0:02:35 > 0:02:41In Dundee.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44In Dundee. The Tamera looks after children who are having a stressful
0:02:44 > 0:02:50time due to illness. 12-year-old Benny from Dundee sailed through
0:02:50 > 0:02:54primary school loving sport and spending time with friends. Until he
0:02:54 > 0:03:01got cancer in May this year.Doctors diagnose it initially Aston
0:03:01 > 0:03:06sillitis. The last thing we ever expected to hear was the news that
0:03:06 > 0:03:12he had leukaemia. Threw us into complete turmoil.My reaction wasn't
0:03:12 > 0:03:17that severe. I was like, OK, that doesn't sound too bad. I will get
0:03:17 > 0:03:21through this, it will be easy. Despite Benny's positive attitude,
0:03:21 > 0:03:26it was clear he was seriously ill. He was rushed to hospital 60 miles
0:03:26 > 0:03:31away in Edinburgh.Benny immediately went into theatre to have the
0:03:31 > 0:03:36Central line inserted in his chest through which they could administer
0:03:36 > 0:03:40the chemotherapy.Benny spent a month in hospital undergoing
0:03:40 > 0:03:44intensive treatment. The doctors hoped this would be enough to send
0:03:44 > 0:03:49the cancer into remission. Unfortunately, when Benny came back
0:03:49 > 0:03:54from Edinburgh, some tests showed Benny's leukaemia cells were more
0:03:54 > 0:04:01severe in his bone marrow than was first thought. They to switch him to
0:04:01 > 0:04:07the hey rest regimes. The first year of the three years will be the most
0:04:07 > 0:04:13intensive.Having chemotherapy makes my arms and legs very weak. Too
0:04:13 > 0:04:18tired to do anything. The one thing I really hate is getting injected. I
0:04:18 > 0:04:24find it OK when it's in my arm. In my thigh, where I usually have to
0:04:24 > 0:04:31get it, it hurts. But the last straw is just how much the chemotherapy's
0:04:31 > 0:04:34affecting Benny appearance.During November, I get another five weeks
0:04:34 > 0:04:40of chemotherapy. My hair will fall out. I will lose the progress I've
0:04:40 > 0:04:45been making. I don't know why I call it progress. It's not even that
0:04:45 > 0:04:50much.We're in this together as a family. We have to take it a day at
0:04:50 > 0:04:55a time and see where we go from there.
0:04:59 > 0:05:05A lovely day for the sailing.Yeah, a good one, I think.There's one
0:05:05 > 0:05:08thing that's helping Benny and his mum and dad to take their minds off
0:05:08 > 0:05:12things. Your Children in Need donations are helping the charity to
0:05:12 > 0:05:16offer trips to families like Benny's who've been suffering serious
0:05:16 > 0:05:23illness.After a long period maybe in hospital undergoying some pretty
0:05:23 > 0:05:27hefty treatments, it is just a great time for families to get together
0:05:27 > 0:05:32and have a sharing experience to find their feet again. It gives us
0:05:32 > 0:05:35very good quality family time. We're making memories. Oh, look, there's a
0:05:35 > 0:05:48seal.Yeah.It's a seal of approval! I'll get kicked off the boat! As
0:05:48 > 0:05:53soon as we're out on the water you tend to forget everything. That
0:05:53 > 0:05:57Benny's leukaemia condition, every hindrance we've been through for the
0:05:57 > 0:06:07last two or three months, we all felt completely relaxed. This is us
0:06:07 > 0:06:13well well and clear. Over. You actually feel a sense of freedom.
0:06:13 > 0:06:23Just absolutely came at the right time for all of us.Today, as a
0:06:23 > 0:06:28special treat, Taymara have invited Benny's best pal on board.I'm
0:06:28 > 0:06:36really enjoying it. The fact I'm with one of my friends. It's really
0:06:36 > 0:06:44good to see this and it's all great.
0:07:01 > 0:07:05Now, these mean streets have felt a little bit safer in the last couple
0:07:05 > 0:07:10of days. That's because the officers from Scot squad have been patrol the
0:07:10 > 0:07:15beat and making sure all is in order. Of course, they bumped into a
0:07:15 > 0:07:19few familiar faces along the way.
0:07:27 > 0:07:32Children has a friend indeed in Scottish police force commove
0:07:32 > 0:07:39commissioner Cameron Mick Ellison. The shield who protects Scotland is
0:07:39 > 0:07:46visiting the nation's River City.If decent folk like you or I hear Matt
0:07:46 > 0:07:53Baker's cycling on a rickshaw to Glasgow in the hope to raise 4
0:07:53 > 0:07:59billion pounds for Children in Need, you think great. But mate baker is
0:07:59 > 0:08:04in a windowless vehicle around the corner, £4 million. He thinks
0:08:04 > 0:08:11Baker's got the money. Before you know where you are, there's a Bam
0:08:11 > 0:08:17shoving the rickshaw into the River Clyde and Matt Baker's tied up in
0:08:17 > 0:08:23award robe. I can't allow Matt Baker to go missing or aWal on my watch.
0:08:23 > 0:08:28Otherwise, I'll have Sturgeon all over me. I have a crack unit to
0:08:28 > 0:08:33police this event and keep the bams at bay. The great thing about an
0:08:33 > 0:08:39event like this, it really gives a lift to a disadvantaged community
0:08:39 > 0:08:44like Shield Edge.Who are you calling disadvantaged. Some cheek on
0:08:44 > 0:08:51you, big man. Doing your nose on us? I'm not.Did you come with that tall
0:08:51 > 0:08:56lassie off the news. That Jackie Bird?Is Jackie Bird here? I
0:08:56 > 0:09:02honestly didn't know.You lot don't know much about anything.Ma, move
0:09:02 > 0:09:10it, come on. What?Do I know you? Me, no, I don't think so. I've never
0:09:10 > 0:09:18been in trouble with the police. Aye, and I'm Kim Kardashian!Sorry
0:09:18 > 0:09:27about that!I'm sure I've met her.
0:09:27 > 0:09:30about that!I'm sure I've met her. We're definitely going to make it on
0:09:30 > 0:09:41the telly with this bad boy. Advertising for the garage.Defoe.
0:09:41 > 0:09:44Advertising for the garage.Defoe. HUMMING I can't believe I miss
0:09:44 > 0:09:50working with PC Hugh McArdle. We will have to ask you to move this
0:09:50 > 0:09:56vehicle.We're nearly done, pal. She's not your pal, pal.We need
0:09:56 > 0:10:02this area clear and be on the lookout for dodgy-looking characters
0:10:02 > 0:10:06before The One Show rickshaw gets here.Plus there will be cameras. We
0:10:06 > 0:10:12need to make sure nothing and no-one shows Scotland in a bad light. So
0:10:12 > 0:10:17beat it.Think you're looking in the wrong place for dodgy looking
0:10:17 > 0:10:23characters, officers.Will you please deal with him.Excuse me,
0:10:23 > 0:10:31gents. Bobby, we talked about this. The work I'm doing is overtime. That
0:10:31 > 0:10:35means I'm not on desk duty at the moment. That means, first of all,
0:10:35 > 0:10:39I'm concerned about how you managed to track me down and second of all,
0:10:39 > 0:10:45you really need to go home now. OK. I have something to say but I didn't
0:10:45 > 0:10:50want to interrupt you. Is this a good time?Aye, we're done here.
0:10:50 > 0:10:56Nice try, sunshine.You watch yourself, sunshine.This is a police
0:10:56 > 0:11:03matter.Sorry officer.We need to get some practice in here.Practice
0:11:03 > 0:11:11for what? The rickshaw challenges. We're going to cycle along the river
0:11:11 > 0:11:17with them.Good luck getting a turn of speed up on that one.Could you
0:11:17 > 0:11:23do any better.Officers could well beat you two in a race.Me and Bob
0:11:23 > 0:11:30will race you and officer Karen. Your name's Bob?Much as I'd like to
0:11:30 > 0:11:38take you up on that, I will not be racing against this chap. Totally
0:11:38 > 0:11:45race with him, but...No, not happening. We're on duty.
0:11:48 > 0:11:53I'm begging you, please do this?No. I haven't been outside the station
0:11:53 > 0:12:00in five years. The only exercise I get is the two stairs up and down to
0:12:00 > 0:12:06the custody suite and I eat most of the dinners on the way. I need this.
0:12:06 > 0:12:14Please, let's have some fun?No way. I don't deploy this card lightly.
0:12:14 > 0:12:20But I'm a Sergeant and I outrank you.My knowledge of the roads
0:12:20 > 0:12:27outrangs yours, Sergeant. What's the scrap then? Are you chicken? What
0:12:27 > 0:12:38did you say?I believe PC is saying the slightly shorter of the
0:12:38 > 0:12:41gentlemen there cast as pegses on your knowledge of the road. Are you
0:12:41 > 0:12:46going to take that? Well, lads, looks like you've got yourself a wee
0:12:46 > 0:12:51race then. We'll be back.
0:12:58 > 0:13:02So does your knowledge of roads figure out where we'll get a
0:13:02 > 0:13:05rickshaw at short notice? We're the Scottish police. We impound
0:13:05 > 0:13:17everything.Here, we've got the same name?Aye.And, what's your name?
0:13:17 > 0:13:27Angus.Angus. I don't like him. Cool!
0:13:34 > 0:13:40More to come from the River Squad team a little later on. A highlight
0:13:40 > 0:13:45of each appeal night is our Children in Need Choir. 1500 youngsters from
0:13:45 > 0:13:51all over the country took part in this year's musical masterpiece. In
0:13:51 > 0:13:53Scotland, children from across Ayrshire came together dedicating
0:13:53 > 0:13:57their weekends and spare time rehearsing. Our choirmaster was on
0:13:57 > 0:14:01hand to work his magic. It wasn't long before everyone was in fine
0:14:01 > 0:14:13voice. This year, Scottish Children in Need Choir is made up from pupils
0:14:13 > 0:14:18of 30 schools across Ayrshire. The musical director is on hand to make
0:14:18 > 0:14:21sure everyone's prepared for the big night. This is our first chance to
0:14:21 > 0:14:25bring young people from all over Ayrshire, from the different schools
0:14:25 > 0:14:29together, and have them singing as one choir.
0:14:29 > 0:14:35one choir. # Somewhere Over The Rainbow.Over
0:14:35 > 0:14:40The Rainbow's a fantastic song but has challenges. There is an ok tav
0:14:40 > 0:14:51jump. A big note. Make sure we get that MWhen we get it wrong, the
0:14:51 > 0:14:58choirmaster doesn't shout at us. We get to practise it and get it right.
0:14:58 > 0:15:02Get the birds fly I over.It is such a beautiful song. It represents
0:15:02 > 0:15:08courage and hope. If you want to go on big adventures.I've been
0:15:08 > 0:15:12practising the words quite a lot at home. I think my mum's starting to
0:15:12 > 0:15:17get fed up because me and my brother are singing it all the time. One of
0:15:17 > 0:15:20this year's schools is bringing an additional element to the
0:15:20 > 0:15:27performance.Our school decided to do signing language because one of
0:15:27 > 0:15:33the boys has a Sis ability. We're trying to teach him sing language.
0:15:33 > 0:15:37This is my son Harris. He has cerebral palsy. He's in the signing
0:15:37 > 0:15:43choir. He's now able to sign with his friends from the school and it's
0:15:43 > 0:15:48just brought him on leaps and bounds. He's just loving it.We're
0:15:48 > 0:15:51talking about how great it would be if everyone could learn how to sign
0:15:51 > 0:15:56it. That's what's happened this morning. Would you like to learn how
0:15:56 > 0:16:01to sign some of it? ALL: Yes.We'll do that as part of
0:16:01 > 0:16:05our performance ALL: Yes.Seeing hundreds of people
0:16:05 > 0:16:17signing, many for the first time, was quite an experience.
0:16:22 > 0:16:27Although they have been busy with rehearsals, the pupils have still
0:16:27 > 0:16:31found time for a spot of fundraising.Today we are singing to
0:16:31 > 0:16:35raise money for Children in Need!
0:16:39 > 0:16:46We had lots of fun and raised lots of money.Back at the rehearsal, the
0:16:46 > 0:16:50hard work is paying off.
0:17:02 > 0:17:05And now that the our wonderful Scottish children's choir singing

0:21:29 > 0:21:36Since 2011 The One Show's Rickshaw Challenge has raised a vast amount
0:21:36 > 0:21:38for Children in Need and every penny donated helps children and young
0:21:38 > 0:21:45people who need it most. This year's challenge kicked off on Thursday in
0:21:45 > 0:21:51London. The new team of six riders, all of whom have been supported by
0:21:51 > 0:21:55BBC Children in Need funded projects, at eight days to get to
0:21:55 > 0:21:59Glasgow, no matter what. The first couple of miles down. Seven miles
0:21:59 > 0:22:11in, our first problem and it's a big one. The rickshaw is down.
0:22:11 > 0:22:12one. The rickshaw is down. Goodbye, Oxfordshire, hello, Warwickshire. We
0:22:12 > 0:22:19have arrived in Morecambe. For two of the riders, the long and arduous
0:22:19 > 0:22:24cycle to Scotland is a return home. My name is Greg, I'm 18 from
0:22:24 > 0:22:31Dunfermline. I'm originally from Poland, when I was nine my dad died.
0:22:31 > 0:22:35After that my mum started neglecting me, she would not give me food and I
0:22:35 > 0:22:45was always hungry. My name is Shona. My condition is degenerative. I just
0:22:45 > 0:22:53wanted to be able to do something like this while I still can.We have
0:22:53 > 0:23:02made it to Scotland! Over you go! Team Rickshaw!CHEERING
0:23:02 > 0:23:10The
0:23:10 > 0:23:17The total is £5,063,230!We spoke to you last year, who would have but
0:23:17 > 0:23:22you would be doing something like this? Describe it to me.It was
0:23:22 > 0:23:26tough at times but also exciting because we bonded together as a team
0:23:26 > 0:23:32and got through all those miles. You said you wanted an adventure, did
0:23:32 > 0:23:39you get one?Yes, definitely. I wanted something that would
0:23:39 > 0:23:46challenge me. And that's what I got. You have been astonishing, you have
0:23:46 > 0:23:49kept everybody going and raised a phenomenal amount of money. What
0:23:49 > 0:23:53would you like to say to these amazing young people? They are all
0:23:53 > 0:23:58incredible in their own right. This challenge, it is nothing in
0:23:58 > 0:24:02comparison to what they have already been through in their lives. I have
0:24:02 > 0:24:05thoroughly enjoyed every moment riding alongside you guys and I will
0:24:05 > 0:24:14miss you all, I really well. Rickshaw Riders, we salute you!
0:24:14 > 0:24:18Still to come, we have part two of our special collaboration between
0:24:18 > 0:24:24the cast of River City and Scot Squad, River Squad. A special
0:24:24 > 0:24:29performance by Katie Melua of the official Children in Need single,
0:24:29 > 0:24:31Fields of Gold. Another chance to hear the wonderful Scottish
0:24:31 > 0:24:38children's choir, plus we continue to look at all the Children in Need
0:24:38 > 0:24:45funded projects that benefit from your donations. One of the most
0:24:45 > 0:24:49important ways your money can help is to allow young people with a
0:24:49 > 0:24:53variety of disabilities and complex needs simply to have some fun.
0:24:53 > 0:24:58Children in Need support projects like Kudla bright sparks in
0:24:58 > 0:25:03Bonnyrigg to do that, providing activities which provide laughter
0:25:03 > 0:25:12and relaxation.Well done, poppy. Harry is a happy, chatty
0:25:12 > 0:25:19seven-year-old but his journey has not been easy. He was a bright,
0:25:19 > 0:25:25bubbly baby but when he was two he seemed to change overnight. He
0:25:25 > 0:25:31seemed to have a few words to start off with mum and ball and cart but
0:25:31 > 0:25:35they suddenly disappeared.Harry stopped trying to talk or make eye
0:25:35 > 0:25:41contact.He has always had a light in his eye but that went. The
0:25:41 > 0:25:46doctors diagnosed severe autism. He didn't even seem to want to be in
0:25:46 > 0:25:52our world. It was like he was gone for a good while and I know that
0:25:52 > 0:25:59sounds stupid, sorry...Then it was discovered that as well as autism
0:25:59 > 0:26:05Harry had a rare chromosomal disorder.He has a genetic condition
0:26:05 > 0:26:10that affects his growth. He is a very big boy for his age and he
0:26:10 > 0:26:15grows up quite an alarming rate. He is seven years old at the moment he
0:26:15 > 0:26:20has size five adult feet, he is almost as tall as myself. Autism is
0:26:20 > 0:26:24hard enough but when you factor in his wake and growth issues, it makes
0:26:24 > 0:26:31it very difficult.One of the biggest challenges of Harry's
0:26:31 > 0:26:35condition is managing his insatiable appetite.Trying to stop him eating
0:26:35 > 0:26:41is a 24-hour a day task and it is not just about food. I can struggle
0:26:41 > 0:26:46to go for a shower if I'm in on my own, I can come up to find him
0:26:46 > 0:26:50sitting eating toilet rolls like their apples. He still in the strike
0:26:50 > 0:26:54from his brother but he ate the cardboard as well! It's not funny
0:26:54 > 0:27:02but sometimes you do have to laugh. The demands of Harry's autism and
0:27:02 > 0:27:07genetic disorder began to make family life very hard.Simple things
0:27:07 > 0:27:12like just nipping to the supermarket to get shopping. He can be upset,
0:27:12 > 0:27:19distressed, he can sit down and refused to get up. He can be
0:27:19 > 0:27:25emotional, he can bite himself when he is angry and upset. As his
0:27:25 > 0:27:32behaviour became more challenging, Gemma began losing her confidence.
0:27:32 > 0:27:35You do withdraw, and especially when they first get diagnosed, it takes
0:27:35 > 0:27:41you a while to get a thick skin to things. People stare and make
0:27:41 > 0:27:45comments and look. It was incredibly difficult to deal with and I would
0:27:45 > 0:27:50avoid going out or taking him places rather than having to face that. It
0:27:50 > 0:27:57is lonely. Especially at first. Everything changes, you don't know
0:27:57 > 0:28:00how but everything has changed and you don't know where the future is
0:28:00 > 0:28:04lying and you don't know what to do. I know people will say it is not the
0:28:04 > 0:28:08end of the world but when you see your older son joining these clubs
0:28:08 > 0:28:12and going to school and doing typical things, and you know that is
0:28:12 > 0:28:15never going to be for your younger son, it absolutely breaks your
0:28:15 > 0:28:18heart.
0:28:21 > 0:28:28Hello!Just as they were feeling at their lowest comedy family found
0:28:28 > 0:28:32Bright Sparks, a local support group for families with disabilities --
0:28:32 > 0:28:37feeling at their lowest, the family found Bright Sparks. They appeared
0:28:37 > 0:28:45at our door very unsure and anxious. From first walking in you just
0:28:45 > 0:28:50felt...You felt you were somewhere where your child could be the way
0:28:50 > 0:28:55they are, nobody looked at you any different. He loves coming here, the
0:28:55 > 0:29:02sensory room and the playroom. Thanks to your donations to Children
0:29:02 > 0:29:05in Need, Bright Sparks were able to provide harried with speech and
0:29:05 > 0:29:11music therapy which helped him find his voice again -- provide harried.
0:29:11 > 0:29:15When he arrived he was non-verbal. When he arrived he was non-verbal.
0:29:15 > 0:29:24-- Harry. You need to stand here. Now he is chatting away and very
0:29:24 > 0:29:27confident which we are proud of because we have been part of that.I
0:29:27 > 0:29:32really credit the physique therapy he got with helping him massively,
0:29:32 > 0:29:40to come back into our world.That's looking good.I like the cake.You
0:29:40 > 0:29:49made the cake? Wow! We have absolutely never looked back, for us
0:29:49 > 0:29:54finding Bright Sparks has been one of the best things to happen to us
0:29:54 > 0:29:56for Harry and myself.I give you a big hug.
0:30:15 > 0:30:19Now, let's return to River Squad and see how they're getting on with
0:30:19 > 0:30:28their very own Rickshaw Challenge.
0:30:28 > 0:30:32their very own Rickshaw Challenge. National man Cameron Mick Ellison is
0:30:32 > 0:30:40getting to know One Stop prior righter. Were you at the launch in
0:30:40 > 0:30:51Oban? Launch in Geneva? The highland games. I was the Chieftan? No. I ran
0:30:51 > 0:30:59an ice cream van. Maybe you tried my double nuggets? No. Wait, 1987
0:30:59 > 0:31:05Joshua Trees tour. I was a rookie doing crowd control. You were at
0:31:05 > 0:31:08front of stage. I caught you. You don't remember? There's no reason
0:31:08 > 0:31:15you should remember.Of course I to. Aye.Still haven't found what I'm
0:31:15 > 0:31:21looking for?Sorry? That was the song they were singing when you
0:31:21 > 0:31:27leapt from that stage and I caught you in these constable's arms. I
0:31:27 > 0:31:34never forget a face. Or a smile. Listen, I don't suppose...What's
0:31:34 > 0:31:39happening over there?Spotting a breach of the peace, the chief goes
0:31:39 > 0:31:44to lay down the law.Remember, the reputation of the Scottish police
0:31:44 > 0:31:51force is resting on your shoulders. Do not let me down.Remember, the
0:31:51 > 0:31:55reputation of Shieldinch is hanging in the balance. Don't let your mammy
0:31:55 > 0:32:05down, son.It's only donkey Kong. We're doing this.Aye, aye.
0:32:10 > 0:32:15The battle commences. CHEERING
0:32:15 > 0:32:23The raisin tense fist. Race intensifies.
0:32:29 > 0:32:39The results are almost in. Bear with us!I think the Shieldinch boys just
0:32:39 > 0:32:46edged it.Oh, well done, boys. Wait fill I tell Dougie.Dougie?I am sea
0:32:46 > 0:32:54a fella.Oh, right. You're spoken for?Aye, yeah, it's early days, but
0:32:54 > 0:32:59he's a keeper.Good. Good, good, good.
0:33:03 > 0:33:07So I think by allowing the little Glaswegian street people to win, I
0:33:07 > 0:33:14think we've given a boost to this disadvantaged community ergo the
0:33:14 > 0:33:17real winners today, the Scottish police force. Policing is all about
0:33:17 > 0:33:21hearts and minds. Today, we've won the Hearts and Minds of the
0:33:21 > 0:33:25Shieldinch community. I'm going to leave the good people of Shieldinch
0:33:25 > 0:33:32now and head upriver to Pacific Quay where apparently the leading weather
0:33:32 > 0:33:37persons Judith Ralston is attempting to eighth 37 boiled eggs in 30
0:33:37 > 0:33:43seconds. I will get up there and secure the perimeter. What's that?
0:33:43 > 0:33:49Quail's eggs? Not nearly as impressive. Anyone can eat that main
0:33:49 > 0:33:52quail's eggs.
0:33:55 > 0:34:01Thank you to the cast of river city and Scot Squad for giving their time
0:34:01 > 0:34:05and talent to Children in Need. The money you donate helps support young
0:34:05 > 0:34:12people when they need it most. There are an estimated 29,000 young
0:34:12 > 0:34:15careers in Scotland dedicating their lives to looking after loved ones.
0:34:15 > 0:34:21The donations you make to Children in Need goes towards counselling,
0:34:21 > 0:34:24respite and fun days out for self-lets young people like
0:34:24 > 0:34:28Georgina. Here's her story.
0:34:31 > 0:34:35Eight-year-old Georgina lives at home with her mum, Laura, and her
0:34:35 > 0:34:46little brother.I'm Georgina. This is Archie. He is cute. He's smiley,
0:34:46 > 0:34:52he's giggly. He's just the way he is.Archie was born with most of his
0:34:52 > 0:34:56brain missing which has left himself easterly physically disabled and
0:34:56 > 0:35:01blind.The doctors said he would only live up to five months. He's
0:35:01 > 0:35:09five years old now. Aren't you baby? He can't walk. He can't move but he
0:35:09 > 0:35:16can smile and he can go ah and stuff. And it's cute. Yeah.He needs
0:35:16 > 0:35:25to be cared for 24 hours a day.For the most part, it's pretty full-on.
0:35:25 > 0:35:28Archie could wake up coffee and being sick. You have to jump out of
0:35:28 > 0:35:34bed. No chance to brush your teeth or having a shower. A lot of
0:35:34 > 0:35:38lifting. Bringing him into the kitchen. Getting his meals set up.
0:35:38 > 0:35:42Trying to feed him. There's some nights where he'll sit in his chair
0:35:42 > 0:35:48and he's happy. There's others where he's constantly needing attention.
0:35:48 > 0:35:53The days can be really, really hard. But Georgie usually gives me a hand
0:35:53 > 0:35:58to help with all that.Georgina has developed a special bond with Archie
0:35:58 > 0:36:04and has found her own way to entertain him while her mum's busy.
0:36:04 > 0:36:06entertain him while her mum's busy. # You know that I'm still standing.
0:36:06 > 0:36:11# You know that I'm still standing. I think she misses out on a lot of
0:36:11 > 0:36:15one to to one. Even when you're having one to one you're still
0:36:15 > 0:36:18looking after Archie. It is a challenge. There are some times when
0:36:18 > 0:36:23you just kind of go, it's been a couple of weeks and I've not spent a
0:36:23 > 0:36:27proper evening with her. It breaks my heart. It's hard.Archie's
0:36:27 > 0:36:34condition is life-limiting. Over the last year, he's had some very
0:36:34 > 0:36:37serious medical setbacks. We nearly lost him twice last year. Archie
0:36:37 > 0:36:42went into a 20-hour seizure attack. We couldn't get him out of it. He
0:36:42 > 0:36:47was at the point of basically, the Meds were going to kill him or the
0:36:47 > 0:36:50seizure was going to kill him. That was the first time, I think, really,
0:36:50 > 0:36:56that it hit close to home how quickly he could go.For young
0:36:56 > 0:36:59careers like Georgina, it's not always the amount of practical
0:36:59 > 0:37:04support they give that takes its toll, often the hardest thing is how
0:37:04 > 0:37:10much they worry.I mostly feel worried at night-time or at school.
0:37:10 > 0:37:16I think when I come home from school Archie might have a problem, what's
0:37:16 > 0:37:25it called? Maybe like pass away.
0:37:31 > 0:37:38But when things feel tough, there is help on hand. Your donations to
0:37:38 > 0:37:42Children in Need help sterling young careers give Georgina and other
0:37:42 > 0:37:45young careers some all important time-out with friends.You now go
0:37:45 > 0:37:55up.Yeah.Then, you will also... Gina is a confident, fun young
0:37:55 > 0:38:00bubbly young girl. Coming on trips like this brings her out of her
0:38:00 > 0:38:04Shell and gives her the chance to be the little girl she wants to be.It
0:38:04 > 0:38:08really helps. I get to spend more time with people I know have the
0:38:08 > 0:38:13same problems. It makes me feel happy I'm not the only person. All
0:38:13 > 0:38:16the kids here understand what it is like to have that extra
0:38:16 > 0:38:19responsibility at home where somebody's ill and how important it
0:38:19 > 0:38:24is for them to come on trips like this and get that time away.Oh, my
0:38:24 > 0:38:31gosh.They get on so well. AYou've done awesome to get up there. Get
0:38:31 > 0:38:36ready to jump. We here toEr encourage them.
0:38:37 > 0:38:42It was a bit scary. It looks like it's not that high. But when you get
0:38:42 > 0:38:53up there, it is pretty high. This was awesome.Up next is Katie Melua
0:38:53 > 0:39:00performing the official Children in Need single Fields of Gold.
0:39:00 > 0:39:10# Ooh
0:39:12 > 0:39:19# You'll remember me when the west wind moves
0:39:19 > 0:39:24# Among the fields of barley

0:40:29 > 0:40:39# I never made promises lightly
0:40:44 > 0:40:47# And there have been some that I've broken
0:40:47 > 0:40:49# But I swear in the days still left
0:40:49 > 0:40:54# We'll walk in fields of gold
0:40:54 > 0:41:00# We'll walk in fields of gold
0:41:00 > 0:41:10# Ooh
0:41:11 > 0:41:19# Many years have passed since those summer days
0:41:19 > 0:41:25# Among the fields of barley
0:41:25 > 0:41:32# See the children run as the sun goes down
0:41:32 > 0:41:37# As you lie in fields of gold

0:42:22 > 0:42:29CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:42:29 > 0:42:34Just one text from you can change a child's life. Children in Need
0:42:34 > 0:42:38currently fund 62 projects across the UK which help children deal with
0:42:38 > 0:42:45bereavement and stress. When 12-year-old Doddy lost his father to
0:42:45 > 0:42:53a genetic condition, the trauma turned his life upside down. Thanks
0:42:53 > 0:43:00to projects like Stable Life it helped him. Doddy is 12. A
0:43:00 > 0:43:04year-and-a-half ago, he lost his dad, Mark.He enjoyed making stuff
0:43:04 > 0:43:12with me. Doing stuff in the garage. We made ponds in the garden. Put
0:43:12 > 0:43:16fences up and stuff. My train set was my grandpa's. Me and my dad had
0:43:16 > 0:43:26it. We turned it into what it is now.Nantes before he died, Mark
0:43:26 > 0:43:32started to feel unwell. He always had a stomach ache, feeling sick.
0:43:32 > 0:43:37They did various fests on him. We got a phone call from the
0:43:37 > 0:43:41consultant. The consultant said Mark was in end stage liver failure but
0:43:41 > 0:43:45they didn't know why.Because of the liver problem, he just went really
0:43:45 > 0:43:51yellow. We could still have fun with it though. We kept buying Simpson's
0:43:51 > 0:43:56merchandise for him.He was turning into homer Simpson.Yeah, always
0:43:56 > 0:44:00trying to get the fun out of everything. He took it all in good
0:44:00 > 0:44:06humour, he really did. It really came out of the blue. To be told he
0:44:06 > 0:44:12needed a liver transplant. He was unconscious for three days.I found
0:44:12 > 0:44:16it really difficult to visit him when he was like that. It was so
0:44:16 > 0:44:21upsetting.He was second on the transplant list. Unfortunately, we
0:44:21 > 0:44:28ran out of time and he Ziad on 23rd February. -- he died on 23rd
0:44:28 > 0:44:37February.To make a fresh start after Mark's death, sues and and
0:44:37 > 0:44:41Doddy moved from England to the Scottish Borders to be near family
0:44:41 > 0:44:46and a place with happy memories.Dad was always behind the camera. We've
0:44:46 > 0:44:51not too many photos of him. He was the one who took all the photos. But
0:44:51 > 0:44:56taking on a new school and new friends while still grieving for his
0:44:56 > 0:45:01dad proved too much for him.It was overwhelming. I became really sad
0:45:01 > 0:45:05and upset all the time. I just wanted to sit in my room all by
0:45:05 > 0:45:09myself.He became shy, quiet.I got anxious about doing everything.
0:45:09 > 0:45:16Sometimes aggressive.I was getting really ill from it.Doddy started
0:45:16 > 0:45:21having uncontrollable panic attacks. You were feeling sick. You were
0:45:21 > 0:45:27trembling and sweating. Just hyper ventilating. Getting chest pains,
0:45:27 > 0:45:31weren't you?I couldn't even go to bed. That's how bad it was.It could
0:45:31 > 0:45:36be 1.00 in the morning. We'd be sitting in the bathroom just
0:45:36 > 0:45:41counting one two ten and starting again, counting one to ten trying to
0:45:41 > 0:45:47get through it. He just disappeared. He went away somewhere that I didn't
0:45:47 > 0:45:51know where it was. It made me feel scared because I should be looking
0:45:51 > 0:45:55after him. But I couldn't take his pain away.
0:46:00 > 0:46:05Just when it felt like he could not go on, Doddy was introduced to
0:46:05 > 0:46:09Stable Life. Your donations help fund this horse Centre project which
0:46:09 > 0:46:15helps young people in distress. When he first came with us he was very
0:46:15 > 0:46:20anxious and almost closed down and he was a young person who seemed to
0:46:20 > 0:46:25want to hold everything together but had forgotten how to have fun and
0:46:25 > 0:46:30just be himself. You find a click with some ponies more than others
0:46:30 > 0:46:34and make a real connection.The first I Kinnara and started grooming
0:46:34 > 0:46:38the horse as I was riding a horse called Danny -- the first time I
0:46:38 > 0:46:45came here. I knew that this was the way I was going to do it, to calm
0:46:45 > 0:46:51myself down and get less stress. Loving his weekly riding lessons,
0:46:51 > 0:46:56Doddy really pushed himself to take on new challenges. As soon as they
0:46:56 > 0:47:01asked me if I wanted to canter, I was like yeah, I can do this and
0:47:01 > 0:47:06that was a turning point. Sometimes I couldn't leave the house, I was so
0:47:06 > 0:47:10anxious about doing new things but since I have cantered that hasn't
0:47:10 > 0:47:14really happened.I'm so proud of him, the way he has come on in the
0:47:14 > 0:47:21last year, he has changed immensely. He is now oozing with confidence in
0:47:21 > 0:47:26all areas and showing what potential he has, he is an absolute treasure.
0:47:26 > 0:47:32They gave me my son back, he is back to being the Doddy I know, confident
0:47:32 > 0:47:39and self assured and caring. He is Doddy, back to being Doddy again.
0:48:02 > 0:48:07Your donations to Children in Need help to support a myriad of
0:48:07 > 0:48:10charities across Scotland for so many children and continue to
0:48:10 > 0:48:13support them into adulthood. A number of young people have
0:48:13 > 0:48:17benefited so much from Children in Need projects that they wanted to
0:48:17 > 0:48:23give something back. Here are their inspiring stories. Every year we
0:48:23 > 0:48:27make films that show how children all round Scotland are being helped
0:48:27 > 0:48:34by Children in Need. But this film is different. This is about four
0:48:34 > 0:48:37young people whose lives were changed by Children in Need and now
0:48:37 > 0:48:48they are giving something back. This is Jordan. The Children in Need
0:48:48 > 0:48:52funded project Jack and Jill has been giving him a helping hand since
0:48:52 > 0:48:56he was ten, offering him all sorts of activities from a weekly youth
0:48:56 > 0:49:03club to day trips in the holidays. Our main focus is to reduce social
0:49:03 > 0:49:09isolation and increase the feeling of pride in young people. Now he is
0:49:09 > 0:49:1817 and he is paying back.Being helpful, and with my family.Jordan
0:49:18 > 0:49:24is giving his time helping to run the laughter Yoga class.Does
0:49:24 > 0:49:34anybody know what that is?It makes you laugh.Roller-coaster.
0:49:34 > 0:49:35you laugh.Roller-coaster.We researched about laughter yoga and
0:49:35 > 0:49:40it is about ringing a bit more happiness and joy which helps to
0:49:40 > 0:49:47reduce the chances of mental ill health.
0:49:47 > 0:49:52health. Having volunteers like Jordan means they can show other
0:49:52 > 0:49:56young people just how much skills you can develop as a young person.
0:49:56 > 0:49:59He volunteers at many of our fundraising might as well and he
0:49:59 > 0:50:03really is an all-round super volunteer and Jack and Jill would be
0:50:03 > 0:50:04lost without him.
0:50:08 > 0:50:16And in Glasgow there is Dylan. After he and his twin sister were born,
0:50:16 > 0:50:20Dylan suffered a series of fits that meant he would never walk. But it
0:50:20 > 0:50:27has not stopped him dancing.
0:50:27 > 0:50:28has not stopped him dancing. Independence is an inclusive dance
0:50:28 > 0:50:35company based in last go. It is to give dance opportunities to people
0:50:35 > 0:50:38who usually or in the past have been excluded from that kind of
0:50:38 > 0:50:43opportunity.If I had not joined Independence what I would not think
0:50:43 > 0:50:47to dance and they have completely changed my life and it is amazing to
0:50:47 > 0:50:56be part of the company. And now Dylan is giving something back.We
0:50:56 > 0:51:01quite often have fundraising weekends where we go and shake hands
0:51:01 > 0:51:05and ask people to donate and he always commits his time to this and
0:51:05 > 0:51:12raises a lot of money we can put back into the company. They give us
0:51:12 > 0:51:19the tins and by the end mine is full.A lot of time it is something
0:51:19 > 0:51:23missing in their lives come and dance gives them control and
0:51:23 > 0:51:27volunteering and giving back gives them that sense of control as well.
0:51:29 > 0:51:38And in Dundee there is Rhys who is 16 and has been coming to the ADHD
0:51:38 > 0:51:43support group for two years. The first day I went I remember going in
0:51:43 > 0:51:48and absolutely loving it and I didn't want to go home. Everybody
0:51:48 > 0:51:56welcomed me in and made me feel like I was the same as them.Rees suffers
0:51:56 > 0:51:59from hyperactivity, anxiety and difficulty concentrating.So many
0:51:59 > 0:52:04people don't understand it, it is an invisible illness and a chemical
0:52:04 > 0:52:10imbalance in the brain. Every kid is affected differently.Meeting others
0:52:10 > 0:52:16with the same condition has made all the difference. They share their
0:52:16 > 0:52:21experience with you and you can share your experience. It has made
0:52:21 > 0:52:25me happier, happier with myself because I used to think that I've
0:52:25 > 0:52:29got ADHD and I'm a weirdo. If I hadn't gone that I wouldn't be what
0:52:29 > 0:52:35I am today. It changes you, makes you your true self.Coming here has
0:52:35 > 0:52:42helped so much he has chosen to volunteer with younger kids.
0:52:42 > 0:52:44volunteer with younger kids.Once he started his volunteering, the
0:52:44 > 0:52:47confidence in him was just brilliant, amazing.I love
0:52:47 > 0:52:53volunteering because I get to go in and show the positives of having
0:52:53 > 0:53:00ADHD. You got a never-ending supply of energy! It is amazing to have it
0:53:00 > 0:53:02and you wouldn't be you without it.
0:53:06 > 0:53:15In Glasgow there is Eddie. He has been attending the Possibilities
0:53:15 > 0:53:20youth club since he was eight. We have social groups, arts and crafts
0:53:20 > 0:53:25and on top of that we provide volunteer opportunities. It was a
0:53:25 > 0:53:28refuge for Eddie who had been bullied at school because of his
0:53:28 > 0:53:38disability.It is water on the brain, it affects my head.
0:53:38 > 0:53:40brain, it affects my head. It would always affect my head and I would
0:53:40 > 0:53:45have to go to hospital and stuff. It is the youth club that helped him
0:53:45 > 0:53:51come out of himself again.I was quite shy. Sitting in the corner and
0:53:51 > 0:53:57I didn't know anybody. But I started to know everybody and everybody was
0:53:57 > 0:54:01friends. I progressed myself and got more confident and confident.Eddie
0:54:01 > 0:54:04is so grateful for the boost he has been given that he is now
0:54:04 > 0:54:09volunteering, organising bus runs into the youth club.I have been
0:54:09 > 0:54:19waiting half an hour!Know you haven't! Eddie has given loads back.
0:54:19 > 0:54:23He is that vibrant character that can get everybody going. As soon as
0:54:23 > 0:54:33they get on the bus.I come here every Tuesday. It makes me feel
0:54:33 > 0:54:37brilliant because I'm doing something, I'm not sitting in the
0:54:37 > 0:54:43house constantly, I'm out volunteering and stuff. I wake up in
0:54:43 > 0:54:51the morning and go yes, it's Tuesday! Brilliant! And this is just
