pick the best.

0:17:06 > 0:17:10Let's get him started with our early morning chiller, 3AM.

0:17:13 > 0:17:18In a suburban street, one man wakes...

0:17:20 > 0:17:25..to discover he's not alone.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31- Oh!- Oh!

0:17:33 > 0:17:36EERIE MUSIC PLAYS

0:17:37 > 0:17:39SCREAMS

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Oh!

0:17:41 > 0:17:43Critically acclaimed by our audience...

0:17:47 > 0:17:51..and written, starring and directed by 27-year-old Frederick Wolf.

0:17:51 > 0:17:52Yes!

0:17:52 > 0:17:58Being one of the final three films is really, really amazing for me.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01It gives me a lot of joy knowing that the film worked,

0:18:01 > 0:18:03that people got scared,

0:18:03 > 0:18:07seeing the reactions of the people after having watched the film.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09It's nice. It gives me a lot of joy.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18Having reviewed the first finalist, what did Hollywood's

0:18:18 > 0:18:21master scare-mongerer make of it?

0:18:21 > 0:18:253AM was fantastic. I loved the atmosphere created.

0:18:25 > 0:18:30Those long shots at the beginning and the acting was great.

0:18:31 > 0:18:35It's very difficult to act realistically scared.

0:18:35 > 0:18:36He did it really well.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39A little bit more darkness in that room would've been better

0:18:39 > 0:18:44and then the sound was impeccable, a really great atmosphere,

0:18:44 > 0:18:45especially at the end.

0:18:45 > 0:18:50They brought it up and then they had a release of the tension and

0:18:50 > 0:18:54then that thing at the end, whatever it was,

0:18:54 > 0:18:56it definitely made me jump.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59I thought it was just perfect timing and it was really effective.

0:19:01 > 0:19:03A strong start from our first film-maker,

0:19:03 > 0:19:07props for getting a jump out of Eduardo Sanchez - impressive stuff!

0:19:07 > 0:19:10But how will the other finalists compare?

0:19:10 > 0:19:11Next up, it's Capture.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21Stephen, it's perfect.

0:19:25 > 0:19:28I love it. We're finally home.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36SCREAMS

0:19:36 > 0:19:38Oh, my God!

0:19:38 > 0:19:40Hailed by our audience...

0:19:47 > 0:19:50..and directed by 25-year-old Irish couple

0:19:50 > 0:19:52Kiefer McGinn and Rachel Hegarty.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55We would love to win The Fear competition.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58It will be an amazing achievement for people like us.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00- We're only...- Starting out.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04..starting out and making films, so, this would just give us

0:20:04 > 0:20:07an extra push to create bigger and better things.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17This terrifying short certainly captured our audience,

0:20:17 > 0:20:19but did it grab Eduardo?

0:20:19 > 0:20:22Capture was great. Great little horror film.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24I loved the set-up at the beginning.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28You had a little bit of story which is very difficult to

0:20:28 > 0:20:32do in a short film and I think it was one of the best jump scares.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35I thought it was really, really effective

0:20:35 > 0:20:36and I loved the build-up to that,

0:20:36 > 0:20:40like you knew something was going to happen, but it was very unexpected.

0:20:40 > 0:20:41Who's there?

0:20:43 > 0:20:46I thought that the performance of the woman at the end could

0:20:46 > 0:20:48have been a little bit higher.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52You really want to end the film with something that the audience

0:20:52 > 0:20:55remembers and you don't want them remembering something

0:20:55 > 0:20:56that is a bit too underplayed.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59But it's hard to, kind of, surprise somebody like me

0:20:59 > 0:21:01who watches a lot of horror films...

0:21:01 > 0:21:03SCREAMING

0:21:03 > 0:21:06..with something new, I thought it was just really effective.

0:21:06 > 0:21:07It was a really great film.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11Eduardo there, bemoaning the importance

0:21:11 > 0:21:12of putting in a strong performance.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14He should speak to my girlfriend.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16They'd get on like a bloody house on fire.

0:21:16 > 0:21:20But how will Capture perform against our last movie?

0:21:20 > 0:21:23It's time for his remaining finalist, it's Paranoia.

0:21:27 > 0:21:32What evil lurks beneath this house?

0:21:32 > 0:21:34Things that go bump in the night.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39Nominated by our cinemagoers!

0:21:48 > 0:21:50Argh!

0:21:50 > 0:21:54This psychological spine chiller was directed by 17-year-olds,

0:21:54 > 0:21:57Harry Courtney and Matt Traszko.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59We put a lot of hard work and effort into this.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01It would be really good to see it amount to something,

0:22:01 > 0:22:03something more than just a hobby.

0:22:03 > 0:22:06Winning this competition would mean a lot,

0:22:06 > 0:22:08as far as starting careers are concerned.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18Paranoia was, you know, just left me really uneasy, you know?

0:22:19 > 0:22:23It was one of these films that you don't know what's going to happen.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26You don't know what tricks the film-makers are going to do

0:22:26 > 0:22:29and I love the false scare at the beginning where the friend

0:22:29 > 0:22:31scares the other guy.

0:22:31 > 0:22:32- Argh!- Oh, my God!

0:22:34 > 0:22:36And then I really loved how they had

0:22:36 > 0:22:40that figure, the man, or whatever, in a couple of shots behind them.

0:22:40 > 0:22:44It's probably the least technically savvy of the films,

0:22:44 > 0:22:47but there was something about it that kind of really spoke to me.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51The atmosphere in that film was really great.

0:22:51 > 0:22:53From the very beginning to the very end.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55So as the curtain closes for the last time

0:22:55 > 0:22:59in the screaming room, it's time to bring up Eduardo

0:22:59 > 0:23:02and find out which film will win the competition.

0:23:02 > 0:23:03So here's Eduardo,

0:23:03 > 0:23:06welcome to the projection room!

0:23:06 > 0:23:08- How are you? - Thanks for having me here.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10Pleasure to have you.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12You've seen the three finalists.

0:23:12 > 0:23:13What did you think?

0:23:13 > 0:23:15I saw them, I thought they were great.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19The decision to pick the winner, really tough.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21Three very strong films.

0:23:21 > 0:23:25Strong in different ways too, and they all creeped me out pretty good.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28Right, so I think the only thing we need to find out now

0:23:28 > 0:23:30is ultimately who our winner is.

0:23:30 > 0:23:31So this is it, folks.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34We are moments away from Eduardo revealing

0:23:34 > 0:23:37to us who is the winner of this competition.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41He will take his position at the projector, press play,

0:23:41 > 0:23:44and we will be able to enjoy the winner in all its glory.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Eduardo, will you take your position, please?

0:23:47 > 0:23:49- Let's do it!- Let's do this.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52Before all that, though, a massive thank you to all our film-makers.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55Hopefully they've given you some sleepless nights

0:23:55 > 0:23:58and a big thank you to our esteemed judge, Eduardo.

0:23:58 > 0:24:01Only one thing left to do. Hit it, baby!

0:24:01 > 0:24:04So, will it be Capture,

0:24:04 > 0:24:06Paranoia

0:24:06 > 0:24:08or 3am?

0:24:09 > 0:24:11The winner is...

0:24:11 > 0:24:13Paranoia!

0:24:14 > 0:24:16Mm-hmm.

0:24:16 > 0:24:17Yeah.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19No.

0:24:19 > 0:24:21No, Mum, I'll be fine....

0:24:21 > 0:24:23It's not like I haven't lived away from home before.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25Just, please, stop worrying.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28OK. Yes, it's all done. Yes. OK.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31I'm going now. Bye. Bye, love you, bye, bye.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38CLATTERING

0:24:44 > 0:24:46DOOR CREAKS

0:24:48 > 0:24:50SWITCH CLICKS

0:25:21 > 0:25:22HE SCREAMS

0:25:22 > 0:25:24Oh, my God.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27Should have seen your face.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29What the hell, man, that's not cool.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31Didn't tell me you had a basement.

0:25:31 > 0:25:33- I know, it's spooky, right! - Whatever, mate.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58DOOR BELL RINGS

0:25:58 > 0:25:59Was that the door bell?

0:25:59 > 0:26:02- DOOR BELL RINGS - I think so. You expecting someone?

0:26:02 > 0:26:05- No, you?- I don't think so.

0:26:07 > 0:26:09- New neighbours?- Maybe.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20Matt, you left the door open! Anyone could've got in!

0:26:20 > 0:26:22What do you mean? You were the last one in.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24Whatever.

0:26:25 > 0:26:29- I didn't leave the door open.- Yeah, whatever, mate. I'm going to bed.

0:26:29 > 0:26:31- Your turn to turn the lights off! - Mate, you can't...

0:26:31 > 0:26:33Seriously! I turned them off last night.

0:26:42 > 0:26:44What the hell...?

0:27:23 > 0:27:25PHONE RINGS

0:27:30 > 0:27:32DOOR CLICKS OPEN

0:27:32 > 0:27:34Very funny, Harry.

0:27:36 > 0:27:38I can hear your phone, you idiot.

0:27:40 > 0:27:43Matt, who are you talking to?

0:27:43 > 0:27:45- Huh?- Who are you talking to?

0:27:52 > 0:27:55I never thought, from the moment I found out about the competition,

0:27:55 > 0:27:58- that we'd win.- I was shocked when we got into the top three.

0:27:58 > 0:28:00- Waiting for everyone to go, "Ha! We're joking!"- "It's a joke!"

0:28:00 > 0:28:04We're just two dudes with a camera and some spare time on the weekend

0:28:04 > 0:28:07and we like to try and make people laugh or make people scream,

0:28:07 > 0:28:10- and it worked!- We'd also like to thank Matt and Eduardo.

0:28:10 > 0:28:13And we'd like to thank the cinema audience, because without you guys
