0:01:22 > 0:01:27The Reds drag their expert kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29- Is it a telly as well?- Yeah, but...

0:01:29 > 0:01:30How much practical use?

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Cos there's no analogue signal any more, is there? So...

0:01:33 > 0:01:36- What did you say? Analogue?- Analogue.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40It's all bloody Greek to me, all this.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44The Blues impress their expert with their discerning eye.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46I mean, what on earth do you like about it?

0:01:46 > 0:01:47Oh, it's just so different.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Well, have a look at it.

0:01:50 > 0:01:51I take no responsibility.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56And there's high drama at the auction.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Let's meet the teams.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Today's show is made up of a couple and a couple of sisters.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07For the Red team, we have Tina and Robert,

0:02:07 > 0:02:11and for the Blue team, Kayleigh and Gina.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13- Welcome, everyone.- OTHERS: Hello.

0:02:13 > 0:02:19Now, Tina, I believe that you're a bit of a whizz at baking,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22and we all know that baking is the new rock and roll.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24- Yes, definitely. - So, tell us a bit about that.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28Yeah, I got into it sort of maybe five years ago now

0:02:28 > 0:02:30and it's sort've gone from step to step.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32I'm taking regular cake orders from friends and family.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34But I do everything from wedding cakes

0:02:34 > 0:02:36to superhero cakes for my nephews,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37cos I've got four nephews now.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41Now, what's this I hear about you throwing yourself

0:02:41 > 0:02:43out of aeroplanes?

0:02:43 > 0:02:45I mean, can you not just sit back and enjoy the flight?

0:02:45 > 0:02:49- No, I like to be a little bit different.- That's my girl.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Yeah, it was through work that organised it,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53cos they raise money for a charity every year,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55and I saw it when they sent an e-mail and thought

0:02:55 > 0:02:57it's something I've always wanted to do, so I thought, "Why not?"

0:02:57 > 0:03:00- Did you enjoy it?- Yeah, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02It was brilliant. Absolutely amazing.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04To me, that's the end, the end in fear.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09Now, Rob, I hear that you are a bit of a whizz with the music.

0:03:09 > 0:03:10Tell me about that.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12I've played guitar in bands before, bass.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15Currently play bass in a band doing all original material, so...

0:03:15 > 0:03:19- Are you famous?- No. - THEY LAUGH

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- Can I get your autograph? - You can have it just in case.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Are you going to be a big star?

0:03:23 > 0:03:25It's a very tough business. We'll see, we'll see.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27I think he's being modest.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30- Do you think he's good? - Yes, yes, I do.- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33- I'm not biased at all.- All right.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Well, I can see a lovely wee glitter in your eye

0:03:35 > 0:03:37when you're talking about your darling.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39So, here you are, a loving couple,

0:03:39 > 0:03:44but what kind of team are you going to make out there in the fair?

0:03:44 > 0:03:47- Well, Tina's very indecisive. - Yeah.- Are you?

0:03:47 > 0:03:50- Yeah, I don't like making decisions. - So you'll make all the decisions?

0:03:50 > 0:03:53I probably will end up making all the decisions, but we'll see.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55You go for it, girl, you go for it.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57- I'll put my foot down.- Yeah. - Put your foot down, yeah.

0:03:57 > 0:03:58Well, that's wonderful.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02- Now, over to the Blues, Kayleigh and Gina.- Hello.

0:04:02 > 0:04:08- Now, Kayleigh, you work as an internal recruitment manager.- Yes.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11But I hear you have an unusual way of keeping fit.

0:04:11 > 0:04:12Tell me about that.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16Yeah, so, I decided to sign myself up a couple of years ago

0:04:16 > 0:04:18for something called Tough Mudder.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21It's basically 12 miles crawling through obstacles

0:04:21 > 0:04:23and getting electrocuted,

0:04:23 > 0:04:26which I willingly did and actually paid to do.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29So I finished that one probably about two years ago.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Crossed the line, cried my eyes out and said I'd never do it again.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34Decided to sign myself up for a second one

0:04:34 > 0:04:37and literally finished that about three months ago.

0:04:37 > 0:04:42- So you can call yourself a Tough Mudder?- Yeah.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46What on earth do you wear when you're a Tough Mudder?

0:04:46 > 0:04:48You actually get a headband and a T-shirt with Tough Mudder on it.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50- And that's all? - And trousers, of course.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52- You're not in your underwear. - Good, good, good.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54But, yeah, no, it was good fun.

0:04:54 > 0:04:59- Well, who knows what you'll be doing next? Mud wrestling?- Maybe not!

0:04:59 > 0:05:02- Gina, you're the younger sister, is that right?- Yeah, I am.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04Now, tell me what you're doing at the moment.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Are you studying or are you working?

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Yeah, I'm currently studying at Nottingham Trent University,

0:05:09 > 0:05:10I'm doing Philosophy and Media.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13- All right. - Just started two weeks ago.

0:05:13 > 0:05:18Now, you both like collecting something unusual.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23I wondered if you could give me a wee INKLING of what that might be?

0:05:23 > 0:05:25We both have the same tattoo.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28We've both got a Deathly Hallows sign.

0:05:28 > 0:05:29BOTH: From Harry Potter.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32- We're big fanatics...- Yes. - ..I'm not going to lie.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34So, yeah, this... We've both got this tattoo!

0:05:34 > 0:05:36No-one really knows what it is, to be fair,

0:05:36 > 0:05:39- but all of the Harry Potter fanatics out there will know.- Right...

0:05:39 > 0:05:45Now, how do you plan to make the Blues the winning team?

0:05:45 > 0:05:48- BOTH: Cheap.- So, it's cheap, cheap, cheap?- Definitely.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50- Well, there you are. - Flutter those eyelashes.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52And now for the money moment.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56£300 each, your experts await.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Off you go, and very, very, very good luck.

0:05:59 > 0:06:04If this goes well, maybe they'll let me get a Bargain Hunt tattoo.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07Let's meet our experts.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09First, who is that masked man?

0:06:09 > 0:06:12Why, it's Phil Serrell for the Reds.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16And making sure the Blues don't go overboard, Mark Stacey.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21- What you going to buy? - Not entirely sure yet. Erm...

0:06:21 > 0:06:24- There's got to be a plan. - No plan whatsoever.- What?

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Now, strategies.

0:06:26 > 0:06:27Any items you're looking for?

0:06:27 > 0:06:29- Jewellery boxes.- Jewellery boxes.

0:06:29 > 0:06:30Do you mean little ring boxes

0:06:30 > 0:06:33or do you mean nice Victorian jewellery boxes?

0:06:33 > 0:06:35Well, what is cheap, basically.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37So, the smaller the better, I imagine.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39Maybe something quirky and a little bit unusual.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42- Something quirky and unusual?- That's quite our taste.- Is that taste?

0:06:42 > 0:06:44I don't like this cheap, you know?

0:06:44 > 0:06:45We have got £300.

0:06:45 > 0:06:51We need to look for...inexpensive... Inexpensive and quality.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54Let's get off to a roaring start.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56- Your time starts now. - SHE ROARS

0:06:56 > 0:06:58Off we go. Yes, off we go.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00Let's go and have a go. Come on.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06What about this stand here?

0:07:06 > 0:07:09- There's a little, sort of ornaments there.- A bit Deco-y, isn't it?

0:07:10 > 0:07:13- Not sure how retro that it is. - LAUGHTER

0:07:13 > 0:07:16- Is it a telly as well? - Yeah, it's a telly and a radio.

0:07:16 > 0:07:18But, how much practical use?

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Cos there's no analogue signal anymore, is there? So...

0:07:21 > 0:07:23What did you say? Analogue?

0:07:23 > 0:07:24Analogue.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28- It's all bloody Greek to me, this. - THEY LAUGH

0:07:28 > 0:07:30I think you're wasting your time there, Rob.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Phil's strictly old school.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Meanwhile, Mark has found something a little bit special.

0:07:36 > 0:07:41- Oh, wow, that's lovely.- The thing with this is it is Rene Lalique.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44- You see, on the bottom, we've got - R Lalique, France.- Yeah.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Which means that was made in the sort of 1920s, '30s

0:07:47 > 0:07:51by, probably, the most famous French glass-maker

0:07:51 > 0:07:54- of the Art Deco period. - It's beautiful.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58- And you've got this rather stylised cockerel...- Yeah.- ..in moulded glass

0:07:58 > 0:08:03and then this little angular faceted top to it.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05- Beautiful thing, isn't it? - Beautiful.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08It's just too, too '70s, it's too expensive.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11- What would it fetch at auction if... - I've never seen one.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13And, you know, if somebody really wanted it,

0:08:13 > 0:08:15- then it might make £300, £400.- Yeah.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19But it's really all about the heart and having a go at something.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23- And what is your heart saying? - I want it. I love it.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25Shall we try talk to them?

0:08:25 > 0:08:28- If we could get down to anywhere below 250.- I'd be happy for 250.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32Is there any chance we could get it down to 250?

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Because then we'd have £50 to find another two items.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37I can do 260 and I think you've got a bargain.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41- 250.- 255 then...- Oh!

0:08:41 > 0:08:44- We don't like fives, do we? - I don't like fives.- Please.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47- 250 and a coffee. - Oh, I can't do coffee.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49That's corruption.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51- All right, 250.- Aw, thank you! - Are you sure?- Yeah, yeah.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55- Are you happy about this, because I don't want you...to feel...- No...

0:08:55 > 0:08:57- I definitely want that. - You definitely want it?- Yes.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00- Are you sure?- 100%.- 100%. - This is yours them.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03- Thank you very much.- Aw, thank you!

0:09:03 > 0:09:05- We've bought quality.- Yay! - Yeah, buzzing!

0:09:05 > 0:09:07The plan was to buy cheap,

0:09:07 > 0:09:11but they've just spent £250 on their first item.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13Surely that's some kind of record.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16And now for something completely different.

0:09:16 > 0:09:21- I think that's wicked, isn't it? - Yeah.- Don't you?- Yeah, that's...95.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25- It's got a nice base on it as well. - It's a bit of fun this, isn't it?

0:09:25 > 0:09:28I've never seen one, I've never seen one.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30And you think it's 1953?

0:09:30 > 0:09:32I think it's '56, '58, something like that.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36If that came into my sale room, I'd sort of kind of put £50-£80 on it.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38What have you got on that?

0:09:38 > 0:09:43It's £95, and the absolute def on it would be £75.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45I do like it, because I think...

0:09:45 > 0:09:48It is different and it's something I've never really come across before.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50Before we dive into this,

0:09:50 > 0:09:52is there anything else that we should be looking at?

0:09:52 > 0:09:55- See, I quite like that Spitfire, as well.- Yeah.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59With its new tail fin, the best on that can be £30.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02In fact, you can ask him to put them both by for you

0:10:02 > 0:10:05on the basis that we'll definitely have that and we might have that,

0:10:05 > 0:10:08and we can come talk to him about price later on, is that all right?

0:10:08 > 0:10:11- That's fine, yeah. No problem. - Thank you very much.

0:10:11 > 0:10:12While the Reds have a ponder,

0:10:12 > 0:10:16for the Blues, the dust is just settling after that first mega buy.

0:10:16 > 0:10:21We're very confident, we've bought our first item within 15 minutes.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23But it's so easy then to rest,

0:10:23 > 0:10:26- and suddenly, we'll have five minutes to find two items.- God.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29- So, you've got to find something. - I'm looking, I'm looking.

0:10:29 > 0:10:33Yes, and make sure it's cheap. Sorry, Mark! Inexpensive!

0:10:33 > 0:10:36- Do know what that is? That's a bell board.- All right, OK.

0:10:36 > 0:10:39So, when you're in bedroom one,

0:10:39 > 0:10:41you just pull the cord, or press the bell,

0:10:41 > 0:10:45this then flashes and me laddo here has to appear

0:10:45 > 0:10:46carrying your morning tea.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50- Oh, nice one.- Do you like that? - Yes. It's different again.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53It's something a little bit quirky.

0:10:53 > 0:10:54What would be your best on that?

0:10:54 > 0:10:56115's the best price we could do on that.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58I think that's probably just a bit too much for us,

0:10:58 > 0:11:01but what I think we should do, let's clear this lady's stall

0:11:01 > 0:11:04- and let's have a recap of where we're going to go outside.- OK.

0:11:04 > 0:11:09After 20 minutes, the Reds still have a whole £300 to spend,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12but the Blues have blown a hole in their budget.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14This could get interesting.

0:11:14 > 0:11:15I can see lots of boxes here.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- This is a rosewood box.- Oh, wow.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22You've got that nice graining of rosewood

0:11:22 > 0:11:25and then all this inlaid brasswork...

0:11:25 > 0:11:27Which is all there, which is nice,

0:11:27 > 0:11:28and then, again, on the top.

0:11:28 > 0:11:31Some people would say Regency is actually early Victorian,

0:11:31 > 0:11:32- I would have thought.- OK.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35And then when we open it up...

0:11:35 > 0:11:38- You can see this is probably the original blue paper.- Oh, wow.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41- Do you see that little...- Yeah. - ..border there.- Yeah.

0:11:41 > 0:11:45That's where a little lady's jewellery tray would have sat.

0:11:45 > 0:11:51- They're not as...hugely commercial as they used to be.- OK.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53- But it is a nice honest Victorian item.- Yeah.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56And you have got a very limited budget,

0:11:56 > 0:11:58so it has to be within that figure.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01So, would you like to go and speak to the dealer?

0:12:01 > 0:12:03- Go on, then, Gina.- OK.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06- Go and ask how much it is while I carry on looking.- How much is this?

0:12:06 > 0:12:08STALLHOLDER: 60.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11We've got about....maximum, about £30.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14No, well, there's lots of boxes on there you can have for £30,

0:12:14 > 0:12:16but I like that one and it's...cos it's...

0:12:16 > 0:12:18- the pattern is still in such good condition.- Hmm, OK.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21While the Blues count the cost of being bold with their first item,

0:12:21 > 0:12:24the Reds need to make some decisions.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26- We've now had half an hour. - Yeah.- OK.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28I'm wondering if we should just go and tell this chap

0:12:28 > 0:12:31- we'll have Spitfire and the... - Yeah...- What do you think?

0:12:31 > 0:12:34- You're quite happy to do that, aren't you?- I'm...I'm, yeah.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38That still leaves one for something a little bit more...to my taste.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40You're making me feel very guilty, my love.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44Hi, we were looking, what's the best deal you could do

0:12:44 > 0:12:46with both the sign and the Spitfire?

0:12:46 > 0:12:50- With the sign, I have to stick to £75, which we agreed on.- Yeah.

0:12:50 > 0:12:56- I will do the Spitfire, because of the sign, for £25.- OK, so 100 and...

0:12:56 > 0:13:00- £100 for the two.- Yeah.- OK? - Sounds good to me.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02- Shake on it?- Cheers.

0:13:02 > 0:13:03That's the first item for the Reds.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05The first two items, actually,

0:13:05 > 0:13:08with a stop sign and a Spitfire weather vane.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12Back with the Blues, and Mark has managed to find something

0:13:12 > 0:13:14more within their price range.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16- Is that a bracelet?- It is.

0:13:16 > 0:13:171960s pop art.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20- It's some sort of caterpillar.- Yeah.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Working its way round there.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26- And it says it's Lucite, which is an American term.- Ah, OK.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30- I mean, we would normally say it's Perspex.- Oh...

0:13:30 > 0:13:33- I think that's jolly good fun. - I do, I really like it.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Have you seen the price?

0:13:35 > 0:13:36- Ten pounds.- Oh, ten pounds.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39I mean, it's really quite different and whacky, isn't it?

0:13:39 > 0:13:41I think that's so different, isn't it?

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Now that at an auction could make a fiver,

0:13:43 > 0:13:45or it could make 20 quid.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47It really depends on the internet bidders,

0:13:47 > 0:13:49- but I think it's really rather charming.- Yeah.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51And you will not go

0:13:51 > 0:13:54- and find another one very easily in the stands.- I think it's unique.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56I think we could get down the price a little bit as well.

0:13:56 > 0:13:57I think you should.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00- Madame! Can we borrow you a second? - You can.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02In your lovely boots.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05- Now, we found this little bit of ridiculous nonsense.- OK.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07I think it's lovely. Is it sort of '50s or '60s?

0:14:07 > 0:14:08Oh, my God, it's only got ten pounds on it.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10Yeah, but we want it to be less.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12I can do it for eight, that's the best I can do for you.

0:14:12 > 0:14:14No, I can't do it for less than that. Sorry.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16- Six?- No, sorry.

0:14:16 > 0:14:17I can do it for eight.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19It's gorgeous, and it's an early piece.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22I do like it, but...I'd prefer seven.

0:14:22 > 0:14:23- I'll do seven then.- Whey!

0:14:23 > 0:14:27- Deal?- Deal.- Just do it? - Seven, yeah?- Deal, seven.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29- Thank you.- OK.- Thanks so much.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31Well done, Blues.

0:14:31 > 0:14:35Second item and still £43 left.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37Now, from one item of jewellery to another,

0:14:37 > 0:14:39here's something I'd really love.

0:14:39 > 0:14:45Commemorative, or souvenir ware, can often be uninspiring.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49It can be mass-produced and of no great quality.

0:14:49 > 0:14:54But often, a little object turns up which is touching and beautiful,

0:14:54 > 0:15:00and gives us an insight into a particular time in history.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03And this little pendant is one such object.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05It commemorates the death

0:15:05 > 0:15:09of Princess Charlotte Augusta.

0:15:09 > 0:15:13It's a typical piece of Georgian jewellery,

0:15:13 > 0:15:17but what makes it interesting is the back panel.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20And we have inscribed on this -

0:15:20 > 0:15:23HRH Princess Augusta,

0:15:23 > 0:15:27died 6th November 1817,

0:15:27 > 0:15:29aged 22.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32Now, Princess Charlotte Augusta

0:15:32 > 0:15:35was the grandchild of mad King George

0:15:35 > 0:15:39and destined to become Queen of England.

0:15:39 > 0:15:43As a child, she was beloved of everyone.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45She was a tomboy, she was reckless,

0:15:45 > 0:15:48she was a wee bit wild.

0:15:48 > 0:15:53Everyone took to her, including the great British public.

0:15:53 > 0:15:58She resisted the political shenanigans of arranged marriage

0:15:58 > 0:16:02and married her beloved Prince Leopold.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05Alas, after 18 months of marriage,

0:16:05 > 0:16:09Princess Charlotte died in childbirth.

0:16:09 > 0:16:13There were great outpourings of public grief.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17It was as if the nation had lost their favourite child.

0:16:17 > 0:16:23Princess Charlotte Augusta's death changed the line of succession

0:16:23 > 0:16:27and in subsequent years put Queen Victoria on the throne.

0:16:27 > 0:16:31So, this little object paints a picture

0:16:31 > 0:16:35of a particular time in British history.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37How much did I pay for it?

0:16:37 > 0:16:39£300 seems a lot,

0:16:39 > 0:16:42but £300 for a slice of history,

0:16:42 > 0:16:44it's nothing at all.

0:16:47 > 0:16:48Back with the shopping.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51Mark and the Blues are still rummaging around

0:16:51 > 0:16:52in the bargain basement.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55- What on earth do you like about it? - Oh, it's just so different.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58- It's bright.- I mean, this is enamelled metal.- Oh, it's metal...

0:16:58 > 0:17:03Yeah, but it's got a rather sort of jazzy pattern on it, I suppose.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06- But...- That is definitely like Marmite, isn't it? Love hate.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09- Definitely, and you love it? - I do love it.

0:17:09 > 0:17:10Well have a look at it.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13I take no responsibility.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15£22.50.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17- How much is it?- BOTH: £22.50.

0:17:17 > 0:17:20Well, to my opinion, that's only £20 overpriced.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23THEY LAUGH

0:17:23 > 0:17:26But, you know, listen, I did say to you, at the beginning,

0:17:26 > 0:17:28you've got to buy things that you really like

0:17:28 > 0:17:32and think, you know... You have bought two very eclectic things

0:17:32 > 0:17:34and this is certainly...eclectic.

0:17:34 > 0:17:38- But will it pour a profit? - No. I don't think it will.

0:17:38 > 0:17:39You haven't asked him his best price.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41He might be desperate to get rid of it. I would be.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44- Are desperate to get rid of it? - STALLHOLDER: Not desperate.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46- There's always a negotiation to be had.- How much would you do?

0:17:46 > 0:17:48- Can I have a look at the bottom... - Sorry.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55I can do it for 15. MARK GASPS

0:17:55 > 0:17:58- Ten?- No.- It's dropped quite a lot.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01- KAYLEIGH:- What about halfway then? £12.50?

0:18:01 > 0:18:03- All right then, 12.50.- 12.50.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06- Happy?- What do you think? - We'll come back to it.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09- Just a little couple more stores to look at.- OK.- All right.- OK?

0:18:09 > 0:18:12Well, ask the dealer to keep it for you if he doesn't mind.

0:18:12 > 0:18:15- For five minutes or so. - Thank you, we won't be long.

0:18:15 > 0:18:17After staking everything on their first item,

0:18:17 > 0:18:19the Blues are really feeling the pinch.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21The Reds are looking for their final item

0:18:21 > 0:18:23and they have £200 left to spend.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27- I love these old jelly moulds. - Those are nice.

0:18:27 > 0:18:28Yeah. Let's just see.

0:18:30 > 0:18:31160...

0:18:31 > 0:18:32Right...

0:18:32 > 0:18:35A bit overpriced, Reds!

0:18:35 > 0:18:37- Now, what have you found? - I do like this.- Why?

0:18:37 > 0:18:39I'm not sure what it is though.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42- It's like a sugar shaker. - You're absolutely right.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45You've been watching a lot of Bargain Hunt.

0:18:45 > 0:18:46You are absolutely right.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50- It's silver-plated, not of any particular age...- OK.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52..and the plating is all coming off.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55I mean, I can't actually believe I'm saying this...

0:18:55 > 0:18:58But this or the teapot, (I'd go for the teapot.)

0:18:58 > 0:19:00Wow! LAUGHTER

0:19:00 > 0:19:02You've changed your tune, Mark.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06Over with the Reds, Phil Serrell, the hard man of Bargain Hunt,

0:19:06 > 0:19:08has come over all romantic.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10I know you really wanted him in the kitchen earlier,

0:19:10 > 0:19:12- but are you into flowers at all? - A little bit.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14Not so much real flowers,

0:19:14 > 0:19:16but I do make paper flowers and things like that.

0:19:16 > 0:19:17- You make your own flowers? - Origami style.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20Do you know what...? I think I love you.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24What have you found?

0:19:24 > 0:19:25This, look...

0:19:25 > 0:19:28- OK.- It's for making flowers.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30- Oh, wow, that's really cool. - Do you like that?

0:19:30 > 0:19:33Yes, cos you could possibly use that with icing as well..

0:19:33 > 0:19:35- Which I put on cakes.- Really?- Yes.

0:19:35 > 0:19:37- Do you like that? - That is really nice.

0:19:37 > 0:19:38So, how much is it worth, then?

0:19:39 > 0:19:41So, what would you pay for this?

0:19:41 > 0:19:44I'm just wondering how much he's going to let me pay for it.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46- I really like that.- So, how much would you pay for that?

0:19:48 > 0:19:50I'm not even sure what it would make at auction.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52Well, that makes two of us.

0:19:52 > 0:19:56- Um...- I've made a career out of doing that wrong.- Maybe...

0:19:56 > 0:19:58Maybe around 30...£30...?

0:20:00 > 0:20:02Possibly. Is it a lot more?

0:20:02 > 0:20:04That is just so sickening.

0:20:06 > 0:20:07Is it a lot?

0:20:09 > 0:20:10- Oh!- It's not bad.- Oh!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15I would think it's probably early part of the 20th century.

0:20:15 > 0:20:19- But we're going to buy that, aren't we?- Yes.- Yeah...OK.

0:20:19 > 0:20:24- We're buying this.- Do you think we should ask him or not?- No.

0:20:24 > 0:20:26Sounds good to me, off you go then. Go and do your deal, my love.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28- Thank you.- This is down to you, all right?

0:20:28 > 0:20:30- Hello, yes?- We're very interested... - Yes...- ..in this.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33What is the absolute best price you can do for us?

0:20:33 > 0:20:36My absolute best price, absolute best price is 32.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41- Yeah, I'm happy with 32.- Oh, you're happy with 32?- Yeah, that's great.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44- I'll wrap it up for you.- OK, that's brilliant, thank you very much.

0:20:44 > 0:20:45- Thank you.- Thank you.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48Well done, Reds. That's all three items bought.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52With just three minutes left, what options do the Blues have?

0:20:52 > 0:20:53Actually, to be honest with you,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- I do think we're going to end up with that...- With that teapot.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59I'm afraid so, it looks like it, doesn't it?

0:21:00 > 0:21:02Royal commemorative...

0:21:02 > 0:21:06The silver wedding of Her Majesty and Prince...

0:21:06 > 0:21:07Queen Elizabeth II

0:21:07 > 0:21:09and his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11I like the silvered handles

0:21:11 > 0:21:14representing the lions for England and the Royal family

0:21:14 > 0:21:17and it's...in good condition.

0:21:17 > 0:21:21- Sounds good.- And I just think it's got a bit of quality about it.- Yeah.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24- Unlike the teapot.- Yeah. - How much is that?

0:21:24 > 0:21:29- Have I got something on it underneath?- Ten.- Ten...

0:21:29 > 0:21:31How about six?

0:21:31 > 0:21:32- Six pounds!- Six pound.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36How much you think it'll make in auction?

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Well, it's got to make more than that.

0:21:38 > 0:21:40I mean, look, it is a modern collectable,

0:21:40 > 0:21:45- but, I mean, it's got to make 15, £20, hasn't it?- I really like that.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48- And it's nicer than that teapot. - I think this.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53- What do you think?- OK, if you think this, we'll go for this.- Yes?

0:21:53 > 0:21:56- Yeah, if you think so. - Go and sort it out.- Come on then.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59Six pounds, yes? We've done it.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01Gosh, that's a relief, not that teapot.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03- HORN SOUNDS, HORSE NEIGHS - Time's up.

0:22:03 > 0:22:05Will it be a photo finish?

0:22:05 > 0:22:08- Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. - Yeah!- We did it!

0:22:08 > 0:22:11263. Well done. I'm really pleased.

0:22:11 > 0:22:12- They're three interesting items. - Yeah.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15Let's remind ourselves what the Reds bought.

0:22:15 > 0:22:21Their first item, bought for £75, is sure to stop the traffic.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23Quicker than you can say chocks away,

0:22:23 > 0:22:27they landed this aeroplane weather vane for £25.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29Finally, they're hoping to make a big impression

0:22:29 > 0:22:31with this little moulded flower press

0:22:31 > 0:22:33bought for £32.

0:22:34 > 0:22:38Well, lovers, how did you get on? You've big smiles on your faces.

0:22:38 > 0:22:40- Did you have a lovely time? - Yes, it was brilliant.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42Yeah, it was really good.

0:22:42 > 0:22:43What was your favourite item?

0:22:43 > 0:22:46I'm torn between two,

0:22:46 > 0:22:48and that was the sort of children crossing stick

0:22:48 > 0:22:51that we bought that was 1950s,

0:22:51 > 0:22:54but probably swaying me more is the sort of iron flower press

0:22:54 > 0:22:56that we bought, the last one we got.

0:22:56 > 0:22:57What about you, Rob?

0:22:57 > 0:23:00I'm sort of split between the same, the lollipop stick

0:23:00 > 0:23:02but also the Spitfire, which is a weather vane.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04- And yeah...- Ah, right...

0:23:04 > 0:23:06- Yeah, so we went for stuff a little bit different.- Yeah.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10Which item will bring the most profit?

0:23:10 > 0:23:13I'm going to go... I'm going to have a punt with the, er...

0:23:13 > 0:23:14The stop sign.

0:23:14 > 0:23:17Oh, you see, I'm thinking the Spitfire might, might be surprising.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20Anyway, how much money did you spend?

0:23:20 > 0:23:22We spent £132.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26- Leftover lolly, £168.- There we go.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28We thought we'd leave Phil some.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31You thought you'd leave Phil loads of money

0:23:31 > 0:23:36to go and buy something really weird.

0:23:36 > 0:23:38You know what, I'm going to go and fly the flag for the Red team.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Yes!

0:23:40 > 0:23:44Meanwhile, let's have a look at what the Blues bought.

0:23:44 > 0:23:49They spent £250, YES, £250 on a Lalique vase.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54They bought a 1960s, caterpillar-design bracelet

0:23:54 > 0:23:55for seven pounds.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57Gro-o-oovy baby.

0:23:57 > 0:23:59And proving they're no mugs,

0:23:59 > 0:24:02they picked up this commemorative porcelain loving cup

0:24:02 > 0:24:04for six pounds.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Well, girls, you look very, very pleased with yourselves.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11- Have you had fun?- Yeah, so much fun.- It's been amazing.- So much fun.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13- Did you spend a lot of dosh? - Um, yeah.

0:24:13 > 0:24:15- A bit too much. - Probably a bit too much.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17- Oh, you're starting to worry now. - Yeah.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20Well, we said our strategy was let's keep it cheap,

0:24:20 > 0:24:22and that went out the window on the first item, so...

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Oh, well, I like a wee bit of the unexpected.

0:24:25 > 0:24:27What's your favourite item?

0:24:27 > 0:24:29Mine's the Lalique vase.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31And mine's the caterpillar bracelet.

0:24:31 > 0:24:32Uh-huh.

0:24:32 > 0:24:36But which item is going to give you most profit?

0:24:36 > 0:24:39- I think the Lalique vase. - I probably agree as well, actually.

0:24:39 > 0:24:41Yeah, I think it's a beautiful item.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44- Two sisters in agreement. - Yeah, at last!

0:24:44 > 0:24:45How much have you spent altogether?

0:24:45 > 0:24:49- So we've spent £263.- So, 37, please.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51Yeah, I'll just get that for you now.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54- So, there is the 37.- Oh, right.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Now, Mark, this isn't a lot of money

0:24:56 > 0:24:59- to give a man of your stature. - THEY LAUGH

0:24:59 > 0:25:01- How are going to do with it? - Don't, stop it, Anita.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05I think I shall find something which I hope isn't a pig in a poke.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09Might be a wee hint.

0:25:09 > 0:25:11But meanwhile, let's go to the auction.

0:25:28 > 0:25:30Today, we're in Stamford,

0:25:30 > 0:25:31Batemans Auctioneers

0:25:31 > 0:25:35with David Palmer, our colourful auctioneer.

0:25:35 > 0:25:36It's lovely to be here, David.

0:25:36 > 0:25:38Hello.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41So, our Red team's first item

0:25:41 > 0:25:44is this stop children crossing sign.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46Well, I love these. They're very decorative.

0:25:46 > 0:25:48Make a good feature in the corner of a room.

0:25:48 > 0:25:50Curiously enough, I've sold a number recently.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52Estimate on that?

0:25:52 > 0:25:53Ten to £20.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56- They paid £75 for it.- Oh...!

0:25:56 > 0:25:59So, we might have a wee bit of a problem with that.

0:25:59 > 0:26:05Our next item is this scratch built model of a Spitfire.

0:26:05 > 0:26:07Does that excite you?

0:26:07 > 0:26:10I think it's fun. We're missing the tailplane, aren't we?

0:26:10 > 0:26:12Which I guess would've driven it round.

0:26:12 > 0:26:13It's certainly been in the wars.

0:26:13 > 0:26:14It's a great looking thing,

0:26:14 > 0:26:19it's got that lovely naive look which is so appealing, I think.

0:26:19 > 0:26:22I think so, and it wouldn't take a lot to get that right,

0:26:22 > 0:26:24and then you could mount it on your house.

0:26:24 > 0:26:27So, estimate on that, David?

0:26:27 > 0:26:2820 to 40.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31Well, they paid £25, so they might do something with that,

0:26:31 > 0:26:33and that would be wonderful.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36Now, this is an interesting little thing here.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38It's a little flower press.

0:26:38 > 0:26:40Tell what you think about.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42I think it's a lovely thing.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45As a tool, you've got the beautiful handle there.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48The casting of the flower head brilliantly done

0:26:48 > 0:26:49into a bit of brass.

0:26:49 > 0:26:51The workmanship in it is brilliant.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53What you do with it though, I don't know.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55What's your estimate on that?

0:26:55 > 0:26:57- Ten to £20.- Ten to 20.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00It's really just a sort of come-and-buy-me, isn't it?

0:27:00 > 0:27:02Er...yes. It's, "Please come and buy me."

0:27:02 > 0:27:06- SHE LAUGHS - Well, they paid £32 for it,

0:27:06 > 0:27:08so we'll have to see an awful lot of pleases

0:27:08 > 0:27:10to...make a profit on that.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12But, all in all,

0:27:12 > 0:27:15we kind of think that they might need their bonus buy.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17I'm fairly certain they'll need their bonus buy.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20Well, let's go and have a look at it!

0:27:22 > 0:27:27Rob, Tina, you spent a respectable £132,

0:27:27 > 0:27:30and you gave Philip 148.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32Philip, did you spend it all?

0:27:32 > 0:27:34I spent £40,

0:27:34 > 0:27:35and I bought this, look...

0:27:35 > 0:27:36Ah!

0:27:36 > 0:27:38I thought I'd fly the flag for the Red team.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40I think it's probably First World War

0:27:40 > 0:27:43and I think this sort of stuff is quite trendy at the moment.

0:27:43 > 0:27:44People use it for decorating shops

0:27:44 > 0:27:47and I think at auction that's going to make £50-£80,

0:27:47 > 0:27:48that's what I think it will make.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Is it something that you would have in your house?

0:27:50 > 0:27:54Not personally, but I can see how people would.

0:27:54 > 0:27:58Well, guys, you don't need to make up your mind just now.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01You make up your mind after you've sold your first three items.

0:28:01 > 0:28:03But, at the moment,

0:28:03 > 0:28:08let's see what the auctioneer thinks of Philip's old red flag.

0:28:10 > 0:28:14David... Royal Ensign, as they call it, the Red Duster.

0:28:14 > 0:28:18- Do you like flags? - I do, and particularly this one.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21Look at it, it's dirty, it's stained, it's got holes.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23It's done something.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25We don't want it pristine,

0:28:25 > 0:28:28we want to think of it at the top of a flagpole,

0:28:28 > 0:28:31flapping for victory, or with pride.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33Yeah, back of a ship, a dreadnought or something like that that.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36You like it, I like it.

0:28:36 > 0:28:37What's your estimate?

0:28:37 > 0:28:39Low estimate, 30 to 50.

0:28:39 > 0:28:4130 to 50. Well, they paid £40,

0:28:41 > 0:28:44so they're sort of straddling there, and we might make it.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46- Could get a little profit on that. - Indeed.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49So, that's the Reds...

0:28:49 > 0:28:50Onto the Blues.

0:28:50 > 0:28:54Our first item here is this wonderful Lalique vase.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56What you think of that? It's a real thing!

0:28:56 > 0:28:58Definitely is a real thing.

0:28:58 > 0:29:01I think it's been reduced, I don't know what you think.

0:29:01 > 0:29:03I agree with you here, David.

0:29:03 > 0:29:05This part here would have been longer,

0:29:05 > 0:29:08and there's been, perhaps, a little nick or a crack,

0:29:08 > 0:29:09and it's been ground down.

0:29:09 > 0:29:12But it has the right marks on it,

0:29:12 > 0:29:13it's a period piece.

0:29:13 > 0:29:15We've got buyers for Lalique,

0:29:15 > 0:29:17but it's this that will make the difference.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20The fact that it's been ground down, I think quite a long way down.

0:29:20 > 0:29:22Well, what's your estimate on that?

0:29:22 > 0:29:26We've been bold, and we've gone for £300-£500.

0:29:26 > 0:29:28They've paid £250,

0:29:28 > 0:29:32so we can smell, maybe, a good profit on that.

0:29:32 > 0:29:34- As long as we're not wrong. - SHE LAUGHS

0:29:34 > 0:29:38So, what about our next thing, the little Lucite bangle.

0:29:38 > 0:29:41Now, we know that's an early plastic.

0:29:41 > 0:29:42It's a fun little piece.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44It looks like a row of little teeth round the end there.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47It does indeed, but it's a caterpillar.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50Let's hope this little caterpillar bracelet

0:29:50 > 0:29:53emerges into a beautiful butterfly of profit.

0:29:53 > 0:29:56- What's your estimate on that? - Our estimate is ten to 20.

0:29:56 > 0:29:57Well, that's good.

0:29:57 > 0:29:59I mean, that's fair enough, isn't it?

0:29:59 > 0:30:00They paid seven pounds,

0:30:00 > 0:30:04so another wee profit there, you know, in the making.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07What about the Paragon cup? Do you like that?

0:30:07 > 0:30:10- I don't dislike it, but it's one of millions.- That's right.

0:30:10 > 0:30:11They're too common.

0:30:11 > 0:30:14- What's your estimate on it? - Again, ten to 20.

0:30:14 > 0:30:15Ten to 20.

0:30:15 > 0:30:17Well, they paid six on that...

0:30:17 > 0:30:19- Oh!- ..so we can maybe get another profit on that.

0:30:19 > 0:30:20We might get lucky.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23- If anyone can do it, you can do it. - Ah-ha, thank you.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26Well, we can see profit in these items here.

0:30:26 > 0:30:28They may not need their bonus buy,

0:30:28 > 0:30:31but we're going to have a look at it anyway.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35Well, my brave and bonnie lassies.

0:30:35 > 0:30:41You have spent a wonderful £263,

0:30:41 > 0:30:43and you gave Mark 37.

0:30:43 > 0:30:44What did you buy with it?

0:30:44 > 0:30:47I bought something which I adore.

0:30:48 > 0:30:51- BLUE TEAM LAUGH - I absolutely love it.

0:30:51 > 0:30:55- I hope it's not a pig and a poke, but I love the glaze.- Hmm...

0:30:55 > 0:30:58And I think he's a real good porker, that one.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01I think there's more than their rasher of profit in that.

0:31:01 > 0:31:04- OK, well, how much do you spend on... BOTH:- The Pig?

0:31:04 > 0:31:06£12.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09- £12, OK, so it's fairly cheap. - It's inexpensive.- Yes.

0:31:09 > 0:31:12It's very inexpensive, thank you, we don't do cheap on my show.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14Inexpensive, you're quite right,

0:31:14 > 0:31:18and I think that has got to make between £30 and £40 at least.

0:31:18 > 0:31:19I think he's wonderful.

0:31:19 > 0:31:21Is there any history to it? How old is it?

0:31:21 > 0:31:24- I think it's probably about 1900. - OK.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26Something like that and probably Devon ware.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29But I just think he's charming, I love his face,

0:31:44 > 0:31:48For the Blues, this little pig has come to market.

0:31:48 > 0:31:50- Do you like it, David? - Yeah, he's not that little, is he?

0:31:50 > 0:31:51He's a big fat pig.

0:31:51 > 0:31:53He's quite sweet, he has a charming expression.

0:31:53 > 0:31:55- Plenty of character to him.- Yeah.

0:31:55 > 0:31:58What you think on a estimate for him?

0:31:58 > 0:31:59I think 20 to 40.

0:31:59 > 0:32:02Well, that's good, because Mark only paid £12.
