0:00:06 > 0:00:09Today, I'm in Anglesey, off the north-west coast of Wales.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12And here's a great statistic.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16There are three times the number of sheep in Wales than people.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18MUSIC: Sheep by The Housemartins

0:00:19 > 0:00:24So you could say it's the perfect place to find a ba-a-a-a-rgain.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25What do you think?

0:00:25 > 0:00:27BAAA!

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Let's go bargain hunting!

0:00:52 > 0:00:56We're at the Mona Showground for today's fair.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59This place is literally brimming with goodies.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03Our teams have one hour and ?300 to seek out those bargains.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07The aim is to make a profit at auction.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Let's see what's coming up.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15The Reds join a fan club... Wow. I'm a big fan of that.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Yeah, I'm a big fan of it. Boom-boom!

0:01:17 > 0:01:20And the Blues find a friend.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Oh, that's a curly one! Awful! I've never seen a curly hedgehog, though.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Curly. Yeah! Curly. Curly!

0:01:28 > 0:01:30And drama at the auction.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Get in! Yes, yes!

0:01:32 > 0:01:34I'm absolutely staggered.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38?10, for these. Ten, I am bid straight away. Without hesitance.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40That's all for later.

0:01:40 > 0:01:46But now, let's meet today's teams and we have two teams of best pals.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48For the Reds, it's Jason and David.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51And for the Blues, Lesley and Lee.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Hello, everyone. ALL: Hello!

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Oh! Yeah, lots of gusto.

0:01:55 > 0:02:00Now, Jason, you and David both work in a chemical plant.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Tell me a little bit about that.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Basically, we make dilithium crystals

0:02:05 > 0:02:07that goes into the pharmaceutical chain,

0:02:07 > 0:02:11so it is used for kidney dialysis and stuff like that, basically.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15What do you do to de-stress? What sort of hobbies do you have?

0:02:15 > 0:02:19One of the things I do occasionally is wing walking.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23What is wing walking? OK, so... Wing walking?!

0:02:23 > 0:02:29So, basically, you strap yourself on top of a plane, about 45 minutes,

0:02:29 > 0:02:33up in the air, 150mph, loops and turns and stuff like that.

0:02:33 > 0:02:39Are you telling me that you stand on the outside of a plane...

0:02:39 > 0:02:43Yeah. ..which flies in the air? Yeah, yeah.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47Is it not a wee bit chilly? It is. You do have to wrap up.

0:02:47 > 0:02:52Even on the warmest of days, it can get a bit chilly, yeah.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55It all sounds a bit mad to me. Dave, I believe you have

0:02:55 > 0:02:59a different type of hobby. You're into metal detecting?

0:02:59 > 0:03:01Yeah. Tell me about that.

0:03:01 > 0:03:05Well, I've got a friend who took me metal detecting a couple of times

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and we were out finding different objects

0:03:08 > 0:03:12and we found a Roman coin that he said was quite valuable.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15I put it in my pocket. On the way home, we pulled up for some petrol

0:03:15 > 0:03:18and I pulled my wallet out and it drops out of my pocket

0:03:18 > 0:03:20and into a grid, so that was the end of that.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23So, I never got anything for it! I hope you don't drop your money

0:03:23 > 0:03:25when you're out bargain hunting today!

0:03:25 > 0:03:26No. Not ?300 worth, no.

0:03:26 > 0:03:31So, you two are best mates, but how are you at bargain hunting?

0:03:31 > 0:03:35What tactics are you going to use to win the game today?

0:03:35 > 0:03:39I reckon we are going to go for the shabby chic stuff.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Yeah. We are going to.... Shabby chic! Definitely.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45That's the future. We've seen it and people are into that market.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48And what do you think, Dave? I think a bit of banter

0:03:48 > 0:03:51with the stallholders and a bit of humour and try

0:03:51 > 0:03:55and knock them down that way. Get on their side. Not literally! Yeah.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57You've got it all worked out.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01So, that's the Red team. Over to our Blues, Lesley and Lee.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04So, tell me how the two met.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Well, I moved up to Chester a few years ago

0:04:07 > 0:04:09and renovated a dilapidated old house.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Lee was one of the builders on site and we just clicked and hit it off.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16And we bonded over a bottle of champagne, really, wasn't it?

0:04:16 > 0:04:17Yeah, most evenings.

0:04:19 > 0:04:21You have an interesting interest.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24You're a hedgehog champion! How do you do that?

0:04:24 > 0:04:29Oh, I love hedgehogs. They're the most amazing little creatures.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31I started feeding them and then I just got about

0:04:31 > 0:04:35eight to ten hedgehogs turning up every night.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37Some were injured and had been through the wars,

0:04:37 > 0:04:40so I literally would take them over to the rescue centre

0:04:40 > 0:04:43and then re-release them in my garden.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47Maybe you'll find something hedgehog-related out there today.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51So, over to Lee. Now, you're a builder.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53I am, yes. Tell me what sort of things you do.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56I like to do restorative sort of things, where you take

0:04:56 > 0:04:59the old and take it back to how it was when it was first built,

0:04:59 > 0:05:00so it's quite a technical job.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03I've been working in the trade for now, maybe, six years,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06but in recent times, I've tried to follow my dreams

0:05:06 > 0:05:07and become a full-time artist.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10So, you're an artist, as well? I am, yes. What sort of style?

0:05:10 > 0:05:14Very detailed work. Landscapes, portraits, nature. Things like that.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16But it's got to look like it's just been taken a photo of.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18It's got to look very, very detailed.

0:05:18 > 0:05:24What's going to be the plan today, because these guys want to beat you?

0:05:24 > 0:05:26We did think, what is our strategy going to be?

0:05:26 > 0:05:29And that is to get them right down to the baseline that they're

0:05:29 > 0:05:32prepared to give it to us and then, buy for low and sell for high.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36Right, OK. So, you feel that haggling's the thing to do?

0:05:36 > 0:05:37We do. Absolutely. Haggling!

0:05:37 > 0:05:42That's it. Well, that sounds like a brilliant plan.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Better give you some money. ?300 for the Blues

0:05:44 > 0:05:46and ?300 for the Reds.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50Your experts await, so off you go.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Both these teams fancy their chances today.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56We're in for a great competition!

0:05:59 > 0:06:03Our competitive teams need a couple of very talented experts.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05Pulling the strings for the Reds,

0:06:05 > 0:06:07it's Caroline Hawley.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10And he's a wise old owl.

0:06:10 > 0:06:12For the Blues, it's Philip Serrell.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18Hey, guys! Come on! What are you looking for?

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Something cheap. Something cheap.

0:06:20 > 0:06:22Is there any plan, at all?

0:06:22 > 0:06:24I think we're going to walk around, see what we like,

0:06:24 > 0:06:26find something rare or unusual.

0:06:26 > 0:06:27Something retro.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29Something... Yeah, something that's

0:06:29 > 0:06:31got something about it that stands out.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Well, I like small, shiny, unusual,

0:06:33 > 0:06:38unique items that we can buy quite low and sell high.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Both teams know what they're looking for.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44That's a good start. So let competition commence!

0:06:44 > 0:06:48OK, teams, time to cut a deal. Your 60 minutes start now.

0:06:48 > 0:06:49OLD-FASHIONED CAR HORN HONKS

0:06:49 > 0:06:51That sounds like a plan to me.

0:06:51 > 0:06:55Shall we go and find some cheap retro? That's what we need.

0:06:55 > 0:06:56There's plenty to choose from

0:06:56 > 0:06:59and the Blues are onto something already.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01Let's go and have a look at this stall.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03That's quite fun, isn't it? How much is he?

0:07:03 > 0:07:04295.

0:07:04 > 0:07:05PHILIP WHISTLES

0:07:05 > 0:07:08Ouch! That is certainly unique, but too much money.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10And the Reds seem a bit confused.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13What's going to make us some money? What's retro and...?

0:07:13 > 0:07:16What's us, Dave? I mean...

0:07:16 > 0:07:20I don't know. No. There's a retro radio.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Yeah, I think it's more new than retro, that thing.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26Are the Blues faring any better?

0:07:26 > 0:07:28I quite like that propeller. I like that.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30It doesn't look particularly old to me or very...

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Yeah, but I don't, do I? Do I? Do I? I don't look old, do I?

0:07:33 > 0:07:36No. Thank you. The thing is, I suspect the ends

0:07:36 > 0:07:38might have been cut off it a little bit.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Hmm. And you're right, it hasn't got great age.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42I would think that's probably '50s.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Yeah. But you don't like it? Full stop, end of?

0:07:44 > 0:07:46No, not for that price.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48Thanks very much indeed.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Lee is very decisive. I like his style.

0:07:51 > 0:07:52So, time to move on.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54But how decisive are the Reds?

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Is there anything in this cabinet that you've spotted?

0:07:57 > 0:08:01There's some nice silver cuff links. 1964.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03Now, those are quite modern. Would you wear something like that?

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Definitely got a bit of a flair to them, haven't they,

0:08:06 > 0:08:07in terms of the design?

0:08:07 > 0:08:10Yeah, you could see them with the flares. You can. Boom-boom!

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Flared trousers and big collars. There you go.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14You'd be all right, then. I would, yeah,

0:08:14 > 0:08:17I offer wear a decent pair of flares on a night out. Do you?

0:08:17 > 0:08:19I do, yeah. I can see it now. Will we have a little look at them?

0:08:19 > 0:08:22We can do, yeah, if you want to have a look at them.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28They look like they're in good condition, don't they? 1964.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31So, yeah. Right. The hallmark is...

0:08:31 > 0:08:33Let's just have a look.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38Yeah, there's the hallmark.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41So, the hallmark tells you that's real silver, does it? Yeah.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44British sterling silver. OK.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48And you have got the leopard's head, for London.

0:08:48 > 0:08:54You have got three little boxes and, if I look with that, yeah,

0:08:54 > 0:08:58it is, indeed, the leopard's head. The small "i", all in little boxes.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01And it's the style of the box, as well, that you have to look at.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04And they're nice quality and this decoration is very...

0:09:04 > 0:09:07It's almost psychedelic. It is and it will go. It can... '60s.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09So what do you think that would get at auction?

0:09:09 > 0:09:12Well, I think they need to be less than that, to make a profit.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14Well, ask the gentleman his best price.

0:09:14 > 0:09:18Have we got a best price for that? Best price. The very best price

0:09:18 > 0:09:19I can do is 24.

0:09:19 > 0:09:2324? Mm... Don't know about that. There's not much room for profit

0:09:23 > 0:09:26on that, though, is there? Is it something we could come back to?

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Do you want to come back to that? Yeah, I think so.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30I'll hold on to it for you, for a little while.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32- OK, thank you. Thank you. Right, guys,

0:09:32 > 0:09:35remember where they are, when we come back. Yeah. OK?

0:09:35 > 0:09:37Brilliant. Come on. Let's go.

0:09:37 > 0:09:42So the decision is to put it on the back burner and keep hunting.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45But it looks like the Blues have spotted something.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Do you like the look of that?

0:09:47 > 0:09:49I do, actually, yeah. Let's have a look at it.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Do you want to grab it? That's good.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53So, this is... It's like a barrel, isn't it?

0:09:53 > 0:09:59This is probably silver-plated. It's very much between the wars. Yep.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01And how much is that?

0:10:01 > 0:10:0525. 25 quid? Would you like that? How heavy is it?

0:10:05 > 0:10:09Oh, I think that's really nice. I think it's a decent weight.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12Quite a cool thing, isn't it? Yeah. It's very tangible, the wood.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15Yeah. It's well made. It feels good like that.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Won't that look good on a table? It will. Really, really good.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21Hopefully, on somebody else's table. Well, mine.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24It's a really cool thing. What do you reckon?

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Obviously, I like it, cos my surname's Cooper

0:10:26 > 0:10:29and coopers are barrel makers. Well, there you are.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32A cooper barrel. If ever there was an omen for buying a lot,

0:10:32 > 0:10:35that's it. That's it. What's the best you can give us for this?

0:10:35 > 0:10:40Nice bit. ?15. ?15? No less. I'm not saying a word here.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43?10 off. 15, to go. Will you take 13?

0:10:43 > 0:10:48Afraid not. It's got to be 15. 14? 15, yeah.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51You're the deciding vote. It's one cheap item.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Let's go for it. And it is a cooper pot. Thank you very much.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56You happy with that. Yes, I am, thank you. Thank you very much.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59The stallholder stuck to his guns, but that's a good price.

0:10:59 > 0:11:03Ten minutes in, the Blues are storming ahead.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05But how are the Reds getting on?

0:11:05 > 0:11:07They are a bit overwhelmed.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12You want it to jump out and grab you, don't you?

0:11:12 > 0:11:15I do, yeah. It's just... a feeling. The passion! Yeah.

0:11:15 > 0:11:19I'll know it when I see it. Right, well, you've got 40 minutes

0:11:19 > 0:11:22to know it! Right. Not a problem.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26But hang on a minute, something has caught their attention.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28What about that, there, Jase?

0:11:28 > 0:11:29Oh, yeah.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Hey, what have you found?

0:11:31 > 0:11:35It's definitely jumped out on us. It's something I mentioned earlier,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38we were after something that was shabby chic and, guess what?

0:11:38 > 0:11:42It's shabby chic! That is exactly what you were talking about.

0:11:42 > 0:11:46The shabby chic, with the painting, the rubbing through.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49And also, it would go nicely on somebody's dressing table,

0:11:49 > 0:11:51I think. Keep all your trinkets in there.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54Did it jump out at you? Or did you jump on it?

0:11:54 > 0:11:57You could say it jumped out on me, yeah.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01So, how much did it tell you it is, this delightful piece?

0:12:01 > 0:12:03About ?28.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05Did it?! It did. Oh, yeah!

0:12:07 > 0:12:10Right. I think, if we can chop that down a bit...

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Chop it down to what? Shall we say... 20-ish.

0:12:13 > 0:12:1620-ish? Yeah. If we can get ?10 off that, we're in.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19I think you'd get 30-odd quid for that. Do we find the owner?

0:12:19 > 0:12:20Yep.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23Priced up at ?28.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26I'll do it for 25.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28How about 20?

0:12:28 > 0:12:3121, how's that? 21. 21.

0:12:31 > 0:12:3421 is a fair price. Yeah, I'll go for that. Yeah.

0:12:34 > 0:12:3721, it is. Yeah, OK? It's a pleasure.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Thank you. Oh, well done. That's their first buy.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Thank you, sir. You're welcome.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46Fantastic. Finally, one item is in the bag,

0:12:46 > 0:12:49but time is ticking and time for Caroline to have a word.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53We've got 32 minutes gone, 28 minutes to go

0:12:53 > 0:12:56and we've got one buy. What about the cuff links?

0:12:56 > 0:12:58Yeah, we quite like the cuff links, don't we?

0:12:58 > 0:12:59Yeah, we could go back to the cuff links.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03Keep looking. Yeah. And then go back, is that what you're saying?

0:13:03 > 0:13:08Yeah. Right, where do you want to go now? That way. That way?

0:13:08 > 0:13:09Right, come on, then! That way it is!

0:13:09 > 0:13:12Decision made. That's what I like to see.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15And while both teams keep searching,

0:13:15 > 0:13:17I've been doing a little browsing myself.

0:13:17 > 0:13:21You never know what you might find and I've spotted something

0:13:21 > 0:13:25that makes use of that fine Welsh wool.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28You know you're in Wales when you come across these

0:13:28 > 0:13:31traditional Welsh blankets. But I've noticed a lot of fairs

0:13:31 > 0:13:34are selling them, so what's the story behind them?

0:13:34 > 0:13:39150 years ago, almost every Welsh home had one of these.

0:13:39 > 0:13:44They were used as bed covers, but also as rugs and curtains.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48The very early ones were plain, but the Victorian ones had

0:13:48 > 0:13:54a slightly different pattern on each side, often with long fringes.

0:13:54 > 0:13:59They were double weave and extremely hard wearing.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02Often a young bride would receive one and these would

0:14:02 > 0:14:06become a treasured family heirloom.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09These single weave blankets were made between

0:14:09 > 0:14:11the 1940s and the 1970s.

0:14:11 > 0:14:16But by the 1970s, duvets were becoming fashionable

0:14:16 > 0:14:21and many of these wonderful blankets were thrown out, as worthless.

0:14:21 > 0:14:27But they have become fashionable again, but what do they cost?

0:14:27 > 0:14:32Well, an original blanket from the 1940s, like this one here,

0:14:32 > 0:14:37would cost round about ?80, depending on size and condition.

0:14:37 > 0:14:41But here's something to look out for -

0:14:41 > 0:14:45the original label of the woollen mill where they were made.

0:14:45 > 0:14:50This blanket is made by Derw, which means "oak",

0:14:50 > 0:14:53and the collectors will love to see that label.

0:14:53 > 0:14:58The very early blankets, like this one here,

0:14:58 > 0:15:04which is a wonderful Victorian example, can cost upwards of ?300.

0:15:04 > 0:15:10I love these wonderful Welsh blankets and I have some at home.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13But a little bird told me that when the Duchess of Cambridge

0:15:13 > 0:15:18lived in Anglesey, she bought one of these as a cot blanket.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21So, not only are they very fashionable,

0:15:21 > 0:15:23they are fit for royalty!

0:15:27 > 0:15:29Time to get back to our teams.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32They are halfway through shopping and have one item each

0:15:32 > 0:15:35and it looks like the Blues are finally in agreement.

0:15:38 > 0:15:40I like this on the wall. I quite like that, at the end.

0:15:40 > 0:15:43Yeah. What, you both like the same thing? Shock horror!

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Shock horror! Absolutely.

0:15:45 > 0:15:49Is there a chair? I need a bed, I think!

0:15:49 > 0:15:51Can you pass it over? What is it?

0:15:51 > 0:15:53Looks like a wall sconce, isn't it? A sconce, yeah.

0:15:53 > 0:15:57It looks like it used to be electrified. ?45 on that.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01It's a light fitting? Yeah. I would think that's been put on that later.

0:16:01 > 0:16:06Yes. It originally, perhaps, had a candle stand on there.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08Yeah. But I quite like that. It hasn't been polished

0:16:08 > 0:16:10or tried to be cleaned. It just looks like old

0:16:10 > 0:16:12and you just stick it on the wall as it is.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14And it's of that Arts and Crafts period.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16It's got a nice look to it, hasn't it?

0:16:16 > 0:16:19The purpose of light is to light a room and one of the ways you could

0:16:19 > 0:16:22double the light in a room is to use a mirror

0:16:22 > 0:16:26or a piece of highly-polished metal, because it reflected the light.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29So, I think that's a really cool thing. I quite like that.

0:16:29 > 0:16:30So, how old do you think it is?

0:16:30 > 0:16:35I would think it's early 20th century. How much is that? 45.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37What would you say it would make at auction?

0:16:37 > 0:16:40I would think it is between ?30 and ?50. Right.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42But remember, these guys have got to make a living,

0:16:42 > 0:16:44they've got to eat. Yeah, they have.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47So, you know, don't be too hard on the negotiations.

0:16:47 > 0:16:52But do you like that? I really like this, but maybe for about ?15.

0:16:52 > 0:16:5415 quid? Mmm. Really?

0:16:54 > 0:16:5820, I'd say. ?45? Mm. All the best.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01Better go and see what you can do, but be gentle, be gentle.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04While Lesley goes off to gently strike a deal,

0:17:04 > 0:17:07have the Reds found their next buy?

0:17:07 > 0:17:11I think we need to get a good item. Right, well, what... A quality item.

0:17:11 > 0:17:14Good quality? So, the furniture, silver...?

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Yes. Silver, possibly. Silver. Ish. Yeah.

0:17:17 > 0:17:21Hmm, seems like they are still pondering.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23So, what is the news with the Blues?

0:17:23 > 0:17:25?22.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27Well done, you, well done, you!

0:17:27 > 0:17:29Now, we need to recap. So, there is ?22 on that.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31How much was our little wooden oak...?

0:17:31 > 0:17:3715. 15. So, we have spent the princely sum of ?37.

0:17:37 > 0:17:40Nobody will ever believe that! Somebody call security!

0:17:41 > 0:17:44They may be the last of the big spenders,

0:17:44 > 0:17:46but the Blues are making great progress.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48I think they've done really, really well.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51Half an hour gone, that's all, and they've bought two items,

0:17:51 > 0:17:52but they've spent no money.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55I'd really love to see them spend about ?200.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58So, we've really got to start spending! We have. Let's do it.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00It's not normally a problem with me.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03You always give... You're straight into there - impulsive.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06Just take a step back. I will. Let me do the talking for a minute.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08Go on, then. Right, OK, let's go. Are you ready?

0:18:08 > 0:18:09Yeah. Let's go.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12While the Blues go off for some impulsive spending,

0:18:12 > 0:18:15are things clearer for the Reds? Time is running out.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18We've got one item. Well, shall we go and get them cuff links first?

0:18:18 > 0:18:22It's your shout. Let's go get the cuff links. You think so?

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Right, do you remember where they were? Yeah. Right over there.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27Leg it! Let's go. Leg it!

0:18:27 > 0:18:30They're feeling the pressure, so it's back to the cuff links

0:18:30 > 0:18:33they saw earlier. But has someone else snapped them up?

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Are they still here, mate? They are. The cuff links we were

0:18:36 > 0:18:38looking at before? They are. Oh, fab.

0:18:38 > 0:18:40Right. What is your very best price on that?

0:18:40 > 0:18:43Best price is 24. 24 quid.

0:18:43 > 0:18:4724. Yeah, we'll have it. OK. 24. 24, it is. 24. Great!

0:18:47 > 0:18:50Great! Second buy bought.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52Will you do me a favour? Yeah?

0:18:52 > 0:18:54Will you be as decisive on the third one?

0:18:54 > 0:18:56Yeah. Good! Come on, then! We'll have to be.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58The Reds have turned a corner.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01Where do you want to be now? Outside. Outside? Yeah.

0:19:01 > 0:19:02That's a definite? Definite. Right.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05And now, they're using words like definite!

0:19:05 > 0:19:06That's great.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10Both teams have one item to find and it looks like the Blues

0:19:10 > 0:19:12are having a sit down.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14They don't work.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16But it's got the chain and everything on.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19I know why they don't work. They are novelty!

0:19:19 > 0:19:23Well, I thought you could exercise while having a drink.

0:19:23 > 0:19:27Yeah, well, it is the best of both worlds, really, isn't it?

0:19:27 > 0:19:29Sitting on your bar stool, having a little pedal.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32I just think there's bars, restaurants...

0:19:32 > 0:19:36I think they are a nice thing and they are unusual.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39I like them. They're really nice. I think they are reproduction.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41I think they are made to look old. Yes. How much are they?

0:19:41 > 0:19:4395 quid each. Each? Mm.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46And what can the lady do them for? Have you asked? Don't know yet.

0:19:46 > 0:19:49Well, OK, here's the plan, right. You have a word with the lady.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51See what the best you can get them for is.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54Don't agree to buy them yet... OK. ..and I'll go and have

0:19:54 > 0:19:54a quick whizz round.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58That sounds like a good plan.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00And while Phil gently whizzes around,

0:20:00 > 0:20:04how are the definite Reds getting on?

0:20:04 > 0:20:08A giant Chinese fan! Ooh! Hm. We could all do with a fan.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10That looks all right.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12What do you reckon? Well, we'll wait and see.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16Wow. That's pretty decorative, isn't it?

0:20:16 > 0:20:19Yeah. I mean, that would look pretty good somewhere, wouldn't it?

0:20:19 > 0:20:23Yeah. I'm a big fan of that, as well. Big fan of it. Boom-boom!

0:20:23 > 0:20:27Right, joking aside, we are down almost to the wire.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31Yeah. OK. So, is that any good for you, for your third item?

0:20:31 > 0:20:32Well, it's a SAW point. What?

0:20:32 > 0:20:35Oh! Come on! Be serious!

0:20:35 > 0:20:37Do you fancy this fan or not?

0:20:37 > 0:20:39Not for me. No. Not for you?

0:20:39 > 0:20:41No, definitely not. So, no from us all.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43Let's leg it!

0:20:43 > 0:20:47Well, they ARE being definite, but that's a definite no.

0:20:47 > 0:20:49Maybe a light jog will help.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55But what's the news on those bar stools?

0:20:55 > 0:20:57How have you got on, then? 150 for the pair?

0:20:57 > 0:21:0275 each. What I think you should do is ask them to keep them for you

0:21:02 > 0:21:04and let's go outside, because we haven't been there. No.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06See if we can see something out there that you really, really love.

0:21:06 > 0:21:10Yeah. And if you do, brilliant. Yeah. And if you don't,

0:21:10 > 0:21:12you've got those put by. The Blues are following their heart,

0:21:12 > 0:21:15but they need to make a profit.

0:21:15 > 0:21:17Maybe something can tempt them outside?

0:21:17 > 0:21:20You are not allowed to see those hedgehogs, whatever you do.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23OK? No, those are just remarkably awful, aren't they?

0:21:23 > 0:21:25She'll look at them - "Oh, they're really cute!"

0:21:25 > 0:21:27Hi, guys! How you doing, all right?

0:21:27 > 0:21:29Come this, this way. Don't look over there.

0:21:29 > 0:21:31Nothing of any interest. How are you? Oh, yeah, fine. Good.

0:21:31 > 0:21:35Nothing at all. I'm just having a look for something, you know,

0:21:35 > 0:21:36really unusual and...

0:21:36 > 0:21:39There's nothing of any interest there. Just carry on walking.

0:21:39 > 0:21:42That's a hedgehog! No, it's not. Oh!

0:21:42 > 0:21:45Oh, I've got to have a look at this!

0:21:45 > 0:21:49Nice try, guys, but this girl can spot a hedgehog at 50 paces.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51Oh, that's a curly one!

0:21:51 > 0:21:54They're awful. I've never seen a curly hedgehog, though.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56Curly. Curly. Curly!

0:21:56 > 0:21:58No. Oh, that's dead cute.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01But you've got your work cut out there, Phil!

0:22:01 > 0:22:04And have the Reds found anything yet?

0:22:05 > 0:22:09Is that like a ukulele, Dave? Are you into ukuleles? Dave is. No.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12Oh, dear. Still browsing. Are you denying it, Dave?

0:22:12 > 0:22:14I'm denying it and having nothing to do with it.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17So, do the Blues have a plan of action?

0:22:17 > 0:22:20We've got about five minutes left. Is it stools or not stools?

0:22:20 > 0:22:23Stools. Stools. Definitely? Definitely stools. Definitely?

0:22:23 > 0:22:26Bar stools. Let's get those stools. Go on, then. Off you go. Off you go.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Now, have they managed to buy those bar stools?

0:22:33 > 0:22:35How did we got on? Good.

0:22:35 > 0:22:36Really pleased. How much?

0:22:36 > 0:22:40145, for the pair. Yeah, I think that's OK. I like them.

0:22:40 > 0:22:44I have never seen anything like them before, so couldn't put a price

0:22:44 > 0:22:47on them. You need two people to really take a shine to them

0:22:47 > 0:22:52at the auction. Yeah. And if they don't, we might be backpedalling.

0:22:52 > 0:22:54Yeah, OK.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57So, with just minutes to spare, the Blues have done it.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59Item three is secured and they can just relax.

0:22:59 > 0:23:03But no such luck for the Reds. They're still running!

0:23:03 > 0:23:06Right, come on. We've got less than four minutes left.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10What's that? What is that? That is a Bible.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14Not the best sellers. We're going down, we need to find something.

0:23:14 > 0:23:18Here! This. What? What's this? That is a papier mache writing box.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22It's a fantastic writing slope. Lift the lid. Mid-Victorian.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25Let's have it. Right. Let's have it. Have a look at it.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28Another one that leapt out? Another one that leapt out.

0:23:28 > 0:23:28Jumped out at us.

0:23:28 > 0:23:32Mid-19th century, papier mache, lacquer, silk velvet lining,

0:23:32 > 0:23:36pen tray here. You'd have ink wells either side.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39You've got mother-of-pearl inlaid here, to give you

0:23:39 > 0:23:42the impression of light coming through,

0:23:42 > 0:23:44which obviously worked, because it caught your eye.

0:23:44 > 0:23:45Caught my eye. It's great.

0:23:45 > 0:23:48It's a decorative piece. It is a decorative piece.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52What's the price? Eeh! 185. Vastly overpriced, for nowadays.

0:23:52 > 0:23:56They used to be a lot more money. 145, maybe?

0:23:56 > 0:23:58We'll see, but you need to do it and you need to do it now.

0:23:58 > 0:24:01Right. We need to shout the seller over, then.

0:24:01 > 0:24:02What's the best you can do?

0:24:02 > 0:24:04We've got three minutes and counting.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Yes. Um, 150 would be the very, very best.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11150? Yeah? Well, I reckon, if we offered 145?

0:24:13 > 0:24:16Um, yes, go on, then. 145.

0:24:16 > 0:24:17Oh, my goodness!

0:24:17 > 0:24:20How many minutes?! What were you stressing about?

0:24:20 > 0:24:23Brilliant, cheers. Thank you. Wow. Thank you very much.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26Wow. Amazing. How stressful was that?

0:24:26 > 0:24:27DING

0:24:27 > 0:24:30That's it, teams. Time's up.

0:24:30 > 0:24:32You owe me a cup of tea. Come on.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34Don't know what you were worrying about. What?!

0:24:34 > 0:24:37Let's have a look at what the Reds bought.

0:24:38 > 0:24:42It was shabby and chic. The miniature chest of drawers cost ?21.

0:24:44 > 0:24:48The retro 1960s cuff links set them back ?24.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53And can the last-minute buy, the writing slope,

0:24:53 > 0:24:56attract those bidders? It was ?145.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01Well, boys, you were very energetic at the end.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Left things a wee bit to the last minute?

0:25:03 > 0:25:05Yes, just a bit.

0:25:05 > 0:25:07But did you have a good time?

0:25:07 > 0:25:09Yes, definitely. We had a laugh. You enjoyed it?

0:25:09 > 0:25:11We did, yeah. What was your favourite item?

0:25:11 > 0:25:14I think the cuff links were probably the favourite item.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16How about you? I think the writing desk did it for me.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18Mother-of-pearl ingrained.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20I think that's got something about it.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23Something different. What's going to make the most profit?

0:25:23 > 0:25:26Maybe the cuff links, to be honest.

0:25:26 > 0:25:27Do you agree with that? I do.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29I think the cuff links will make the most money. OK, boys,

0:25:29 > 0:25:31how much did you spend?

0:25:31 > 0:25:32?190.

0:25:32 > 0:25:35Well, that's not too bad.

0:25:35 > 0:25:37?110, please.

0:25:38 > 0:25:40All right. We'll hand that over.

0:25:40 > 0:25:43Thank you. Now what are you going to buy

0:25:43 > 0:25:45for these discerning gentlemen?

0:25:45 > 0:25:47So it's really going to be difficult

0:25:47 > 0:25:49finding something to please you two guys

0:25:49 > 0:25:52but I'm going to try, but it's a big ask.

0:25:52 > 0:25:57Well, while Caroline goes round the fair yet again,

0:25:57 > 0:26:00we'll go and have a look at what the Blues have bought.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03Can the milk pail yield any cash?

0:26:03 > 0:26:06It cost a mere ?15.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10Will the Arts and Crafts wall light shine bright at the auction?

0:26:10 > 0:26:12It was ?22.

0:26:14 > 0:26:18And can they ride into profit with these industrial bar stools?

0:26:18 > 0:26:21They were ?145.

0:26:21 > 0:26:23Well, guys, did you have a lovely time?

0:26:23 > 0:26:26Oh, absolutely enjoyed it so much.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28Loved it. Terrific.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31You started off a wee bit conservatively

0:26:31 > 0:26:33and then you went for bust.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35We did. What's your favourite item?

0:26:35 > 0:26:39Well, I loved the bar stools with the pedal cycles.

0:26:39 > 0:26:40I just think they're gorgeous.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43But are they going to make the most profit?

0:26:43 > 0:26:45Well, I think they're quite unique,

0:26:45 > 0:26:48so if we get a couple of people wanting them, I think yes.

0:26:48 > 0:26:49So what was your favourite item?

0:26:49 > 0:26:52Mine was the barrel, because my surname's Cooper.

0:26:52 > 0:26:54What will make the most profit?

0:26:54 > 0:26:55I think the barrel. The barrel?

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Yes. How much money did you spend?

0:26:58 > 0:27:00We spent ?182.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03Well, that's not bad, not bad at all. Not too bad.

0:27:03 > 0:27:08So you will be giving me ?118...

0:27:08 > 0:27:10We will. There you go.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13Thank you. ..which I will hand over to Phil.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16There you are, Phil. What are you going to spend all that money on?

0:27:16 > 0:27:18I think we might have a problem with the old bar stools

0:27:18 > 0:27:22so I'm going to find something that might dig us out of trouble.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25So while Phil goes and looks for a bit of treasure,

0:27:25 > 0:27:26we're off to the auction.

0:27:36 > 0:27:40Today we're in the lovely market town of Nantwich

0:27:40 > 0:27:45at Peter Wilson Auctioneers with our auctioneer today, Robert Stones.

0:27:45 > 0:27:47Nice to see you, Anita. It's lovely to be here.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50Now, let's look at our teams' objects.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53For our Red Team, Jason and David,

0:27:53 > 0:27:58their first item was this miniature chest.

0:27:58 > 0:27:59Hand-painted.

0:27:59 > 0:28:01Tell me what you think of it.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04The thing about these is, that is not great quality,

0:28:04 > 0:28:06but people love them.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09And they love having them just to keep little collector things in,

0:28:09 > 0:28:11so these are always popular.

0:28:11 > 0:28:13Would you call that shabby chic

0:28:13 > 0:28:17and do the good people of Nantwich like shabby chic?

0:28:17 > 0:28:20Fashionable, isn't it, shabby chic? Fashionable. Very fashionable.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23Yeah, but it's definitely not what might be called an apprentice piece

0:28:23 > 0:28:26because the quality isn't there. It's not there.

0:28:26 > 0:28:28What's your estimate on this little chest?

0:28:28 > 0:28:30We thought about ?10-?20 on that.

0:28:30 > 0:28:35They've paid ?21, so we might get there.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38All good things come in guineas, Anita, we know that.

0:28:38 > 0:28:40THEY LAUGH Terrific.

0:28:40 > 0:28:42Jason and David's second item

0:28:42 > 0:28:46is this very fashionable pair of cuff links.

0:28:46 > 0:28:47Tell me what you think.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50They are very collectable, no doubt about it.

0:28:50 > 0:28:52Silver, that's a big bonus.

0:28:52 > 0:28:53They're not worth a lot

0:28:53 > 0:28:56but, because they're silver, that obviously is added value

0:28:56 > 0:28:58and again ?10-?20 on those.

0:28:58 > 0:29:0110 to 20? Well, they paid 24.

0:29:01 > 0:29:04Did they? OK. Again we're getting there.

0:29:04 > 0:29:09Their third item was the papier mache writing desk.

0:29:09 > 0:29:11Tell me what you think about that.

0:29:11 > 0:29:14I think it's a shame that the picture panel on the front of it

0:29:14 > 0:29:15isn't a little bit better,

0:29:15 > 0:29:18because that really would have put some money on it.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21It's got that little bit of peeling, there.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23But papier mache is good stuff

0:29:23 > 0:29:25and people shouldn't be shy of buying it.

0:29:25 > 0:29:27I know black is not fashionable,

0:29:27 > 0:29:30but quite honestly, that's a really good thing.

0:29:30 > 0:29:31I like that a lot.

0:29:31 > 0:29:34It's the sort of thing that quite honestly is slightly underrated

0:29:34 > 0:29:37and should be bought to be collected, cos it's a good thing.

0:29:37 > 0:29:39Tell me your estimate on this.

0:29:39 > 0:29:40We've put 80 to 100 on that.

0:29:40 > 0:29:4280 to 100.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44Well, they paid 145 for it.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47They were a wee bit rushed at the end.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51It might have been a panic buy, but it's still a good thing.

0:29:51 > 0:29:56I hope it does well for them, and if it makes ?150, well, good on them.

0:29:56 > 0:29:59So a mixed bag, here.

0:29:59 > 0:30:02Yep. They may need their bonus buy... They could.

0:30:02 > 0:30:03..so let's go and have a look at it.

0:30:05 > 0:30:11Jason, David, you left Caroline ?110.

0:30:11 > 0:30:14Caroline, what did you buy?

0:30:14 > 0:30:17Well, it was going to be difficult pleasing you two

0:30:17 > 0:30:19but I hope I have.

0:30:21 > 0:30:23Wow. Mm, yeah.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26Yeah...that's small. You could get a few apples on that.

0:30:26 > 0:30:29One orange on the top of that. Exactly!

0:30:29 > 0:30:31It's small but beautifully formed.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34It's a little solid silver tazza,

0:30:34 > 0:30:36or bonbon dish.

0:30:36 > 0:30:39The marks are slightly rubbed,

0:30:39 > 0:30:41cos silver is a very, very soft metal,

0:30:41 > 0:30:46but I imagine that dates from the Edwardian period - 1900, 1910.

0:30:46 > 0:30:48Right. OK. I think that's gorgeous.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50And how much did that cost?

0:30:50 > 0:30:52How much did you pay for that? How much do you think it cost?

0:30:52 > 0:30:53I think that'd cost...

0:30:53 > 0:30:5630 quid. ?50. 50? Yeah. 30?

0:30:56 > 0:30:58?15.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01One five.

0:31:01 > 0:31:0315! I've obviously got an eye for this.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06You have. And what do you think it will make at auction?

0:31:06 > 0:31:07It's got to make ?25 or ?30.

0:31:07 > 0:31:09Right, OK.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13You don't have to make up your mind just now.

0:31:13 > 0:31:17Wait until your first three items have been sold.

0:31:17 > 0:31:21But right now, we're going to find out if the auctioneer thinks

0:31:21 > 0:31:25that Caroline's bonbon dish is a little sweetie.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29What do you think? Quite small, isn't it?

0:31:29 > 0:31:30THEY LAUGH

0:31:30 > 0:31:32It's wee!

0:31:32 > 0:31:34But it's nice enough, isn't it?

0:31:34 > 0:31:35There's nothing wrong with it at all,

0:31:35 > 0:31:38I'd just have liked it to have been a bit bigger.

0:31:38 > 0:31:39I've not put a lot of money on it for that reason -

0:31:39 > 0:31:41I've sort of said 15-25.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44What did she pay for it? ?15.

0:31:44 > 0:31:46Great buy! Yeah, I think that's terrific.

0:31:46 > 0:31:50So, let's look at our Blue team, Lesley and Lee.

0:31:50 > 0:31:54Their first item is this oak bowl with the silver-plated mounts -

0:31:54 > 0:31:56what do you think of that, Robert?

0:31:56 > 0:31:58Well, it's like a milk pail, isn't it?

0:31:58 > 0:32:00Of course, very much a farming community around here, Anita.

0:32:00 > 0:32:03Oh, right. So, milk pails, all this sort of thing,

0:32:03 > 0:32:06it's very much in the minds of people around here.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08I quite like this, I think the shape of it's rather good.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10It's nice. I don't mind that at all.

0:32:10 > 0:32:11Estimate, Robert?

0:32:11 > 0:32:13I've said 20-40 for that.

0:32:13 > 0:32:16Excellent, they only paid ?15.

0:32:16 > 0:32:18Really? Yes - I think they've done well, there.

0:32:18 > 0:32:20I think they're all right on that.

0:32:20 > 0:32:24Their second item was this Arts and Crafts wall lamp -

0:32:24 > 0:32:25do you like this item?

0:32:25 > 0:32:28Very fond of Arts and Crafts, it's in good condition -

0:32:28 > 0:32:30which is all-important.

0:32:30 > 0:32:32I'd have that in my house no trouble at all, yep.

0:32:32 > 0:32:34Your estimate on this?

0:32:34 > 0:32:35I've put 30-60 on that.

0:32:35 > 0:32:40Well, that's excellent, because they only paid ?22.

0:32:40 > 0:32:41I wish I'd bought it!

0:32:43 > 0:32:48Going on to our third item - Lesley loved these...

0:32:48 > 0:32:51Industrial design is very fashionable at the moment, isn't it?

0:32:51 > 0:32:52I'm sure you know that.

0:32:52 > 0:32:55I quite like these, actually, because they're fashionable,

0:32:55 > 0:32:56as much as anything.

0:32:56 > 0:32:59And I thought these might make ?50-?100.

0:32:59 > 0:33:0050-100.

0:33:00 > 0:33:06Well, they paid ?145, which is quite a lot of money.

0:33:06 > 0:33:09Yeah. We've had some of the viewing during the course of today,

0:33:09 > 0:33:12and there's been a lot of interest in these.

0:33:12 > 0:33:13So, we'll see what happens.

0:33:13 > 0:33:15They have been well-fancied?

0:33:15 > 0:33:19They have. And that might be a come-and-buy-me estimate.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21Well, let's hope so, for their sake, eh?

0:33:21 > 0:33:24Yeah. Well, not too bad at all.

0:33:24 > 0:33:28They may or may not need their bonus buy.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31But we're going to go and have a look at it anyway.

0:33:31 > 0:33:33Lesley, Lesley!

0:33:33 > 0:33:35Lovely to see you, but where is Lee?

0:33:35 > 0:33:40Oh, it's such a shame, he's had to work today so it's just me today.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42All right, well, you'll have to make all the decisions.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45I will! And I'm sure you'll be very good!

0:33:45 > 0:33:49You left Phil with ?118.

0:33:49 > 0:33:52Phil, what did you spend the money on?

0:33:52 > 0:33:53This...

0:33:53 > 0:33:56is a bit like me, really, because this is yesterday's taste.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00Great quality, great item, Georgian oak corner cupboard.

0:34:00 > 0:34:01Oh, I love that.

0:34:01 > 0:34:03Really? Oh, I really do.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05I love the marbling in the wood.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08It's lovely. That's half the battle, isn't it?

0:34:08 > 0:34:10Thank you. It cost me ?60.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12In an ideal world, it should make 80-120,

0:34:12 > 0:34:14but don't be surprised if it makes 40.

0:34:14 > 0:34:16You've got to find somebody that wants one.

0:34:16 > 0:34:19You don't have to make up your mind at the moment -

0:34:19 > 0:34:21wait until your first three items have been sold.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23But right now, we're going to find out

0:34:23 > 0:34:27if the auctioneer thinks that Philip's cabinet

0:34:27 > 0:34:28will corner a profit.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34Robert, Philip loves his furniture - what do you think of this piece?

0:34:34 > 0:34:36This is a fabulous piece of furniture.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38Lovely arch pediment.

0:34:38 > 0:34:39The big thing about this is,

0:34:39 > 0:34:41if I can just open the door, Anita...

0:34:44 > 0:34:46It's got the original key, the original lock -

0:34:46 > 0:34:48and that paintwork is also original.

0:34:48 > 0:34:49And that's what I love.

0:34:49 > 0:34:52And an honest piece of country furniture.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55Exactly. What's your estimate on the corner cupboard?

0:34:55 > 0:34:5950-80, Anita. Philip only paid ?60, so...

0:34:59 > 0:35:02A bargain, really, but it is a sign of the times.

0:35:02 > 0:35:04I think this stuff is really worthwhile buying,

0:35:04 > 0:35:07so let's hope we can do some good with this.

0:35:07 > 0:35:10And you're our auctioneer today? I am. Terrific!

0:35:16 > 0:35:18Are you excited, boys?

0:35:18 > 0:35:22Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't know whether to stand up or sit down!

0:35:22 > 0:35:25It's great fun. Now, have you been to an auction before?

0:35:25 > 0:35:28No, we've not, no. This is the first time for me, too.

0:35:28 > 0:35:33Well, your first item is that little shabby chic chest.

0:35:33 > 0:35:35You only paid ?21 for that.

0:35:35 > 0:35:37Yep. Are you happy with that?

0:35:37 > 0:35:39Oh, definitely. Are you going to make a profit on that?

0:35:39 > 0:35:42Definitely. Well, fingers crossed, because it's coming up right now!

0:35:42 > 0:35:43OK!

0:35:43 > 0:35:44The miniature chest of drawers -

0:35:44 > 0:35:46nice thing here, good collector's item.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49?10. ?10, 15 anywhere now do I hear?

0:35:49 > 0:35:51At ?10, only, the bid is in the middle of the room.

0:35:51 > 0:35:53At ?10 only, at 10...

0:35:53 > 0:35:55At ?10 only, being sold at 10...

0:35:55 > 0:35:57Your bid, ?10!

0:35:57 > 0:35:59No! You're joking! Oh!

0:35:59 > 0:36:00Yes! Boys!

0:36:00 > 0:36:03?10!

0:36:03 > 0:36:04And that was our best buy, I think!

0:36:04 > 0:36:06I thought it was, yeah.

0:36:06 > 0:36:10But your next item might pull you right back up again.

0:36:10 > 0:36:13It's those wonderful silver cuff links,

0:36:13 > 0:36:15and you only paid ?24 for it.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17Super cuff links here - what may we say on these?

0:36:29 > 0:36:31?20, your bid, ?20.

0:36:31 > 0:36:32I don't know how you do it, Jase!

0:36:32 > 0:36:36Don't know you do it! ?20!

0:36:36 > 0:36:38That's -4!

0:36:38 > 0:36:40A wee bit unlucky there, boys.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42And that takes you to -15.

0:36:42 > 0:36:46We've got your big-ticket item coming up, boys!

0:36:46 > 0:36:49What you bought was that wonderful writing desk.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52You paid ?145. Quality, that.

0:36:52 > 0:36:55Oh, it is a quality item. It might pull you out a hole.
