0:00:02 > 0:00:03BRASS BAND PLAYS 'We're in Devon today

0:00:03 > 0:00:05'for an antiques fair at the Westpoint Arena,'

0:00:05 > 0:00:08which is why I'm proudly marching with the flag of Devon.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12The design was chosen by local people

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and officially adopted in 2006.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18But I'll be pledging allegiance to another flag today.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22Let's go Bargain Hunting.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49So, the Bargain Hunt colours are flying proudly here in Devon.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54Here's hoping that our Red and Blue teams don't flag today.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Let's take a look at what's in store.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01The search for antiques becomes painful for the Reds.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02What price is on it?

0:01:02 > 0:01:05- 145.- Ouch!

0:01:06 > 0:01:10And the Blues find out Bargain Hunting can be heartbreaking.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Oh, team, a bit of bad news.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13- BOTH:- Oh.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17But our teams are all smiles down at the auction.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18THEY CHEER

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Ohh!

0:01:21 > 0:01:23But that's all coming up later on.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24For now, it's time to meet the teams

0:01:24 > 0:01:27and we're keeping it in the family on Bargain Hunt today.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29For the Reds we have sisters Sue and Rachel

0:01:29 > 0:01:33and for the Blues we have married couple Sue and Barry.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34- Hello, everyone. ALL:- Hello.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37So, we'll start with you, Reds, and straight to you, Rachel.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Now, tell me, you both love art

0:01:39 > 0:01:43- but that was directly involved in your career, wasn't it?- It was.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45I worked at Sidmouth College

0:01:45 > 0:01:48as an art technician in the art department,

0:01:48 > 0:01:49which was really lovely.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52OK, so you say "worked" past tense, so you're now retired?

0:01:52 > 0:01:54I've finished, yes.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57- "I completed it!"- I've definitely finished for the time being.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59- Definitely. Yes. - OK, so what you do now?

0:01:59 > 0:02:02I still spend a lot of time painting, which I really enjoy.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04What's your subject matter?

0:02:04 > 0:02:06At the moment, it's mostly cows.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08- Oh, really?- Yeah.- OK.

0:02:08 > 0:02:13We have a field that is right next to our house that has lots of cows.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15- Mm-hmm.- So there's lots and lots that I can use

0:02:15 > 0:02:17for drawing material from that.

0:02:17 > 0:02:18So, Sue, art must run in the family

0:02:18 > 0:02:22- because you are a professional artist, aren't you?- Yeah.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26The last seven years I've spent painting full-time.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Now, it must be fantastic to work as an artist

0:02:28 > 0:02:30because not only do you get to set your own hours

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and paint what you love,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34but you also get to mingle in high circles sometimes,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36because I believe you have a famous collector?

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Well, the...

0:02:38 > 0:02:44the director of Absolutely Fabulous bought an original

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and then bought a print

0:02:46 > 0:02:49as a birthday present for Jennifer Saunders.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52- Oh, how cool is that?! - Yeah. That is cool, yes.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54It would have been nice to meet her, wouldn't it?

0:02:54 > 0:02:56It would have been nice to have met her, yes.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59- Yes.- So, tell me, do you think you're going to work well as a team?

0:02:59 > 0:03:01- I think we would.- Yes.- Yeah.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03- Yes, I think we would. - Yeah.- Time will tell.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Time will tell.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07- Yes.- Yes.- I'll leave you to mull that over,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09I'm going to turn to the Blues.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13So, Barry, I'd love to hear how you and Sue met.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16We met at a drop-in centre, which was run by a local church.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Sue used to come regular and always had

0:03:19 > 0:03:23what seemed like a herd of children and it actually turned out,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25when I sort of delved a little bit further,

0:03:25 > 0:03:29she was actually a foster parent and childminder.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33So she actually only had three children.

0:03:33 > 0:03:34- More manageable.- More manageable.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Except when we did finally get together,

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Sue found out that I had five children.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44OK, so we're on eight at the moment.

0:03:44 > 0:03:45That's right, yes.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47Yes, we had eight and that's expanded now

0:03:47 > 0:03:50because we've also got ten grandchildren.

0:03:50 > 0:03:51Tell me, how on earth

0:03:51 > 0:03:54do you keep all of these children and grandchildren in check?

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Do you have any special tricks up your sleeve?

0:03:56 > 0:04:02A few. One, I love repairing things, absolutely love repairing,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05and the children think I can repair anything.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08So every time we see them it is, "Grandad, can you repair this?"

0:04:08 > 0:04:10And your love of repairing things and mending things

0:04:10 > 0:04:12comes from your career as a carpenter?

0:04:12 > 0:04:13That's how it started, yes,

0:04:13 > 0:04:17then I got into electronics for a friend, so combining the two, yeah,

0:04:17 > 0:04:19I'll have a go at most things.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22So, Sue, tell me about your life as a foster parent.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25I was a foster parent for over 30 years.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27And I loved it.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29It was the best thing in my life, really.

0:04:29 > 0:04:34Because I got such a joy from having, well, over 100 kids, really.

0:04:34 > 0:04:35Really, over 100?

0:04:35 > 0:04:38Yeah. Well, over 30 years, you see.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Most of the time I'd have them for two or three years

0:04:40 > 0:04:42before they either moved on,

0:04:42 > 0:04:46back to their families or on to adoption.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50So tell me about your time as a team on Bargain Hunt.

0:04:50 > 0:04:51How do you think it's going to go?

0:04:51 > 0:04:54I think we work really well together and I think the main reason

0:04:54 > 0:04:56is we've got different ideas and different views.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59And we're good at talking about things, aren't we?

0:04:59 > 0:05:01And sort of advising and helping each other, so...

0:05:01 > 0:05:02- Yeah.- I'm hopeful.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05Well, it sounds like you've got some tactics and that's one thing,

0:05:05 > 0:05:07but cold, hard cash is another.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10So, let me give £300 to you, Reds,

0:05:10 > 0:05:14and £300, just to be fair, to you, Blues.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16- Thank you.- Your experts can't wait to meet you, so off you go.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19- Get in amongst it.- Thank you. - Thank you very much.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21Well, it's happy families for now.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Let's see if that's still the case at the end of the show.

0:05:24 > 0:05:28So, our teams are raring to go and so are their experts.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31Tending to the Reds, it's Danny Sebastian.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37And keeping an eye on those Blues, it's Gary Pe.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39What are we looking for today, Sue?

0:05:39 > 0:05:44Oh, something that's really beautifully made, handcrafted.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46What are we going for today?

0:05:46 > 0:05:49- Something retro, maybe, or... - OK, retro.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51- Walking sticks. - Yeah, I like a good walking stick.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54It would be lovely to find something that's rustic.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56Maybe Chinese, if it's within our price range.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00- Well, there we go.- Yeah, lovely face. Arts and Crafts?

0:06:00 > 0:06:01Arts and Crafts.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04Stand by, teams, your 60 minutes start now.

0:06:05 > 0:06:06- Let's get started.- OK.

0:06:06 > 0:06:0960 minutes, it does seem like a really long time,

0:06:09 > 0:06:10but when you're searching,

0:06:10 > 0:06:13you'll be really surprised how quick that 60 minutes goes.

0:06:13 > 0:06:18Well, don't stand around chatting, Danny, sniff out those bargains!

0:06:18 > 0:06:21If anything grabs your attention, just point it out.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25What are you thinking, ladies? I'm getting...

0:06:25 > 0:06:27You're getting me all worried, Rachel!

0:06:27 > 0:06:29You've gone quiet on me.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32I have. There's so much to take in and have a look at.

0:06:32 > 0:06:34The thing is not to panic.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37- Arts and Crafts.- Yes.

0:06:39 > 0:06:40I like this.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44- Pewter, is it?- Yes, it's lovely.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47I love it because it's got the blue stone on the front.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51Yes, this sort of cabochon, it's almost Ruskin ceramics.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53- Yes, it's lovely. - Is there a date on it?

0:06:53 > 0:06:56Well, that would be about 1900, 1910.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00And it's from Sheffield.

0:07:00 > 0:07:01Craftsmen pewter.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03But at 145, that's overpriced.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Yes, OK, bit too rich.

0:07:06 > 0:07:08I think we can find something else.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11That's the way, Blues, be decisive.

0:07:11 > 0:07:12That goes for you, too, Reds.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16- Walking sticks.- Oh, yes.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19There's a couple of nice little ones down here.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21They're rather sweet.

0:07:21 > 0:07:22- That's a crop.- Yes.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24No, not sure about those.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29If you're not sure, move on. There's plenty to see.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Those pretty little tables? Or is that...?

0:07:33 > 0:07:36They're sort of stools, aren't they?

0:07:36 > 0:07:38Yeah, they're cute, those, I like those.

0:07:39 > 0:07:40125.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42Still quite expensive, isn't it?

0:07:43 > 0:07:45For what? It's got dual purpose, I suppose.

0:07:45 > 0:07:47You could even put a plant on it.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49- But, then...- Yeah, they're very...

0:07:49 > 0:07:52- But then you'd lose the pattern.- Yes.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54- Which is what it is all about. - Exactly.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56So, it's a no to the stools.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58Back to the Reds.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00The hare is so beautiful!

0:08:00 > 0:08:05- It looks like a bit of bronze to me. - Right.

0:08:05 > 0:08:10Yeah, I do find that, really, at £295, it's all its money, really.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13We could ask the vendor what's the best price he's going to give us.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16Who knows? We might be lucky. If you really like the piece.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18I think it's worth asking.

0:08:18 > 0:08:19- OK.- We could try.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22We really love your hare.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25- Yes, I can understand that. - It's very beautiful.- It is.

0:08:25 > 0:08:26And we were just wondering

0:08:26 > 0:08:30what sort of price you could think of doing, your very lowest price?

0:08:30 > 0:08:31What if I said 250?

0:08:32 > 0:08:34I don't think we can afford that.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37- Let's bear it in mind. - Yes.- We'll have a think.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I know you've got a thing for animals, ladies,

0:08:40 > 0:08:42but you're right to put the hare on the back burner.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45That's a lot of cash to spend early on.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48Now, how are the Blues doing with their shopping list?

0:08:48 > 0:08:50Well, it's a bit of Arts and Crafts for you.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54Not as elaborate as some Arts and Crafts pieces would be.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58- No, very basic.- But still, that's the whole principle, though,

0:08:58 > 0:09:02of Arts and Crafts. You know, keep it simple, show the construction.

0:09:02 > 0:09:03Yes.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06And this is obviously handmade.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09And it's got something military inside the frame.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Royal Air Force in it, I can see.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Yes, which didn't belong to the frame originally.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17- But still, that could add to the value.- Could that be removed,

0:09:17 > 0:09:20so you've got that and you could put something else in there?

0:09:20 > 0:09:22- You can, exactly.- Possibility.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24No reason not to sell it together.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26What are we talking about here?

0:09:28 > 0:09:3065?

0:09:30 > 0:09:32The best I could do is 55.

0:09:32 > 0:09:33- 55?- Hm.- 45?

0:09:36 > 0:09:38I'll split the difference, 50.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43- 49.- I ain't going to cry over a pound.

0:09:45 > 0:09:46- BARRY:- I think it's worth a try

0:09:46 > 0:09:48because you've got two things there.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50Yeah, Arts and Crafts and the military.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53- Yeah?- I think we've got our first buy.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55- That's it.- Well done.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Thank you very much.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Two for the price of one. I like it! And so does Gary.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05So, team, first buy of the day, two to go, let's find those two items.

0:10:05 > 0:10:06- Lovely.- OK.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09You've got 50 minutes to do it in.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11Now, what have the Reds been drawn to?

0:10:11 > 0:10:14Anything at all you see you like? There's some lovely bits here.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Those are very pretty, over there.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19- The drawers?- Yes.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22- They're a nice-looking set, they are.- Yes.

0:10:22 > 0:10:23I mean, what price is on it?

0:10:23 > 0:10:25- 145.- Ouch!

0:10:27 > 0:10:29- What do you think? - I think it's lovely.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32I think it would be much more acceptable

0:10:32 > 0:10:35if it was less money, naturally, but we'd be...

0:10:35 > 0:10:39- And what does Sue think? - I think that's too...

0:10:39 > 0:10:43- I think it's a lot of money. - Yes, too much money, really.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Have we got a couple of penny-pinchers here?

0:10:46 > 0:10:48They seem to be hanging on tightly to their £300.

0:10:48 > 0:10:53Meanwhile, the Blues have £250 to spend on their next two items.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59You wanted a bit of Chinese, what do you think of these nesting tables?

0:10:59 > 0:11:01- Very exciting. - Oh, they're Chinese, are they?

0:11:01 > 0:11:04Yes, they are. They could be used as stands.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06Yes.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08They could be used as side tables.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10- Yes.- What are they made of, do you think?

0:11:10 > 0:11:14They're made of a local Chinese wood, probably huanghuali.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16Oh, what's...? I've never heard of huanghuali.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18It's sort of an oriental type of tree.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22You can see how well these have been carved.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23- The shape, yes, lovely.- By hand.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27But in this area, what are we looking at, sort of price-wise?

0:11:28 > 0:11:31I would have put them at 50 to 70.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34I would like to see that as an auction estimate, yes.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37We need to find the dealer and see how...

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Let's have a look. Shall I do that?

0:11:40 > 0:11:43- Yes, if you would.- Shall I go and see what the dealer has to say?

0:11:43 > 0:11:47- OK.- Good luck, Gary! We'll come back to you in a bit.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51I will find something, but we'll have to move on pretty quickly.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53- Oh!- Oh!- What have you seen?

0:11:55 > 0:11:57- We like!- It is a bit quackers, that, isn't it?

0:11:59 > 0:12:00We like him.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02He's smiling. And what's the price on the ticket?

0:12:02 > 0:12:04The price is 32.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06- 32?- It's hazel.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09- What is that? So it's hazel wood. - It's carved from a piece of hazel.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11You can see that it's been manufactured

0:12:11 > 0:12:15and then obviously the hazel wood's the stem, the stick itself.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17I mean, the top, not really sure,

0:12:17 > 0:12:20it could have even come off something else, a wooden duck,

0:12:20 > 0:12:22that's probably broken or got damaged,

0:12:22 > 0:12:24and they just took the head off and made it, you know,

0:12:24 > 0:12:25people are sort of upcycling

0:12:25 > 0:12:28and making things great these days out of nothing.

0:12:28 > 0:12:29So he may not be very old.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32The head might not be very old, no,

0:12:32 > 0:12:34but I don't think it comes with age with a walking stick.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36You know, if somebody really likes ducks,

0:12:36 > 0:12:39or if somebody's quite country, you know, if it's the right size.

0:12:39 > 0:12:44How tall...? Gosh, you've got to be tall!

0:12:44 > 0:12:49Hold on a minute! I thought you girls were country girls?!

0:12:49 > 0:12:51You don't hold this stick like this! Isn't this a thumb stick?

0:12:52 > 0:12:55- It's not a walking stick! - No, it's not a walking stick!

0:12:55 > 0:12:58I don't know exactly what they call them, but they're sort of...

0:12:58 > 0:13:00Like a cane... Well, no, not a cane.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02I'm walking away from this conversation

0:13:02 > 0:13:04and heading back to the Blues,

0:13:04 > 0:13:06who are about to get a very surprising update

0:13:06 > 0:13:08on the Chinese tables.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10Team, a bit of bad news.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13- Oh, dear.- I don't think that the dealer wants to sell them

0:13:13 > 0:13:15because they're very useful as display stands.

0:13:15 > 0:13:16He's got them as display.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18- OK.- I wondered, seeing the way she had them spread.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22No, absolutely, I do love them, they're beautiful,

0:13:22 > 0:13:24- people do look for these things. - Of course.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27- OK.- But it's not for us. Not today. - Well, we need to move on.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30We need to move on, time is ticking.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32- It is, OK.- Let's go.- Thank you.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34Well, as they were on a stand full of items,

0:13:34 > 0:13:37I'll forgive you for thinking they were up for sale.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Back to the Reds, and with 20 minutes gone,

0:13:39 > 0:13:42I wonder if they'll finally spend some money

0:13:42 > 0:13:44and fork out for the walking stick.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47We would really love to hear your best price.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Erm...25.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56If you could come down, a little bit off that,

0:13:56 > 0:13:58then we might be very persuaded.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04The best on that is going to be...22.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08I think that's quite a fair price, to be honest,

0:14:08 > 0:14:12and I think, at auction, we could be lucky and perhaps...

0:14:12 > 0:14:15£20 to £40 for that,

0:14:15 > 0:14:17I think we might have a chance. It might have legs on it.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19It might even have wings!

0:14:19 > 0:14:23I like it very much. I'd very much like to buy it for 22.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25It's head over heart, isn't it, or heart over head,

0:14:25 > 0:14:27because I just think he's gorgeous.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29- VENDOR:- It's a nice thing for someone to walk with.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31- Yes.- Have we got a deal?

0:14:31 > 0:14:33- I think we've got a deal. - We'll have a deal.

0:14:33 > 0:14:37- Shake the man's hand, let's have a deal with him.- Thank you so much.

0:14:37 > 0:14:38Well, that's fantastic.

0:14:38 > 0:14:42That's one item in the bag, 25 minutes gone. Well done, ladies.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44So, each team has one item in the bag,

0:14:44 > 0:14:48and while they carry on shopping, I want to show you a special album.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50It has a unique story to tell.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58Now, what do I have in front of me?

0:14:58 > 0:15:01A veritable tome of information!

0:15:01 > 0:15:05But it's not words that are contained within this book.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08In fact, this is an album containing pictures

0:15:08 > 0:15:11which, so famously, can each say 1,000 words.

0:15:11 > 0:15:16So, first of all, the spine has fallen off and here it is.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19So, whilst on the outside it looks European,

0:15:19 > 0:15:21it's what you would call Morocco bound, this style.

0:15:21 > 0:15:25On the inside, what belies its origin

0:15:25 > 0:15:27is this Chinese stamp, the Chinese characters.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30This album was purchased in the Far East.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32Well, by whom?

0:15:32 > 0:15:35Likely it's been purchased by a Scottish soldier

0:15:35 > 0:15:37serving over in the Far East.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40The album is inscribed in pencil here, "A Cuthbert",

0:15:40 > 0:15:43so we can assume that's to whom it belonged.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45And the first photograph proudly displayed here

0:15:45 > 0:15:48in black and white is of a Scottish regiment.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52So, I'm going to guess it was created by a Scottish soldier.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54Now, what's inside this album?

0:15:54 > 0:15:56Well, at first glance it looks very personal.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58There are, in fact, over 300 original

0:15:58 > 0:16:01black-and-white photographs in here.

0:16:01 > 0:16:06We've got some traditional Chinese ladies here, in their Chinese garb.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09Military parades and exercises.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12And, in fact, even standard touristy stuff -

0:16:12 > 0:16:14monuments, archways, statues.

0:16:14 > 0:16:19So, whilst this album may seem very personal at first glance,

0:16:19 > 0:16:20A Cuthbert, whoever he was,

0:16:20 > 0:16:23didn't actually take these photographs -

0:16:23 > 0:16:27or, at least, I'm going to say the majority of these photographs.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29In fact, these original black-and-white photographs

0:16:29 > 0:16:33were produced en masse to be taken back to the West

0:16:33 > 0:16:35in albums such as these as souvenirs.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38So, what could an album like this be worth?

0:16:38 > 0:16:42I'm going to say £500 - £800.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44But what kind of market is there for such an album,

0:16:44 > 0:16:46who is going to buy it?

0:16:46 > 0:16:50Well, perhaps it'll be someone who knows who A Cuthbert was,

0:16:50 > 0:16:53or perhaps it'll be another who just simply appreciates

0:16:53 > 0:16:56the lost art of the 19th/20th century

0:16:56 > 0:16:59black-and-white souvenir album.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10There are less than 30 minutes left on the clock and the Reds and Blues

0:17:10 > 0:17:12are in search of items two and three.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16And it looks like Gary has honed in

0:17:16 > 0:17:18on another item of Oriental interest.

0:17:18 > 0:17:21How do these grab you? There's a pair of them.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23It's called Satsuma ware.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26- I've heard of that.- In the shape of sort of water pails.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30- What would they be used for? - They're just purely decorative.

0:17:30 > 0:17:34- Are they?- Or for flowers. - Oh, right.- Or even brushes, as well.

0:17:34 > 0:17:38That's what I thought of, artist's brushes.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41- There's two of them here.- What sort of price are on those, Gary?

0:17:41 > 0:17:44120 for the two. So that's...

0:17:44 > 0:17:47- Can I hold it, please, is that OK? - Yes, absolutely.

0:17:47 > 0:17:51- I'm being careful. - What's the decoration in?

0:17:51 > 0:17:54That's sort of a gold and lacquer.

0:17:54 > 0:17:55Oh, right.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58- Something to consider.- And they are in good condition, both of them?

0:17:58 > 0:18:01- That's what I was going to say, are they...?- Relatively.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03There's probably a bit of a minor chip over there.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05- You can see that.- Yes,

0:18:05 > 0:18:08it's a bit of a sharp edge to it, but still, minor.

0:18:09 > 0:18:13Well, all we can do, Gary, is ask for a price at this stage

0:18:13 > 0:18:15and see what your magic can...

0:18:15 > 0:18:17Well, Barry, shall you do the honours?

0:18:17 > 0:18:20I'll try, I'm quite happy to try.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22Are you passing the buck there, Gary?

0:18:22 > 0:18:24Well, I just hope these are for sale.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27Let's check in with the Reds.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Nest of tables are very beautiful.

0:18:29 > 0:18:30They're very nice.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33- They look to be... - They'll be reproduction.

0:18:33 > 0:18:34They are reproduction, yes.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37But, I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean

0:18:37 > 0:18:38that they're not saleable.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42- Do you like the ducks? - Yes, but they're not very old.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44- We're going to end up with lots of ducks.- I was going to say,

0:18:44 > 0:18:47- you've got a thing about ducks, haven't you?- Not really!

0:18:47 > 0:18:50But her sister told me earlier she has a soft spot for cows,

0:18:50 > 0:18:52although I don't think you'll find many in here.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54Now, how has Barry got on with the Satsuma ware?

0:18:56 > 0:19:00Due to that tiny bit of damage, I squeezed him down to 85,

0:19:00 > 0:19:02but that is... That was pushing it.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05That means... 85, £42 each,

0:19:05 > 0:19:07you couldn't make this for £42.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09- Are we going for this?- I think so.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11Yes, I think they're lovely.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14It's different, it's unusual and, at that price, it's worth a chance.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17OK, let's buy it and go for number three.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19- I'll go and shake.- Lovely.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23Bravo, Blues, you've got 20 minutes to find your last item.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Reds, you're on the hunt for two.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32We're really interested to know how much that would be.

0:19:32 > 0:19:33That's 120.

0:19:33 > 0:19:37It's not hallmarked, so we have to call it white metal.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39- I see.- And it's a vesta case.

0:19:42 > 0:19:47It's got somebody's initials on it, which always detracts the price

0:19:47 > 0:19:52because it's been marked, so you'd probably want to polish it out.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55I just think at £120, to go to auction with it...

0:19:55 > 0:19:58- I think you're right.- ..and it not being silver, may just not...

0:19:58 > 0:20:02It's not perhaps the right step to take.

0:20:02 > 0:20:0515 minutes and counting, Reds. You need to get a wriggle on.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Back to the Blues and Barry the carpenter

0:20:07 > 0:20:10has taken a shine to some rustic woodwork.

0:20:12 > 0:20:17Looks like it's a bit of African wood.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19Well patinated.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22- Yes.- So, it's not new.

0:20:22 > 0:20:27And this is probably made from just one piece of wood.

0:20:27 > 0:20:30It's got to be for either a child or for putting...

0:20:30 > 0:20:35It's something that women of the village would use

0:20:35 > 0:20:40to sit down in and sort of do their daily chores.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42- Right.- Can you see?

0:20:42 > 0:20:46Yes, to do the washing, or whatever, or peeling potatoes, or whatever.

0:20:46 > 0:20:47It's certainly a very interesting shape.

0:20:47 > 0:20:50I've never seen it before.

0:20:50 > 0:20:51So, what do you think, Barry?

0:20:51 > 0:20:53Well, I like the way it's made,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56in the sense that we've got mortise and tenon joints.

0:20:56 > 0:20:57Exactly.

0:20:57 > 0:21:01It's probably early 20th century.

0:21:01 > 0:21:05For African furniture, that's old enough.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08But I think, again, knowing our budget,

0:21:08 > 0:21:11it just depends on what the best price...

0:21:11 > 0:21:12Well, exactly.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Do you want to have a go this time?

0:21:14 > 0:21:17- OK.- Use your...women's charm! - SUE LAUGHS

0:21:17 > 0:21:19Yes, you're pretty good.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22Maybe if Sue uses her charms,

0:21:22 > 0:21:24you might end up getting it for nothing, gents!

0:21:24 > 0:21:29- Aw!- Aw!- We like him! - You like him, the old moo-moo.

0:21:29 > 0:21:32I said you wouldn't find a cow at this fair,

0:21:32 > 0:21:34but I'll admit when I'm wrong.

0:21:34 > 0:21:35What's he made from?

0:21:35 > 0:21:37- Well, I would think...- Or she made from?- ..it's a resin,

0:21:37 > 0:21:41- and we've got, like, a mosaic glass.- Oh, I love it.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44There's no signature or anything. I bought it at an auction,

0:21:44 > 0:21:47and I can't say much about it apart from it's gorgeous.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49Yes, he is absolutely beautiful.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52- What's the price?- 175.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54The bottom line I could give you is 160.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56- I don't think...- No, that's fine, don't worry.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58I'm not going to force you to buy it.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00I know, I know, but I want her.

0:22:00 > 0:22:01THEY LAUGH

0:22:01 > 0:22:05Sometimes, unusual, wacky works.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06- Yeah.- I must say that.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10We'd still need to get a really good price.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12That's what we're after.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14- That's it.- That's definitely it? - It is. That is it. Sorry.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18Well, you'd best get a MOOOve on, and decide sharpish.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20There's only ten minutes left

0:22:20 > 0:22:22and you still need to make two purchases.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25Now, has Sue managed to charm the dealer on the chair?

0:22:25 > 0:22:28- How did you get on, Sue? - He wasn't going to move from £60,

0:22:28 > 0:22:30but I got him down to 50.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Do you think that's pretty good?

0:22:33 > 0:22:35- I would buy it.- Right, OK.- ..at 50.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38- Do you like it? - Yeah, I do like it.

0:22:38 > 0:22:39I think it's really unusual.

0:22:39 > 0:22:41- I like it.- So do I.- You like it.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44- You like it.- And if you like it, that's all I need to know.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Well, I certainly would be proud to have this in my living room.

0:22:47 > 0:22:49- Fantastic.- That's good enough for us.- So, the price is right,

0:22:49 > 0:22:52we are all agreed, we buying it?

0:22:52 > 0:22:54- Yes.- That's item number three.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56- Brilliant.- It's a wrap.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58- Definitely.- Thank you.- Excellent!

0:22:58 > 0:23:00Let's go.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Cracking job, Blues, and with ten minutes left.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06I wish the Reds were as decisive as you are!

0:23:06 > 0:23:09They're still deciding on the £160 cow head.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13If it were me, I would buy it for my house.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15- You'd buy it for your house. - I would now buy that.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17- You would?- I would, but...

0:23:17 > 0:23:18Oof...

0:23:18 > 0:23:20- 155?- No.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22It's up to you, ladies.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26- OK, shall we go for it? - You want to go for it?

0:23:26 > 0:23:28- Yes, please.- Yes. We're going to go for it.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32Well done, but there's no time to waste -

0:23:32 > 0:23:34you have less than five minutes to get your last buy.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41We've not got a lot of money and we've got very, very little time.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Is there anything at all that you've got that is extraordinary?

0:23:45 > 0:23:47What is it?

0:23:47 > 0:23:49It's called a wimble.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51A wimble is used for making straw rope

0:23:51 > 0:23:54to tie the stocks of corn around

0:23:54 > 0:23:56before they stack it in the field for drying.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59- Are there collectors that would...? - Collect wimbles?

0:23:59 > 0:24:01- Yes.- Not really, but people collect treen

0:24:01 > 0:24:03or anything to do with farming implements.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05What's the best price?

0:24:05 > 0:24:07I'll do it for £35 for you.

0:24:07 > 0:24:09- £30?- I can't take £30.

0:24:09 > 0:24:11- You can't take 30. £35.- £35.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15I don't think we're too far out. We've got two minutes to go.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17- Yes, we'll go with it. - Shake the man's hand.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20- Thank you very much. That sounds great.- It's very unusual.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22It's just that we haven't seen anything like it before,

0:24:22 > 0:24:24- so we weren't sure. - Which might work.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26There's only one minute. Give us a shake.

0:24:26 > 0:24:27SHE BLOWS WHISTLE

0:24:27 > 0:24:30That's it, teams. Your 60 minutes are up.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33- Brilliant, girls.- Thank you. - We've done it, we've done it.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35Just by the skin of our teeth, as well.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38Let's remind ourselves what the Red team bought.

0:24:38 > 0:24:43Animal lovers Rachel and Sue went QUACKERS over the walking stick

0:24:43 > 0:24:45with duck's head. They paid £22.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51They continued the animal theme with this cow wall-hanging

0:24:51 > 0:24:52with a mosaic finish,

0:24:52 > 0:24:57but it definitely did not come for FRIEsian - £160 paid.

0:24:57 > 0:24:58And with minutes to spare,

0:24:58 > 0:25:02the pair rushed in and bought this iron wimble for £35.

0:25:02 > 0:25:06Tell me, your hearts must have been pounding.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08We had no time. We took it to the wire.

0:25:08 > 0:25:11But we were saved at the end.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13- By a wimble.- Yes, by a wimble!

0:25:13 > 0:25:16But tell me, that big cow's head.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18We love the cow's head.

0:25:18 > 0:25:19Is it your favourite item?

0:25:19 > 0:25:20- Absolutely.- Yes.- Absolutely.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23- It was really expensive. - It really did stand out.

0:25:23 > 0:25:24Tell me, Rachel, which do you think

0:25:24 > 0:25:26is going to bring the biggest profit?

0:25:26 > 0:25:28- I'm really hopeful that the cow will.- OK.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31That would be really wonderful, as we love it so much.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34But I think, possibly, the wimble.

0:25:34 > 0:25:35I don't know.

0:25:35 > 0:25:37What did you spend in the end? Remind me.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40- £217.- OK, quite a healthy sum,

0:25:40 > 0:25:42so £83 left.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44Oh, look at that. Just there it is.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46So, 83 to me, but not for long.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49Danny Sebastian, how are you going to play this?

0:25:49 > 0:25:51Sue and Rachel wanted a bit of bling.

0:25:51 > 0:25:52We didn't buy any bling.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55It was all kind of farmyard-y, woody-type stuff,

0:25:55 > 0:25:58so I think I might go for something a little bit sparkling

0:25:58 > 0:25:59for this lovely pair.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02OK, well, while Danny goes on a bounty hunt for some bling,

0:26:02 > 0:26:04let's remind ourselves what the Blue team bought.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07Barry and Sue fell for the Arts and Crafts frame,

0:26:07 > 0:26:09featuring an RAF insignia.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11But will it take off at the auction?

0:26:11 > 0:26:12£49 paid.

0:26:12 > 0:26:16The Blues fell for the pair of Satsuma baskets

0:26:16 > 0:26:19and got a decent discount. They cost them £85.

0:26:20 > 0:26:24And the hardwood, handmade chair spoke to Barry the carpenter,

0:26:24 > 0:26:27and they brought it for £50.

0:26:27 > 0:26:31Sue, Barry, Gary, you got pretty much everything that you wanted.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33Unusual, Arts and Crafts and Oriental.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38So, Barry, which of those three did you prefer?

0:26:38 > 0:26:41I actually like the Arts and Crafts frame with military badge,

0:26:41 > 0:26:43because I think there's two possibilities there -

0:26:43 > 0:26:46someone collecting military, someone collecting Arts and Crafts.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49Do you think it's going to bring the biggest profit?

0:26:49 > 0:26:53I'm not so sure. I think Sue's favourites may bring the profits.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56OK. So, Sue, tell us, which were your favourite items?

0:26:56 > 0:26:58I like the Satsuma pots.

0:26:58 > 0:27:00They're so intricate and beautiful patterns on them.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03I just think they're absolutely beautiful.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06And think... And I also think that they may bring the best profit.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08And you spent pretty well, too - 100 and something.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10Remind me of the final sum.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12- 184.- OK, pretty good.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16- So, you've got...- I have.- ..£116.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19OK. That all-important nugget.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22Right, Gary, £116.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25Do you have any idea what you'll spend it on?

0:27:25 > 0:27:28- I haven't got a clue. - Sounds interesting.

0:27:28 > 0:27:30But there's a lot of variety there,

0:27:30 > 0:27:34so I want to keep up this thing that we've got - different material,

0:27:34 > 0:27:37different periods, different continents,

0:27:37 > 0:27:39so just watch this space.

0:27:39 > 0:27:40Gary sounds positive.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42So let's hope that positivity continues

0:27:42 > 0:27:44as we head to Honiton for the auction.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53And we're setting up shop at Whittons auctioneers...

0:27:53 > 0:27:55with Edward Whitton.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57So, Edward, thank you for having us along.

0:27:57 > 0:27:59- Thank you for coming. - It's a real pleasure,

0:27:59 > 0:28:02especially because we have quite a mighty fine selection.

0:28:02 > 0:28:04A fine array.

0:28:04 > 0:28:07Let's start off with Rachel and Sue's.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10And we'll start off with their walking stick.

0:28:10 > 0:28:13Now, as far as duck walking sticks go, this is the cream of the crop,

0:28:13 > 0:28:14isn't it? It's a good one.

0:28:14 > 0:28:16Absolutely. Best I've ever seen.

0:28:16 > 0:28:18It's a bit reproduction, a little bit made up, I think.

0:28:18 > 0:28:20You've got a bit of beech as the actual stick,

0:28:20 > 0:28:25and then mahogany face, and it's just a bit of a put-together job.

0:28:25 > 0:28:27Do you think it was pieced together by an amateur?

0:28:27 > 0:28:31- Yeah. Absolutely.- OK, and as such, is that reflected in the estimate?

0:28:31 > 0:28:33Yep, 20 to 30.

0:28:33 > 0:28:35Well, the sisters won't mind that at all

0:28:35 > 0:28:37because they only paid £22,

0:28:37 > 0:28:41which I've just realised is two ducks in a row! Sitting ducks, £22!

0:28:41 > 0:28:43It's all working out nicely.

0:28:43 > 0:28:46So, let's stick with our animal theme.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49I'll bet, I'll wager that at Whittons auction house

0:28:49 > 0:28:52you've never sold a Friesian cow head of this style before.

0:28:52 > 0:28:54I'll bet there's not many auction houses

0:28:54 > 0:28:57that have sold a Friesian cow head like that.

0:28:57 > 0:28:59Well, it's made of fibreglass...

0:28:59 > 0:29:01probably in the last 20 years.

0:29:01 > 0:29:05It's got the crackle-ware mosaic-type effect.

0:29:05 > 0:29:08But it's not in great condition.

0:29:08 > 0:29:11So, hence, it reflects the estimate, 60 to 80.

0:29:11 > 0:29:15OK, well, the ladies love their farmyard animals,

0:29:15 > 0:29:20and they were prepared to pay £160 for this prize beast.

0:29:20 > 0:29:22So, item number three, Edward - I'm a bit of a city girl,

0:29:22 > 0:29:25so educate me a little bit here.

0:29:25 > 0:29:26What on earth is a wimble?

0:29:26 > 0:29:30I think it's for tightening twine on, perhaps, bales,

0:29:30 > 0:29:33straw bales, something like that.

0:29:33 > 0:29:36But what do you do with it these days?

0:29:36 > 0:29:38It's a decorator's item. Perhaps hang it on the wall.

0:29:38 > 0:29:41- What do you think it's worth? - I'd put 20 to £30 on it.

0:29:41 > 0:29:43OK. Well, the ladies paid £35.

0:29:43 > 0:29:46- Oh, OK.- So, really, it's all about this cow,

0:29:46 > 0:29:50and I think you're going to have to milk it when you're on the rostrum!

0:29:50 > 0:29:52So, just in case the Reds need their bonus buy,

0:29:52 > 0:29:55let's find out what Danny bought.

0:29:55 > 0:29:59- Well, Sue, Rachel, you spent quite well during the shop...- Yes.

0:29:59 > 0:30:01..leaving Danny only £83.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04Go on, Danny, reveal all.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07- Look at that little beauty. - That's very pretty.

0:30:07 > 0:30:11A lovely Victorian little cabochon scarf pin...

0:30:11 > 0:30:13- Oh, OK.- ..with a garnet stone.

0:30:13 > 0:30:15It's got a little twist, as well, as you can see on the pin.

0:30:15 > 0:30:19If you look closely, you can just see a little twist in the metalwork.

0:30:19 > 0:30:22- It would look really pretty. - I think it's pretty, yeah.

0:30:22 > 0:30:24How much did you pay for it?

0:30:24 > 0:30:25I paid £40.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29- OK.- But I think there's still plenty of room in an auction.

0:30:29 > 0:30:31So, what would you think that would...?

0:30:31 > 0:30:34I'd like to see that achieve somewhere between

0:30:34 > 0:30:3660, maybe even a little bit more.

0:30:36 > 0:30:39- Excellent.- All right.- We like it. - We'll give it some thought.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42Well, while the ladies give it some thought,

0:30:42 > 0:30:43let's find out what Ed, our auctioneer,

0:30:43 > 0:30:45thinks about Danny's stick pin.

0:30:47 > 0:30:50It's not gold, but do you think it glitters?

0:30:50 > 0:30:53Yes. A typical bit of Victoriana, with the cabochon stone,

0:30:53 > 0:30:55the cabochon, which is French for polish,

0:30:55 > 0:30:58which is just blatant polished stone, not unusual.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01It's nice and clean. Nice original old box, which helps it along.

0:31:01 > 0:31:04OK, and what kind of estimate are you going to place on the bonus buy?

0:31:04 > 0:31:06£20 to £30.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09OK, well, Danny has not done too badly, then.

0:31:09 > 0:31:11- He bought it for £40, this stick pin.- OK.

0:31:11 > 0:31:13So, he'll be quite happy with your estimate.

0:31:13 > 0:31:15- Good.- Because we're hoping for a good competition

0:31:15 > 0:31:17- and a wee bit of profit.- Yeah.

0:31:17 > 0:31:20OK, that's another thing that the Blues will be hoping for - profit.

0:31:20 > 0:31:25So, let's start off with our RAF insignia in this brass frame here.

0:31:25 > 0:31:27- Yeah.- I mean, it wouldn't originally have been on this bit of fabric,

0:31:27 > 0:31:30- would it?- No, it probably would have been on a jacket at some stage

0:31:30 > 0:31:33- and the jacket's gone into disrepair.- Yes, it's quite sweet.

0:31:33 > 0:31:36- Yeah.- Obviously the two - you can tell by the size -

0:31:36 > 0:31:38- didn't really go together originally.- No.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40So, someone, the dealer, has pieced together

0:31:40 > 0:31:42- the frame and the insignia.- Yeah.

0:31:42 > 0:31:46And have you put an estimate that the Blues are going to like on it?

0:31:46 > 0:31:4730 to 50.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50Well, as a team they paid £49.

0:31:50 > 0:31:53- OK.- And that was very much led by Gary, so that one's on their expert.

0:31:53 > 0:31:57So, turning to item number two - typical Satsuma style,

0:31:57 > 0:32:00but in the form of baskets. So, what do you think of this pair?

0:32:00 > 0:32:02They're nice, typical of their type.

0:32:02 > 0:32:04Nice and clean.

0:32:04 > 0:32:05But they're cracked.

0:32:05 > 0:32:07They have slight damage and restoration,

0:32:07 > 0:32:08which doesn't help them along.

0:32:08 > 0:32:11- What sort of estimate have you got?- 50 to 80.

0:32:11 > 0:32:1550 to 80. Well, actually, they paid £85.

0:32:15 > 0:32:19So, we'll really have to keep our fingers crossed for that lot.

0:32:19 > 0:32:22- Yep.- Now, let's move on to something completely different.

0:32:22 > 0:32:24We've got this Continental chair.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26It's quite a nice style, to be fair.

0:32:26 > 0:32:30- But...bit uncomfortable. - A wee bit uncomfortable,

0:32:30 > 0:32:33- but miniature furniture does...- It does.- ..have a place in the market.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36Yeah, it does, very much so, and it's quite rustic, as well.

0:32:36 > 0:32:37I think it will sell.

0:32:37 > 0:32:39- And what kind of estimate have you put on this?- 40 to 60.

0:32:39 > 0:32:4340 to 60. OK, well, the team paid slap bang in the middle - £50 -

0:32:43 > 0:32:46- so they won't be too upset at all. - No, no.

0:32:46 > 0:32:48But they might be in the red,

0:32:48 > 0:32:53so if they are, let's see what Gary bought as a bonus buy.

0:32:53 > 0:32:58Sue, Barry, you left Gary quite a good amount of money - £116.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01Gary, show us what you've bought.

0:33:01 > 0:33:06Well, I thought I'd get something from the North American continent.

0:33:06 > 0:33:09Something that has a big name attached to it.

0:33:09 > 0:33:10- Wow.- Oh.

0:33:10 > 0:33:13Tiffany & Company.

0:33:13 > 0:33:19And more importantly, there's a name, a designer, attached to this.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21- Yes.- A very important designer.- Yes.

0:33:21 > 0:33:25Elsa Peretti, who used to be a fashion model in the '60s.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27- Is it silver?- It is silver.

0:33:27 > 0:33:29- Sterling.- Oh, lovely.- Elsa Peretti.

0:33:29 > 0:33:31- Is it all right to hold it, Gary?- Yes, absolutely.

0:33:31 > 0:33:32How much was it?

0:33:32 > 0:33:34- 75.- Oh, right.

0:33:34 > 0:33:38- So, two big names...- Yeah. - Elsa Peretti and Tiffany.- Tiffany.

0:33:38 > 0:33:40I love the design.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42Gary, do you have high hopes for it in the auction?

0:33:42 > 0:33:44I'd expect it, if it was catalogued properly,

0:33:44 > 0:33:48to fetch in the region of £90 to £100.

0:33:48 > 0:33:51It couldn't be better, because we wanted something with a name,

0:33:51 > 0:33:53you know, one of the names which we couldn't find.

0:33:53 > 0:33:56- You found it. - That name couldn't be bigger.

0:33:56 > 0:33:58- No, not really, no. - Absolutely fabulous.- Beautiful.

0:33:58 > 0:34:01- And functional.- Yes, that's it. It's got the dual purpose, hasn't it?

0:34:01 > 0:34:03It's very stylish.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05I'm sure it's something you'd like to own, Natasha.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08I would, but whether or not I want to own it is not relevant.

0:34:08 > 0:34:11It's time to find out if our auctioneer, Ed,

0:34:11 > 0:34:15thinks that his buyers will want to own this Tiffany pen.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18Here we have Gary's bonus buy,

0:34:18 > 0:34:19and I think he's done pretty well.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22He's got Tiffany & Co. Lovely pen. What do you reckon?

0:34:22 > 0:34:27Yes, it's clean, it's all 925 silver marked.

0:34:27 > 0:34:30It's in a fitted box with the sleeve.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32Pretty well as new, ideal present for someone, possibly.

0:34:32 > 0:34:35OK, so, sounds like you've got quite high hopes for it.

0:34:35 > 0:34:36What do you reckon it's going to make?

0:34:36 > 0:34:39I'd put a conservative effort of 40 to 60,

0:34:39 > 0:34:40but I'm hoping it will make more.

0:34:40 > 0:34:43OK, well, so will Gary, because he paid £75 for it.

0:34:43 > 0:34:46But fingers crossed, because it's all about competition with this one,

0:34:46 > 0:34:48- isn't it?- Yes.- It could be a battle of the buyers.

0:34:48 > 0:34:51- Absolutely.- OK, well, as you'll be taking the auction today

0:34:51 > 0:34:53you'll be hoping for plenty of battles amongst the buyers.

0:34:53 > 0:34:55Yeah, points mean prizes!

0:34:55 > 0:34:58Well, fingers crossed there'll be lots of scoring all round!

0:35:05 > 0:35:08- Rachel, Sue, the time has come.- I know.

0:35:08 > 0:35:10You're faced with the auctioneer

0:35:10 > 0:35:14and the prospect of making or losing some money. How are you feeling?

0:35:14 > 0:35:15Really excited.

0:35:15 > 0:35:19- Quite nervous.- I'm nervous as well, but, yeah, really excited.

0:35:19 > 0:35:21Now, we're starting with the walking stick.

0:35:21 > 0:35:25- You both love that.- OK, yeah. - It's not really on anyone's head

0:35:25 > 0:35:27- if it doesn't make any money, right?- No.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29Here it comes.

0:35:29 > 0:35:31What are we? 20 to start me?

0:35:31 > 0:35:3320, 15 I have. 16.

0:35:33 > 0:35:3518, 20...

0:35:35 > 0:35:37- Two...- We are in profit!

0:35:37 > 0:35:39- Four?- My goodness.- Six?

0:35:39 > 0:35:41At £24. 6 anywhere else?

0:35:41 > 0:35:44At £24, gone on.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47Quack-quack! We've made a profit.

0:35:47 > 0:35:50£24. You've made a £2 profit.

0:35:50 > 0:35:52Not too shabby.

0:35:52 > 0:35:56Next it's your favourite, £160 paid for. Your cow!

0:35:56 > 0:35:58Here's hoping she's a prize beast.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00- Let's hope they are all animal lovers.- Pride of the herd.

0:36:00 > 0:36:02On the internet, then... Here we go,

0:36:02 > 0:36:0665. 65. 70, 70 for you on the phone.

0:36:06 > 0:36:0880.

0:36:08 > 0:36:115. 90, 95 on the internet.

0:36:11 > 0:36:12Fill it up? 100?

0:36:12 > 0:36:14- £100 here on the phone.- Come on.

0:36:14 > 0:36:16£100. And 10.

0:36:16 > 0:36:18- 110.- Yay!- 120.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21120. 120 for you on the telephone.

0:36:21 > 0:36:23At 120 on the telephone.

0:36:23 > 0:36:25Last call.

0:36:25 > 0:36:26130.

0:36:26 > 0:36:27THEY CHEER

0:36:27 > 0:36:29We're gradually drawing them out.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31At 130. 130.
