0:01:20 > 0:01:24- This month, medical history - was created here in Wales.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28- Now is the time to make a decision - on donating organs.

0:01:28 > 0:01:33- From 1 December, it'll be easier for - people in Wales to choose to donate.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35- Since 1 December...

0:01:36 > 0:01:40- ..every person - is required to donate organs...

0:01:40 > 0:01:43- ..unless they opt out.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47- Organ donation is a subject - that's very close to my heart...

0:01:47 > 0:01:51- ..and to my family too, - because I lost my sister Elen...

0:01:51 > 0:01:55- ..to a fatal accident in her home - three years ago.

0:01:55 > 0:02:00- But it was a comfort to us to know - that Elen donated her organs...

0:02:00 > 0:02:03- ..which helped so many people.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07- Two sisters live here - in Garndolbenmaen near Porthmadog...

0:02:07 > 0:02:11- ..and organ donation - is very close to their hearts too.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17- In 2012, Llio Dudley was studying - at Trinity College, Carmarthen...

0:02:17 > 0:02:19- ..when she fell ill.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24- I felt fine, just I knew - that something was wrong.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28- I came home on Thursday - and I went to the doctor on Friday.

0:02:28 > 0:02:33- She told me I should go - to Ysbyty Gwynedd just in case.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38- After tests, it became apparent - that her kidneys were failing.

0:02:38 > 0:02:43- Exactly two years later, I was told - I had to start dialysis that day.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46- She had to have dialysis - five times a week...

0:02:46 > 0:02:51- ..but the only hope for Llio - was to have a transplant.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56- Because of her condition, - a living donor had to be found.

0:02:56 > 0:03:02- That hit me because I couldn't just - ask anyone to donate their organ.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06- So that hit me - in terms of who would donate.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10- My eldest brother Dafydd - was living in Australia at the time.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13- I received a phone call - from the girls.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17- They told me - what was wrong with Llio.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20- I wasn't sure - what they were trying to tell me.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24- But after talking to them more...

0:03:25 > 0:03:29- ..I began to realize - how serious it was.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31- The more I thought about it...

0:03:31 > 0:03:36- ..the easier the decision was - to come home to get myself tested...

0:03:36 > 0:03:39- ..to see if I could help - in the best possible way.

0:03:40 > 0:03:45- The family was tested - to find out if there was a match.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47- There was good news.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50- Dafydd and his mother Iona - were possible donors.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55- But there was one perfect match - - Llio's sister, Ffion.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58- I didn't think twice about it.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00- We're so close.

0:04:00 > 0:04:01- It's just something...

0:04:02 > 0:04:05- I just went for it. - I didn't think about it.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10- On 9 March this year, Ffion - donated her kidney to her sister.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14- The sisters' operation - lasted almost ten hours.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17- It was a worrying time - for the family.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20- I'll never forget it.

0:04:20 > 0:04:21- The longest day...

0:04:22 > 0:04:23- ..of our lives.

0:04:24 > 0:04:30- For me as a mother, my two babies - were going through it.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34- It was a pain you can't describe.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36- I have three scars down my side...

0:04:36 > 0:04:40- ..and one big one - where they removed the kidney.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42- My side is still numb now.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46- I've been told - it'll be like that for about a year.

0:04:47 > 0:04:52- The pain went - after around two months.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58- There's a big difference between - this Christmas and the last one.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07- In tough times, the support - of a community is priceless.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11- We wanted to show support - to the family...

0:05:15 > 0:05:19- We thought about riding a bike - from Garndolbenmaen to Cardiff...

0:05:22 > 0:05:26- We started from the local pub - at midnight on Friday.

0:05:27 > 0:05:32- We arrived at the Mochyn Du around - three in the afternoon on Saturday.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35- The whole Dudley family was there.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37- A pint was waiting for us.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41- It was the nicest pint - I've ever had!

0:05:45 > 0:05:49- In the first three months - after the transplant...

0:05:49 > 0:05:51- ..I was always thanking her.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53- She was telling me, - "Stop thanking me!"

0:05:53 > 0:05:56- We've almost forgotten about it now.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53- ..as a nurse and health visitor - before retiring.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55- But she has never truly retired.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59- She's as busy as ever - helping the elderly.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02- She founded - the Pontarddulais luncheon club...

0:09:02 > 0:09:06- ..which is an important part of the - lives of the elderly in the area.

0:09:07 > 0:09:12- With a lot of people, you have to go - to meet them and ask them to join.

0:17:22 > 0:17:26- She's raised 5,000 towards training - guide dogs for blind people.

0:17:26 > 0:17:31- Perhaps her biggest achievement - was to raise 22,000...

0:17:31 > 0:17:33- ..for the Welsh Air Ambulance.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36- She did that - by collecting 5p pieces.
