0:13:31 > 0:13:33Here's the one and only Sam Smith to tell you more.
0:13:33 > 0:13:37There is no doubt that life can be cruel.
0:13:37 > 0:13:39The family you are about to meet know this.
0:13:39 > 0:13:42They really know this.
0:13:42 > 0:13:45I don't know how they begin to cope with what's happened to them
0:13:45 > 0:13:48and they cope with incredible love, grace and dignity.
0:13:48 > 0:13:51What I do know is that your donations have helped them.
0:13:51 > 0:13:54And for that they are grateful.
0:13:54 > 0:13:57This is an upsetting film, but please stay with it
0:13:57 > 0:14:01because it is really, really important.
0:14:01 > 0:14:03Doing really well, Noah.
0:14:03 > 0:14:06Six!
0:14:06 > 0:14:09Looking at him, you wouldn't have thought there was
0:14:09 > 0:14:10anything wrong with him.
0:14:10 > 0:14:11Yeah.
0:14:11 > 0:14:15He maybe had an unsteady gait, but apart from that he was
0:14:15 > 0:14:20just perfectly normal.
0:14:20 > 0:14:26Eight years ago, Noah was diagnosed with a rare form of leukodystrophy.
0:14:26 > 0:14:29It's a life-limiting neurological disease that has affected every
0:14:29 > 0:14:37aspect of his young life.
0:14:37 > 0:14:39I think he would have been an athletic wee boy.
0:14:39 > 0:14:42I think he would have been into his sport,
0:14:42 > 0:14:47I think he would have been very outgoing, very sociable, you know.
0:14:47 > 0:14:51I would have imagined him coming in, throwing the football boots down
0:14:51 > 0:14:54and just those normal things that you just really, you know,
0:14:54 > 0:14:55take for granted.
0:14:55 > 0:14:56Is that a wee bit better?
0:14:56 > 0:14:58Noah is now 11.
0:14:58 > 0:15:01Most children who have this condition don't live
0:15:01 > 0:15:03beyond their teenage years.
0:15:03 > 0:15:05Are you going to look after me?
0:15:05 > 0:15:06Yeah.
0:15:06 > 0:15:07Would look after me, would you?
0:15:07 > 0:15:08Yeah.
0:15:08 > 0:15:10OK.
0:15:10 > 0:15:14You're my best boy, aren't you?
0:15:14 > 0:15:17We watch Noah and he's starting to lose a lot of his abilities,
0:15:17 > 0:15:19like even the ability to sit up on his own.
0:15:19 > 0:15:22And, yeah, cognitively, he's still very much
0:15:22 > 0:15:27aware of what's going on, so that for us is heartbreaking.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30Do you need some help, darling?
0:15:30 > 0:15:31No.
0:15:31 > 0:15:34Noah's sister, Gracie, has witnessed her brother's decline.
0:15:34 > 0:15:36As Noah's condition deteriorates and he gets worse, it
0:15:36 > 0:15:41affects our whole family.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45Instead of moving towards life, you're moving towards...
0:15:45 > 0:15:47you know, this...
0:15:47 > 0:15:54death.
0:15:54 > 0:15:58A year after Noah was diagnosed, our social worker said
0:15:58 > 0:16:00to us about a hospice, Horizon House.
0:16:00 > 0:16:02I think initially we were like petrified, weren't we?
0:16:02 > 0:16:06It was just the word "hospice" and what that meant.
0:16:06 > 0:16:08We did go to Horizon House.
0:16:08 > 0:16:14And it was just such a fun place to be.
0:16:14 > 0:16:18Horizon House is supported by your donations and for the past
0:16:18 > 0:16:22seven years, they have been by Noah's side, giving him
0:16:22 > 0:16:25and his family vital support, a sense of normality and most
0:16:25 > 0:16:31of all fun.
0:16:31 > 0:16:32THEY LAUGH.
0:16:32 > 0:16:33Noah!
0:16:33 > 0:16:34Get her!
0:16:34 > 0:16:35Get her!
0:16:35 > 0:16:36Put it down.
0:16:36 > 0:16:37The nurses are amazing.
0:16:37 > 0:16:38And it's fun.
0:16:38 > 0:16:41The children just do so much together when they are there,
0:16:41 > 0:16:46you know, they love it.
0:16:46 > 0:16:54Gracie's been going for as long as Noah's been going.
0:16:54 > 0:16:59Leukodystrophy is a genetic condition.
0:16:59 > 0:17:01And a year after Noah's diagnosis, the family discovered
0:17:01 > 0:17:07that Gracie had it, too.
0:17:07 > 0:17:10When we found out Gracie had it, it was just
0:17:10 > 0:17:14devastating all over again.
0:17:14 > 0:17:16It's a very, very cruel disease.
0:17:16 > 0:17:18She's watched Noah, so for her...
0:17:18 > 0:17:21..to be watching that, there's no words to describe
0:17:21 > 0:17:29the heartache that you feel.

1:03:15 > 1:03:18First up, the car dealership chain Lookers and their customers

1:03:23 > 1:03:27To tell us more, our roving reporter Georgia is on the ground.
1:03:27 > 1:03:30Hi, I'm here in London where a few of the staff

1:03:32 > 1:03:34We've got a Scalextric race between staff and customers.
1:03:34 > 1:03:37Everyone is just having a lot of fun, there's a lot of buzzing
1:03:37 > 1:03:38vibes in the showroom.

1:03:59 > 1:04:01And I'm hearing Round Table are doing a cycle challenge
1:04:01 > 1:04:02from Ireland to Wales.
1:04:02 > 1:04:05It's all happening.
1:04:05 > 1:04:07So, a huge CiN News thank you to everyone involved.
1:04:07 > 1:04:16Good night.
1:04:16 > 1:04:19A huge congratulations to everyone at Lookers and all the
1:04:19 > 1:04:20community groups.
1:04:20 > 1:04:22Thanks for all your hard work.
1:04:22 > 1:04:25Now, you're all doing so many amazing things across the
1:04:25 > 1:04:28country for Children in Need and it's all for one very
1:04:28 > 1:04:30important reason - to support young people who need your
1:04:30 > 1:04:32help.
1:04:32 > 1:04:34Here's the brilliant Jim Broadbent to tell you more.
1:04:34 > 1:04:38I'd like to talk to you about a family.
1:04:38 > 1:04:41I'm going to call them the Davis family to protect their identity.
1:04:41 > 1:04:45There's Mum, Dad, a teenage son I'll call Peter,
1:04:45 > 1:04:47and a six-year-old daughter I'll call Betty.
1:04:47 > 1:04:50Everything was going well for them.
1:04:50 > 1:04:53Money was tight, like it is for many families, but life was good.
1:04:53 > 1:04:58Mum stayed at home to look after the children and Dad went to work.
1:04:58 > 1:05:00But then Mum was diagnosed with cancer.
1:05:00 > 1:05:03She had an operation and there were complications.
1:05:03 > 1:05:07Mum is now going to hospital every day for chemotherapy
1:05:07 > 1:05:13and radiotherapy, just to stay alive.
1:05:13 > 1:05:16Dad has had to give up work to look after everyone.
1:05:16 > 1:05:18This is a terrible time for the whole family,
1:05:18 > 1:05:20and their future is horribly uncertain.
1:05:20 > 1:05:22They've moved from one council flat to another to be
1:05:22 > 1:05:25closer to the hospital.
1:05:25 > 1:05:28In their last flat, Betty had her own bedroom with a bed
1:05:28 > 1:05:30that was built in to the wall.
1:05:30 > 1:05:34When they moved they couldn't take the bed with them and,
1:05:34 > 1:05:37because Dad has had to give up work to look after everyone,
1:05:37 > 1:05:39they can't afford to buy a new one.
1:05:39 > 1:05:42It means Betty is now having to share a bed with her Mum -
1:05:42 > 1:05:45her mum, who is desperately ill and weak after those daily
1:05:45 > 1:05:50trips to the hospital for life-saving treatment.
1:05:50 > 1:05:53A family shouldn't have to live like this.
1:05:53 > 1:05:56Betty should have her own bed.
1:05:56 > 1:05:59Mum's ill health means that, even when Betty does go
1:05:59 > 1:06:02to bed, she's not getting a proper night's sleep.
1:06:02 > 1:06:03This is a real family.
1:06:03 > 1:06:06This is their life.
1:06:06 > 1:06:09This is terrible.
1:06:09 > 1:06:12But I'm so happy to be able to tell you that,
1:06:12 > 1:06:15through your donations, BBC Children In Need have made
1:06:15 > 1:06:17an emergency grant to this family through an organisation called
1:06:17 > 1:06:21Buttle UK.
1:06:21 > 1:06:25A grant which will buy little Betty a new bed.
1:06:25 > 1:06:28It won't make her mum better, it won't make this family's
1:06:28 > 1:06:30future any more certain, but it will, hopefully, mean that
1:06:30 > 1:06:33Betty has a good night's sleep.
1:06:33 > 1:06:36And everything, everything feels just a little bit better
1:06:36 > 1:06:39after a good night's sleep.
1:06:39 > 1:06:41Betty's family aren't alone.
1:06:41 > 1:06:46It's estimated that there are 4 million children living
1:06:46 > 1:06:48in poverty in the UK right now.
1:06:48 > 1:06:51Please help us to continue to support Buttle UK in the vital
1:06:51 > 1:06:53work they do supporting some of this country's most
1:06:53 > 1:06:56disadvantaged children.
1:06:56 > 1:07:05The number to call is...
1:07:16 > 1:07:21Thank you.
1:07:21 > 1:07:24That's just one example of a family who really needs your help.
1:07:24 > 1:07:27You have the power to change lives and to make a
1:07:27 > 1:07:29huge difference and we're asking you to please do that

1:15:37 > 1:15:49Earlier you saw people coming together from the 80s Rocks.
1:15:49 > 1:15:52Throughout the night people were donating so we can see how much you
1:15:52 > 1:16:07raised from the concert itself. Thank you for everyone involved. You
1:16:07 > 1:16:11can watch that concert later on tonight.
1:16:19 > 1:16:28When Marvin and I first came on tonight we showed you a film about a
1:16:28 > 1:16:32family that has truly touched you. We've been inundated by your
1:16:32 > 1:16:36donations. Because tonight is about raising as much as we can, we're
1:16:36 > 1:16:42going to show it again. Here's Sam Smith.
1:16:42 > 1:16:44There is no doubt that life can be cruel.
1:16:44 > 1:16:46The family you are about to meet know this.
1:16:46 > 1:16:48They really know this.
1:16:48 > 1:16:51I don't know how they begin to cope with what's happened to them
1:16:51 > 1:16:53and they cope with incredible love, grace and dignity.
1:16:53 > 1:16:55What I do know is that your donations have helped them.
1:16:55 > 1:16:57And for that they are grateful.
1:16:57 > 1:16:59This is an upsetting film, but please stay with it
1:16:59 > 1:17:01because it is really, really important.
1:17:01 > 1:17:02Doing really well, Noah.
1:17:02 > 1:17:03Six!
1:17:03 > 1:17:05Looking at him, you wouldn't have thought there was
1:17:05 > 1:17:06anything wrong with him.
1:17:06 > 1:17:07Yeah.
1:17:07 > 1:17:10He maybe had an unsteady gait, but apart from that he was
1:17:10 > 1:17:11just perfectly normal.
1:17:11 > 1:17:14Eight years ago, Noah was diagnosed with a rare form of leukodystrophy.
1:17:14 > 1:17:16It's a life-limiting neurological disease that has affected every
1:17:16 > 1:17:23aspect of his young life.
1:17:23 > 1:17:28I think he would have been an athletic wee boy.
1:17:28 > 1:17:30I think he would have been into his sport,
1:17:30 > 1:17:34I think he would have been very outgoing, very sociable, you know.
1:17:34 > 1:17:37I would have imagined him coming in, throwing the football boots down
1:17:37 > 1:17:40and just those normal things that you just really, you know,
1:17:40 > 1:17:43take for granted.
1:17:43 > 1:17:45Is that a wee bit better?
1:17:45 > 1:17:48Noah is now 11.
1:17:48 > 1:17:50Most children who have this condition don't live
1:17:50 > 1:17:52beyond their teenage years.
1:17:52 > 1:17:54Are you going to look after me?
1:17:54 > 1:17:55Yeah.
1:17:55 > 1:17:56Would look after me, would you?
1:17:56 > 1:17:58Yeah.
1:17:58 > 1:17:58OK.
1:17:58 > 1:18:01You're my best boy, aren't you?
1:18:01 > 1:18:05We watch Noah and he's starting to lose a lot of his abilities,
1:18:05 > 1:18:11like even the ability to sit up on his own.
1:18:11 > 1:18:13And, yeah, cognitively, he's still very much
1:18:13 > 1:18:15aware of what's going on, so that for us is heartbreaking.
1:18:15 > 1:18:17Do you need some help, darling?
1:18:17 > 1:18:20No.
1:18:20 > 1:18:25Noah's sister, Gracie, has witnessed her brother's decline.
1:18:25 > 1:18:27As Noah's condition deteriorates and he gets worse, it
1:18:27 > 1:18:32affects our whole family.
1:18:32 > 1:18:34Instead of moving towards life, you're moving towards...
1:18:34 > 1:18:35you know, this...
1:18:35 > 1:18:43death.
1:18:43 > 1:18:46A year after Noah was diagnosed, our social worker said
1:18:46 > 1:18:48to us about a hospice, Horizon House.
1:18:48 > 1:18:50I think initially we were like petrified, weren't we?
1:18:50 > 1:18:53It was just the word "hospice" and what that meant.
1:18:53 > 1:18:55We did go to Horizon House.
1:18:55 > 1:19:04And it was just such a fun place to be.
1:19:04 > 1:19:06Horizon House is supported by your donations and for the past
1:19:06 > 1:19:09seven years, they have been by Noah's side, giving him
1:19:09 > 1:19:11and his family vital support, a sense of normality and most
1:19:11 > 1:19:13of all fun.
1:19:13 > 1:19:14THEY LAUGH.
1:19:14 > 1:19:15Noah!
1:19:15 > 1:19:16Get her!
1:19:16 > 1:19:17Get her!
1:19:17 > 1:19:20Put it down.
1:19:20 > 1:19:22The nurses are amazing.
1:19:22 > 1:19:27And it's fun.
1:19:27 > 1:19:29The children just do so much together when they are there,
1:19:29 > 1:19:30you know, they love it.
1:19:30 > 1:19:36Gracie's been going for as long as Noah's been going.
1:19:36 > 1:19:44Leukodystrophy is a genetic condition.
1:19:44 > 1:19:46And a year after Noah's diagnosis, the family discovered
1:19:46 > 1:19:54that Gracie had it, too.
1:19:54 > 1:19:56When we found out Gracie had it, it was just
1:19:56 > 1:20:01devastating all over again.
1:20:01 > 1:20:03It's a very, very cruel disease.
1:20:03 > 1:20:04She's watched Noah, so for her...
1:20:04 > 1:20:06..to be watching that, there's no words to describe
1:20:06 > 1:20:12the heartache that you feel.
1:20:12 > 1:20:15We had so many hopes and dreams for what our family life
1:20:15 > 1:20:21was going to be like before.
1:20:21 > 1:20:24You know, you think about things that people take for granted,
1:20:24 > 1:20:26like your children going to university, meeting a wee
1:20:26 > 1:20:28girlfriend or boyfriend, getting married and...
1:20:28 > 1:20:30Yeah...
1:20:30 > 1:20:40That's just...the kind of life that you wanted for them.
1:20:53 > 1:20:55What an incredible family, and such a sad story.
1:20:55 > 1:20:56We're all sending you our love.
1:20:56 > 1:20:58The support that children's hospices like Horizon House
1:20:58 > 1:21:00provide is so important for families like Noah and Gracie's.
1:21:00 > 1:21:02That support would not be possible
1:21:02 > 1:21:05without your donations.
1:21:05 > 1:21:13So please call...
1:21:13 > 1:21:19Give anything. Don't worry about it being small. Anything. It really
1:21:19 > 1:21:20does help.
1:21:20 > 1:21:26You can also donate by text...
1:21:26 > 1:21:28Texts will cost your donation plus your standard network
1:21:28 > 1:21:31message charge and you'll find full terms and conditions at
1:21:31 > 1:21:34bbc.co.uk/Pudsey.
1:21:34 > 1:21:44Thank you.
1:21:45 > 1:21:58That was a powerful vt. Please give.
1:21:58 > 1:22:00Earlier tonight Marvin you won our House Party challenge,
1:22:00 > 1:22:02a particularly convoluted game involving a host of
1:22:02 > 1:22:04celebrities dancing around like they're in week one on

1:22:07 > 1:22:09Now that's something I am up for.
