0:01:00 > 0:01:04- Paul has a studio here - and he renovated the house.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07- They both influenced - the interior design.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09- The large rooms...

0:01:09 > 0:01:13- ..are full of interesting items, - including Paul's work.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18- What made you choose this house?

0:01:18 > 0:01:20- It met many of my requirements.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25- I wanted a garden - and a house which had many rooms.

0:01:25 > 0:01:30- We didn't have children then - and we still don't have children...

0:01:30 > 0:01:35- ..but we thought we'd have lots of - guests, if we moved to north Wales.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38- We were right - - the house is full every weekend.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42- Paul was teaching art in Liverpool, - at the time...

0:01:42 > 0:01:46- ..and he wanted to leave - the teaching profession.

0:01:46 > 0:01:52- He wanted to branch out on his own, - as a ceramicist and an artist.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55- We needed a property - that was large enough...

0:01:56 > 0:01:58- ..to house a workshop for him.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02- What, apart from the size, - drew you to the house?

0:02:02 > 0:02:06- It's a Georgian house and I've - always loved Georgian design.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09- The proportions are fantastic.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11- The location is perfect.

0:02:11 > 0:02:16- Though it's in the countryside - it also meets our final criterion.

0:02:16 > 0:02:22- That criterion was to have a house - within walking distance of a pub.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24- That's the honest truth.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27- We looked for that - in every single house.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31- Who cares where it is - it must be - within walking distance of a pub!

0:02:32 > 0:02:34- We love to go for a pint, - in the evening.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38- This house happened - to fit all our criteria.

0:02:43 > 0:02:44- Yes, I think so.

0:02:45 > 0:02:50- Our taste differs from that of most - people who buy Georgian houses.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55- As you can see, - some of the rooms are very modern.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57- Some have an art deco flavour.

0:02:57 > 0:03:02- Other rooms include touches - of art nouveau and arts and crafts.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06- We've tried to preserve - the Georgian features.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10- We haven't added - any brand new features.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14- What about your colour scheme?

0:03:14 > 0:03:15- This red is very bright.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18- It's bright but also warm.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22- Yes. I'm very fond of white, - as a canvas for Paul's work.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27- We have what is, more or less, - a black and white room.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31- Bright colours - reflect our personalities.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35- We're both extroverts - and we're quite bubbly.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39- We want to live in an environment - which complements that.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57- Did you knock - these two rooms into one?

0:03:58 > 0:04:00- No, I think this was done - in the 1970s.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03- There was a pantry over here.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07- There was a corridor here - and a door there.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10- This is the heart of our home.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15- We live here. Our cat and dog - are with us, all the time.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19- I enjoy spending time here - more than any of the other rooms.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23- There's an assortment of materials - in here.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28- A lovely slate floor, - this modern, 1970s table...

0:04:29 > 0:04:33- ..and all the wonderful, - custom-made cabinets.

0:04:38 > 0:04:43- There are touches of art deco - arts and crafts in here.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54- Light comes in here - from the back of the house...

0:04:54 > 0:04:56- ..and from the front, too.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01- They let in lots of light...

0:05:02 > 0:05:05- ..and they give us - a great view of grass and sheep.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10- We live in the centre of St Asaph - but we're surrounded by nature.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14- It's a real pleasure - to live in a house like this.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34- This wide hallway suggests to me - the original owners were wealthy.

0:05:35 > 0:05:40- Only the rich could afford to - dedicate so much space to a hallway.

0:05:40 > 0:05:44- Look at this fantastic floor - and these wide stone slabs.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49- Everything here echoes - the original, Georgian design.

0:05:49 > 0:05:54- The kitchen and the lounge - we saw earlier are through there.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12- Everything looks better - against a white background.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16- This is a fusion - of several design periods.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30- It's an interesting collection.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33- There's a boat in the fireplace.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38- It's a two-bar electric fire, - in essence...

0:06:38 > 0:06:43- ..but it becomes a work of art - when you encase the fire in a boat.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47- You can admire it, - with a smile on your face.

0:06:47 > 0:06:48- It's very camp.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40- I also listen to music - and read here.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42- It's always very tidy...

0:08:06 > 0:08:09- ..of a Morris-style design.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13- I've stuck to a dark palette - in here.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16- Green is the classic colour - for a study.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21- This is the old part of the house, - isn't it?

0:08:22 > 0:08:25- Yes. We think - this was the servants' quarters.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29- We also think - the cooking was all done in here.

0:08:29 > 0:08:33- There was a fireplace here, - when we bought the house...

0:08:33 > 0:08:36- ..but the chimney was unsupported!

0:08:36 > 0:08:40- We rebuilt the chimney - and refitted the fireplace.

0:08:40 > 0:08:41- It's cosy.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52- Above the office, - leading off the spare bedroom...

0:08:52 > 0:08:54- ..there is a reflection room.

0:08:54 > 0:08:59- It is also used as a gallery for - the work of Paul and other artists.

0:09:27 > 0:09:28- It's physical work...

0:09:29 > 0:09:33- ..but it gives the brain - a chance to relax and wander off.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36- It's a kind of blue air thinking.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41- There's a touch of 'The Good Life' - about this garden!

0:10:21 > 0:10:24- When we move, - I love the idea of a self-build.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28- Something like the German Huf Haus.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31- This house - was built as a family home...

0:10:31 > 0:10:33- ..and that's what it should be.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38- I want someone else - to have fun here...

0:10:39 > 0:10:41- ..just like we've had fun here.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04- This is the museum office...

0:12:41 > 0:12:47- They left it open and you can see - pieces of Andrew's work, over there.

0:12:50 > 0:12:55- It's like looking out, through - a window, but it's more interesting.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58- The rest of the house is behind me.

0:13:00 > 0:13:01- Here it is.

0:13:41 > 0:13:46- I think this really adds something - to this room.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49- It came from India - and it looks very primitive.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53- It's very playful, isn't it? - It's full of fun.

0:13:53 > 0:13:58- I think that's part - of the very essence of this style.

0:14:31 > 0:14:33- It's a great place to have parties.

0:14:39 > 0:14:44- As you've seen, the flat takes up - very little of this building.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50- I've certainly never seen - anything like it.

0:14:50 > 0:14:53- This may not be - to everyone's taste...

0:14:58 > 0:15:00- In a nutshell, it's very camp.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03- What he's done is transform tat - into art...

0:16:27 > 0:16:32- Thanks to their efforts, the house - has been renovated and extended...

0:16:32 > 0:16:35- ..without losing - its original character.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42- It's a traditional, Welsh longhouse.

0:16:42 > 0:16:47- The farmer lived in one room and - the animals lived in the other room.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51- The animals went into the warm room, - where the fireplace stood.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58- We wanted a bigger house, - to capitalise on the view.

0:17:00 > 0:17:04- That's why we tried to be - sympathetic with the tradition...

0:17:05 > 0:17:09- ..in keeping - with the original building.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13- We built an oak-framed extension.

0:17:15 > 0:17:19- What did you have to do, - in order to make it habitable?

0:17:21 > 0:17:23- We could just about squeeze in.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26- Five of us lived here - for a couple of years.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31- It took time to get planning - permission and to build the house.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35- I like unusual things.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39- I am not a minimalist, - when it comes to interior design!

0:17:39 > 0:17:44- I surround myself with things which - say something about my family...

0:18:03 > 0:18:05- We spend lots of time in here.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07- We have four children...

0:18:07 > 0:18:11- ..and they come and go, - as children do these days.

0:18:16 > 0:18:18- Do you enjoy cooking?

0:18:19 > 0:18:20- Yes, I love to cook.

0:19:14 > 0:19:18- I like the fact everything is used, - even our old glasses.

0:19:18 > 0:19:22- Walk through the kitchen - and you walk through a wall!

0:19:22 > 0:19:25- This was once an external wall.
