0:05:33 > 0:05:37- with the barman opener for opening the bottles...- That's smart.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42..in aluminium and you've got toast to the host...

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Skall, salut and then one in Japanese...

0:05:45 > 0:05:49A votre sante, chin-chin, good luck...

0:05:49 > 0:05:53It's a good thing, isn't it? From probably the 1950s,

0:05:53 > 0:05:55it's Italian by Brevettato.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57Corkscrews are quite popular. What do you think?

0:05:57 > 0:05:58Is it fully functional?

0:05:58 > 0:06:01It is functional because obviously you screw that in

0:06:01 > 0:06:03and as you screw it in, there we are, the arms go up

0:06:03 > 0:06:06- and lift up the bottle, yeah. - How much is it?

0:06:06 > 0:06:09Now, how much is this? You've got £49 on it.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11-Tri deg wyth. -38.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13Ooh, I preferred your 35.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15- Give us a good deal.- OK.- Yeah?

0:06:15 > 0:06:18- Do you like the?- I think it's dead smart, yeah.- I like it.- Yeah?

0:06:18 > 0:06:23It's just something I thought, it's a bit of fun,

0:06:23 > 0:06:27it's not a pretty antique but it's collectable.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30People collect corkscrews and I've never seen this before.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33- Go for it?- Yeah.- Yeah. I think so, definitely.- Definitely.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Cheers, Thomas and well done, Reds.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38That's your first purchase made in minutes.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44How are the Blues getting on?

0:06:44 > 0:06:47So, lots of pots here, guys. You mentioned gold and glitz?

0:06:47 > 0:06:49- Yes.- We've got all that here in the porcelain.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52It's looking more for that object which might just have

0:06:52 > 0:06:54- a bit of a swagger...- OK.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56- ..like you guys.- Brilliant. - Bit of swagger yeah?

0:06:56 > 0:06:57There's your bedpan for later, OK?

0:06:57 > 0:07:00There's no break for a toilet in the hour, OK?

0:07:00 > 0:07:01- The hour's too important.- Oh.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03Very true, Charles.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Let's have a look down here.

0:07:12 > 0:07:17And with the Reds already racing ahead, what have they found now?

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Solid silver horse and jockey,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21the London import mark.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24It's quite cool, that, but I don't know if you'd make a profit on it.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28- No.- Yeah, it's quite cool. I'm looking for something...

0:07:28 > 0:07:31- That's quite cool, a golf set - silver tee...- Yeah, definitely.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33..and the marker. Do you play golf?

0:07:33 > 0:07:35- I try.- Do you?- In the summer, when it's hot.

0:07:35 > 0:07:40- I'm rubbish.- In the summer - oh, you're a fair weather golfer.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43That's quite cool, isn't it? Well, you wouldn't use that to tee off.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45That's for marking your card, isn't it?

0:07:45 > 0:07:47And that round thing is for marking your ball

0:07:47 > 0:07:50when you take it from the green. That is solid silver, quality...

0:07:50 > 0:07:53- That looks nice.- Do you like that or not really?- Yeah, I quite like that.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56- I like it but at 69...- 69.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58- Shall we see what they can do? - Yeah, definitely.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00One-off price, 50 quid.

0:08:00 > 0:08:0219 quid off, that's pretty good.

0:08:02 > 0:08:03That's pretty good, isn't it? £19.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Can I be cheeky and say 49?

0:08:05 > 0:08:06You can be as cheeky as you want but no.

0:08:06 > 0:08:07-49? -No.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10-Just one pound. -No. 51?

0:08:10 > 0:08:14OK, that's fair enough, £50.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16£50 is a solid deal.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19- It's a good present because golf's so popular.- Yes.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23You could certainly, in solid silver, with a marker,

0:08:23 > 0:08:26- it's a good thing.- Yeah.- Well done. - Very happy with that.- Well done.

0:08:26 > 0:08:27Thank you very much.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Wow! These guys are cooking on gas.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32That's a second item bought in 15 minutes.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Well done, Reds.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42Now, are the Blues about to be BOWLED over?

0:08:42 > 0:08:44Do you know, I've never seen a plate like that before.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48The quality is superb. What we've got is a Minton bowl

0:08:48 > 0:08:51and it almost takes you back to the early 20th century.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54This figure here, quite a sort of jester figure.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56Clearly, he's hunting, isn't he?

0:08:56 > 0:08:59In this beautifully raised gilt, enamel border,

0:08:59 > 0:09:03you've got the different game which he is going out

0:09:03 > 0:09:06- probably in the style of King Henry VIII.- Yeah.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09- It's just a wonderful plate or bowl. - It's beautiful.

0:09:09 > 0:09:15It's beautiful. It has the word here which means AF...

0:09:15 > 0:09:20which I presume, sir, means as found or faults?

0:09:20 > 0:09:22If you look very carefully...

0:09:22 > 0:09:24- there's a crack down there somewhere. - Oh, no.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Well, you're very honest because we can't see it, can we?

0:09:27 > 0:09:29- It is difficult to see. - Yeah, good man.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32All I can see, we've got some scratch marks down here...

0:09:32 > 0:09:36- There's a few scratches, a few blemishes but then...- Listen.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38- It's not pinging, is it?- Yeah. - It's not that bad.- No, no.

0:09:38 > 0:09:42- I just can't see the crack, can you? - No, I can't.- Can you see the crack?

0:09:42 > 0:09:44- What's it priced at?- 280.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48- And for 280, how many haircuts can you get for 280?- Absolutely, a lot!

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Exactly. What's the best price, out of interest?

0:09:51 > 0:09:55To you, to help the team...

0:09:55 > 0:09:58- 120.- How much?- 120, wow.- 120?

0:09:58 > 0:10:03I think it's worth in its condition probably 1-150,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06maybe even 150-180. It's a jolly good dish.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Can we put it aside for now, then?

0:10:08 > 0:10:12Sir, you wouldn't take £100 for it? At the bottom?

0:10:12 > 0:10:15- Yes, OK.- I don't believe it. That's fantastic. To me...- No-brainer.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18- ..that's worth 1-150, shake that man's hand.- Yes, absolutely.

0:10:18 > 0:10:19Think you very much.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21It certainly is a good deal. Well, the Blues are off

0:10:21 > 0:10:24and the Minton bowl marks their first purchase...

0:10:28 > 0:10:30..but it's still 2-1 to the Reds.

0:10:30 > 0:10:31We're just 20 minutes in to the shopping

0:10:31 > 0:10:35and the Reds are talking clocks and watches.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39It doesn't have to be a clock, maybe just a pocket watch.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41- Do they sell well? - Pocket watches sell really well.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44- We'll have a look at pocket watches. - OK. Yeah, definitely.

0:10:44 > 0:10:45Pocket watches do do well.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48So with both teams having a good look around the fair,

0:10:48 > 0:10:51the Blues home in on a tray of goodies.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54Wow, look at the jewellery, gents. Are you jewellery people?

0:10:54 > 0:10:57- Are your wives jewellery lovers? - Absolutely.- My wife is.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59- Is she?- Yeah, she likes a bit of bling.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01- Oh, that's quite nice, the heart.- Yes.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04It's enamel set into silver.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06What we look for with jewellery if it's not antique,

0:11:06 > 0:11:09we want style and jewellery that's evocative of certain decades.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Think of Charles Horner,

0:11:11 > 0:11:13think of those wonderful names from the early 20th century.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15This is the sort of material

0:11:15 > 0:11:19they are scratching over the internet for today.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21This tray here, what's all this about?

0:11:21 > 0:11:24These are all designers of the Art Nouveau period

0:11:24 > 0:11:27but all of them are slightly damaged. - How much do you ask for it?

0:11:27 > 0:11:32Well, I've been asking between £5-15 apiece,

0:11:32 > 0:11:33but if you want the whole tray,

0:11:33 > 0:11:35£100 for the whole lot.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39I can't kid you, if they were all in magnificent condition,

0:11:39 > 0:11:42you're looking at brooches and pendants £40-50 each.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45You've got viably £500 worth there,

0:11:45 > 0:11:50it just depends on how far the public, the online bidders

0:11:50 > 0:11:53worry or fret about condition. What do you think?

0:11:53 > 0:11:57It's not something I normally go for but at the price it is...

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Can it go any lower?

0:11:58 > 0:12:01- £100 is the debt on it. - £100's the lowest.

0:12:01 > 0:12:02Let's not change our mind.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05- Madam, Col...- Yeah, yeah.- Are you sure?- Go for it, yeah.- Go for it.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08- Madam, we'll go for it. Thanks a lot, £100.- Thank you.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Thank you, and I hope you do really well on the programme.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Thanks, madam, you're so kind. Thank you very much.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- Happy?- Happy.- Yeah, good man, happy?- Happy.- Oh, my gosh,

0:12:15 > 0:12:17that's two down and want to go. We got how much left over?

0:12:17 > 0:12:18£100.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20And that's the second item bought for the Blues.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23Well done, gentlemen - a really different purchase.

0:12:23 > 0:12:27Now, listen very carefully. I have a question for you.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31When was the last time you splashed the cash,

0:12:31 > 0:12:33just bought something you didn't really need

0:12:33 > 0:12:35but you just had to have?

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Well, that could have been a fancy mobile phone,

0:12:38 > 0:12:41it could have been a really designer perfume

0:12:41 > 0:12:45but if you're living in late 19th century Imperial Russia,

0:12:45 > 0:12:48a great show of wealth, something that you didn't really need

0:12:48 > 0:12:50but you wanted your peers to know that you have,

0:12:50 > 0:12:54would have been a gorgeous premium bit of Russian silver.

0:12:54 > 0:12:59Here, I have an absolutely lovely Imperial Russian

0:12:59 > 0:13:03late 19th-century cloisonne enamel Russian silver bowl.

0:13:03 > 0:13:08Really, it's just a little delight. Its purpose?

0:13:08 > 0:13:12Well, it's a bowl. Stick a bonbon in it, stick whatever you like in it

0:13:12 > 0:13:14but it wasn't there to be functional.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18It was there to show your Russian bourgeoisie pals

0:13:18 > 0:13:22that you had money and you could spend it on anything you wanted.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24The maker here is marked on the bottom.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26His Cyrillic initials are here

0:13:26 > 0:13:30and his name is Nikolai Strulev.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33What exactly is cloisonne enamel? Well, it's nice, it ties in

0:13:33 > 0:13:36because the real first language of the Russian aristocracy

0:13:36 > 0:13:38was in fact French, and this would have appealed to them,

0:13:38 > 0:13:43because cloisonne in French stands for partition in English.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47These little partitions of silver are raised away from the main body

0:13:47 > 0:13:52of the silver bowl and are filled with beautiful polychromatic enamel.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55Whilst you got that real Russian Imperial look

0:13:55 > 0:14:00with the floral band around the middle, quite heady and scrolling

0:14:00 > 0:14:03and filled with colour, you have the much more schematic border

0:14:03 > 0:14:08here at the foot with nice, very simple white dots

0:14:08 > 0:14:10and these teardrop shapes of blue that are interwoven

0:14:10 > 0:14:14beside one another to create a very Moorish feel.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16It's almost like a tiled floor that you would see

0:14:16 > 0:14:20in an Ottoman empire building. It's absolutely stunning.

0:14:20 > 0:14:23So, what's it worth today? We know what it meant in Imperial Russia

0:14:23 > 0:14:28but on today's current market, probably £200-300 -

0:14:28 > 0:14:31much more than the silver weight because really,

0:14:31 > 0:14:34the value is in the quality of this item.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36I'll tell you something for nothing,

0:14:36 > 0:14:40this Nikolai Strulev is appealing to me,

0:14:40 > 0:14:41Natasha.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44- RUSSIAN ACCENT:- He's really warming my Russian blood.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48Back to the shopping and we're halfway through.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Both teams have two purchases under their belts.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54What have the Reds spotted now?

0:14:54 > 0:14:56I'm going to show you this one -

0:14:56 > 0:15:00Rotary, Swiss made, it's got a date,

0:15:00 > 0:15:03self winding movement, it doesn't need a battery.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05Feel the weight of that.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09- It's quite a nice thing, isn't it? - Yeah, that's really nice.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12- Actually, I've never owned a wristwatch myself.- What?

0:15:12 > 0:15:14- I don't know...- Nor have I. - I've never owned one.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16I won't be asking you the time!

0:15:16 > 0:15:18I've owned one but I've never worn one.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21- I'm just going to make a little enquiry.- Yeah, OK.

0:15:21 > 0:15:22Get it for 20 quid.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25£20? No way.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28- £175.- Time for him to work his magic.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30Yeah, and what was its original price?

0:15:30 > 0:15:34225, it's a good deal. They are popular.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- I can't say hand on heart you're going to make a profit on it.- OK.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41We're going to have a look at other things and I think if we can't,

0:15:41 > 0:15:42- we buy this.- Definitely, I agree.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44- Yeah?- Yes.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Right, keep looking, Reds.

0:15:46 > 0:15:50Meanwhile, back to the Blues and how about a time check, Charles?

0:15:50 > 0:15:53- We've already had 35 minutes.- Wow. - Yeah, 35 minutes, Colin.

0:15:53 > 0:15:56- Which leaves us how long to go? - 25 minutes to go.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58- Correct, correct.- Time flies when you're having fun.

0:15:58 > 0:16:02It certainly does, guys, but it can also run away with you.

0:16:02 > 0:16:06Remember, you still have one more item to buy.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08Now, what have they found here?

0:16:08 > 0:16:14It's a lovely 1905 Edwardian Arts and Crafts box

0:16:14 > 0:16:16which perhaps you can keep collectables in

0:16:16 > 0:16:18or sewing requisites.

0:16:18 > 0:16:19- Is it silver?- Yes, it is silver.

0:16:19 > 0:16:23- It's hallmarked just on the base here...- Yeah.

0:16:23 > 0:16:28- ..hallmarked Birmingham.- Is that moulded or is it just...

0:16:28 > 0:16:32It's been hammered out from the interior

0:16:32 > 0:16:36to put this wonderful silver embossed exterior in to relief.

0:16:36 > 0:16:38Is this the original or not?

0:16:38 > 0:16:41It's all original except the material and the insides.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44I've covered it with that piece of tartan cloth

0:16:44 > 0:16:46which came out of the sea after a storm.

0:16:46 > 0:16:47Is there a key for it?

0:16:47 > 0:16:49- No keys, though, is there at all for it?- No.

0:16:49 > 0:16:53- What do you think?- I like it - it's a nice, solid piece,

0:16:53 > 0:16:55It's something that can be used.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57What's the best price we can get on this?

0:16:57 > 0:16:59Your best price, sir, is...

0:16:59 > 0:17:01£80.

0:17:01 > 0:17:0270?

0:17:02 > 0:17:04SELLER SPEAKS IN WELSH

0:17:04 > 0:17:06- What does that mean?- 70, no, no.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09No. What's 75 in Welsh?

0:17:09 > 0:17:10Go for it, Charles.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13Saith deg pump?

0:17:13 > 0:17:14- Saith deg wyth.- 78.

0:17:14 > 0:17:1578.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17We're going to Cheshire,

0:17:17 > 0:17:20I would see this in the saleroom at between £60-100.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23We could either mental note this now

0:17:23 > 0:17:26- and in the last ten minutes go for a run.- OK.- Yeah.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28- That might be the good idea. - That's the best thing to do...

0:17:28 > 0:17:31OK, think about it, Blues, one for the back burner, maybe.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39Now, back to the Reds and they're still busy looking at tick-tocks.

0:17:40 > 0:17:45- 650.- OK, well, that one's out. - 1,000...

0:17:45 > 0:17:48- What one catches your eye here? - I'm going for the wristwatch.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50- Can I look at this one?- Yes, do.

0:17:50 > 0:17:52This is the army trade pattern

0:17:52 > 0:17:54that timed 30 seconds day in four positions.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- It's by Bravington, those are the people who have retailed it.- OK.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00- See that broad arrow mark there, can you see that?- Yes.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03That broad arrow mark means that it's been issued

0:18:03 > 0:18:07by the government for military use.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09These hands would have luminesced.

0:18:09 > 0:18:13- I can't see a price on that.- 150.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15150.

0:18:15 > 0:18:17Is that the very best on it?

0:18:17 > 0:18:20- 120, then.- 120?

0:18:20 > 0:18:21Thank you.

0:18:21 > 0:18:25Do you like that one or do you prefer the Rotary at 175?

0:18:25 > 0:18:27- I prefer the Rotary...- I prefer it.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29But as you say that is a 50 quid difference, isn't it?

0:18:29 > 0:18:33There's a £50 difference and one is army, one is gold.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35What do you think? It's more about the profit, though.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37Yes, you've got to think about profit.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39This is a watch which is over 74 years old

0:18:39 > 0:18:43but it's a military watch so it's a World War II watch,

0:18:43 > 0:18:45- a lot going for it. - It's got character.

0:18:45 > 0:18:47It will bring another market in to it.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50I like the gold watch but this has watch collectors,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53Second World War collectors and military collectors.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55- Yeah, more markets. - More of a market.

0:18:55 > 0:18:59- I quite like it.- I'm very keen. - Very keen.- Very keen, keen bean.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01- You're a keen bean?- Yes.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04- You did go for the expensive one. - I did, I did.

0:19:04 > 0:19:07Well, I'd say that's good taste, would you not say? Yeah.

0:19:07 > 0:19:08£120.

0:19:08 > 0:19:11And with that, the Reds make their third and final purchase.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Congratulations, gentlemen.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18Meanwhile, the Blues are still browsing the fair

0:19:18 > 0:19:20looking for the last item.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22There's now less than ten minutes to go.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29There's some nice jewellery here.

0:19:31 > 0:19:35The clock's ticking, lots of looking isn't resulting in a purchase.

0:19:35 > 0:19:37We've got to move and groove, OK?

0:19:39 > 0:19:42- Right.- Nothing on there catching the eye.

0:19:45 > 0:19:46Ah -

0:19:46 > 0:19:47looks like they found something.

0:19:47 > 0:19:49- I just...- We've literally got two minutes to go.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52I like the overall shape and I like the fact that it's a bronze figure

0:19:52 > 0:19:54and I think the price is pretty decent.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57Yeah, it all depends on her age.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00Take her spear off, see where the dealer is very quickly?

0:20:00 > 0:20:01Hello, sir?

0:20:01 > 0:20:02Come on, boys!

0:20:02 > 0:20:03- Is it your bronze, sir?- Sorry?

0:20:03 > 0:20:05- Is it your bronze here? - It's my bronze.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Yeah, is she old or quite new?

0:20:07 > 0:20:10She's new, isn't she? She's new.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12Didn't it say on the...

0:20:12 > 0:20:15No, I think she's new, I think she's new, guys.

0:20:15 > 0:20:19Too new for Charles so it's back for the silver box.

0:20:19 > 0:20:20Let's go.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22Run, seriously.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24Come on, Colin. Let's go, Colin.

0:20:24 > 0:20:26Quick.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29Come on, quick. Quick, Colin. Quick, there's no time!

0:20:29 > 0:20:30There's no time. Hello, sir.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32- The box is still there. - Box is still here.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36Frankly, I'm not that keen on the box just because that lid is later.

0:20:36 > 0:20:37Have you anything else, sir?

0:20:37 > 0:20:38What?

0:20:38 > 0:20:42You've got seconds left and you're looking at another item?

0:20:42 > 0:20:44If I was going to buy for a Cheshire market

0:20:44 > 0:20:47and thinking hunting interest and all of that, country pursuits,

0:20:47 > 0:20:48- feel the weight of the lurcher.- Yes.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51Feel the... The box or the lurcher?

0:20:51 > 0:20:52The lurcher.

0:20:52 > 0:20:57Yeah, 19th-century bronze, nicely made, good patination, medium brown.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59- How much, sir?- £70.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03And I would probably say to you my gamble in terms of making money

0:21:03 > 0:21:05would be to go for the dog.

0:21:05 > 0:21:07- We'll go for the dog.- Yeah? - We've both got dogs as well.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10- Yeah, yeah.- We've both got dogs. - Shake the man's hand.

0:21:10 > 0:21:12- Thanks a lot, sir.- Thank you. - We're so grateful.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Phew!

0:21:14 > 0:21:17Right, time to call a halt on today's activities.

0:21:17 > 0:21:19Time is up.

0:21:19 > 0:21:21It's a funny old game, isn't it?

0:21:21 > 0:21:23We came back for the box and we bought a thing with four legs,

0:21:23 > 0:21:27a dog. To me, the dog's a real winner. Auction, here we come.

0:21:27 > 0:21:28- That's it.- Good boy.

0:21:28 > 0:21:29Just in the nick of time.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33You've done it, all three items in the bag, well done.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36Let's take a peek now at what the Red Team bought.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42First up, this novelty corkscrew and bottle opener was uncorked for £35.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46Next, they shot straight down the antique fairway

0:21:46 > 0:21:50with a silver golf tee pencil and marker for £50

0:21:50 > 0:21:54and finally, they bought this World War II army trade pattern

0:21:54 > 0:21:56Swiss wristwatch for £120.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01Well, hello, gentlemen. How are you?

0:22:01 > 0:22:03- Very well, thank you.- Very well.

0:22:03 > 0:22:06- I gather you bought a watch?- We did.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09- Tell me about that, your first ever watch.- That is it, yeah.

0:22:09 > 0:22:10And just yours or yours too?

0:22:10 > 0:22:12- My favourite's the watch, yeah. - Oh, my goodness.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15I think we both agree that that's our favourite. Definitely, yeah.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18- But is it going to bring the most profit?- This is where...

0:22:18 > 0:22:20I think the golf tee will bring the most profit.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22OK, the golf tee and what about that corkscrew,

0:22:22 > 0:22:23how do you reckon its chances are?

0:22:23 > 0:22:25I like it

0:22:25 > 0:22:27but I'm going to stick with the watch. It's my favourite

0:22:27 > 0:22:29and I think it's going to bring most profit as well.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32The watch it is. What did you spend overall?

0:22:32 > 0:22:36- We spent £205.- That's all right, I tell you, nearly there.

0:22:36 > 0:22:39- Yeah, here you go, the leftovers. - If I can have that £95 back.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42Very grateful, as will Thomas be.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45- Yes.- Excited to have £95 to spend?

0:22:45 > 0:22:48I'm very excited. These two want to be surprised, don't you?

0:22:48 > 0:22:50- We do.- Yeah.- Out of the ordinary.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53- Yes.- We're relying on you. - I'll do my best.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55Off you go, buy something strange.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57We will see what the Blue Team bought.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Their first purchase was a Minton earthenware bowl for £100.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09Next up, they pinned £100

0:23:09 > 0:23:13on a collection of ladies' silver brooches

0:23:13 > 0:23:16and their last item was this early 20th century bronze model

0:23:16 > 0:23:18of a lurcher for £70.

0:23:18 > 0:23:19Ruff, ruff!

0:23:21 > 0:23:22Guys,

0:23:22 > 0:23:24you apparently were all over the place.

0:23:24 > 0:23:27You were right on track, then what happened?

0:23:27 > 0:23:29We just lost track of time, it just went so quick.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31- We got there in the end.- The dog? - By the hair of the dog.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34What a spot. That Charles, he'd never miss a prize lurcher,

0:23:34 > 0:23:36he'd never let that slip him by,

0:23:36 > 0:23:38but what is your favourite item?

0:23:38 > 0:23:40My favourite is the bowl.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43I think it's got a bit of history in it and just caught our eye

0:23:43 > 0:23:44and the price was right as well.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Favourite is the bowl. Jason, what's your favourite?

0:23:47 > 0:23:48My favourite is the dog.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52I'm a dog man and I've got two dogs at home,

0:23:52 > 0:23:54and Charles spotted an absolute gem there,

0:23:54 > 0:23:56and I think that's my favourite.

0:23:56 > 0:23:58So, what's going to make the best profit then?

0:23:58 > 0:24:03I think the bowl we had, for me personally.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05I think the bowl but it could go any other way.

0:24:05 > 0:24:07It could go either way. Jason, what you reckon?

0:24:07 > 0:24:12For me, I think the brooches and all the little quirky items in the box.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14I think we got an absolute steal on them

0:24:14 > 0:24:16and I think I can see them flying in the sale.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18Yeah. So what did you spend in total?

0:24:18 > 0:24:20We spent £270.

0:24:20 > 0:24:23You've done all right, but you've only left Charles £30.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25Could I please have it from you?

0:24:25 > 0:24:26- £30, Charles.- I know, it's a sliver.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28What are you going to do with that?

0:24:28 > 0:24:31Something, I think, bearing in mind these hairdresser friends of mine,

0:24:31 > 0:24:32- something very clean cut.- Oh.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34And a snip at the price, ah.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36OK, off you go then.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38So, while Charles finds his bonus buy,

0:24:38 > 0:24:39let's go straight to the auction.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49I've made the journey east from Anglesey over to Cheshire.

0:24:56 > 0:25:01I find myself at Northwich Auctions and I'm in the fabulous company

0:25:01 > 0:25:03of the exciting Peter Critchley, auctioneer.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06- How are you today?- Hello. Fine, thank you, nice to see you.

0:25:06 > 0:25:07Oh, good, it's great to see you.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09Now, Joe and Trey were today's Red Team

0:25:09 > 0:25:12and they started as students as they meant to go on

0:25:12 > 0:25:16with a bottle opener, a novelty corkscrew in the form of a barman.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18What are your thoughts, Peter?

0:25:18 > 0:25:20Well, we can sell corkscrews for quite a lot of money,

0:25:20 > 0:25:22but not, I think, this one, I'm afraid.

0:25:22 > 0:25:24Oh, dear.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27It's a bit of 1960s kitsch barman opener

0:25:27 > 0:25:31but it may well struggle to meet our minimum bid of £10, I'm afraid.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34- You think it'll struggle to make a tenner?- I think it may struggle.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36Have you tried it and tested it?

0:25:36 > 0:25:39We've technically tested it and it is in complete working order.

0:25:39 > 0:25:40As you know, we don't give guarantees

0:25:40 > 0:25:43but I believe it will work for a number of years to come.

0:25:43 > 0:25:46We've put 20 to 40 on it actually

0:25:46 > 0:25:50- but I think we were being a little optimistic.- They paid £35 for it.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53£35, right. OK, well, we will try our level best.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56- If it all goes wrong, then we'll just hit the drink.- Absolutely.

0:25:56 > 0:26:01Next up, we have a lovely hallmarked silver set here. I really like this.

0:26:01 > 0:26:02It's a propelling pencil -

0:26:02 > 0:26:05functional both as your golf marker and your tee -

0:26:05 > 0:26:09and then an actual sterling silver marker for your ball as well.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12All hallmarked, all in this lovely box.

0:26:12 > 0:26:14Please, tell me what you think about this. Are you a golfer?

0:26:14 > 0:26:16I'm not a golfer myself, no,

0:26:16 > 0:26:18but we've sold a number of these in the past

0:26:18 > 0:26:23and they are useful in terms of, what should I buy him for Christmas.

0:26:23 > 0:26:24Yes, the man who has everything.

0:26:24 > 0:26:28They're small, they're easy to wrap, they're not too expensive

0:26:28 > 0:26:30so these items have always been good sellers.

0:26:30 > 0:26:33What do you think someone in your auction house is going to pay?

0:26:33 > 0:26:34We've put 30 to 50 on it

0:26:34 > 0:26:36and I'm confident it should be round about there.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38Well, the boys paid the top end, £50 paid,

0:26:38 > 0:26:40- but I think we should get that, don't you?- We stand a chance.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Yeah, a great gift item.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45Moving on, more, again, boys and their toys

0:26:45 > 0:26:47but in a sort of different way because here we have

0:26:47 > 0:26:50a very collectable World War II wristwatch.

0:26:50 > 0:26:52Any militaria is a good seller.

0:26:52 > 0:26:53It's got the crow's foot on the reverse,

0:26:53 > 0:26:57it's an army trade patterned watch retailed by Bravingtons.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01I'm thinking round about the £50 mark. It's in nice condition

0:27:01 > 0:27:05and it is actually working, which is unusual for watches of that period.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08Thomas and the boys have paid £120.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10- Right.- They have.

0:27:10 > 0:27:14I think that their thinking was there, it's so wearable.

0:27:14 > 0:27:15I think they are wearable.

0:27:15 > 0:27:18The problem is that they were made to government contracts

0:27:18 > 0:27:21during the war and they're made by the tens of thousands.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23There are an awful lot of them about.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26- I would say £50 is round about the mark.- Well, who knows?

0:27:26 > 0:27:29Not so much rarity but plenty of wearability

0:27:29 > 0:27:32and according to Peter, the Red Team might need their bonus buy,

0:27:32 > 0:27:33so let's go and find out what it is.

0:27:35 > 0:27:37Well, Joe, you're here on your own

0:27:37 > 0:27:40and that very much begs the question, where on earth is Trey?

0:27:40 > 0:27:42- He missed his train.- He did not!

0:27:42 > 0:27:45Yeah, he's going to be here for the auction but he missed his train.

0:27:45 > 0:27:47Oh, you students. Was he out last night?

0:27:47 > 0:27:50Erm...

0:27:50 > 0:27:51Well, let's get back to business.

0:27:51 > 0:27:54You spent quite a handsome amount on your hour with Thomas.

0:27:54 > 0:27:55Do you remember how much?

0:27:55 > 0:27:59- 205.- 205, so 95 left.

0:27:59 > 0:28:00Thomas, how did you get on?

0:28:00 > 0:28:03- At least you turned up today. - I know! I thought, well,

0:28:03 > 0:28:04how could I not, you know?

0:28:04 > 0:28:07It was a real pleasure, we had such fun, we bought well.

0:28:07 > 0:28:11I thought, "Ooh, do I buy something really manly,

0:28:11 > 0:28:16"these masculine men, these fit, lithe youths?"

0:28:16 > 0:28:17No.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20I've like you to see what that is.

0:28:20 > 0:28:22- Open up, go on, take it. - What is this?

0:28:22 > 0:28:25What is it? There's a little hinge there

0:28:25 > 0:28:27- and then pour it into your hand.- Ah.

0:28:27 > 0:28:28OK.

0:28:28 > 0:28:32It's what every young man needs on a night out, it's a pair of scissors.

0:28:32 > 0:28:34I love travel antiques.

0:28:34 > 0:28:39It's a little travelling pair of scissors for doing one's nails.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41We did actually ask for something quirky and I mean,

0:28:41 > 0:28:44this is definitely quirky. It ticks the boxes there.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46I don't know, I like it.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49It's got a bit of wear and tear but at least that shows that it's used.

0:28:49 > 0:28:51Well, it gives it a bit of character.

0:28:51 > 0:28:53And are you interested to know how much Thomas spent?

0:28:53 > 0:28:55Well, obviously, yeah.

0:28:55 > 0:28:57- Well, I didn't spend it all.- OK.

0:28:57 > 0:28:59- It was only £40.- OK.

0:28:59 > 0:29:04I think there's a profit there because they're novel silver items

0:29:04 > 0:29:07- and people love to put these things in cabinets.- Definitely.

0:29:07 > 0:29:11Well, Thomas loves them, I think you like them,

0:29:11 > 0:29:13we'll soon find out what Trey thinks when he gets here

0:29:13 > 0:29:16but for you guys at home, let's find out if the auctioneer thinks

0:29:16 > 0:29:19that Thomas' scissors are, of course, a cut above the rest.

0:29:20 > 0:29:23Here is the bonus buy from Thomas for the Reds

0:29:23 > 0:29:25which, chances are, they might need.

0:29:25 > 0:29:27It's lovely, it's looped for suspension

0:29:27 > 0:29:32in this lovely hallmarked silver case, and what does it case?

0:29:32 > 0:29:35Some lovely folding scissors, a really nice thing.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38- What do you think about that ? - It's a nice interesting lot,

0:29:38 > 0:29:421924 hallmarks on it. Normally, that looks a little like a needle case

0:29:42 > 0:29:45so it's nice to have the scissors inside it.

0:29:45 > 0:29:48A very nice item, we've estimated it at £60-£80

0:29:48 > 0:29:50and I think it will make that all day long.

0:29:50 > 0:29:54Fantastic, only £40 was paid so if you think it will make 60-80,

0:29:54 > 0:29:57that could be a cracking bonus buy for Joe and Trey.

0:29:57 > 0:30:00- Yes, I believe so. - What about our Blues?

0:30:00 > 0:30:03We're starting off with this quite fabulous bowl.

0:30:03 > 0:30:06This is Jason and Colin's choice now. What do you think of it?

0:30:06 > 0:30:08I think it does have a lot going for it.

0:30:08 > 0:30:12It's Minton, one of the better English ceramic makers.

0:30:12 > 0:30:15It's a deer hunting, you've got deer hounds on it,

0:30:15 > 0:30:17but it does have something going against it

0:30:17 > 0:30:19which is, if I can...

0:30:19 > 0:30:21DULL THUDS

0:30:21 > 0:30:23Oh, not a great sound.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27Ceramic is not really supposed to sound like that

0:30:27 > 0:30:31and the reason is that it has a large crack in it.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34- Oh, dear, so it does.- You can see it through there.

0:30:34 > 0:30:36Did they notice the damage on the item?

0:30:36 > 0:30:40Oh, yes, Charles did notice it. This was priced at 280

0:30:40 > 0:30:42and they got that for £100.

0:30:42 > 0:30:46He really did think that still at £100 it was worth

0:30:46 > 0:30:47giving it a go in the auction.

0:30:47 > 0:30:51As a retail price, a couple of hundred pounds for a perfect one

0:30:51 > 0:30:53is probably good but when you damage ceramics

0:30:53 > 0:30:56which are only 70 or 80 years old,

0:30:56 > 0:30:59you really do damage the price on them, so we've estimated it

0:30:59 > 0:31:01round about the £50 mark.

0:31:01 > 0:31:03I think they will struggle to get a lot more than that,

0:31:03 > 0:31:07to be perfectly honest. A lovely thing but it is fatally damaged.

0:31:07 > 0:31:09Well, he thought it was worth a go and we'll see how it goes.

0:31:09 > 0:31:10We'll see how it goes.

0:31:10 > 0:31:15Moving on to more enamelled items, Charles led the gents to this box

0:31:15 > 0:31:20of miscellaneous cracked bits of enamelled brooches, belt buckles,

0:31:20 > 0:31:24the whole lot. I don't think there's one bit that isn't in disrepair,

0:31:24 > 0:31:27but there's certainly a lot for your lovely.

0:31:27 > 0:31:29There is a lot for your money there.

0:31:29 > 0:31:33Everything has some damage to it. Sometimes the damage is the enamel,

0:31:33 > 0:31:38sometimes the damage is the pen. They are all repairable

0:31:38 > 0:31:41and if they were not damaged,

0:31:41 > 0:31:45- we'd be looking round about the £500 mark, I would think.- Absolutely.

0:31:45 > 0:31:46There is some scope there.

0:31:46 > 0:31:51I think it's a very good lot and we've estimated it at 80-120.

0:31:51 > 0:31:54I think it will do better than that, better than the top estimate.

0:31:54 > 0:31:57Well, Charles convinced the gentleman they should pay £100,

0:31:57 > 0:31:59- a third of their money on this. - That was an excellent buy.

0:31:59 > 0:32:02Oh, fantastic. Now, we're back to dogs here.

0:32:02 > 0:32:03We've got our hunt on this plate

0:32:03 > 0:32:07but now we're moving on to dogs and specifically, a lurcher.

0:32:07 > 0:32:10I think the breed is important, lurchers are good sellers.

0:32:10 > 0:32:13The hunting, shooting, fishing theme really carries through on that.

0:32:13 > 0:32:16- Yeah.- This particular one is a bronze -

0:32:16 > 0:32:20it is hollow bronze not a solid bronze - but it's well made,

0:32:20 > 0:32:22well cast and there is some age to it.

0:32:22 > 0:32:25It's an English bronze, probably 80 or 90 years old.

0:32:25 > 0:32:29- It's a nice item and it should do well.- Oh, fantastic.

0:32:29 > 0:32:32- What's your estimate on the lurcher? - We put 80-120 on it.

0:32:32 > 0:32:36Fantastic, that's great news because Charles paid £70 for it.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38Oh, I don't think there'll be a problem with that at all.

0:32:38 > 0:32:40Oh, I hope not, but if they need their bonus buy,

0:32:40 > 0:32:43let's find out what Charles got for them.

0:32:43 > 0:32:44Well, I feel like Shirley Bassey

0:32:44 > 0:32:46cos I'm with a couple of big spenders here.

0:32:46 > 0:32:48What a whale of a time you had with Charles.

0:32:48 > 0:32:50Tell me how much you spent.

0:32:50 > 0:32:53- We spent £270.- That's a handsome amount, isn't it?

0:32:53 > 0:32:56- You didn't leave him much, £30. - Yeah.- Charles, how did you do?

0:32:56 > 0:33:00- Please reveal your buy.- We were pumped up, weren't we?

0:33:00 > 0:33:02We were hunting down those bargains

0:33:02 > 0:33:06and sometimes in our hour it was very much anger restrained,

0:33:06 > 0:33:08conquest gained.

0:33:10 > 0:33:12- Oh, look at that. - Look at that, guys.

0:33:12 > 0:33:14What do you think?

0:33:14 > 0:33:17- That's smart. Yeah, I like that. - Do you like it, really?

0:33:17 > 0:33:20You shocked him into silence there for a moment.

0:33:20 > 0:33:22Sometimes when you can't quite find that bargain,

0:33:22 > 0:33:25you need to buy something which has got real age.

0:33:25 > 0:33:28Jason and Colin, this is about 1825.

0:33:28 > 0:33:32It's hand tinted, it's printed with the inscription,

0:33:32 > 0:33:34probably made in Staffordshire

0:33:34 > 0:33:36and if it could talk, what could it tell us?

0:33:36 > 0:33:39It might say, "Well, I was made ten years after Nelson."

0:33:39 > 0:33:41- I think it's marvellous. - Really?

0:33:41 > 0:33:44I think the inscription is fantastic,

0:33:44 > 0:33:46"Anger restrained is conquest gained."

0:33:46 > 0:33:48I think that sums up...

0:33:48 > 0:33:49And I thought of you in your salon

0:33:49 > 0:33:52and sometimes you need patience with a short back and sides.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55Yeah, you need that half the time, yeah.

0:33:55 > 0:33:58It cost me £30.

0:33:58 > 0:34:00He's gone all out for you, guys, he's gone all out for you.

0:34:00 > 0:34:04- £300 spent in total, that's amazing. - Yeah.- Yeah.

0:34:04 > 0:34:06And for you at home, viewers, let's go and find out

0:34:06 > 0:34:08if the auctioneer thinks that a conquest is on the cards

0:34:08 > 0:34:11for the Blue Team.

0:34:11 > 0:34:14- Here it is, Peter, Charles Hanson's bonus buy.- Very good.

0:34:14 > 0:34:18Anger restrained, conquest gained.

0:34:18 > 0:34:19Possibly not, in truth.

0:34:19 > 0:34:25It's a little jug, it's lustreware, but there is damage to it

0:34:25 > 0:34:28and the damage is on a repair,

0:34:28 > 0:34:31- so it's got two things not going well for it.- A double whammy.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33A double whammy, I'm afraid, on that one

0:34:33 > 0:34:36so we've estimated it at £20-£40

0:34:36 > 0:34:39and we may be lucky to get the bottom end of that, in truth.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41Well, Charles paid £30 for it.

0:34:41 > 0:34:44Charles has done very well on the purchases of the other two items

0:34:44 > 0:34:48- but has bought two pieces of broken ceramic.- Oh, my goodness.

0:34:48 > 0:34:50Well, your skill is as an auctioneer,

0:34:50 > 0:34:52- your reputation goes before you... - Thank you very much.

0:34:52 > 0:34:54..and I reckon if you can sell anything,

0:34:54 > 0:34:55it's this 19th century jug.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57I will have gusto, I will be on the rostrum

0:34:57 > 0:35:00- and I will do my level best. - If anyone can do it, Peter can.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03Let's go and see him in action. Good luck, teams.

0:35:03 > 0:35:0545 it is, in the room...

0:35:10 > 0:35:13Trey.

0:35:13 > 0:35:15- Hello.- Finally you've joined us. Joe, you've convinced him to come.

0:35:15 > 0:35:18- Yeah, just about.- I was up all night last night - doing work.

0:35:18 > 0:35:21I woke up late and then had to miss my train. Nightmare.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23Thousands wouldn't believe you, Trey, thousands wouldn't.

0:35:23 > 0:35:26- I know.- I don't think Thomas believes you, but we do.

0:35:26 > 0:35:28He was out with me!

0:35:28 > 0:35:30Well, here we are in the auction. Tell me,

0:35:30 > 0:35:32have you ever been to one of these before?

0:35:32 > 0:35:34- I've never been to an auction before.- Joe?- No.

0:35:34 > 0:35:36- Are you excited, boys? - I'm very excited.- Thomas?

0:35:36 > 0:35:37I think we're going to win.

0:35:37 > 0:35:40Do you know, I'm ecstatic. I can't control myself.

0:35:40 > 0:35:42- I think we're going to do well.- Yes.

0:35:42 > 0:35:44Oh, my goodness, well, here we go.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47The first lot is coming up and I am ready to go.

0:35:47 > 0:35:49Here's your barman.

0:35:49 > 0:35:52We've got the cast metal novelty corkscrew bottle opener now

0:35:52 > 0:35:57from the 1950s, in the form of a comical barman. There he is.

0:35:57 > 0:36:00- 15, straight in. That's all right.- 15.

0:36:00 > 0:36:02£15 for the novelty corkscrew...

0:36:02 > 0:36:04Is there 18 anywhere...

0:36:04 > 0:36:08Sold then to the commissioned bidder at £15 only...

0:36:08 > 0:36:09£15 it is...

0:36:09 > 0:36:11Oh! £15 paid.

0:36:11 > 0:36:13That is a loss of 20.

0:36:13 > 0:36:15Don't worry, don't worry.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17Here comes lot number two, our golf tee -

0:36:17 > 0:36:19- for the man who has everything.- OK.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22- I've got commission bidding at 30. - Oh, straight in.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25- Do we have 35?- Yes, surely.

0:36:25 > 0:36:26- For 35, it's online...- Online.

0:36:26 > 0:36:28- 40...- Going for 40.

0:36:28 > 0:36:29Guys, can you see it on the screen?

0:36:29 > 0:36:31- 45.- Wait a minute.

0:36:31 > 0:36:35Wait a minute, we're breaking even, we're breaking even.

0:36:35 > 0:36:36Let's keep going.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38Come on, 55.
