0:04:00 > 0:04:06- This Aleutian aeroplane would take - us to Patriot Hills in Antarctica.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19- The four-hour journey - to Patriot Hills...

0:04:20 > 0:04:22- ..would still leave us - a long way from the South Pole.

0:04:23 > 0:04:28- During the journey, the plane's heat - was reduced to help us acclimatise.

0:04:39 > 0:04:44- We landed in Antartica - for the first time, without brakes!

0:04:44 > 0:04:46- They're pointless on ice...

0:04:47 > 0:04:51- ..so a reverse thrust on - the propellers slows the plane down.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17- It's about to be destroyed.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32- You can tell the difference - by the colour of the tails.

0:19:33 > 0:19:38- The royal albatross has a white tail - and a black mark on its beak.

0:19:44 > 0:19:49- The ones in the air are youngsters - who don't know how to flirt!

0:21:06 > 0:21:10- When we heard it was there, we - all rushed to the deck like fools.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14- It's quite far away and it'll - take us a while to pass it.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18- To be honest, we won't see - that much of it when we pass it.

0:22:07 > 0:22:10- ..and it was always light. - Time meant nothing to us.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14- Soon, we had our first look - at the Antarctic...

0:22:23 > 0:22:29- I was expecting us to break through - mounds of ice to reach Antarctica.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33- I was also expecting to reach - Cape Adare tomorrow morning.

0:22:33 > 0:22:37- But a strong wind has blown - the packed ice away.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40- We're almost there.

0:22:40 > 0:22:46- In spite of this, it's still taken - seven days to reach our destination.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50- So, there we are, - we're almost there.
