0:00:02 > 0:00:06Today, the show comes from Lewes, in East Sussex.
0:00:06 > 0:00:11These are the beautiful grounds at the Priory of St Pancras.
0:00:11 > 0:00:12The priory fell victim to the
0:00:12 > 0:00:15Dissolution of the Monasteries Act,
0:00:15 > 0:00:18passed by Henry VIII in 1536.
0:00:20 > 0:00:24But that's all in the past. Today, it's all about the present.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26Two teams shopping against the clock,
0:00:26 > 0:00:29looking to make a profit at auction.
0:00:29 > 0:00:33So no time to waste. Let's go Bargain Hunting!
0:00:58 > 0:01:01Welcome to Lewes High Street, where the teams are ready to
0:01:01 > 0:01:03go into battle and try and come out
0:01:03 > 0:01:06on top by making the biggest profit.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09Let's have a wee look at what's in store.
0:01:10 > 0:01:14Emotions are running high as one team are seeing red.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17No, I hate them. I'm going to put my foot down.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20They are absolutely hideous.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23The others have a bad case of the blues.
0:01:23 > 0:01:24- We are losing here.- We are.
0:01:24 > 0:01:28- We've lost. We're doomed.- But I just haven't seen the right thing.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31And the auction blows hot and cold.
0:01:31 > 0:01:32- Oh!- Come on!
0:01:32 > 0:01:33Oooh...
0:01:35 > 0:01:37But that's all coming up later.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40First, let's meet today's teams.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43- Hello, everyone. ALL:- Hello!
0:01:43 > 0:01:48Today, it's a family affair. And for the Reds, we have Sophie
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and her grandad, Pat.
0:01:50 > 0:01:55And for the Blues, we have Gemma and her dad, Tim.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57So, Pat, you're retired...
0:01:57 > 0:02:00- Yeah.- ..but you were a fireman.
0:02:00 > 0:02:05And for all us gals, firemen are very glamorous characters.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08Tell us a bit about your life as a fireman.
0:02:08 > 0:02:11Well, I joined way back. It was in 1968 when I joined.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14It's a job where you go in and it's something different every day,
0:02:14 > 0:02:16and that's what keeps the adrenaline going.
0:02:16 > 0:02:20I have to ask you, what made you apply to be in the show?
0:02:20 > 0:02:22I've been trying to get the family
0:02:22 > 0:02:24- to come on the show with me for years...- Oh!
0:02:24 > 0:02:28..and the only one who stepped up to the mark was Sophie.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31Now, I know that you and Sophie are pretty close,
0:02:31 > 0:02:35but you think of your grandad as a bit of a geezer, am I right?
0:02:35 > 0:02:37I think he likes to think he's a bit of a geezer.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40- Basically because I come from Peckham.- Oh, right.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43Peckham. I recognised your accent. THEY LAUGH
0:02:43 > 0:02:47- Fools And Horses, I'm more the fool. - Oh, right.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51Now, Sophie, when you're not hanging out with your cool
0:02:51 > 0:02:54grandad, what do you get up to?
0:02:54 > 0:02:56I'm a supervisor in a menswear shop.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00- Ah, right. But you like to travel as well?- A fair bit, yeah.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03I've done a lot of European capitals, but I'd like to do more.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06So you guys obviously get on very, very well,
0:03:06 > 0:03:09but how are you going to get on out there today?
0:03:09 > 0:03:11Well, hopefully, we will work well as a team.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14She's having all the profit anyway, so she's got to...
0:03:14 > 0:03:17- That's very important. - ..work harder. - THEY LAUGH
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Well, that sounds wonderful and I'm sure you'll do well.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26- Gemma and Tim.- Yes. - Lovely to have you on the show.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28So, Gemma, you're currently a student.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30- Tell me what you're studying.- I am.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33I'm currently studying bioveterinary science.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35I'm in my third year and I've just applied
0:03:35 > 0:03:37to study vet school afterwards.
0:03:37 > 0:03:40So another five years on top of the three years cos I thought,
0:03:40 > 0:03:42"What about just staying in education and
0:03:42 > 0:03:43"not ever getting a job?"
0:03:43 > 0:03:44It's the best way of doing it.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46I'll just rely on my dad for the rest of my life.
0:03:46 > 0:03:47- Aw!- It's good, it's fine.
0:03:47 > 0:03:50- Well, that's what dads are for. - Exactly.
0:03:50 > 0:03:53- Tim, tell us what you do for a living.- I'm an electrician.
0:03:53 > 0:03:55- A lowly electrician.- Right.
0:03:55 > 0:03:57Luckily, being an electrician has taken me
0:03:57 > 0:04:00to a lot of places around the world, so I feel quite privileged.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02I've been to Hong Kong, Japan.
0:04:02 > 0:04:06- Had six weeks in Central Park in New York.- He never takes me.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13- We know what we like...- Yeah.
0:04:13 > 0:04:15What sort of things do you like?
0:04:15 > 0:04:16Can we give that away now?
0:04:16 > 0:04:18Because the opposition might get a few hints.
0:04:18 > 0:04:22- They might get in first.- We won't tell them. We won't tell them.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24May the best Red team win.
0:04:25 > 0:04:28I'm not going to hold you back any longer, folks.
0:04:28 > 0:04:33- Now for the money moment. £300 for you, and £300 for you.- Thank you.
0:04:33 > 0:04:38Your experts await, so off you go and very, very, very good luck.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43Families, eh? And of course,
0:04:43 > 0:04:47our teams need some guidance along the way, so let's meet the experts.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09- So what are we looking for?- Anything that catches our eye, really.
0:05:09 > 0:05:10Something pretty, I think.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13Well, things to do with animals, that's our thing we love.
0:05:13 > 0:05:15Something to do with country pursuits.
0:05:15 > 0:05:17- Dogs.- Dogs.
0:05:17 > 0:05:19Dogs, horses. Anything along those lines.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22- Sounds to me like we have got a plan, then.- It's a plan.
0:05:22 > 0:05:26OK, teams. 60 minutes on the clock. Your time starts now.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32- Let's go find a dog.- OK.
0:05:32 > 0:05:34Right, teams.
0:05:34 > 0:05:36Time to rove around for Rover.
0:05:36 > 0:05:39By the looks of it, you're spoilt for choice.
0:05:39 > 0:05:41They have loads of these dogs everywhere.
0:05:41 > 0:05:43Yeah, if they've got loads...
0:05:43 > 0:05:45Staffordshire dogs. Bit old school, bit like me, really.
0:05:45 > 0:05:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
0:05:47 > 0:05:49I'm not saying a word, Phil.
0:05:49 > 0:05:51It's quite a cute little thing.
0:05:51 > 0:05:55- How much is it?- £45.- It's £45, yeah.
0:05:55 > 0:05:57Is it worth thinking about coming back to?
0:05:57 > 0:05:59- It might be a little pricey. - Pricey, yeah.
0:05:59 > 0:06:01There's definitely a theme today.
0:06:02 > 0:06:06There's one other thing I did see as we came through. There's a...
0:06:06 > 0:06:09Oh, brace yourselves.
0:06:09 > 0:06:12- This one, here.- Oh, the brace. - The brace. It's different, isn't it?
0:06:12 > 0:06:13God, that's so diverse.
0:06:13 > 0:06:16The little Art Deco ashtray to a woodworking...
0:06:16 > 0:06:17I like that, though.
0:06:17 > 0:06:19Look, I'll go and have a chat with the gallery staff
0:06:19 > 0:06:21and we'll get it out and have a look.
0:06:21 > 0:06:23- That would be great.- Thank you. - Good stuff.
0:06:23 > 0:06:27Meanwhile, the Blues still only have one thing on their minds.
0:06:27 > 0:06:29Yeah, there is a couple of dogs there,
0:06:29 > 0:06:31but not really, not quirky, are they?
0:06:31 > 0:06:32They're not. They're not.
0:06:32 > 0:06:35- So we're looking for a quirky dog. - No, nothing at the end either.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38- I don't think so.- Back downstairs. - Back down. Back down.
0:06:38 > 0:06:39Right, let's go and have a wander.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42Hm. A quirky dog. I think you may have
0:06:42 > 0:06:44your work cut out today, Phil.
0:06:44 > 0:06:48- Guys, I found Stephen, and Stephen has the key.- Great.
0:06:48 > 0:06:50So, what we'd like to do,
0:06:50 > 0:06:52if we could have a look at the brace, wasn't it?
0:06:52 > 0:06:53Yeah, very much so.
0:06:53 > 0:06:55Have a close look and see if you can spot a maker's name.
0:06:55 > 0:06:57- They're often stamped.- In the wood?
0:06:57 > 0:07:00Into the wood, yeah, or sometimes engraved into the metal.
0:07:00 > 0:07:03- It's obviously been cleaned up and polished.- It's quite heavy as well.
0:07:03 > 0:07:05But you like it as an object?
0:07:05 > 0:07:08Yeah, I don't really understand what it is,
0:07:08 > 0:07:10but that's fine, if you like it.
0:07:10 > 0:07:14There's a great name for things like this. They call them mantiques.
0:07:14 > 0:07:18- BOTH:- Mantiques. - Yeah, which is boys' toys, really.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21The drill bit would go in there, you tighten it up, and then you'd put
0:07:21 > 0:07:25a bit of elbow grease and screw your hole into the wood or masonry.
0:07:25 > 0:07:27Yeah, it's nice. If I was into that...
0:07:27 > 0:07:30It all falls down to price, as always with these.
0:07:30 > 0:07:32Stephen, it's over to you.
0:07:32 > 0:07:35What's the best you can work for us on that?
0:07:35 > 0:07:39OK, well, this dealer does 20% for trade, so we're down to £48.
0:07:39 > 0:07:41- I'd do 45 for you.- 45?- Uh-huh.
0:07:41 > 0:07:45- I like it.- I think we should.- I think there's a chance on that one.
0:07:45 > 0:07:48- Yeah?- Yeah.- I'm happy with it. - Yeah, that's great.
0:07:48 > 0:07:52- From a commercial point of view... - We got our first item.- £45.
0:07:52 > 0:07:54Ah, you know the drill, Nick.
0:07:54 > 0:07:58Five minutes in, one item down, good work, Reds!
0:07:59 > 0:08:01- What does that say there? - Gem, you have a look.
0:08:01 > 0:08:02Come on, Gemma.
0:08:02 > 0:08:05- READS:- Many make it the household, but only one the home.
0:08:05 > 0:08:07Do you like that?
0:08:07 > 0:08:12- It's quirky.- Not a quirky dog, though, eh, Gem?
0:08:12 > 0:08:15- I like the groovings of it, though.- The groovings?
0:08:15 > 0:08:18- The impressions, I don't know the...- I like the groovings.
0:08:18 > 0:08:20- The groovings of it... - The grooving.- Let's quickly,
0:08:20 > 0:08:22- grooving on.- Grooving on.
0:08:24 > 0:08:27Knife rest there, they're quite nice, aren't they?
0:08:27 > 0:08:30Only cos you like dogs. I'm not a fan.
0:08:30 > 0:08:32Well spotted, guys.
0:08:32 > 0:08:37There's two, look. There's the majolica dogs, 1900, 1910.
0:08:37 > 0:08:43- £85.- A little bit toppy for us. - Yeah?- For auction purposes.
0:08:43 > 0:08:44They're ugly as well.
0:08:44 > 0:08:46Crikey, Sophie.
0:08:46 > 0:08:49There's no beating around the bush with you, is there?
0:08:49 > 0:08:52- How are the Blues getting on?- What's this, Phil?- I think that's sweet.
0:08:52 > 0:08:54It's a little school desk, isn't it?
0:08:54 > 0:08:55I think that's really, really sweet.
0:08:55 > 0:08:57How much is it?
0:08:57 > 0:08:59It either says £45 or £95.
0:08:59 > 0:09:02- £45 in my eyes, what is it really?- 95.
0:09:02 > 0:09:03- Oh, it's 95.- Yeah.
0:09:03 > 0:09:05What you want to do is get all these off
0:09:05 > 0:09:09and have a good look under this little cushion.
0:09:09 > 0:09:11- Oh, no, that's lovely. - It is nice.- It's really good.
0:09:11 > 0:09:15- Do you like that?- I do, yeah. We? - Yeah.- Definitely, yeah.
0:09:15 > 0:09:17Shall we go and see what we can do?
0:09:17 > 0:09:19Oh! It's Stephen, just in time.
0:09:19 > 0:09:22- Good sir. - So, on the ticket there, it's 95.
0:09:22 > 0:09:23Right.
0:09:23 > 0:09:26But just chatting with Phil, we'd like to go low end,
0:09:26 > 0:09:27which is at 50 straight away.
0:09:27 > 0:09:31- All right, OK, well this dealer is willing to do 20%.- BOTH:- OK.
0:09:31 > 0:09:32I can't work that out.
0:09:32 > 0:09:35It's two lots of £9.50, isn't it?
0:09:35 > 0:09:38- OK.- So I'll take £20 off for you.
0:09:38 > 0:09:4075 quid.
0:09:40 > 0:09:42- Could we ask you to keep that put by for us?- Surely.
0:09:42 > 0:09:45- Don't let that other lot buy it. - OK.- It would knock the opposition.
0:09:45 > 0:09:47- Keep it put by for an hour.- An hour?
0:09:47 > 0:09:49You've only got 50 minutes left.
0:09:49 > 0:09:51We've got a question for you.
0:09:51 > 0:09:55- We're looking for old dogs.- Right. - Have you got any old dogs?
0:09:55 > 0:09:58- We want an old dog. - Well, there's a dog over there,
0:09:58 > 0:10:00on the ink well.
0:10:00 > 0:10:01- Shall we have a look? - We'll have a look.
0:10:01 > 0:10:03We're going to have a wander round,
0:10:03 > 0:10:05but you'll definitely keep that for us.
0:10:05 > 0:10:09- I will. I'll go dog hunting for you. - Yeah, you go dog hunting.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12These two certainly have a penchant for a pooch.
0:10:13 > 0:10:14Back to the Reds.
0:10:16 > 0:10:19That's a weird little monk thing.
0:10:19 > 0:10:21I don't know what it is.
0:10:21 > 0:10:22What drew you to that?
0:10:22 > 0:10:24Cos that's really quite an interesting thing.
0:10:24 > 0:10:26- I suppose it's a bit weird. - It is a bit weird.
0:10:26 > 0:10:29I tell you what, I would imagine that the inside is hollow.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31Ah, right, yes.
0:10:31 > 0:10:34And it's going to be one of those porcelain candle snuffers.
0:10:34 > 0:10:36They can be really collectable. Shall I go and find Stephen again?
0:10:36 > 0:10:38- That would be great.- Yeah.- OK.
0:10:39 > 0:10:41Stephen's a man in demand today.
0:10:44 > 0:10:48Right, so, I mean the good news is they are candle snuffers and
0:10:48 > 0:10:51they're by Royal Worcester, which is a great name. It's a good factory.
0:10:51 > 0:10:54What's not so good is they are the modern copies.
0:10:54 > 0:10:57Well, certainly this one is, which I think is Mr Punch, isn't it?
0:10:57 > 0:11:00- Yeah, it looks like it. - Oh, no, it isn't! - THEY LAUGH
0:11:00 > 0:11:02That's the way to do it, Nick.
0:11:02 > 0:11:04It's a nice thing. It's well modelled, though.
0:11:04 > 0:11:06Can I have a look at that one, Soph? Can I swap with you?
0:11:06 > 0:11:08And you take him.
0:11:08 > 0:11:11So we've got this friar reading the good book.
0:11:11 > 0:11:1440 on this one.
0:11:14 > 0:11:18- It's 33, this one.- 33 on that one. There might be a slim margin in it.
0:11:18 > 0:11:20- I'm thinking, no. - You've gone off them now?
0:11:20 > 0:11:22Yeah, because they're not the old ones.
0:11:22 > 0:11:28- And I think they are absolutely hideous.- Well, you spotted them.
0:11:28 > 0:11:31- Don't blame us!- I spotted them. I saw that they were weird.
0:11:31 > 0:11:34- Well, they are.- They're weird and not worth anything.- OK, fair enough.
0:11:34 > 0:11:36Well, look, let's put them back in the cabinet.
0:11:36 > 0:11:38We've still got all the time in the world.
0:11:38 > 0:11:40- Not for us.- Not for us.
0:11:40 > 0:11:43OK, well, look, onwards and upwards. Let's see what else there is.
0:11:43 > 0:11:45- You didn't want them, did you? - No, no.- OK.- Just as well, isn't it?
0:11:45 > 0:11:47You can see who's in charge, can't you?
0:11:47 > 0:11:49Crikey, Sophie, you're not pulling
0:11:49 > 0:11:51any punches today, are you?
0:11:51 > 0:11:53Right, how's the dog hunt going?
0:11:53 > 0:11:55I'm not too fussed about that dog over there.
0:11:55 > 0:11:57But I have found one in here.
0:11:57 > 0:11:59- But you'll have a look, won't you?- Yes, please.
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Let's have a look at this little doggie, if we might, then.
0:12:06 > 0:12:07There we are.
0:12:07 > 0:12:09- GEMMA:- Can I see? Can I see? Oh. - You like that, yeah?
0:12:09 > 0:12:12I do, yeah. He's really sweet. OK.
0:12:12 > 0:12:15He's not very much, but I think that...
0:12:15 > 0:12:18- Heavier than I thought. - Heavier than I thought, yeah.
0:12:18 > 0:12:19What do you think, Phil?
0:12:21 > 0:12:25I mean it's not bad. It's £14, so on your...
0:12:25 > 0:12:26'12.'
0:12:26 > 0:12:29- 12. 12.- Ouch.
0:12:29 > 0:12:32I think we definitely want to get this one.
0:12:32 > 0:12:34I've fallen in love with him, so...
0:12:34 > 0:12:36'Lovely, OK. Are you sure it's a he?'
0:12:36 > 0:12:39- Don't know.- You're the vet.
0:12:39 > 0:12:40You can't tell from that.
0:12:40 > 0:12:43- Yeah, we'll do the deal on that, then.- 'OK, lovely.'
0:12:43 > 0:12:45- Thank you very much. - Is that desk and...?
0:12:45 > 0:12:48And I think we'll also, while we've got you here, I think we'll...
0:12:48 > 0:12:52- Go for the desk as well?- We've got £75 for the desk.- Correct.
0:12:52 > 0:12:56- Shake the man's hand.- OK.- And we've got £12 for your dog.- Yeah.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59- Shake the man's hand.- Thank you. - Thank you very much indeed.
0:12:59 > 0:13:03- And I'll do it just for good luck. - Well done. Two items down.
0:13:03 > 0:13:04Half an hour. Off we go.
0:13:04 > 0:13:06Nice work, Blues.
0:13:06 > 0:13:10Halfway into your shop and two items down.
0:13:10 > 0:13:13Looks like Pat has found a familiar mantique.
0:13:13 > 0:13:15How about that?
0:13:15 > 0:13:17- Vintage fire engine. - Is it an old one?
0:13:17 > 0:13:20- Yeah, oh, I don't think it is.- No?
0:13:20 > 0:13:22It was made a week last Thursday.
0:13:22 > 0:13:23VINTAGE HORN BEEPS
0:13:23 > 0:13:25Not quite a mantique, then.
0:13:25 > 0:13:29Right, teams, remember, your time's ticking away.
0:13:29 > 0:13:32What about the scales in there? Is that something?
0:13:32 > 0:13:36- At £145...- Yeah.- I think they're £60 to £90 worth.
0:13:36 > 0:13:38That's what I think.
0:13:38 > 0:13:41Money box owl? Quite like it. Price tag of £78.
0:13:41 > 0:13:44- I think that's £20 to £30.- OK.
0:13:44 > 0:13:46They're cute little glass pots.
0:13:46 > 0:13:50- £450.- I didn't see that bit of it. - Oh, no.
0:13:50 > 0:13:55Ouch! This shopping isn't as easy as it looks. Eh, guys?
0:13:55 > 0:13:57I think we were lucky that the two items were right next
0:13:57 > 0:13:59- to each other and they jumped at us straightaway.- Yes.
0:13:59 > 0:14:02- Which is how we tend to shop. That was kind of our plan.- Yeah.
0:14:02 > 0:14:05- If we like it and it suited us, we'll have a look at it.- Get it.
0:14:05 > 0:14:07Time to get a grip on the situation.
0:14:07 > 0:14:10You're 35 minutes into your shop!
0:14:10 > 0:14:12There is not much up here, though, Nick, is there?
0:14:12 > 0:14:15Certainly not as much as we saw downstairs, that's for sure.
0:14:15 > 0:14:18You're still thinking about those candle snuffers, aren't you?
0:14:18 > 0:14:20Go for those two and that gives a bit of time to
0:14:20 > 0:14:23look for our last object and really concentrate on the last object.
0:14:23 > 0:14:25You might be right. I think he might be right.
0:14:25 > 0:14:29Ah, so coming round to the idea of those snuffers, eh, Soph?
0:14:29 > 0:14:32Now you've seen them again, are you still anti them?
0:14:32 > 0:14:34I just think they're a bit gross.
0:14:34 > 0:14:36Cos you know why Pat's interested, don't you?
0:14:36 > 0:14:39Because they're candle snuffers and he's spent half his life
0:14:39 > 0:14:42- putting fires out.- Yeah. - THEY LAUGH
0:14:42 > 0:14:45I think you boys have made up your mind. Poor Sophie.
0:14:45 > 0:14:47- Why don't I go and have a chat with Stephen?- OK.
0:14:47 > 0:14:49- See if I can come back with a figure.- OK.
0:14:49 > 0:14:53- And just chew it over and you see what you think.- OK.- OK.
0:14:53 > 0:14:56- All right, I'll go and get a price for you.- That's great.
0:14:57 > 0:15:01- I know you don't like them, but if they are collectable...- Yeah.
0:15:01 > 0:15:04We mustn't go for what WE like or what we don't like,
0:15:04 > 0:15:05is it, really?
0:15:05 > 0:15:06Precisely, Pat.
0:15:06 > 0:15:10Now, hopefully there's a bit more unison over at the Blue camp.
0:15:10 > 0:15:14- Right, so we're now losing time, aren't we?- We are.
0:15:14 > 0:15:16We've got two bits bought and we need to...
0:15:16 > 0:15:20- Struggling on the last one. - ..we need to concentrate.
0:15:20 > 0:15:23Ah, so now it's time to concentrate, Phil?
0:15:23 > 0:15:25Let's hope Nick is a bit more focused.
0:15:25 > 0:15:29There is a deal to be done if you buy them both together for one lot.
0:15:29 > 0:15:3155 quid for the two.
0:15:31 > 0:15:34- Well, they're so nice(!) - She's still not sure, is she?
0:15:34 > 0:15:35I think we should go for it, Sophie.
0:15:35 > 0:15:38- I think there's a margin of a profit there.- All right.
0:15:38 > 0:15:39Yeah, are you happy with that?
0:15:39 > 0:15:42£55 for both of them and it'll make one lot in the auction.
0:15:42 > 0:15:44- OK, fine.- Are you sure? - Yeah, yeah.- OK, brilliant.
0:15:44 > 0:15:47I'll go and tell Stephen it's sold and we'll push on for the next lot.
0:15:47 > 0:15:50- Fab.- Two bought. Well done.- Yeah.
0:15:50 > 0:15:54Well, it took a bit of persuasion, Soph, but you got there in the end.
0:15:54 > 0:15:56How are you getting on, Blues?
0:15:56 > 0:15:59- We're losing here.- We are. - We've lost. We are doomed.
0:15:59 > 0:16:02We've got 20 minutes left. We've got a pocket full of money.
0:16:02 > 0:16:05- What are we going to buy? How much do you want to spend?- We'll spend...
0:16:05 > 0:16:07A pound or £200?
0:16:07 > 0:16:08£199 if it's the right thing,
0:16:08 > 0:16:10but I just haven't seen the right thing.
0:16:10 > 0:16:11Oh, dear. Oh, dear.
0:16:11 > 0:16:14I think Sophie is with you there, Tim.
0:16:14 > 0:16:19I'm just wary that Sophie hasn't chosen any of the three things.
0:16:19 > 0:16:22- You know...- True, yes. - THEY LAUGH
0:16:22 > 0:16:25- Have you got your eye on something? - Yeah, but it's all like...
0:16:25 > 0:16:28- I don't think it'll sell.- Do you want to have a look at those?- Yeah.
0:16:28 > 0:16:31Have a look at those each and see what you think.
0:16:31 > 0:16:33What does that one say?
0:16:33 > 0:16:37- This one says £17.50.- That's not bad. Does it say if it's silver?
0:16:37 > 0:16:39- Silver...- Silver and turquoise.
0:16:39 > 0:16:42Well, turquoise is quite a good stone to have in jewellery.
0:16:42 > 0:16:44It's a pretty design. And yours, Soph?
0:16:44 > 0:16:48- It's £22 and it says Arts and Crafts.- Yeah.
0:16:48 > 0:16:51I think you might have hit upon a nice little group lot there.
0:16:51 > 0:16:54Oh, sounds promising, eh, Soph?
0:16:54 > 0:16:57- I think after touching them, they feel a bit cheap.- Oh.
0:16:57 > 0:16:59- They're not the quality you were hoping for?- No.
0:16:59 > 0:17:03Well, she knows what she likes at least. Ten minutes left.
0:17:03 > 0:17:06Right, well, let's put these back.
0:17:06 > 0:17:09Bearing in mind we haven't got long, just a few minutes left,
0:17:09 > 0:17:12there was one thing I spotted earlier in a cabinet
0:17:12 > 0:17:15back that way which you might like. But we're going to have to run.
0:17:15 > 0:17:17Because we're going to run out of time.
0:17:17 > 0:17:19- Let's go.- OK, let's go.- Come on.
0:17:19 > 0:17:22MUSIC: Flight Of The Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov
0:17:22 > 0:17:25Right, Nick, it's time to work your magic.
0:17:25 > 0:17:27Ooh, that's it.
0:17:27 > 0:17:31Now, look, you two, it's this one in here. Something I spotted earlier.
0:17:31 > 0:17:32Yeah, I like that.
0:17:32 > 0:17:34- You like that?- Yeah. It's really cute.- Oh, alleluia.
0:17:34 > 0:17:37I must admit, it's different, isn't it? Yes, I like that.
0:17:37 > 0:17:40- It's unusual. Do you want a closer look at it?- Yeah.- Yes, very much so.
0:17:40 > 0:17:43And I'll tell you now as well, it's got 48 on the ticket price,
0:17:43 > 0:17:46it can be 40 if we really want it.
0:17:46 > 0:17:47- OK.- Let's go and have a look at it.
0:17:49 > 0:17:53OK, Blues. Five minutes to go and one item left to buy.
0:17:53 > 0:17:56- Well, they're Doulton, aren't they? - Those are Doultons, yeah.
0:17:56 > 0:18:00- If the price is right... - You need the key to the cabinet.
0:18:00 > 0:18:03Oh, looks like Stephen's busy with the Reds.
0:18:05 > 0:18:07- So what do you think? - I think we'll go for it.- Yeah.
0:18:07 > 0:18:10- I think we'll go for that... - Yeah, your choice, Sophie, yes?
0:18:10 > 0:18:12- Yeah, I like it a lot.- Really?
0:18:12 > 0:18:16- Yeah, I would have that.- Do you want to know anything about it?
0:18:16 > 0:18:20- LAUGHS:- Not really. I'll just take it!- Just buy it! I like this.
0:18:20 > 0:18:23- Buy it! Buy, buy, buy. - Give me some facts.
0:18:23 > 0:18:27OK, well, look. It's advertising ware, it's smoking memorabilia,
0:18:27 > 0:18:32it's 1920s-ish, I think. It looks like it should be.
0:18:32 > 0:18:35Unless it's one of those pesky reproductions...
0:18:35 > 0:18:37- At this stage, I think we ought to go for it.- Yeah.
0:18:37 > 0:18:39You're quite right. We haven't got much time, have we?
0:18:39 > 0:18:41- So, it can be yours for £40.- Done.
0:18:41 > 0:18:44- Deal done?- Deal.- Right.- Third item.
0:18:44 > 0:18:47- Shake this man's hand and give him some cash.- Thank you.- And we...
0:18:47 > 0:18:50Thank you very much Stephen. ..are done.
0:18:50 > 0:18:54Great stuff. Three items in the bag. Well done.
0:18:54 > 0:18:57Back to the Blues. And quick as a flash,
0:18:57 > 0:18:59Stephen has arrived with a key.
0:18:59 > 0:19:02- These are Doulton. Started off making drainage pipes.- Oh, really?
0:19:02 > 0:19:05Yeah, and we want to just check that there's any damage.
0:19:05 > 0:19:08One of the best ways of checking for damage is run your fingers
0:19:08 > 0:19:09round it like that.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11Because your fingers are so sensitive, you'll feel
0:19:11 > 0:19:14- if there's a nick or a chip there. - Yeah.- I can feel no nicks or chips.
0:19:14 > 0:19:18- OK.- Good.- These were made back-end of the 19th century.
0:19:18 > 0:19:22- And we've now got about two minutes left.- On 48, what...?
0:19:22 > 0:19:23- DEALER:- That could be 40.
0:19:23 > 0:19:28They're going to make at auction perhaps between 20 and 40 quid.
0:19:28 > 0:19:30So if you're lucky, you get your money back.
0:19:30 > 0:19:32Living on the edge here, team. One minute left.
0:19:32 > 0:19:36- Could you squeeze that a bit more? - We'll do another two, 38.
0:19:37 > 0:19:39- GEMMA:- I think that's our decision. - Yeah 100%.- Definite?
0:19:39 > 0:19:40And you both like them?
0:19:40 > 0:19:43- BOTH:- Shake the man's hand? - Shake the man's hand.
0:19:43 > 0:19:45- Steve, thank you very much. - Thank you.
0:19:46 > 0:19:48Stop shopping! Time's up!
0:19:48 > 0:19:51This pressure's not good for me.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54- Well, we've done. Three items in the bag.- Oh, my goodness.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57Let's check out what the Red team bought.
0:19:58 > 0:20:01First up, after putting the screw on,
0:20:01 > 0:20:04they managed to get the brace for £45.
0:20:06 > 0:20:10Next up, they sniffed out the snuffers for £55.
0:20:11 > 0:20:15And it was a match made in heaven for their final piece,
0:20:15 > 0:20:18the porcelain ashtray, cost them £40.
0:20:20 > 0:20:22Pat, Sophie, did you have a nice time?
0:20:22 > 0:20:23- Yeah. It was great. - It's been fabulous.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25Pat, what was your favourite item?
0:20:25 > 0:20:28Well, my favourite items were the candle snuffers.
0:20:28 > 0:20:31- All right. Did you agree with that, Sophie?- I HATED them.
0:20:31 > 0:20:34- You hated them!- They are so ugly.
0:20:34 > 0:20:37- Sophie, what was your favourite item?- The advertising ashtray.
0:20:37 > 0:20:40All, right, OK. You think that's going to make the best profit?
0:20:40 > 0:20:42Maybe, but I do think the candle snuffers
0:20:42 > 0:20:46- might make the best profit...- Even although you hate them.- I HATE them.
0:20:46 > 0:20:49- Well, how much have you spent, chaps?- £140.
0:20:49 > 0:20:54140? Well, that means you give me £160.
0:20:54 > 0:20:56Now, Nick, that's quite a lot of money.
0:20:56 > 0:20:58That's a lot of money, isn't it?
0:20:58 > 0:21:01Have you got anything that you think might
0:21:01 > 0:21:03please both of them?
0:21:03 > 0:21:06- Well, that is my main goal, to please them beyond all else.- Yeah.
0:21:06 > 0:21:09- And if anyone can do it, you can do it.- Thank you.
0:21:09 > 0:21:13Meanwhile, let's check out what the Blues bought.
0:21:13 > 0:21:15They were sitting pretty with their first item.
0:21:15 > 0:21:19The school desk set them back £75.
0:21:20 > 0:21:23Next, they purchased the pup for £12.
0:21:25 > 0:21:28And finally, with a minute to spare,
0:21:28 > 0:21:32a pair of Royal Doulton vases set them back £38.
0:21:32 > 0:21:35- Did you guys have a good time? - Fabulous.- Such a good day.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38- Really, really good day. - Thoroughly enjoyed it, yeah.
0:21:38 > 0:21:39Tim, what was your favourite item?
0:21:39 > 0:21:43It has to be the dual children's desk.
0:21:43 > 0:21:45Gemma, do you agree with your dad?
0:21:45 > 0:21:48No, I found a little silver dog. And, yeah, he was...
0:21:48 > 0:21:50He was my favourite, I think, so...
0:21:50 > 0:21:53Whether he'll make a profit, I don't know, but...
0:21:53 > 0:21:56- Fingers crossed.- We'll just have to wait and see.- We will, we will.
0:21:56 > 0:21:58- How much money did you spend?- 125.
0:21:58 > 0:22:02- Well, could I have 175 back? - 175 for you.
0:22:02 > 0:22:05All right, which I'm going to hand over to Phil,
0:22:05 > 0:22:06who loves to spend money.
0:22:06 > 0:22:08Now, what are you going to buy with that, Phil?
0:22:08 > 0:22:10- All that money for me? - Phil, all that money!
0:22:10 > 0:22:13- Can you do that?- I'll lead them gently into a profit.
0:22:13 > 0:22:15- We like that, Phil.- We do. - We like it.
0:22:15 > 0:22:17We have every confidence in you, Phil.
0:22:17 > 0:22:20- Fool. - THEY LAUGH
0:22:20 > 0:22:23While Phil's shopping, I'm going off on a little jaunt.
0:22:27 > 0:22:31I've travelled a few miles along the coast to the town of Worthing.
0:22:31 > 0:22:33Now a bustling seaside resort,
0:22:33 > 0:22:37this Sussex town has a dark and hidden past.
0:22:38 > 0:22:43During the 18th and 19th century, UK coastal towns like Worthing
0:22:43 > 0:22:47saw a huge surge in the smuggling of contraband.
0:22:48 > 0:22:52The quantities of imported goods were on a huge scale.
0:22:52 > 0:22:54Gin was sometimes so plentiful
0:22:54 > 0:22:58that it was said that people would clean their windows with it.
0:22:59 > 0:23:04However, it was on the 22nd of February 1832 that the
0:23:04 > 0:23:07smuggling trade in Worthing would change forever.
0:23:07 > 0:23:13William Cowerson led a team of 200 men on a daring smuggling run
0:23:13 > 0:23:15which would go down in local history
0:23:15 > 0:23:18and also cost him his life.
0:23:20 > 0:23:24I've been joined by local social historian Chris Hare.
0:23:24 > 0:23:27Tell us more about the night in question.
0:23:27 > 0:23:30Well, the smugglers had landed off the coast here,
0:23:30 > 0:23:34and then they unloaded these barrels of brandy, hundreds of them.
0:23:34 > 0:23:36So they came up here, and this was a rough field then.
0:23:36 > 0:23:40And they carried on until they got to the junction of High Street
0:23:40 > 0:23:43and Warwick Street, but there, they were ambushed by the coastguard.
0:23:43 > 0:23:45The coastguard had been alerted.
0:23:45 > 0:23:48They had, and so it was a planned ambush,
0:23:48 > 0:23:50and the smugglers immediately dispersed.
0:23:50 > 0:23:52And if we walk up there, I'll show you what happened then.
0:23:52 > 0:23:53Great.
0:23:56 > 0:23:58Today, Anita, Warwick Street is shops.
0:23:58 > 0:24:01But in 1832, these were all houses.
0:24:01 > 0:24:03And of course, no streetlights. It would have been dark.
0:24:03 > 0:24:05This was like three in the morning.
0:24:05 > 0:24:07So the smugglers come in here, in the dark.
0:24:07 > 0:24:10There's a commotion because the riding officers,
0:24:10 > 0:24:12these are the mounted coastguards,
0:24:12 > 0:24:15are firing their pistols in the air, and they're doing
0:24:15 > 0:24:19that as an alert to coastguards to bring in reinforcements.
0:24:19 > 0:24:21So there's this commotion.
0:24:21 > 0:24:24People look out their windows, the smugglers are in trouble,
0:24:24 > 0:24:28they open their doors and let the smugglers into their houses.
0:24:28 > 0:24:31And then they open the back doors, and then they go out into all the
0:24:31 > 0:24:35little myriad streets and alleyways that were at the back in those days.
0:24:35 > 0:24:39So the occupants of these houses were on the smugglers' side.
0:24:39 > 0:24:43Very much so, very much so. And not on the side of the coastguard.
0:24:43 > 0:24:46Now, the coastguard was led by Lieutenant Henderson,
0:24:46 > 0:24:48but like nearly all the coastguard,
0:24:48 > 0:24:50he wasn't familiar with this area at all.
0:24:50 > 0:24:53So they went searching for them and would have gone
0:24:53 > 0:24:56up in pursuit down alleyways such as this one here.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03So Cowerson and a large group of smugglers
0:25:03 > 0:25:06are tearing up this alleyway to
0:25:06 > 0:25:09get to the Teville Stream, where there was a bridge.
0:25:09 > 0:25:13And in those days, on the bridge was a gate that was padlocked at night.
0:25:13 > 0:25:16And because they are held up by the gate,
0:25:16 > 0:25:18the coastguard catches them up.
0:25:18 > 0:25:22And Cowerson turns round with his six-foot hazel stave
0:25:22 > 0:25:27and smashes Henderson on the arm, breaking his arm.
0:25:27 > 0:25:31But unfortunately for Cowerson, Henderson was left-handed.
0:25:31 > 0:25:32GUN FIRES
0:25:32 > 0:25:35And he had his pistol in his left hand, not his right hand.
0:25:35 > 0:25:39And he shoots him point-blank range in the chest.
0:25:39 > 0:25:41And Cowerson falls lifeless to the ground.
0:25:41 > 0:25:45But that was sufficient time for his men to scramble over the gate
0:25:45 > 0:25:50and escape. All the coastguard were left with was Cowerson's dead body.
0:25:50 > 0:25:52And what did they do? Where did they take the body?
0:25:52 > 0:25:54Well, the body was taken to the local inn,
0:25:54 > 0:25:56The Anchor, and that's just up here.
0:25:56 > 0:25:58And we can go and have a look at it.
0:26:04 > 0:26:09So before Cowerson's body was laid to rest, he was brought here.
0:26:09 > 0:26:11He was brought here, to The Anchor, which is now called
0:26:11 > 0:26:14the Corner House, where the inquest was held.
0:26:14 > 0:26:19And the jury returned the verdict of justifiable homicide,
0:26:19 > 0:26:22which was no surprise. But many local people
0:26:22 > 0:26:24were so sympathetic to Cowerson,
0:26:24 > 0:26:26they almost felt it was murder.
0:26:26 > 0:26:28But the body was released to the family
0:26:28 > 0:26:31- and 1,000 people attended the funeral.- 1,000?
0:26:31 > 0:26:34Which, given how small the population was then
0:26:34 > 0:26:35compared to today,
0:26:35 > 0:26:38would be like 10,000, 15,000 people at a funeral.
0:26:39 > 0:26:41So he was regarded almost as a hero
0:26:41 > 0:26:43who died for a just cause.
0:26:44 > 0:26:47Chris, that's an incredible story, and thank you
0:26:47 > 0:26:51- so much for sharing that with us. - Pleasure.
0:26:51 > 0:26:55But let's call it a night. Tomorrow, we have an auction to go to!
0:27:03 > 0:27:07Today, we're at Bellmans Auctioneers in Billingshurst,
0:27:07 > 0:27:10and we're joined by Will Pasfield, our auctioneer.
0:27:10 > 0:27:13- Will, it's lovely to be here. - Good, good.
0:27:13 > 0:27:16- I'm glad you came. Nice to have you here too.- Ah, thank you.
0:27:16 > 0:27:19- Now, let's look at the Red team's stuff.- Yeah.
0:27:19 > 0:27:22First up is this carpenter's brace.
0:27:22 > 0:27:27Now, carpenters' tools are very popular in auction.
0:27:27 > 0:27:30- Do you like this piece? - Absolutely love it.
0:27:30 > 0:27:32It's a shame it's not signed, that one.
0:27:32 > 0:27:34Not the end of the world, but we've got the
0:27:34 > 0:27:37ebony pad on the end, which is a nice thing to see.
0:27:37 > 0:27:41It's actually a wee bit of sculpture as well as being a functional item.
0:27:41 > 0:27:44Yes, it's artwork. It's quite tactile. It's quite nice to touch.
0:27:44 > 0:27:46What's your estimate on this item?
0:27:46 > 0:27:48The estimate's £20 to £30 on this one.
0:27:48 > 0:27:52Oh, well, they paid £45 on this one, Will.
0:27:52 > 0:27:57- Could be a come and buy me estimate. - Yes, yes. A little tantaliser.
0:27:57 > 0:28:01Lovely, lovely. Now, what about these candle snuffers?
0:28:01 > 0:28:05Royal Worcester, they're mid-20th-century. It's a good name.
0:28:05 > 0:28:07They always will sell.
0:28:07 > 0:28:10I've never actually understood why you can't just blow a candle out.
0:28:10 > 0:28:12I've got to be honest with you, why you can't just blow one,
0:28:12 > 0:28:14but they're not as collectable as they used to be.
0:28:14 > 0:28:17- What's your estimate in these? - £30 to £50.- 30 to 50.
0:28:17 > 0:28:20- Now, they've paid £55...- Right. - ..on these two.
0:28:20 > 0:28:23We've got to be top estimate, that's what you're saying to me.
0:28:23 > 0:28:27Yeah, excellent. Now, what about this little ashtray here?
0:28:27 > 0:28:33The little advertising item for Abdulla cigarettes?
0:28:33 > 0:28:37Yeah, like it. Once again, I do like it. It's a nice novelty.
0:28:37 > 0:28:39And we need novelty in the world today.
0:28:39 > 0:28:43Well, Sophie liked that one. What's your estimate on that?
0:28:43 > 0:28:45My estimate on that is £40 to £60.
0:28:45 > 0:28:48- 40 to 60, well, they only paid £40 for it.- Right, there we go.
0:28:48 > 0:28:52- That's a good start.- We could be sniffing a profit on this one.- Yes.
0:28:52 > 0:28:57So, all in all, not too bad, and they may not need their bonus buy.
0:28:57 > 0:28:58But let's go and have a look at it anyway.
0:29:00 > 0:29:04Sophie, Patrick, you spent £140,
0:29:04 > 0:29:07which was not too bad.
0:29:07 > 0:29:10You left Nick 160.
0:29:10 > 0:29:12Nick, what did you buy?
0:29:12 > 0:29:15- Here we go.- What do you think about those two?- Well, that's quite nice.
0:29:15 > 0:29:19- Can I hold one?- Absolutely, one each.- What are they?
0:29:19 > 0:29:21They are fire irons.
0:29:21 > 0:29:23You put them on the side of the hearth to rest your poker
0:29:23 > 0:29:27and shovel and brush on them, but they're late Victorian, they're
0:29:27 > 0:29:29Arts and Crafts, they've got that
0:29:29 > 0:29:31sort of Christopher Dresser look about them.
0:29:31 > 0:29:34- I quite like them.- Good. - I like them more than what we got.
0:29:34 > 0:29:36Well, I'm selling it to you.
0:29:36 > 0:29:38Hopefully, we're going to sell it to the punters at the sale.
0:29:38 > 0:29:41- How much did you pay, Nick? - Now, £30 for the pair.- Really?
0:29:41 > 0:29:45- Yeah, a bargain. I did say.- How much do you reckon they'll go for?
0:29:45 > 0:29:50- Big question. I would hope £40, £50 maybe?- Oh, I like these, yeah.
0:29:50 > 0:29:51We're in with a chance, Anita.
0:29:51 > 0:29:54- You've done well, Nick. That's great.- Brilliant.
0:29:54 > 0:29:57- So you like them? You like them? - Yeah, really like them.
0:29:57 > 0:29:59You don't need to make a decision now.
0:29:59 > 0:30:02Wait until your first three lots have been sold.
0:30:02 > 0:30:05But right now, we're going to find out what the auctioneer
0:30:05 > 0:30:08thinks of Nick's fire rests.
0:30:10 > 0:30:13Will, what do you think of these fire iron rests?
0:30:13 > 0:30:17- This is Nick's bonus buy. - As objects, I love them.
0:30:17 > 0:30:20They're beautiful. They've got a lovely shape.
0:30:20 > 0:30:23Sadly, though, I think we're going to struggle with selling them
0:30:23 > 0:30:24for a great deal of money.
0:30:24 > 0:30:27We can still sell the big ones, the big country house ones.
0:30:27 > 0:30:29These are more from a Victorian house,
0:30:29 > 0:30:32from a small Victorian semidetached mid-terrace.
0:30:32 > 0:30:34The need for these is slightly negated.
0:30:34 > 0:30:37What's your estimate on this item?
0:30:37 > 0:30:41- I'll put an estimate of £30 to £50 on those.- That's not bad, Will!
0:30:41 > 0:30:45Nick only paid £30, so there's a sniff of a profit there.
0:30:45 > 0:30:48- Yeah, if they're needed, we should check out on those.- Lovely.
0:30:48 > 0:30:50So now turning to the Blues.
0:30:50 > 0:30:55Their first item was this wonderful double desk and chair,
0:30:55 > 0:30:58- turn of the century. What do you think? Do you like it?- It's...
0:30:58 > 0:31:01It's sweet, for want of a better word.
0:31:01 > 0:31:03I personally love old against new.
0:31:03 > 0:31:05And actually, in a contemporary room,
0:31:05 > 0:31:09a nice bit of old will go quite nicely, I think.
0:31:09 > 0:31:13- So what's your estimate on that? - I'll put an estimate of £40 to £60.
0:31:13 > 0:31:17- They paid £75 for it, but they're nearly there.- Yes.
0:31:17 > 0:31:21- With a good wind behind the little desk...- Yeah, they're nearly there.
0:31:21 > 0:31:24- We could get a surprise on that one. - I'll do my best again.
0:31:24 > 0:31:26Ah, excellent, excellent.
0:31:26 > 0:31:30Now, this little doggie here, little silvery doggie,
0:31:30 > 0:31:32- tell me what you think of that. - It's a nice thing.
0:31:32 > 0:31:35Maybe if we were in the Scottish Borders in sheep farming
0:31:35 > 0:31:37territory, you know, the collie dog might do better.
0:31:37 > 0:31:40You know, we're in black Labrador territory down here.
0:31:40 > 0:31:43- Oh, really.- It's a wee thing. - It's a wee thing.
0:31:43 > 0:31:45It is definitely a wee little thing.
0:31:45 > 0:31:49Um, I like it, but I can't get too excited about it.
0:31:49 > 0:31:53- Tell me what your estimate is. - £10 to £20.- Yeah. It's not a lot.
0:31:53 > 0:31:57- They paid £12 for it.- Right, there we go.- But it could make a profit.
0:31:57 > 0:31:58Yes.
0:31:58 > 0:32:03Excellent. Now, what about Doulton? Traditional auction fare.
0:32:03 > 0:32:07Doulton, the best of the factories. Tell me what you think of these.
0:32:07 > 0:32:09I still like them,
0:32:09 > 0:32:11and I like the colours, but I think at the moment,
0:32:11 > 0:32:13Doulton is struggling.
0:32:13 > 0:32:17It's a little bit...fussy for today's market.
0:32:17 > 0:32:20And same again, some of these things can be bought on size.
0:32:20 > 0:32:22Much like the collie dog, they're a bit wee.
0:32:22 > 0:32:24- I think we might struggle with these a little bit.- OK.
0:32:24 > 0:32:27- What's your estimate on the Doulton? - £20 to £30.
0:32:27 > 0:32:3220 to 30. They paid £38 on that, so they may struggle a wee bit.
0:32:32 > 0:32:34In which case, they'll need their bonus buy,
0:32:34 > 0:32:36so let's go and have a look at it.
0:32:37 > 0:32:43- Gemma, Tim. You spent £125.- We did.
0:32:43 > 0:32:47- You handed over £175 to Phil. - We did.
0:32:47 > 0:32:49Phil, did you spend every penny?
0:32:49 > 0:32:52No. No, no.
0:32:52 > 0:32:54I've got something that I think is really interesting
0:32:54 > 0:32:57and you'll...you'll love it or like it.
0:32:57 > 0:32:59- OK...- Are you ready for this? - No.- Yeah.
0:32:59 > 0:33:01Are you ready for it? Go for it.
0:33:03 > 0:33:06- Now, you're going to ask me what it is, aren't you?- Yeah.
0:33:06 > 0:33:07I don't actually know what it is,
0:33:07 > 0:33:11but I thought it was really, really nice. It might be a donkey collar.
0:33:11 > 0:33:15But I love this here, look. J Lee, Makers of Kingston.
0:33:15 > 0:33:18And this lovely old bit of leather here. And I love things like this.
0:33:18 > 0:33:21How much did you pay for it, Phil?
0:33:21 > 0:33:24- I was hoping you wouldn't ask. - THEY LAUGH
0:33:24 > 0:33:26I paid £45 for it.
0:33:26 > 0:33:29OK. How much do you think it's going to make?
0:33:30 > 0:33:33- £46? - THEY LAUGH
0:33:33 > 0:33:34It's a profit.
0:33:34 > 0:33:37But it's an unusual item, Phil.
0:33:37 > 0:33:40- Nobody knows the price of it. - Thank you, Anita.
0:33:40 > 0:33:43Do you know, she's always on my side. It's lovely.
0:33:43 > 0:33:47- You don't need to decide just now. - OK.- Probably a good job, really.
0:33:47 > 0:33:49THEY LAUGH
0:33:49 > 0:33:53But let's find out what the auctioneer thinks
0:33:53 > 0:33:56about Phil's old donkey collar.
0:33:57 > 0:34:02OK, well, this is Philip's bonus buy. What do you think of that?
0:34:02 > 0:34:04I like it again.
0:34:04 > 0:34:08Whether it's a donkey collar,
0:34:08 > 0:34:09I'm not too sure.
0:34:09 > 0:34:12I can't find out much about J Lee.
0:34:12 > 0:34:14Did it go on a donkey? I don't know.
0:34:14 > 0:34:18Has it been round a tiger in a zoo once upon a time? Who knows?
0:34:18 > 0:34:21- We don't know, and that's what makes it interesting.- And so exciting.
0:34:21 > 0:34:23- Yes.- What's your estimate on that?
0:34:23 > 0:34:25The estimate on that is £20 to £40.
0:34:25 > 0:34:29Philip paid £45 on that.
0:34:29 > 0:34:32It could be their saving grace or it could be a complete choker.
0:34:32 > 0:34:34SHE LAUGHS
0:34:34 > 0:34:38I like it, I like it. This will be very, very exciting.
0:34:38 > 0:34:4040. 5. 50.
0:34:40 > 0:34:4160. 5 now.
0:34:41 > 0:34:445 anywhere? All done, thank you. 70.
0:34:46 > 0:34:48Sophie, Pat, the moment of truth.
0:34:48 > 0:34:54- Are your lots going to make lots of profit or not?- Not.
0:34:54 > 0:34:56Are you excited?
0:34:56 > 0:35:00- I'm very excited, yeah. - Full of anticipation?- Yeah.
0:35:00 > 0:35:05- We're quietly pessimistic. - Pessimistic?
0:35:05 > 0:35:07But you've bought lovely and interesting items.
0:35:07 > 0:35:10Don't you just love their trust in me, Anita? Great, isn't it?
0:35:10 > 0:35:12Warms the cockles of your heart, doesn't it?
0:35:12 > 0:35:13THEY LAUGH
0:35:13 > 0:35:18Anyway, the carpenter's brace, your first item, is coming up now,
0:35:18 > 0:35:21and you paid £45 for it.

0:35:23 > 0:35:24and brass mounted
0:35:24 > 0:35:26carpenter's pad brace.

0:35:27 > 0:35:28turn handle there.
