0:00:04 > 0:00:08Hello, or should I say s'mae? Today, the show comes to you from
0:00:08 > 0:00:11the Welsh capital, Cardiff, and I'm at the Principality Stadium,
0:00:11 > 0:00:14home of the national sport, rugby. And, believe it or not,
0:00:14 > 0:00:18there's quite a few similarities with Bargain Hunt.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21Sometimes, shopping can turn into a bit of a scrum.
0:00:23 > 0:00:24It gets tough for our teams,
0:00:24 > 0:00:27and sometimes, they need a bit of a lift.
0:00:27 > 0:00:28Whee! SHE GIGGLES
0:00:28 > 0:00:32And some teams like to tackle the shopping head on.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34So, there you have it. Let's get the game underway.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37It's time to kick things off. Let's go Bargain Hunting.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08Today, our teams are shopping at Jacob's Market here in Cardiff.
0:01:08 > 0:01:11The usual rules apply - they have £300 to bag
0:01:11 > 0:01:14themselves three bargains in only 60 minutes.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18I couldn't have put it better myself. Right, I'm off to find
0:01:18 > 0:01:21our teams, while you have a little look at what's coming up.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25The Reds are looking for other ways to make some money.
0:01:29 > 0:01:33Actually, you might make a few quid from busking, possibly.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36And the Blues follow their psychic intuition.
0:01:36 > 0:01:39- What can you feel?- Something's gravitating myself to it.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41- Really? Are you? - I'm just not sure what.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44Well, we'd better follow you, then, hadn't we?
0:01:44 > 0:01:47But, there's no predicting who'll win today's show.
0:01:47 > 0:01:48Oh, he's claimed it.
0:01:49 > 0:01:50- Is that good?- No.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55But that's all for later. Today, on Bargain Hunt, we have two
0:01:55 > 0:01:58teams of very best friends. For the Reds, we have John and Lee,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01and for the Blues, we have Samuel and Theo. Hello, teams.
0:02:01 > 0:02:03- ALL:- Hello!
0:02:03 > 0:02:06My goodness. Right, so, Red Team. John, tell me how you two met.
0:02:06 > 0:02:10We met when we were about seven years old, at a family wedding...
0:02:10 > 0:02:14- Mm-hm.- ..and sort of bonded over a mutual interest in model trains.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17- And you've been friends ever since? - Yes, very best friends. We do
0:02:17 > 0:02:21everything together these days. We go out, a lot of climbing,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23and then reward ourselves with a pint afterwards.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26But I believe you're also quite musical, is that right?
0:02:26 > 0:02:28Yeah, I've been in several bands. I play a wide array of
0:02:28 > 0:02:31instruments, pretty much any instrument, jack of all trades.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33- Any instrument?- Yeah. - That sounds very talented.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35So you can just pick up anything?
0:02:35 > 0:02:37- Yeah, I can make a noise out of anything.- Oh, really?
0:02:37 > 0:02:40SHE CHUCKLES And you are a teacher as well?
0:02:40 > 0:02:43In my spare time, yes. I'll do workshops, teaching younger
0:02:43 > 0:02:46children how to play instruments, just to get them into music
0:02:46 > 0:02:51initially, so there's a lot of banging, a lot of horrible noises,
0:02:51 > 0:02:54- but it's good to see them. - They've got to start somewhere.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56Yeah. They get started, and you see them enjoying it,
0:02:56 > 0:02:57- and it's all worth it.- So, Lee,
0:02:57 > 0:03:00you're also interested in the great outdoors.
0:03:00 > 0:03:04I am, yes. I get outdoors whenever possible. I've got two
0:03:04 > 0:03:08Jack Russells, which do keep me outdoor, come rain or shine.
0:03:08 > 0:03:13- You're also a boxer?- Yeah, I've done a couple of charity events, a couple
0:03:13 > 0:03:16- just for fun, but...- For fun? - Yeah, just for a bit of fun.- Really?
0:03:16 > 0:03:19It's a bit of a stress release, definite release, after work.
0:03:19 > 0:03:23- Exactly. So, what do you do for work?- I'm a neighbourhood assistant
0:03:23 > 0:03:26for a local housing association, with disabled people and the
0:03:26 > 0:03:29elderly, enabling and empowering them to have a

0:03:32 > 0:03:33- rewarding.- It is very rewarding.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35Well, it's going to be an interesting one today.
0:03:35 > 0:03:37What's your plan? Who's in charge?
0:03:37 > 0:03:39- It's going to be a team effort. - Team effort.- I think
0:03:39 > 0:03:43we're going to use a logical, progressive something.
0:03:43 > 0:03:46- Gut instinct.- Gut instinct, yeah, let's go with gut instinct.
0:03:46 > 0:03:49Logical and progressive, wow. Very, very best of luck.
0:03:49 > 0:03:50I'm sure you'll be wonderful.
0:03:50 > 0:03:52So now my Blues, Samuel and Theo.
0:03:52 > 0:03:56Tell me, Samuel, how you and Theo met.
0:03:56 > 0:03:59- Well, Theo used to be my boss, actually.- Oh.- We used to work
0:03:59 > 0:04:02- at a dental practice together. - Right. Show us your teeth.
0:04:02 > 0:04:06Very pearly. Like it. OK, yeah. Were you a dentist? What were you doing?
0:04:06 > 0:04:08I was in marketing, actually.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11Dentists don't have the best branding, really.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14We want to make the dentist's a more approachable place to be.
0:04:14 > 0:04:20- And Theo employed you?- Yeah, and what great friends we've become now.
0:04:20 > 0:04:22Exactly. Are you still working together?
0:04:22 > 0:04:24Not any more. Theo's no longer with the company.
0:04:24 > 0:04:26He's moved on to other ventures.
0:04:26 > 0:04:30Yeah, I've recently set up a new venture, business venture,
0:04:30 > 0:04:33- specialising in marketing. - Oh, fantastic.- So, hopefully
0:04:33 > 0:04:36- we'll still be working together, maybe, in the future.- In the future.
0:04:36 > 0:04:39So, tell me, Samuel, when you're not doing your marketing,
0:04:39 > 0:04:41what do you like doing?
0:04:41 > 0:04:45- I'm a huge karaoke fan.- Oh, really? - Anyone who knows me knows me
0:04:45 > 0:04:49- as the one who does karaoke. - Really?- My evenings, my weekends.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52- I have a karaoke machine at home. - Oh, really?- Mm-hm. I just love it.
0:04:52 > 0:04:55So, obviously Samuel likes the limelight, Theo. You do as
0:04:55 > 0:04:59- well, I believe.- Yeah, I've had my moments. I've entered the
0:04:59 > 0:05:01Mr Wales competition - I got placed fourth.
0:05:01 > 0:05:05But you're also Mr Swimsuit. Is that right? What did you win?
0:05:05 > 0:05:08Mr Swimsuit and Mr Best Hair, I've got here.

0:05:47 > 0:05:52Now, your experts await. Now, off you go. Enjoy, teams.
0:05:52 > 0:05:55Could be a bit of a hair-raising experience today.
0:05:55 > 0:05:57Today's teams will, of course,
0:05:57 > 0:06:00need a couple of experts to help them out.

0:06:21 > 0:06:22anything like that, really.
0:06:22 > 0:06:25I'm looking for something that could go in someone's
0:06:25 > 0:06:27living room, that they'll see at the auction and go,
0:06:27 > 0:06:29"I want that in my living room, and I'll pay whatever for it."
0:06:29 > 0:06:31Anything with a bit of character,
0:06:31 > 0:06:33something that I think on the day will make a bit of money.
0:06:33 > 0:06:35PHONE RINGS

0:07:09 > 0:07:11- It's a beautiful kit.- Is it?
0:07:11 > 0:07:12You did tell us earlier, John,
0:07:12 > 0:07:14that you could make a noise from anything.
0:07:14 > 0:07:16It's only £400.
0:07:16 > 0:07:19Bargain(!) Although it is £100 over your entire budget.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23- 400.- We are not worried about the price, are we?
0:07:23 > 0:07:28For just one afternoon only, live from Cardiff,
0:07:28 > 0:07:32I give you the man from Swansea, the man, the drums himself,

0:07:43 > 0:07:45We are off to a flying start there.
0:07:45 > 0:07:47If it helps, I cleared the dust from it.
0:07:47 > 0:07:49You did indeed.
0:07:49 > 0:07:52Actually, we might make a few quid from busking, possibly.
0:07:52 > 0:07:55You never... In fact, we could make more from doing that
0:07:55 > 0:07:57than buying and selling antiques.
0:07:57 > 0:07:59Bravo, John.
0:07:59 > 0:08:02Although I think it's time to knock that idea on the head
0:08:02 > 0:08:04and get on with the shopping.
0:08:04 > 0:08:06The Blues look like they are in the swing of things.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17- I can't say I'm any good either, but...- You like the look of this?
0:08:17 > 0:08:20I really like it. I think it's quite a decorative piece as well.
0:08:20 > 0:08:24- Even if you don't play golf. - What's the price? £80.
0:08:24 > 0:08:28That's quite a hefty price, but I can imagine golf enthusiast might
0:08:28 > 0:08:30quite possibly pay that, I think.
0:08:30 > 0:08:34Grab the golf clubs and we'll go and find the owner of these fine things.
0:08:34 > 0:08:36Come along.
0:08:36 > 0:08:40- Hello.- Hi.- Are you the owner of these golf clubs?
0:08:40 > 0:08:44I am, yes. I'll take £15 off it for you.
0:08:44 > 0:08:46Well, there is a bit of damage on it.
0:08:46 > 0:08:49I mean, that's going to have to be repaired by the...
0:08:49 > 0:08:52- Purchaser...- By the purchaser.
0:08:52 > 0:08:56I'll do another five. So that would make it 60.
0:08:56 > 0:08:58- That's a yes from me, what about you?- Yes from me.
0:08:58 > 0:09:01- Yes from you.- Thank you very much. - Right.- Lovely, thank you.

0:09:03 > 0:09:08First purchase done within the first ten minutes.
0:09:08 > 0:09:11- Excellent. - I feel a golden gavel coming on.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13Right, yes. We are not playing around now, put them down
0:09:13 > 0:09:15and we'll move on. Thank you very much.
0:09:16 > 0:09:19Very good, chaps. You are off to a flying start.
0:09:19 > 0:09:20Hats off to you.
0:09:20 > 0:09:24- I do like the helmet. - Is it heavy?- Your size?
0:09:24 > 0:09:28- Just about, I think. Hold on. - Aw, look at that.- Very fetching.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31- What do you think?- Suits you.- Yeah.
0:09:31 > 0:09:32Should we put that back? OK.
0:09:32 > 0:09:35- We'll keep that on the list. - We'll put that on the back burner.
0:09:35 > 0:09:38It's the first thing we had a look at after the drum kit.
0:09:38 > 0:09:41I was actually just going to pick up a little bit of
0:09:41 > 0:09:48Welsh mining memorabilia that I saw beside the helmet.
0:09:48 > 0:09:51This commemorates the miners' strike, 1984 to 1985.
0:09:51 > 0:09:54It's a miner's lamp. In collectors' terms,
0:09:54 > 0:09:57this would be a better bet for you than your helmet.
0:09:57 > 0:10:00We know where they are. We've only just started.
0:10:00 > 0:10:02We'll put them back and keep searching, shall we?
0:10:02 > 0:10:04- Let's look some more.- Good.
0:10:04 > 0:10:06Hmm. Very decisive, team.
0:10:08 > 0:10:11Tea services, they are coming back into fashion now.
0:10:11 > 0:10:13People are starting to use them again.
0:10:13 > 0:10:16I don't know about you. You are not convinced. No?
0:10:16 > 0:10:18- I love tea.- Do you?- Mm.
0:10:18 > 0:10:21Do you have it out of a mug or a little delicate tea set?
0:10:21 > 0:10:24- Or a bit of both?- I can't say I have a delicate little tea set.
0:10:24 > 0:10:27- No, you see... Hmm. - I can see the appeal.- Definitely.
0:10:27 > 0:10:31- Whatever the style of it... - Well, there is 11 of them.
0:10:31 > 0:10:34That would have originally been a 12-place setting.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37But, I mean, I just think it's so cheap. £40.
0:10:37 > 0:10:39It's not a lot, is it?
0:10:39 > 0:10:42- No, it's not. Shall we bank it and...?- Exactly, yes.
0:10:43 > 0:10:46OK, well, something for the back burner then, Blues.
0:10:46 > 0:10:48But keep in mind that you are almost
0:10:48 > 0:10:50a quarter of the way through your shop.
0:10:50 > 0:10:52Oops. Look out. It's another find for John.
0:10:52 > 0:10:57There is a trumpet. And I think it's a bugle, is it, without the keys?
0:10:57 > 0:11:01- Yeah.- It's made of metal.- It is.
0:11:01 > 0:11:03- Scottish.- Scottish?
0:11:03 > 0:11:06I think that's definitely got a bit of character to it.
0:11:06 > 0:11:09I do have my doubts about this piece.
0:11:09 > 0:11:12If we could just have a look at the quality on this particular
0:11:12 > 0:11:15- badge here... - It's not very good, is it?
0:11:15 > 0:11:17Correct. It's not very good.
0:11:17 > 0:11:19I've got a feeling it's a fake.
0:11:19 > 0:11:22- Right, OK.- But before we put it back, could we just see,
0:11:22 > 0:11:25- does it work?- Can we get a tune out of it?- Does it work?
0:11:25 > 0:11:27Well, you did say you could play anything, John.
0:11:27 > 0:11:30TUNELESS NOTE
0:11:30 > 0:11:32Definitely a fake.
0:11:32 > 0:11:36Right. Well, how about the real trumpet next to it?
0:11:36 > 0:11:38You'll get a sound out of that, won't you?
0:11:38 > 0:11:40This looks old, doesn't it?
0:11:40 > 0:11:42It's only 125.
0:11:42 > 0:11:45I think we can bring that down, certainly.
0:11:45 > 0:11:46It's been up there a while.
0:11:46 > 0:11:49- This is a trumpet of the vintage, isn't it?- Yes.
0:11:49 > 0:11:53I'd imagine this dates from the middle part of the last century.
0:11:53 > 0:11:56- That's not a good...- It's just needs to be greased, it's fine.
0:11:56 > 0:11:59- It just needs to be greased? - Yeah.- Shall we try it for sound?
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Is that something that we could also do?
0:12:02 > 0:12:06HE PLAYS NOTES
0:12:08 > 0:12:09Yeah, nice finish.
0:12:09 > 0:12:13Let's get down to business. It's got a price tag which, I must confess,
0:12:13 > 0:12:14it's slightly eye-watering to me.
0:12:14 > 0:12:19- If we could get it for £60, do you think it's worth me asking?- 100%.
0:12:19 > 0:12:22- Certainly, yeah.- Oh, hello.- Hello.
0:12:22 > 0:12:26- You are the owner of the trumpet, I'm assuming?- I am indeed.
0:12:26 > 0:12:31- We were wondering if you would consider an offer of £60 for it?- No.
0:12:31 > 0:12:35- You wouldn't consider an offer of £60?- I might take 65.- Uh-huh.
0:12:35 > 0:12:37- Right.- 63.
0:12:37 > 0:12:40- Oh.- Can you take your cap off?
0:12:40 > 0:12:43Exactly, where are your manners, Lee?
0:12:43 > 0:12:48I can. For £63, I'll take my cap off.
0:12:48 > 0:12:50Thank you. 63.
0:12:50 > 0:12:5263. Excellent.
0:12:52 > 0:12:54Thank you very much.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00Hats off, team. Well done. That's numero uno for you...

0:13:07 > 0:13:09- Ford.- 1600 Super Ford.
0:13:09 > 0:13:11- Bad news.- 200.
0:13:11 > 0:13:14- Again, something we can bank and come back to.- Come on then.
0:13:14 > 0:13:19Whilst the Blues motor on, the Reds are still stuck at the same stall.
0:13:19 > 0:13:24I was just having a look at your train. Hard to date it.
0:13:24 > 0:13:28Could date from the middle of the 20th, so it could be 1920s or 1930s.
0:13:28 > 0:13:30Do you know anything about it?
0:13:30 > 0:13:34I think it's a bit older than probably '30s. It's handmade.
0:13:34 > 0:13:36- Yeah.- Are you interested in that train?
0:13:36 > 0:13:39Cos I'd really like to get rid of it.
0:13:39 > 0:13:40Sounds promising, chaps.
0:13:40 > 0:13:43Well, I am interested in that train, personally.
0:13:43 > 0:13:46- But I don't want to influence the boys.- Could I take a look at it?
0:13:46 > 0:13:49- Yes.- Yeah.- JOHN:- So how much do you think you'd take for it?
0:13:49 > 0:13:51The asking price is £40.
0:13:51 > 0:13:53- STALLHOLDER:- Probably ten.
0:13:53 > 0:13:56What about if I take the hat off again?
0:13:56 > 0:13:58Five. Oh, we're down five.
0:13:58 > 0:14:01- I'd do five with the hat off. - Take the hat off.
0:14:01 > 0:14:02- JOHN:- Allow me.
0:14:02 > 0:14:04Here it is. The hat is off again.
0:14:04 > 0:14:08- For- £5. Well, I think really, at £5, you can't go wrong.
0:14:08 > 0:14:11- It's a very kind and generous gesture.- Give it a clean.
0:14:11 > 0:14:14I'll give it a wash for £5, no problem.
0:14:14 > 0:14:16THEY LAUGH
0:14:16 > 0:14:19Brilliant. Hat's back on. A fiver. Sold.
0:14:19 > 0:14:20Thank you very much indeed.
0:14:20 > 0:14:24We're 2-0 up and just one more to go. Come on then.
0:14:24 > 0:14:27So, they've capped it off. Another deal done.
0:14:27 > 0:14:30You boys are getting the hang of this.
0:14:30 > 0:14:31Up the Reds!
0:14:33 > 0:14:36Well, I think you've got yourself a bit of a fan there, chaps.
0:14:36 > 0:14:38Right, back to the Blues. Now, what's the plan?
0:14:38 > 0:14:40So what do you think, guys?
0:14:40 > 0:14:44You could not get more Welsh than this Welsh national costume.
0:14:44 > 0:14:45True to our tactics, I think...
0:14:45 > 0:14:48We have to get something Welsh, don't we? We've said it now.
0:14:48 > 0:14:50You have said it, yes.
0:14:50 > 0:14:53- You need to be men of your word. - We do.- How much is it?
0:14:53 > 0:14:56- I think it's only £14. - Oh, my goodness. £14.
0:14:56 > 0:15:00Well, you tell me. You two are from Wales, is that a good price?
0:15:00 > 0:15:01It sounds cheap to me.
0:15:01 > 0:15:04- It sounds like good value. - Shall I go and find a price then?
0:15:04 > 0:15:07- That would be great. That would be great.- OK, I'll be one second.
0:15:07 > 0:15:08Hang on.
0:15:08 > 0:15:13I wonder if Caroline can get a heavenly price for our Blues.
0:15:13 > 0:15:14What do you think?
0:15:14 > 0:15:17- £10.- Yes, you're right.
0:15:17 > 0:15:19Crikey, you don't hang around, Caroline!
0:15:19 > 0:15:22- I think it's worth getting. - Shall we buy it?- We'll do it?
0:15:22 > 0:15:25- I think we should. What do you think?- Yeah, absolutely. £10.
0:15:25 > 0:15:28- It's a deal?- It's a deal. - Brilliant, excellent.
0:15:28 > 0:15:31- Two items bought at about half an hour into the shop.- Yep.
0:15:31 > 0:15:34- Excellent.- Come on, let's have it.- Come on.
0:15:34 > 0:15:36Come on, guys. Let's go.
0:15:36 > 0:15:39Well done, boys, that's two for you.
0:15:39 > 0:15:41So both teams are now looking for that final piece.
0:15:41 > 0:15:44Now, let's leave them shopping as it's time for
0:15:44 > 0:15:46me to brush up on a piece of family history.
0:15:53 > 0:15:56Sometimes in my job, I do feel a little bit like a detective,
0:15:56 > 0:15:59piecing together a historical jigsaw puzzle.
0:15:59 > 0:16:02And this hair brush here is a great illustration of that.
0:16:02 > 0:16:04On the face of it, it is a fairly innocuous piece.
0:16:04 > 0:16:07It's obviously a hair brush from a larger dressing table set.
0:16:07 > 0:16:09And it would have graced the table of
0:16:09 > 0:16:12a very fashionable lady at the turn of the 20th century.
0:16:12 > 0:16:16We know it's Chinese at first glance because, if you look
0:16:16 > 0:16:20at the dragon here, if you look at his toes, he's got four toes.
0:16:20 > 0:16:23As a general rule of thumb, Japanese dragons are usually three-clawed.
0:16:23 > 0:16:24We've got four.
0:16:24 > 0:16:26The marks on the side, just here,
0:16:26 > 0:16:29confirm that it is indeed a piece of Chinese silver.
0:16:29 > 0:16:33Probably made in Hong Kong in around 1900, just the turn of the century.
0:16:33 > 0:16:35And made for the Western market.
0:16:35 > 0:16:39These pieces were the height of fashion at the time.
0:16:39 > 0:16:42So, all in all, an interesting piece. Full of symbolism.
0:16:42 > 0:16:45But this is the point where we cross the line into evaluating this
0:16:45 > 0:16:48as an antique, and the history and story behind it.
0:16:48 > 0:16:51You see, this piece is engraved in the middle here. Sybil.
0:16:51 > 0:16:53Now, Sybil was my great-grandmother,
0:16:53 > 0:16:57and I've only recently discovered Sybil's story.
0:16:57 > 0:17:01Sybil was born in 1889 and she lived in Kensington, in London.
0:17:01 > 0:17:03In 1908, at the age of only 19,
0:17:03 > 0:17:06she met and married my great-grandfather.
0:17:06 > 0:17:09And I believe that it was probably about this time that she was
0:17:09 > 0:17:10given this brush.
0:17:10 > 0:17:12Maybe as a birthday or a wedding present, possibly.
0:17:12 > 0:17:15Now, my great-grandfather was a ship's chandlery,
0:17:15 > 0:17:18which involved the buying and selling of nautical items.
0:17:18 > 0:17:22The year after their marriage, the young couple travelled out to
0:17:22 > 0:17:25Ceylon, or Sri Lanka as it is now known, for his work.
0:17:25 > 0:17:28It was as the young couple were about to embark on their voyage that
0:17:28 > 0:17:30Sybil discovered that she was with child.
0:17:30 > 0:17:35They arrived in Colombo and my grandfather was born in May 1912.
0:17:35 > 0:17:38Sadly, and perhaps all too predictably,
0:17:38 > 0:17:41Sybil developed septicaemia following the birth of the baby,
0:17:41 > 0:17:43and she died in Colombo three weeks later.
0:17:43 > 0:17:44She was only 22.
0:17:44 > 0:17:48It came as a lovely surprise to me when we found this hair brush
0:17:48 > 0:17:51amongst my grandfather's possessions after he passed away.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53The fact that for all of his life,
0:17:53 > 0:17:56he'd kept this hair brush which belonged to the mother that he
0:17:56 > 0:18:00never knew shows that he cherished this very personal item of hers.
0:18:00 > 0:18:04The auctioneer in me is constantly saying engraving devalues the piece.
0:18:04 > 0:18:05But in this instance,
0:18:05 > 0:18:08I'm so glad that Sybil had her name engraved here,
0:18:08 > 0:18:11otherwise we'd never have known who it belonged to.
0:18:11 > 0:18:14It may only be a silver-backed hair brush for everyone else.
0:18:14 > 0:18:18In the current market, realistically worth maybe £60 to £100.
0:18:18 > 0:18:19Not a huge amount.
0:18:19 > 0:18:22But for me, it's the only piece that I have of my great-grandmother,
0:18:22 > 0:18:24and it's absolutely priceless.
0:18:32 > 0:18:35Back to the shop, and 20 minutes left.
0:18:35 > 0:18:38Time for a quick catch up with our experts.
0:18:38 > 0:18:39How are the boys getting on, Caroline?
0:18:39 > 0:18:43Well, they've bought two items in less than half an hour.
0:18:43 > 0:18:45Which is really good.
0:18:45 > 0:18:49But they're not saying a lot, but I know they are thinking a lot.
0:18:49 > 0:18:52And I know for a fact that Theo wants to win.
0:18:52 > 0:18:54Fighting talk. Confident, Richard?
0:18:54 > 0:18:57I love it when they go onto one stand and buy two items
0:18:57 > 0:18:59just like that.
0:18:59 > 0:19:02The train on the floor, that piece will make more
0:19:02 > 0:19:05percentage profit than anything else in the auction.
0:19:05 > 0:19:09That's a bold claim, Richard. Only time will tell.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11Is anything leaping out at you?
0:19:11 > 0:19:14- Nothing leaping.- No? - I feel something, though.- Can you?
0:19:14 > 0:19:18- What can you feel?- Something is gravitating myself to it.- Really?
0:19:18 > 0:19:21- I'm just not sure what.- You are a bit psychic, then, are you?
0:19:21 > 0:19:25- It has been known.- Has it?- Yeah, I knew today we were going to win.
0:19:25 > 0:19:27Right. We'd better follow you, then, hadn't we?
0:19:27 > 0:19:30Well, Theo, you might predict a win,
0:19:30 > 0:19:33but you still have one more item to find.
0:19:33 > 0:19:36Is it still leading you the right way?
0:19:36 > 0:19:38Well, there is only one way to go.
0:19:38 > 0:19:40THEY LAUGH
0:19:40 > 0:19:44Hmm. Not sure about those psychic abilities of yours, Theo.
0:19:44 > 0:19:48Now, Reds, remember you were after something scientific and mechanical?
0:19:48 > 0:19:50An early typewriter!
0:19:50 > 0:19:54- I like the look of it.- Yeah. That must date from the 1920s or '30s,
0:19:54 > 0:19:58doesn't it? Most unusual, I would have thought.
0:19:58 > 0:20:01Now, it's a very specialised area.
0:20:01 > 0:20:04We've got to remember that, that this is a gamble.
0:20:04 > 0:20:06Because whatever the asking price is,
0:20:06 > 0:20:10we are going to be searching hard for two bidders for it.
0:20:10 > 0:20:13- But it's an interesting object. - What do you think, John?
0:20:13 > 0:20:16- I really like it. I really do. - Is it worth the risk, though?
0:20:16 > 0:20:18I really like it.
0:20:18 > 0:20:21I've never seen a typewriter coming in from the sides like that.
0:20:21 > 0:20:25- It still has its original ribbon as well.- Yeah.- Its ink ribbon.
0:20:25 > 0:20:28- Can we see how much...? - Sure, see how much it is.- Yeah?
0:20:28 > 0:20:32Ah, hello there. I was wondering if...
0:20:32 > 0:20:35you could tell us what your friendliest price is on the
0:20:35 > 0:20:36Oliver typewriter.
0:20:36 > 0:20:39The very friendliest would be 95.
0:20:39 > 0:20:43- Ooh.- £95. This is the high-risk item.
0:20:43 > 0:20:46But it also could give us the high reward.
0:20:46 > 0:20:48Ooof, that would be a gamble, boys!
0:20:48 > 0:20:51Does that not tempt you? Just the way he said that.
0:20:51 > 0:20:53- Like, this is the high-risk... - RICHARD LAUGHS
0:20:53 > 0:20:55There is safe stuff, but look at this.
0:20:55 > 0:20:59- Let's quickly walk around. We've got ten minutes to go.- Ten minutes.
0:20:59 > 0:21:02Ten minutes is up and we don't find anything, we are going for that.
0:21:02 > 0:21:04- I'm serious.- Yeah, yes. 100%.
0:21:04 > 0:21:08Not sure Lee is convinced. I wonder if the feeling is right for this.
0:21:08 > 0:21:11Ooh.
0:21:11 > 0:21:13Very often these are known as grandmother clocks.
0:21:13 > 0:21:15Ooh.
0:21:15 > 0:21:17"Ooh." What does that mean?
0:21:17 > 0:21:20- Does that mean you like? - It's got quite a charm to it.
0:21:20 > 0:21:23- Smaller. I quite like it. - 1920s, I would say.
0:21:23 > 0:21:29I would think between the Wars. Yes. And the best on it is 120.
0:21:29 > 0:21:32We are up against time, but before I think we commit,
0:21:32 > 0:21:35we revisit the tea set.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38Tea set. Across here, I think.
0:21:40 > 0:21:43So, back to that tea set you saw earlier, Blues.
0:21:43 > 0:21:46Meanwhile, have the Reds made their final decision?
0:21:46 > 0:21:50- The risk is the typewriter. - I'd like to win.
0:21:50 > 0:21:54If you'd like to win, you probably want to play a safer game, then.
0:21:54 > 0:21:59OK. I'd honestly consider the miner's lamp. For 20 quid,
0:21:59 > 0:22:01I think that holds a lot of sentimental value.
0:22:01 > 0:22:04I trust your judgment more than anything in the world.
0:22:04 > 0:22:07- Thank you, John.- Aw.- So...- How nice.
0:22:07 > 0:22:08Aw, how sweet!
0:22:08 > 0:22:11No, I think you're right. I think we go for the miner's lamp.
0:22:11 > 0:22:14How much can we lose on £20?
0:22:14 > 0:22:16As long as you think it will bring it in,
0:22:16 > 0:22:19- I'm more than happy to go with it. - I think so.- Do you want to do it?
0:22:19 > 0:22:21- I think so.- Yeah, yeah.- Great, let's go and buy the miner's lamp.
0:22:21 > 0:22:25Decision made then, Reds. Just the deal to be sealed.
0:22:26 > 0:22:28Here they are.
0:22:28 > 0:22:33Now, it jumps out at me because it's a nice Deco shape to it.
0:22:33 > 0:22:35- There is no wear.- Mm.
0:22:35 > 0:22:39- Or not much wear at all on the gilding round it.- Mm-hm.
0:22:39 > 0:22:42But, and there is always a but, it's not a full set, by any means.
0:22:42 > 0:22:45So should we see what the very best is on that?
0:22:45 > 0:22:50- Yeah.- I think the price needs to reflect the incompleteness of it.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53- Let me have a look. Hello. - Hi.- Hello.
0:22:53 > 0:22:58May I just ask your very, very best price on this, please?
0:22:58 > 0:23:02- It has to be 35.- 35. And the very, very best on the clock?
0:23:02 > 0:23:05The very death on the clock would be 100.
0:23:05 > 0:23:07There is an expression - when you sell a clock,
0:23:07 > 0:23:08you are married to the thing.
0:23:08 > 0:23:11- I don't think I'm ready to marry yet.- Are you not? No?
0:23:11 > 0:23:14- I would quite agree, Samuel. - OK. My mind is made up.
0:23:14 > 0:23:16Go for the tea set.
0:23:16 > 0:23:20- Is it? On the tea set at 35? - I think so.- Right, that's a deal.
0:23:20 > 0:23:25- It's done.- Whoa! Brilliant! Three items in the bag.- We've done it.
0:23:25 > 0:23:30- Well done, guys. Thank you.- Thank you very much.- Thank you very much.
0:23:30 > 0:23:33Well done, Blues. That's you all done.
0:23:33 > 0:23:34Which just leaves our Reds
0:23:34 > 0:23:36with three minutes remaining on the clock.
0:23:36 > 0:23:39Good. Back to where we started.
0:23:39 > 0:23:44The miner's lamp is still here, I'm pleased to say.
0:23:44 > 0:23:47- No negotiation in the price. - Nope, OK.- So it's ours.
0:23:47 > 0:23:49- More than happy with that for £20. - You sure now?
0:23:49 > 0:23:52- We are done?- I'd say so. - Third item in the bag.- All done.
0:23:52 > 0:23:56That's it, teams. Your 60 minutes are up.
0:23:56 > 0:23:58- Let's go then.- Let's go. All right.
0:23:58 > 0:24:01Let's check out what the Red team bought.
0:24:01 > 0:24:04Hopefully, the trumpet won't blow it for them at the auction.
0:24:04 > 0:24:06It set them back £63.
0:24:06 > 0:24:12They were chuffed with the train after paying only £5.
0:24:12 > 0:24:16And finally, it was the miner's lamp. They settled at £20.
0:24:16 > 0:24:19Speedy Gonzales all-round, wasn't it?
0:24:19 > 0:24:22- Swift shopping, I like it. - No messing around.
0:24:22 > 0:24:25- No stopping you. And you with the magic hat.- I know. I know.
0:24:25 > 0:24:28- I think we need some magic hats now. - Very, very useful, yeah.
0:24:28 > 0:24:31So what was your favourite item that you bought today?
0:24:31 > 0:24:33I think, for me, it was the trumpet. Definitely.
0:24:33 > 0:24:36Had to be. And what about you, what was your favourite item?
0:24:36 > 0:24:38Definitely the train, because we had it for a fiver,
0:24:38 > 0:24:41and apparently, it's going to make a lot at auction.
0:24:41 > 0:24:42- I hope so.- Brilliant.
0:24:42 > 0:24:45And I think it's so appropriate for you guys as well,
0:24:45 > 0:24:46having bonded over trains.
0:24:46 > 0:24:49- Yeah.- I didn't even think of that. That's really good.
0:24:49 > 0:24:52THEY LAUGH
0:24:52 > 0:24:53Brilliant. Well done.
0:24:53 > 0:24:56Do you think the train is going to make you the most profit?
0:24:56 > 0:24:58Hoping so. I mean, at a fiver, what have we got to lose, really?
0:24:58 > 0:25:01- Can't go hugely wrong, can you, for a fiver?- No. No.
0:25:01 > 0:25:03- So how much did you spend, guys?- £88.- £88.
0:25:03 > 0:25:06OK, can I have £212 of leftover lolly then, please?
0:25:06 > 0:25:10There we go. I trust you. I'm sure it's all there.
0:25:10 > 0:25:12- There we go.- Thank you, Christina.
0:25:12 > 0:25:14£212. What are you going to spend it on?
0:25:14 > 0:25:16Well, these boys came out with a strategy.
0:25:16 > 0:25:19They wanted something scientific or mechanical,
0:25:19 > 0:25:21and we didn't get anything.
0:25:21 > 0:25:24So I might have to go and just revisit a stall
0:25:24 > 0:25:26that I saw something that might just fit the bill.
0:25:26 > 0:25:29Oh, brilliant. OK. Well, while Richard goes and does some
0:25:29 > 0:25:32revisiting, we'll go and see what the Blue team bought.
0:25:32 > 0:25:36First up, the golf clubs set them back a wedge of £60.
0:25:37 > 0:25:41Next up was the child's Welsh costume. They paid only £10.
0:25:42 > 0:25:44And finally, it was the tea set.
0:25:44 > 0:25:47They eventually settled on £35.
0:25:47 > 0:25:49So, boys, did you have fun?
0:25:49 > 0:25:51- Very much so, yeah.- Very much. - Yeah? You enjoyed it?
0:25:51 > 0:25:54- You stuck to your plan as well. You got something Welsh.- Mm-hm.
0:25:54 > 0:25:55Something local. That was good.
0:25:55 > 0:25:58- Yeah, we are more than happy with our purchases.- More than happy.
0:25:58 > 0:26:01Do you think your three purchases are going to secure you this coveted
0:26:01 > 0:26:03golden gavel that you want so badly?
0:26:03 > 0:26:05- Hopefully. Fingers crossed. - Really?- Yeah.
0:26:05 > 0:26:08We've got a golden buy in there, I think. Hot tickets all the way.
0:26:08 > 0:26:10Ooh, the confidence, I like it.
0:26:10 > 0:26:13OK, so what was your favourite item, Samuel?
0:26:13 > 0:26:14Mine was the golf clubs.
0:26:14 > 0:26:17I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them.
0:26:17 > 0:26:20- Really?- Yeah.- OK, so it's love at first sight for you.
0:26:20 > 0:26:22What about you, Theo? What was your favourite purchase?
0:26:22 > 0:26:24- Great minds think alike.- Mm-hm.
0:26:24 > 0:26:27- The golf clubs, I think they are the winner.- Really? Unanimous agreement.
0:26:27 > 0:26:29OK, and do you think they will make you a profit?
0:26:29 > 0:26:31- Yeah, absolutely.- Ugh! My goodness!
0:26:31 > 0:26:36All around. OK. You two spent all of £105 on your three purchases.
0:26:36 > 0:26:39So I would like £195 of leftover lolly, please.
0:26:39 > 0:26:42- Here you are.- Fantastic. Hey, Caroline, look at that!
0:26:42 > 0:26:45- Wow.- £195.- Thank you very much.
0:26:45 > 0:26:46What are you going to do with it, my love?
0:26:46 > 0:26:50- I've seen just the thing for these two young men.- Oh, really?
0:26:50 > 0:26:52- Mm.- Something that fits the bill.
0:26:52 > 0:26:55Something that absolutely fits the bill. Yep.
0:26:55 > 0:26:58Well, while Caroline goes off and does her final shopping,
0:26:58 > 0:26:59We'll head off to the auction.
0:27:10 > 0:27:13We have hopped, skipped and jumped an hour down the road from Cardiff
0:27:13 > 0:27:15to be with Peter Francis Auctioneers and Valuers
0:27:15 > 0:27:18here in Carmarthen, with Charles Hampshire, auctioneer.
0:27:18 > 0:27:21- Charles, thank you so much for having us.- Happy to have you here.
0:27:21 > 0:27:23Brilliant. Good. I'm glad. Now, let's crack on with the Reds.
0:27:23 > 0:27:26Their first purchase was this trumpet over here.
0:27:26 > 0:27:27What do you think of that?
0:27:27 > 0:27:30I like it. You know, we sell a lot of musical instruments,
0:27:30 > 0:27:32and they tend to do quite well.
0:27:32 > 0:27:35Couple of things going against it would be lack of box
0:27:35 > 0:27:37and no name attached to it as such.
0:27:37 > 0:27:39OK, so a couple of things going against it.
0:27:39 > 0:27:42But what are your predictions with regards to auction estimate?
0:27:42 > 0:27:44We've gone for £20 to £30.
0:27:44 > 0:27:46They paid £63 for it.
0:27:46 > 0:27:48I can't see us getting there, even on a good day.
0:27:48 > 0:27:50OK, well, never mind. Onwards and upwards.
0:27:50 > 0:27:53Let's move on to this gorgeous train. I love this.
0:27:53 > 0:27:56- Great, isn't it? Yeah. It's good fun.- Fabulous.
0:27:56 > 0:27:58It's nice and original. It's ready to go.
0:27:58 > 0:28:02- And the toy market, we find, is buoyant here.- Mm-hm.
0:28:02 > 0:28:05It's probably been built by a grandpa or somebody in his
0:28:05 > 0:28:08- garden shed...- I think so. - ..for his grandchildren.
0:28:08 > 0:28:13- Lovingly made and painted.- And used. It's got that nice wear to it.
0:28:13 > 0:28:16- Absolutely.- Yeah. What have you estimated it at?
0:28:16 > 0:28:19- We've gone for £20 to £30. - And it'll go above that, won't it?
0:28:19 > 0:28:22I think so, yeah. I think we could get to 50.
0:28:22 > 0:28:24Yeah, I absolutely agree. I think it's gorgeous.
0:28:24 > 0:28:26- They paid only £5 for this. - Onto a winner.
0:28:26 > 0:28:29I think so too. I think they did an absolutely cracking job with that.
0:28:29 > 0:28:31What do we think about their third item here?
0:28:31 > 0:28:33- It's quite unusual, isn't it? - Unusual thing.
0:28:33 > 0:28:35I haven't seen one personally before.
0:28:35 > 0:28:38And it relates to a really important piece of social history -
0:28:38 > 0:28:41the miners' strike in '84, '85.
0:28:41 > 0:28:44- Hugely important.- Sought-after thing. Got a lot going for it.
0:28:44 > 0:28:47Great. Bearing that in mind, what's your estimate?
0:28:47 > 0:28:50I've probably been a bit hard after all that build up. £15 to £25.
0:28:50 > 0:28:53SHE LAUGHS Well, look, they paid £20 for it.
0:28:53 > 0:28:56- OK.- So we are sort of there or thereabouts.- I think they are. Yeah.
0:28:56 > 0:28:59OK, so it looks like it's going to be a bit of
0:28:59 > 0:29:01a rollercoaster ride for these guys over here.
0:29:01 > 0:29:04- So they may need their bonus buy. - OK.- So let's go have a look at it.
0:29:06 > 0:29:09Richard, you had £212. That's a goodly sum, isn't it?
0:29:09 > 0:29:11What did you find for our cool customers?
0:29:11 > 0:29:12Well, on the way round,
0:29:12 > 0:29:15we kept talking about looking for something scientific.
0:29:15 > 0:29:16I got you...
0:29:16 > 0:29:18- Oh, wow!- Oh, wow!
0:29:18 > 0:29:23I found a tankard, but a tankard which is decorated with the
0:29:23 > 0:29:28scene of the lunar landing 1969. So it commemorates Apollo 11.
0:29:28 > 0:29:32And this particular tankard has a very Welsh-sounding name.
0:29:32 > 0:29:34It's from Portmeirion Pottery.
0:29:34 > 0:29:37Welsh, you might think. Actually, it's from Stoke-on-Trent.
0:29:37 > 0:29:40It's a well-potted example. It's in good condition.
0:29:40 > 0:29:43And, if nothing else, you can fill it up with a pint...
0:29:43 > 0:29:44SHE LAUGHS
0:29:44 > 0:29:47- ..and use it for what it was made for.- Have a look at it, guys.
0:29:47 > 0:29:49So how much did you pay for it?
0:29:49 > 0:29:55It was priced at £25. I got a little discount. Down to 20.
0:29:55 > 0:30:00- There is a couple scratches on it. - Mm.- Whoa, not perfect, is it?
0:30:00 > 0:30:03- They are being picky, aren't they? - Scratches?- A couple of scratches.
0:30:03 > 0:30:05Well, if you'd been made in 1969,
0:30:05 > 0:30:08- you'd have a few scratches on you as well.- I suppose.
0:30:08 > 0:30:11That wouldn't worry me. There are no chips and no cracks as such.
0:30:11 > 0:30:15And there is a huge interest in space memorabilia, is there not?
0:30:15 > 0:30:18- There is.- How much do you think it would make at auction?
0:30:18 > 0:30:22I would hope that the auctioneer might open the bidding
0:30:22 > 0:30:25at £15 and get it up to nearer 30.
0:30:25 > 0:30:27- So a small profit? - A small profit.- OK.
0:30:27 > 0:30:29Your thoughts, guys. What do you think?
0:30:29 > 0:30:30It's something I'd buy personally,
0:30:30 > 0:30:32but is it going to make money on the day?
0:30:32 > 0:30:35Oof, well, you don't have to decide now. Have a think about it.
0:30:35 > 0:30:37But for the benefit of those at home,
0:30:37 > 0:30:41let's see what the auctioneer thinks of Richard's rather lunar bonus buy.
0:30:41 > 0:30:45Love this. Lot of design in that and a piece of Portmeirion.
0:30:45 > 0:30:48- One of my favourite things you've shown me.- Oh, really?- Yeah.
0:30:48 > 0:30:50Oh, happy days. Good. OK.
0:30:50 > 0:30:52Well, just that contrast between the gilt and the black is
0:30:52 > 0:30:55- really quite stunning, isn't it? - Absolutely, yeah. I agree.
0:30:55 > 0:30:58Are you going to predict it's going to leap into the stratosphere?
0:30:58 > 0:31:02- I don't think so. £15 to £25. - All right, that's OK.
0:31:02 > 0:31:05- Richard paid £20 for it. - That seems bang-on. Yeah.
0:31:05 > 0:31:08Yeah, OK. So let's move over to the Blue team.
0:31:08 > 0:31:11Now, the first of the Blue team's purchases
0:31:11 > 0:31:12was the golf clubs over there.
0:31:12 > 0:31:16Vintage golf clubs, unless they are very early and unusual,
0:31:16 > 0:31:19don't tend to do particularly well. But it's quite complete.
0:31:19 > 0:31:22You know, the woods have their covers etc.
0:31:22 > 0:31:24So, a nice vintage piece, yeah.
0:31:24 > 0:31:26What's your thoughts with regard to value, Charles?
0:31:26 > 0:31:27We've put them in at £30 to £40.
0:31:27 > 0:31:30OK, all right. They might be slightly disappointed with that.
0:31:30 > 0:31:31- They paid £60 for them.- OK.
0:31:31 > 0:31:36So, their second item, they went along the Welsh theme over there
0:31:36 > 0:31:38with their little child's costume.
0:31:38 > 0:31:40Very appropriate for here in Carmarthen.
0:31:40 > 0:31:44I think it will do well. Nice vintage child's costume.
0:31:44 > 0:31:46Fairly complete by the looks of it. I like it. Yeah.
0:31:46 > 0:31:48So what is your estimate?
0:31:48 > 0:31:50Estimate - £15 to £30.
0:31:50 > 0:31:52- OK, they'll be delighted. £10 only paid.- Perfect.
0:31:52 > 0:31:54They really were buying for the right market, weren't they?
0:31:54 > 0:31:56- I think so.- Now, their final item,
0:31:56 > 0:31:58- we've got a sample of it here, haven't we?- We have.
0:31:58 > 0:32:01But there is quite an extensive collection of these teawares.
0:32:01 > 0:32:03Yes. I can see why they picked it. Nice decoration.
0:32:03 > 0:32:06Few problems with how complete it is.
0:32:06 > 0:32:08We are missing the teapot, which is the feature piece,
0:32:08 > 0:32:11- and one or two other pieces along the way.- OK, all right.
0:32:11 > 0:32:14Yeah, I mean, the teapot really is the one that you want.
0:32:14 > 0:32:16But, having said that, it's a great shape.
0:32:16 > 0:32:20Yeah, agreed. A great shape, in good condition what we've got here.
0:32:20 > 0:32:24- So we've gone for 15 to £25. - OK. They paid £35...- OK.
0:32:24 > 0:32:27- ..for the whole lot. So we're not a million miles away.- No.
0:32:27 > 0:32:30If it was complete, I'd be saying that sort of value, sure.
0:32:30 > 0:32:32- That sort of figure?- Yeah. - All right. Super.
0:32:32 > 0:32:35Look, it's not looking too hot for the Blue team as yet.
0:32:35 > 0:32:37So they may need their bonus buy.
0:32:37 > 0:32:39Let's go and have a little look at it.
0:32:41 > 0:32:44Nearly £200 of leftover lolly you had. These boys were very generous.
0:32:44 > 0:32:46£195. What did you spend it on?
0:32:46 > 0:32:49- You're looking worried. - Feeling very excited.
0:32:49 > 0:32:51Well, I didn't spend it all.
0:32:51 > 0:32:56But I bought something that I just think fits the bill
0:32:56 > 0:32:57for you two dapper chappies.
0:32:57 > 0:32:59Oh.
0:32:59 > 0:33:01- Wow!- Wow!
0:33:01 > 0:33:02What is it?
0:33:02 > 0:33:05- Well...- Is it something you put on your head?
0:33:05 > 0:33:08It is something. I'm going to make you put it on your head.
0:33:08 > 0:33:11- That's why you bought it. - Watch the hair!
0:33:11 > 0:33:14- Watch the hair! - This is the most gorgeous
0:33:14 > 0:33:1719th-century gentlemen's smoking cap.
0:33:17 > 0:33:21When the tobacco smoke would offend ladies,
0:33:21 > 0:33:25gentlemen would wear something like this to protect the hair from
0:33:25 > 0:33:28the smell of tobacco whilst also keeping their heads warm.
0:33:28 > 0:33:31Sometimes known as a thinking cap as well.
0:33:31 > 0:33:34Beautifully embroidered. Silk velvet.
0:33:34 > 0:33:38- Quilted in silk inside.- Lovely.
0:33:38 > 0:33:42Dates from 1880, 1870 to 1880, I would think.
0:33:42 > 0:33:45Originally, I think it would have had a button here and a tassel.
0:33:45 > 0:33:49But I think they are gorgeous. Really stylish gentleman's headgear.
0:33:49 > 0:33:51Can I put it on? Go on, then.
0:33:51 > 0:33:54Watch the hair, Caroline! THEY LAUGH
0:33:54 > 0:33:56Look at that.
0:33:56 > 0:33:59Now that looks really good. Is that cool or what?
0:33:59 > 0:34:01- Sold it to me. - Yeah, I think it's gorgeous.
0:34:01 > 0:34:02What do you think of it, chaps?
0:34:02 > 0:34:06- I think it's different. It's going to stand out in the auction.- Yeah.
0:34:06 > 0:34:09- How much did that set you back then? - £24.
0:34:09 > 0:34:11Less than I thought it would be.
0:34:11 > 0:34:14- How much do you think it would make at auction?- £25. No...
0:34:14 > 0:34:18I would think between 20 and £30. 25, £35.
0:34:18 > 0:34:22- Potentially a small profit in there. - Yes, a small profit.
0:34:22 > 0:34:25So, while the chaps put their thinking caps on, we'll go and see
0:34:25 > 0:34:28what the auctioneer thinks of Caroline's rather lovely bonus buy.
0:34:28 > 0:34:31- Now, Charles, I love this. - I can see why.
0:34:31 > 0:34:32A smoker's cap. Now, I think,
0:34:32 > 0:34:34in your study, with your pipe at night...
0:34:34 > 0:34:37- Yes.- ..it would suit you down to the ground.
0:34:37 > 0:34:39There we are. Well, we've got a buyer for it then.
0:34:39 > 0:34:41SHE LAUGHS
0:34:41 > 0:34:43Nice decoration, nice embroidery.
0:34:43 > 0:34:46Yeah, I like it. It's tiny. A bit small, maybe.
0:34:46 > 0:34:48And it's missing its tassel off the top here.
0:34:48 > 0:34:51- Missing the tassel, you are quite right.- Which is a shame, really.
0:34:51 > 0:34:52Nonetheless, great thing.
0:34:52 > 0:34:54So what's your thoughts with regards to that, Charles?
0:34:54 > 0:34:57We've put ten to 20 on it. The tassel is a slight shame.
0:34:57 > 0:34:59But I hope I've been a bit cautious here.
0:34:59 > 0:35:01Yeah, I hope so too
0:35:01 > 0:35:03cos I think the embroidery on it is particularly lovely.
0:35:03 > 0:35:06- So, OK. Caroline paid £24 for it. - OK.
0:35:06 > 0:35:09- So predicting, potentially, a little loss there.- A little loss.
0:35:09 > 0:35:11Charles, will you be taking the auction for us?
0:35:11 > 0:35:12I'm happy to say I will be.
0:35:12 > 0:35:15- Brilliant, we are hugely looking forward to it.- Excellent.
0:35:16 > 0:35:18..to my right. 40. 60 in the room.
0:35:18 > 0:35:23Last time then. 65. All done.
0:35:23 > 0:35:24Right, well, look.
0:35:24 > 0:35:27First of all, we've got coming up your brass trumpet.
0:35:27 > 0:35:28John, this was your favourite.
0:35:28 > 0:35:31- And you predicted the most profit on this.- Yes.- Yeah.
0:35:31 > 0:35:33There is absolutely no cause for concern.
0:35:33 > 0:35:36I think this item is going to go for the most.
0:35:36 > 0:35:39- I love your confidence. - Slightly sceptical.
0:35:39 > 0:35:41- To say the least. - THEY ALL LAUGH
0:35:41 > 0:35:42We'll see.
0:35:42 > 0:35:44You invested £63 in it.
0:35:44 > 0:35:47Let's hope we can get that back for you. If not more. Here it comes.
0:35:47 > 0:35:49Any musicians in here today?
0:35:49 > 0:35:50£30 to start me.
0:35:50 > 0:35:5230 to go. There should be hands.
0:35:52 > 0:35:5420 if you will, then.
0:35:54 > 0:35:56In and away. 12 and 15 we start at...
0:35:56 > 0:36:00- John, how are you feeling? - Great. 18. 18.
0:36:00 > 0:36:03Taking the gentleman's bid at 18. Is there 20 for you online?
0:36:03 > 0:36:04Come on, trumpet.
0:36:04 > 0:36:06Bid's with you, sir, on the left as I see it.
0:36:06 > 0:36:09The trumpet is done then. Selling to my left at 18 only.
0:36:09 > 0:36:13- £18.- Is that good?- No. - That made you a loss of £45, sadly.
0:36:13 > 0:36:18So now we've got the painted wooden child's toy train.
0:36:18 > 0:36:21You bought this for only £5. I love this.
0:36:21 > 0:36:24Let's recoup some of those losses, let's go.
0:36:24 > 0:36:2550. 5. 60. 5.
0:36:25 > 0:36:27- Yes! You guys!- '70. 5'
0:36:27 > 0:36:29At £75...
0:36:29 > 0:36:31Awesome, well done! Woohoo!
0:36:31 > 0:36:34..commissioned interest here at £75. It's up to you now. Is there 80?
0:36:34 > 0:36:37Any advance? The bid is here with me, make no mistake.
0:36:37 > 0:36:39Bid in front of them. 75 and selling.
0:36:39 > 0:36:41Well done.
0:36:41 > 0:36:44- Fantastic.- Back in the game! - It made you a profit of £70.
0:36:44 > 0:36:46That recoups your losses on the trumpet.
0:36:46 > 0:36:48You're at plus £25 now. Here we go.
0:36:48 > 0:36:53We have got the wonderful miner's lamp coming up now. Best of luck.
0:36:53 > 0:36:55Good piece of social history here for you.
0:36:55 > 0:36:58Interest again. Three bidders here with me.
